This is it! We're down to the final challenge, and what a challenge it is!
It's certainly something outside any designer's comfort zone: glass houses in Bryant Park, in the middle of New York City. (They tell me it rained quite a bit, but since I'm British, I didn't really notice.)

David and Alice are both talented designers, but I think when the challenge was revealed, they both had a classic case of the artist's dilemma: too many choices! The world was their oyster, and that much leeway seemed to almost paralyze them at the beginning.
But they didn't make it this far without talent and the ability to create great rooms, and eventually they locked onto their targets. Throughout the show, I've noticed that David has an unwavering confidence in his own instincts, which has served him well. Alice can seem less sure of herself, but still ends up with a great result each time.
David's choice of an Asian-themed bedroom seemed like a strong one and the judges enjoyed the way the lines complemented the structure of the glass house. During their check-in, their one caveat was that it lacked color, but by the time they did their final walkthrough (complete with impromptu sleepover), I think they decided it wasn't necessary. That's two challenges in a row where David has shown that neutral colors can still create sharp, interesting design. His hosting continues to improve, and he has an obvious spark and passion about his work.

Alice seemed quite shaken after the judges' check-in, as they were critical of her room layout and some of her other choices, like the curtains and the border-like dots. She took their advice to a degree, making a few changes, but it was fairly late in the game to reinvent her space. I think the judges felt she made some good choices, and that the final result was more successful. As usual, her hosting was strong and natural. She certainly has a presence.
I must say, my favorite part of this challenge was the location (in spite of the rain!), in public with everyone watching. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and shared such kind words. I know we are all quite proud to be part of a show that so many people are enjoying.

Now it's time for you to vote and decide our winner. [Editor's Note: The Design Star season 1 winner has already been chosen.]
Starting tonight at 10pm Eastern, vote once a day online and again by texting the letter A for David or the letter B for Alice to 44881. (Texting charges may apply, so please check with your cell phone carrier before doing so.) You may vote once per day per method, up until noon Eastern on Wednesday, September 6. It's now up to you! Join me next week as we announce the winner!

I am not one to watch TV... but this series has had me glued to the tube every Sunday night. Clive has such a quick wit and the individuals chosen to compete had such a diverse and unique chemistry. I look forward to next year (I HOPE they do it again!)oh.. and Vern.. lighten up a bit!.... grin

This show was incredible! I was so afraid that the television public would not pick the true talent -- but they did! David is an incredible designer and I want to use his skills. I'm looking forward to his design show. Congratulations David and congratulations, HGTV.

Caught the final segment. But, missed the comparison between Alice and David. Rest of my family both wanted David to win.

I am glad David won. He really deserves it. His design has been very consistent with creativity. All of his designs were very impressive. Even though there were a lot of emotions involved, he had been very focused. He really stole the show in the last design which he designed a great bedroom in a glass box. Every one would love to lay on that bed, feeling very peaceful. That's the core product of what a great designer should come up with --- viewer wants to live there! That was a real test for both of David and Alice. In my opinion, Alice blew the last one because of limitation of her creativity in comparison to David.

Absolutely loved the show! Of course I was a fan of ALL the design shows but this was quite interesting to see the different design styles and personalities emerging. Loved Alice's personality and her style but David's rooms were so consistently my favorites. His pet store room blew me away. That was a quirky show but some of the rooms were quite inventive considering the materials available. Can't wait till the finale tonight...but guess I have to. Know I won't miss it or the show if it is repeated next season. Thanks for the wonderful entertainment. Wish you could both win.

I have enjoyed some aspects of the program but I hope, if you do it again, you will not focus as much on the drama as you did during this series. I think that's what made Trading Spaces jump the proverbial shark.
While I love the idea of a contest with the winner getting his/her own show, I think far too much focus was placed on the drama, ie: Ramona from that trading spouses reality show, and Donna & Temple's silly cat fights. (How many women cringed at seeing women portrayed in that light?)
I suspect most HGTV viewers watch the programs for the design rather than the drama. There are dozens and dozens of reality programs on tv already. Give us more design and less drama next year.
Also, the guy that was elminated prematurely should be brought back again next season. Joseph? Can't remember his name but he's the one that was eliminated the week that chick with the glasses should have gone.
BTW, congratulations David and Alice.

I voted for david because of his dreamy pecs!

David is my design star whether he wins or not!!! Go DAvid!! You rock!!

I love Alice's personality and talent. David is very good, too. Yes, a show for each of them!

Are you kidding? Dani's post above says "David's obviously trying to win votes by working with his shirt off. While he has a good physique, it's very unprofessional
I totally disagree, I loved him with his shirt off, he looked amazing, lets keep the eye candy coming :)

I absolutely love the show! It was well worth watching once Donna was eliminated. Although the vacuum lady was horrible, Donna should have been the first to go! She completely left the two gentlemen doing the patio area penniless the first day and they had to makeup for lost time due to her poor planning and time management. The only thing Donna was good at was shopping. I, like the judges, never got the feeling of her design style.
Looking forward to next season!
Hey Clivie, love you on Design to Sell:)
Thanks,
Dayna

Sorry I missed the last show. I think that although I believe David had the better design that week, I would chose Alice as Design Star/Host because her designs are more functional and she has the flair to make an audience very comfortable.
Posted by carole – September 9, 2006 11:50 PM
Why can't they both be on a show together? There is such good chemistry between them. Just like Matt and Sherri on Room by Room.

I love David. His final room was wonderful. I hope he wins.

I loved the show - and was anxious to see the new show each week. I am going to miss it on Sunday evenings. Both of the final designers are great. I was disappointed, however, that the judges who were not to judge the final design made such a presence on the final show and made comments. They seemed that they had an obvious choice that thay wanted to win.
Posted by Nancy – September 9, 2006 6:44 PM
I know everyone loves David, but my favorite is Alice. I like how she uses practicality in her designs and doesn't just focus on how good it looks. I think David is a great designer, and his rooms usually turn out nice, but they got predictable after a while. Modern/contemporary artwork, clean lines, only a couple of colors, in like EVERY room!!!!!. I think that Alice dishes out different styles each time and is so comfortable in front of the camera. I didn't like Alice's "mancave" though bc all the furniture was crowded onto the back wall. Over all, I think that David is the better designer, but I would MUCH rather watch a show with Alice. I like her personality better. She is more humble, fun, and bubbly. A sure winner in my mind!!! As for the rest of the contestants, I wish them the best luck but I do think we have the right final two. That's what happens when the judges, NOT America, decides. ;) I hope Designstar continues next season. And alice, I will watch your show!!!!!! You are the BEST!!!

A request for next season: there are lots of us "wannabe" designers who have followed each challenge on the edge of our seats and wonder what we would have done with a similar space. PLEASE, give us the dimensions of the space/s, and floor plans from each episode! I could spend many happy hours putting my own creative touches on those spaces, using the judges' comments, just for the fun of learning.
Thanks for a great show!

With the glass houses, I would have like to have seen a greenhouse/garden room/porch theme done.
Posted by JB – September 9, 2006 11:03 AM
I was already to vote for Alice, but this last episode showed that David is brilliant. I don't know what posessed Alice to do a childs room and then use a white bedspread and those tacky hand drawn pictures. It ruined the look of the room.
Posted by Melody – September 9, 2006 11:02 AM
I really love HGTV, and I've been following the Design Star from the beginning. However, neither of the final 2, looking at the whole contest, seems worthy of their own design show. Those people are right about David, this isn't Porn Star, it's Design Star, and he seemed arrogant as Vanessa. Alice always seems so sweet, but just one step behind. Nothing she did (besides her hosting skills) "wowed" me. Because of this, I ended up not voting at all!
I couldn't choose who was the most worthy, I felt like neither deserved my vote. These people are right, they should allow these 2 to work together and co-host their own show. Alice is a great presenter and can balance out David's zen side, whereas David has that "wow" factor in his imagination. thanks for the show!
Posted by JAH – September 9, 2006 2:24 AM
David and Alice have such chemistry together. I hope whichever one gets their own show has the option of inviting the other one to be a guest on their show or even better a cohost. They compliment and balance each other beautifully. I have really enjoyed watching them progress through the competition because they were both such good sports as well as being talented and attractive. When I first saw the commercials for this new "reality show" called Design Star I rolled my eyes and decided I wouldn't watch. My curiosity and my appreciation of Clive's hosting abilities won me over. I hope the next season is as good if not better.
Posted by Liz – September 8, 2006 11:19 PM
Wow - a hard decision when you look back over all of the shows. However, for the last design challenge, David had a more polished and complete room.
How much more beautiful Alice's room would have been if her bedspreads had been colorful with polka-dots to carry out the theme from the chandelier...and if her artwork and inspirational words had been painted with translucent paints on the glass instead of on white boards and the "not-at-all-attractive headboards. Soft and Puffy, sculptured hot pink and/or lime green headboards would have been SO much better!
I think David will win and he has my vote from this last challenge, but BOTH would be great assets to any show. Possibly the "non-winner" could be a guest-designer for Designer's Challenge or another show....?
Posted by J.J. – September 8, 2006 11:00 PM
I think this is a great show and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have always thought David should be the final one. I do think that if you do it again that it would be great if we could see what it is like for the designer to interact with a client. I wish them all well. The design business can be trying sometime. Thank you for the great entertainment.

David got my votes for his incredible design talent; cannot WAIT to see his show.
And, I agree with everyone else; Alice is adorable and fresh, and HGTV should NOT let her go away. I would love to see her grow and mature with her own show as well, even if only on a consultancy basis.
Glad (DD?) addressed Temple; I totally agree. Temple's behavior was absolutely appalling and unacceptable, and I'm stunned she was allowed to publicly humiliate Donna in that way. In fact, I believe the HGTV audience may have been cheated out of truly fine work because Donna (with 20 years' experience!) really did not have the chance to express herself freely. Temple is not a nice person.
The first reality show I cared about. Overall, good job, HGTV. You're still the channel of choice for me!!

I've watched the final challenge three times, and am still amazed at the wonderful work that David had done. The room he created was warm, inviting and relaxing. It was if you could almost forget that you were in the middle of a park, and lie on this beautiful bed and imagine you were in a moment of solitude. I was enthralled and impressed with all of his designs throughout the show. He is a true professional.
I was a bit disappointed in Alice's design. I expected more from her than that, and her work seemed childish, at best. While I agree with most people that her online presence is astounding, her work does not measure up to that of a "design star".

I only just came in to watch the last two episodes and I love both David and Alice. I think they both have talent.
I also can't vote as I would vote for both of them and also cancel out my vote.
Good luck to both of them!

I am transfixed by this show, like a housewife hooked on soap operas! (neither of which applies to me). I do adore chic design and suspense thrillers – voila, Design Star has the winning combo! Suspense, action, stunning designs from David, so week after week I root for him. His designs are superior to anyone else’s – his vision, style, execution, equate a professional designer, whereas others conjure up pleasant designs of a hobbyist. Should America not vote for him, then it is obvious that people suffer from appalling taste and are in abject need of a dose of divine design !

Loved the shows. David rocks in every way! Just a thought. I live in an older mobile home. Couldn't one of the challenges be to decorate/design a new room for someone who doesn't make $100K+ a year and lives in a mobile home? Now that's a challenge, believe me! Also, in the other shows they have "homework time" and things are done at night. Why these time constraints that include shopping time and getting supplies? Why is are not a carpenter and painter provided for every challenge as in real life and real shows?
And the couple that was promised new cabinets & granite countertops in their $10K makeover - did you give them new cabinets & countertops? Temple's kitchen makeover looked sick and I would have sued HGTV if it had been me.
Why allow all this bickering started by Temple? She should have been told to get along or eliminated immediately. How can a host of a show constantly fight with everyone and not listen to others? How totally unprofessional. I found her constantly playing the "I'm a single mother, tear, tear card" to be quite annoying. She should have been axed when she didn't deliver the kitchen. Maybe Donna would have done better without having to defend herself from attacks from Temple all the time.
That Joseph got a raw deal goes without saying. Vanessa was a total ego trip who never accepted responsibility for what she did but took responsibility for what others did if it was good. Ramona was a nightmare. I usually throw my old vacuum out, not put plaster on it and call it art! The twins were Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum. They couldn't function without the other - like Siamese Twins. Tym had great ideas and used common sense in his time limits but his designs were always half done and lacked something. Especially the walls. With $10K he could have done a much better job for the Katrina survivor. I thought his design for her apartment looked like he shopped for everything at the Salvation Army Store! The Tudor bedroom looked great but still unfinished.
In the end, the two best were picked. David & Alice. However, Alice is a decorator and not so much of a designer. In the "Man-Cave" she could have left the woodwork alone and spent her time designing a room that was more what the woman wanted for her husband, instead of the family room with a leather chair she received. It is David who is the Design Star! David Rocks!
As for the judges, I found them a little condecending at times.
I feel you should have different judges for EACH show and elimination. Then the designers are not trying to please the same three people every week.
Clive, I love, yes love, you and Lisa on Designed To Sell. That Chicago group are horrible. I was going to sign up but when I watched one show knew they were terrible. You have the best in Lisa, Bruce, Steve and yourself along with Donna & Shannon. You should travel around the country like they do in Antiques Roadshow.
Some have said it's terrible David showed so much skin. Well I think he's a hunk and loved it when he took his shirt off. Just wish Clive would have de-shirted himself too! Such a cuddly teddy-bear you are Clive! Just like that sexy Roger in that other show! Can't wait for the next season.

I think the FINAL 4 were the ones who worked well together- they ALL supported each other and seemed to be focused on the people they were there to benefit from their talents.....
Gosh- I wish David and Alice could both share a show.....I honestly could not favor one or the other......they both are super! ( and I think TYM and TEMPLE really enhanced that equation for your last shows....)
Thanks,

I LOVE ALICE! SHE HAS STYLE AND GRACE AND SEEMS TO HAVE A WONDERFUL ON AND OFF SCREEN PERSONALITY. I WOULD WATCH HER SHOW IN AN INSTANT. THE JUDGES CRITICIZED HER CURTAINS BUT ALSO CRITICIZED DAVID'S LACK OF COLOR, WHICH I AGREE WITH. DAVID'S BEST SHOW WAS THE PET STORE ROOM, HE BLEW ME AWAY BUT THEN AFTER THAT HE WAS PREDICTABLE WITH HIS ART, PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITH DIFFERENT COLORS. I VOTE FOR ALICE, BUT DON'T THINK ONE COULD GO WRONG WITH DAVID EITHER, JUST THOUGHT ALICE WAS THE BEST.

I couldn't vote... if I had, I would have had to vote for both and would have cancelled out my votes.
I truly hope HGTV comes up with a way to give both of the two final contestants a show, better yet a show cohosted by them.
It is like comparing apples to oranges, you can't!
I have watched DesignStar since the beginning and many reruns of the shows, then got my daughter hooked on the show, it has been fun all the way thru! I would watch any show that these two end up on!
I hope to see another DesignStar season... it is fun to watch the upcoming designers. But, Clive must continue to host it!
Good luck to David & Alice - you guys are great!

Both aspirants have great talent. However, it's disappointing to see the last of Alice's designs. I, as a designer, do not feel a designer's touch in the room. She's made better choices in previous challenges. I guess the pressure was on. She does have great presence on camera. David, on the other hand, has proven he can take any room and make us feel the design. But, can he work something other then contemporary? Is the design functional or only tasteful? David is at ease in front of the camera; we see it already in his audition tape. Great charisma. Any one of them win, HGTV has already won!

What a ride! I enjoyed the competition so much I hate to see it end! My vote is for Alice although it was very hard to decide after episode 7? If there could be a tie the exectives at HGTV should have them both have a show together like "Alice meets the Madhatter"! Or some reference to Alice in Wonderland...You can see they both enjoy each others company and
their mix of style with always compliment and
keep the viewers interested...Thanks HGTV for good and fun programming..Good Luck guys!

I really think David has won the hearts of America with his very creative and unique talent, pleasant personality , and very superior sense of design . He has improved a lot in his hosting ability and I know he can learn this , but his innate , genius creativity is definitely a big plus . He would really attract droves of viewers to his own show ! I wish him the very best of luck and we hope he wins !
Thanks for the most pleasant show on HGTV - I have never enjoyed a show so much !

Apart from David's great looks, he's a terrific designer. He has consistently shown that he has what it takes and more to be HGTV's star.
David, you and your designs rock ! Awesome job, I got so inspired, i even went and got the stone thing that u did inside and out at the window. Those light fixtures, in a minimalist budget and u created terrific rooms.
Great work ! I thought Vern's the best on HGTV, now you'll be a valualbe addition to the team.

When we got down to the final three, I knew that I was going to be sad no matter who was eliminated. I like Tym, too, but his work seems a little less finished, or polished, than either David's or Alice's.
Alice--what a sweetheart! I would love to have her as a neighbor or friend. Her sense of honesty, integrity, and compassion are admirable. However, there was something about each of her rooms that left me slightly unsatisfied--something missing. Try as hard as I might after the last episode, I couldn't understand Alice's theme (even after she explained it). The room, to me, lacked cohesiveness.
Each week, as the designers' rooms were rated on the website, David's rooms were consistently rated higher than Alice's. The Zen bedroom was his crowning glory! It was absolutely perfect to me. (In fact, I was rather hoping that I could convince HGTV to send me that room when they are finished with it in the park!) I am glad that he did not go with the judges' suggestion to add a splash of color on the bed. That would have ruined the look for me.
David has the advantage of being very versatile. Yes, he is an artist, but he is also a designer, a decorator, a carpenter, a space planner, an organizer, and a very good listener when it comes to what his clients want. I think that his presentation style is rather fun--although Alice's is, too. (No, I am not David's mother, nor do I know him personally, at all!)
I voted for David as often as I could, but good luck to both of them--and to Tym and Joseph (whom I thought got a really raw deal.)
Congratulations on a truly engaging show! I look forward to watching our next design star in action.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. Alice and David were the clear choices for the finalists. I have to say though, Alice certainly disappointed me with the last room. To me it was very ordinary and predictable. I thought for her last challenge they would go all out. The only thing that I saw in Alice's room that "shined" was the chandalier. I feel she should have run with that. Instead everything else was ordinary. Even the bed placement was ordinary and predictable. David becomes more confident on camera each time. His designs are not always my taste but very classy and well thought out. He is also extremely nice eye candy. I have to agree with others the two of them on one show would be wonderful. They are both extremely talented. Her southern charm, his energy, their combined talent would be a top rated show.

Dilemna!?! My gosh - this was a VIEWER'S dilemna. Both Alice and David had their strengths and weaknesses, but this is like trying to decide what to take off the dessert cart. Win or lose, I hope to see both of these talented and personable designers again on television. (Preferably together since they are so complimentary.) Clive - you are such a charming host. I hope will be there to wrangle the next set of designers on the next show!

alice cute but lacking in creativity her designs did not stray far from the originals. which is of course why her last design felled she had nothing to reshape, add to, or change around. david on the other hand has true talent abd could keep a show alive. If america fells to see this lets hope hgtv doesn't. Go david! It takes more than cute to cut it.

I have been bothered for weeks that no one responded to Temple's malicious comment that Donna was "30 years older than me". Donna's age is listed as 49, and Temple's as 29. That's 20 years. Temple should have been eliminated right then for slander.

I find it interesting that the former judges criticized Alice for using curtains but praised David. That pretty much says who they think should win. When they were talking among themselves they asked why she put them there to ruin the view, etc., yet when David used them around the bed and lining the walls they only praised him.

My husband and I have enjoyed watching Design Star together, however my husband doesn't usually watch the reruns. Today, I had him watch again.
My husband is an engineer and is quick to notice things that escape my notice. Alice was told that she should have oriented her beds to take advantage of the fountain view. My husband noted that would have been impossible, due to how HGTV located the glass houses and where the doors were placed. (Interestingly, they did not make the same comment to David, who had his bed oriented in the very same direction.) He also noticed the headboard drawings that Alice gave to Tim. The headboards were not made in accordance with her drawings; the wording was not cut out; he did not use her whimsical lettering sample. It takes an engineer to notice these details! In any event, I feel that Alice has the best all-around talent, and does not limit herself to only one style. David seems to emulate Vern a great deal and he shows little variety in his style, which is nearly always lacking in adequate storage space, if any at all. Alice designs for real life. She is tasteful, practical, and really considers the purpose of the room. She should be the next Design Star! She is also a true lady and would represent HGTV very well!

I have to admit I think David won this round, but I want Alice to win! Her style and personality are great. David has a wonderful style as well, and has obviously worked on his hosting ability. I would like to say to HGTV to please make room for the "runner up" as well as the winner in your programming. I would also like to see Tym on a show. I can kind of see he and Alice together, actually. I think their stregnths would compliment one another, sort of a la Matt and Sherry. Anyway, this has been a wonderful show, and I have watched and re-watched it (unusual for me). Look forward to the next season of Design Star. Thanks

I have watched every episode from the beginning and think they are both completely fabulous in their own unique way! I think that David seems to be the favorite, but I think Alice should not be overlooked because she is so talented and endearing as well. Overall, its really hard to choose.
I LOVE them both and want them to come to my home!
Give them both a show HGTV, you did such a fantastic job with this one!

I think both David and Alice are wonderful designers. I think it is true what has been written about David that the judges did not favor him, but just rewarded his talents with applicable comments on each show. David's talent was evident from the first show. He is an extremely talented artist and has a wonderful personality to go with his talent. I also like Alice. I personally voted for Alice and I will explain why. I think either one of these people would make a perfect host for a show on HGTV. I voted for Alice because I think she, like David, has a wonderful talent is a very gifted designer. But I think Alice is more well rounded. David is fabulous but he uses his personal style when he designs. I would like to see what he would do with a request that was not contemporary or modern. Alice on the other hand, has shown that she is versatile and can cater her designs to her clients desires and requests. I have enjoyed watching Alice on this show and I think she has remained professional, diplomatic and honest. She obviously has intergrity to go along with her talent. What it comes down to with me is that if I had to choose between the two of them - I would choose Alice to do my home and David to do my office. My home has to be a reflection of my personality not my the personality of the designer. I would like David to do my office because I love his work but it is not me, but it is beautiful. So I have voted for Alice but I think both of them are wonderful and either would be an outstanding winner. Great job David and Alice.

David and Alice are both worthy of having shows of their own. Compare them to the clowns who host the color show and Design on a Dime. David is the conceptual designer, although the criticisms of his concepts not being liveable are valid. Alice 's voice and laugh and class are enticing. I think HG is the winner for a concept brought forth at the right time. Other shows on HG (Like the above), I wonder how they got the job...Clive, you shine on this. Give both of these talents a show - and you can't lose. Build the program around each of them.

I must admit--I wrote an email to HGTV early in the series slamming the silly, melodramatic aspects of this show. I still think a lot of the melodrama was ridiculous and annoying, but I was hooked by the contestants and the judges, and by the variety of design ideas. Next time, can you tone the silliness down a little??!! And bump up the time spent on showing the final designs and hearing more of the judges' reactions?
RE: the "final two": I absolutely LOVED all of David's designs--they were so bold and interesting--but, as another commentor said, not quite liveable (were there reading lamps by the bedside or night tables to put a cup of tea on?). And I thought his hosting greatly improved over time--he's hip and fun. Alice's designs were, I thought, a bit more pedestrian but much more practical, and she is so completely charming as a "host"--I could listen to her for hours. In the end, I favored David slightly more--I'd enjoy seeing his bold designs more.
Like many other commentors I agree that I'd love to see a show involving both of them. Kind of a She/He Designs--contrasting David's bold designs vs. Alice's softer designs. With both of them sharing the hosting. They clearly have a good relationship and would be great fun to watch.

Well I have been watching HGTV for years, and I have learned a lot from it, and I have watched every year, and I feel that Alice is great at what she does, but David is a true Designer, and he has a ton of idea's and he knows how to please who he is working for. It is a pleasure to see what he comes up... I hope he is the winner...

Actually Clive is my favorite and the reason I watched the show. But between the two designers I thought David's designs were the best. For the final challenge his design was far better than Alice's but I would have liked one splash of color somewhere. Alice is much more personable and would probably make a better host. Overall I thought this series was very enjoyable!

DAVID, DAVID and DAVID. What's a talent! I think he, without a doubt, should be the Design Star and hosts his own show. He has such great personality, his designs were unmatched. I would love to have him designed my place. Good luck David. I count on seeing your shows in the near future.

Wow! A remarkable show with so many talented designers. Although some of them left a whole lot to be desired, with some odd and off the wall designs, I am sure they relished their time in the sun and I give them credit for entering the contest. I believe those "your show has been cancelled" were terminated with just cause. David and Alice are, by far, the top designers of the whole and deserve royal treatment. I simple loved David's final design and his ability to shine with artistry, sets him above the run of the mill designer. So, he prances around in a T. LET HIM! He is pleasing to the eye. Alice, the charming southern gal, is also tops. Her southern drawl is right up my alley because I have the drawl too. Something about a southern drawl...it gets ya right in th' heart! I wish the two of them success and hope their careers soar to great heights. The only gripe, if you call it a gripe, is the judges should never have been allowed to comment on the final design, since the general public were judges. Clive, honey, you'da bomb. You can come in my house any day and tell me what you do to the young girl whose closet is a mess...but I certainly won't shut the door! Take care, Love, and have a good day, ya' hear?

I LOVE DAVID'S DESIGNS!!!!! I hope he wins!
also, I love Vern's designs and I wish he was doing his own show. HGTV!!!! We need shows about maximizing space in a studio. small spaces is not a good show and many of the spaces aren't really that small???

I LOVE DAVID!. Alice is ok, but if I had to choose someone to design a room in my home it would have to be DAVID. Eveyone of his designs were great. My favorite was where he had to shop at the pet store and come up with something for his room. He definitely stood out above everyone else. You can have great camera presence, but if you designs are not strong, you will not be able to keep the viewers interested. David can pick up with practice his hosting skills, but his designs are AWESOME. I will be watching Sunday and I hope he wins. As far as his shirt, he can take it off anytime. With a body like his, why hide his assets.

What a fun show this has been. I have enjoyed each episode and totally agree that the best two made it to the finals. They are both talented but I think that Alice is more well rounded and has the ability to pull off very attractive and functional rooms. David really is an artist and his room designs reflect that. But they all have his signature style all over them with little variety. And as far as function goes, they leave quite a bit to be desired. A well designed room is both beautiful and functional. As for who would make the most engaging host it is without a doubt, Alice! David is cute but seems a little anxious and does not draw you in like Alice does. She got all of my votes! I hope she wins. Whether she or David wins they are both winners. Thier success on this show will most likely have a very positive impact on thier careers and who knows, maybe another network would offer them a show. Best of luck to both of them.
Good job Clive!

am an avid watcher of hgtv. love you clive. as far as a design star...i feel the same as some others, it would be great if dave and alice could co-host. i wonder though if there would be room for both of their personalities on the same show. i kind of got the feeling in the last design that alice was tired and was ready to say, "ok dave, you win, i'm ready to go home." i think she's tired of all his stuff, she has a lot of class, a real southern belle. one judge particularly thinks dave should win. it's clear he has talent and knows how to play to the judges, but the public is fickle. he needs to step it up and look outside the box or maybe push the walls out alittle. maybe this will develop if he doesn't let his success get in the way. he's like a kid in a room full of toys and that's great, now let it fly dave...best of luck.

For the final challenge of the glass houses, it appeared to me that David spent his off time, before this final challenge, working on his hosting skills. He came across great when showing the audience his incredible asian bedroom design. He has my vote totally. I sure hope I get to see him on his own HGTV show.

Finally had a chance to watch the last episode. Was slightly disappointed that David and Alice both chose to do bedrooms. There was a great opportunity to do "dining in the park" with a beautiful dining room. "Relaxing in the park" with a cozy living room. Or "sleeping in the park" which they both chose to do. Maybe because the budget was limited, (we were never told the budget)a bedroom was a cheaper way to go. If one had done a different room from the other, I don't think when the "judges" came they would have been able to compare the two rooms. They didn't influence me in any way. I already knew who I was going to vote for.
Why does it bother anyone whether or not David wears a shirt? Often times when my husband and I are working outside in the front of the house I wish I could take off my shirt as he does. But he works very hard and he works up more of a sweat than I do. I believe the same as David. He works physical harder than Alice.
Alice, while very sweet and extremely likable is not a designer. She is a decorator and unfortunately it showed in this episode. Her room confused me and lacked the designer quality. David, on the other hand, designed and decorated his space beautifully.
I was happy to see that Temple, with no one to argue with, was very helpful to both of them. Tym is a very good carpenter and designer, but not a good decorator. Both of them worked very hard for whoever they worked for that day. They both tried to help either David or Alice achieve their goal.
I sure hope in the next week that the judges will be able to explain to Joseph why as team leader, he was eliminated over Vanessa, but when Temple was team leader, Donna was eliminated over her. It still doesn't make sense to me. Did the judges somehow have second thoughts on eliminating the leader and not the person responible for the mistake?
Anyway, I'm sorry to see the show end and I look forward to the next one.

David's sense of fun and energy is infectious. He has his own very creative, clean style which comes through in all of his designs. Alice tries to interpret what the client wants whether it is her taste or not. She's sweet and easy on the eyes. They seem to enjoy each other's company and have fun together. With David's shirt off, and Alice's good looks, having a show with both of them hosting would be a fantastic balance and appeal to a wide audience. While their styles are different, I think they could work well together, and the synergy of their passion, combined creativity and charm would make for a highly engaging show to watch.

Liked the unique challenge of the last episode. Thought Alice's product lacked cohesiveness and completeness. Theme appeared to be almost an afterthought. David's product clung together. But, neither really embraced the park environment thoroughly.
Posted by Bill – September 7, 2006 3:07 PM
I agree with the other comments about David and Alice having a good chemistry. I would love to see them both work together on a show. David's designs are great, but too severe. Alice could bring some femininity and softening and color.
Posted by Betty – September 7, 2006 2:05 PM
Alice has great tv presence, but David covers all bases. he got my vote. My only question about the whole series is where the hell did they get that idiot Ramona ( the 1st cancel) A dumpster diver who can't work with others. Maybe it was to give us someone to hate immediately, followed by Donna who could only shop. Great show.
Posted by Gordon – September 7, 2006 1:15 PM
Does anyone else think that Alice makes some very goofy faces when she's not in hosting mode, sure she can turn on for the moment but I think David is much more sincere and he is obviously the better designer.
Posted by Nina – September 7, 2006 11:25 AM
To me it would all come down to what kind of show they will be doing and also what the majority of people will watch. Both are great but I'd hire/watch Alice. David's designs are more unique but not my style. Alice seems to be able to make it work better in an existing room. Like I said, depends on the type of show they will be doing. Both are really great and I also would like to see them working together.

Some have written that the judges favored David from the beginning. These judges were professionals and recognized a fellow professional. David's work in EVERY challenge was marvelous and the judges conveyed that in their critique.

I WAS NEVER REALLY INTO REALITY SHOWS, UNTIL I HAPPENED TO TURN ON THIS ONE AND I LOVED IT. I HAVE WATCHED THE REPEATS ALL WEEK AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I NEVER DO.
ALICE, REMINDS ME OF GRACE ON THE THE TV SHOW WILL & GRACE. AND, I LIKE HER WORK, BUT IT JUST SEEMED LIKE IN MY OPINION THAT THE GLASS HOUSE JUST THROUGH HER FOR A LOOP AND SHE DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO.
NOW, FOR DAVID'S HOUSE IT JUST ROCKED; AS MY OLDEST WOULD SAY. EVERYTIME HE WAS GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO HIS OWN THING, I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. I KNOW THAT I VOTED FOR DAVID EVERYDAY THAT I COULD.

I absolutely have loved David's designs from the get-go. Alice is good, too, however there isn't a "wow" factor in any of her designs. Design Star is the only reality show on TV that I have truly enjoyed from day 1. Good job!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick post to comment on those that complain about David not keeping his shirt on....I know David personnally and I've been to his studio where he puts in long hard hours in the Miami heat with no air conditioning. Living in Miami and working in those conditions cater to working with minimal clothing. In fact living in Miami caters to wearing minimal clothing. It simply doesn't have anything to do with professionalism or sexism or any of the other criticisms that have been posted. He's simply more comfortable working in a hot environment without a shirt. If you noticed while he was doing the room in Washington state his shirt stayed on. With shirt on or off David's designs were simply and consistently superior to the others and he gets my vote.

I have been on the egde of my seat through this whole show...All the people that I wanted voted off was voted off, and the ones I wanted to stay were there until the very end...I really like Alice's work but David blew me away everytime! Good Luck to them both!

We started watching the series sporadically on Sunday nights, caught the whole series on Labor Day and again today due to bad weather in the southwest. wow, we are building contractors, so we may look at things in a different light, but David just shined to the stars. We are a hubby and wife team, but we both agreed, he just stood so far above the rest, his designs are innovative and effortless and so right on target. While we both like Alice and Tym for design projects, David seems to have a natural feel for client needs, timing and a natural flair for asthetic appeal. Good heavens, a kitchen in 32 hours, yet he just went to work;.......can we hire him? We also agree here, his hosting is A ok, very effortless, natural and relaxed. We all would watch him any time, he is what the real world is needing. And a huge thank you to Tym for bringing in the element of timing and honesty to clients,we have a great respect for both these contestants. Best of luck to both of them. Alice was cute, but not so adorable to make us want to watch every episode, TWICE. Our best of luck to her as well, she is a great second choice. Barb

Clive:
From one Brit to another-I LOVE YOU! The only reason I began watching "Design Star" was because I saw you on the advertisements! And please come back to "Designed to Sell"! I miss you!
Now about this episode. I must say my favourite to win is Alice. Her use of colour in every episode is great. I can always expect something new from her.
As for David... Blah. Always the same! He was my favourite after episode 3, but after that I turned towards Alice.
As for co-hosting? One word: NO! Alice is the clear choice to me.
Posted by Lily – September 7, 2006 1:14 AM
David is the clear talent here, he is so creative.

What a classy show! Clive, as always, was funny, enchanting and kind. All three judges were professional and impressive with their evaluations of the work performed. And, after suffering through the necessary "conflicts" designed to get the viewer emotionally engaged in the competition, the top three contestants - David, Alice and Tym - showed themselves to be talented and engaging. I sense their fondness and admiration for each other is real.
This competition is about finding the DesignStar. In my view, David is the clear winner. Although I would want Alice to decorate my home, I was fascinated with David's ability to engage me with his design energy and there is something about Tym's intense physical energy that draws me in!
It would be a real shame if HGTV doesn't find a way to add all these individuals - David, Alice and Tym - to your outstanding talent pool. Together, separately, old shows, new shows - it doesn't matter. These are the type of "performers" who draw viewers to your shows. I would love to see more of all three of them.
Thanks, HGTV, for a classy product, everyday.

I love watching David on camera, he is a little awkward (no one can deny that Alice is a natural), but his enthusiasm really draws me in. I think with some training and consistancy (to build him a comfort level) David will be able to control and manage the camera he is in front of. I love his originality and artistice talents that are so very original, but Alice has a way with the client, filling the needs they ask to have resolved. While David's designs are fantastic and original to the person, Alice's are very realistic and something I would be more likely to bring into my own home. I would absolutly love to have a show with the two of them together, I think they play off each perfectly, and where one is weak, the other will "pick up" the slack and the overall show will be fun, talented, and meet the needs of the client. I started this week certain I would vote for Alice, but I cast mine for David. GOOD LUCK to them both, they are truly winners.

I agree, THE best reality show. Alice is talented and charming. There is nothing about her that is not likeable, she just seems to be missing that one little "touch" that pulls everything together. However, David is an all inclusive package. While he is not the natural in front of the camera (when prompted), he has a dynamic and very likeable enthusiastic personality, especially when non-scripted. He should be the next DESIGN star. He has vision, talent, execution, imagination, and so much more. And, he is able to pull it all together with a WOW factor but his work is never over the top. I cannot believe his indoor/outdoor boxes were just grazed over in the final challenge. His work is, as one judge said, "genius." While I think David & Alice work well together, I truly think David is a one-man show. It would be nice to have Alice come on the show for guest appearances. On the remaining contestants...Donna is a decorator, Temple has some talent but it is overshadowed by her poor attitude. Vanessa, whoa, I hate to say this but she was the most self-absorbed person on the show. So unlikeable and limited in talent/creativity. Ramona, she just needs a thrift shop to run. I also think the judges were honest, professional, and compassionate. One could not argue with their choices nor their reasons. A well-fit panel for the show. Clive, I just love watching him. His personality complements everyone and every situation.

Whenit comes to voting on who will win, sometimes you dont have to scratch a leg to think, because the genius always "shine".
david comes like a shining armour , destined
to win.his design ideas are hot, simple lines with a strong statement makes one person really at home, very cozy.He is able to reach out
to his clients by his clever design that fits beyond the imagination of his client.Bravo David!

DAVID ROCKS.
I came late to the party, but I saw all episodes on re-runs, and agreed with the "cancellations" every time.
Now, down to the final challenge, I think David showed that he can create a harmonious room in ANY setting. His designs have all been vibrant and exciting, yet suited the space. For this very very difficult challenge, he reined in his trademark WOW factor to make the best room yet, perfect for the glass room in the park. Even with the crowds outside, I think I could peacefully drop off to sleep in that flawless zen room. More of a whispered "wow."
His presentation was a vast improvement. He is clearly trainable. There's no way HGTV is going to let him on the air without being able to fine-tune his hosting skills. As much as I liked Alice's personality and camera presence, I feel David will be her equal. His inner kindness and generosity will shine through, as we have come to know him "off-camera" (well, there was obviously a camera present, but you know what I mean).
Alice's room was disappointing, but I think she made a poor choice with a child's room then did the best she could. Loved the chandelier, but the rest was not inspiring. I hope she gets to guest on David's show, if he wins, because she is sweet and a natural on camera, and her ideas have been good.
Design talent like David's is innate and cannot be learned.
What a fun, involving show! I am surprised at how much I care about the outcome -- I've never gotten so much into a competition reality show before except for "Project Runway." I guess it's the excitement of seeing people unleash their creativity and grow along those lines.
It doesn't hurt to have such a fabulous host! Clive, you're the best!
Posted by Marsha – September 6, 2006 11:03 PM
While both contestants are very worthy of winning, and having their own style. I have yet to love all of Davids designs. (his red room was like office cubby turned living space.) Alice works outside the "box". I did like David glass house better, but overall liked all of Alice's designs. All the contestants showed talent, some more than others. Good luck to both!

Kudos, HGTV! What a fantastic show! To sit for four solid hours because you don't dare miss a moment speaks volumes for your specific goal to showcase designers' talents and unique challenges. No getting mired down in drawn out drama, which has little value. All the participants had value and talent, and even at the end of each segment, Clive's task of voicing the decision of the judges, was gentle and professional. Now we have David and Alice. David has the wonderful energy, talent and creative passion for his work! Alice has the beautiful, feminine side in her creativity and her compelling TV presence seems so natural and sweet. Whoever wins, we pray we will see both of you in the future in our homes for a long time and benefit from your fantastic gifts!
Producers, directors.....all of you, our undying gratitude for an awesome television experience!

Just saw the next to last episode this afternoon... (too late to vote! )
David has great designs (absolutely beautiful!), but ALICE is the hostess. She's charming, friendly, warm, great hair, cute face, and soothing voice. And though David's designs are perfection for looking at, I could actually live in Alice's designs - comfortable, just spiced up a bit.

I love them both. Both have outstanding design talent and tv presence. They have a cute chemistry together and will pull in the viewers. Put them together as co-hosts on a show.
Posted by Cliff – September 6, 2006 10:04 PM
How can you all be voting for DAVID? It doesn't make sense! Have any of you noticed that his designs are not functional or livable-imagine walking on a wood chip floor or whacking your ead on hose wicker "thingees" on the ceiling. UNFUNCTIONAL 100 PERCENT!!! His designs are predictable and lack warmth. His "ingenuity" makes me sick- the same "pet" room was sent to me by my sister in Idaho by e-mail (no kidding!). Alice, on the other hand, has a huge base of ideas. She wears APPROPRIATE CLOTHING! Sure, that shirt was a little low, but a low shirt is better than NO SHIRT AT ALL!!!
Alice is the clear choice. I will not watch a show hosted by David and will not accept a co-host show. Period Amen.

While I like Alice's designs I think she plays it too "safe." The children's bedroom was just a children's bedroom although a very nice one. David appears to have more imagination and the confidence to put his designs together. He also seems to be able to spark the imagination of the viewers, as I am considering using a few of his ideas.

My husband and I looked forward to Sunday nights all week! It was great to see Vern, again. We really enjoyed watching the talent and personalities of the contestants. The challenges were so interesting. We wish David had done more with his original art work. His designs were super!!
But...our hearts and votes belong to Alice. She'll make a Delightful Design Star.

I like both designers work but David is the PERFECT choice for HGTV. He's more confident and skilled and a overall designer. David you rock!!
Alice is terrific and a great designer, but lacks the confidence to pull it together with her own, she needs advice too often. Go with you gut feeling lady and you'll do just fine. Making it to the second runner no matter who wins and the winner you both win.
Great job Alice and David and all the other designers that put theirselves in the spotlight to go for it and we love a good design show!
I vote for David as the designer.
I'm a southern and I like the southern drawl. Everyone has one :) And you can tell she's a very nice, talented designer. I think she'd work great like on design on a dime where they all work as a team weekly.
Cheers and good luck to both David and Alice now and in the future.

I think Alice completely missed the purpose of the glass room. She should have adapted it to that wonderful chandelier she found and truly made it an "Alice thru the Looking Glass" room. How perfect would that be? Along with the dots on the ceiling, she could have added bead curtains, mirrored head board or a round bed smack in the middle of the room with polka dot spread, bead bag chair, soft pillows everywhere, etc, etc. Then = any child, teen, grandma would love it. She is so sweet however, I can't knock her too much. David on the other hand was always spectacular. I especially noticed that they were the only 2 who didn't complain about anyone else the whole time, no quarreling, no back biting, no fighting, just tears for winning and getting done!! Hurrah!!!. Good luck to you both, you will be fab whatever you do or wherever you go.

In the end, after re-watching and re-reading, I went for David for the sole reason that he seems more comfortable in front of the camera. This show has been great. As a reality show junkie, I really wondered how you were going to pull it off. Congratulations to everyone involved because it was definitely a winner! My favorites for some reason seemed to be all the men and I'd be happy to watch any of them in their own shows. Great job HGTV!

Even though I believe David will win this last challenge, I believe HGTV, its veiwers, and Alice and David will all benefit the most from Alice and David co-hosting. As stated by others, David has a more modern style while Alice is more conventional and traditional - what most people are. This compliment of styles and talent would truely bring balance to a show and add another creative demension. The key word today is diversity and you have it with these two. Also, I believe David would loosen up and slow down a bit working with someone as open as Alice. He does very well in conversation vs "reporting."
HGTV, do us all a favor and see if the winner is open to sharing the stage. We will still all know who won the contest, but we will still be able to enjoy a great team.
David, I think you may be the winner. You have excellent creative capacity. I have even seen your work in person. Congrats! Now, would you consider broaching the question with HGTV and Alice of having a co-host - it will be your show.......?
Alice - you have also done a fantastic job - and your designs would work great in my home - which is why I watch HGTV - to see how I could redesign my own living space. I have a feeling this will not be the last we see of you, and I'm looking forward to the next time!
Judges & HGTV: You did a great job throughout the series with your evaluations and guidance. I believe it was misplaced in this last show though. This was to be judged by the viewers and your comments I believe brought in a bias and did not leave the two designers to stand on their own merit. That is a loss. Take this as a learning opportunity for next time. Find something else to shoot if you need to fill the air time.
Also, I agree with someone else's comments that the designers should know in advance what their resources will be (help or no help). If you want to get tricky take away a resource or add a requirement midstream (i.e. they would have to incorporate a 5'x7' piece of cardborad into the design, a roll of tin foil, or a rock etc.) and make sure the change up is fair - doesn't favor one person's skill set ove another.
Thanks to all. Great Show!

Believe Alice to be best to watch and learn from on a livable basis as well as design. Can't wait to buy David's coffee table book of design--great picture, but possibly not as livable. Re: kitchen how many man hours did it take to "finish" and how much more material purchased? Did the family keep the floor as done...Did some of the designers "throw" their designs to get cancelled early for some unknown reason...On the glass room how went the budget...noticed neither "purchased" additional labor/help.

I know some think they should co-host. I DON'T want them to have a show together at all. They have different style and for the most part appeal to different crowd too. David will do his contemporary and fantasy-art inspired rooms. Alice will do her traditional/southern living thing she wants to do. Personally I'm a fan of David's work and creative talent. I just want to watch him do his own show. If he wins maybe they can have a contestant appear on his show helping him out couple times. I'd rather Temple and Donna appear separately on his show (I think they both like him) And maybe Alice can appear with him once too, but that's all I can handle. Let them have their own separate shows if they want - but not together. I'M ONLY INTERESTED IN DAVID'S SHOW.

The first show I watched was the pet store MASTERPIECE that David did!!! Unreal!! His work was absolutely lightyears ahead of the rest, and I think the judges were so blown away they actually contained themselves to not show favoritism. David's work has been awe-inspiring, and it is so hands-down obvious who the best designstar is!! I think Alice really went the wrong direction with the child's room, and it puzzles me why such bland posters were adequate over the beds, for such an important style and concept piece. they didn't fit. If she had take Alice in Wonderland and actually put that into the room with the looking glass, teapots, hats wilders colors and patterns etc.
David won this challenge so completely, and he is deserving of this show in every way including polishing up his presenting skills which even improved!

Design Star is the best show ever! Period!
Posted by Paul – September 6, 2006 7:50 PM
I love them both, but David got my vote. I loved everything he did. It was nice to watch a contest show where people were kind to each other and not back-stabbing (except for drama queens Temple and Donna). Next time, though, I'd like to hear more comments from the judges or have them actually view the designers' work -- not just through the videos.

Alice is the one, y'all!!
David's brilliant...but his TV style is not as comfy and homey as Alice's....
And Alice is so cute!!
She's an excellent designer...and is able to give people what they want...and still show her talent....
Go Alice!!!!

Hello Clive,
Well? Who shall be the next(make that the FIRST) design star?
David....no Alice......And what about Tym? He looked so nice coming back, he has such a great TV presence. And he walked right in and built David's design. These two work so well together.
I think David's room was the definite winner. I liked Alice's room but it did not come together like David's.
Again, the two of them looked great together! In the hotel suite giving each other 'courage'they seemed so sincere. And on onscreen these two just 'pop' together.
If I can ever get my computer to let me vote...I'll be voting for David. But it is really too close to call.

I loved both David and Alice. She is sweet but David's designs definitely had the "Wow" factor. He didn't just push furniture around but came up with a truly exquisite design each time. I could hardly wait for the finished room because I knew it would be such a delightful surprise. He got my votes.

I loved both Alice & David's personalty. I feel David has the ability to visualize a complete design in his mind and execute it. That to me is the true talent. I love David's clean lines and loved all of his designs on the show (the pet store room still amazes me). I loved Alice's "tiffany box blue" room, but in the final challenge I was disturbed by the plain writing on the poster boards mounted on the headboards and poster boards hanging on the walls. If a designer did that in my room I would not be happy. Therefore, I voted for David -

I voted for david because I LOVE his desingns.
P.S.I am only 10 but I LOVE to desingn

I love em both! My only regret is that Tym isn't in the finals as well. How refreshing it has been to watch a reality show where we ended up watching talented people who actually seem like nice human beings as well. I'll be happy no matter which one wins - David's room was better this week, but Alice has done a fine job overall as well.
HIRE THEM BOTH!!

i will start off by saying that i feel too many people focused on the "skin" issue. who cares? it never even caught my attention until 1029843747 of you pointed it out :)
thumbs up to hgtv for a wonderful job on the first season....clive was an awesome host, as usual.
i voted for david b/c he left me speechless everytime...
david, alice, and tym are all wonderful designers.my two favorites from the beginning were tym and david... but by the end alice had won me over too. (and alice your accent is adorable) i would absolutly looooooove to see ALL of them on a show.
Posted by melissa – September 6, 2006 6:50 PM
I really hope that david wins! I love all of his designs and art work. He truly should be the design star!! good luck David!!!!!!!!!
Posted by caitlin – September 6, 2006 6:37 PM
David's design was superior this time around, but I voted for Alice. I find the fact that he has to design and work shirtless REALLY annoying; yes, he has a great body, but the show is about DESIGN...But if wants people to look at his designs, he needs to remain fully clothed.
Posted by Paul – September 6, 2006 6:36 PM
"People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."
Thank GOODNESS you picked Alice and David for the final challenge! HA HA HA!!!
They are the most collaborative of the all the designers from the original 10, so they were easy to work with, and easy to work for. It is no surprise that the 2 have such a good rapport.
I could easily see having either of them redesigning a room in my house. And I would give them more than 28 hours to complete it. ;)

I happened on the show in the middle of the season by accident. I hate I didn't get in on watching from the beginning and hope they will have another season of it.
I really like Alice and her personality. I liked her Tiffany Box Blue room she did in the first show I caught. But overall David's designs have been the best in my opinion and really shone. That is why my votes have gone to David!
ummm... Maybe they should co-host and make up for each other's weaknesses!

Even my husband, who always says "Don't you get tired of that channel?" said "Wow" to David's glass house.
I love the way David uses unusual materials, like his kooky rugs, and makes them a favorite point in a room. So many of his decorating choices are not what anyone else would decide on, but turn out so beautifully.
He has shown that he factors in all aspects of his designs, more than the obvious room itself. He looks at functionality, wants and needs of the client, how the room will really be used-and who will be using it. But what truly sets him apart is he can sense the emotions that are going to be felt in a room, and translate that into design.
I think HGTV has not just a design star, but a design ambassador in David.

Why I voted for Alice... I love David's designs, but regardless of what the judges say (:) ) His style is very predictible. It has all be fantastic, but Alice has her own style, but she is not as predictable. She works with the space, adapting her style. I would love to see them both have a show... David a show like Kenneth's but Alice, I think she would work best in any circumstances.
PS-I think Tym was great too, and would be a great TV personality. :) Maybe a new Trading spaces, with the three of them as some of the designers? :)

This is the first reality TV I have watched. It is an excellent show, the Host, the Judges, the Contestants, the Challenges, and most of all the TALENT, I predict the most talented will win and deservidly so but I agree with many of the other viewers and we all like Alice's style and personality as well. We would love to see them co-host or atleast have an Alice segment. Good Luck with second season, this one will be hard to top.

I Love, Love all David's designs! The Pet Store, WOW! I have to say he reminds me a lot of Vern's clean lines.Love Vern too. And I met Clive at work, he is as nice in person as on TV. See you in Prada and vote for David.
Posted by Sherry – September 6, 2006 4:59 PM
I feel as a designer that David is more innovative and completes each project that he is given. It would have been nice to have seen some interaction between designer and client. However, it isn't my show. I feel that all of the designers accept Donna need a person to help them dress professionally. Maybe this will improve with their experience. Love the show.

Ohhh I love Alice and previous to the final I would have given her the slight edge over David. But it was always ever so close and David's final design completely stole my vote. The space was zen like, and I loved the effect you got from viewing the raindrops through the gauzy fabric he draped over the bed. Truly inspired and inspiring. I felt like I could lie there and drift calmly to sleep. I loved his confidence in sticking to his vision and not adding colour as one judge suggested. It was completely unnecessary in the final design. He created such a unique space without requiring many obvious, ostentatious elements. He created a feeling, an atmosphere - in a glass house in the middle of a rainy park. In 26 hours? Now that's a design star. David, you won me over. Congratulations!

I'd love to see both Alice and David with their own shows! They're both fun to watch, and definitely draw the viewer in. A show with both of them as a team would be fantastic! I could see them doing a Trading Spaces (sorry, diff't network!)kind of show.
Like the other viewers, I'm also really glad that this competition was fair and truly based on talent. The top designers of the bunch made it to the finals, and I was soooo worried at the beginning that some of the other, ahem, personalities would get to the finals without any talent to show for it.
The judges did a great job, and of course, Clive has been a wonderful host, as always.

To HGTV - whichever "design star" wins this one - please don't forget the OTHER (and Tym, too!)! Looks to me like each of David, Alice, and Tym has come out of this with a fan base of his/her own! Your audience would LOVE to see all three of them again!
Oh, and one more thing - I've read several comments here about "Alice's annoying drawl" -- why do people think it's okay to say nasty things about Southerners, but it's never okay to say nasty things about the way other people talk? Her accent is her accent! We all have accents, people! Maybe somebody thinks YOUR accent is annoying!
In other words, if it doesn't pertain to someone's ACTIONS and CHOICES - then - BE NICE!

This was by far the best reality show I've ever watched. It really showed the true spirit of healthy competition and how it can bring out the best in everyone. I voted for David, but as with some many others here, I would absolutely love to watch a show co-hosted by David and Alice. David for the "Wow" factor, and Alice to reign things in a little when he gets out of control. Again, Congratulations HGTV!
Posted by Dave G – September 6, 2006 4:04 PM
I believe David can immediately see a vision in his mind, and it includes artwork, color, space utilization, materials , and also what needs to be done to complete the job. He can do this while working well with others. What a wonderful, rounded , talented individual! As others have mentioned, I think Alice is a TV natural, and I had a hard time giving her a negative vote of any kind, but you WERE looking for a new design talent, and he has it ALL.
Posted by Gail – September 6, 2006 3:59 PM
I think they should both win too! David and Alice are much better together than they are apart. But in the end if I have to choose it will be David. I loved his pet store room! His finished product was always great! Alice is more comfortable on camera, but that will come in time for David. He always talked great on camera he just got too rushed when talking about his rooms.
And as for Designed To Sell, Clive Pierce and Lisa LaPorter are the only design to sell show to watch. The chicago team has very little personality and do to may bargin basement finds. There houses never look as good as Lisa's and the other guy isn't fummy like Clive.

So I do agree with most when I say that this has truely been a great show! It seemed to have everything that one would need to keep your attention. I do love both Alice and David's styles and everything that they have put together. I ended up going with Alice though everyday! I really and truely did love the rooms that David did, but they were all the same. I think that i would much more enjoy a designer who stretches his or her own limits and trys to create something that the client would love and not just what they personaly like. Yes Alice's last project wasn't the best espically with the dorm room style bed's and the paintings in the middle of the glass. But look at the whole picture everything that they both have created.
Posted by Lindsie – September 6, 2006 3:48 PM
I have to say first that having the contest in glass houses is an ingenious test of David's and Alice's skills.
I think both contestants have plus and minuses and both are infectious likeable characters so I don't view this as a personality contest. Both are good on-camera.
This project program did lean toward David I'll admit it, but he did incorporate the glass house into the design of the room where I feel Alice might have used the glass as another type of wall. I think the rain helped, belive it or not, making David's design more visually appealing.
David's was simple but elegant, Alice's was complex but thoughtful.
I give the edge to David because I think it would be more interesting to see what David does to resolve design challenges in a new HGTV show.
I think whoever 'loses' it won't be the last we hear from them.
Posted by Dale – September 6, 2006 3:45 PM
The show doesn't have the name "Design" in it for nothing. David is the one person who continually came up with a design vs. decorating (pet store anyone?). He did both design and decor in the same space. I do agree there is great chemistry between David and Alice. But David is the clear winner here and I can't wait to see what he can do with time, funds, trademans, and pre-planning that his own show would provide. Alice would be a nice compliment to him doing her own little "short piece" of the program. But David should be the star. Period.

Clive...Your the greatest host...Also love you and Lisa on Design to Sell...
Great group of designers to start with a great mix of ideas and philosophy's...But the bottom line is getting to the end...Both David and Alice are talented with stage presence going to Alice and David not far behind (He has a great ability to learn fast)...Design wise it's close but David is a confident designer with a hot bag of skills and idea...He does one thing that separates the two--He creates from whats presented and his final product is always breath taking...Hopefully you will have alice as a guess on his show after he's established... It was exciting and can't wait for season #2...As always Clive your the man...

David showed so much more creativity then Alice. He always had some personal art work and something he had built to add to the room. He didn't rely only on what he could purchase to put in the room, thus he was able to be more creative. I agree that it wasn't necessary to add a punch of color in his room. The calm you had when you saw it was what he wanted.

My daughter and I have been sitting on the edge of our seats watching Design Star. This is the only "reality" show that I've ever watched! I would have liked to have seen the contestants do individual spaces for the first 2 or 3 competitions so that we could get an idea what their style was. And then move on to group projects later on with only the more talented designers. The group projects in the beginning led to too much conflict and some designers "taking over" the rooms. I absolutely would love to see a show with David, Alice, and especially Tym together--something like Trading Spaces using all three of them. All three of them impress me. Individually they all have some weaknesses, but together they would be awesome!
Posted by Jane – September 6, 2006 3:04 PM
I became totally hooked on the show! David won me over from the beginning in every way - good looks, personality, smile, professionalism, and of course, talent. Alice is deserving of second place, but to be honest, her designs did not have the "wow" factor.
Posted by Judy – September 6, 2006 2:46 PM
Voting was SO hard!! I absolutely adore watching Alice, but David has some really nice designs. I would really like for BOTH to get their own shows. They were both my favorites since episode 1.
Posted by Elisabeth – September 6, 2006 2:43 PM
David's shirt off, Alice's cleavage, they are all the same. While it does bother me a bit, I still truly enjoy the tremendous talents and great personalities these two have. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the fact that this show does not encourage conniving and backstabbing behaviors so prevalent in almost all other reality shows. Design is about bringing out the beauty within and around each and everyone of us. Good job, Clive! Good job, HGTV!

Fascinating show, from the first minute. I haven't been riveted to the TV like this for years.!! The cream has risen to the top and David and Alice both belong in the final voting process. We have voted for David as his design sense and style shine in all his work, and whatever space and materials available to him becomes something beautiful and interesting. The sequence where he was unable to assemble the chair, and in frustration finally handed it off to the carpenter who couldn't figure it out either, was "reality television" at it's best. Design Star indeed.
Posted by John & Sandie – September 6, 2006 2:23 PM
David clearly has the imagination and talent to do a type of design show that we haven't seen before . . . And I voted as much as I could to make sure he get's that opportunity. As far as the "no shirt controversy" goes . . . Get over it! It was clearly hot and muggy in New York, and no one should be faulted for trying to find some relief for goodness sakes!
Posted by Judi – September 6, 2006 1:43 PM
I agree - I have really enjoyed this show. Personally, I like both David and Alice. David created the best room with the final challenge but I also enjoy Alice's presence. They get along and are two great people who would be an amazing TEAM!
Posted by Sally – September 6, 2006 1:27 PM
What will the show be like that the Design Star will host? Can I put in my application now to have David (hopefully) come & design my bedroom? That would rock!
Posted by Linda – September 6, 2006 12:45 PM
I have a question for Clive.
I have been looking at the bios for the individual design star contestants. Three bill themselves as "interior designers", and of those three only Alice actually has an interior design degree. Both Vanessa and Donna boast of owning their own interior design firms, and Vanessa stated that she taught interior design; yet, Donna has no formal education and Vanessa is still a student. Legally, aren't Donna and Vanessa misrepresenting themselves--aren't they actually just interior decorators?
Posted by Linda – September 6, 2006 12:33 PM
What a refreshing reality show! The judges were not full of themselves and were genuinely interested and helpful! The contestants were all talented as well as entertaining. And absolutely the right two were competing in the last show! Very talented and very capable and very versatile. (I do have my favorite, but won't share it right now.)
Posted by Roberta – September 6, 2006 12:30 PM
NO! They should not co-host a show. Alice has a cute TV personality but that does not make up for her design abilities. All of David's designs have been Grade A, especially the final show. David has improved greatly in front of the camera and was confident in his design which said "WOW" (and from the voting, America loved it!), but Alice relied too much on the judges comments and ran out and tried to please them. Some of her elements were cute, but together they didn't quite make sense. The room looked cluttered and unfinished. Nothing about the room made me say "wow." All of David's designs have been spectacular!!
AS FOR THE JUDGES: they should have kept quiet. It seemed as though they were trying to sway the public's vote. If they wanted to make comments on the designs, it should have been on the next episode, after the public had voted.
Posted by Shelli – September 6, 2006 12:10 PM
I absolutelt loved the show. It's so hard to choose, but overall my favorite has been David. I really enjoy his personality, and the fact that he is comfortable with himself reflects through his work. Alice has done alot of great designs as well and to me her tiffany blue was pretty, but nothing
