OUCH Amy! I know that was probably ONE of your greatest experiences in building your first log cabin! Ya know, getting that splinter out!

Enjoyed all the related videos too! The outhouse one was funny!

AAANNNDDDD! I thoroughly enjoyed the second "Blog Cabin" series tonight! I was expecting to see a part of Dean and Derrick you and the bugs. In all respect though the real stone fireplace is drop dead gorgeous! In the 360 degree slideshow of the Blog Cabin I couldn't see those detailed carved in leaves on the mantle. What a fantastic idea! (It actually has given me an idea, but I'll have to purchase some carving tools). It really does bring the outdoors in along with the bark benches! Everything looks SUPER! And I must say it again-somebody is going to be truely blessed and the other millions or so losers can feel blessed that we had a part of blogging this beautiful hand hewn cabin!!

And to Karl Champley-CHEERS!!! You make wasted spaces exciting places!

Now we will patiently wait for the August 30th "Blog Cabin" series!!

Oh! One more question please. Was that the babbling brook I seen you bending down next to on the "Blog Cabin" series tonight the one that is located on the property? If it is WOW WEE! There is nothing like a real natural flowing water feature!

Ouch !! Amy, You are a brave bunny to do Surgery 101 on splinters embedded in your own hand !!

That was a honking BIG splinter ~ yet you said it was just a small 'un .
Yowza !! What would you consider a real flesh wound ??? A railroad spike in the sole of your boot ??!!

I particularly liked the Blog Cabin T.V.program today, with the signature in the bottom of the storage window seat~ that's a really nice touch to personalize the cabin.

Such a cute Aussie carpenter too :o) As you said: "Handsome AND talented"!
...and you went to ITALY, not Bondi Beach ??

G' Day !

EWHHH! That would hurt!!!

I'm not able to make too many comments as I missed your show last night. It's been storming here and our electricity went out. I was disappointed.

It sounds like another great show aired. I really wanted to see how the bench was built. It looks like some kitchen cabinets went up on last nights show (???).

Jacqueline mentioned that she got a glimps of the natural water feature. It would of been nice to have seen that too. Hopefully, the future episodes will present information on this.

HI AMY HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR TRIP THIS IS A WONDERFUL PROJECT THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE TO BUILD A DREAM CABIN THAN THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS I HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF LIVING IN THE GREAT SMOKY MOOUNTAINS THE WINDOW SEATS ARE BEAUTIFUL AN VERY USEFUL AND IT IS LOCATED IN THE PEACFUL SIDE OF THE SMOKIES AND TO KARL CHAMPLEY I DO NOT MISS HIS SHOWS OR ANTHING AMY WORKS ON WHO EVER WINS THIS IS VERY BLESSED TO LIVE IN A DREAM LOG CABIN CAN;T WAIT FOR THE NEXT PROGRAM TO AIR

Hi Amy, Hope your finger is better. I loved the show last night. That mantel was the so beautiful. The window seats look perfect for curling up and reading a book. The more I watch the more I see, and the cabin just keeps getting better and better!

Posted by: Kathy Seals at August 24, 2007 10:19 AM

Yikes Amy~
When in doubt use a razor knife to slice open your skin and the remove splinter! Well I guess it worked out fine because you seem to have all your limbs in the picture you posted from Italy. Call it resourcefulness.
As for the cabin...Watch the latest episode...all I can say is... "WOW"...nice surprises. The stained glass window in the bathroom is beautiful. How wonderful that it is done by a local artisan. I have often said to my husband that it is ashame that this country is losing it's desire to put their name to their work. When you build something with your hands you know that pride of workmanship.
Karl did a great job with the window seats. What a nice surprise he added by going under the house and finishing off the wall with storage shelves. A wine storage too! Fabulous...

Cheer's to Dean & Derek of Rock Solid for the beautiful fireplace. This might be the most beautiful feature in the cabin. I'm a little prejudice though, I just adore Dean and Derek. They remind me of what my two sons will be like when they are older. (My sons are best friends and they are always cracking us up! My daughter is more the project manager like Amy.)

Posted by: Karen at August 24, 2007 11:02 AM

Amy I felt your pain I know it had to hurt.Loved the show it was great what can I say about Rock Solid it was awesome last night and the landscape show after that when you think thing can't get any better it does you are great guy.

Posted by: janetbennett at August 24, 2007 12:27 PM

You poor baby, are you okay?
That was the first splinter but how many did you get by the time the cabin was done?

Posted by: Denise from Florida at August 24, 2007 2:03 PM

Great show can not wait to move in.
Sorry about your splinter.
I have started to pick out family room set.

Posted by: Dom at August 24, 2007 6:00 PM

Amy,
I'm in awe of your many talents...performing a "splinterectomy" without anesthesia; climbing on roof tops; plastering the keystone for the incredible blog cabin fireplace! I hope little girls across America are watching and say, "heh, someday I can do that, too!" (Well, maybe not the splinter thing...).

Great show again last night. Dean and Derek are handsome AND hilarious. What a combo. The fireplace will be the focal point in the room and the carved mantlepiece is magnificent.

The rustic bark facade on the bench seat was a great idea. Karl's touches have really enhanced an already beautiful and functional home.

Looking forward to each weekly installment of the Blog Cabin show--especially anticipating Gene Webb's carving of the hummingbird on the kitchen post! Rebecca from Cleveland

Dear Amy
That's the way to put your heart, soul & blood and sweat into your work, to get a sharp splinter, ouch! They do hurt no matter the stinking size, but you handled it better than most men would have. I didn't see a tear one. No no one. And no offense but being from ky. I thought that the chigger u-tuber was so funny! I hope you didn't get into any weeds with white flower heads -aka- a chigger patch. If you did and you got a big itchy knot. Then probably you found one. Them things will itch you nearly into a nut house. And yes the fingernail polish helps with the dry them up and with the itch some. Lye soap, well I don't know if it works but I do know where you could've bought some at: dollywood. I bought some there for my husbands grandmother one year. She used to make it years ago. In the real diy times. I personally think it stinks but it will clean & heal just about anything they say. But you know what it's hard to get rid of a chigger once you get one. They are itchy drive you nuts devils.... big yucky red itchy knots! Oooh yuck! I had them plenty as a kid.

I didn't get to watch thursdays 2nd show. We swithed cable networks and as my luck would have it, they were out of upper channel boxes dvrs and I had to miss the cabin show yesterday. They tried to deliver it today and again I missed out & them. Good news we got faster internet and I got to view the 360 viewer of the cabin. Drove me nuts that I had to miss but anyway you all have fun.... doing whatever you are doing now... Maybe I'll get my box in time to watch the repeat show. Sounds like I missed out on some fun.....

Could someone please tell me "Where in the Smokies" is this log cabin???

Posted by: Irene at August 24, 2007 11:25 PM

The Blog Cabin is in Kinsel Springs. Which is located in beautiful Townsend, Tennessee.

Posted by: Karen at August 25, 2007 4:49 AM

Irene if you go to the Smokies you can go to Townsend from Pigeon Forge. From Knoxville, through Maryville. They have signs pointing the way to Townsend either way. Look for Kinsel Springs sign. But I will warn you it is a gated community, you may not be able to enter. It is a pretty & peaceful place where it is located. I have been to townsend many times through out the years. I love it.

Posted by: Carrie Miracle at August 25, 2007 5:22 PM

Amy loved the blog cabin show tonight the fact that you all sign the stone was wonderful a nice touch the way you made the stone work was great.

Posted by: janetbennett at August 25, 2007 7:48 PM

Hey Guys and Gals great job!! Since I was 12 and saw my 1st log cabin I was in awe of it's beauty inside and out! I just love natural wood. I always vowed to retire in a log in the woods but when I became a disabeled RN from a job injury in 2000 my dream dissolved. But you allowed me to build that dream with your show and I can just picture myself rocking on the front porch watching the wild deer and birds in the yard. TY, I taped the show and watch it everyday. I just wished I could have been there to nurse all the "ouchies" and kiss and make them all better!!A little maternal inspiration!

Posted by: Edna Carlow at August 26, 2007 2:31 PM

Hey Amy! It's a good Sunday afternoon over here! Cloudy yea, but it has cooled things off a bit and I just put some chicken on the grill! But, before that I was patching up some holes on my quilt while watching the "Blog Cabin" series at six today. And I really like the idea of a stained glass window too! I think I might just try that on our master bathroom window. I'm not a glass cutter so I'm just going to visit our local craft store and see if some how I could make one to hang over my existing window!

Another idea that came to mind is making an outdoor patio and setting our chimnea on it because I really haven't utilized that chimnea yet. That idea came when I seen the "Blog Cabin" outdoor patio/fireplace. And I looked on DIY Website to see how I could go about getting started. And now my husband and I have some great ideas!

The "Blog Cabin" (f I may say so!) IS a great concept and also a great inspiration!

Is that granny window still considered a granny window even if it is not exactly next to that gorgeous drop dead fireplace? Ya know the window that WAS a Case and missing from the Blog Cabin.

Posted by: Jacqueline at August 26, 2007 7:30 PM

Amy,
What is it really like working with Dean & Derek? Them 2 guys are super talented and there work is awesome. It did appear that they did get a little snippy with the contractor kid that was mixing the thinset for them. When is the new episodes of DIY to the Rescue going to run, and where is the other cohost from that show?

Posted by: Logan at August 26, 2007 10:02 PM

Amy my husband loved the fireplace and that the mantel was a work of art it was a fireplace a man get very use to.I to am glad they are putting a lot of storage places into the cabin it is a must have. The picture of the master bathroom look just like you are going retreat at a lodge.. Guy keep sigh those are good keep sake and it make you wonder when they are going to turn up next.

It would be nice to see some detail of the wiring and plumbing. That seems to be a big mystery that isn't revealed when shopping for a cabin kit.
The oak leafs on the mantel face was a real nice touch. How much did that cost? I didn't hear it mentioned on the show.
I am impressed at how the 2 carpenters stepped up and did the metal roof, looks real good.
Amy, I hope you get a bigger budget for the 2008 cabin, if it's on a lake you'll need it.

I am lovin it, Chuck in Florida

Hello Amy, Got into Townsend saturday and finally got to see the Blog Cabin today. Met Mr. Doug Sparks and his dad Mr. Bo Sparks. Doug gave us a tour of the cabin. Everyone should be very proud of a job well done. I can't begin to describe hou beautiful it is. Even saw the hawks nest in the back yard. Good luck to all, it's a beautiful place.

Posted by: greg hubbard at August 28, 2007 6:43 PM

Oh greg h you make me so jealous, my husband & I drove right up to the blog cabin also, it is gorgeous! But I didn't get lucky enough to see anyone at the house for the reality tour and I didn't even get out of the vehicle. I feel blessed to have just seen it though from the driveway. It was fun to see it in real life.

And Victoria, hello, I just figured out you and I are running in the same blog circles. I was reading some of the old blogs and saw your hello on Hgtv dream home have you checked out the green home give away yet. They say it's gonna be in or near South Carolina. Personally I love the blog cabin best. It's my favorite vacation place and just maybe whoever wins it would probably have a good chance at keeping the blog cabin. But I would take the others too!

Good morning, Amy:

Has the "Name the Blog Cabin" contest concluded? I noticed that the number of votes for some cabin name options haven't changed, even when my husband and I both voted (different computers; different email addresses)?

Does the system count the votes by internet provider address vs. email address?

Thanks, Rebecca

Cabin Looks awesome. Love the detail work...especially the fireplace!

Hi Amy!

Okay!! I got my oak leaves and an acorn here on my computer desk. I'm getting ready to make a template and then to try out my new Bucks Brother wood carving tools I purchased today at Home Depot! It has six wood carving tools in the pack for under thirty dollars!! And I think I'll try out my new wood carving skills on a log table my husband made last year! The log table is setting on our back deck.

PS I feel like a big little sweet dum dum because I can't seem to download any pictures on the "Show off your Project!" I'm using a digital camera and going into "My Pictures Folder" to download BUT to no avail! Could one of you bloggers help this big sweet little dum dum out?

Posted by: Jacqueline at August 29, 2007 1:45 PM

Hi Amy! My husband came home just in time yesterday because I was getting ready to carve into his log table!! Well carving has started with more than one tip! And it is looking good for a beginner; however, the pair of acorn template I made did not get used because it was looking too exotic!! So I'll just go with all leaves! I will get it uploaded on the My Projects Show and Tell on DIY Network in about two weeks!

I never knew this either, but my husband and his family have always told me that after a splinter is extracted from your finger or whereever, you must put it in your hair so that where the splinter was removed from doesn't hurt...seems to fit in with what could be smoky mountain folklore.

Posted by: Mary at September 29, 2007 2:55 PM

Amy! That is my DREAM HOME! AND it is in the only place that has ever felt like home to me! What a joy to wake up every morning of your life and be in the Great Smokey Mountains! It does'nt get any better than that. What a wonderful project. I hope I win it.
