The Case of the Missing Window

Well, the mystery is solved. I would’ve gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids!

Just kidding of course. It seems the collective heads of all you bloggers are certainly better than the 9 or so we have on the build site. We owe you all a giant Thank You for bringing our attention to a forgotten window opening (oops!) I’m sure one of us would’ve caught it eventually, (especially when it came time to install the actual window) but we are extremely grateful that you have our back.

You’ll be glad to know that the opening for the window was cut out of the logs successfully and we are all good to go. Crisis averted. Nice work, Bloggers!

Now, if I go ahead and say in all sincerity, “You’re right, we need you. We couldn’t do this without you.” Will you spare us the pride-crushing “I told you so’s?”

More pictures soon. I promise.

Thanks for staying sharp!
Amy

Yay, Amy! Thanks for getting that window in place. Now how about making that great area under the house into a walkout basement? Huh? Pretty please? A detached garage in the same style as the house would be just right, too, I think.

Thanks for listening - and for all your hard work.

Hi Amy !

Aha ! The case Of The Missing Window !

...Sounds like a Sherlock Holmes Who Dunnit ?detective Novel :o)

I'll wager it was Derek who hid the window opening, he's such a prankster ! Happy to hear you noticed it was missing and re-cut the opening :o)

OR ~ perhaps it was.... Colonel Mustard, in the library with the lead pipe. )

Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.

Next instalment: The case of the missing link.

Hello again from sunny North Carolina....

Yeah! I'm back home and back to the computer on a regular basis. Glad to hear that you found the windows and cut the opening. How long ago did we bring that up? Must have been fun trying to figure out what happened there. Now we know we do have some say around there. Still anxious to see pictures. Vlogs are good too, but we are anxious to see progress on the cabin.

spent some time looking at the old pics again and remembered that I saw the roof of near by building through the trees in the ground breaking pictures. Is the our closest neighbor and how far away is the structure or is it just a barn or something?

Seems to me that generators is getting to be a good idea for that cabin. Had lots of rain and thunder boomers lately from our first tropical storm. Hurricane season is upon us and you just never know these days what will happen. I love having backup plans. What would we all do without electricity. Oh! I do know what to do, but the average person these days don't know what to do. Glad I know how to camp in the woods.

Hope there is nothing else missing from the cabin that we haven't seen because we haven't seen new pics. HINT,HINT. Sorry Amy, I know you are busy. So where is that personal assistant you don't have. You need to bug your bosses for background help. You are such a celeb to us all, don't those guys at DYI know you need a pictorial history besides all that taping they are doing. Hope they keep that in mind with our next blog cabin.

Well Goodnight and happy dreams. Still anxious to see the progress, like everyone else......

Better late than never! At least you were able to still add the window...and it will look so much nicer matching the original design. Good job. Let's hope that's the worst thing that goes wrong!

K Amy - maybe you better clip out the "good hands" Vlog???? Now we all got the real picture! (smile!) Don't be too embarrased - we all make goofs once or twice in our lifetime (grin). Anyway it's good news that you could overcome the issue quickly and perfectly (I say that in faith... I do still have faith in the abilities of the building team.)
Seriously, custom projects seldom go without some kind of oversight or complication - it's just their nature.

A Breathtaking "WOW"!

Thank you for posting more pictures on "Log Homes of the Smokies". I'm glad you selected great contractors to build such a divine home.

Derek, the stone you cut for the fireplace has taken on magnificent shape!!! Dean & Derek you both make a great team!

The homes exterior with hand hewn and bark siding looks remarkable! I also love the idea of a window seat with bark siding. I also noticed someone is an artist with their ability to create such a lovely humming bird.

I see that the voting selections are skillfully coming together. The round railing is seamless and the tin roof is ready for installation. How perfect! :)

Words can't describe how perfect the walk-out patio looks! It would be a dream to sit out there in the early morning or late evening and take in the surroundings with family.

FYI....
I formerly was unable to access a link on "Log Homes of the Smokies". Perhaps, it was because I had dial-up? Thanks to Kathy on the DIY message board for referencing the pictures located on the link "Log Homes of the Smokies". I'm now able to view the pictures. I encountered a few problems as I attempted to download a Windows Media Player. My husband has high speed at work and also encountered problems. I didn't realize I was missing out on the build....sorry.

Thanks Again Kathy!

Hello Amy and Blog Cabin Gang! Hope today is a much cooler day for ya'll!! It is here in my neck of the woods!

This is especially for THE Ambidextrous and Attractive Amy...Promising too! FIVE DAYS and counting!!

Also, thank you for replacing and solving the mystery of the missing window and chimney!! Everything looks AWESOME!!! I am not sure about the door yet. I guess we Bloggers will have to figure that out in the next pictures! Unless the door opening has already been figured! Which I'm sure it has...but was it made any wider than it shows in the previous slideshow? Will there be any peek windows around the door?

Amy, hope to hear from you very soon!

Posted by: Jacqueline at June 11, 2007 5:37 PM

Hi Amy! SEVEN DAYS and counting...hope to hear from you or somebody there soon on the progress of this unique and beautiful hand hewn cabin!! Thank you in advance!

Posted by: Jacqueline at June 13, 2007 10:36 PM

It sound like every one is enjoy the window I am glad it was found. Can't wait to see the cabin completed good luck crew.

Posted by: janetbennett at June 15, 2007 12:38 AM

I’d check inside the fireplace for the beer. Maybe Derek or Dean hid it? :)

Posted by: Anonymous at June 15, 2007 7:49 AM

I’m glad to see that the window and chimney problems were solved. Perhaps, the door opening will be made to accommodate the wormy chestnut door which has a window on each side. If the wormy chestnut door isn’t installed, perhaps there will be one installed that is similar? It would be nice to see the entrance door in the next vlog or slideshow.

I hope the weather is cool and any storms that may have been present have passed. The weather here is great!!!

Our family will be taking a mini four day vacation starting June 30th. It's been almost three years since we've went away. I'm looking forward to it. :)

Happy Father's Day !! Blog Cabin Crew !!!

We all hope you have taken a long weekend, well-deserved break from Blogging and Building !

Time well-spent, pampering all those Dads on site, firing up the grill and icing those refreshing Dad beverages !

We Bloggers are anxiously waiting with bated breath, for the first VLog of you all testing the waters in the hot tub :o)

Perhaps we could award a prize for most outrageously decorated hot tub hat ? ( Visions of antlers, pine boughs, hammers ? )

Love from Goldilocks and the porridge - Breath Bears :o)

Blogging Anonymous, You asked what was taking place in five days. Well let me explain. It had been five days from the date of Amy's Blog and she had promised more pictures...so I have been counting. On that date, June 11th, it had been five days! And well NOW, it's eleven days and counting.

By the way, I know somewhat of where Amy's been. Yep! Amy and Karl, ya know, Karl Champley, have been to the Grand Ole Opry!!! They had some remodeling work to do for some of the country singing CELEBRITIES like Trace Adkins, Little Jimmy Dickens, Jennifer Hanson, Keith Anderson, and Jamie O'Neal!! Exciting isn't it!! Well don't fret!! I blogged to Karl Champley to let Amy know she is WANTED on BLOG CABIN!!

Again, Amy, ELEVEN DAYS and counting!! We all would love to see those promised pictures of the Blog Cabin!! Thank you in advance!!

Happy Father's Day to all!!

Posted by: Jacqueline at June 17, 2007 11:32 PM

I feel drawn to some of the comments posted by Hilary and her ideas on having the next vlog from the hot tub. Hopefully a hot tub exists. ;)

It sure would make for a good show on our end if decorated hot tub hats were made. (clue hats, beer hats, cabin name hats) Please try to avoid making any hats out of soap stone! :) Perhaps, we could vote on the hat selections as we did for the items to be incorporated into the home?

You all must be pretty busy!! Can't wait to see the cabin.

Posted by: Alecia at June 18, 2007 4:00 PM

The new pictures are great. Thank You for posting them. The cabin is absolutely beautiful! Your excellent worksmanship or workwomanship shows how much you love building.
The person who wins this will have won a piece of heaven! Whoever does not win, will crave to have a cabin built in the mountains.
Think you guys are up to building some more?? You can take a couple of weekends off inbetween cabins. lol
The view from the balcony gives you the feeling of sitting up in the trees. This lot is perfect for the cabin.
Again Thank You for these new pictures, but remember we would love to get more pictures much more often. You guys must have a whacked out camera, it only seems to take six pictures at a time! lol You could take care of the problem of not posting often enough...just take 24-36 pictures at one time and post them every other week. Sounds like a great idea to me. lol
Life is sweet, until next time...

Good Morning Amy, Ron and The Cast Of Thousands !!

Thank you so much for the new photo slideshow ~ We can almost smell the lovely scent of pine as we virtually "step inside" the blog cabin :O)

You guys have done a fabulous job of building !!!

Wow...Thanks for the new pictures! Is that a walk-out basement I see? The roof looks beautiful, as does the railing. The kitchen is even coming along great.
You are all fabulous, I wish you knew how exciting it is to see the progress. Who knows at this point it could be our cabin! That makes it even more exciting. I know I don't have to say keep up the good work, so I say, stay well...

Posted by: Anonymous at June 22, 2007 3:04 PM

Jacqueline,

Thank you for the update. It's good to hear that she is enjoying time at the Grand Ole Opry in the company of some great country singers. Hats off to the great MUZIKMAFIA!

I'm glad you were able to contact Karl Champley and let her know she is missed on Blog Cabin!

Good Day Mate!

Hello Fellow Countrymen (and Countrywomen) at the Blog Cabin,
I have dreamt of the "perfect classic American log cabin" for 20 years. Congtatulations for building and designing this great prject - which combines simplicity with function and captivates the beauty of American history with some of today's best homebuilding technology.
Not "overdone" into some sort of "log castle" as I initially feared, if I don't win it I'm seriously thinking about having one built for me and my 5 dogs.
I hope the design, costs, contractors and workers are made available for a Countryman like me to enjoy a cabin home like this.
I don't know what better compliment i can make to you all.
Randy Countryman :)

Amy
May the warm winds of heaven blow softly on this cabin, and may the Great Spirit bless all who enter there. Indian Blessing.

This Blog Cabin may have started out as a DIY project but it has taken on a new meaning (life). We have prayed for 25 years to have a home in the Great Smokey mountains and I believe this is God's way of answering our prayers and finding a way for our dream to come true. It is in his hands now and we will enter every day.
This Blog Cabin has a spirit about it and I believe that you can feel it too. It's not just a log cabin!!! There is a higher power at work here. This cabin has a spiritual energy about it and I can feel it. It was no accident that I am drawn to this one cabin and it is no accident that you were there to over-see it's birth. I believe with all my heart and soul that this cabin was built for me and my family. This home will always belong to all who helped make it so..we will fill it with Tender Loving Care...but will share it always with DIY and it's many viewers over the next few years as the Cabin becomes a home with real people and real love for it. Should God answer our prayers I hope that you will become a part of our family and will visit with us often. Thank you for your time and for your spirit. I hope that we get to meet soon.

Take Care And God Bless You Always.

It looks odd...
