Today is the big day!
Hi Everybody,
Now that the cabin is finished, I took off to Italy for a much needed vacation.

Here I am in Rome. The architecture here is a little different than the log homes in TN.
But I’m checking in to remind you that Blog Cabin premieres tonight! Yea! Two new episodes will air back to back each Thursday at 9 and 9:30 pm EDT. Plus, even more importantly, the sweepstakes starts today, double yea!! Be sure to enter yourself to win and don’t forget that you can enter again each day, so make it part of your regular routine. You know, like flossing.
Also, please write in with feedback. I’d love to know what you think of the cabin, the show, me, the contractors, the camera angles, the materials, techniques, the area, the everything. Constructive or complimentary, sing to me please!
In return, I will sing to you. As promised, here are the answers to the questions you’ve blogged about.
Q. 1.Did you guys put tiered stairs off of the balcony to have access to the backyard?(for safety issues and so you wouldn't have to walk all the way around the house)
A. No, it wasn’t the highest priority on the list because the winners will most likely spend most of their time enjoying the back yard from the screened-in porch. All of the outdoor living area is in the front yard. Also, we did landscape in some earthen steps leading down the slope to the storage area under the house, so I feel we covered those bases.
Q. 2. Someone asked me if the cabin comes furnished.
(I'd just be happy being cuddled up asleep on that window seat.)
A. Yes it does, partially. We’ve included the basics like beds, dressers, couches and appliances so you can use it right away. But we were careful not to fill it up with too much stuff because we knew the winner would want to move in plenty of their things in order to make the space their own.
Q. Here is the question that has been haunting me for months..........
Who EXACTLY is "Goldilocks and The Three Lip-Lickin' Bears"?
A. I don’t know exactly but I suspect she’s a nice lady by the name of Hilary Ireland, who is also interested in the Blog Cabin and who is gifted at drawing parallels between her life and the popular children’s tale. I don’t know who the 3 bears are but I’m betting that it’s her family, in any combination of offspring, pets and husbands.
Q. Please induldge us with the cabin name posted out in the front yard (ex. BLOG CABIN or whatever was decided on).
A. I didn’t pick a name yet. In fact, I decided it was so important that, in true Blog Cabin spirit, it should be put to a vote. The poll is up on the DIY Blog Cabin main page. Make sure to vote for your favorite!
Q. Hey Amy! I'm back! With a fourth question! During the month of June we bloggers were brainstorming for a name for this beautiful hand hewn "Blog Cabin Retreat". And we noticed the very artistic wewela (meaning hummingbird in the Cherokee language). Who painted this beautiful hummingbird? Was it the lady who resides there in Kinzel Springs?
A. Actually, we had a local woodcarver by the name of Gene Webb carve and paint the main support post in the house. It looks great! This doesn’t mean the house is named “Welela Lodge” but it is an option on the poll, so it could be if enough people vote for it.

Gene Webb with his rattlesnake masterpiece.
Keep your questions coming. I’ll ponder them while I’m in Florence.
Ciao for now,
Amy

Hello Amy,
Kudos on a job well done. You deserve a vacation after pulling the "cabin" together. Can't wait for tonights premier. Blog cabin keeps getting better every day. Just viewed the 360 tour and it's breathtaking. Whoever becomes the proud resident of the Blog Cabin will be the luckiest person on the face of the earth in my thinking. A cabin of any condition in that area of Townsend or Walland has been my dream for more years then I care to remember. Congratulations to everyone involved in the project.

Oh yeah please please tell mr Gene Webb to leave the carved post but please please PLEASE take that SCARY RATTLESNAKE home WITH him. It gives me the creeps. shoo weee!!! scarry!!!!!!!!!! Or oh if it's stuffed maybe leave it on the porch to scare away the nosy people!!!!
Posted by: Carrie Miracle at August 16, 2007 1:26 PM
Amy, you and all of the crew did an outstanding job on the Blog Cabin. Totally stunning! You deserve to take a vacation. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. I have no idea what that might be, so just have a wonderful time.
You probably don't know this off the top of your head, but can we know what the lot size is?
Can you see any neighbors cabins?
What is that gadget by the shower in the master bathroom?
Just think now that you have done the Blog Cabin, how easy it will be when you help build next years! Want to try your hand at an earthsheltered home? What about a dome home, domespace or maybe the topsider? They would make great Green Homes that are zero energy. Sounds like fun..right? Just sleep on those thoughts..
Until next time..Kathy Seals

Amy,
You wanted feedback so here it is........
1. Cabin look rusticly perfect! It was very admirable that DIY used our input. :)
2. The birdseye views of the cabin had been longgggggggggg waited for! The pictures are crystal clear. I love the picture of the deer and flowers. They were so perfect I had to get my daughter's attention to show her!
3. Everything was displayed really well. I do have to admit, I searched for things about blog cabin more than I had anticipated. Which could be beneficial on DIY's part, so people will be viewing your entire site. I would of preferred having the items centralized into one location.
4. You and your crew look wonderful. It would of been nice to see you roasting marshmallows with your crew for a vlog. Perhaps, next year?
5. The materials that us bloggers had voted on came together nicely. The other materials selected and household items complimented those selections well.
6. Now, I have to WINNNN!!!! Please wish me luck! :)

We had a wonderful surprise !!! The Blog Cabin comes furnished !! That is awesome, and much more than anyone could hope to win ~ The Blog Cabin alone is a splendid prize !!

Amy,
Boy did you guys put in alot of work or what? Your vacation to Italy is well past due!! We got to see the house you guys finished last year in Lake Lure and it was beautiful! And from the looks of it the cabin is even better!! My husband and I have been married for 4 years and have dreamed of owning a log cabin or building one ourselves, so wish us luck, I hope we win, this would be a life long dream of mine.
Take care and enjoy your vacation!!

Just took the 360 tour. The cabin is everything I knew it would be. The furnishing is just enough. Now all it needs is the winners personal touch to make it home. You all did a great job.

Hi Amy way way over there in Italy! I know your having a really fun time and I'm glad! And I hope the others will take some time out too and relax!
I just got done watching the first "Blog Cabin Series" and che meraviglia di orologio!!!
I didn't realize seven layers are needed when roofing a log cabin with metal! WOW! What a task! And I will say Chris and Simon know everything about building a log cabin! They have got an answer for everything. Except, why the roofers hadn't arrived yet! And so Amy, what was your greatest experience in building your first log cabin?
Honestly though, I am glad the roofers didn't show up with the materials in time because we got to see a wonderful show of how to make a rooster weather vane! That was my favorite part of the series tonight! How are you going to feed him when your way over there in Italy? LOL!
The cabin is rusticly and perfectly BELLA and someone is going to be truely blessed!
PS Enjoy the Italian bread dipped in olive oil with a plate of your favorite pasta and red wine! Go ahead and celebrate a job well done!!

the 360 tour was a great idea. i must say that it turned out even better than imagined. the carvings added an elegant peaceful touch.
the fact that the cabin comes furnished just makes it even better.
congratulations on a job well done. :)

Hi, Amy:
Best wishes for a fabulous (and well-deserved) vacation in Italy!
I so enjoyed watching the back-to-back episodes of Blog Cabin last night! Thanks for the educational and entertaining series. The process of installing the metal roof was fascinating. Glad to see DIY was thinking about eco-friendly materials with the use of the cotton insulation.
I hope DIY is considered for some industry awards on the Blog Cabin process and series...you all certainly deserve it.
I've emailed my North Carolina "kinfolk" about the contest and show, and already planned a family reunion if I win it!! Thanks again, Rebecca

The show was great last night. The cabin is extra heavy duty super awesome, just like you said it would be.
I watched the 360 views and Im in love with it ALL, the whole cabin is great. I feel so good and weird knowing I had a hand in picking the designs for this baby, its been fun putting in my 2 cents and reading other peoples pennies.
Whether I really mean it ir not Im not sure, but I would like to say good luck to everyone.

Perhaps, I have an overactive imagination....
I strongly feel there is communication being conveyed to me through Hilary Ireland. :O ?
*The Three Bears Just Happen To Be Knowledgeable about Italy........
"We are happy that you are enjoying the delights of Italy, The Domo, Boboli Gardens, lattes, gelato, pasta, vino.... :o)"
*I requested luck and Hilary sure has uncanny timing to post things like this..........
"Very Good Luck to all the Bloggers out there, who we have enjoyed blogging with over the past several months !"
*The Three Bears seem to be on top of Amy's every move. Hilary is very creative and imaginative in her sign off every single time.........
"Goldilocks and The Three TOASTING Bears :o)"
*The Three Bears are now discussing the "Surprise" from the discussions back in March??? I've only been sharing the "surprise" information recently with the holder (administrator) of Blog Cabin???
"We had a wonderful surprise !!! The Blog Cabin comes furnished !! That is awesome, and much more than anyone could hope to win ~ The Blog Cabin alone is a splendid prize !!"
*The Three Bears posted shortly after my blog again.....???
*I also can't foresee the administrator allowing a blog to fall through the cracks misleading them to believe they would be meeting two very important people of DIY?
That is why I attempted a trial blog to Denise, Rebecca and Cindy.
I definitely would call this cabin..."Blogger's Bluff" !!! I also find the game table located within the walls of the cabin to be very thought evoking!!!
ON THE FLIP SIDE..... this sweepstakes has official rules.
I'll sit tight and see how Blog Cabin unfolds. By the way, your show last night was great as always!!! It was the best show I've watched. I felt like I was part of it!!!
Raise your wine glass to...... Vino!
Posted by: VICTORIA at August 17, 2007 10:37 AM
The canary sang!!! The selection of song was a bit confusing. Some of the lyrics were difficult to identify. I had a hard time with identifying the artist's name. Ironically, I've seen that name displayed on HGTV too!
Great show last night!
I viewed some of your video's yesterday on YouTube. :)

In February you mentioned slipping little tiny mementos into the structure as it's being built. You had indicated that they will be invisible and be our little secret. You may slip a story under the floorboard perhaps? You referred to these items as "capsule-esque clues about how our Blog Cabin came to be".
Will those mementos be shared with the general public or just the winner of the cabin?

Hey Amy & crew & DIY,
Hope you're having a great vacation & your crews taking it easy also?
You & your crews etc did a lot of hard work on building the Blod Cabin way to go job well done. Plus you had a great team working for you & I'm sure there are some fun time as well while building the cabin?
The cabin is just right & all the rooms are awesome etc it's a dream come true a very nice cabin.
What's even better the cabin is in the county wooden area some where in the Smokey Mountains TN area so you can kick off your boots or shoes so you can chill away from it all on the deck.
Everything you all had done building the cabin it's just so outstanding & you & your crew & DIY have me day dreaming on the cabin.
For the 1st time I had viewed the 360 tour today it's sooooo breadth taking WoW. I smiled when I noticed some of the items that I had vote on back in Feb weee doggies & they look so good in the cabin.
what is going on in basement area is that going to be the gym workout area with wood stove or fire place 1/2 or full bath etc I can not remember?
What is the lot size the cabin is on?
How much lands dose come with the cabin?
Do you know what the zoning area is on the land?
Is the cabin in or on the flood zone?
Is there a fire hiden near bye or close enough to the cabin in case of a fire?
Can you see any of the neighbors?
My mom told me when I was going to school I watch a log cabin being build every day & she told me to keep holding on to my dreams someday.
Please whish me & my hearing dog good luck on winning the Cabin Amy thanks.
You all take care, have fun, you & your crew did a great outstanding job on the cabin.

Hi Bella Amy! I hope you had a wonderful and exciting time in Italy! And that you've had some great experiences there with the architectual buildings , food, clothing, accessories, and the rich history of Italy!
I have been enjoying the 360-degree online tour while you've been away in Italy and I have a question about the hot tub. Where is the hot tub located?
Also Amy, do you think we could get a smidget of a video of the babbling brook with the water sounds? That would be really cool!
We noticed the blanket bench you and Jason made and it looks like a real masterpiece! Great choice for the hinges too!
Posted by: Jacqueline at August 20, 2007 9:54 AM
Hi Amy, Crew and all of the DIY,
I got a question. Do you have a picture or video of Mr Gene Webb's craved hummingbird that is painted. I think you should do a show about his work too.
Have a blast in Italy.

I am absolutely in love with the entire project and results. From the cuddly dormer window spaces upstairs to the inviting porch and it's whimsical railings. What a dream blog cabin it's turned out to be.

Hey Amy~^~We (my husband Jack and I) just got our first tour of that beautiful cabin and our heads are still in the clouds. (Smoky mountain clouds). We've been married for 54 years and every year when our four kids were still at home, we spent our summer vacation camping in the Smoky mountains. Cades Cove to be exact. There is no other place closer to Heaven than there. Now our kids are married and take their families camping there. My husband Jack and I are retired and it would be our ultimate dream to be able to spend the rest of our lives looking out at the most beautiful view on earth--those Great Smoky Mountains.

Dear Amy,
I'm glad to see you got some time off and got to travel to Italy. I'm hoping you bought some new clothes while you were there. No offense, I mean I think you're an attractive woman but your wardrobe on Blog Cabin and your other shows looks like an Old Navy store and a Walmart crashed and blew up in your closet. Maybe you could get on one of those other Scripps Networks style shows and get a wardrobe consultant, or some kind of wardrobe make-over. Maybe you can get some tips from Amy Devers. She always looks good. Maybe you can show this letter to your producers and get them to give you a wardrobe budget. Just a suggestion.
Otherwise, keep up the good work.

I felt like I was bouncing along on a little
love wave when I saw this cabin...it is just SO
beautiful! Every little thing about it is amazing! I love all the wood. The tour of the
cabin is dynamic! I felt like I was actually
standing in the house and could smell the fresh
wood!
As a kid growing up in Ohio with a mother from
Tennessee, my parents and I visited Tennessee
every summer to see her relatives peppered all
over the place outside of Crossville. I think
the closest town was Meridian. I remember the
steep mountain roads and my grandma's house
surrounded by the natural outdoor beauty.
I've been dreaming about a place just like this
for so long. Currently, I am in California.
Over the past 12 years the area has become so
impacted with people.
It doesn't take much to imagine sitting out on
the screen porch of the cabin in the summer or
tucked away snug inside around the fireplace in
the winter.
It would be a joy living there and hearing a
car, then seeing my relatives and friends piling
out for a surprise visit.
Currently, I am majoring in English and will be
publishing my songs and writings. This would be
a perfect place to continue my work. My best
buddies are a little dachshund and an old Cocker
Spaniel that are the lovingest things in the world. They also make great door bells!
If I lived here, I would welcome every visitor
like a long lost friend. I believe in the
serendipity of life.
You have done an amazing job and created a
dream life for someone in the future. Well done!

We spent a week in Cosby TN, right by Gatlinburg, this summer and I fell in LOVE with it all. Last thing I said when we left was that I WISH for a cabin just like the one we stayed in. This is it!
What a beautiful cabin. Great job.
The people of Cosby and Gatlinburg are so nice.

Dear Amy, Enjoy your much needed vacation in beautiful Rome! My husband Dan and I have been enjoying the construction of your beautiful cabin. We sold our honey colored log cabin in Colorado, to move to Penn. For various not so insane reasons combined with hopeful reasoning that some how morped into insanity we are in here wondering how did it morp???
I as it turns out, (another surprize) am still and will be on disability from teaching Special Education grades preschool to 12th grade. Dan an old jock is also on disability from multiple injuries that follow old jocks around. In any case we have tried to purchase a cabin here,(recreating our wonderful life in Baily Co. which included our combined 8 semi-mature children).
Much to my dismay and disppoitment were not successful in our cabin search. Somehow even here in farm country, logs immediately raise the eyebrows of the builders with thoughts of dollar dancing in their heads. The dollar signs dancing in our heads have turned in their dance cards!
I have so enjoyed watching you build, work together, and come to the near completion of your fabulous project with the outdoor fireplace currently in creation. The porch, the shower, the home is perfectly inspired by so many people and it is in harmony with the beautiful greenery surrounding it.
For two people such as us who haven't been able to return to the lifestle or the kind of home we loved, accepting the limiltations, economically and finacilly, has been such a headache.
I want to thankyou for your fabulous ideas and all the work your team put in. I'm not sure that a thumbnail scetch of our current life's circumstances was appropriate to share, but maybe it's part of the joy I feel everytime we drive past a beautiful cabin and wonder how could we.... It has been great to watch the construction of your cabin. Your work has been energetic and creative. Thankyou for your idea to involve we the nonbuilders in your planning and for your time and energy. I'd love to meet all of you! Sincerely. Kim Ryan

You did a fantastic job on the cabin. You are a really good project manager. You kept control of your team really well.
I teach Electricity at a Votech in WV. So I would have liked to see how the cabin was wired. I also would have liked to see the AC going in.
I hope DIY has more projects for you to do. You put your heat and soul into them.

Amy & All, The cabin is breath taking awesome! My dream of a lifetime! It has it all, great kitchen, fireplace, inside and out, enormous shower and a view out of this world! You all did such a fantastic job and all the suggestions that were input to make the cabin what it is - truly a work of art. I was watching the building you all are a great group! Fantastic results! Great Problem solvers! The trucks on the hill were funny but no problem someone was there to take it in hand... but you all usually do...I'll keep my fingers crossed that I could get my dream home! God bless you all... Enjoy the vacation! Again fantastic job Acolades!!! patty

My husband and I enjoyed so much every Thursday night watching your show. We go to TN every year and stay in a log home. We are from VA near the Skyline Drive. We love the mountains and your blog cabin looks so inviting. We did not get to enter any suggestions but would have loved too. My husband has always dreamed of living in a log home. We love watching your show and hope to see many more log homes built. Have a wonderful vacation.
