On your show, which ran today Oct 25th 2007, you discussed using Granite for your counter tops in the Log Cabin. Great idea, BUT when you talked about the ancient use of Granite as a building material, for the construction of structures, you made a huge error in your statement (alluded to) that the Egyptian Pyramids were built of Granite.
Wrong! The Pyramids were built primarily of two grades of Limestone for the core (rough) and the outside layer (fine); Basalt and Alabaster for floors and in SOME of the Pyramids pink Granite for the walls of the chambers of the Kings and Queens rooms.
Granite is found in the far south of Egypt, but it is rare and difficult to mine, so it was used exceedingly sparingly in any royal construction. It was primarily saved for the palaces and temples, not the pyramids.
I don't know who gave you that bad information, but you should really verify - verify - verify like a good journalist.
Oh, I am an Anthropologist and had done many years of research in North Africa.

Love the ideal for a green friendly blog cabin. Suggest useage of a wind generator or solar heat. My personal preferance would be overlooking a lake rather than a ranch, even though I am from Texas. Although this is my first time to blog, I hope to be able to keep track of this second cabin. I missed out on the first one but was pleased with the results and use of local craftsmanships. I regreat the only drawback to my personal preferances was the painted rug on the floor. Though the job was inovative, it just would not have gotten my vote as to what I would want. Other than that, GREAT JOB!!!!

I watched the building of your first cabin and it was a wonderful experience. It is definitely a WOW! I want to win this new Blog Cabin to escape from the bustle of where I live in California. I'm in need of a slower pace of living. My roots are in the South and this looks perfect. This is my first time blogging so I hope to keep up.

Although I believe any cabin on any lake for me would be great,I also believe Tenn. is really too cold for me, but a sure fire winner , ofcourse I'd take it.I've had a lot of people ask which I;d prefer, cabin on the beach or cabin on the lake?? Give me the lake everytime!

I would like to see the 2008 cabin be more universal in design. Maybe adding a 2nd bedroom to the first floor with roll in shower! It is easy to make things universal while building so why not include everyone in the plans. A little wider hallways and doorways etc can make everyones life easier without looking "special".

Is "modication" in anybodies dictionary?
For people who already have everything in life, perhaps a cabin would be a nice addition.
I'm just trying to keep a very substandard roof over my head, especially with the economic downturn.
At my age, I have been through the Depression and would rather not go through that again, but if it educates the know-it-alls concerning reality, I'll suffer through another unnecessary event.

Certainly a wonderful opportunity for a family, couple, or single person to achieve a lifetime dream. This process also provides the pre-training in preliminary planning in building a new home and what options are available to a home buyer/builder and resources for researching products. Thanks for the fun opportunity.
