I'll sleep one the name idea, but I just wanted to say it sure is good to see you, hear from you and know that you are ok and that all is well on top of old Smoky. Hmmm Old Smoky?? nahhhh

Posted by: Kathy S. at April 24, 2007 3:11 PM

Phew! Thought we lost you to the Mountains with the 20 day silence.

My vote is to wait to name the cabin; it's so difficult to know the atmosphere there until we see more pictures and video of the process and the finished product.

Good to hear from you!

Okay I thought of a few,
#1- Peace Palace
#2- Rockytop Retreat
#3- Mountain chateau
#4- Rockytop Chalet
I think I like Peace Palace the best, if I think of more I'll be back

Posted by: Denise from Florida at April 24, 2007 6:55 PM

To name a cabin, officially that is. The Great Smokies aren't really in smoke ... so we might have a Blog in the Fog. Or Mountain Mist Estates. Perhaps Fog Hollow. Fogged Inn. Misty acres.
Whoops ... I'm outta Scotch. Ciao.

How about Peaceful Palace?

Posted by: Denise from Florida at April 24, 2007 7:08 PM

Hi Amy!

Love the Idea of a 'name' for this cabin and I am sure we all have some Good Ideas. We could call it 'OUR COLLECTIVE DREAM' since it is inspired by everyone voting on all the different items for the cabin and other wish list items. A cabin in the hills (mountains) is an image we all seem to dream about. We all 'Daydream' about having this cabin for our very own. I am waiting to read what other blooger's ideas are. Come on gang let's get the names flowing.....

Posted by: Lynn at April 24, 2007 7:10 PM

Hi Amy,

Now that's a great idea ! I can't wait to read everyone's suggestions for the name of the cabin, let's get those creative juices flowing !

My idea for a suitable name for the- cabin- in -the- woods is: " TimberTop"

The three Bears would like to pitch in some ideas too: " Merry Wood " and "Honey Wood" and from the Littlest-Bear-of-All: " Woodlands".

...and all was quiet and peaceful up on the mountain, the only sound that could be heard, was the gentle snoring of the bears...

'night 'night, sleep tight,

Naming the cabin is a GREAT idea! I can think of two right off the bat...

"Havenwood" because it will be a Haven from the city life.

"Hillbilly Hilton" because of course it's in the south. (This is one is in jeast and not meant to be offensive-I'm a native Tennessean)

Come on everyone and share your ideas about a name for the cabin.

Posted by: Kathy J at April 25, 2007 3:30 AM

Greetings Amy,

My dreams of a Smoky Mtn log home include the development of a hummingbird/butterfly garden feature. Out of respect for the original inhabitants of those beautiful mountains--the Cherokee people--I like "Welela Lodge."
In the Cherokee language "Welela" means hummingbird.

Posted by: Rebecca at April 25, 2007 8:18 AM

In the next few submissions, I'll be "batting around" ideas. I'll put more thought into the Estate name in the next day or two.

The first two blogs I submit are identical with the exception of the name provided.

COMICAL SURVIVALIST ESTATE....which is based on the Theme Parks of the Neverland Ranch and the fictional aspects of Blog Cabin.

Michael Jackson - The Neverland Ranch located in California. The Neverland Ranch is named after a Fictional Island of Peter Pan. Neverland possess theme parks that take their guests on MERRY-GO-ROUNDS, BUMPER CARS, and FERRIS WHEELS. Identical to Blog Cabin, the CAST OF 1000’s took similar fictional journeys on these rides. There were no “official rules” to ride the rides, yet people were enticed by the fascinating display of “pictures” that guided them inside. Once inside you submitted your ticket “number” to the “administrator” of the ride to fancy your imagination. With anticipation the audience awaits the spectacle to be revealed by the “administrator” .

Hilarious Drama Estate of Blog Cabin……..which is based on the following criteria:
Ewing - Southfork Ranch located in Texas was referred as a “movie ranch” and aired 13 seasons. Similar to Blog Cabin a DIY Cabin TV series consisting of a 13 part series will air starting August 16th.
My interpretation is the cast of 1000’s included:
The DIY Family (The Three Bears)
The Kinzel Springs Family
The Intellectual Creator of Blog Cabin
The Administrator and Moderators of The Blog
The Bloggers & Bloggerettes aka Admirable Contributors
The Sponsors, Affiliates & Resources
(My interpretation of family refers to the close net relationship of people working together.)

I like Rocky Top Retreat posted by Denise; however, on a more personal note "Fiddler's Haven" is what I chose. I could hear my husband with his fiddle on that mountain top playing his bluegrass tunes! It's a lifestyle! A place where we would go to relax, breath in fresh air, think about good times and rejoice!

Posted by: Jacqueline at April 25, 2007 3:38 PM

Such blogging creativity, don't you agree Amy?

Sounds like we all have our favorite names for the cabin (I'm still going with "Welela Lodge" if I win). On a light-hearted note...."Kinzel Kastle"..."Lucky Lair" (as in Bear's lair). I loved Daryle T's "Fogged Inn" and "Fog Hollow." I think it was a typo, though. Daryle, did you mean "Fog Holler"? :)

Lynn's "Collective Dream" was a great idea; and Victoria's "Smokeyview Estates" sounds like an exclusive log home community!!

So, Amy, will the bloggers be voting on a "working name" for the cabin (until the winner is selected and christens the cabin with the name of her/his choice)?? Rebecca in Cleveland

Posted by: Rebecca at April 25, 2007 4:09 PM

I like the idea of naming this cabin, but i wonder if whoever wins this cabin will rename it for themselves. but i will suggest a few names a little later on. It's good to here from u finally. Began to wonder if u got lost in the smoke, lol. :).

PS; i like the name of welela lodge. beautiful name. good job rebecca.

THE ALEXIS ESTATE, after our daughter

Posted by: victoria at April 26, 2007 8:20 PM

Amy,

Incorporating your name or ideas of the build would also be a great choice.

OR

Consider the environmentally friendly aspects, which I imagine played a roll in the build. Kinzel Springs and the area both hold these elements.

Posted by: Delivery Boy at April 26, 2007 8:34 PM

great idea to name the blog cabin.
1. mountainaire (a play on the fresh mountain air)

2. eagle's wing ( then could get one of the chainsaw wings to place over the outside door mantle.

3. bear haven (likewise could get one of the outside support columns to have a bear head peaking out).

4. blog hollow ( to commerate all of our imput)

5.bended knee (a place to stop and give thanks and enjoy family and friends)

i will enjoy reading the names that everyone comes up with.

Posted by: jm at April 26, 2007 10:14 PM

Ok, here are a few names for thought.

Gaia's Garden
Honeybear Haven
Trillium's Treasure
The Triple R Ranch( Relaxing, Rockytop, Retreat)(taking some from denise)
or how about
Bloggers Bluff :)

just a few for fun. let me know whatcha think, fellow bloggers. this is good fun.

Nice vlog. Too bad we weren't able to get the drive in basement with diy workshop, but no need to look this horse in the mouth.
As to chiggers, my grandma always said they came from those ubiquitous wildflowers with the white lacy tops. Avoid those whenever possible and wear boots, long socks, tie off jeans legs. If you get these little burrowers, anyway, any color nailpolish will do to suffocate them. You'll heal very quickly and forget all about the humiliation of looking funny.
A name? "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet....." (Thanks, Will)

Posted by: Connie G. at April 27, 2007 10:09 AM

Welela Lodge! Love that name, Rebecca. I wanted to come up with a name myself; however, nothing sounds as wonderful to me as Welela Lodge.

The name reminds me of the Naniboujou Lodge in northern Minnesota. It was built in the 1920's as an ultra-exclusive club with members such as Jack Dempsey and Babe Ruth. The walls in the dining hall are decorated in Cree Indian designs. It is truly a treasure. I could see our blog cabin decorated in Cherokee motifs.

How do you pronounce Welela? Are there any other Cherokee words that would work for our area? Perhaps the Cherokee name for the Smokies?

Thank you, Rebecca! It would be so perfect to tie the cabin to the Native Americans of the cabin's location. I hope the rest of the bloggers and the DIY team love this suggestion as well.

Posted by: Jan at April 27, 2007 10:45 AM

Again, I love Rebecca's suggestion of Welela Lodge. I had mentioned in my previous blog that the name the Cherokee had given the smokey mountains might work as well. Using Rebecca's theme, how about Shaconage Lodge?

Did some research and found this at the Cherokee North Carolina in the Great Smoky Mountains website: "...Cherokee ruled lands that now represent parts of eight states. They named the Smoky Mountain area "Shaconage," or "place of blue smoke...".

Estate Name....

Champaign Wishes

The song "Glamorous" by the Artist "Fergie" has been one of my more recent favorite songs. The lyrics referencing "Champaign" stir up feeling of sitting in a hot tub with the hubby sipping champaign feeling "Glamorous"! :)

How about the name "Grin'Inn Bear It"

Posted by: Katie R. at April 27, 2007 1:11 PM

Thought of another name:

Merrilee Lodge

Posted by: Katie at April 27, 2007 1:18 PM

Hi Amy,

Construction can be a demanding mistress. Glad you found a minute to touch base with us.

Giving the cabin a name sounds like a good idea. The winner may change it, but during the building it would be nice to refer to it by name rather than a generic 'cabin'. How about DreamInn (one word)? It is definitely a dream of all of us to become the owners of this home in the hills.

Can't wait to see this dream develop!

How about "Gone With the Win Inn"

Posted by: Katie in Fla. at April 27, 2007 1:49 PM

Jim's idea of Blog Hollow and Cindy's idea of Bloggers Bluff were really good.

Here's a few more ideas:

Townsend's Treasure

Enchanted Inn (or Hideaway)

Rustic Retreat

Knotty Pines

Hi to all the wonderful DIY people who are a part of the building of this beautiful blog cabin, especially Amy, with her great attitude, creative inspiration, and scintillating wit.
I have read several nice names from the bloggers for the cabin, and I'm sure there will be many more, so I will enter one as well.
If everyone has enjoyed having a part in this process as much as I have, then I'm sure each of you can imagine the happy echoes of all our voices singing on the mountain breeze as the eventual winner relaxes on the front porch in the evenings. We are and were, after all, a part of it all.
Hence, the name I would choose for the cabin--the Happy Echoes Mountain Retreat.
Win or lose, I think that all of us are enjoying the process and the progress of the blog cabin. Thanks for listening.

There are so many great names!!! I listed only a few that stood out but there are others too! WOW...such creativity! :)

Bloggers Bluff :)

Fog Hollow

Peace Palace

"Grin'Inn Bear It"

"Gone With the Win Inn"

Welela Lodge! Love that name, Rebecca.

bear haven (likewise could get one of the outside support columns to have a bear head peaking out).

Can't believe we haven't seen this one yet..... SMOKEYLAND

As to chiggers (I actually researched this in your earlier blog.) thx :)

I'd love to list more!

Posted by: Victoria at April 27, 2007 6:23 PM

Thanks for compliments on "Welela Lodge" Jan!
I researched the Cherokee/English translation and also saw it written as "Weleli." Guess I'll have to ask a Native speaker about the differences.

I have an interest in and respect for Native American culture, but especially Cherokee. My grandparents had a farm in the Smoky Mtns (Bryson City,NC) and the Cherokee culture was interspersed in family stories. As a young girl I would explore the hills above their farm and discover arrowheads...I would imagine the Cherokee girls and boys who had walked those same hills before me.... even then I felt a spiritual connection to those mountains. My grandfather leased land on the Cherokee reservation to run a little tourist train called "Old Smoky" in the 1950's.

But I digress...We're here to brainstorm names for the cabin. I was thinking maybe we could use the "D I Y" acronym and come up with something:
1. "Drop Inn Y'all"
2. "Dare Inspire Yourself"
3. "Do It (out) Yonder" (with an outhouse in the back!)

Posted by: Rebecca at April 27, 2007 9:27 PM

Oops... my last comment was sent unfinished by accident. (Guess I'd better enroll in Blogging 101).

Anyway, some wonderful ideas are being generated. Jacqueline's "Fiddler's Haven" conjured such a great picture of a group of friends sitting on the cabin's porch (or outside at the fireplace/patio) enjoying bluegrass music!

Maybe DIY should build a cabin/resort/lodge that bloggers can rent....

I've had such fun being involved in helping to make all these choices as I'm sure everyone else has. How about Blogger's View or Blogger's Retreat? This way we all live on...

Posted by: Cheryl at April 28, 2007 7:03 AM

Hi to all the DIY people who are involved in any way with the building of the blog cabin, and especially to Amy, with her great attitude, creative inspiration, and scintillating wit.
This is the third time I've written this note and tried to post, then I realized I wasn't entering the numbers in the box below the comment box...DUH! Hope it works this time.
I've been reading the names every one has suggested for the cabin and there have been some good ones. There will probably be many more as well, so I decided to suggest one also.
If all of you have enjoyed this as much as I have, then I'm sure you won't have any trouble picturing the eventual winner of the cabin sitting on the porch in the evening listening to the soft breezes echoing down the mountain in all our happy voices as we dream of winning what they were lucky enough to win.
Hence, my suggestion for the cabin name is the 'Happy Echoes Mountain Retreat'
Win or lose, I think that we've all enjoyed every aspect of this process, thus far, and will continue to enjoy until the last vote is counted, so to speak.
May all our echoes be happy ones. Thanks for listening.

Hi Amy

Nice to see the cabin underway. I didn't see any mention of the foundation for the cabin. is it a slab, footings and walls, crawl space or full, piers and pilings? just curious. I like to know the details. As for a name for the cabin Amy's EnDevers?, collaberation retreat.
Seeing as you are and artist will we be seeing a personal memento in the cabin from your talents?
A painting, mural or piece of furniture? Ah a piece of furniture with a painting incorperated into the piece? No pressure just like your work.
Best wishes for a smooth build and a back rub after lifing all those timbers. Stu

LOVE the suggestion of Bended Knee (as anyone that wins this should do just that each time before entering and thank God for such a gift!!)
Or, how about Blessings Inn or Dreams Retreat.

I thought it would be a nice touch if you guys went to one of those pottery making places, painted and signed a vase then but some of the dirt from the build in it for the mantle.
Thanks

i love the idea of a name with the cherokee heritage, afterall...i am cherokee. i can't tell you how amazing it would be for me to be walking in the same hills my ancestors once walked in. enough of the trivia... jan and rebecca are on the right track. i like the name "welela lodge" and "Shaconage" too...but got to say that "blog hollow" made me laugh and smile..."bended knee" is a great name and i would certainly be on bended knees giving thanks for this wonderful cabin... i will give some serious thought to some other names but have to put my husbands first pick into the hat: "mike & brenda's home for there kids and grandkids to live, love and laugh"!!

Good Morning Bloggers and Bloggerettes!

Happy First Day of May !

The sun is shining, flowers blooming and all the critters will be waking up on the mountain slopes !

Hopefully mud season is over for the Blog Cabin construction team, please don't forget that blob of sunscreen for the back of your necks and your noses :o) and protect those ol' baby blues ~ wear your sunglasses !

Looking forward to seeing more photos and videos of the work in progress. What a creative bunch you are !
Since the site has a little creek running on the property, how about considering " Kinzel Creek Lodge" as a name for the cabin?

The Bears are waking up after their long Winter hibernation, and are bright- eyed and bushy tailed, all ready to head on up the mountain... so it's time to fatten them up with some good, hot, tasty porridge!

Love,

Greetings Bloggers! It's been beautiful weather here! Has everyone seen the short slideshow on the Log Homes of the Smokies website? Maybe after seeing this it would also inspire a creative name for the cabin!

Thank you Rebecca for your sweet comment! We have great minds on this website! We visit Cherokee Reservations at least twice a year! The Pancake House has the best grits! And love drinking the Cherokee bottled water! I am also learning to play the spiritual flute!

Thank you Amy and Log Home of the Smokies Construction Crew for working so hard on the cabin! Can't wait to see more on the cabin along with everyone else!

I added a few but I like Rebeccas idea with DIY....
"DIY Drop Inn Y'all"
and "Bloggers bluff" by Cindy.
It would be nice to include DIY somehow in the name and have a plaque made for over the front door.

Posted by: Denise from Florida at May 1, 2007 11:34 AM

Naming something that isn't finished yet can be tought because you get the inspiration for a name from the way that the something looks, but how about "DYI Hideaway" or "DYI's Heavenly Hideaway" or if that's too commercial for you, just plain "Heavenly Hideaway" ?

How about

"The Sweet Life"

Everyone has awesome ideas here. I think it will be easier to start defining a name once it's personality starts showing through....or we see some of the "hi-jinks" that go on. grin

I love the Smokies. My sons and I rent a cabin overlooking Gatlinburg each year. Some of my most joyful memories are of those trips. Most cabins down there have the same names. But I was thinking of "Smokie Mountain Dreamscape". Because when your in the Smokies it's like a dream and your escaping from reality.

Tuck Inn -- Townsend used to be named Tuckaleechee Cove, so the Tuck would be for that and tie the cabin's name into the history of the area. Tuckaleechee Inn might sound too long and the Tuck Inn just sounds so cozy!

If I were the winner of the cabin I would call it Serenity because the area looks so calm and peaceful just like you would think heaven would be like. I would post a sign at the end of the driveway that would say Welcome to Serenity.

better late than never...i was waiting to put in on the name till i had time to really think about it. i had a dream...well, i really did...lol...but it was my great great grandfather (i'm guessing) a very old cherokee man and he held out his hand to me...not out like reaching but holding it up. i placed my hand against his and heard him singing a song, in cherokee..i didn't understand the words but some part of me realized i recognized the song...anyway, the name..the Name...i can hear you saying...
Tsu no ye ni which means hands in cherokee. and aside from my dream, there have been many hands in the making of this cabin! so, in honor of my people and the great cherokee mountains where this cabin is being built...and in honor of all the people who have had a hand in everything from blogging the design to placing the stones...

How about Green Forest Estate or Smokey Peak.

Tn state bird is: Mockingbird, so what about; MOCKINGBIRD LANE.
TN state insect is: Ladybug, so what about;
LADYBUG HAVEN
TN state animal is: the Raccoon, so what about;
RACCOON HIDEAWAY.
I'll keep thinking. Good weekend to everyone!

This dream house is high in the mountains, amid a forest, and meant to melt your troubles away... How about we call it one of these names:

1) Crown Ridge
2) Serenity
3) Crest Mount
4) Crest Wood
5) Harmony Haven

Any of these capture a piece of what makes this home special :)

As a native son (grew up nextdoor in Sevier County) who's been away for almost 30 years, but plans to retire back there soon -- there's only one name that'd be appropriate if it were mine:

Owenvsv -- that's Cherokee for "home"

It's pronounced O-way-neh-seh

So, all I have to do now is win it!

How about Idlewylde. I know I have read or heard that somewhere before. It sounds beautiful.

How about:

"WELELA NEST"

(Since Welela is a hummingbird and is carved on the cabin.)
