Hi Jason, Amy, Ron and Blog Cabin Team !

We are very impressed by how quickly the work is progressing ! What a hard working team !

What a great idea to incorporate a rustic storage chest to be built between the rocking chairs on the porch ! And constructed from reclaimed barn timbers to boot ! Not only handsome, but functional :o)

The screened-in porch will be a useful addition to Blog Cabin life ~ stretching out those long summer evenings , while keeping out the wildlife !!!

Happy Hammering Jason!
Happy Blogging Amy !

Hi Jason! Excited to see the final project completed!! Sorry about the itch your experiencing, but love your red ears!! I also failed to mention love the bark benches on the interior and the bark on the exterior of the cabin accenting the roof and the window box with the fresn herbs!

We've been to the Great Smoky Mountains and are planning a trip there in another week!!! We're going to hit some of our favorite hotspots and more!!

We've lived among the atlantic ocean all our lives and there is nothing that compares to the Great Smoky Mountains!!!

Chris and Simon are TOPS when it comes to bulding a hand hewn cabin!!!...along with the DIY STAFF!!!

Thanks so much for the vlog!!

I have a Windows 98 and I hope someone can help me. I can click on the media box and get the audio of the work being done, but I can't get the video to show what the blog cabin looks like. Can't wait to see the progress. Thanks for your assistance.

Welcome Jason! Yes, you are in the South remember. Get a couple of bandanna's to tie over your forehead helps to keep the sweat out of your eyes. Believe me, it helps. That old sweat can burn your eyes. Light colors don't get as hot, like the dark colors.

My son ties it over his entire head so his scalp doesn't get sunburned too. I like to make a roll and tie it around my head over the eyes and wear a hat to shade my face. That is, after I apply sunscreen. It can be okay in small doses but, if you are in the sun for a 10-15 minutes, you can BURN. Can't wait to see that chest. Nothing like a tall iced tea while sitting on the front porch rocker.

Are you also going to work on the landscaping? I am sure there will be a need for something to spruce up the yard and patio and fireplace area.

As always, I can't wait to see the next installments of Vlogs/comments and pictures. Keep up the good work!

Greetings DIY Cabin Team,

I'm catching up on the progress of the cabin after being away for awhile. Impressive! The video blogs give us a sense of "being there."

Along that note, I just came back from Atlanta, Michigan (Canada Creek Ranch) and toured a log home in progress (Michigan Log Homes Co.). How exciting to walk through the rooms, inhaling the cedar scent, and standing on the deck enjoying a lake and pine tree view. And, getting that feeling "I've got to do this someday."

I thought about the DIY Cabin and wondered if next year it might be feasible--depending on location accessibility--to have a "viewing area" set up near the build site?!... Maybe have it cordoned off so there is a reasonable distance between the DIY cabin and the "tourists," but have a trailer set up with displays from the vendors--and maybe a lemonade stand or something?...

I realize there would be many issues to consider; safety being primary, but I imagine some of us would travel to observe the process...and it could mean lots of advertising and promotion for the sponsors...!

As much as I love watching the video blogs, there is nothing like being at the site--the smells, sounds, action.... Well, just a thought!!

Keep up the great work, like all the bloggers, I'm dreaming about winning! Best wishes, Rebecca

Thanks for the update jason, it is much appreciated. While we do have very hot and humid summers in the south, the views as, you have seen, are well worth it. I'm sure that your blanket chest and the screened in porch will be beautiful. Can't wait to see the new show. I hope that you and the rest of the gang will have a wonderful 4th.

ps: I agree with Ms. Seals above, please have the camera pan around the cabin both inside and out. :P

Hi there Jason,Amy, and Ron. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou. This is so awsome to be able to watch how the cabin is being built at every step. It is almost as if you are right there. Thank you once again for the pics. You guys are doing a fantastic job. I hope to be able to see that cabin in real life one day. Hope you had a wonderful fourth of July. abumgarner

Hi Jason~
Last night was the "live earth" concert, and it made me think of the blanket chest you are working on. There is nothing more beautiful than something made from reclaimed wood. It gives life and character to the piece.
Hope you are staying cool and drinking plenty of liquids!

Posted by: Karen at July 8, 2007 7:21 AM

Is there a way to get from the inside of the cabin to the backyard, without going out the front door and walking around? Perhaps we just haven't seen pictures of something yet. I am wondering if you guys will have stairs coming off of the balcony. Since it is so high, perhaps the stairs will come down a little and then have a small deck, then have the stairs continue off of that, go down a little more to another deck, and so on. That way the stairs won't be so steep.
Hopefully you won't have to walk all the way around the house with things for the cookout, to get to the cool outdoor patio with stone fireplace, where the grill is. Just wondering.

Thank you Jason, Amy, Ron and the entire team that is out there working in this heat to make one of us such a beautiful....wonderful log cabin!! Screened in porch....chest to keep blankets in for the evenings, or my favorite, early mornings...great idea! Like the rest of you, I am thinking of the possibilities...walking into that cabin of my own someday...Smokey mountain dreaming!

I'm looking forward to seeing the bench made from reclaimed wood. I'm glad we are continuing to keep the environment in mind throughout the build. :)

Jason & Amy
Loved the newest vlog. It is looking and sounding like the "real deal". I love all the little details you're adding, rustic little bench and all!
Ah yeah....Amy maybe should have mentioned the heat and humidity! But I'm sure you'll agree that in this cabin it hardly matters.
Keep up the great work and let me know when I can start packing up my things!

Posted by: cristina at July 10, 2007 5:29 AM

Great progress everyone! I also hope that there will be a way down to the backyard from the back deck. That is awfully high! Plenty of room for a lower deck.

Penelope, did you figure it out yet? I run WinXP and was having problems too. The only way I can get the player to work is to click on the r on the right side of the vlog box. This gave me a scroll down menu and I chose Play In RealPlayer. It's the only thing that worked for me. Hope it works for you.

Hi Guys!!

Well, I know you are all busy and time is getting down to the wire on getting this place completed.

But we want another progress report. I am sure we are all checking the site to see if there are any updates and we're getting disappointed again that there is no news. PLEASE we want more news and vlogs and pictures. Is that roof done yet? How about that hot tub? How are the final touches on that kitchen going. What have we started new?

Help, HELP, HELP!!! We want more news. Sorry ahead of time for being a pain, for getting excited about seeing what's up, but we are all hungry for NEWS!

OH! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!! Thanks!

Thank you for the new slideshow pictures.

The cabin in Kinzel is PICTURE PERFECT! Thank you AMY & DIY Crew for putting so much care into your work. Us viewers will be glued to the tv waiting to see more of the cabin.

I can almost imagine myself resting luxuriously in that hot tub at the end of a long day. I'm pleased to know that 54,000 people voted for a hot tub along with my husband. :)

The cabinets and the handles look splendid. There is plenty of room to prepare food for guests atop the cream island. ;)

Posted by: Victoria at July 13, 2007 7:56 PM

I wanted to make a separate comment on the bedroom because it deserved unparalleled recognition with its distinctive wood beams and window bench.

My daughters comment.....
The room looks perfect for a thirteen year old! (She loves the bench and the closet space.)

I think the room is perfect for my husband and me. I'll keep dreaming until we enter to win!

It's been seven terrific months blogging with the wonderful people here on blog cabin. Sadly, it will have to come to an end in August. I wish my fellow bloggers luck and hope that the winner (if it isn't me) will sometimes think of us who contributed to blog cabin. :)

The new slideshow pictures are great. I love the screened-in porch with the pair of rockers that my husband and me intend on using once we win, hopefully!!!?

There was mention of an online tour starting August 2nd. Can you elaborate?

We miss Ron's Blogs. Hopefully we will get the opportunity to be graced with his presence on the online tour along with Amy.

The Cabin is absolutely Beautiful!! It takes your breathe away. The outside is stunning, the inside boggles your mind. The quality of craftmanship/craftwomanship is beyond amazing! Everyone that put their sweat and tears into building the cabin..Thank You.
Thank You for going the extra mile on this one. It surely shows. I am looking forward to August 2nd to see the Blog Cabin online tour, when we get to see it all. This is the Best Sweepstakes Scripps has ever had. Thanks DIY!

Hello Gang
The cabin is being finished in record time, thanks, can't wait for the contest. It is going to be a (masterpiece)in the mountains

Posted by: wesley at July 14, 2007 1:09 PM

Great to see things are moving along. I guess that since you say these will be last sneak peeks means that you are working on the finishing touches. By the way, does this cabin come furnished? Are there going to be shows on decorating as well? Love the kitchen and can't wait to see it all come together for a Grand Finale. Aug 16th is not going to get here fast enough.

Well, we will be off to Utah to see our grandkids, so maybe the time will fly. Thanks everyone for all the work you have put into this cabin. As expected, it all looks great and can't wait to see the show and get the contest going. Keep safe guys the end is near. YEAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Hi guys!!

Vacationed in Lexington VA, a few years ago...it was so hot (how hot was it!) even the cows were taking a dip in the farm pond (honest). It's a beautiful area. We took a little detour toward the State line into the foot hills of the smokies and it was wonderful! Looking forward to entering the sweeps.

I really am so excited to see todays post at the blog page. I loved the pictures of the cabin. This cabin is my dream home. I love it! I can not wait until Aug 16. to see the show and get a chance for this baby blog cabin. It's awesome. Thanks for all the hard work you all have put into this home. It's gorgeous!!!!! And some lucky person is gonna be so H-A-P-P-Y!!!!!!!!!!

WOW! Just viewed the last pics and am extremely impressed with the quality of the finish work in the cabin. Love the quality features, especially the boarder in the master floor and the kitchen sink is not only farm-style, it's a double sink. The staircase looks fantastic. The French-style doors leading to the deck. I could go on and on--let's just say WOW, I have gone from "THRILLED THAT SOMEONE WILL GET TO WIN A CABIN" to "I WANT THAT CABIN!"

And, Jason, love the idea of a blanket chest on the porch (and making it out of reclaimed wood makes it so special for us as both sides come from farming and carpentry backgrounds), just can't imagine having the heart to leave it outside! If we win, we will be bringing it inside. :-)

I just to tell you guy that the view from the screened in porch was unreal and the rocking chairs made you want to set and stay a for long time.

Posted by: janet bennett at July 19, 2007 10:28 PM

Hey Amy! We just got in from sitting on our back porch after this long hot day!!

The Blog Cabin is full of real nice quality work! We admire each one of you for your hard work and quality workmanship! And please tell Paul the kitchen is really making a statement! Ya know-IMPRESSED!

I hope that who ever wins this cabin will truely appreciate all that it has to offer! I've enjoyed reading everyone's blogs, vlogs, and the slideshows! They were all spectacular!

We'll be tuned in to the shows as always! Best of luck to all my fellow bloggers! It's been FUN!!

Posted by: Jacqueline at July 20, 2007 12:28 AM

Thanks Jason, I know the sweltering heat in Mid July in the south well. Good Luck...Wow things are really moving fast now. I think the reclaimed wood storage is a wonderful idea. I have some New England art done on reclaimed wood and I love and appreciate them. The entire cabin is really something to appreciate the craftsmanship of as well. Well here's another blogger with fingers crossed-Cheryl

APPLAUSE....APPLAUSE....APPLAUSE
That is for the DIY team and the super job they are doing on our blog cabin. The newest pics are wonderful. Those ceilings are to die for and even though I voted for the walk in shower (hey, they ARE pretty nice), the whirl pool tub is an awesome addition! You guys are too good to us.
Thank you for taking care of our baby blog cabin in progress, filling it up and out with all our ideas and wishes.
