Design Star

Episode 8: Finale Celebration

Posted by – September 10, 2006 9:57 PM

Well, we've reached the end of our journey, and while it's a bit sad that it's over, this episode was all about celebration, and rightly so.

An amazing dream has come true, and you made it happen, America. Your votes chose the new Design Star. Congratulations, David!

It was wonderful to see all the designers again (now looking well-rested and quite fabulous). For each one, the show was a life-changing experience and they all seemed thrilled about turning into celebrities! I was impressed with everyone's poise and presence on camera. It seems like only yesterday that I was standing in an empty New York townhouse in front of some very nervous people!

I loved doing the final show in front of a studio audience; the energy was amazing, and everyone loved the clips from the series. We had some fun with it, and I thought all the designers really were good sports about some of the gentle ribbing we passed out. They all behaved like stars!

I must say, it was thrilling to play game-show host and give away the Mercury Mariners. It was nice that neither David nor Alice walked away empty-handed. They both had worked so hard and done such a great job. (I will admit to a bit of devilish glee at their expressions when I brought those paint cans out for one last time!)

The incredible final moment of the announcement was made even more special by the appearance of the President of HGTV, Judy Girard. When she handed me that contract, I must admit to some nerves of my own. I TRULY had no idea whose name was inside! When I opened it, I read and re-read it several times, to make sure I had it right. Not a time when you want to make a mistake!

The reaction was tremendous, and it was a wonderful moment celebrating the launching of David's new career. Most TV hopefuls go through months and even years of endless effort before they get their big break, and I know he realizes what an amazing opportunity this is. I can't wait to see his new show!

I wanted to take one more opportunity to thank everyone for the kind comments after these blogs (I have read every single one of them), and the thousands of e-mails that have poured in through my website,
www.clivepearse.com.

When you begin a new show, you can never be sure how the public will react, but I must say that this reaction has been fantastic. Your support means everything; after all, without you, there would be no shows!

I want to sign off with one final bit of good news. There have been some rumors flying around, and I have some confirmation. After the show, HGTV President, Judy Girard, pulled me aside and said: "Congratulations, Clive. Your show has NOT been cancelled! There will be a Design Star season two!" That was wonderful to hear — so keep checking HGTV.com for details on how to apply. I know you will join me next year as we search for another talented designer to be the next Design Star. Thanks for watching!

Clive, you are a Class Act!!!! I love your witty remarks. Love the Design to Sell show with Lisa Laporte and Love the commercials both of you are doing. HGTV is my favorite show. Watch it all the time. Was SOOOOOOOO happy that David won. I love Alice as well, such a Classy Lady and hope to see her again. David, congrats with your new design show! Can't wait for it to get started and am so happy to hear that Clive will remain with HGTV. I too watch all the re-runs of Design to Sell and love the ones with Clive and Lisa the best. But we have to give the other team a chance! Once we get used to them I'm sure we will learn to love them as well!
Again, David, I wish you much success with your own brand-new design show, love what you have done sofar!!!!! Keep up the good work!

Design star was amazing! I've never gotten so in to a reality series until now. Absolutely fantastic all around. I was also blown away and excited Clive was the host! Great work everyone! I can't wait for next season!

I'm REALLY curious about David's show. Is there a title yet? I was going crazy when he won because no one told us what to look for from David! I guess I’ll just have to wait and see!

Here's one HDTV addict saying thanks for an amazing season!

Congratulations to David. Though I have to admit, I was hoping for a twist: For David and Alice to have a show together.

i have only caught some episodes but i loved the show. and i tried to keep up through the hgtv website. i knew from the start that it would be david. he has this x factor for excellence. and his character is awesome, too. i have rooted for him since the start because he also looked like my brother. ha ha...
i also liked alice. she's a nice gal and talented, too. but david certainly edged her out in terms of talent and imagination.

it showed on tv that they are both good human beings.

looking forward to david's show next year and the next season!!!

Congratulations to both Alice and David ... what an immense pool of talent between the both of them! Both are winners in their own right because both have reached the finale with two very different styles; maybe on a different day, it would have gone Alice's way, but all the same, David's victory was well deserved! Great job, David. They both represented themselves so well!

Posted by Harry – September 14, 2006 10:00 PM

Watched every episode and even the reruns.....David your designs were awesome. Alice your talent and personality truly shined. I think HGTV should do a show with both of them. Their design styles compliment each other. Can't wait till next season.

Hi,
David and Alice were fantastic contestants and very talented! I had a hard time choosing between them. I'm glad David won. I hope He and Alice will get together in the spring, to host a show.
Thanks Clive for being so funny, and entertaining! I love Designed to Sell, and loved Design Star!

It's been refreshing for the past weeks to watch a truly down-to-earth TV show like DesignStar.

Thanks to HGTV and to you, Clive, for your quips and hosting abilities. You kept it light, funny, and entertaining.

David and Alice, Tym and Temple are all stars! Each have exceptional talents.

This blog and the viewer's ability to be part of the process was just fantastic too.

I will be your loyal fan forever and ever!! I can't wait to see your show!

I just wanted to say that, as a designer myself and an avid HGTV fan, I loved the show. Both David and Alice are great talents and both deserved to be the final one. David's zen room was just fantastic and he deserved the win and the praise that he has received. I loved Alice's work and I hope that she will continue to do the great designs that she has displayed in the past. I look forawrd to the next season to see more of the bright talents that can be found in this country.

Posted by Russell – September 14, 2006 7:02 PM

Am definitely glad that David won, he is truly a great design talent. I am looking forward to watching his show.

The last episode could have been better. The Game Show format was pointless, as was brining back the other contestants. With the exception of Tym - who missed them? That whole Q&A with the judges was so fake. If Vanessa hadn't been given a question to ask, she seems like the type who would have grabbed the spotlight to try and explain/pretend like she didn't steal the credit for someone else's (probably David) design. The other episodes set the bar so high that this one was just silly and anti-climactic. Only David's tears at the end seemed genuine and saved the entire show from the abyss.

Next year (and I am DELIGTHED that there will be a next year) keep the show on longer. Vote people out one at a time or have a larger group of designers if you want weeks where two people get their shows cancelled. And don't insult the audiences intellect with "contestants" like Ramona. I have watched just enough reality tv to recognize that set-up: bring in a kook with absolutely no talent so you can get rid of them fast while you figure out what you like about the real contestants.

Thanks.

Design Star was the best show I seen in a long time. I watched each and every episode and never missed one. I loved David from the beginning as his designs were always well thought out and fun. Clive you are the best. I'm glad to hear that Design Star will have a second season. I look forward to seeing the next Design Star.

Posted by Donna Shannon – September 14, 2006 3:48 PM

David, You're THE BOMB!!

You display what true creativity means to design. Your designs ideas seem to come so naturally. It seemed like they just came "stress free and struggle free."

Where did you buy those lamps for the glass room? I really what to know.

I don't believe that I will ever been able to build things, but I am anxiously awaiting your show for design ideas.

You Go Boy!!

Posted by Cheryl – September 14, 2006 3:16 PM

Clive,

As an avid DTS fan, I was excited to see your new venture, Design Star. I was hooked from the first episode and often watched repeats because there was so much to see in each episode! Thanks for another great show! David and Alice are both wonderful and strong designers. I'm thrilled for David, his body of work was consistently terrific. Alice is so engaging and charismatic, I would watch any show she was on! (hint, hint) HGTV has created a terrific program that I look forward to seeing in DS2!

Posted by AnneMarie – September 14, 2006 2:44 PM

I, like Pat W. (Sept 14), resisted watching another boring "REALITY" show (Don't like/Don't watch 'em/ Can't make me!), and didn't watch Design Star at 1st; however, one shot and I was hooked. David, you called it ... He said from the beginning, "I don't do good, I do great!" and did he ever. The only glitch seemed to be his 'on camera' persona, but he learned to relax and shined like the true star he is.
I look forward to Spring 2007 with great anticipation.

Posted by Susan P. – September 14, 2006 2:18 PM

How refreshing, how fascinating and how original... All of these, as well as artist apply to David. But, just when will his show air and what is the name of it? I anxiously await his wonderful talent being aired. Very original work on his part and ingenuity in doing the room from the pet store. The glass room was like looking into a luxurious suite designed for the pleasure of peace and calm and speculation. Thank you HGTV for the series. I loved every minute of it.

Posted by Helen Harrington – September 14, 2006 1:51 PM

Congratulations David! Always on your design game. Your artistic vision is truly marvelous! Especially given the time and design constraints. Much personality came through in your presentations. Looking forward to your show!

Alice, I hope we see more of you. A true gem of a gal! I loved your "Man Cave" design. Perhaps HGTV would film a snippet of his reaction on returning from Iraq?

Might be nice to include Tym and Temple also on some episodes. Like Design on a Dime, with The Final Four!

Thanks to Judy Girard for being innovative. And Clive, ever the fun host! Looking forward to the next Design Star! Rock on folks!

Posted by Sandy – September 14, 2006 1:33 PM

Thank you HGTV for one of the most refreshing and enjoyable shows I've seen in years--on ANY TV channel. This one is really a winner. I loved every minute--so much that I keep watching the repeats over and over! Clive, you are the best! I can hardly wait for the next season! And, of course, along with the rest of the world, I love David and Alice. Actually, I think all of the designers on the show deserve another opportunity. They all have something unique to bring to the table. I especially like Tym. Anyway, thank you Ms. Girard for bringing this incredible show to us.

Posted by Pat W – September 14, 2006 12:34 PM

CONGRATS to David! He is a true talent and a most deserving winner.

I have to admit, I am not a big fan of reality shows in general and I didn't want to get "suckered" in... but I just *LOVE* HGTV (it's on whenever I am at home) and so I HAD to watch this one. Well, I found the show to be very entertaining. I cannot wait for the next one. Congrats to HGTV for a brilliant and successful show.

David is a fantastic designer. I loved all his work. I thought Vern's idea of adding a splash of color was the "predictable" thing to do - and I applaud David for choosing NOT to do it. His glass house design was "so genius"!

Alice has a great, natural TV presence. I hope they at least give her a cameo on David's (or any other) show. She will be a success at whatever she does.

One thing that I was most impressed by was how classy both David and Alice were. Humble and genuine. It was a pleasure watching them every week. Both are winners in life. All the best to both of them.

David, you were our pick from the beginning. You could design for me anytime. Congratulations!!!

Posted by dodie – September 14, 2006 11:16 AM

David, Congratulations, you were (and are) great! Your glass room was wonderful. Now, if I could only get you up to my place to help out with my kitchen redesign!

Posted by Paul – September 14, 2006 8:33 AM

We were rooting for David the whole time, and we're excited to see his new show.

I was even more excited when a friend of mine from Cokato, MN told me that her sister went to school with David. During the whole show, I didn't know he was originally from MN, but now that I know that, I like him even more.

I think he should go to Cokato or Dassel, MN for one show and redo a room or house there. It would be fun to see.

Posted by Kevin – September 14, 2006 8:10 AM

Same as everyone else.....Congrats to David! I love his work.....also think Alice should have a show. They got along so well and seemed so genuine! Looking forward to more!

Posted by Jeanie – September 14, 2006 5:09 AM

What a fabulous show! It was fun to watch every week. I echo what everyone is saying, "David deserved to win but can't you find a place for Alice?" I LOVE ALICE! Such a genuine Texas sweetheart! To see such purity of heart and true rejoicing for the accomplishments of others is rare in life but unheard of on network TV, especially a reality show.

My wife & I are avid HGTV watchers and look forward to David's show but how about Alice on DTS? The new folks in Chicago are BORING!

Love your commercials Clive!

Posted by Don B – September 13, 2006 11:56 PM

I love both Alice and David. Congrats to David, but, please, please give Alice some opportunity at HGTV - she's so talented and I agree that you would not be smart to forget her, as your audience has certainly grown to love her.

Posted by Nita – September 13, 2006 9:21 PM

David,

Congratulations to you. I love that you are not only a designer you are an excellent artist. I am counting the days until your new show airs! HGTV is my addiction and I love Clive, he puts a smile on my face each time I see him. Again David you will be such a wonderful addition to the HGTV Lineup. Good luck from your fellow South Floridian!

Posted by Simone – September 13, 2006 8:56 PM

Congratulations fabulous job David, my whole family routed for you and we are in Barbados.

So when you get that show, you can make a trip to the Caribbean and make over my home.

Posted by Lisa – September 13, 2006 8:05 PM

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Alice is an amazing class act and David a wonderful designer.

I would like to suggest an idea for an episode for next year. I have enjoyed the expression of joy on the deserving people who get the Habitat for Humanity homes but I know there is never enough money to decorate them. I think giving them a dream room would be a fitting way to recognize their hard work in earning the house.

Posted by Linda – September 13, 2006 7:11 PM

This was the classiest "reality" show I have ever seen. Both finalists exhibited wonderful personal qualities as well as talent. When I first saw the commercials, I though David was awfully smug...but after the 1st show I realized he is a tremendous talent and I can't wait to see more from him. Alice is a cutie and I would much rather watch her than some other hosts on the network now. And Clive, he was a gentleman who proved that not all Englishmen are as callous as one particular one on another network. Great entertainment!

Posted by Mary – September 13, 2006 6:41 PM

Hi Clive,

Thanks for a wonderful show! You know, I hated having to pick between David and Alice because I loved them both and thought their personalities worked so well together. Wouldn't it have been great if you could have given them a show together. Hope we get to see Alice as a guest on David's show.

To David, congratulations handsome, you are extremely talented and I hope you get to set up shop in Miami soon.

Posted by John Carman - Miami, FL – September 13, 2006 6:40 PM

Great show ! ! !
Both David and Alice are winners. How could they not be. What a team they would make.

David better have Alice on as a partner.

One question ! ! What were those last three words in Davids final interview ? ?

Posted by John – September 13, 2006 6:37 PM

Clive,
Fabulous job on the hosting. Congratulations on your new citizenship as well.

I felt David deserved to win and I am glad he did. Alice was good competition but I felt David was faster on his feet at the creative process. His designs were just plain fabulous whereas Alice's efforts were just very good. I've seen several calls for HGTV to put Alice on a show with David but I believe he will come across with more impact on his own. I feel Alice would be good on a show because she has the presence for it, but something very different than I hope to see David on.

Congrats to both of them on the new cars. Good luck to both on their individual careers.

Looking forward to the next season.

It's become incredibly tiresome to see deserving people voted off of reality TV shows by their ruthless & nasty peers, or being the brunt of fingerpointing and backstabbing to impress "The Boss" - How refreshing to see a reality show where the top three are all the nicest people, and the top two truly are the most talented and deserving of the group.

Although I agree that David is the best (Congrats, Baby!) I hope that HGTV recognizes what a talent they have in Alice and that this isn't the last of her we see on TV.

If I could vote one person as most improved by the end of the show, that would be Temple - I think she showed her true goodness as a person when she helped David and Alice with their projects.

Tim would probably do very well on the DIY Network - Keep on after your dream man!

Clive - Great show, and I got some good laughs from the out-takes. Looking forward to sending in my audition for DesignStar II!

Congratulations David! Looking forward to your new show. Thought you would win all along.

Thanks Clive for your hosting abilities. You really made it a show I wanted to tune into each week. Looking forward to seeing you on the next Design Star. Now, if only you could do something about the D2S staff in Chicago.

It was interesting to hear that the judges did not see or hear the same things that we did. Now I understand why they voted the way they did.

Congrats to HGTV! You really pulled it off.

Posted by Julie – September 13, 2006 5:54 PM

Thanks HGTV for putting on such an exciting show. It was so much fun watching each week with my 9 year old daughter! She & I loved each episode. We're excited for David, but would love to see Alice with a show, too!

Posted by Amy – September 13, 2006 5:42 PM

Excellent show, looking forward to the next season. Alice was really good, but David had the edge, he has natural talent. I wish them both all the best. This is the best I have ever seen in reality TV. Way to go Clive.

Posted by Denise – September 13, 2006 5:06 PM

AWESOME JOB DAVID!! We, like others, were glued to the show to see the end. David has a talent like no other. His show will indeed be interesting and lend us all a new perspective on design! He wears a shirt - he doesn't wear a shirt. Drive down the road - the construction workers don't have their shirts on either - and they don't all have great bodies. When you get hot and you are a guy, that's just what you do. And....your six-pack was a great incentive to my son to keep working harder!! Your personality is so sweet and your approach to people and life is uplifting. You will definitely make families happy with your designs on your new design show.

Alice would make a great host on another show using her friendly voice and persona to communicate the message she is hosting about.

Clive and the judges - absolutely fantastic!! I love DTS but please take the new gal off and bring back Lisa LaPorta! I am glad the judges were honest (though some thought brutal) because after all corrective criticism only helps you to be one step further in this life.

Again CONGRATULATIONS David!!!

Posted by Bren – September 13, 2006 4:37 PM

Fabulous show. Really glad that there will be another season! David really did a fabulous job but; please get him a stylist. What a designer! Every task I thought he would be the winner. He was absolutely the hands down winner. Alice did a great job too but David just brought such vision to each task. The last task was brilliant on so many levels. David thought about seeing the space from outside and in. The two boxes, one in and one out. . .fabulous! Clive, you are just the best!

Posted by Mimi Powers – September 13, 2006 4:12 PM

I saw the final selection episode of the Designstar. At a glimpse,I know David will win because he is very natural in front of the camera and he loves what he is doing, which radiates from his whole personality. My prediction to you David,,this is only the start of a long journey of the your dream.....perhaps the next male version of Martha Stewart...don't get me wrong....should be a compliment what I mean is you will build your own household name brand that commands a classy design.
To Alice,I like her too...a sweetheart and talented too.HGTV should create a new show for you.....you're a diamond....on your own way.Congratulations to both of you....

Posted by Mylene – September 13, 2006 4:11 PM

Congrats to David. I loved both Alice and David from the very begining. They both worked well as teams and alone. I didn't vote because I could not decide. I hope to see Alice appear on HGTV too, maybe one of the other shows could use her help. I loved the show and cant wait until next years show.

Posted by Marla Broom – September 13, 2006 4:07 PM

Congrats David. My whole family voted for you. Glad to hear you will be having the show again Clive.

David when you get you show we would love to have you come to our house and help update it.

I love the show.
Love both David and Alice!!
Both are winners to me!!

I think If HGTY is smart that somewhere
down the road the ofter something to Alice
too.
I think Both Her And David so good that
they would be nuts to let either of them go.
I also think it be cool to see Alice and David
work together.
They were so cool together in the last event!!

Posted by Sj – September 13, 2006 3:42 PM

Clive -- It's always a pleasure watching you host a show. Your intelligence, honesty, humor and, most importantly, support for contestants make you the Design Star. I was so happy to see both David and Alice end up as the final two contestants. Granted, it all comes down to a matter of design taste as to who wins, but HGTV would be foolish not to have them both host the show, perhaps on alternate weeks: a real "Design for the Sexes" so-to-speak. Certainly as most people seem to have suggested, at least have Alice guest on your show. Listen to your audience, Clive, and you can't go wrong. Thanks again for quality TV. (Say hello to Lisa for me; she's a winner, too).

Posted by Jim Nugent – September 13, 2006 3:16 PM

Congratulations David!!! I knew from the first individual challenge that you were going to win! And, you present yourself so well!! Good job! I look forward to seeing you on HGTV(my favorite network)

Posted by Darlene – September 13, 2006 2:58 PM

David was definitly the star designer, with great style sense and flair and will of course be a success. However, I adore Alice in front of the camera, she is just such a natural. She would be just perfect on a southern type of design show. Coastal beach houses, etc, etc.... Give her a show too!!! All of us here in the low country would tune in.

Posted by Ann – September 13, 2006 2:54 PM

I agree with the majority of positive comments. Think this was one of the best reality shows in a longtime. Positive drama which kept me intently interested. High class all around. Well deserved finalists and winner. Would love to be a "project" on David's upcoming show for the sping. Keep me in mind!!! Just purchased a new condo and need all the help I can get!
Encore HGTV!

Posted by Curt – September 13, 2006 1:47 PM

Congratulations, David! This was a hard choice. I think both you and Alice are very talented and wish somehow you could have had a show together. I think you both would balance each other out in different areas.

HGTV, please find a way to get Alice a show!

David, Congratulations you won!!! You deserve it. when there were about to announce the winner my heart rate went high, dunno about you. Glad they announced your name.
Clive, he is the best host beyond my words.

I loved it when David ignored Vern's suggestion that he put a "spot of color" in that BEAUTIFUL Glass bedroom. I have never liked any of Vern's designs. David is tops. It was obvious from the first show.

Posted by Chris – September 13, 2006 12:17 PM

WOW! I have never seen anything like this, and am so glad you will be coming back next season. Clive, you were terrific, and along with the rest of America, I hope Alice will somehow find her way back into HGTV also. David's designs were so, so original, and I LOVE what he did with the pet store challenge. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Posted by Cora – September 13, 2006 11:41 AM

Even though I couldn't decide between both designers after the final challenge, I felt sad that Alice didn't win.

But now that it's all over, David, I wish you well on your new show.

Posted by Debbie – September 13, 2006 11:28 AM

Well done, David. Congratulations!!! You truly deserved it. I loved Alice too, and I really hope you will be inviting her to your shows. Both of you together will definitely make an ideal design team, with designs to perfection.

Can't wait to see more of your designs on HGTV.

BRAVO to the whole package! From the show format and choice of on screen talent (host AND judges) to the diverse group of designers who were able to actually produce the final product that they had conceived. Congrats to David and Alice who both showed enough talent, charm and manners to ensure that HGTV will have another opportunity to keep their camera crews and editors busy for many seasons to come. BRAVO, BRAVA and just plain JOB WELL DONE! to everyone... Party at my place when you come to San Francisco.

The whole show was awesome. I really enjoyed it. Hope to see more in the near future.

I believe that HGTV should definitely give Alice a program of her own. She is a one-in-a-lifetime combination of design talent, beauty, ethics, charm, and integrity. It is my belief that Alice modelled the correct demeanor for the group of competitors, with her tactfullness, compliments to others, and failure to complain. I suspect that the competitors eventually learned that the public really appreciated Alice's approach. I do not believe that it was an accident that the group finally changed their M.O. The viewing public feels personally attracted to Alice and she has a strong base of fans already. Perhaps she can be given a program in the state of her residence. I would love to have Alice work on my home! If you don't believe that "Southern sells," think of how popular the "Southern Living" magazine is. It covers everything from classic, traditional, modern, transitional, coastal living, cottage, urban, mountains, and even some desert-like areas. It's no wonder that Alice learned to be flexible in her designs. ALICE IS FABULOUS!

Congratulations to David--I'm looking forward to your new show--I feel we're friends! What a great idea HGTV had to build an audience for a new show!

By the way, did anyone else think the judges answer to Vanessa regarding their inconsistency in booting Joseph but not Temple as the captains of their respective teams was a bit lame?

I LOVED the car schtick. That was truly a surprise and they deserved it. I thought it was the classiest thing I have seen on reality TV in awhile. Congratulations to David and I love Alice. David made a comment about "coming out of the closet again" TELL me he's not gay. I would love to see him and Alice get together.

I would also like to say that I thought they were both genuine people and didn't put on airs. When David said he appreciated the help, I believe he truly did. That's what I especially liked about them both. They were genuine and believable. I will definitely watch his show.

I had such a hard time picking between David and Alice! Alas, I voted for David because I liked his glass house room the best. Although Alice's Tiffany box blue studio a few weeks ago was beautiful! I imagine though that we will see Alice do some kind of guest appearance on David's show--maybe Clive too??? Any show with Clive is a great one! Glad to see there are new eps. of DTS coming out! I just hope they are Clive/Lisa ones, as I prefer you two. Can't wait for more Design Star as well!

Congratulations, David! I loved Alice and David both! How wonderful that they ended up friends--I have a great amount of respect for both of them, both for their talent and for their character. I thought it was very classy that they were supportive of each other right up until the end of the show. I'm looking forward to David's show, but I'm going to miss Alice! Please find a way to keep her on HGTV in some way that showcases her talent and her wonderful warm personality.

Posted by Jacquelynn – September 13, 2006 12:05 AM

Clive is simply delightful as a host. I rarely miss DTS and think he was the perfect choice for Design Star. David's designs were always complete, elegant and impeccibly executed. He won my vote from the beginning with his imaginative Pet Store room. His enthusiasm and likeable personality are infectious. I think he nailed it on the final challenge! David - you are talent personified.

I want to be hugged someday the way David reacted to winning, then joyfully grabbed for Alice & looked like he'd never let her go ... and how his dad rushed the stage & swallowed him up in his own bear hug.

I have saved 200 people's union jobs, been a bride, won a state spelling bee & survived a fatal bus crash. Still, I've never experienced such an outpouring of joy & honest affection as flowed over that stage. Yet I have hope!

Beginning to end, that was one of the sweetest shows I've ever watched.

Posted by summerkid – September 12, 2006 9:28 PM

I am ashamed to say that I thought David and Alice were losers at first. I thought that Temple would win...However, over time, Alice and David's talent sparkled and I now see how talented they are. They really deserved to win. Congrats David, and wonderful job Alice, you and all the the other contestants are truly winners.

Posted by Queen – September 12, 2006 8:41 PM

Congratulations David. I am happy that you won!
Alice you were one of my favorites! I only wish you could of got the same thing David got.
I cant wait to see your show David!

Posted by Alfred – September 12, 2006 8:08 PM

So smooth and non-combative. An easy to like delivery, personality and ingenious designs; and by the way; the only one who deserved to win from the first episode. I voted for David every day, twice a day. To quote Vern: "a rock star performance."
David, please don't change a thing.
Alice, you gave it your best, you win against anyone else.
Congrats to all.

Alice and David were great, such great personalities and compassion for their work. I am just like some of the rest, I would love to see both of them win. I think they could work great together on shows. They seem to genuinely care about each other and that really did it for me. You dont see much of that. It was just great. Good luck to both of you.
Clive I just adore you. You are the best host, and Lisa LaPorta is a great designer. You both work great together.

Posted by Susan – September 12, 2006 6:55 PM

So much has been said about the Host and the winners (I think both Alice and David were winners from the beginning - no fighting, back stabbing, etc.) but very little has been said about the Judges. They were great. I loved seeing the finished products through their eyes. I wish I could have them come judge my home and give me pointers. Bring them back for the second season. Good Job all around. Ellen

Posted by Ellen – September 12, 2006 6:50 PM

Congratulations David, I was on my edge of my seat waiting for them to announce you the winner, you are an excellent designer and I enjoyed watching you pull your designs together.

To Alice, you are a wonderful designer and I wish they could have had a tie then we would be watching both of you in the spring. I wish you the best success in the future, who knows maybe HGTV can find room for you in the future.

To Clive, keep the good work you are a joy to watch and HGTV could not have picked a better Host. I watch HGTV everynight for hours and I have to say that watching design star was something I really looked forward to.

Posted by Sheila R. – September 12, 2006 6:44 PM

Congrats to David AND Alice! I loved you both....and I totally agree that HGTV should add Alice as a regular on David's new show. They have great on-camera chemistry & would be terrific working together on a show. I think they would complement each other beautifully.

I really enjoyed the Design Star series and look forward to the next season. Love, love, love Clive on any show (& commercials)! Looking forward to new episodes of DTS with Clive & that little design miracle worker Lisa LaPorta.

Posted by Jill – September 12, 2006 6:30 PM

As much as I loved David and think he deserved to win almost from the beginning, I hope you use Alice in something like another design to sell in the south. I think she would do a far better job than the other lady that is doing the alternate version (I love Lisa Laport - never let her go!)

And I also wanted to say - my 13 year old daughter is dying to see David's new show. With him, you have drawn in the next generation. I hope you can set up something that will appeal to them and I have no doubt she would appreciate as much of the no shirt policy as possible.

Posted by Kate – September 12, 2006 6:12 PM

I loved the show. I think the best designer was picked. I missed the final episode because we moved into a new house and had no cable that night. David did an absolutely awesome job for the the final design. Alice was great. I really liked her "Mancave" and she will go far in her career. Congrats David.

congrats to david. congrats to alice. i can't wait to see david's new show. hopefully alice will popup to cohost with david on more than one episode. clive you are my favorite tv host. please never leave your faithful viewers.

Congratulation to David. I can't wait to see what's up for you next. I will miss Alice, I really think she is just a sweetheart and what you see is what you get. Best of luck to her. And Clive I am a big fan of Design to Sell. So I will see you soon!! Thanks for a great show HGTV. Malaina

Posted by malaina – September 12, 2006 4:23 PM

David - Congratulations, you're THE BEST! I'm serious about you working on my mom's place, when I buy it for her. Clive, I ADORE YOU BEYOND WORDS & couldn't see anyone else hosting DesignStar. Alice, hope to see you "visit" David's show once in awhile. Stay well...

Posted by Roberta – September 12, 2006 3:51 PM

Congrats to David-he is a wonderful designer with great taste and impeccible skill. I think he will be a fresh new face to add to the already great hosts on HGTV. Although I was rooting for and voted for David-I do think Alice should stay around somewhere-maybe a guest designer on one of the shows? She's really beautiful and very warm. I'll miss her if I don't see her again!

Clive,

Wonderful show!! I was so sorry to see it end, but I'm looking forward to next season. I LOVE it!
First, congratulations to both David & Alice. I wish they could both have won!
Second, I just finally watched the audition videos. Based on those, Joseph and Tym stand out. They actually showed some of their work. As much as I love David, I am suprised he was chosen. And I won't even say what I thought of Temple's video.

Keep up the great work Clive! I love DTS! Lisa LaProta is a Genius!

I love this show, and watched it faithly every week. Keep up the great work....

P.S I have not read any of the bio's on the contastants, however is there anyone out there besides me that thinks, David and Alice would make a lovely couple.

Posted by Lee Ann – September 12, 2006 1:08 PM

Wow, I loved this show, and I hope HGTV does it again next year with a new group of designers!

I am so pleased that David won, although I would have been just as happy if Alice had won. David was superior in designing, and Alice was fantastic as a TV host! To me, they are both winners, and I hope that we see Alice again. She has such a warm, friendly personality, I look forward to seeing her on another HGTV show.

Best of luck to David, I will definately be watching your new show when it premieres!

Posted by Pixie – September 12, 2006 12:46 PM

Congratulations David. You were the best but I think Alice deserves a spot on your show. You two work well together and hopefully HGTV will offer her a spot on your new show.

Posted by Dolly Nicole – September 12, 2006 12:42 PM

Job Well Done, HGTV! It was so refreshing to see people with principles rise to the top. If you REALLY want a homerun next time, don't try to find the usual cast with a wierdo, a cut-throat, a princess, etc. Just look for talented, real designers who are people of honor, and give them challenges. America is hungry for that - especially the creative people who watch your network.

Clive is endearing, funny and genuine. David's artistic ability, work ethic, organizational skills and design sense were superior. Good luck to Alice, in all she does.

My husband and I really enjoyed watching Design Star from beginning to end! We were in Durango, CO when the final night came and the winner announced. We found the HGTV channel in our hotel and were so happy we could see the final episode. We both agreed that David and Alice deserved to be the finalists. It's too bad there can't be 2 winners; however, CONGRATULATIONS DAVID and GOOD JOB Alice! Clive, you are a WONDERFUL and entertaining host and we're so glad your "show has not been cancelled"!

Posted by Melinda – September 12, 2006 12:36 PM

The final two contestants were supurb. I did vote for David, however. I am anxious to view his first show. When David and Alice were finishing their designated project, I must admit I became apprehensive about the time element and whether they would complete it in time. My congrats to the final two and to HGTV for creating a pleasurable show.
As for Clive, he was an asset to the show.

Posted by Esther – September 12, 2006 11:30 AM

Congratulations to David. My daughter and I have watched each episode and David and Alice were our favorites from the very beginning. We only wish both of them could have won--a co-hosted show. Besides their great gift of design, their personalities just sparkled. Each of them showed poise and confidence in all episodes even when they each thought they would be going home. Congratulations to both David and Alice for making it to the top and we will be looking forward to David's new show.

To the bloggers telling David to keep his shirt on, I have but one thing to say: Are you kidding me?!! If you've got it, flaunt it. And this one has beauty that is only matched by his design talent. Design is sexy, so why shy away from it. Congratulations! I look forward to your show. I hope the concept for the show is as innovative as your designs. And, by the way, I adore Alice too. She and David are both gorgeous beyond words, and she's such a sweetheart. My partner and I had to replay the tape over and over when she said, "It's bad ... it's bad." LOVE her! Great show, Clive! You have really emerged as the face of HGTV.

Yayyyyy! I'm so glad David won, he deserves a show because he is so talented - and what charisma! Good luck, I hope your new show goes well....

Congratulations David!! Your work was awesome. My wife and I were truly amazed at your consistency from week to week. As the eliminations progressed, your work improved as well. Best of luck on your new show. We can't wait to see it.
Congratulations, too, to Alice. You are an amazing designer. Like David, your work got better as time passed by. You have a tremendous career ahead of you. You are empathetic, a great listener, a truly tender-hearted woman with a vision. While I knew that David would win the final competition, I was hoping that somehow the two of you would be co-winners, and so be co-hosts together. Ah, well . . . Best of luck to you in your career!

Good job Clive for your attitude towards the contestants. What I liked the most about the show is good manners (I hated that Hell's kitchen show because treating badly the contestants is not a good idea).
Congratulations David and Alice for being the best finalists. I am looking forward to the 2nd Design Star show. I also love HGTV my favorite channel.

Clive, what a wonderful show!!! I was riveted to my sofa and at the end, when David was announced....I cried. I was so moved by the whole experience of DesignStars. You've got a winner on your hands!!! To David...congratulations and best of luck. You're truly a brilliant designer and so genuine a person. I look forward to watching your show in the Spring.

I am not much for watching tv. except for HGTV! Everything always seems upbeat and happy on all the shows. I want to express my thanks for the brilliant idea of "Design Star". This was an awesomely wonderful show with maximum suspense! I give it an A++++++. Clive did an excellent job of hosting. I watch anything he hosts. (Dearly Love His Commercials Too)! My GRATZ go to David, he is a remarkable designer. I didn't vote for the simple fact that I didn't want to seem disloyal to either David or Alice. That sounds silly I guess, but they are both such wonderful people that I just fell in love with their sweet personalities. Clive, you're a sweetheart, and a joy to watch. I'm looking forward to another season with you and a new and upcoming Design Star. God bless you all, you have made an old lady very happy!

This was a very entertaining series. The host, and the judges, and the contestants, were all a tribute to the integrity of HGTV. The winners deserved their tribute.

David is simply stunning, both in raw talent, and in his ability to buckle down and work until the job is complete. He is a charming perfectionist; a rare combination.

I hope that HGTV will eventually develop a show devoted to expectant women and young mothers, and feature Alice as the host. She has such compassion and emphathy with young women and small children, and she would be a natural host to young women as they become mothers.

Clive will be part of our lives for many years to come, for the simple reason that he is real. There are not enough real people on telly, which is why we cherish the "Clive's" of this world.

At last a show that proves that you don't have to be "cut throat", hateful or nasty to be competitive. I hate reality TV - if I want to see and hear all of that garbage all I have to do is listen to the news. My sister told me about the show or I never would have watched it, I think the season was about half over when I started watching and I am so glad that I did. The talent and creativity was awesome and a joy to watch. David and Alice were both outstanding and either one deserved to win. Actually HGTV if you are really smart you will offer both of them a show - not co-hosts but a show of their own. I truely admired Alice and I think she is to be applauded for her example. In my opinion they are both winners.

Posted by Connie – September 12, 2006 3:56 AM

I loved both David and Alice as designers and either one deserves to win. However, Alice has such a wonderful personna about her and I believe she would make a natural and appealing hostess. She has such a great way with words and if HGTV is not going to use her, then I hope TLC snaps her up! She is unique and I am sure there are many producers out there who would love to put her under contract. I am almost positive we will be seeing Alice again - even if it is on another network!

Clive - It was fun to see you in a new role that allowed you to stretch and grow your hosting skills. Each week it looked like you were more and more comfortable with your various interactions with the design stars. I was glad to learn you will be extended with a 2nd season of hosting the Design Star.

I would encourage HGTV to consider you for other opportunities. You always have a fresh way of looking at situations and making people feel comfortable talking with you.

1. Love HGTV - it's the best!
2. Clive is a wonderful host - with his glint of mischiveness ("Clively copter"!)
3. Loved the premise of the show - but felt time constraints were somewhat impractical (it takes me a month to select one paint color!)
4. Next season's show should have all experienced designers (not some with 20 years vs none to even the playing field)
5. David and Alice were both such class acts, aside from their designing challenges / accomplishments, they were simply delightful, so heartwarming / gracious and just plain "fun" to watch. Their humor, understanding, and interactions were made for TV.
6. There are both beautiful and talentedc people. Congrats and best wishes to them both.
7. American needs more people like them!
8. Thank you for being part of our lives on Sunday evening!

CONGRADUATIONS...DAVID!!!!!!I was hoping and praying that you be the next Design Star because you were the better Designer! I take my hat off to Alice, too! Clive, I love your show, you have a great personality and charima. I enjoy seeing you on "Design to Sell"! I enjoy your wonderful voice. The judges were great! Design Star is a terrific show!! May our Father in heaven to bless each of you richly.

CONGRATS DAVID!!!! I had everyone voting for you. I remember you from the arty parties at urban think back in Orlando where Shelby introduced us. I was so sad when you told me you were moving to Miami because my face would light up every time I ran into you but it seems like things worked out for the best. You are so sweet, genuine and talented and I am glad that the David on design star was the same David I met a few years ago. You are so deserving of this opportunity and I am honored to have been in your presence.

I adored Alice and I think that she and Tym would make excellent guest stars on your show.

Congrats again and I can't think of anyone who deserved this more that you:-)

Looking forward to your show! Once I buy a place in nyc, maybe I can be an episode hahahahaha

All the best to you and the rest of teh contestants!!!!

Congratulations to HGTV. You have inspired new generations of designers. Thank you for a breathtaking series. I am not a profesional anything so I am unable to comment on anyone's expertise, but I was awed by the shere creativity displayed each week
I noticed most of the posts were from women so I had to write. I thought it was inappropriate (however practical) for the clothing to come off. Alice did not have that opportunity ( though I would have loved it). I must be honest- I wanted Alice because I liked how she looked (sorry David). I also believe that if many of the women were honest, they would say the same about David. There may have been skill also, I am in no position to comment on that. I just knew they were very pleasant to watch.
Finally, I felt Tym was treated unjustly. His carpenter was a JERK. I hope he gets another shot- or more. Keep it coming- I have alot to learn.

Congratulations to David for winning Design Star, his talent stood out right from the start. Alice deserved to be in the finals as well. Congratulations to her for giving David a run for the money and making the final choice a difficult one. I hope HGTV pays attention to all the Alice fans who have said it would be a shame to let her slip through their fingers.

I'm glad to hear that there will be a Design Star 2 and that you will be hosting. You are an excellent host both on DS and Designed to Sell. Love your sense of humor and witty comments.

Someone had a bright idea about having Lisa LaPorta as one of the judges on DS2.

I really like both Alice and David the best from the beginning. Moreso for their Character and charm, their talents being a plus! I voted once for David and once for Alice. I thought David executed every task in a more professional manner and every detail was right on! Alice I thought of as being a great friend. I thought they each had something different to offer....too bad they couldn't have had a joint show, they got along so well! Good luck to all the contestants with their futures...I admired their courage and effort.

You are our Design star! I can't wait to watch your show, and get design ideas from your design. Looking forward of watching your show and hopefully you and Alice will have a show together. The judges, really made the right decision, you and Alice are deserving finalist. Clive, you rock! I hope you will have more shows on HGTV.

While a design competition show COULD have been as boring as watching the proverbial paint dry, I tuned into the first show to see Vern Yip and became engrossed from the start. I do have to say I was always pulling for David- his Ringling training gave him a HUGE step up on the competitors in my estimation...his final room was truly a work of art.

I'm more than a little sad that Alice did not win. She added such a pratical side of designing to HTGV. David is quite a stud, but finding a designer who has heart and sould is great too.

Posted by Phyllis – September 11, 2006 11:21 PM

Clive; Great job, I think both Alice and David challenged each other and both are well deserving of their winnings. Love that Vern!
Best of luck on next season. Judy Girard does know what a great host you are! She would never cancel this show:) It was a success!!! Can't wait til next season...... Until next time. Thanks for the suspense!!!

Congratulations again David and keep rocking the design world Alice!!!

Clive you always are a class act, keep up the great work!

I voted for Alice, but was glad to see David win. Both are very talented. It's so nice to have HGTV - it's my favorite channel. How great it is to finally have something to get back at my husband for all those hours he spent in front of the TV watching sports! He always rolls his eyes and says, "please, do we have to watch HGTV again???"

I thought both designers were very talented. David's designs were always similiar though. He seems to be a one concept desinger. ALice at least showed some variety. Will give his show a shot but I am not looking as forward to it as I would ALice's. They should co-host a show. It would probably be better.

Wow!!!! what a finale, all day long I was anxious like kid waiting for Santa. When the winner was finally anounced, my husband and I jumped for My favorite won!!! Although I must say that I enjoyed Alice also, but felt that David took a step farther. I hope all goes well with her, she has a great personality and I am sure that her life will change beyond her expectations. Then reality hit and all that preparation like you do for your kids in Christmas day and then the presents are openned and you realize, boom just like that is gone. I was sad that it was over, but happy at the turn out, I can't wait until the next show!!!!! loved Clive and the judges, also all of the contestants. It is true that they have courage, I am not sure that I could leave myself open to be judged in front of America, good luck to ll, and to all a good show.LOL. Brenda Lee.

CONGRATULATIONS, DAVID -- YOU ROCK!!! And, so do you, Clive :-)

Great show. Great concept. Really looking forward to the "Making of a Design Star" and of course, David's new show next Spring.

As for Alice, she is a gracious runner up and I hope being on the show boosts her career. Is it possible to use her as a designer on Designing for the Sexes? I have seen Lisa LaPorta and Kenneth Brown on there. Maybe she could do one :-) Or, maybe try her out on Designers Challenge. I'd really love to see what she could do with a decent budget, schedule and lots of helpers!

Clive - So glad to hear your work was judged superior and you have moved on to the next season ;-) Hopefully the lessons learned during the first season will make season #2 all the better!

Cheers!!

CONGRATS DAVID!!!! I was so tickled to see that you won. I love Alice, but truly do think Davids talent is amazing.....hmm....by the way, I have a wonderful son & his partner (wonderful too) who live in San Francisco in a studio apartment that definitely needs some fine tuning. Neither one of the boys is particularly talented at putting it together. However, they are very personable & photogenic, so they would make fab guests!!!! Maybe David's first season he could take pity on my sweet son & son in law and decorate their cute studio?
(:REALLY, I AM NOT A MEDDLING MOTHER IN LAW!!!:)

AND CLIVE...Thanks so much for a very engaging show. I actually love all your shows. Keep up the great work kid! Julie

'Designed to Sell' is a favorite of mine. About 50% of my T.V.viewing is spent on the HGTV network. Design star kept me virtually clued to the tube.

I was hoping last night that,on the show, it would be announced that another 'Design Star' show would be on next year. I'm glad I came back to the web site tonight!

As for David, I can't wait to see his show.

Alice is a gem too and I haven't given up hope that she'll find a place with the network.

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID? I'm so happy for you. You are a great talent in addition to being a class act. That's a rare combination in today's world. I put Alice in that category as well. I wish both of you could have won but that was not to be. She was a winner in her own right. Alice will fare well as I'm sure someone will approach her for some type of show of her own. With her grace and classiness and poise in front of a camera she will go places and do well. Love ya guys. How did you like your short visit in my state of Washington. I live up by the Mountain (Rainier).

David - congrats on a stupendous job. Can't wait to see the new show. I wasn't sure how you'd top the pet store room, but you did it with the zen bedroom. Out of all the rooms I've seen on various design shows, those two rooms are amongst my top 10 favorites.

Alice - somehow I doubt this will be the last we see of you. You are an amazing designer and I believe the best is yet to come for you.

Clive - very much looking forward to seeing you and your paint cans once again!!

I'm sooooooooooooo happy David is the winner. He's the most talented, super sweet and perfect for the design star. He's really serius on his design. He always happy and smile.

Clive, you are my most favorite host. You are just sincere and not phony. I like you and Lisa laporta :)

Posted by Suzana – September 11, 2006 9:33 PM

So happy David won. It was a well deserved win. He was (by far!!!) the best of them all. Alice and Tym were good too but their creations couldn't come close to those of David's. Congrats to the enormoously talented David and looking forward to watching his own HGTV show.

I am so glad David won! I liked Alice too, but David incorporated so much personal artistic talent in his designs which I loved.

I watch but converse with family members who are not in my area, and we all voted for David.

One point: I am a huge Project Runway fan and watch every Weds. with a group....and am always happy if they are too vocal, that I can watch the rerun the next morning by myself. I wanted to do that today with DesgnStar, but alas, you don't do reruns! Please think about that next season.

Some final comments about the show:

Ramona: Two words: MENTAL INSTITUTION. I'm sure your plastered vacuum would make a nice addition to their art collection.

Joseph: I totally wish you could have stayed longer. It would have been fun to see what you could do. Unfortunately, as the team leader, you took the hit.

Vanessa: Grow up. Glamallistic? HELLO? What made you think you were so good and could take the credit for everything? Learn to have a little less ego and a lot more style.

Teman: I'm sorry you got eliminated. Your room was actually better than your brother's that time, but they couldn't have eliminated BOTH of the people who did the "Beauty" room or it would have been unfair.

Teran: From what I could see of your "Kitchen" design, it wasn't that bad. You just got too nervous and didn't explain things to the homeowners.

Donna: If you had tried to help Temple more and try to work with her, you probably would have been in the "Final Four". That was the only thing you did wrong.

Temple: Did you get that "Automotive" room from somewhere else? It sure looked it. Your "Yellow" room was lousy, and the kitchen wasn't what you promised.

Tym: As Vern said, wasted potential. You took your designs too literally, especially in the "Green" room.

Alice: You're a WONDERFUL designer, Alice. Your accent is TOO CUTE!!! Unfortunately, you never really thought outside the box. You'll go far, though.

David: Your designs are good, but are too bold for me. Good luck on your new show, anyway!

And last, but certainly not least, Mr. Clive Pearse: You are wonderful as a host! Your accent is adorable. I have the accent, too! Come back for next season!

Congratulations, David!! I watched all the shows...and loved everyone of them. I'm a huge HGTV fan. I watch a lot of the shows. I'm continually surprised at how often I end up loving a show that at first glance I think I won't like. This was one of them. But it was so well done, edited, that I was hooked after the first show. I was rooting for you and Alice from the very beginning. Your personalities and design styles I like a lot. I was hoping at the very end that the producers would suprise us and give both of you one show where you would be co-hosts!!! I still think that would have been fun too. I can't wait to see what format concept your show will be, David. The very best to all the runners up too, especially Alice. Maybe we'll see her pop up on one of the HGTV shows now and then? Yea!!, Clive that you'll be back with another suspense thriller....

I really wanted Alice to win - but I like David a lot too. The show was great. Glad to hear they are coming back with Design Star 2. Clive, you are a great host. I also enjoy watching you on Design to Sell. I have used many tips to help my home show beautifully during our Open Houses.

David won me over on the Pet Store challenge. Up until that episode I was thinking they were all pretty much evenly matched. However, that episode proved to me how far superior he was! I actually voted both by text message and online which is something I don't normally do with reality shows. I didn't want to feel partly responsible if he didn't win because I was too lazy to do all I could via text message and online voting, so I made it my mission to not let him down. CONGRATS David, I can't wait to watch.

David, is a Great designer. He is very gifted and I really liked watching him to see what he could come up with. I am so glad he won!! Congrats!!

Alice, I wish you all the luck, I know we will be seeing you.

Posted by Margaret – September 11, 2006 8:32 PM

Thank you David for finally realizing the camera is your friend. I was so worried that the camera would be what lost you the contest, since it was two part. Your talent was above everyones. I never watch reality shows either but I was glued to this one. Way to go HGTV!!!

Posted by Danna – September 11, 2006 8:22 PM

This show was so much fun. I didn't miss a single episode and watched quite a few of the reruns.

Big congratulations to David. He was definitely my choice to win. His designs are awesome. What a talent. It will be interesting to see his new show.

Clive, you have been half the fun of watching the show. I've always enjoyed your "Designed to Sell" show and it has been great fun to watch you here, too.

David , we enjoyed the show and your style. We look forward to seeing your show and more of your style. We Live in Florida, so if you make it close to home stop by we have plenty of work for you.

First there were 10 and then 2. How exciting to watch all the episode's.

An Incredibly Handsome Nice Man paired to an Incredibly Beautiful Nice Woman. How Utterly Fantastic.

Congratulations David, looking forwarding to seeing more of your talent! And Alice, looking forward to seeing you host something on HGTV...

Thank you Clive for being such a Magnificent Host as always.

I want to move into the bedroom David created in the final challenge. It was a WOW!

Posted by Linda – September 11, 2006 8:06 PM

David was unquestionably the best designer.

But in the future...please leave your shirt on

Posted by georgie – September 11, 2006 7:58 PM

Just a thought. Clive, I was hoping that when you announced the winning designer he would have achieved full professional status and be called not just David, but David Bromstad. I know it is hard for the public to remember even first names, but at least the last three: Tym DeSanto, Alice Fakier, and David Bromstad should have been called by their fun names. You and the judges are listed that way on the wedsite banner.

David...I'm so very HAPPY you won! My heart was pounding out of my chest...as Clive opened the envelope...it's been a joyful, as well as an emotional experience to share in your journey on the "DesignStar Show". Love your design sense and style..YOU'RE AWESOME!! Can't wait for your show to start in 2007. God Bless You!

Sincerely,
David

David, I am so thrilled for you. I had you picked from the 1st show. You have a great personality. I'm really looking forward to see you blossom into one of the top HGTV host.! You were great!!

Great show. My entire family was hooked from the start...everyone Sunday night we'd all sit in front of the tv and watch! Congratulations David, you were awesome. Alice you were too! Great show HGTV from your #1 fan!

The only "reality" show I watch is "The Amazing Race", that is until now. I have enjoyed the fact that no one was torn apart by the judges or voted out by their piers. This show in my opinion was handled with class and certainly with talent.I want to congratulate David on winning his own new show! I also want to congratulate Alice on her poise, talent and most of all her integrity! I truly believe she was happy for David and that they are friends. I loved the way they never seemed to try to be undermining the other one but in fact seemed to support their opposition. Thank all of the contestants for making this show one I looked forward to each Sunday.

I do wish Alice could find her place on televion as she is, as one judge put it "television is your calling, you absolutely are TV material". I realize that David won the right to his own show, however if HGTV lets Alice get away then they will be the losers.

Thanks again for such a classy show and just as classy a moderater. I think Clive was just the right person to take on this journey as he seemed to care about the contestants without showing favor. I also love his sense of humor!

All in all, THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL SHOW and congratulations to both David and Alice. I hope they will get to read some of the praise they earned.

Wow, I have never seen more down to earth contestants for any competition - at least not on TV! It was amazing how both of the final two competitors were sooo down to earth, and so genuine about their work, and so loyal to one another as friends! I mean, most people can't wait to just run over the people they're up against, but I saw that David and Alice had not just the talent, but the REAL personalities to deserve their spots up there!

Dave really was my pick - I thought his designs were SO amazing. You wouldn't believe he designed kids' rooms for a living! I mean, all of them were so sophisticated, clean, creative - just amazing! I was reeeeeeally hoping he'd win, so CONGRATS to you, Dave!

As for Alice, she was sooo sweet - she never welcomed anyone with anything less than a GREAT BIG smile, and super kind words and guestures. She had talent and grace, and real design skills too, and I think if there was to be a show for "America's Sweetheart," she could win! (; So, GREAT WORK Alice, too! :)

Congrats to both of you - and I totally second (or third or fourth) the opinion that Alice should co-host a show with Dave! :)

CONGRATS DAVID!!! I am so glad you won, especially since I had the whole office voting for you. Just want to say that you have very articulate design concepts & it shows in your finished rooms, even down to every rock, stone & pebble. Kudos to your free spirit, energy and cool designs week after week. You truly were the most creative designer and can definitely think outside the box. Alice may have been the better host for a while, but you have showed confidence and poise on the final competition that you too can host your own show just as well, if not better.

Clive, you are an excellent host. I love watching your show 'Designed to Sell' with Lisa LaPorta.

Like everyone else, I look forward to seeing both your new shows.

Posted by Calyn – September 11, 2006 7:00 PM

Congratulations David! I loved all of David's designs and for once my husband and I both agreed on who the winner should be.

Glad to hear that Clive's going to be back. We've loved watching Clive on this show and have always enjoyed him on the "Sell this House" episodes.

We thoroughly enjoyed each week's episode and really got hooked -- on bring on the second season FAST! Thanks HGTV for an enjoyable show during the pre-Fall season.

Congratulations to David
on winning your own show and starting your new career! You have great taste and are a wonderful person .

Clive,
I love watching you on Design to Sell. I never miss any of this shows and to me you are the best host, can't wait to see more of you hosting HGTV, any plan of coming to Hawaii to do a show, you are welcome to do my house.

I am so glad David won. He really deserved it. In my opinion, he and Tym had the most raw talent, but there was no denying Alice's charm. I really enjoyed David's skill and creativity. I would like to see more design contestants with backgrounds comparable to David's. With his training in the arts, it seemed almost unfair to place him against people with little or no professional training(Temple)I know that I would love to see full time professional designers and artists compete. I mean no disrespect toward any of the contestants, and I know that they were probably chosen because of their character traits and diverse personalities. There should be a minimum of talent and training before they are even considered. And no, posing nude under a fur throw doesn't count. With that said, I loved the show, and I think that you(Clive) do a wonderful job with everything you do. And how about Michael Payne or Lisa Laporta as judges next year? Talk about the best of both worlds!

Posted by diana sanders – September 11, 2006 6:51 PM

Congratulations to David. But how about a show for Alice too? She is talented, works well with others and has a warm personality.

Posted by Kathy Nugent – September 11, 2006 6:41 PM

Never ever watch reality shows - BUT this one is and was tops!!! I am proud to say that I chose the one to leave each week. I love both Alice and David - and agree with others that Alice would be great as a co-host or guest on some of David's shows. He is an AWESOME person (so sincere) and a wonderful designer. Can't wait for his show AND will wait (not too patiently) for the next Design Star show! My FAVORITE and, really, only TV channel! Clive, you are a joy! God Bless you, David; and all of you.

Posted by Rene – September 11, 2006 6:35 PM

Awesome!! Job well done, Clive. You are a 'family friend' across the world!!! As for David - Many HAPPY RETURNS of his fantastic WINNING day!! He well deserved his contract! I can't believe we actually voted for AND got the winner!!! YEEEEEE HAWWWWWW!! Looking forward to watching every second of every episode of David's show. If I were to have my home decorated, David would be chosen to do it. (Yeah, if I were a millionaire and could afford HIM NOW!!) :) :) Thanx to Clive, judges and contestants for weeks of intense shows and just perfect entertainment. GOTTA LOVE HGTV!! :)

Posted by Penny – September 11, 2006 6:27 PM

I really enjoyed watching the show (although I came it late and caught up with the repeats!). I was very torn between David and Alice...I really liked both of them. Congratulations to David and best of luck to Alice.

Clive, I really like your Designed to Sell commercials. You rock too!

Like some other people, I got hooked at the last minute: the final weekend marathon. I had seen one or two episodes before but I was glued to the TV for that marathon, and even my husband got interested. This was a fun, compelling series and I am thrilled there is going to be a Season 2! I would be interested, next season, to see what would happen on the final challenge if we didn't hear the judges' comments before the voting. I don't think it would have changed the results necessarily but it would have been interesting. Also looking forward to David's show and congratulations to Alice and all the designers for their hard work. Thank you HGTV!

Posted by Katie – September 11, 2006 6:25 PM

To David: congratulations. you deserve to win.such gorgeous work you did week after week. Can you redo one of my rooms? To clive the best host on hgtv. keep up the great work.

Posted by christina – September 11, 2006 6:23 PM

I was realllllly upset, I missed the last show! I voted for David. He was THE very best designer and deserved to win. Alice was good, but David was the clear winner. Congratulations! Loved the show!

Posted by Sheryl – September 11, 2006 6:12 PM

Well, I went to preview my note and it was blank. I'm a nerd when it comes to computer stuff. But I'm a wanna be designer. And, I wanna design like David! Congratulations David!! My husband and I had our fingers crossed for you. You are talented, witty, and very caring. I can't wait to see your new show. I LOVED the "pet store" room. Wow! And your zen room has me doing flips trying to turn my bedroom into a zen room. So inspiring. And the judge was wrong. You didn't need a splash of bright color. The room was PERFECT in every way.
Clive, you were the perfect host and I love watching you (and Lisa) on Design to Sell. Please stay with that show. You two make it great. Can't wait to see David's show in the spring. Maybe Alice could guest star. But I disagree with others who think they should co-host. David won fair and square. But David and Alice are really cute together.

Posted by Linda – September 11, 2006 6:10 PM

OMG!!! I was totally hooked from the begining. I love HGTV, as any of my friends will gladly confirm, so no surprise that Design Star was a Sunday night must see.

And big kudos to all of the participants. They gave me plenty of smiles and even some good ideas but I'm thrilled that my favorite (i.e.David!) was the winner. A pure genius.

Keep up the fabulous programming HGTV. And I'm a
