Make it Count: the Final Round of Voting is On!

Hello Dedicated and Highly-Appreciated Bloggers,

The long, prolific voting period for Blog Cabin 2008 is winding to a close, but not before we make some final choices: a furnishing built by Chris and Simon (bedside table or bookshelf), the paint collection for the great room, Ahmed's landscaping project (raised bed, split rail fence or trellis) ...

... and last but not least, the name for Blog Cabin 2008 - as suggested by YOU, our trusty Blog Cabinites. The finalists were selected by a crack team from RIVR Media, DIY Network and your beloved website DIYnetwork.com. A huge thank you to all who submitted names - ya'll are the best!

Cheers,
Watson, DIYnetwork.com Manager

Watson, did you attend the Grand Opening? (incognito, of course!) I know you were not on 'the list', but I am just curious if you made an appearance behind the cameras. We know you are among the many who seem too shy away from full face visability on the cabin cam! wink

Watson: Haha - I was not in attendance, Keight - I drove to Banner Elk, North Carolina, for a friend's wedding and wasn't able to be there. And yes, I do like a little bit of mystery - that's half the fun, right?

Posted by: Keight at May 19, 2008 4:24 PM

I can not believe people are voting to put a fence around the cabin. Please do not close the cabin off from the beautiful nature around it!!

Posted by: cntblv20 at May 19, 2008 4:39 PM

I am pleading with voters not to vote to fence off the cabin from the beautiful nature around it!!

Posted by: cntblv20 at May 19, 2008 4:42 PM

Watson: Ahh...yes....a little bit of mystery ... good for the soul and half the fun, too! Hope you were able to maintain your air of mystery at the wedding, too!

Ahmed: Just wondering ... Will it require a special variance by the A.C.C. to put up the fence at the street area of the cabin? The R&C seemed to discourage the use of fences:

Section 10 Walls and Fences: In general, walls and fences are not encouraged within Lakefront Estates Subdivision, as they are often contrary to the architectural and landscaping concepts as well as the sense of community that is promoted at Lakefront Estates. Hedges, berms, and other landscape alternatives are preferred. However, in keeping with the desire of some Owners who may want to have swimming pools or gardens (as applicable), walls and fences will be permitted on a restricted basis that will not detract from the overall appearance. Construction of walls and fences will only be of wood, masonry, wrought iron (including stone, stucco and brick), or masonry and wrought iron used in concert. Picket fences including white four board vinyl may also be permitted if they are in keeping with the approved architectural design of the Structure and landscaping for a particular Lot. Chain-link fences are prohibited except around tennis courts with the prior written approval of the A.C.C. No wall or fence of any kind shall be erected, maintained, or altered on any Lot without the prior written approval of the A.C.C. of plans and specifications for such walls and fences. No wall or fence over five (5) feet in height shall be permitted except for special conditions approved by the A.C.C. In general, it is encouraged that no wall or fence shall extend forward at the rear corner of the house.

I am certain you researched this option prior to including it in the voting option and just wonder if you would be so kind as to give us some input on the views of the community on the erection of a fence in front of the Blog Cabin. Thanks!

Posted by: Keight at May 19, 2008 5:19 PM

Watson:

Why the same color choices? What was the sense of putting up the palette blocks if they aren't choices?

Posted by: Leslie at May 19, 2008 5:32 PM

First of all - I agree about the fencing - leave it open! Split rail fence not that attractive anyway and a pain to mow and trim around.

Second - how does one enter the Blog Cabin Sweepstakes? Can't find it on the site anywhere.

Hi Keight! I just had to blog here as we need to be loyal to one another as fellow bloggers....right? I will try to help you out on the Mystery of our beloved Watson Hawkins. The mystery will be revealed to you if you google "Watson Hawkins"..you will then come upon the Level 3 Red Couch Interviews for the Webby Awards... you will then see, our beloved Watson being interviewed. As he was awarded the People's Choice (Voice) Award. (he is too humble and shy to talk about it) If you view this tape you will see a very nice looking distinquish fellow with black glasses and sporting a goatee. That is Watson Hawkins...no more incognito. I felt it my duty as we bloggers must stick together. LOL

Okay, its just a little country fence. I don't think that a rail fence would be so bad. But I will look into it further before I vote again.Ahmed Hassan:Alright Pam and the rest of you guy's, here the low down on the split rail fence.
I will be building this decorative fence with the tree logs that were removed for construction(recycling)
Logs would be run through the lathe at Barna (approx 8") the rails would be logs ripped into 4 quarters
This fence is totally decorative and would help create a planting area at the top of the drive way a couple hundred feet up and away from the Cabin("Waters edge" j/k:)
because this fence is not obtrusive and totally open as to not block the view or the beauty, I think that it would totally be approved.
I would recommend growing a few flowering vines on the fence and planting some perennials in front and back of it.
This is simply a way of dressing of the frontage road for our Cabin and designating the property.final height of fence would not exceed 4 feet and style is totally open(split rail country) There's my rationale I totally think about these things ,come on!:)

Keight I posted just hours ago to you. I gave you a source to go to which would reveal Watson's face to you. However, it was not posted. Whether it was Watson or Ahmed....it was not posted....sorry.

Hey Watson, I know the voting is over but I was wondering if a hot tub on the deck is still possible? How bout a porch swing?
Thanks, Rock

Posted by: rock at May 19, 2008 8:43 PM

Watson,

Why were the color choices moved around - are you trying to confuse us so we will vote for another pallette??????? How come the voting on the colors finally registered for the correct number of votes - it had been showing only a few for the last week or so.

Still disappointed with the names chosen for the cabin.

cntblv20 I agree with you why build a fence around this gorgeous cabin - it will only spoil the look.

Prayers are with cabincraver and Erika along with BlognBob's wife.

Take care all.

Hi all! We just got back with friends-- we were out on our Friends boat with some other neighbors (11 of us total) on the lake for an after dinner cruise. We went over to the Blog home as none of them had seen it from the lake, and I was telling them how cool it was from the lake. We stopped the boat over there and had strawberries, cheese & crackers, wine and soda, etc... . We were laughing, as our friend has a really nice (and pricey) boat called an Eliminator. We said it was appropriate to be out on their boat there tonight, as that is definitely a high end community.
By the way-- I think they might've been filming over there today too, as I think I saw the truck they use when they film.

Maybe they did research it and maybe not. Remember they didn't research the original design of the cabin and it's unacceptability to the LVE regs. - No detached garages for example. Maybe we can have raised beds or the trellis - my choice - after all.

Glad to see the 'blah' pastels aren't winning for the great room paint choices. Let's have some rich colors please, no more pastels.

Bookshelves please. You can never have enough of these. Tables are so easy to come by but decent, well made bookshelves customized for a home are a rarity. No mdf or 'chipboard' in these so no warping and sagging. Hooray!

If they can install some access, possibly a ramp, to the wraparound deck that would be awesome. There must be a way onto the deck apart from via the house. Remember folks, a ramp is not just for disabled access. What about small kids who are in danger of falling down all those steps and it's so much easier to bring big furniture items up a ramp than up stairs. With an access ramp everyone wins.

Judging from the drawings, I believe the fence will be unobtrusive. It looks as though it will accent the property instead of hem it in. My concern is about the name everyone voted for Serenity anything sounds like a grave yard or funeral home to me. But the property is gorgeous and the home is really shaping up. I think whoever wins it is very blessed. Thank you guys for doing these contests.Ahmed Hassan: You are absolutely correct about the fence, I just responded to Pam Cameron

Ahmed,Chris,Simon, and all our wonderful craftsmen and persons.
Whatever beautifully hand crafted items that might go into this home. I hope you good folks will sign and date your work for us to remember not only your mastery but also that we might know the quality of the heart you possess forever.

When one of my children buy me something for either my birthday, or fathers day or Christmas, It is not the gift purchased that I hold most dear, but the loving scribbles or drawings that come from them that are truly priceless to me. Because those things made with the true purpose of heart are priceless to me above all else I know.

The happiest people don't always have the best of everything.
They make the best of everything !Ahmed Hassan: BnB, I like what you're saying but haven't set this precident and already have some custom items at the house. I appreciate that you appreciate the craftsmanship, creativity and the passion that we all are putting into this home and will share this blog with the crew!

I'm a first time blogger, but long time viewer/reader and I think that the cabin is aesthetically stunning! To me, it appears as though all design options were made in order to create symmetry with the surrounding environment. I look through the design choices given and wish that I had the same “creativity" and the ability to skillfully plan such a magnificent home as the Blog Cabin Experts .

My hats go off to the developers and designers at DIY for allowing viewers, like me, to participate in the developmental process. It has been a lot of fun! My hope is that the winner of this year's cabin will realize what a wonderful gift they possess.Ahmed Hassan: First, Welcome to the blog! Second, amen to all of what you wrote!

OH!!! AHMED....

Raised garden boxes! Rustic fencing! A wonderful trellis! How to choose? I love them all! I want them all! Since I could only choose one today...I took the garden boxes. I can just see them filled with an assortment of herbs, veggies, and colorful blooms perhaps trailing down across the logs. You indicated there might be more than one, I hope so! LOL

I'm greedy I want several!

I'm still trying for some beautiful glowing color not the putrid pastels. I hope the designers like beautiful color....in the rooms that no choice is being offered on. LOL

On the name choice I voted for Shore Livin', today. It may be Water's Edge tomorrow. I agree with Stacy...Serenity anything sounds like a nursing home or cemetary. No offense anyone! I would just like a name with a little livelier sound.

I love the tulip poplar bookcase(s), but I wouldn't turn down that warm cherry table. I have a tulip poplar in my backyard and it's blooming now. Are there any of these wonderful trees near lot 5? I love watching the large leaves sway in the wind.Ahmed Hassan: I like them all too, but don't think that time will permit building all 3. I think that the split rail fence will offer the most "bang for the buck" so to speak, and would want the raised planters next( I'm concerned about animal invasions of plants in them and the living trellis is 3ft wide and basically a column of soil about 8ft tall with plants growing out and around all sides, this is a unique idea that, if wins I'll have to figure out precisely how and where to construct.

Hey guys, how about another slide show for those of us who didn't make it to the open house? MMMM

I miss the name game already! Voting for a name isn't as much fun as making the names up. (sigh)

I'm signing off for now! Good Night All!

Thanks Heading South (may 19 @ 5:55pm)!

Just finished watching the interview ... I don't know that I would have made the connection of the award and our dear Watson, if you had not shared the link. Now, Everybody needs to take a minute and go look at it to see him go all showbiz for the cameras!

And to: Watson Hawkins ~ You have been holding out on all of us! But you should have known someone would google you and pass along the link sooner or later! So, here is another question for you: Did you decide to go clean shaven and wear contacts (or go without your glasses)so that you could retain your mystery man image in the cabin photos? Or were you in disguise for the Award Ceremonies? (wink)

Oh... and Heading South.... I am so glad you told me exactly where to find the information on our dear Watson Hawkins. Case in point: I had done a google search of the name 'Ahmed Hassan' when it first appeared in connection with the Blog Cabin and was amazed to find 'him' listed as a famous soccer player! A few entries down, our DIY Ahmed Hassan was listed. In the weeks that have past, a google search now places our Ahmed Hassan ahead of the listing for the soccer player! Check it out if you have a chance. Ahmed Hassan: I guess you could say I'm movin on up eh!

A few requests, please:

- will you please post here or put in one of the TV shows an explanation of how you did the driveway coming in, as it is close to the edge of the property right where there is a distinct dropoff & right where you would turn to go into the furthest garage. Backing out of that garage might get a bit tricky unless it was done very carefully.

- porch swing would be nice

- screened in porches & lower level patio (under the porches on the main floor) would be very nice too

- stairs from the porch to the side at the front & also at the back (so one can get to the lake) would be very nice too
Ahmed Hassan: Driveway is tighter than we would like it to be but it's too late to make the house smaller. There will be a retaining wall on both sides of the house, the one by drive will come up and become a small wall, left side will have stairs through it in order to access back yard. No screens will be installed as of yet but I will personally buy the winner their first can of bug-off spray:)

My fellow bloggers,

I think DIY/RIVR did the best they could narrowing down our name suggestions from hundreds to just five, but the choices are pretty ordinary, don't you think? You know what they say about decisions made by a committee...............
Are we now dealing with the "Blah Cabin."

As far as the fence is concerned, I think it is the best of what we were given to vote on. Vegetable gardening can be a full time occupation, so no raised bed for me, please. And my husband and I can build a trellis ourselves. I am pleased to see recycling of materials wherever possible. Let Ahmed do his thing with the fence.

Onward and upward!
Ahmed Hassan: Would'nt you say that out of the ordinary names that "Waters edge" is the most appropriate though?

Posted by: Tingoat at May 20, 2008 7:15 AM

Everyone.... read what is being said...

The Fence is only a single line at the top of the property to grow vines and define the property.. it is not a fence that goes around the property line.... IT is decoration... like a wishing well, wiskey barrel with flowers.. it is decoration... not a fence to enclose the property.. this will make our Bolg Cabin stand apart like it should..

On the paint colors... the first was for the bedroom.. pastels won.... calming & relaxing.. just what a bedroom is suppose to be..
NOW we are voting on the color of the Great Room... so it looks like the majority (so far) is going toward a more bold color... which seems more likely for the bloggers...
2 different rooms... 2 different color choices...

The name... is for the show to set this blog home apart from the 1st and hopefully more to come in the years to come....
The name for the winner will be of there choosing.. it will be personal for them...

Thank you Ahmed for trying to explain your reasoning & more details on the split rail fence.. I think everyone appreciated the extra information....and will hopefully understand your reasoning for doing it...

Cabincraver prayers are sent your way...

Thank you ladies for letting us know about the open house...
Heading South thanks for the info on Watson.. I will look it up...

Everyone have a safe Memorial Weekend....

Hey neurotic poster! read what you submitted..."walls and fences will be permitted on a restricted basis that will not detract from the overall appearance. "... that's your answer. The fence will be acroos the property to deliniate the road from the cabin property. Not a bad idea, and an expensive labor intensive project. There's going to be a whole subdivision going in there, don't you want to know what's yours is yours? Geez.

Posted by: kelli at May 20, 2008 9:47 AM

Hey Folks! I've been pretty quiet(maybe not pretty), just quiet. I'm afraid that I have to differ with some of our bloggers. NONE of the names really reach out and grab me; none are really "homey, warm or down home" maybe I'm too much of a country bumpkin'. In the same sense, I wouldn't want a bunch of bright, beachy colors to keep me awake at night. And as far as the book shelf,I just personally prefer the bedside table because of the cherry finish and I believe a good table would require a little more craftsmanship for a realy sturdy construction.

The Fence:A well designed and built fence(with material taken from the site and developed by Barna should totally coordinate with the log package designed by them). The sketch of the fence appears to be a traditional country style. The fence would contribute more to the appearance of the property and value. the other two choices are simple items tha can be added by the winner without much trouble. AHMED, I have total confidence in your ability to produce a great FENCE across the top of the property(perhaps with a nice running rose or azalea; if suitable for that area) confederate jasmine is nice too.)

It is kinda like the difference between a Democrat and a Republican.(A Dem says why; and a Republican says WHY NOT?)

If my difference is objectionable, I apologize, I just don't see OUR Blog Cabin as a bright, hot wired place to party! I see it as a quiet "serene place to retire with my 60 years and enjoy a peaceful rest of my life. perhaps my 75 yr old Gator anything blogger friend could come visit? Maybe any of the rest of the Bloggers, you're welcome anytime. Helen, expect to see you with some brownies(by land or by sea!)
My door will be open for any of you; Misty we'll work it out.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL! Cabincraver, all things are possible. Ahmed Hassan: Jimmy, I'm cool with all that, But back up! from my girl Helen, she's my!! brownie connection. I can't be share'n everything!!!

hello bloggers:

Was hoping for comments on the open house, I havent seen any.

I agree no fence would rather see the raised garden safe from animals.

Books shelves always needed they would be great.

I hope the lighter colored palette isn't chosen for the great room. We need color. Are we going to get to chose the color of the kitchen?

I was also disapointed with the name choses so many were less generic, so I went with bloggers bay since we have made so many choices.

I agree with warren the ramp benefits all. I have bothe a ramp and steps to my deck and everyone uses the ramp, should have saved money left the steps off.

I think the decorative fence with flowering vines like clematis would be a wonderful addition and perfect for the area.

As always, great job and thanks for keeping us updated with the pictures, cam and blog.

Watson - the name fits you, I like it when a name fits the personality, Mr Mystery.

I love all of Ahmeds ideas, the fence would offset the beauty of the beautiful log home, not block it. The raised garden would be perfect for myself and others who love to garden but have a hard time due to acessibility plus there's nothing better then fresh veggies and kids seem to eat what they grow. The trellis is also beautiful, I really think Ahmed spent a lot of time with all his designs, thank you Ahmed!

Names - I don't understand how these were chosen, they are all great names but I saw other names that others agreed were great and some of these I didn't see anyone agreeing on other then maybe one word in the name. I thought the names were chosen by how many bloggers mentioned it was their favorite and those with the most mentions were narrowed down to 5, am I mistaken? It seems if a certain word was used it made the top 5 regardless of the other words in the name. Serenity, Lake, Watt's were the common thread it seems but there were numerous other names that included these words so why were only the first ones allowed for voting? Maybe someone could explain this to us as it seems many are not happy with the names and many are already saying they'd change it. BlognBob's name for CabinCraver had the most mentions but didn't make it in, why?

Voting will soon be ending so I'm still hoping Erika or someone contacts one of the bloggers so we can see about a laptop for CC. I left our email on the previous blog so anyone wishing to contact us at any time about donations for taxes, laptop, or just friendship can reach us anytime they'd like. We'd like to stay in touch with many of you when this ends.

Once again, thank you to EVERYONE about accessibility, y'all are the best bloggers on the internet!

Good Luck & Great Health To All !!

Hoping everyone had a wonderful time at the OPEN HOUSE...

I hope now that the filming is over, they might remove those steps from the front...
I really think that it takes away from the house (too many peaks in one area)

Please reconsider back filling enough to put wide steps off the front... (wedding cake steps would pull together the accent windows better)
Or just wide steps coming down, to bring together the two side porches!

And a ramp off the left side would be out off the way, but allow for access to the back yard as well as wheel chair friendly... Problem solved...

Prayers going up for all my blogging family... Yins too DIY Gang!

Ahmed and Bloggers
Personally I like the fence, after all you are recyling logs from the property, is Clive's or Blognbob's little girls oak gonna be part of it? If not use it for something for the kids, Like a ladder for that hopeful tree house or bunk beds in the kids room or even a kid sized bench. It would really suit the property to me, it is open railing and the planting could be low to the ground or climbers on the post! Or some Pompass grass at the ends if it don't block traffic flow vision and choose deer proof. You know more than me. Bloggers you do get a good view of the home when parked up at the drive way, guys @ street level. The drive is kind of steep it was a small hike out of there. But I must say I was so intrigued with the trellis vote option, is that pots hanging off of it ? and where will it be located?
I want to know if also you talked to the Ted about the lift or ramp access for the porch or best location. I'm wondering if at the garage end of the porch would be a better location for the ramp too! If it will be included yet or not? or promised later if needed! I'm sorry I missed you at the hill at 5ish, I saw Cameron leave in that hurry you said he would be in! We were ready to leave and little man Carter was getting a little tired at that point! I had already put him in his carseat. I waved at you as we pulled out in our blue truck. You had your posse of fans so, it probably took a while for you and I saw you had a long day even after that! You have a great spirit about you and a sweet tooth we all know! I hope we didn't disturb you too much when Lisa waved at me from the drive, and told me & took me on the much anticipated tour I dreamed of. I couldn't pass up the opportunity! She said to be quiet! Her guy work associate was the one who really ightly tried to get upstairs for the peak but the steps told on him! (too funnY!) Lisa told me to be quiet and her work associate (j.k guys) was the one who did it! I saw you guys through the crack in the basement from the foyer! That was funny to me all I could see was a few heads bopping around and hear you all talk some. It sounded like filming, but you also were having fun, but couldn't quite make out the words and I had the biggest urge and started to come down the basement stairs a flying to scare you! But I knew I would probably not be welcomed there from that point on...(lol) even a rubber snake hanging through that crack would've been a good gag on you and the guys. I wonder which twin would have got out first, Or the other diy man Cameron would have nailed it or me to the wall. The poor camera man in trouble for droppin and breaking the cam.... Being you & cameron are both gardners you probably would have checked to see if the rubber snake was poisonous first then toss it out with me! so I thought twice. I saw the appliances, you got the blue washer and dryer thank you my favorite one and that was a pretty fridge. too excited to be any nosier I just kept walking in circles touching this and that! I loved the log rack and tub on the master deck. Is that our outdoor shower? (ha!) I guess most of the work has been going on downstairs. The main level looked alot like the last video or pictures we bloggers had seen. But then I couldn't see much of it, our schedules conflicted and I had to be quiet. (SHHH!) Thank goodness Carter didn't start shouting out his usual echo test of a new place. Well I can't wait for that scoop from video or pics. He liked the log rack. I was so impressed with the quality of everything. It's a master piece and all you working on it are master artists. I love you all and I want that house! I told the tale on the last blog of my adventures if you want to read them. I can see some stone steps or a curvy path to the porches from the drive way and hopefully a lift or ramp for the family who wins, so all their friends and family can enjoy the home and be part of all the fun! I loved the porches! The front yard does lay differently than the cam pictures show us bloggers. I more slope up to the road. Wait till it snows good there the kids will love sledding there! Well I gotta go! Have a safe trip home. And guys give those kids & wifes of yours a hug. We appreciate them letting us borrow you!Ahmed Hassan: Carrie you are a wonderfully terrific woman, it was a pleasure to finally meet you and a pleasure to read about your personal adventures at the Cabin

Hello everybody! This is my first time blogging with you all! Yesterday was the first time I saw the blog cabin! 2007's was amazing! I can't wait to see this years! It was fun to be able to vote on some things! I can't wait to see what wins the vote! As for Ahmed's fence idea, I did vote for it. I really don't think it will take away from the cabin at all because of it being an open rail fence. Just imagine it with flowers in front and behind it! The vine would be beautiful too! Till tomorrow, bye.

Winding down on the voting? So hard to believe. This has been so much fun. I'm hoping for a raised veggie (flower) bed. I also hope we get to start entering soon. Last years entries started around August, maybe we can start entering sooner than that this year!?! It's been so much fun getting to know all of you even if I don't post as often. Good luck everyone. ~Betty~

Ahmed, I like the idea of the fence to plant around. I'm glad you defined it a bit for everyone. I am disappointed with the name choices. Oh well, It wll always be DIY's Rainbows END to me. I was thinking about the wheelchair ramp and have decided that whomever ends up living there would want to do it there own way. Perhaps even a chair lift up the basement stairs. I am disabled myself so it is not that I don't understand the hardships it can cause. You can't prepare the cabin for every potential disability. Keep up with the wonderful work, and attitude!! Posted by: Bonnie C at May 20, 2008 2:42 PM

Not voting on any of the names,, don't like any of them, BUT did vote for the raised bed,, greatest thing for kids and people who cannot normally do a garden,, especially when they say it is "critter proof".. no way on a fence,, I would rather have that wood used for a swing or berm for the garden,, fences are for city-slickers!!LOL!
The smell of freshly-sawn wood is heaven!!!

I just can't wait to see the finished cabin, wish I could get up to Watts Bar & check it out in person. I Used to live in Spring City on Watts Bar lake and I'll be honest and say I hope I win so I can go back home!! This area is a great place for the cabin... great fishing, beautiful fall foliage, comfortable summers, and a really great lake to play on, just doesn't get any better!

Ahmed, does the fence go all around the property or is it just at the frontage? Ahmed Hassan: If it wins(and it looks like it might) The fence would run the distance at the top of the property only (Left prop. line to driveway and from driveway to right side prop. line) Probably set back 6-8 ft from road.

I have to say that I have had so much fun voting on the cabin. Everyne has had awesome ideas and designs. There are so many options and some of them were difficult because all were great. I can't wait to see the face of the winner when they see this huge blessing that will truly be Serenity! Thank you for allowing me to participate! Ahmed Hassan: Thank you for being part of and for your compliments

Carrie, Helen, and Sally, Thanks again for all the information on the open house. Carrie I went back twice to read your second story. Running inside the cabin absorbing everything your eyes can behold....Even though I have not met you, I could just about picture you going in and running around. I had a feeling that the master bedroom would be small...I had mentioned once or twice about a king size bed, but there was not response to it. I hope you are rested up by now from all the excitment of the open house, and your story did indeed help my Blog Cabin OCD,....now I can breathe. LOL!!! :-)

Cabincraver and Erika....Please contact DIY we all want this lap computer to be available for you one way or another. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how you are doing, we miss you...

Misty, so glad you enjoyed that website about Molly...I knew you would enjoy it.

Ahmed....I was thinking on that empty space out front on the right and the left of the steps...I thought you might want to consider putting in purple Clamatis...one or two on each side...they grow up and out on a trellis, and are very beautiful.

BlognBob, so happy to hear that your wife is getting better.

Happy Blogging Everyone! Ahmed Hassan: Yeah those two spots on either side of the stairs are an issue for me that I'll touch on later. They'll be dealt with, I'll get more into this as the landscaping begins to take shape.

Ahmed
We agree with you about the fence you plan to build. It is a great way to recycle leftover wood. In fact, all of your choices would be great to add to the cabin.
Keep up the good work!! Have a great Memorial Day.

Ahmed, thanks for responding to my comment from yesterday. Yes, I agree, Waters Edge is the best choice. It is the only selection I would not change if I were lucky enough to win the cabin.

Fellow bloggers, please consider the Around the World paint scheme for the great room. The colors are so rich and vibrant. Also, I'm glad to see that Simon's bookcase is doing well in the voting.

I have had such a good time participating in this process! If DIY builds a cabin in 2009, how about a beach location? I could really get into that.

Thanks for the 2008 memories, Ahmed, Watson and all at DIY!

Is it just me or does the fireplace hearth look a little crooked in the pictures posted?

Posted by: Andrea at May 21, 2008 7:55 AM

Helen, I just checked out the Herald-News and saw a beautiful photo of the Log Home. My Goodness! it is just so beautiful....looks very high end! Carrie, you are right that a close up is quite different from the cam shots. It gives a much better perspective on the overall appearance and the quality of the Log Home. I was dissapointed not to see any photos of you or Carrie or Sally. That would have been nice. However, I just know our Ahmed will come throught with a website video or slide presentation with Helen, Carrie, and Sally....right Ahmed? :-)

Keight, so glad you got to see our Watson....don't you think he looked "very hollywood"? :-) Everyone should take a look....very nice guy!

Clive, well it looks like they are doing the retaining wall that I had suggested way back on the blog (check ou May 20 adele) Ahmed, mentioned that the wall will be there and on the other side of the Log Home. It will be tight but I'm sure Ahmed will test it out with his SUV when it is all finished.

Ahmed, I voted for the fence! I think it is the best choice to complete this home, and it will definetly not distract from the overall apprearance, but only add to it. Ahmed one concern that I have is, that I am hoping you will used treated lumber for this fence as it will rot in time and need replacement. So treated lumber is needed...Oh! I was thinking also if you place purple Clamatis perhaps 3 or 4 on the fence, it would match the Clamtis in the empty space by the front porch. (I had suggested that before, just a thought)..This Log Home is unbelievable...Thank you and your crew for such a great job!

Waters Edge is a perfect name, I really like it!

Barbara Turner, you are welcome...thanks for your input.

Mary, To read Carrie's adventure at the open house you need to go to the previous blog. There you will find her sharing all that she saw and who she met.....enjoy!

Susan from OH....you are the best! Thank for putting the link up.

Cabincraver and Erika...where are you? We miss you! Please let us know how you are doing! praying for you.

Happy Blogging Everyone!

Thank You Ahmed for all these nice responses.

Now don't burn yourself out !
I suppose I have watched too much of the antiques road show .Usually the most valued pieces of furniture are those generally signed by the artist or craftsman. You are creating works of art that should really be signed.

In what little spare time I do have I do some paintings. Landscapes, Seascapes, Portraits etc...so I am used to signing things. It truly adds personal value to those who take possession of those items. I have spent much of my working career in Construction amongst other things. And love creating things from wood as well. I would love to send you guys some pics of my works sometime.

I was wondering if perhaps there was some special item that might go under the kitchen garden window? So little ones don't smack their heads on it passing by.

Everything looks specatacular! Thank You so much for such wonderful work.

Carrie,
Thank You so much for taking such thought to share with us your experiences at the open house. It is actually Clive's daughter whos little oak tree might stand in jeoprady. Too bad they can't dig it up and move it. Also I apologize for using Cabincravers name after you. I became rather lost and confused in all the blogs as many as there were, then couldn't remember " YOU " truly deserved this credit ! Thank You for being such a special friend.

Thank You to all those who have shared concern for me and my family. You are all the best !

Well, it looks like the Blues (No Place Like Home) is now ahead of the Warmer Colors. If there is going to be any hope of a warmer color palette, the Expand Your Horizons voters are going to have to switch to Around the World! Please, make the switch! There are more voters who like color, but we're split up with three different options. Join together and we can win over the "Blues!"

Jimmy & Ahmed--
Boys, boys! There's plenty of brownies to go around! No need to fight about it. I make them quite frequently.
Cynthia-- where in Spring City did you used to live? Curiousity killed the cat...
I also hope everybody's Memorial Day Weekend goes well. Some of my friends have family coming in-- and we are all pitching in to 'house' them all. So, between Friday and Wednesday, I'll have a lot of guests sleeping here (and an extra boat at my dock). I don't know if I'll have time to blog or not. If not, I'll have to catch up next week. So, don't worry if you don't hear from me for a few days. (I know you guys worry.)
Now I have to go and start cleaning the house, and changing the bed sheets on the extra beds, etc..., I'll catch up later.

It was so much fun to read about the open house from those of you who were there. Thanks for making the day come alive for those of us who were unable to attend!

I, too, was disappointed in the name choices until I read a blog (sorry, can't remember who wrote it) that explained the reasoning. the name is only for the show to describe the cabin, so, DUH, I now get the choices given. It won't be stamped on the house anywhere! LOL

This has been so much fun and I'm assuming the blog will continue even after the voting stops? Are pictures going to be posted from the open house?

Posted by: Lacey at May 21, 2008 10:55 AM

Ahmed, sorry, but I didn't read all of the earlier blogs about the raised bed until just now.

You are talking about a ground level bed, just enclosed (more leftover logs, or railroad ties, perhaps?) to raise and protect the soil and planting material, right? I got the feeling from an earlier comment that someone thought you were talking about window boxes, ie., something where you could "garden" from the deck or even from an open window.

Please clarify? Thanks.

Posted by: Tingoat at May 21, 2008 11:01 AM

I've been working too much at the Garden Center...I hope Erika and Cabincraver are doing ok. I'll have to find some time to read through the backlog of blogs.

I agree on the bookcases vs table...tables are lovely, but bookcases are NECESSARY. Cabin is looking good!

It is about all over and I am beginning to be addicted to the Blog. I've just got to satisfy the desires of a proud grandpa: on 05/20/2008, Baylie Lane Bass was brought into this world at 1:42A.M. @ 18.5 inches and 6lbs. 6 ounces.; just the prettiest little thing you can imagine! With that said, I'll get on with the cabin(that's what we're here to talk about). I just looked at the proposed "as built" drawings and realized that with completion anywhere near to the drawings, would answer some of the questions being posted. It appears that a considerable amount of filling of the front yard may be considered within a few feet of the front porch and the front of the left side porch. That would accomodate some of the questions re steps, landscaping and . . . access (at least to the porches and the main floor). Nothing will be perfect, but it could be part of the answer. Disabled or not, most people would likely spend 99% of their time on the porch area and the area of the main floor. I'm not just speculating. I live in a 2-story house and hardly ever go upstairs. Also, I have lost the use of a leg and same side arm. I have good access to the main floor and really have no need to go to other levels. Like someone else said, "access needs are a personal matter and designing access to accomodate the universe of physically impaired people is not feasible or practical. But a ramp or some kind of access to entrances should be expected! I got off on access and probably should have left it alone. My intent was to make note of the drawings posted as the proposed or possible design for final completion. I like the drive across the front with walk to front door and circling back to garage doors.

Posted by: Jimmy at May 21, 2008 12:23 PM

I'm hoping "Waters Edge" wins the name not "Serenity Shores". I know I will upset some but that name sounds like it's from some old romantic novel like the "Grey Havens' in 'The Lord of the Rings'. Someone also said "Serenity Shores" sounded like a cemetery - which it does.

The fence is OK but I don't like fences so I would prefer the trellis which will add some much needed vertical aesthetics to the cabin. Maybe Ahmed can do something with a living trellis either side of the main entrance. That area looks so empty.

Why do people vote for the pastel colors again? If they win, and I hope not, please DIY make them as bold as possible and no cold blues. That's a really uninviting color for a great room.

Hi all! I just got my Wednesday edition of The Herald News from Dayton, TN. It has an article in it about the blog home and the open house. It has a much better view of the front of the house than the cam does too. I'm not very computer literate, so I'll just tell you how I found it online. I searched The Herald News from Dayton, Tn, then went down the Thenewspaperboy.com and clicked on that-- just click on the DIY article, and you have it. If anyone knows how to put the site right on her to click on-- feel free!

Would anybody here object? If it were my home, I would welcome them all with open arms! Mi Casa Su Casa gang!!!
Grab a boat, ice down the refreshments, bait those hooks and slap on the sunscreen!!! You all deserve it!!!
Feedback anyone?? C'mon Ahmed, grill out, put your feet up, clean some fresh fish??? What say??

I would have to agree with all I have read so far, No fence.. I would also have to leave the trellis and the raised beds out to. From the Pic’s on the site the natural beauty for the site you chose complements the cabin, adding more may crowd the look you all are going for.

Hi Warren!

I am responding to your post of May 19th. I went back to see if one of my recycled posts had left out the detached garage information. I did not find one, but do apologize if you happened upon one I missed. Below is the garage info. I have also added some observations about the build and a theory I am calling the ‘ripple effect’.

First off: Detached Garages ARE permitted in Lakefront Estates, if the ‘written approval by the Architectural Control Committee’ is obtained prior to the start of construction. The way the Covenants and Restrictions are written, it would seem that almost everything done within the community will be submitted to the A.C.C. for their written approval, prior to the start of work.

Most likely, it was discovered that the building area on Lot 5, when compared with the proposed footprint (home, breezeway, detached garage structure) proved to be incompatible. When the requirement for the garage doors was also taken into consideration, it seems that DIY and Barna Log Homes were faced with either the decision to scrap the San Jacinto Plan and open up the voting again, or stick with the plan chosen by the voters and make (major) modifications to the blueprints. (PLUNK....and with that, the ripple effect begins)

While it is true that the voting results indicated that the two-story home floor plan was the overwhelming choice of the voters, the San Jacinto has undergone some major ‘growing pains’ as it develops into the big, beautiful log home we all know it will become one day. And, yes, there was a rather long (for Bloggers) period of time before a representative for Barna Log Homes came forward and announced that modifications to the floor plan were needed. Because the San Jacinto as planned, with a detached garage connected to the main house by a breezeway would not fit on Lot 5, those changes were inevitable

Since (at least) a two-car garage is mandatory in the community, and all garage doors must be located at the side or rear of the dwelling, placement of the garage came into play. The option chosen was to add a basement and place the garage below the house. But, this created other matters that needed to be addressed, namely the load-bearing capabilities of the various areas of the plan. (ripple)

A Barna Log Home Representative stated that due to load-bearing considerations, the garage could Not be constructed beneath the kitchen/mud room/dining room side of the cabin and would be placed beneath the Master Bedroom. The deck area off the Master Bedroom was modified, a fireplace was moved, and access into the home became more of a challenge. (We all know that Ahmed is talking with Ted and working to improve access into the home. Thanks Ahmed!)

(Ripple, ripple) Anyone who has been following along from the beginning knows that even the modified plans as presented by Darlene (Barna Log Homes) is not what is being built on Lot 5. Easement issues have arisen. The Log package that arrived on site from the Mill did not include the Master Bedroom Window configuration on the south wall as it was presented in Darlene’s Final floor plan discussion. Many helpful comments, with information and sources to improve the ‘new’ design of the home have been submitted. The final inclusions will no doubt be affected by budget and time restraints. The ripples will continue perhaps as long as the big beautiful log cabin is standing. But that is OK! Because....
All in all the build is going remarkably well, taking into consideration the time frame, R & C mandates, the weather, bc ocd episodes (wink), and all the other factors that contribute to this most remarkable project..

And to the DIY ‘on-site’ building team ( breath in, breath out) ... if I haven’t said it lately, thank you for being such good sports and taking whatever is pitched your way, oftentimes because of some bit of the Restrictions and Covenants that I have posted. It is just that sometimes Things do happen that can cause the ‘off-site building team’ to have a case of the Vapors (everybody knows what that means, right?), especially if left to worry over something during a long weekend with no post updates. (hint)

Our 'conversations' sparked by options and suggestions of every fashion, are oft times punctuated by the power of our unbridled passion.

Which, brings me to one other post that I want to comment on....

Please don’t get your panties in a bunch, Kellie!(wink) ..... The entire sentence from my post, as it is contained and written in the Restrictions and Covenants for Lakefront Estate, does not pertain to the wonderful recycle use of trees being considered by Ahmed’s Fence embellishment for the front of the property.

The sentence you cut and pasted to fit your premise actually reads: However, in keeping with the desire of some Owners who may want to have swimming pools or gardens (as applicable), walls and fences will be permitted on a restricted basis that will not detract from the overall appearance. The R & C is addressing the erection of fencing around swimming pools and gardens. (Oh, and if you were actually labeling someone else as neurotic, that wasn't very accurate, either. If you must use a label, please be aware, we are proud to accept the title of the "bc ocd 'off-site' building team family)

Posted by: Keight at May 21, 2008 3:22 PM

Ahmed,
I have been stewing over those support posts for the garage deck in my mind for some time now. As I have been worried about any possibility for hitting one. That is how my mind works. Well, I think I have a solution. Perhaps some black angle iron or L shaped Steel can be decoratively cut then applied to the corners of each post to prevent them from being snapped if bumped into.

As for each side of the porch and under it?...That one is still running thru my mind. Angel Garden? I still think we need add rock around the support posts to that porch . Then perhaps an elegantly curved sitting wall to offset things just a little. And carry some of that to the left deck as well. Big boulders somewhere in all the mix. I was going to mention a water feature but I am afraid of leakage and don't want to haunt Clive with that.

Carrie, thanks for sharing your trip to the cabin with us! I felt like I was there. There is nothing I dislike about this place or space EXCEPT that I've not gotten to see it personally...ha! Have a great one!

Hey guys - Everything is looking soooo good! FYI - I've built a split rail fence...it's easy. Please, please, please vote for the raised bed garden! With all the restrictions imposed by the association, this may be the only chance to get one that meets inspection. Just think of the great veggies to go with your fresh "catch of the day." Happy bloggin'!

The cabin is just gorgeous. Can't wait to see it finished and what the inside will look like. Though I hope the front steps are temporary and you plan on putting wide steps up the front like the 3D image instead of two sets on the sides. The set up now makes it more difficult for people with more limited mobility to climb.

Whoever wins it will be incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful and well-designed and built home! Kudos to the DIY crew!

I'm having withdrawal symptoms. Can't believe we're at the end of voting. This is my good bye blog. First, I don't really like the name choices. Just so you know ahead of time, if I win I am going to rename it Ten I See Home. Thanks Headin South for the kind words.
Second, I'm not thrilled with the front entrance. That said, overall I have to say the cabin has so many wonderful elements. The porch is incredible. Probably my favorite.
I am torn between voting for the fence or the vegetable garden. I'm leaning toward the fence for one reason, it may prevent cars from driving down the hill accidently.
Thanks all of you for the many delightful blogs. We are our own little community aren't we? I have loved reading all of your comments and suggestions. I've learned alot too. What a wealth of information!!! I am going to miss Carrie Miracle, Helen, BlognBob, Clive, Susan in Ohio, CabinCraver & Erika, Kreight, A Muse, and forgive me for not mentioning everyone. I suppose it was inevitable that some fool would try to inject a piece of political nonsense into this blog.

Ahmed, Watson or whoever is checking these blogs, please keep this sort of thing off the blog. People of all political persuasions have been blogging, happily, about the cabin not the merits of any political party. It's unwarranted and unwelcome here. Keep your politics to the appropriate setting and give us a rest from it here please.

I love the cabin (more so "log home") and know that it will be wonderful for whomever wins.

Even though the voting will stop soon I hope the blog will continue as I don't blog often but enjoy hearing what everyone has to say and what is going on in their lives. Please keep the stories coming. Also hope for updates as the time draws nearer for entering for this wonderful home.

DIY crew you have done an amazing job and are to be applauded for it.

Prayers will continue for CabinCraver and all others with health issues and other unpleasent events occuring in their lives.

Prayers continue and good luck to all!

I want to express my opinion about the split rail fence. I know that it is a fantastic idea, because we put one up about three years ago. It curves slighly into the driveway. It has vines, wildflowers, and roses planted under it. It makes me feel like someone is beckoning me to come in. I love it. As for the bookcase and the cherry bed table, I voted for the table. I listen to a lot of books on tape, and would find the bookcase useful, but know from experience that they are just places for clutter. (speaking of my situation only). It seems like if I need to put another book or mag on it, I just squeeze it in anywhere I can get it. I also do not like any of the names except Waters Edge. When I tried to vote tonight, the page showed error, then it told me I could only vote once per day. I didn't even get a chance. I will be watching and waiting for this contest to start. I am ready, and I feel lucky.

Hello Bloggers!

I see that the fence is leading in the vote, I love it, but I still love the elevated garden boxes more. Someone seems to think that just anybody can add those if they win. They just don't know how wrong they are!! So, much as I love the fence...I'm voting for the elevated garden!

I've been voting for Fork in the Road...I love the blue, green, reds, and gold in that palette, however, as the that palid pastel palette is again starting to draw ahead I'm going to switch to the Around the World palette. I WANT COLOR!!!!

I heard that a Democrat asks Why? A Republican asks Why Not? And so we have soaring gas prices...the Democrats ask "Why?"...the Republicans..."Why Not? We own the oil company." (I refer to this as the Bush Retirement Plan.)

Hey Carrie, I'm so happy they got the blue washer & dryer combo. That's my favorite too!

Ahmed, I love clematis growing on a fence, might there be a mailbox integrated into the fence or will it be too far back from the road? Is it too shady for some old fashioned roses? The one's that have that wonderful rose fragrance. :)

Posted by: Becky at May 22, 2008 1:27 AM

Please don't let pastels win for the great room also. I'm not a pastel basher. My favorite colors are pink and white but they have a place. Not in the great room please!

Well all hopes for a handicap friendly environment have been squashed with that front entry stairs. I have been away, for a while and saw new options along with the previous choices. I have to say I hate the stairs in the front. Even I would have a problem climbing them. The grade on the higher side could have been raised so that a ramp could have been placed on one side at least. I may be only one voice here, but I do remember many other bloggers making issue with handicap accessibility. This just makes it final. I am disillusioned....

Thanks, for listening....

Oh yeah! No fence please.........

Take a few deep breaths, try to let out your anger then check the blog Ahmed posted on April 15th. He says that the DIY people are going to build an access ramp to the left side of the wraparound deck probably at the front where the little tree is growing presently. Also, someone asked the Barna people about this at the open house and I believe the Barna builders can retro-fit ramps and other disabled-friendly access to these log homes very easliy if the winner should need this. All is definitely not lost.

Posted by: Warren at May 22, 2008 11:33 AM

I voted for the raised garden bed. How wonderful it would be to walk out and pick fresh vegetables from the garden. The fence just seems so useless and does nothing esthetically for me.

And come on people...let's vote for some bold colors! We need to liven things up at the Waters edge!

Posted by: Tammy at May 22, 2008 11:39 AM

I'm not sure what the living trellis design is. Is it basically a trellis with many plants growing up it? I think "Living Wall" would be more aptly put, rather than trellis. Will there be soil on/in the trellis itself? I think by using chicken wire you could load soil and moss into the entire length of the trellis, and run a water hose system along the top for irrigation. That would make a living wall, and you could plant succulents and other plants on the trellis/wall, as well as have vines grow up it.

Well, let try this again.....

Saw the photo of our Log Home in the Dayton Herald-News..great photo, it really gives a better perspective on the Log Home. The driveway will be a tight swing to get any SUV in, and the gully is a natural water runoff where the retaining wall will built. Retaining walls built over or close to natural water run off will certainly be a future upkeep expense. Retaining walls do not last forever, let alone being close to where water runoff will be moving.

Keight, so glad you enjoy the interview of Watson...Doesn't he look very "Hollywoodish" LOL

I voted for the fence...it is the best choice in my eyes, and I do not think that it will distract from the overall appearance of the Log Home, but will only complete it .....making a nice 'inviting' statement. The only concern is that I hope Ahmed will be using treated lumber for the fence. Otherwise, another cost in several years to come, after the fence rots out..Unless they use treated lumber.

Ahmed, I think 2-3 Clamatis growing and weaving itself on the fence would be nice.

Barbara Turner, you are welcome,, :-)

Water's Edge is a beautiful name for this Log Home.

Susan from Ohio, Thanks for the link to Watson's interview....you're the best.

Keight, Again, thanks for all the good information that you provide for all of us bloggers.

Misty and Rich, Thanks for the warm welcome! I have to say that like others here I was not impressed with the names we had to pick from. I picked the one I liked the best out of what we had to pick from.

Great Cabin-Cam shot today. Gutters going on and lots of activity by the lake to the left. What are they up to? Some activity on the side porch to the left also. It could be the gutters and it could be prep for stairs or a ramp. Plenty to speculate about, such fun!! FYI although it would be a shame to loose the little tree we are OK with it being sacrificed for better access to the side deck. DIY can always plant another tree, something hardy and indigenous to the area, possibly with good blossoms to brighten the springtime. That would be great. Our daughter, who is especially interested in that tree, told me she didn't mind as she has several trees that were planted for her when she came into our lives and "we can always plant another".

The rail isn't my choice but way back I did blog Ahmed asking him to please do something with the logs from the trees that were felled to accommodate the house so I can't complain no can I? My thoughts were for the trellis either side of the main entrance. Maybe something simple like that or just a trailing vine would help. Some pots or planters on the support columns with bromeliads would look good too (just my opinion).

I do hope the brighter, richer colors of ‘Around the World’ win but they’re trailing the pastels presently. I’ll keep voting for them anyway.

Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and let’s hope the weather is spectacular wherever you live and, if possible, save a little time for reflecting on what this holiday means. As a Brit I’m eternally grateful for the sacrifices Americans made to help my country in the past. Our ‘Remembrance Day’ is Nov 11th when we wear our poppies. Any of you who have been able to stand in those French and Belgian fields and look at the lines of white crosses, Moslem headstones and the memorials to the Sikhs and other religions that stretch into the distance will know why we should never forget.

Blog on!

You know, I have to chuckle to myself . Thinking at how differently others view the way I describe things compared to what I may have been actually thinking at the time.
When I was describing carrying my wife home the other day, I think perhaps some of the ladies may have thought of this as some noble gesture on my behalf. While in reality what I was thinking to myself was; Gosh, I wonder how many of the people at church are going to think ,he just slung his wife over my shoulder ,and carried her out like quarry after a hunt. Well, I do tell her she is my trophy wife. In a the nicest way of course.

Thank You Susan from OH.
for the link to see our ever extraordinary Mr. Watson. You were looking rather dapper there in your suit Mr. Watson. Good go put a "complete" face to the name at last.

Hello Fellow Bloggers

Helen thank you so much for pointing us to the Dayton News and the DIY Log Home picture. I does look soooooo much better than the cabin cam pics.

I can not believe the voting is almost over. If we don't have the blog to go to each day our cabin OCD will go out of control. (I think mind is already!)

I have loved every minute, every blog and without this there will be a big part of my day lost.

Even with spring and every thing I love doing out side and in my flower beds I have to take a break and come in to check on the Log Home!

I like many others do not care for the names nor know how they came up with them. The names we have to vote on I have to say Waters Edge gets my vote.

Thanks to every one at DIY for giving me this opportunity and added enjoyment in my day to day life!

Could the material for the driveway surface be extended about six feet past the corner of the garage and into the backyard area? It does not appear that there will be room to add much back-up surface along the side lot line, and if a retaining wall is to be installed, navigating the garage entrances will be tricky. With the extension, a person would pull onto the driveway from the street level, drive down the hill and slightly past the garage doors and then, back the vehicle into the garage.

Since the lot line is set, and there are easement concerns, adding extra driveway material that extends past the garages could be the best solution to address the tight fit and possible exit problems for the vehicles in the garage.

The winner/owner would find this extra driveway area allows cars to be backed into the garage and pulled onto the driveway ‘hood first’, which should lessen the ‘swing ratio’ required for most vehicles. Missing the support posts may still require some practice, and re-enforcing them as BlognBob suggests seems like a very good idea. Some extra stain or paint left for the Home Owner would not hurt, either. (Wink)

Heading South: Yep...very!! Do you think if Watson didn't work for DIY, he could probably get a job with the FBI or CIA, what with all his 'looks'! His bag of tricks and quick wit would be quite useful in so many jobs. (smile)
Oh,and....Always happy to know the information I post is of value! I always find your posts to be 'must reads', too! Thanks for sharing so much good info. and 'words of wisdom' with us in each and every post.

Jenny: Thanks! And, please, don't go yet!!! Just because the voting may be drawing to a close, keep posting with your ideas. You just Never know when one of your ideas or thoughts will catch the eye of Watson or Ahmed or someone else who is a among the 'powers that be' at DIY. We need you to keep reading and offering your thoughts! Like Ahmed said ..... "It ain't over yet!" .....

Hi everyone
I'm glad you enjoyed our adventures at the blog cabin and I was happy to write the experience for you all. I'd do it again and again. It was just the biggest thrill to see and touch it! I'm pretty hands on as you can tell! I love seeing piles of things turned into something else. Like junk into treasures, or logs, wood, nails into a house.. Because I truly wanted you all to be there and I felt like this was one way you could be there too! I unfortuanately, am not very good with a camera & I didn't think to take but just a few pics. And they were not very good. I was so excited I didn't do too well in the photo dept. I kept forgetting about the camera and I just went nuts I felt like a kid in a toy store. I wish I had stopped and focused on getting more pics, and I wish I would've found out all the secrets to sneak in a detail or two to you all but the truth is. There was too much going on in the blog cabin basement to truly figure out what was going on and then they were in there filming ( or having a good time hiding from me & etc. ) and I wasn't allowed in there! :( But they were working I did occasionally see the camera man or helpers moving around. Someone run in or out! It was exciting! I'll try to figure out a way to get them online, maybe my husband can download it somehow. I am not very good electronicly when it comes to computer or working a camera. I am willing to learn how though.

Blognbob it's ok that you thought of Cabincraver as a name too! She is a special lady and deserves such a compliment, no matter who thought of it first or last, It doesn't matter to me that you also thought of it. I too felt she deserved the compliment of the cabin named for her. She loves the blog cabin and is going through a tough time and I wanted that name as a surprise for her too!
And this is strange I couldn't remember to focus and take a million pics, but I did remember to stop and look at clives daughters favorite tree from that porch and yes it does have a big cut at the bottom. A few feet from the ground, So yes, I do think it will compromise it's health just like Ahmed said.

Thanks pockets and etc. for the links to the news articles. That was a pretty picture of the home and that was the view I was trying to describe about the little 2 ft hilly hike up to the porch, that is where some stone steps would be so beautiful, along with the (stone?) retaining walls, in my opinion. Them tiered, and different leveled, slightly different shaped beds, rocked in the cubbies beside the porch maybe a little water fall in the top section trickling down into a little pond intermingled with animal proof plantings native to the land. It's a very tall porch even with its diffrent levels. It would give more of a visual focus away from and to the porch and open up the view around it and the house would have a more complete balance around the porch and those big tall cubbies to either side of the porch. I don't know and would really like to know if there is going to be any more backfill around the front porch and the side porch. It really is a nice porch, not very big for sitting on, but would be a great welcoming one for guests or quick visits at the door, when you are right there or in a hurry. From the Cam which is nearly halfway down the yard the porch has a big wide angle on it and makes the whole thing look so much different than in person.

Ahmed and Jason,
You boys are still fighting over Helen's brownies, Well, I don't blame you! I had a couple and I'm still craving them. So I know the feeling boys about wanting more than your share. You guys are lucky though she's across the street from you and I'm 3 1/2 hours away from all of you and the bblh, Those brownies are yummy, send me that recipe Helen. (PLEASE) family wants more! I can't find the last blog where you posted it. Helen sounds like you and your friends have fun weekend plans. Be safe!

Friends
Be praying safe travels for my daughter and her school, they will be leaving tomorrow, and it's her first big road school trip alone, with her school, all the way to Missouri~ without me~ (boo hoo!) That big jump in diesel, knocked us out this time and the fact we have to replace that stupid heat pump (it finally died). The girls will be defending their national volleyball championship title for this year! At the ISC there! She also entered into woodworking, she (with a little help from dad) built a beautiful hope chest, Cherry, maple panels and walnut wood with a checker board inlaid in the lid and it won first place in state with it ( I wanted to post it on the project page ) but couldn't figure it out! and her puppet skit, and embroidery (first year projects ~ placed 1st also) I'm so proud of her and all the others as well and some group participation such as volleyball, & Bells. They all have alot different projects to do! She placed 2nd in photography. I got to go to the state convention back in March in Bowling Green, so I won't miss out on the performances but I will miss out on being with them enjoying their funny personalities and sweet friendships and that drives this momma sad! They are a great bunch of christian kids. And I love them all like my own. This national convention is 10x bigger than the state conventions they went to. So there will be more competition for them to experience. I know they will do well. I just wanted to be with them and will miss my baby! I don't like snipping at the apron string. It's getting too short!

Jimmy ~~~ congrats grandpa! many blessings for you and the lucky grand baby

Jenny ~~xoxoxo's I'll miss you and everybody too!

I don't know what kind of hobby I will have now!My daughter tells me I have no life, she wants the computer now! When they finally shut the blog down one day too soon for me.. This is & has been a very fun and creative adventure for me mentally, virtually and in reality. I think I could really get used to this as a full time job! Blog cabin this just has to be the best job, the hardest job, but rewarding, helping alot of people get work and that this project, is for the viewers (where my and all their) opinions matters and then a majority of winning votes to design a house to be built by master carpenters like Chris and Simon and all the Sponsors like Rustic, Barna, Lakefront (other future partners) and then there are all the other sponsors in between like the material providers and maybe some home furnishings and appliances and the Diy hosts Ahmed etc and helpers, special projects by all the other creative diy hosts and interns. Camera, sound, web and tv workers and the financiers. The cleaning and grounds crew! Especially the bloggers and Watson And etc. That all graciously work together & sometimes schedules conflict, but still everyone combined their love of making something beautiful and then giving it away to a blessed winner, It's fun and all I had to do was think and dream! Wow this is a good time! I'm gonna miss our big beautiful blog home blog site, when it's over! I just wish you had the next one back to back and let me help work on it in person this time instead of on the net. I just want to say thank you to all of you for blog cabin, it's my favorite time of the day besides being with my kids and sometimes my hubby.(he heee!) Yee Haw!

Misty, Yes, even Seminoles, Bulldogs, Tigers, and Buckeyes are welcome at my "Cabin". I count them all as friends. rcmc, I plan to write to you.

Well, its all just about over. This is the first time I have ever participated in a blog or a chat room. It has been great; sharing ideas, family, personal life events and a lot of other things. My wife keeps asking me why I am spending so much time on the computer, so I'll see you at my Blog Cabin. so long for now. JIMMY(cambuck)

I HAVE A QUESTION ON THE FRONT STEPS. oN THE PICTURE IT LOOKED AS IF THERE WERE ONLY GOING TO BE A COUPLE OF STEPS BUT CABIN CAM NOW SHOWS DIFFERENT?IS THIS STAYING.. OR WILL IT BE LIKE THE PICTURE. i HAVE BEEN WITH THIS FROM THE BEGINNING AND i WILL MISS THE FUN OF VOTING.BUT HOPEFULLY MY NEICES AND I WILL BE LIVING IN IT. IT WOULD BE A BLESSING. I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE FOR OPEN HOUSE, BUT LIVING IN TEXAS MAKES IT A BIT OF A TRIP ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ON DISABILITY AND GET AROUND SLOW.BUT ILL BE THERE WITH BELLS ON IF WE WIN...I LOVE EVERYTHING AND THANKS FOR LETTING ME BE A PART...

I VOTED FOR THE FENCE AND AGREE WITH "AHMED" ONCE THE FENCE IS UP AND FLOWERS ARE PLANTED AROUND IT AND VINES ARE CLIMBING ALL AROUND - UP AND ACROSS THE POST AND RAILS THIS FENCE WILL BE A BUITY TO BEHOLD, LETS NOT GET SO HUNG UP ON SUCH A SMALL TOPIC.
NOW RAISED PLANTING BEDS FOR VEGGIES, I'M ALL FOR THAT, MY WIFE AND I DO THIS TYPE OF GARDENING ALREADY AND NO ONE CAN SAY THEY DON'T LIKE A FRESH PICKED VEGGIE FROM THE GARDEN, NO MATTER WHAT IT IS. FOR US IT HAPPENS TO BE TOMATOES SLICED THICK AND PUT ON TOAST WITH MAYO.
WE JUST HOPE WE ARE THE LUCKY WINNERS SO WE CAN INVITE THE HARD WORKING CREW FOR DINNER

One thing, though...Serenity Shores?? That sounds like a peaceful place to DIE, not to live! I'm voting for Waters Edge.

Hi Bloggers!

I've just been catching up on my reading, Lacey are you sure that the Name isn't going to be stamped on the cabin?? When we vote on the name in each instance a "style" of print is used to illustrate each name so I wouldn't be surprised if the name doen't show up above the front door or maybe carved or burned into a log in the landscape. How about it WATSON? Will the chosen name show up on or around the cabin?

Pockets, thanks for the website link to the Dayton Herald and the artical with picture of the cabin. The link works!

Andrea, when I looked at the pictures of the fireplace I said the same thing... the hearth looks lopsided to me. There is a piece of stone which is thick on one end and thinner on the other and it makes the top layer of stone appear uneven. I am so glad someone else commented on it.

AHMED, is there going to be a irrigation system to water the landscaping? At least a pump from the lake to a outside faucet so lakewater can be used to water the garden?? I live in Jefferson Co., AL....with the severe draught & the fact that our water bill is figured to include sewer charges which is based on water usage (sewer = 3 x water). I have envied folks with wells, ponds, & rivers to draw water from for watering gardens & washing the car. Just a thought. Can I also suggest you include some of those pretty purple daisies (euchinachea???) and some of the decorative grasses (luv watching them sway with the wind). Bet everyone has their favorite posey they would like to suggest. LOL

MORE PICS PLEASE! Update the slide show, pleezzz. :-)

Wow, A lot of things going on this afternoon at the Cabin ! Looks like roofing materials have arrived, and a roof is being put on. Some major lumber is being used. And the film crews appear to be out again.

Carrie,
I have been meaning to ask you, how did the lighting appear to you in the home? And is there something or anything new in the works on the back side? I love you stories and they are never too long.

Uh Oh, politics? I would really like to keep the friends I have. This is clearly a violation to my rights of preserving what little sanity I might still have retained. Please don't unleash the madness.

Posted by: BlognBob at May 22, 2008 11:18 PM

I haven't been here in quite some time, seems things are progressing nicely. I can't say I cared for any of the great room paint choices but anything except the washed out pastels would be OK.

A nice cherrywood table would be nice, as for the bookshelf I would rather see built-ins in this place.

Don't know why folks don't like the idea of a fence, it would set off the house.

I'm shure that whomever wins (or purchases from the winner) this log house (it's far from a cabin) will be delighted with what we've built for them.

If I were to win I hope I'd be able to spend a couple of weeks there before I'd be forced to sell it (I mean really folks, how many of us could even afford the taxes.)

Great job by the build team, someone will enjoy it tremendously.

DIY folks: Please, no more gaited communities, I really have a problem with anyone telling me what I can and can not do to my own property. If I want to put a 40 foot flag pole in my yard to fly a 6' by 10' American Flag complete with spotlights I'm not asking permission from a darn committee, nuff said...

This has been a great process! The cabin is so incredible and I love the names chosen to vote on. I picked Water's Edge BTW. I'm getting my fishing tackle in order as we speak so I'll be ready when I WIN WIN WIN!! Bwa ha haaaaaa! :o)

Posted by: Valerie B. at May 23, 2008 6:50 AM

I agree on the split rail fence. The cabin is in the middle of the woods for goodness sake. This isn't the CITY! As a previous owner of a split rail fence, they look god for a couple of years and then they turn into an eysore and a maintenance issue. The wood rots, splits, breaks off, insect infested, woodpeckers damage it, moss can grow on it if shady/damp.... the list goes on and on. As a matter of fact, we are tearing the split rail fence down that was designed to enhance our beautiful community library, because of the problems it has manifested. PLEASE - do NOT vote for the fence!!

Posted by: Karen at May 23, 2008 8:42 AM

Love EVERYTHING about this project. Have 1 comment about the names. As a retired teacher, I must tell you that the name Water's Edge should have an apostrophe , because the word waters is possessive. Really bugs me when I look at it each day. Right now that name is not winning, but , if it did, it really should be written correctly, don't you think?Sorry to be so picky, but teaching these English skills to LD kids for 28 years has made me very aware . This was one of the HARDEST skills to teach, and one of which most adults are unsure.

Posted by: Donna Bess at May 23, 2008 9:34 AM

After reading all the comments I feel better about the fence. If it is just used at the entrance and not around the whole property it would be nice. I love growing vegetable, so I will still be voting for the raised bed. I love the Blog cabin and I am sure anything they decide will be great!

Posted by: cntblv20 at May 23, 2008 10:24 AM

I just want to know how to enter to win the Blog Cabin. Why isn't there a page on the site explaining how this works? It said something somewhere about winning it, but there isn't a place to enter.

Posted by: Tracy at May 23, 2008 10:44 AM

Hi Fellow Bloggers

I think that all of us need to get behind Waters Edge for the name or it is going to sound like a cemetery!

Please don't let this happen to our Log Home. Come on fellow bloggers.

Just my thoughts, did not mean to come across too strong.

Hello bloggers:

It is a warm and very muggy on the lake in Texas, to muggy to sit outside and drink coffee as usual.

I watched yard crashers last night the one with the outdoor theater. WEhat fun I had watching Ahmed and his lively way and cute smile, something that made me relax and finally get a good night sleep. Now if I could just quit dreaming about him fixing up my yard (grinning and laughing).

To bad I rent my lost I live on bet he could make my area around my vintage trailer looks better than it does. We have our garden surounded by wood rail fences with chicken wire attached keeps the deer out but we cant get this one dang squirrel to stay out.We have to pick the tomatoes before they are fully ripe. I been wanting to plant low growing bushes on the backside of the trailer but can't find deer resistant ones that doesn't need full sun, the backside only gets morning sun because of the cedar trees.

So to get to the point I love anything Ahamed does with landscaping therefore I switch votes between the split rail fence and the elevated garden daily.

I do agree we need color in the great room.

Well time to start my power chair to go outside and water my herbs in flower boxes I can reach.

Love yall keep up the interesting blog.

Mary from Texas

Posted by: Mary at May 23, 2008 12:10 PM

Hello,

Why couldn't the color palettes include some actual use of wood as color? You could stain the wood a nice cherry, tan, light burgundy, instead of ruining it with paint. I thought a cabin was supposed to look rustic, not like an apartment by the Mall! Wood is a good color pallete all on it's own.

Posted by: Wanda at May 23, 2008 12:38 PM

Wow! wow! you boys and girls have been busy, busy, since the open house on the 18th. I know for sure I didn't see sheetrock up in that kitchen and then there are Cabinets up already, on the new slide show, Good job! So were you assembling the cabinets down in the basement while I was quietly nosying around up stairs! I guess all those boxes I saw in there were the cabinets sitting in there possibly and I was running in circles, so fast didn't even notice it. Ha ha! They look good and thanks for those usptair peaks (pics). Those ceilings and wood beams are so pretty! And I see that the fabolous tin roofing is going on today as well from the cabin cam.. So excited and I just can't hide it! :) I really love it!

Hi, Several days I have been trying to vote on the choices of names, etc. I have been able to get to choice of color of the room and then it will not let me vote for the naming of the cabin or the split rail fence or raised flower garden or living fence. Please advise why this is happening. Today I go as far as the choice of split rail fence, etc. and then when I clicked to vote for next item, it would not bring up the next item.

Thanks,
Karen

Posted by: Karen at May 23, 2008 12:53 PM

It looks like the roofing is being completed today. Once that is done and the stain or sealer is applied to the logs it should look great. Hard to believe it can look any better. The landscape work should be starting soon.

I may have missed this but what will be used for the driveway? I still think it needs a circular drive or something for visitors to park at front or top of the hill. Otherwise they will be coming to the basement doors instead of the main entrance. I would hate for visitors to have to climb stairs or the hill to get someone to a door.

I saw where the screen is out. Was that for the french doors or the patio/deck, or both? One can of bug repellent will not last long. the winner could do that for themselves. After all they will be getting a real dream home and not a cabin.

It will be nice to see how the outside stairs will be handled. I suggested sometime ago placing near the garage and under the porch. It would give cover to the stairs when raining and snowing. That would not solve the problem and easy access to the deck from the lakeside. Ahmed I know you have plans but it will be nice to see what you have done or will do. I guess I need to look at the Dayton Herald News photos. They may give a hunt or answer.

Posted by: Frances in Texas at May 23, 2008 1:24 PM

split rail fence I like That fence will be building this decorative fence with the tree logs that were removed for construction. (recycling)
I see the roof is going on. Thats Cool. Like the roof stile. Looks Good. Hope that you find a way to recycling rain water from the roof to help water the yard & garden & lessen the inpack on the lake.... Well cabin looking good...

Wow, took me all week to catch up on the blogs...sad the voting is coming to an end...what happens next? Does the blog close? Wasn't involved last year so just curious.

Thanks to all for providing an escape from the battle my body wages upon itself. It has been great!

Think "Rich Color" for the "Great Room". Remember (think it was Helen) said the room is not dark but actually had lots of light. Soft colors in the bedroom made sense but a richer palette would compliment the great room. Good idea to switch your vote to the palette with the greater number of votes if you are passionate about the color...

Serenity Shores just is. Water's Edge leaves me flat. (just my opinion...peace and serenity is what I see and feel when I look at the home and the lake shore...cemetaries don't come to mind at all...live my life by the "Serenity Prayer".)

Split Rail is a very rustic/country attribute to this beautiful log home...and also, checked out the new photos and the front steps are more appealing and look much better than what is showing on the cam (see last photo). Still wish there weren't so many steps and some back-filling was done, with that said, the look is kind of growing on me...nice photos

Sad this is all winding down but all good things must end. Isn't that how the saying goes. Looking forward to the show...

Thanks again to all involved!!

So with that said, I continue reading and come across Susan from OH blog....and read that you have now set a new blog website for all of us to keep in touch.. What can I say Susan....YOU ARE THE BEST! :-) God bless you!..you put a smile on my face. Happy Blogging Everyone!....Oh! I almost forgot to share sometimes....I have an announcement to make...(Clive, and BlognBob you will understand, I am sure!)....We have reach record breaking temperatures!...are you ready...ok....it is 60 DEGREES today! Hi Guys, Love seeing some new inside shots Watson!
Thank You !

Will any of the double doors be double opening? I guess I had different ideas about French Doors. Just my own wishful thinking suppose. Though I initially thought the descriptive doors on the 3D renderings appeared a bit more elegant with the lattices, I can deal without the lattices after seeing that they do match the overhead windows better.

Did we get a pot filler above the stove area?

I do like how the pavers came out. Kudos to the person who did this work ! And it is very nice to see some exterior outlets too. Thank You for that!

You know, the spaces on either side of the main entrance shouldn't need all too much after seeing them from some different angles.

Thank You again Carrie for being such a good friend and taking of your time to fill us all in.

Wait a minute, I remembered I did see sheetrock! Just in the left side of the kitchen there, I was blinded from the excitement I guess!

About the LIGHTING, I don't recall seeing any lighting fixtures up when I was there: but the main floor did seem bright enough, for me, just from the sun shining in and mind you it had rained for much of the day! I'm not sure how bright it will be once the bedroom walls get walled in upstairs. But I do remember standing in front of the fireplace, facing the front door, (pinching myself) & looking up, into the wood ceilings, toward the center loft area (possible balcony I assume) looking at the open center peak above the front door, upstairs & the light was beaming in beautifully from the living room. It is such a beautiful home, If I ever get the chance to build I hope Barna will give me a great deal.. It's an awesome beautiful home. The only complaint I had is that the master bedroom did seem small but hey with this place there is alot to do with lake life, porch sitting and I'm sure the company will always be there for the winner. Really who needs to sleep long there! I think a king bed would fit in there but it would be tight and it would most likely have to block the single door access to the master/garage porch. But hey the double french doors are just a few steps over.

You tomato talker, you have my mouth watering for a fresh tomato sandwich, (dash of salt) with vidalia onion and mayo with a slice of cheese. (please)
Or a blt, yummy! Or green fried tomatoes. OOOH yeah!

Blognbob, tell the truth now, you know I could write/talk your head off... I'm long winded @ times...
I'm so excited (about blog cabin) and I just can't hide it!

About the color and the name this is how I see it

I want to go "around the world" to end up at "water's edge" to place my sovernoirs and the personalities of my blogging buddies, in a glass door enclosed tulip popular bookcase and look up to my (treasures)blogging friends, and see the beautiful bounty of their wisdom and choices voted in, I'd like to see beautiful plants to grow up the suggested split rail fence as we bloggers come from around the world to wave at the new owners from the front porch of our beloved bblh or get a glimpse of the good life from the waters edge of Watts bar!

Posted by: Carrie Miracle at May 23, 2008 3:05 PM

OMG why did you allow us to vote for the color of the great room after the master bedroom fiasco? Come on you guys, it is a freakin cabin, why in the heck do you want pastel colors in it?
Why in the heck are you so afraid of color? It wont hurt a bit, bring a little of the beautiful colors of nature inside your home, I am all for Around The World, lots of amazing colors.
Just because a color looks bright does not mean that color will be used on the walls, it could be used as an accent pillow or something.
Please you won the master bedroom, let us have a little color in the great room.
For the life of me I do not understand why they would want you to vote on the colors again after the baaaaad pick in the bedroom.
Please for the sake of those of us who are not afraid of color, vote for Around The World so we can at least have one room with a little life in it.
Also, you could always make us happy by taking it off the voting all together.
My wish is that you would have never made color a choice, because when people see a little color after the fact they love it. I know you would have never picked pastels, Watson or Ahmad.
I will ask the both of you which colors choices you would have gone with in the bedroom and great room?
Let me know, I am sure that you are no strangers to color and that your choice would not have been pastels for a lakeside cabin, I am just so darn disappointed. HELP TAKE THE COLOR CHOICES OFF, BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!
Let me know your answer Watson and Ahmad, I am interested to know your opinions.
Thanks for the beautiful cabin and the chance to vote each day! I love it, thanks too for the cabin cam, I look each and every day.
My best to you all, God Bless.

Ahmed, I just took a look at the new slide presentation photos, and I only have one thing to say about this Log Home...............

******ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!********

Posted by: Heading South at May 23, 2008 3:53 PM

I also forgot to mention, please do not fence the cabin off from the rest of the world! What the heck is going on with the voters?
A raised vegetable bed is the green way to go, you can use your kitchen scraps for the compost and enjoy your own vegetables and save at the grocery store. What is better than that? A fence? I think not!!!
I would really love to know the average age of the people voting, my guess is that the majority are over 60 by the voting.
No fun water toy for children, the pastel paint color in the bedroom yuk!!! The fence around the front of the property blocks the view of the beautiful cabin and shuts the cabin off from natural views.
I want to hear my grandchildren's squeals of delight as they play in the water, I want a room full of color, and I don't want a home that is fenced off from the rest of the world.
Please consider long and hard before you make this cabin more like a mother-in-law house.
I would love the vegetable garden and I hope those of you who voted for the fence will reconsider. Thanks and God Bless.

Serenity Shores? lol. Really?
Sound like a nursing home. Sorry.
All the names sound odd, like the names given to graveyards or country comedy skits from the early 1970s. That beautiful blog home deserved much better names that those choose.

Posted by: John at May 23, 2008 4:06 PM

I would also like to know how to enter. I have been following along and voting but didn't know how to enter. The last one was wonderful also!

Posted by: Loretta at May 23, 2008 4:12 PM

Sure am hoping that they do not put anything with those names permanently attached to the home.
I am surprised that the Association does not prohibit that... personal choice for the winner.. still hope that the logs go to good use like a glider or swing!!!
Why go to all that work of working the wood, then letting it lie on the ground?
Even making a seat to gird one of the trees, like those round ones made out of wrought iron?? Only use the recycled wood? Consistant with the decade and decor of the home.. even a dozen birdhouses... let the homeowner paint them with leftover paint,,, then sealant..?? just a suggestion,,
you guys are artists,,, get those creative juices flowing!!

I was just wondering, since I havent been keeping up with the blog cabin on this round, (loved the last one in the woods), but, since the cabin is on the lake, has anyone thought of putting in a generator in case of an emergency? Rural areas often lose power and with modern conviniences, it would be practical.

How about a boat house, or dock? A flagstone walkway down to the lake? An egress to and from the lake for a boat from the cabin, if no dock is made?

Just some ideas as it seems that the cabin is winding down and I dont know if anyone has addressed these issues or not, (as I am NOT going to go through hundreds upon hundreds of posts to find out!).

I wish you well...

Jesse

A big THANK YOU to all our Veterans, those who served in the past and those serving for us now! Please remember the meaning behind Memorial Day, ask your children or grandchildren what it means to them and if they don't know, please take the time to explain it. Everyone, stay safe and enjoy your company, camping, or whatever you plan on doing this weekend, we're busy with family and their pets visiting from out of state so I'll be back after it settles down here again.

Helen - you are the Betty Crocker of this BBLH and I'll be awaiting your pic of Brandon when your busy weekend is over. Have fun.

Carrie - I think you & BlognBob are both terrific for thinking of Cabincraver as a name, sorry if I gave credit to the wrong person, it's just great that you both pushed so hard for it. What is it they say - "great minds think alike". I hope Christen does great at her volleyball championship and has a safe trip, please send me photos of her work, she sounds very talented. Your ideas of what to do with the little tree were great too, maybe someone will build something out of the wood and show it on the show when it's televised. Hint, hint.

BlognBob - you never cease to amaze me, now I read your an artist, woodcarver and a man of many more talents. I'd like to see your work too, everyone here is so talented from knowledge facts, to story tellers, to who knows what. Everyone is so much fun, I'm really hoping some of you keep in touch with us. Hope Jerri is doing much better too, I chuckled at what you thought of yourself carrying her, how funny.

Susan from Ohio - thanks for the blog post, great idea for all of us.

To All - Helen, Carrie, Heading South, BlognBob, Keight, Clive, Erin, Sally, Susan from Ohio, Dana, Jenn, Becky, Barbara Turner, Betty, Jimmy, Mary from Texas and everyone who's blog I have thoroughly enjoyed - a big Thank You !! Please forgive me if I omitted your name, you are still wonderful too, the list is just too long to include everyone. I really hope we get an email from anyone so be sure to copy our email address before this blog closes until the next time. You can write to us at:

rcmc02@embarqmail.com
(cut & paste or copy).

Watson, Ahmed, and the entire crew involved we thank y'all for making so many dreams come true. Even if we don't win this have been fun, we've made friends and we helped design this beautiful home, how lucky can we be? Enjoy your weekend off with your families and we'll see ya when the holiday is over and next years blog (we're hoping there will be another dream log home #3). Personally I think you should buy a nice peaceful lakeside area that would have at least 50 lots of a few acres each and each year add a home (or 2)to it so when any bloggers win we'll have all our bloggin buddies winning the other homes each year and we can all be neighbors. Please make it close to Helen so we'll know who's bringing desert to all our parties & barbeques. Maybe have some lots available not too expensive and maybe some can build their own Barna home (I'm sure they'd work with us crazy bloggers). I think it's a great idea and we'll open our home as a sample to show other bloggers and Carrie will sell them (she could sell ice to an Eskimo), Clive could be the Story Teller, BlognBob our artist, Helen would bride them with brownies and on & on, you see what I mean?

To the Barna team - excellent job, we've been in your sample homes before and each one was beautiful but this one is just amazing, pat yourselves on the back from us.

Happy Memorial Day !

Good Luck & Great Health To All !!

Afternoon to all,

Just loved Donna Bess' blog comment about the punctuation in Water's Edge. I've just about given up on punctuation and spelling as email has really knocked both for a loop.

Please, please, please vote for Water's Edge, apostrophe or no apostrophe. It is too bad, but the word "Serenity" does bring different thoughts to mind than the original meaning. You can blame the advertising folks, I guess. If the chosen name is somehow emblazoned on the house, we'll really be up the creek!!

Happy Memorial Day and God bless our service men and women.

Hello Bloggers!

It looks like it's raining up at Lakeside Estates. Did someone say that the metal roofing is going up now? I can't tell my cabin cam is blurry because of rain.

Tracy - There is going to be a contest to give away Waters Edge, but I don't think it starts until August. I think there is something on DIY's main page about it.

Joyce - I was voting for the name Shore Livin' but switched to Waters Edge when it looked like Serenity Cemetary...I mean uh, Shores... was pulling ahead.

Wanda - Wood IS a nice color but there will be plenty of wood coloring with the exterior walls being unpainted logs. The interior walls which will divide the cabin into rooms will be wallboard and will need painting, wallpapering, etc.

Donna - School's Out For Summer....Waters Edge is a play on words I'm sure as the cabin is located at Watt's Bar.

Valerie - Do you watch a lot of Hannah Montana? BWA-HA-HAAAAAAAA! (Does the name Rico ring a bell?)

Clive - A Brit? Mmmmm... You're not by chance a HGTV host??

PAUL - I couldn't tell a lot about those kitchen cabinets....but what I saw is l@@king gooood!

MORE PICS, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEZE! Ahmed. :)

IN HONOR OF OUR COUNTRY,

In respect for my country , for my brothers and sisters who have and do serve this country, For my son, daughter and family who are now serving, and as a rememberance of all that we stand for in this Great Country. I would like to send an American Flag to DIY for this home. Not to be boxed away until some Grand Opening , but in hopes that it might be ever present in the Cabin cam , and for all that pass by to see . And perhaps later to be placed in a display box for the new owners to keep as a rememberance forever.

I don't wish to be selfish and think that only I might feel this way. I am certain I am not the only one. But This home is missing just one very special thing hanging from those front steps. So , anyone who would like to support this cause. Please Feel free to stand up and be counted ! And ask to send in your flag too. If we had a hundred , or even a thousand sent , there could never be enough. This is our chance to Honor our Brothers and Sisters in Arms. And Our Country. This home needs an American Flag to make it complete. It is missing this one most important part of America.

If someone from DIY will kindly email or post the address , I ,and maybe a few others will mail our flags to Ahmed or Watson for this home.

IT IS THAT IMPORTANT!

Wait a minute a fence that's just ludicrous! If you live in the forrest learn the habits of the animals. Please! Just got the vaction guide book in the mail the area is magnificent, Gee's the names were a little redundant.Well, whomever wins will put their signature on that. Love the garden concept, I've built my own raised bed garden clean, simple, and easy the way a vegtable garden should(bee)where have the bees gone? Its a mystery in our state. Everyone have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend, the weathers is going to be in the 80's! finally! I hope it stays for a long time. Love that cabin, its more like a castle. Keep up with thee great work, you all did a fine job, what a crew!! It's time to cut the grass, oh, my dogs going to go neurotic.

QUESTIONS QUESTIONS QUESTIONS
Now back to Blog Home stuff. I have a question, will the blog still be open for us to talk after the voting is done?
Will the chat be open?
Will there be updates in the way of photos and the sort?
Or will everything simply be on hold until the giveaway?
I wasn't in last years blog so I only hope it might remain open like the other HGTV homes did. We want to keep you gainfully employed Watson, unless you have been waiting for a vacaction.

Ahmed,
I was going to ask you a question about keeping morning glory at bay on your Gardening Site I was quite impressed at how integrated that site is.
Watson, It would be cool to hear from you anytime. You have my email address so don't be a stranger. I will be haunting you at next years Blog Cabin too if there is one.

Hi All,

Even though I have only posted my comments a couple of times I have to say that I will definitely miss reading all of your comments. Many were informative and many made me laugh or smile. I am not sure what I am going to do once I can not get my daily dose of the "cabin". :-( I hope that one of us deserving Bloggers wins this unbelievable log home. It is so perfect! Thanks to all the contractors who put their heart and souls in to creating this masterpiece.

Hi all! I figured I'd give a quick hello while all of my house guests are at the wedding they came from all over for. It is an extremely busy weekend here! I have house guests coming out of my ears. I know my friend appreciates it, as she keeps telling me she loves me. LOLOL Thankfully, it is a beautiful weekend here in Spring City-- sunny and in the 80's all weekend.
