Well, we've reached the end of our journey, and while it's a bit sad that it's over, this episode was all about celebration, and rightly so.
An amazing dream has come true, and you made it happen, America. Your votes chose the new Design Star. Congratulations, David!
It was wonderful to see all the designers again (now looking well-rested and quite fabulous). For each one, the show was a life-changing experience and they all seemed thrilled about turning into celebrities! I was impressed with everyone's poise and presence on camera. It seems like only yesterday that I was standing in an empty New York townhouse in front of some very nervous people!

I loved doing the final show in front of a studio audience; the energy was amazing, and everyone loved the clips from the series. We had some fun with it, and I thought all the designers really were good sports about some of the gentle ribbing we passed out. They all behaved like stars!
I must say, it was thrilling to play game-show host and give away the Mercury Mariners. It was nice that neither David nor Alice walked away empty-handed. They both had worked so hard and done such a great job. (I will admit to a bit of devilish glee at their expressions when I brought those paint cans out for one last time!)
The incredible final moment of the announcement was made even more special by the appearance of the President of HGTV, Judy Girard. When she handed me that contract, I must admit to some nerves of my own. I TRULY had no idea whose name was inside! When I opened it, I read and re-read it several times, to make sure I had it right. Not a time when you want to make a mistake!

The reaction was tremendous, and it was a wonderful moment celebrating the launching of David's new career. Most TV hopefuls go through months and even years of endless effort before they get their big break, and I know he realizes what an amazing opportunity this is. I can't wait to see his new show!

I wanted to take one more opportunity to thank everyone for the kind comments after these blogs (I have read every single one of them), and the thousands of e-mails that have poured in through my website,
www.clivepearse.com.
When you begin a new show, you can never be sure how the public will react, but I must say that this reaction has been fantastic. Your support means everything; after all, without you, there would be no shows!
I want to sign off with one final bit of good news. There have been some rumors flying around, and I have some confirmation. After the show, HGTV President, Judy Girard, pulled me aside and said: "Congratulations, Clive. Your show has NOT been cancelled! There will be a Design Star season two!" That was wonderful to hear — so keep checking HGTV.com for details on how to apply. I know you will join me next year as we search for another talented designer to be the next Design Star. Thanks for watching!

Clive, you are a Class Act!!!! I love your witty remarks. Love the Design to Sell show with Lisa Laporte and Love the commercials both of you are doing. HGTV is my favorite show. Watch it all the time. Was SOOOOOOOO happy that David won. I love Alice as well, such a Classy Lady and hope to see her again. David, congrats with your new design show! Can't wait for it to get started and am so happy to hear that Clive will remain with HGTV. I too watch all the re-runs of Design to Sell and love the ones with Clive and Lisa the best. But we have to give the other team a chance! Once we get used to them I'm sure we will learn to love them as well!
Again, David, I wish you much success with your own brand-new design show, love what you have done sofar!!!!! Keep up the good work!

Design star was amazing! I've never gotten so in to a reality series until now. Absolutely fantastic all around. I was also blown away and excited Clive was the host! Great work everyone! I can't wait for next season!
I'm REALLY curious about David's show. Is there a title yet? I was going crazy when he won because no one told us what to look for from David! I guess I’ll just have to wait and see!
Here's one HDTV addict saying thanks for an amazing season!

Congratulations to David. Though I have to admit, I was hoping for a twist: For David and Alice to have a show together.

i have only caught some episodes but i loved the show. and i tried to keep up through the hgtv website. i knew from the start that it would be david. he has this x factor for excellence. and his character is awesome, too. i have rooted for him since the start because he also looked like my brother. ha ha...
i also liked alice. she's a nice gal and talented, too. but david certainly edged her out in terms of talent and imagination.
it showed on tv that they are both good human beings.
looking forward to david's show next year and the next season!!!

Congratulations to both Alice and David ... what an immense pool of talent between the both of them! Both are winners in their own right because both have reached the finale with two very different styles; maybe on a different day, it would have gone Alice's way, but all the same, David's victory was well deserved! Great job, David. They both represented themselves so well!

Watched every episode and even the reruns.....David your designs were awesome. Alice your talent and personality truly shined. I think HGTV should do a show with both of them. Their design styles compliment each other. Can't wait till next season.

Hi,
David and Alice were fantastic contestants and very talented! I had a hard time choosing between them. I'm glad David won. I hope He and Alice will get together in the spring, to host a show.
Thanks Clive for being so funny, and entertaining! I love Designed to Sell, and loved Design Star!

It's been refreshing for the past weeks to watch a truly down-to-earth TV show like DesignStar.
Thanks to HGTV and to you, Clive, for your quips and hosting abilities. You kept it light, funny, and entertaining.
David and Alice, Tym and Temple are all stars! Each have exceptional talents.
This blog and the viewer's ability to be part of the process was just fantastic too.

I just wanted to say that, as a designer myself and an avid HGTV fan, I loved the show. Both David and Alice are great talents and both deserved to be the final one. David's zen room was just fantastic and he deserved the win and the praise that he has received. I loved Alice's work and I hope that she will continue to do the great designs that she has displayed in the past. I look forawrd to the next season to see more of the bright talents that can be found in this country.

Am definitely glad that David won, he is truly a great design talent. I am looking forward to watching his show.
The last episode could have been better. The Game Show format was pointless, as was brining back the other contestants. With the exception of Tym - who missed them? That whole Q&A with the judges was so fake. If Vanessa hadn't been given a question to ask, she seems like the type who would have grabbed the spotlight to try and explain/pretend like she didn't steal the credit for someone else's (probably David) design. The other episodes set the bar so high that this one was just silly and anti-climactic. Only David's tears at the end seemed genuine and saved the entire show from the abyss.
Next year (and I am DELIGTHED that there will be a next year) keep the show on longer. Vote people out one at a time or have a larger group of designers if you want weeks where two people get their shows cancelled. And don't insult the audiences intellect with "contestants" like Ramona. I have watched just enough reality tv to recognize that set-up: bring in a kook with absolutely no talent so you can get rid of them fast while you figure out what you like about the real contestants.
Thanks.

Design Star was the best show I seen in a long time. I watched each and every episode and never missed one. I loved David from the beginning as his designs were always well thought out and fun. Clive you are the best. I'm glad to hear that Design Star will have a second season. I look forward to seeing the next Design Star.

David, You're THE BOMB!!
You display what true creativity means to design. Your designs ideas seem to come so naturally. It seemed like they just came "stress free and struggle free."
Where did you buy those lamps for the glass room? I really what to know.
I don't believe that I will ever been able to build things, but I am anxiously awaiting your show for design ideas.
You Go Boy!!

Clive,
As an avid DTS fan, I was excited to see your new venture, Design Star. I was hooked from the first episode and often watched repeats because there was so much to see in each episode! Thanks for another great show! David and Alice are both wonderful and strong designers. I'm thrilled for David, his body of work was consistently terrific. Alice is so engaging and charismatic, I would watch any show she was on! (hint, hint) HGTV has created a terrific program that I look forward to seeing in DS2!

I, like Pat W. (Sept 14), resisted watching another boring "REALITY" show (Don't like/Don't watch 'em/ Can't make me!), and didn't watch Design Star at 1st; however, one shot and I was hooked. David, you called it ... He said from the beginning, "I don't do good, I do great!" and did he ever. The only glitch seemed to be his 'on camera' persona, but he learned to relax and shined like the true star he is.
I look forward to Spring 2007 with great anticipation.

How refreshing, how fascinating and how original... All of these, as well as artist apply to David. But, just when will his show air and what is the name of it? I anxiously await his wonderful talent being aired. Very original work on his part and ingenuity in doing the room from the pet store. The glass room was like looking into a luxurious suite designed for the pleasure of peace and calm and speculation. Thank you HGTV for the series. I loved every minute of it.

Congratulations David! Always on your design game. Your artistic vision is truly marvelous! Especially given the time and design constraints. Much personality came through in your presentations. Looking forward to your show!
Alice, I hope we see more of you. A true gem of a gal! I loved your "Man Cave" design. Perhaps HGTV would film a snippet of his reaction on returning from Iraq?
Might be nice to include Tym and Temple also on some episodes. Like Design on a Dime, with The Final Four!
Thanks to Judy Girard for being innovative. And Clive, ever the fun host! Looking forward to the next Design Star! Rock on folks!

Thank you HGTV for one of the most refreshing and enjoyable shows I've seen in years--on ANY TV channel. This one is really a winner. I loved every minute--so much that I keep watching the repeats over and over! Clive, you are the best! I can hardly wait for the next season! And, of course, along with the rest of the world, I love David and Alice. Actually, I think all of the designers on the show deserve another opportunity. They all have something unique to bring to the table. I especially like Tym. Anyway, thank you Ms. Girard for bringing this incredible show to us.

CONGRATS to David! He is a true talent and a most deserving winner.
I have to admit, I am not a big fan of reality shows in general and I didn't want to get "suckered" in... but I just *LOVE* HGTV (it's on whenever I am at home) and so I HAD to watch this one. Well, I found the show to be very entertaining. I cannot wait for the next one. Congrats to HGTV for a brilliant and successful show.
David is a fantastic designer. I loved all his work. I thought Vern's idea of adding a splash of color was the "predictable" thing to do - and I applaud David for choosing NOT to do it. His glass house design was "so genius"!
Alice has a great, natural TV presence. I hope they at least give her a cameo on David's (or any other) show. She will be a success at whatever she does.
One thing that I was most impressed by was how classy both David and Alice were. Humble and genuine. It was a pleasure watching them every week. Both are winners in life. All the best to both of them.

David, Congratulations, you were (and are) great! Your glass room was wonderful. Now, if I could only get you up to my place to help out with my kitchen redesign!

We were rooting for David the whole time, and we're excited to see his new show.
I was even more excited when a friend of mine from Cokato, MN told me that her sister went to school with David. During the whole show, I didn't know he was originally from MN, but now that I know that, I like him even more.
I think he should go to Cokato or Dassel, MN for one show and redo a room or house there. It would be fun to see.

Same as everyone else.....Congrats to David! I love his work.....also think Alice should have a show. They got along so well and seemed so genuine! Looking forward to more!

What a fabulous show! It was fun to watch every week. I echo what everyone is saying, "David deserved to win but can't you find a place for Alice?" I LOVE ALICE! Such a genuine Texas sweetheart! To see such purity of heart and true rejoicing for the accomplishments of others is rare in life but unheard of on network TV, especially a reality show.
My wife & I are avid HGTV watchers and look forward to David's show but how about Alice on DTS? The new folks in Chicago are BORING!
Love your commercials Clive!

I love both Alice and David. Congrats to David, but, please, please give Alice some opportunity at HGTV - she's so talented and I agree that you would not be smart to forget her, as your audience has certainly grown to love her.

David,
Congratulations to you. I love that you are not only a designer you are an excellent artist. I am counting the days until your new show airs! HGTV is my addiction and I love Clive, he puts a smile on my face each time I see him. Again David you will be such a wonderful addition to the HGTV Lineup. Good luck from your fellow South Floridian!

Congratulations fabulous job David, my whole family routed for you and we are in Barbados.
So when you get that show, you can make a trip to the Caribbean and make over my home.
Posted by Lisa – September 13, 2006 8:05 PM
I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Alice is an amazing class act and David a wonderful designer.
I would like to suggest an idea for an episode for next year. I have enjoyed the expression of joy on the deserving people who get the Habitat for Humanity homes but I know there is never enough money to decorate them. I think giving them a dream room would be a fitting way to recognize their hard work in earning the house.

This was the classiest "reality" show I have ever seen. Both finalists exhibited wonderful personal qualities as well as talent. When I first saw the commercials, I though David was awfully smug...but after the 1st show I realized he is a tremendous talent and I can't wait to see more from him. Alice is a cutie and I would much rather watch her than some other hosts on the network now. And Clive, he was a gentleman who proved that not all Englishmen are as callous as one particular one on another network. Great entertainment!

Hi Clive,
Thanks for a wonderful show! You know, I hated having to pick between David and Alice because I loved them both and thought their personalities worked so well together. Wouldn't it have been great if you could have given them a show together. Hope we get to see Alice as a guest on David's show.
To David, congratulations handsome, you are extremely talented and I hope you get to set up shop in Miami soon.

Great show ! ! !
Both David and Alice are winners. How could they not be. What a team they would make.
David better have Alice on as a partner.
One question ! ! What were those last three words in Davids final interview ? ?
Posted by John – September 13, 2006 6:37 PM
Clive,
Fabulous job on the hosting. Congratulations on your new citizenship as well.
I felt David deserved to win and I am glad he did. Alice was good competition but I felt David was faster on his feet at the creative process. His designs were just plain fabulous whereas Alice's efforts were just very good. I've seen several calls for HGTV to put Alice on a show with David but I believe he will come across with more impact on his own. I feel Alice would be good on a show because she has the presence for it, but something very different than I hope to see David on.
Congrats to both of them on the new cars. Good luck to both on their individual careers.
Looking forward to the next season.

It's become incredibly tiresome to see deserving people voted off of reality TV shows by their ruthless & nasty peers, or being the brunt of fingerpointing and backstabbing to impress "The Boss" - How refreshing to see a reality show where the top three are all the nicest people, and the top two truly are the most talented and deserving of the group.
Although I agree that David is the best (Congrats, Baby!) I hope that HGTV recognizes what a talent they have in Alice and that this isn't the last of her we see on TV.
If I could vote one person as most improved by the end of the show, that would be Temple - I think she showed her true goodness as a person when she helped David and Alice with their projects.
Tim would probably do very well on the DIY Network - Keep on after your dream man!
Clive - Great show, and I got some good laughs from the out-takes. Looking forward to sending in my audition for DesignStar II!

Congratulations David! Looking forward to your new show. Thought you would win all along.
Thanks Clive for your hosting abilities. You really made it a show I wanted to tune into each week. Looking forward to seeing you on the next Design Star. Now, if only you could do something about the D2S staff in Chicago.
It was interesting to hear that the judges did not see or hear the same things that we did. Now I understand why they voted the way they did.
Congrats to HGTV! You really pulled it off.

Excellent show, looking forward to the next season. Alice was really good, but David had the edge, he has natural talent. I wish them both all the best. This is the best I have ever seen in reality TV. Way to go Clive.

AWESOME JOB DAVID!! We, like others, were glued to the show to see the end. David has a talent like no other. His show will indeed be interesting and lend us all a new perspective on design! He wears a shirt - he doesn't wear a shirt. Drive down the road - the construction workers don't have their shirts on either - and they don't all have great bodies. When you get hot and you are a guy, that's just what you do. And....your six-pack was a great incentive to my son to keep working harder!! Your personality is so sweet and your approach to people and life is uplifting. You will definitely make families happy with your designs on your new design show.
Alice would make a great host on another show using her friendly voice and persona to communicate the message she is hosting about.
Clive and the judges - absolutely fantastic!! I love DTS but please take the new gal off and bring back Lisa LaPorta! I am glad the judges were honest (though some thought brutal) because after all corrective criticism only helps you to be one step further in this life.
Again CONGRATULATIONS David!!!

Fabulous show. Really glad that there will be another season! David really did a fabulous job but; please get him a stylist. What a designer! Every task I thought he would be the winner. He was absolutely the hands down winner. Alice did a great job too but David just brought such vision to each task. The last task was brilliant on so many levels. David thought about seeing the space from outside and in. The two boxes, one in and one out. . .fabulous! Clive, you are just the best!

I saw the final selection episode of the Designstar. At a glimpse,I know David will win because he is very natural in front of the camera and he loves what he is doing, which radiates from his whole personality. My prediction to you David,,this is only the start of a long journey of the your dream.....perhaps the next male version of Martha Stewart...don't get me wrong....should be a compliment what I mean is you will build your own household name brand that commands a classy design.
To Alice,I like her too...a sweetheart and talented too.HGTV should create a new show for you.....you're a diamond....on your own way.Congratulations to both of you....

Congrats to David. I loved both Alice and David from the very begining. They both worked well as teams and alone. I didn't vote because I could not decide. I hope to see Alice appear on HGTV too, maybe one of the other shows could use her help. I loved the show and cant wait until next years show.

Both are winners to me!!
I think If HGTY is smart that somewhere

too.
I think Both Her And David so good that
they would be nuts to let either of them go.
I also think it be cool to see Alice and David
work together.
They were so cool together in the last event!!

Clive -- It's always a pleasure watching you host a show. Your intelligence, honesty, humor and, most importantly, support for contestants make you the Design Star. I was so happy to see both David and Alice end up as the final two contestants. Granted, it all comes down to a matter of design taste as to who wins, but HGTV would be foolish not to have them both host the show, perhaps on alternate weeks: a real "Design for the Sexes" so-to-speak. Certainly as most people seem to have suggested, at least have Alice guest on your show. Listen to your audience, Clive, and you can't go wrong. Thanks again for quality TV. (Say hello to Lisa for me; she's a winner, too).

David was definitly the star designer, with great style sense and flair and will of course be a success. However, I adore Alice in front of the camera, she is just such a natural. She would be just perfect on a southern type of design show. Coastal beach houses, etc, etc.... Give her a show too!!! All of us here in the low country would tune in.

I agree with the majority of positive comments. Think this was one of the best reality shows in a longtime. Positive drama which kept me intently interested. High class all around. Well deserved finalists and winner. Would love to be a "project" on David's upcoming show for the sping. Keep me in mind!!! Just purchased a new condo and need all the help I can get!
Encore HGTV!

I loved it when David ignored Vern's suggestion that he put a "spot of color" in that BEAUTIFUL Glass bedroom. I have never liked any of Vern's designs. David is tops. It was obvious from the first show.

WOW! I have never seen anything like this, and am so glad you will be coming back next season. Clive, you were terrific, and along with the rest of America, I hope Alice will somehow find her way back into HGTV also. David's designs were so, so original, and I LOVE what he did with the pet store challenge. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

BRAVO to the whole package! From the show format and choice of on screen talent (host AND judges) to the diverse group of designers who were able to actually produce the final product that they had conceived. Congrats to David and Alice who both showed enough talent, charm and manners to ensure that HGTV will have another opportunity to keep their camera crews and editors busy for many seasons to come. BRAVO, BRAVA and just plain JOB WELL DONE! to everyone... Party at my place when you come to San Francisco.

I believe that HGTV should definitely give Alice a program of her own. She is a one-in-a-lifetime combination of design talent, beauty, ethics, charm, and integrity. It is my belief that Alice modelled the correct demeanor for the group of competitors, with her tactfullness, compliments to others, and failure to complain. I suspect that the competitors eventually learned that the public really appreciated Alice's approach. I do not believe that it was an accident that the group finally changed their M.O. The viewing public feels personally attracted to Alice and she has a strong base of fans already. Perhaps she can be given a program in the state of her residence. I would love to have Alice work on my home! If you don't believe that "Southern sells," think of how popular the "Southern Living" magazine is. It covers everything from classic, traditional, modern, transitional, coastal living, cottage, urban, mountains, and even some desert-like areas. It's no wonder that Alice learned to be flexible in her designs. ALICE IS FABULOUS!

Congratulations to David--I'm looking forward to your new show--I feel we're friends! What a great idea HGTV had to build an audience for a new show!
By the way, did anyone else think the judges answer to Vanessa regarding their inconsistency in booting Joseph but not Temple as the captains of their respective teams was a bit lame?

I LOVED the car schtick. That was truly a surprise and they deserved it. I thought it was the classiest thing I have seen on reality TV in awhile. Congratulations to David and I love Alice. David made a comment about "coming out of the closet again" TELL me he's not gay. I would love to see him and Alice get together.
I would also like to say that I thought they were both genuine people and didn't put on airs. When David said he appreciated the help, I believe he truly did. That's what I especially liked about them both. They were genuine and believable. I will definitely watch his show.

I had such a hard time picking between David and Alice! Alas, I voted for David because I liked his glass house room the best. Although Alice's Tiffany box blue studio a few weeks ago was beautiful! I imagine though that we will see Alice do some kind of guest appearance on David's show--maybe Clive too??? Any show with Clive is a great one! Glad to see there are new eps. of DTS coming out! I just hope they are Clive/Lisa ones, as I prefer you two. Can't wait for more Design Star as well!

Congratulations, David! I loved Alice and David both! How wonderful that they ended up friends--I have a great amount of respect for both of them, both for their talent and for their character. I thought it was very classy that they were supportive of each other right up until the end of the show. I'm looking forward to David's show, but I'm going to miss Alice! Please find a way to keep her on HGTV in some way that showcases her talent and her wonderful warm personality.

Clive is simply delightful as a host. I rarely miss DTS and think he was the perfect choice for Design Star. David's designs were always complete, elegant and impeccibly executed. He won my vote from the beginning with his imaginative Pet Store room. His enthusiasm and likeable personality are infectious. I think he nailed it on the final challenge! David - you are talent personified.

I want to be hugged someday the way David reacted to winning, then joyfully grabbed for Alice & looked like he'd never let her go ... and how his dad rushed the stage & swallowed him up in his own bear hug.
I have saved 200 people's union jobs, been a bride, won a state spelling bee & survived a fatal bus crash. Still, I've never experienced such an outpouring of joy & honest affection as flowed over that stage. Yet I have hope!
Beginning to end, that was one of the sweetest shows I've ever watched.

I am ashamed to say that I thought David and Alice were losers at first. I thought that Temple would win...However, over time, Alice and David's talent sparkled and I now see how talented they are. They really deserved to win. Congrats David, and wonderful job Alice, you and all the the other contestants are truly winners.

Congratulations David. I am happy that you won!
Alice you were one of my favorites! I only wish you could of got the same thing David got.
I cant wait to see your show David!

So smooth and non-combative. An easy to like delivery, personality and ingenious designs; and by the way; the only one who deserved to win from the first episode. I voted for David every day, twice a day. To quote Vern: "a rock star performance."
David, please don't change a thing.
Alice, you gave it your best, you win against anyone else.
Congrats to all.

Alice and David were great, such great personalities and compassion for their work. I am just like some of the rest, I would love to see both of them win. I think they could work great together on shows. They seem to genuinely care about each other and that really did it for me. You dont see much of that. It was just great. Good luck to both of you.
Clive I just adore you. You are the best host, and Lisa LaPorta is a great designer. You both work great together.

So much has been said about the Host and the winners (I think both Alice and David were winners from the beginning - no fighting, back stabbing, etc.) but very little has been said about the Judges. They were great. I loved seeing the finished products through their eyes. I wish I could have them come judge my home and give me pointers. Bring them back for the second season. Good Job all around. Ellen

Congratulations David, I was on my edge of my seat waiting for them to announce you the winner, you are an excellent designer and I enjoyed watching you pull your designs together.
To Alice, you are a wonderful designer and I wish they could have had a tie then we would be watching both of you in the spring. I wish you the best success in the future, who knows maybe HGTV can find room for you in the future.
To Clive, keep the good work you are a joy to watch and HGTV could not have picked a better Host. I watch HGTV everynight for hours and I have to say that watching design star was something I really looked forward to.

Congrats to David AND Alice! I loved you both....and I totally agree that HGTV should add Alice as a regular on David's new show. They have great on-camera chemistry & would be terrific working together on a show. I think they would complement each other beautifully.
I really enjoyed the Design Star series and look forward to the next season. Love, love, love Clive on any show (& commercials)! Looking forward to new episodes of DTS with Clive & that little design miracle worker Lisa LaPorta.

As much as I loved David and think he deserved to win almost from the beginning, I hope you use Alice in something like another design to sell in the south. I think she would do a far better job than the other lady that is doing the alternate version (I love Lisa Laport - never let her go!)
And I also wanted to say - my 13 year old daughter is dying to see David's new show. With him, you have drawn in the next generation. I hope you can set up something that will appeal to them and I have no doubt she would appreciate as much of the no shirt policy as possible.

I loved the show. I think the best designer was picked. I missed the final episode because we moved into a new house and had no cable that night. David did an absolutely awesome job for the the final design. Alice was great. I really liked her "Mancave" and she will go far in her career. Congrats David.

Congratulation to David. I can't wait to see what's up for you next. I will miss Alice, I really think she is just a sweetheart and what you see is what you get. Best of luck to her. And Clive I am a big fan of Design to Sell. So I will see you soon!! Thanks for a great show HGTV. Malaina

David - Congratulations, you're THE BEST! I'm serious about you working on my mom's place, when I buy it for her. Clive, I ADORE YOU BEYOND WORDS & couldn't see anyone else hosting DesignStar. Alice, hope to see you "visit" David's show once in awhile. Stay well...
Posted by Roberta – September 12, 2006 3:51 PM
Congrats to David-he is a wonderful designer with great taste and impeccible skill. I think he will be a fresh new face to add to the already great hosts on HGTV. Although I was rooting for and voted for David-I do think Alice should stay around somewhere-maybe a guest designer on one of the shows? She's really beautiful and very warm. I'll miss her if I don't see her again!

Clive,
Wonderful show!! I was so sorry to see it end, but I'm looking forward to next season. I LOVE it!
First, congratulations to both David & Alice. I wish they could both have won!
Second, I just finally watched the audition videos. Based on those, Joseph and Tym stand out. They actually showed some of their work. As much as I love David, I am suprised he was chosen. And I won't even say what I thought of Temple's video.
Keep up the great work Clive! I love DTS! Lisa LaProta is a Genius!

P.S I have not read any of the bio's on the contastants, however is there anyone out there besides me that thinks, David and Alice would make a lovely couple.

Wow, I loved this show, and I hope HGTV does it again next year with a new group of designers!
I am so pleased that David won, although I would have been just as happy if Alice had won. David was superior in designing, and Alice was fantastic as a TV host! To me, they are both winners, and I hope that we see Alice again. She has such a warm, friendly personality, I look forward to seeing her on another HGTV show.
Best of luck to David, I will definately be watching your new show when it premieres!

Job Well Done, HGTV! It was so refreshing to see people with principles rise to the top. If you REALLY want a homerun next time, don't try to find the usual cast with a wierdo, a cut-throat, a princess, etc. Just look for talented, real designers who are people of honor, and give them challenges. America is hungry for that - especially the creative people who watch your network.
Clive is endearing, funny and genuine. David's artistic ability, work ethic, organizational skills and design sense were superior. Good luck to Alice, in all she does.

My husband and I really enjoyed watching Design Star from beginning to end! We were in Durango, CO when the final night came and the winner announced. We found the HGTV channel in our hotel and were so happy we could see the final episode. We both agreed that David and Alice deserved to be the finalists. It's too bad there can't be 2 winners; however, CONGRATULATIONS DAVID and GOOD JOB Alice! Clive, you are a WONDERFUL and entertaining host and we're so glad your "show has not been cancelled"!

The final two contestants were supurb. I did vote for David, however. I am anxious to view his first show. When David and Alice were finishing their designated project, I must admit I became apprehensive about the time element and whether they would complete it in time. My congrats to the final two and to HGTV for creating a pleasurable show.
As for Clive, he was an asset to the show.

Congratulations to David. My daughter and I have watched each episode and David and Alice were our favorites from the very beginning. We only wish both of them could have won--a co-hosted show. Besides their great gift of design, their personalities just sparkled. Each of them showed poise and confidence in all episodes even when they each thought they would be going home. Congratulations to both David and Alice for making it to the top and we will be looking forward to David's new show.

To the bloggers telling David to keep his shirt on, I have but one thing to say: Are you kidding me?!! If you've got it, flaunt it. And this one has beauty that is only matched by his design talent. Design is sexy, so why shy away from it. Congratulations! I look forward to your show. I hope the concept for the show is as innovative as your designs. And, by the way, I adore Alice too. She and David are both gorgeous beyond words, and she's such a sweetheart. My partner and I had to replay the tape over and over when she said, "It's bad ... it's bad." LOVE her! Great show, Clive! You have really emerged as the face of HGTV.

Congratulations David!! Your work was awesome. My wife and I were truly amazed at your consistency from week to week. As the eliminations progressed, your work improved as well. Best of luck on your new show. We can't wait to see it.
Congratulations, too, to Alice. You are an amazing designer. Like David, your work got better as time passed by. You have a tremendous career ahead of you. You are empathetic, a great listener, a truly tender-hearted woman with a vision. While I knew that David would win the final competition, I was hoping that somehow the two of you would be co-winners, and so be co-hosts together. Ah, well . . . Best of luck to you in your career!

Good job Clive for your attitude towards the contestants. What I liked the most about the show is good manners (I hated that Hell's kitchen show because treating badly the contestants is not a good idea).
Congratulations David and Alice for being the best finalists. I am looking forward to the 2nd Design Star show. I also love HGTV my favorite channel.

I am not much for watching tv. except for HGTV! Everything always seems upbeat and happy on all the shows. I want to express my thanks for the brilliant idea of "Design Star". This was an awesomely wonderful show with maximum suspense! I give it an A++++++. Clive did an excellent job of hosting. I watch anything he hosts. (Dearly Love His Commercials Too)! My GRATZ go to David, he is a remarkable designer. I didn't vote for the simple fact that I didn't want to seem disloyal to either David or Alice. That sounds silly I guess, but they are both such wonderful people that I just fell in love with their sweet personalities. Clive, you're a sweetheart, and a joy to watch. I'm looking forward to another season with you and a new and upcoming Design Star. God bless you all, you have made an old lady very happy!

This was a very entertaining series. The host, and the judges, and the contestants, were all a tribute to the integrity of HGTV. The winners deserved their tribute.
David is simply stunning, both in raw talent, and in his ability to buckle down and work until the job is complete. He is a charming perfectionist; a rare combination.
I hope that HGTV will eventually develop a show devoted to expectant women and young mothers, and feature Alice as the host. She has such compassion and emphathy with young women and small children, and she would be a natural host to young women as they become mothers.
Clive will be part of our lives for many years to come, for the simple reason that he is real. There are not enough real people on telly, which is why we cherish the "Clive's" of this world.

At last a show that proves that you don't have to be "cut throat", hateful or nasty to be competitive. I hate reality TV - if I want to see and hear all of that garbage all I have to do is listen to the news. My sister told me about the show or I never would have watched it, I think the season was about half over when I started watching and I am so glad that I did. The talent and creativity was awesome and a joy to watch. David and Alice were both outstanding and either one deserved to win. Actually HGTV if you are really smart you will offer both of them a show - not co-hosts but a show of their own. I truely admired Alice and I think she is to be applauded for her example. In my opinion they are both winners.

I loved both David and Alice as designers and either one deserves to win. However, Alice has such a wonderful personna about her and I believe she would make a natural and appealing hostess. She has such a great way with words and if HGTV is not going to use her, then I hope TLC snaps her up! She is unique and I am sure there are many producers out there who would love to put her under contract. I am almost positive we will be seeing Alice again - even if it is on another network!

Clive - It was fun to see you in a new role that allowed you to stretch and grow your hosting skills. Each week it looked like you were more and more comfortable with your various interactions with the design stars. I was glad to learn you will be extended with a 2nd season of hosting the Design Star.
I would encourage HGTV to consider you for other opportunities. You always have a fresh way of looking at situations and making people feel comfortable talking with you.

1. Love HGTV - it's the best!
2. Clive is a wonderful host - with his glint of mischiveness ("Clively copter"!)
3. Loved the premise of the show - but felt time constraints were somewhat impractical (it takes me a month to select one paint color!)
4. Next season's show should have all experienced designers (not some with 20 years vs none to even the playing field)
5. David and Alice were both such class acts, aside from their designing challenges / accomplishments, they were simply delightful, so heartwarming / gracious and just plain "fun" to watch. Their humor, understanding, and interactions were made for TV.
6. There are both beautiful and talentedc people. Congrats and best wishes to them both.
7. American needs more people like them!
8. Thank you for being part of our lives on Sunday evening!

CONGRADUATIONS...DAVID!!!!!!I was hoping and praying that you be the next Design Star because you were the better Designer! I take my hat off to Alice, too! Clive, I love your show, you have a great personality and charima. I enjoy seeing you on "Design to Sell"! I enjoy your wonderful voice. The judges were great! Design Star is a terrific show!! May our Father in heaven to bless each of you richly.

CONGRATS DAVID!!!! I had everyone voting for you. I remember you from the arty parties at urban think back in Orlando where Shelby introduced us. I was so sad when you told me you were moving to Miami because my face would light up every time I ran into you but it seems like things worked out for the best. You are so sweet, genuine and talented and I am glad that the David on design star was the same David I met a few years ago. You are so deserving of this opportunity and I am honored to have been in your presence.
I adored Alice and I think that she and Tym would make excellent guest stars on your show.
Congrats again and I can't think of anyone who deserved this more that you:-)
Looking forward to your show! Once I buy a place in nyc, maybe I can be an episode hahahahaha
All the best to you and the rest of teh contestants!!!!

Congratulations to HGTV. You have inspired new generations of designers. Thank you for a breathtaking series. I am not a profesional anything so I am unable to comment on anyone's expertise, but I was awed by the shere creativity displayed each week
I noticed most of the posts were from women so I had to write. I thought it was inappropriate (however practical) for the clothing to come off. Alice did not have that opportunity ( though I would have loved it). I must be honest- I wanted Alice because I liked how she looked (sorry David). I also believe that if many of the women were honest, they would say the same about David. There may have been skill also, I am in no position to comment on that. I just knew they were very pleasant to watch.
Finally, I felt Tym was treated unjustly. His carpenter was a JERK. I hope he gets another shot- or more. Keep it coming- I have alot to learn.

Congratulations to David for winning Design Star, his talent stood out right from the start. Alice deserved to be in the finals as well. Congratulations to her for giving David a run for the money and making the final choice a difficult one. I hope HGTV pays attention to all the Alice fans who have said it would be a shame to let her slip through their fingers.
I'm glad to hear that there will be a Design Star 2 and that you will be hosting. You are an excellent host both on DS and Designed to Sell. Love your sense of humor and witty comments.
Someone had a bright idea about having Lisa LaPorta as one of the judges on DS2.

I really like both Alice and David the best from the beginning. Moreso for their Character and charm, their talents being a plus! I voted once for David and once for Alice. I thought David executed every task in a more professional manner and every detail was right on! Alice I thought of as being a great friend. I thought they each had something different to offer....too bad they couldn't have had a joint show, they got along so well! Good luck to all the contestants with their futures...I admired their courage and effort.

While a design competition show COULD have been as boring as watching the proverbial paint dry, I tuned into the first show to see Vern Yip and became engrossed from the start. I do have to say I was always pulling for David- his Ringling training gave him a HUGE step up on the competitors in my estimation...his final room was truly a work of art.

I'm more than a little sad that Alice did not win. She added such a pratical side of designing to HTGV. David is quite a stud, but finding a designer who has heart and sould is great too.

I voted for Alice, but was glad to see David win. Both are very talented. It's so nice to have HGTV - it's my favorite channel. He always rolls his eyes and says, "please, do we have to watch HGTV again???"

I thought both designers were very talented. David's designs were always similiar though. He seems to be a one concept desinger. ALice at least showed some variety. Will give his show a shot but I am not looking as forward to it as I would ALice's. They should co-host a show. It would probably be better.

Wow!!!! what a finale, all day long I was anxious like kid waiting for Santa. When the winner was finally anounced, my husband and I jumped for My favorite won!!! Although I must say that I enjoyed Alice also, but felt that David took a step farther. I hope all goes well with her, she has a great personality and I am sure that her life will change beyond her expectations. Then reality hit and all that preparation like you do for your kids in Christmas day and then the presents are openned and you realize, boom just like that is gone. I was sad that it was over, but happy at the turn out, I can't wait until the next show!!!!! loved Clive and the judges, also all of the contestants. It is true that they have courage, I am not sure that I could leave myself open to be judged in front of America, good luck to ll, and to all a good show.LOL. Brenda Lee.

CONGRATULATIONS, DAVID -- YOU ROCK!!! And, so do you, Clive :-)
Great show. Great concept. Really looking forward to the "Making of a Design Star" and of course, David's new show next Spring.
As for Alice, she is a gracious runner up and I hope being on the show boosts her career. Is it possible to use her as a designer on Designing for the Sexes? I have seen Lisa LaPorta and Kenneth Brown on there. Maybe she could do one :-) Or, maybe try her out on Designers Challenge. I'd really love to see what she could do with a decent budget, schedule and lots of helpers!
Clive - So glad to hear your work was judged superior and you have moved on to the next season ;-) Hopefully the lessons learned during the first season will make season #2 all the better!
Cheers!!

CONGRATS DAVID!!!! I was so tickled to see that you won. I love Alice, but truly do think Davids talent is amazing.....hmm....by the way, I have a wonderful son & his partner (wonderful too) who live in San Francisco in a studio apartment that definitely needs some fine tuning. Neither one of the boys is particularly talented at putting it together. However, they are very personable & photogenic, so they would make fab guests!!!! Maybe David's first season he could take pity on my sweet son & son in law and decorate their cute studio?
(:REALLY, I AM NOT A MEDDLING MOTHER IN LAW!!!:)

'Designed to Sell' is a favorite of mine. About 50% of my T.V.viewing is spent on the HGTV network. Design star kept me virtually clued to the tube.
I was hoping last night that,on the show, it would be announced that another 'Design Star' show would be on next year. I'm glad I came back to the web site tonight!
As for David, I can't wait to see his show.
Alice is a gem too and I haven't given up hope that she'll find a place with the network.

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID? I'm so happy for you. You are a great talent in addition to being a class act. That's a rare combination in today's world. I put Alice in that category as well. I wish both of you could have won but that was not to be. She was a winner in her own right. Alice will fare well as I'm sure someone will approach her for some type of show of her own. With her grace and classiness and poise in front of a camera she will go places and do well. Love ya guys. How did you like your short visit in my state of Washington. I live up by the Mountain (Rainier).

David - congrats on a stupendous job. Can't wait to see the new show. I wasn't sure how you'd top the pet store room, but you did it with the zen bedroom. Out of all the rooms I've seen on various design shows, those two rooms are amongst my top 10 favorites.
Alice - somehow I doubt this will be the last we see of you. You are an amazing designer and I believe the best is yet to come for you.

I'm sooooooooooooo happy David is the winner. He's the most talented, super sweet and perfect for the design star. He's really serius on his design. He always happy and smile.
Clive, you are my most favorite host. You are just sincere and not phony. I like you and Lisa laporta :)

So happy David won. It was a well deserved win. He was (by far!!!) the best of them all. Alice and Tym were good too but their creations couldn't come close to those of David's. Congrats to the enormoously talented David and looking forward to watching his own HGTV show.

I am so glad David won! I liked Alice too, but David incorporated so much personal artistic talent in his designs which I loved.
I watch but converse with family members who are not in my area, and we all voted for David.
One point: I am a huge Project Runway fan and watch every Weds. with a group....and am always happy if they are too vocal, that I can watch the rerun the next morning by myself. I wanted to do that today with DesgnStar, but alas, you don't do reruns! Please think about that next season.

Some final comments about the show:
Ramona: Two words: MENTAL INSTITUTION. I'm sure your plastered vacuum would make a nice addition to their art collection.
Joseph: I totally wish you could have stayed longer. It would have been fun to see what you could do. Unfortunately, as the team leader, you took the hit.
Vanessa: Grow up. Glamallistic? HELLO? What made you think you were so good and could take the credit for everything? Learn to have a little less ego and a lot more style.
Teman: I'm sorry you got eliminated. Your room was actually better than your brother's that time, but they couldn't have eliminated BOTH of the people who did the "Beauty" room or it would have been unfair.
Teran: From what I could see of your "Kitchen" design, it wasn't that bad. You just got too nervous and didn't explain things to the homeowners.
Donna: If you had tried to help Temple more and try to work with her, you probably would have been in the "Final Four". That was the only thing you did wrong.
Temple: Did you get that "Automotive" room from somewhere else? It sure looked it. Your "Yellow" room was lousy, and the kitchen wasn't what you promised.
Tym: As Vern said, wasted potential. You took your designs too literally, especially in the "Green" room.
Alice: You're a WONDERFUL designer, Alice. Your accent is TOO CUTE!!! Unfortunately, you never really thought outside the box. You'll go far, though.
David: Your designs are good, but are too bold for me. Good luck on your new show, anyway!
And last, but certainly not least, Mr. Clive Pearse: You are wonderful as a host! Your accent is adorable. I have the accent, too! Come back for next season!

Congratulations, David!! I watched all the shows...and loved everyone of them. I'm a huge HGTV fan. I watch a lot of the shows. I'm continually surprised at how often I end up loving a show that at first glance I think I won't like. This was one of them. But it was so well done, edited, that I was hooked after the first show. I was rooting for you and Alice from the very beginning. Your personalities and design styles I like a lot. I was hoping at the very end that the producers would suprise us and give both of you one show where you would be co-hosts!!! I still think that would have been fun too. I can't wait to see what format concept your show will be, David. The very best to all the runners up too, especially Alice. Maybe we'll see her pop up on one of the HGTV shows now and then? Yea!!, Clive that you'll be back with another suspense thriller....

I really wanted Alice to win - but I like David a lot too. The show was great. Glad to hear they are coming back with Design Star 2. Clive, you are a great host. I also enjoy watching you on Design to Sell. I have used many tips to help my home show beautifully during our Open Houses.

David won me over on the Pet Store challenge. Up until that episode I was thinking they were all pretty much evenly matched. However, that episode proved to me how far superior he was! I actually voted both by text message and online which is something I don't normally do with reality shows. I didn't want to feel partly responsible if he didn't win because I was too lazy to do all I could via text message and online voting, so I made it my mission to not let him down. CONGRATS David, I can't wait to watch.

David, is a Great designer. He is very gifted and I really liked watching him to see what he could come up with. I am so glad he won!! Congrats!!
Alice, I wish you all the luck, I know we will be seeing you.

Thank you David for finally realizing the camera is your friend. I was so worried that the camera would be what lost you the contest, since it was two part. Your talent was above everyones. I never watch reality shows either but I was glued to this one. Way to go HGTV!!!

This show was so much fun. I didn't miss a single episode and watched quite a few of the reruns.
Big congratulations to David. He was definitely my choice to win. His designs are awesome. What a talent. It will be interesting to see his new show.
Clive, you have been half the fun of watching the show. I've always enjoyed your "Designed to Sell" show and it has been great fun to watch you here, too.

An Incredibly Handsome Nice Man paired to an Incredibly Beautiful Nice Woman. How Utterly Fantastic.
Congratulations David, looking forwarding to seeing more of your talent! And Alice, looking forward to seeing you host something on HGTV...
Thank you Clive for being such a Magnificent Host as always.

David was unquestionably the best designer.
But in the future...please leave your shirt on
Posted by georgie – September 11, 2006 7:58 PM
Just a thought. Clive, I was hoping that when you announced the winning designer he would have achieved full professional status and be called not just David, but David Bromstad. I know it is hard for the public to remember even first names, but at least the last three: Tym DeSanto, Alice Fakier, and David Bromstad should have been called by their fun names. You and the judges are listed that way on the wedsite banner.

The only "reality" show I watch is "The Amazing Race", that is until now. I have enjoyed the fact that no one was torn apart by the judges or voted out by their piers. This show in my opinion was handled with class and certainly with talent.I want to congratulate David on winning his own new show! I also want to congratulate Alice on her poise, talent and most of all her integrity! I truly believe she was happy for David and that they are friends. I loved the way they never seemed to try to be undermining the other one but in fact seemed to support their opposition. Thank all of the contestants for making this show one I looked forward to each Sunday.
I do wish Alice could find her place on televion as she is, as one judge put it "television is your calling, you absolutely are TV material". I realize that David won the right to his own show, however if HGTV lets Alice get away then they will be the losers.
Thanks again for such a classy show and just as classy a moderater. I think Clive was just the right person to take on this journey as he seemed to care about the contestants without showing favor. I also love his sense of humor!
All in all, THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL SHOW and congratulations to both David and Alice. I hope they will get to read some of the praise they earned.

Wow, I have never seen more down to earth contestants for any competition - at least not on TV! It was amazing how both of the final two competitors were sooo down to earth, and so genuine about their work, and so loyal to one another as friends! I mean, most people can't wait to just run over the people they're up against, but I saw that David and Alice had not just the talent, but the REAL personalities to deserve their spots up there!
Dave really was my pick - I thought his designs were SO amazing. You wouldn't believe he designed kids' rooms for a living! I mean, all of them were so sophisticated, clean, creative - just amazing! I was reeeeeeally hoping he'd win, so CONGRATS to you, Dave!
As for Alice, she was sooo sweet - she never welcomed anyone with anything less than a GREAT BIG smile, and super kind words and guestures. She had talent and grace, and real design skills too, and I think if there was to be a show for "America's Sweetheart," she could win! (; So, GREAT WORK Alice, too! :)
Congrats to both of you - and I totally second (or third or fourth) the opinion that Alice should co-host a show with Dave! :)

CONGRATS DAVID!!! I am so glad you won, especially since I had the whole office voting for you. Just want to say that you have very articulate design concepts & it shows in your finished rooms, even down to every rock, stone & pebble. Kudos to your free spirit, energy and cool designs week after week. You truly were the most creative designer and can definitely think outside the box. Alice may have been the better host for a while, but you have showed confidence and poise on the final competition that you too can host your own show just as well, if not better.
Clive, you are an excellent host. I love watching your show 'Designed to Sell' with Lisa LaPorta.
Like everyone else, I look forward to seeing both your new shows.

Glad to hear that Clive's going to be back. We've loved watching Clive on this show and have always enjoyed him on the "Sell this House" episodes.
We thoroughly enjoyed each week's episode and really got hooked -- on bring on the second season FAST! Thanks HGTV for an enjoyable show during the pre-Fall season.

I am so glad David won. He really deserved it. In my opinion, he and Tym had the most raw talent, but there was no denying Alice's charm. I really enjoyed David's skill and creativity. I would like to see more design contestants with backgrounds comparable to David's. With his training in the arts, it seemed almost unfair to place him against people with little or no professional training(Temple)I know that I would love to see full time professional designers and artists compete. I mean no disrespect toward any of the contestants, and I know that they were probably chosen because of their character traits and diverse personalities. There should be a minimum of talent and training before they are even considered. And no, posing nude under a fur throw doesn't count. With that said, I loved the show, and I think that you(Clive) do a wonderful job with everything you do. And how about Michael Payne or Lisa Laporta as judges next year? Talk about the best of both worlds!

Never ever watch reality shows - BUT this one is and was tops!!! I am proud to say that I chose the one to leave each week. I love both Alice and David - and agree with others that Alice would be great as a co-host or guest on some of David's shows. He is an AWESOME person (so sincere) and a wonderful designer. Can't wait for his show AND will wait (not too patiently) for the next Design Star show! My FAVORITE and, really, only TV channel! Clive, you are a joy! God Bless you, David; and all of you.

Like some other people, I got hooked at the last minute: the final weekend marathon. I had seen one or two episodes before but I was glued to the TV for that marathon, and even my husband got interested. This was a fun, compelling series and I am thrilled there is going to be a Season 2! I would be interested, next season, to see what would happen on the final challenge if we didn't hear the judges' comments before the voting. I don't think it would have changed the results necessarily but it would have been interesting. Also looking forward to David's show and congratulations to Alice and all the designers for their hard work. Thank you HGTV!

Well, I went to preview my note and it was blank. I'm a nerd when it comes to computer stuff. But I'm a wanna be designer. And, I wanna design like David! Congratulations David!! My husband and I had our fingers crossed for you. You are talented, witty, and very caring. I can't wait to see your new show. I LOVED the "pet store" room. Wow! And your zen room has me doing flips trying to turn my bedroom into a zen room. So inspiring. And the judge was wrong. You didn't need a splash of bright color. The room was PERFECT in every way.
Clive, you were the perfect host and I love watching you (and Lisa) on Design to Sell. Please stay with that show. You two make it great. Can't wait to see David's show in the spring. Maybe Alice could guest star. But I disagree with others who think they should co-host. David won fair and square. But David and Alice are really cute together.

OMG!!! I was totally hooked from the begining. I love HGTV, as any of my friends will gladly confirm, so no surprise that Design Star was a Sunday night must see.
And big kudos to all of the participants. They gave me plenty of smiles and even some good ideas but I'm thrilled that my favorite (i.e.David!) was the winner. A pure genius.
Keep up the fabulous programming HGTV. And I'm already looking forward to Season 2 with Mr. Clive!

I know that everybody means well when they suggest that David and Alice have a show together, but their styles are nothing alike. Yes, they are both very nice people but that does not a show make. I'm sure that they each have their own idea of what kind of show they would like and I would bet that they are very different. I listened to everyone (before the winner was announced) hoping that both Alice and David could win. That certainly would not be true to the premise of the show (Design Star) and they would then have to consider a compromise for every competition to come. There is a winner and a loser. Like it or not - that's what makes the show exciting.
For those who complained that David is a "one trick pony" a closer look at his design skills reveals a man which a strong sense of space and how to use it. He goes far beyond "decorating" and into a level that could change how people think about designing spaces. Kudo to David for sharing your vision with America. Alice is a great personality (with good design skills) and I have no doubt that she will land her own show in the future. Heck, she's got a ready-made audience out there. But David truly deserved to win this particular competition.

Congratulations, David! You have a lot of talent and I look forward to your show. Alice, you are to be commended for your positive nature and for your positive competitiveness. I admire your grace. The right two were left standing at the end of the competition. Thanks, HGTV, for a great series and great entertainment as well.

Hi David, Kudos on the win. You are truly a telented man. Hope your new show is going to be fun, low key as well as stylish like you have been doing on the contest. I also hope you keep your own style going as well, like your preference to do hands on, get sweaty and take your shirt off...you are not only fun to watch but hot to look at! Keep it up!;)

Hi - I know you've gotten a THOUSAND comments - but I just wanted to say "Yea David!!!"
Don't get me wrong. I liked Alice...
This was probably THE most bitter/sweet competition. I was so happy when all of the others were taken off the show....but it was such a hard choice between David & Alice.
I voted for David because I think he's just a tad more creative. I really like how he pulled rooms together.
Alice was very impressive because of her interegrity (SP????)...she is also a pretty good designer - although....maybe not my taste....
I just wanted to say congrats to David - also, I hope the best for Alice & I'm sure we probably haven't seen the last of her....she was pretty good on TV & there's always DIY - or other home shows out there....

Hi Clive! Wow, what a great show. And I'm so excited that David won the competition. I loved his style and his infectious personality. Congratulations David! Alice did a great job, too. Hope they can both get together again. Clive, you are the greatest. I love your wit and charm and hope to see you much more on Designed to Sell (Lisa, too). More about David....his "pet shop" room was AMAZING! I still can't get over his design and creativity. And the Zen Room....okay, David, I've spent the last week running back and forth to the stores trying to find stuff to turn our master bedroom into a zen room. You inspired me! Good Luck with your new show. I'll be watching!!

Congratulations David! I didn't watch must of the contest because of conflicts, but I saw the final contest and I really enjoyed David's design. Alice is talented, but my design taste favored David's design talents. I do not think Alice should be a co-host folks. People voted and David won. Maybe each one of the participants could be on a show occasionally, but I think it should be David's design talents that are used on the show. One person had to be the winner and it was David. Alice was second not the loser.
Posted by Marcia – September 11, 2006 5:27 PM
David did not win this competition because he was a "sexy shirtless showoff", he won it because every week his designs were consistently classy and well executed. // I was impressed that Joseph thanked Alice for her graciousness. I felt it was important to thank her and make special note of her sincerity and her loyalty. Hooray Alice-- You're a real class act who showed everyone else "how it's done!" // I like Joseph. He has an interesting quality about him that we never had the opportunity to explore because he was eliminated too early. I hope he has a chance to show his stuff. // Ramona did not ever belong in this group; I never knew why she was chosen in the first place because it was obvious from the start that she is an artist, not a designer. I found myself wondering if she was chosen by the producers to be an easy target to eliminate the first week? // The one thing that I feel should be rethought about Design Star is the timing of how challenges are given to the contestants. It seemed inappropriate that all the candidates were immediately expected to work on group projects. The first couple of challenges should have been solo efforts so the judges could really see who had design chops and who didn't. First of all, designers do not go into a project with a bunch of other people whom they know nothing about; designers choose their craftspeople and design team depending on the project they are doing. So it was a bit weird that these people who were complete strangers and knew nothing about each others' skills, talents, or tastes (and were all competing against one another) were immediately thrown into a situation where they had to come up with a "group design". It didn't let anyone know who actually did what. // I hope next time around there will be the opposite approach: let each contestant have a go at two solo projects, and then throw them into group projects to see who has the ability to head a project effectively. // I also truly hope that this exposure actually gives a boost to the careers of each of the contestants. Hats off to all of them.

In my heart I was hoping that there would be a 'surprise' twist... and both David & Alice would be 'winners'. Hopefully, Alice will be invited to guest spots!
I must say that I am in awe of both David & Alice's level of integrety on the show. It was inspiring to see the way they supported each other (as well as the others) up to the end.
Bravo to both of you.
And Clive... you handled being the 'hatchet man' quite well.

You were the best designer on the show and I can't wait to watch your new show. You are very innovative and creative, and truly a DESIGN STAR... whereas some people are merely decorators. I'm glad America was able to recognize the difference between a designer and a decorator.

My husband and I enjoyed Design Star and really would have been happy if either David or Alice had won. Very classy finalists.
We were disappointed in the format of the finale. After the wonderful glass house challenge, the reunion show was anticlimatic and just became too silly and "game-show" like when the cars were revealed behind Curtain #1. We were expecting Monty Hall to make an appearance along with the rowdy crowd. Please consider a different format for the final show to match the creativity and sophistication of the rest of the episodes.
Other than that, Clive is a delightful host and the challenges were interesting. Keep up the good work!

David is so unbelieveably talented! Anyone that can make a rug that looks like a rug out of animal litter is truly amazing! His zen room in NYC made me want to lay down & take a snooze. I don't blame the judges for relaxing a bit.
Clive...love your wit and humor. Keep it up.

Congratulations to Dave! It was a hard choice for me and I finally felt that they should share a show. Where one lacked the other excelled and their personalities are so complementary. They would have made a lively and watchable designing duo. What a team they could have been. Dave will undoubtedly do a fabulous job and I think that HGTV should also pick up Alice and not let her slip through their fingers!
Clive was very special and what an excellent choice! I always enjoy his witty and fresh perspective that he reliably contributes and am thrilled that he will be doing a second season of Design Star. Designed to Sell is greatly enhanced by his charming and disarming personality as well.
Cheers!

Congratulations to David. Even though I was cheering for Alice, I think David is really talented, and I love his enthusiasm on camera. I think his show will be great. Like everyone else, I would love to see Alice pop up on his show or somewhere on HGTV. She is too good to lose.
I loved the bloopers and behind the scenes clips from the show. It looked like the cast had a good time while they worked hard, and it just added to the good feeling of the show.
I can't wait until the next season!

Congrats to David!
I'm not a reality show fan, but I became hooked after watching the episode when Alice stood up for her team leader -- even at the possibility of her own dismissal. I new then that she was a women of integrity -- and that kind of thing is important to me. So watched every show after that and pulled for Alice.
I was very pleased to see her get to the final two. With her natural TV persona, I'm sure she'll be on somebody's network real soon.
Back to David. Does he get to decide the format and subject matter of his now show or has this been decided already? How will HGTV ensure that the new show will be a hit?
Just curious. Thanks.

As a degreed, professional designer, I'm always curious to see what's going on in HGTV's view of design. Design Star was intriguing for many reasons, and I tuned in all the way to the end. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - next season do not call the contestants "professional designers"! Having "the knack", and "loving design" does not make one a professional designer. Those of us who work hard to be truly a "professional", really don't appreciate that term being used as such.
Looking forward to next season all the same!

Congratulations David!
You are superb - sure could use someone with your talents to help me paint and decorate my home.
Looking forward to your show.
Best of Luck,
Stay true to yourself

Both were great but since the begining I knew David was apart of the others job well done David and I wish him all luck in his new show that of course will be a hit

My 10 year old daughter was totally enthralled with this show. Every week she sat and judged and was so pleased that her favorite two made it to the finals. She behaved especially well every Sunday so she would be allowed to stay up and watch. She has had a design book that she creates rooms in, but now she thinks maybe it would be a great career. Thanks for having a program that we were able to watch together.

David is a great designer AND decorator while Alice was just decorating however well she did it, he was still the best. I voted for you, you showed your abilities from day one. Congrats!!!! Rockville, MD

Congratulations to David on a fantastic job!! I, like several of my fellow HGTV fans, love Alice and would love to see her be a guest "co-designer" on David's show. She is so natural on camera. They both have a lot of class. Speaking of class, Clive, I hope to continue enjoying your charm and sharp wit on Designed to Sell as well!

David was my pick, but my 7 year old daughter bet me 10 cents that Alice was going to win. She was so disappointed - I think I actually saw a tear! After the final challenge, I caught her pretending to host her own design show on HGTV, so this show has been sparking imaginations of all ages! All the designers were fun to watch, but David and Alice were definitely the most inspiring for me - I can't even sleep at night because I have all these great ideas in my head. I can't wait to watch your show, David - CONGRATS!!!

Congratulations David. It's great to see someone who is so talented be recognized!
Clive,
I still have a few lingering questions from the series.
1. What happened to the glass houses after episode 7? What was the design budget for them? Budget was always an issue for the other episodes, but I don't recall that it was mentioned at all for this one.
2. Did that tudor house sell yet? What did the owner think of the designers' work?
Love ya, love ya, love ya, Clive!
Can't wait for the start of David's show.

There are few shows on TV that really distract me like Design Star did. My 7 year old was taken up with the show and constantly reminded me on Sunday that it was the final (when she ought to have been in bed). Congratulations David (dynmaite personality even across the screen) - you reigned supreme and I look forward to seeing you in the Spring of 2007, with Alice as your guest star - your personalities melded well. Congrats to all who made each episode nail biting! Thanks Clive & HGTV from all the way in The Bahamas!

Congratulations to HGTV. I'm not a reality show watcher, but you did get and keep my attention with this.
Kudos to you, also, for brining back the judges, and letting the participants ask THEM questions...WOW! That is so rare in today's world. When Vanessa's hand popped up, and she was allowed to ask her question and put them on the spot, and the answer was given, YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION AND MY TOTAL DEVOTION! Again, totally unheard of! The candor and honesty of that interaction was amazing!
It's also too bad we weren't given more of a chance to see even more of the contestants interacting together. Those clips were revealing, and put together in such an entertaining manner.
And last night, Donna turned out to be not so bad after all. What a sport!
Please don't change a thing. Please don't make it false or phony. Thank you for truly making reality TV "real".

Design Star is the show that finally tipped me into reality tv. I was pulled in during the marathon weekend before last. I could not stop watching. I am so glad to see David win. He is adorable. He definitely has the design skills! His pet store room was amazing. I am hoping this series will be available on DVD soon. I cannot wait to see what David does with his own show. I think next season of Design Star will definitely be something I have to watch.
Clive is the BEST! I love Designed to Sell.

Clive, well done. I enjoyed the show immensely, and I can't wait for season 2.
David was my fave from the very first episode, and I was quite delighted to see him win.
I also think that he and Tym work very well together, so it would be cool for them to team up for projects on the new show.

I thought the show was awesome. I can't wait for it to start up again. It was a very exciting show to watch!!! I am so glad that David won. I fell in love with him and would have been so bummed out never to be able to see him again! He is such an awesome designer! He really blew me away with some of his designs, especially the final one! (He didn't need a splash of color!) I will be looking forward for the new Designstar and for David's new show as well! It's going to be boring without the new show to watch!!

David's designs move from the realm of decoration into pure art...reminds me of the breakthrough the Bauhaus made...the perfect blending of concept with execution, with concepts that are fresh, exciting, and ethereal. Really looking forward to what he does with all the rooms to come. His future is so bright and his sweet personality was meltingly lovely.

Congratulations David! What a hard show to watch last night! I was a bundle of nerves before the winner was announced! I love both David and Alice and especially when they are together. The bond between them was so sweet and how much the admire and respect each other speaks volumes of their character. I look forward to seeing David's new show and truly, truly hope Alice will show up on it, at some point. Alice, I know you will do very well in this profession. You've got it girl!

Congratulations David for a tremendous and much deserved win. It was GREAT to see that HGTV awarded them both an SUV - very classy, because Alice definitly deserved something. I am looking forward to David's show in the Spring.
Clive - As always you did a fabalous job hosting, right up to last nights finale. I have enjoyed watching you on Design to Sell, and now on Design Star. I am also excited to see that there will be a season 2 of Design Star. Kudos to you for a job well done - Stacey

I thought the best two designers made it to the finals. Alice has such a great camera presence that I hope some opportunities arise for her in that area. David had me sold with the creative use of fish bowls and dog chews in his pet store-designed room. I will never look at a pet store in the same way again! Congratulations to both of them. CLIVE, I adore you and your mischievious sense of humor. DESIGNED TO SELL and DESIGN STAR are my favorite shows.

This is one of the few design shows that I actually got some kind of interest from my husband in watching. Congrats to David on his new show that will showcase his great personality and wonderful gifts and to Alice for showing how to be gracious in what others would consider a defeat. I agree with the others that you should have just hired them both!!

Congratulations to David, and to Alice for having such tremendous class. David, you have incredible talent and sensitivity, and your laugh is just about infectious! What personality! The best of the best won, and Alice is as gracious, kind and thoughtful as they come. I wish you well with your new show, and like many others, hope you include Alice as your guest many times, or maybe co-host? She deserves good wishes as well. I've disliked and never watched reality shows, but this one got to me and did inspire me too. Clive, you're very fun to watch but I don't know if you can top this! David and Alice were fantastic!

Well far be it from me to gainsay the roaring masses, BUT i wouldn't say that the best designer won last night. David IS talented and seems to be very geniune in his enthusiam for design, however, I hope he broadens he design scheme some and stops being such a one trick pony. I know this sounds like sour grapes because I had Alice picked from the start but I just didn't see alot of varing styles or designs from David. Whereas, Alice brought her style into different places every week. Davids room in the park was BEAUTIFUL but so was Alices'. Would have been nice NOT to hear the judges GUSH over the ZEN DEN and truly let the public decide for themselves.
Both David and ALice were CLASS personified and it was a joy to see them both supporting each other like true friends. I thought DAvid was especially gracious when he was asked about his thoughts or who was going to win. I thought Alice was equally gracios about stepping immediately out of the spot light to let David Shine when he was announced as the winner. HGTV please consider Alice as a co-host with David. The chemistry between them is tanglible. Would defintely make me watch to see them together every week. I look forward to David's show. I hope he continues to show himself to be the caring and talented person that he is. Alice you were and still are MY pick. I voted, sorry it wasn't more. I guess it's true all things work for good. Looking forward to next season.

Hi David,
I'm so glad you won the number one spot for "Designer of HGTV," you deserved it. We one of the judges said you need to make a better presentation to the audience I was a litter nervous for you. Because your designs was so powerful and America needed to view you ideas. God Bless you in your new job. Make America proud, and I know you will. You are fun to watch. I'm a African American grandmother(60ish),and you will have no problem reaching a variety of people. I love HGTV.

Clive, That was a great show. It was good to see the other designers had a good sense of humor and the grace to be kind to each other afterwards. It is not easy to see and acknowledge one's own faults - let alone in front of millions of people.
I have weighed in repeatedly that David deserved to win and I am thrilled that he did. I would like to see Alice's talents showcased as well. Perhaps she can co-host or guest-host another show. I do not think she should get her own show (right away) because that would diminish David's prize that only one person gets their own show.
The show is fantastic and I look forward to the next season! I hope HGTV was smart enough to sign you on for all the coming seasons!

Clive, you are a host with exceptional talent. I love your quick whit and the control you are able establish among those around you with less television experience. I have enjoyed watching you in the past and hope you will continue to grace our screens in the future.

This series was excellent--even my husband had a few moments of interest. That says a lot!
Both Alice and David were standouts; I voted for Alice, but David is truly a winner.
As to the idea of Design Star 2, that is great, but I think Alice has that "something" (as does David) that you may not see again. Think about finding her a place in your galaxy!

Congratulations, David! Can't wait for your show to start next spring! Stay true to your style--it's great! I loved your Zen bedroom as well as any room that I have seen Vern Yip do--and that's saying a lot, because he has been my favorite designer for years.
Alice, you are an absolutely beautiful person, and I hope that we'll see you again soon. I wish you well in whatever life holds for you.
And congratulations, Clive and HGTV, for an absolutely superb show! Although there are certain shows that I like to watch on TV, I have never been truly hooked on one--until now. I was on the edge of my seat every week, and the suspense this last week was almost unbearable! (Just ask my husband, my suspense was hard for him to bear, too!)
I look forward with great anticipation to David's show and to Design Star II! Please be careful in your choice of contestants for Design Star II--no more Vanessa's (back-stabbers), no more Donna's and Temple's (cat-fighters), and no more Ramona's (well, we'll just leave it at that).
Again--congratulations, David--and congratulations to everyone involved for an absolutely wonderful show!

I watched the entire contest and looked forward to voting. It was really difficult to decide as both Alice and David are talented. I'm looking forward to David's first show. Alice, I hope your performance will bring you many, many new jobs in the future. Can a second season come even close to the 2006 season?

Congratulations to David! Congratulations to Alice! Congratulations to Clive! You were grand! I was completely intrigued by the show, especially the final episodes. Now a personal request...When/How can I sign up to be a family who gets to experience the wonderful designs of David? I have a home that's inundated with the outdated. Seriously, every room in my home needs a makeover from the 70s decor I acquired from its purchase.

David is terrifically talented. I found his website and fell in love with his innovative design. I am so happy he won. I do hope HGTV also invites Alice to host some specials. Her talents are also considerable. Although my family voted for David, we would have happily watched a program hosted by Alice.
This was a really interesting series. Great idea HGTV.

Congratulations, David! I am also sad to see that Alice lost when both of these candidates were absolutely wonderful!!! I would love to have seen the two of them work together on a show because they were both very competent and worked well together as well as alone! Clive, you and the "Judges" did an exemplary job of setting the tone for professionalism as well as courtesy for each others work! Absolutely LOVE the show and look forward to more!

I am happy for David, he is very talented and I will be looking forward to his show. I admit to not watching until the final three, sunday nights being a difficult tv night for me. But what brought me back after the first viewing was the "nice" factor I felt this show had, classy in the way I have come to expect of HGTV. Thank you.

Enjoyed the series. Happy for David. Sad for Alice. I do hope that HGTV will give us a chance to see Alice again. She's a natural for TV with such a warm personality. She makes you want to invite her into your home. I do have one complaint about the show: please do not ask the contestants who they think should be sent home. That is beneath HGTV and your viewers and your contestants. Don't stoop to Reality TV standards. It was an insult to the professionalism of everyone involved. Also, I agree with one of the other commentors: enough with the kvetching. We tuned in to see professional designers. Leave that kind of junk to the other channels. Rise above.
Clive: you're a hoot.

David will be a real Plus to the network, can't wait to see his show. I would Love to have either one of them as a business partner and FRIEND. Congratulations David!!! HGTV--what a grand gesture--giving the Mercury Mariners to the top two. Altho I glad she didn't win, it was nice that Alice didn't go home empty handed. Who knows how much this exposure will do for both of their careers.
I do hope the next challenge will have much more of the creative process, execution, and result; less of the background and horsing around and a NONE of the cat fighting, We want to see design, not soap opera, women putting on make up. and doing hiar. This supposed to be about design not personal hygiene.

HGTV, and especially its program developers, are to be congratulated on a truly wonderful show, DESIGN STAR. Given the chemistry between the two semi-finalists, David and Alice, which is apparently the equal of any chemistry between movie star couples over the years, it is too bad that both could not have won and been named co-hosts of the new show. Perhaps Alice could be a frequent guest on the new show. Both are also to be congratulated on doing a fantastic job. To them, and to you, we wish the best of luck. Looking forward to the new show!

Clive, I look forward to seeing you and Lisa every week. Terrific show.
When you showed up with 3 judges and 10 designers, I was apprehensive. Like many of the other bloggers, I don't do reality shows. But, I love you and HGTV. So, I hung in there. It took at least 2 minutes for me to get hooked.
It only took a few episodes for David to shine. He truly has the better eye for design. David and Alice are a delight to watch. I wish them both the best.

CONGRATS DAVID!!! You are so down to earth, and that was what we really love about you. But, all 8 of us watched weekly and each week just showed up more that you were the real Design Star. Though we were on the edge of our seats, knowing the vote wasn't from Designers, but regular viewers, we still knew in our hearts you were the clear choice. We are all looking forward to your new show!
We were also very happy to see the good guys in the top two. So often, it is the backbiting and pushy people who make it to the top - as seemed to be the case with the first few shows. Glad that David and Alice hung in to the end. It made for a much more enjoyable family show.
Though I appreciate the talent that HGTV chose for contestants, I'm hoping DS2 has a more evenly matched crew of contestants to make it a bit more interesting.
Clive, I wouldn't have wanted to be in your shoes for the world! (or your paycheck) Great job, can't imagine anyone else doing it with such poise.

LOVED the show! I think I watched the reruns 4 or 5 times! My favorite parts were - Clive & his dreaded paintcans, the judges lying on the bed in David's glass room, Tym telling Temple you can't hang cabinets in 2 minutes, everyone voting against Ramona's Miss Utah mural and then her painting it anyway, the twins, Alice's warmth & character, and David's beautiful designs.
I can't wait for Design Star 2 & David's show. Please create a show that allows him to design & not just host. Just from the messages here I know you could find several season's worth of people who want David to come & design or redesign their homes. Count me in!
And, I just loved Alice as a host, & think you should sign her up too.
Clive & the judges were especially important in the success of the show. Clive always kept it fun & surprising, and I thought the judges were ALL so smart & honest, but constructive too. Very nice touch to have the president of HGTV come in with the winning envelope.

Wow! What a great Finale! David and Alice were a pure joy to watch in every way.
I just wanted to comment on how impressed I was with the men on this show. David, Tym, Joseph, and the twins were true gentlemen. They were all kind, gracious, respectful and classy as well as talented. I do not know if they were innately gentlemen or their host, Clive, set the tone. Clive is the epitome of style and class. If we looked up the word Host in the dictionary there would probably be a picture of Clive, and rightly so!

I loved watching this show and to see the right person win at the end was absolutely fabulous!
Alice is a good designer but David is an incredibly talented designer who is passionate about his work. I would have been terribly disppointed if I had watched each episode and the best designer did not win. HGTV is lucky to have found David! Looking forward to seeing David in his new series next year!!

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy that you won!!! I prayed that you would win!! I love Alice as well, however your design skill and talent is truly unbeatable. Can't wait to see your new show on HGTV !!! Best of luck in your new career!!!!!

Congratulations David! While you were always my favorite Designer on the show and I'm very happy that you won, I must admit of being a bit sad for Alice. Her grace and positive attitude warmed my heart in a world where we focus so much on our own self-absorbsion! While I'm excited for David's new show (you're the man) I hope Alice is able to do what she loves and that is design! I would be proud to have both of you designing for my family!

Congrats to David! I knew from the first challenge that he would be the one to beat. I was so impressed with both finalists...their sincerity and friendship made this one reality show worth watching. Alice is one classy lady and her grace and dignity really should be seen as the example on how to "play the game". She never compromised herself or her morals and for that alone, she should be very proud.
Congrats go out to all the designers really, they put their hearts, souls and talent out there for the world to see and it truly was impressive to witness.

Congratulations David!
You were my pick to win, for so many reasons.
Seems everything has been said already about
you, Alice, the show and even Clive and his role. I'm sure you didn't sleep much last night and will have many more sleepless nights ahead of you as well as you anticipate your upcoming show. Being creative is not easy, but even harder when a time limit and resource limit is
placed upon you. Everyone did great on the show,
but you were awesome. Artisticly speaking -
you blew everyone away and I would have cried
had you not won. I can't wait to see your
show when it begins, because it's going to be
a huge success. Thanks to HGTV for a great show
that inspired us at home watching to think outside the box when it comes to our personal surroundings...and maybe even inspired some of us
a desire to let our creative spirit soar.
David your creativity will re-design our worlds
when we watch you next year.
Good luck and God Bless,
Barbara

Congrats to David as well as all of the designers for providing a fun show for us! David's designs were the best and he deserved to win. One piece of advice for David's new show as well as future Design Star episodes: Make sure everybody is fully clothed...we don't necessarily want to see the contestants judged by anything other than their design ability! Poorly edited final show, with awkward moments of audience laughter inserted, frequently in the wrong places ...a bit too "America's Funniest Home Videos" -like (not a good thing). Otherwise, prior to the finale, great show everybody!

Congratulations to David. He has warmth, charisma and is very likable. Above all though he has tremendous talent as a designer. His family must be very proud of him. Go, David!

I think they both did great! I was so amazed with the talents they've showed and I was truly inspired of their tremendous efforts. CONGRATS, DAVID! You're the best! Hope to see you soon on your new tv show. You did great!

If I had to vote for a personality, it would have been Alice, hands down! But because I voted based on design, David was, week after week, the strongest designer of the group. If you had Alice host a design show, I would watch it, just as I watch The Barefoot Contessa or Rachel Ray, for the comforting, entertaining, and warm and cozy feeling they evoke. HGTV, you really need to hire both of them!

CONGRALATIONS DAVID !!!
I KNEW FROM THE VERY FIRST SHOW YOU WAS THE WINNER. YOU WERE BLESSED WITH A GREAT TALENT, AND YOU USE IT VERY WELL. KEEP UP THE PRAYERS AND GOOD WORK, GOD BLESS YOU.

David: I loved the show and think you were fantastic. Although I know nothing about design, I know what I like and your designs were so imaginative. I wish you well and look forward to your show in the spring. By the way, my bathroom is SO outdated - come on to my house if you need to do a bathroom!
Sincerely,

Congratulations, David. It was fun watching your designs develop and all of your pleasant reactions even in diverse and adverse situations. You truly are a star and I look forward to seeing you and your new show. How would I get in line to be designed by you? Congratulations also to Alice. I hope you will include her in some of your shows, too.

Congratulations to David on getting his own show for HGTV. He can design for me anytime. Will there be a website set up soon where one can apply to have a room designed by David? Also, congratulations to Alice....I would also hire her to design for me if she lived in the same town as me. Clive, you were a great host and I love watching you.

I knew David would make it through to the end when he created a rug out of wood chips from the pet store! The judge was right... it was GENIOUS. But Alice's designs are so elegant that I'd like for her to have her own show as well. She could be right up there with Candace Olsen before long. I can't wait for season 2 of Design Star!
Posted by Vicki – September 11, 2006 10:50 AM
Love the show! Two suggestions for next season:
1. Don't require that at least one person be sent home each week. There might be challenges that show great things in all the contestants, and the judges might want to see more from them before making a final decision. The judges could have the option of having all of that week's contestants back. There would still be some drama and suspense over whether or not someone would be "canceled".
2. At least by the time America votes, could you tell us SOMETHING about what kind of show is being considered (if, in fact, there is already a concept)? If HGTV is looking for a host for a show they're already developing, knowing a little about the show might help us select the best contestant for that type of show.
I look forward to David's show, hope to see more of Alice, and anticipate season #2!

I enjoyed watching the show. I look foward to another season of Design Star and the paint cans. Congratulations to David. I cannot wait to see David's show. I will miss Alice I hope we can see her from time to time. David can come design a room in my house any time. I will watch you Clive on Designed to sell. I get a lot of good ideas for my home on that show.

Initially we thought that this would be like all the other "reality shows" which we dislike, but around the third show we caught the end of that show and became hooked!
I agree with others postings...David was chosen as the winner..by virtue of the votes..and his design talents were excellent.yet Alice was also a WINNER in her attitude, approach and thoughfulness in her designs. Also she is a beauty!
All in all a great show, looking forward to the new season!
Kudos to all involved!

It was a great show but I must say it was too short. I wish there were more contestants and only one cancellation per episode. A big congratulations to David for winning. He's my favorite but Alice too is fabulous. I think the last four deserved to be there. How about having a show with four of them as designers? And Mr. Clive, what an excellent job!!! Can't wait for the next season.

Clive, I LOVED the show. Loved the video clips of everyone, not even Vern escaped the ribbing! Your crew did a fabulous job with that. Everyone one was amazing! I was so upset that someone had to lose. I wanted to see David and Alice both win. They both deserved it! It was heartwarming to see such sportmanship, such class, such grace under pressure, such good humor, such comraderie, such respect as exhibited by Alice and David. Your parents must be very proud of you!
Posted by Jane – September 11, 2006 10:40 AM
Congrats to David! I know you'll do an excellent job and I will be watching for your new show.
Congrats to Alice, too! She showed that it is possible to compete yet still show class and integrity.
If HGTV doesn't snap Alice up for her own show, they've missed the boat on a great new talent.
The friendship and chemistry between Alice and David was tangible and came across through the screen. It's obvious that both made a wonderful friend for life.
I'll be looking to see how both do in the future.

Posted by Edie – September 11, 2006 10:23 AM
Congratulations to David. Still think Alice and David could really create a great show together, but the competition was set up to find one winner. HGTV--Please consider having David invite Alice to guest on his show a few times. I suspect we never really got to see the creative potential of either of these two designers, but it was fun to watch all the competition.

Great show, Clive. I wish both Alice and David could have their own shows, they are both very talented and fun to watch. Alice is a true southern girl. She showed graciousness and true joy at the win of her new friend. I hope she will show up on HGTV soon, she's a natural.

Perfect! David was awesome with his acceptance in being America's Design Star. The whole episode was an experience, sitting on the edge of the seat...wondering...wondering who would be the chosen one to exit the slamming, steel door. Alice was so gracious, and her demeanor is exceptional. I couldn't help but remember when she stood so proudly, defying those judges who axed her design lead. Taking care to aid him and telling the world they should all be exiting the door, speaks highly of her ethics. I loved the "out takes" of back stage romps and watching their faces as they viewed what we saw at the last moments of the final show. It was hillarious in seeing those paint cans loom at David and Alice. The expressions on their faces only enlarged what they must have expected. Actually, I thought American voters must have given them a draw and the paint cans held the "you've got to pick who wins" choice. HGTV went above the norm in giving them an auto and I applaud them in doing so. It lets us know HGTV was thinking they have "two" stars and possibly two slots for these talented design stars. Maybe not for the up coming year but future shows. Thanks to HGTV, Clive and the judges for allowing the viewers a chance to be part of the Design Star finale. Joyce from Arkansas

Congratulations to all involved! I loved watching this show and look forward to the next one. I voted for David. I have no expertise but knew I could happily live in any of the spaces he designed. Alice was wonderful as well, but I disagree when people say she should co-host. Did anyone watch "The Apprentice" when Donald Trump asked the winner if he would share the prize and he answered that there was only one apprentice. Although as gracious as David is, he would probably not object, but it would detract from his winning. As a guest, however, she would be wonderful. I, too, am impressed with all the contestants. Reality TV seems to thrive on backstabbing and bickering, and after watching this show, I felt no need to take a shower! They all seemed to have fun and to truly encourage each other. I hope the next batch of contestants for DS2 will learn from the mistakes of the only two who were backbiting and petty and who LOST and emulate the other contestants instead to keep the momentum going on this upbeat show. A big thanks to HGTV, Clive, and the judges for a truly entertaining program!

I have to agree with all the congrats to the show and David for a job well done. How about a using the same theme for a new gardening show host-a bit more challenging, but definitely one people would watch since gardening is the top hobby in the US.

David: My daughter adores you and she is only 9! Since the show was late for her (school night), she made me promise to let her know you won! Great finale, congratulations...You were the best of them all!
Can't wait for your show in the Spring 07....just make sure you invite Alice for a guest spot. She has talent too!

The contestants were a diverse and interesting group. But one really stood out for me, especially toward the end, and that was Alice. She did an amazing job of representing Southern women, one of which I am proud to be, as well as women in general. She is honest, polite, kind, well-spoken, thoughtful of others, tender-hearted yet of firm mettle...the list goes on and on. She is also an amazingly talented designer. Even without a "Design Star" TV show of her own, her talent and genteel, gracious qualities will serve her well in all her future endeavors. That said, I am also proud to see such a personable and talented fellow Floridian embarking on a new career as HGTV's first Design Star. Congratulations David!

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID!!!! I shall say it wasn't a surprise when I found out you had won! You deserve to be the next DESIGN STAR! Alice was great, the professionalism both of you exuded was awesome! But it made my day, knowing that your talent did not go un-noticed. Your designs each one different and a master piece. I hope Alice continues to follow her dreams. I am so happy that yours came true!!! You are AWESOME!!!!! I can't wait for your show!

I never watch reality or mainstream TV because I hate to be disappointed. I took a chance on Design Star just because I love the channel. I watch about four hours or HGTV per day and more on the weekend. I have watched Design Star from episode one - hooked only after about ten minutes - and I have watched the reruns over and over and also On Demand - I LOVED THIS SHOW.
CONGRATULATIONS & GREAT JOB DAVID!!! You were clearly the right person to win. Your star shined through and I am so very happy you won - you had all of my votes :) You are truly talented and obviously love what you do. I can't imagine the stress of competing with the other designers but you handled it all so well. You know what you're doing - able to sketch out the design before it's put together, you look closesly at your spaces for inspiration and I could see the wheels of conceptual designs spinning. You related well to everyone - even when things got a little frantic. And, well you have a rockin' body and a wickedly cute grin - a little eye candy is always nice. Well done. I am so happy to say you proved yourself in more ways than one. From episode one you had my vote. When Clive said David - you are our design star, I was overjoyed. I jumped off the couch - I am just so thrilled for you. I'll be watching!!!
You can design my home ANY DAY!

I would rush home from the shore every Sunday night to see the show. Last night I left extra early to be sure I could be home by 9:00 PM. Thoroughly enjoyed watching you win!! Your talent will shine in your new show.

Congratulations David and Alice, in my book, you are both winners. David, I think you are a genius in design, you sold me with the indoor/outdoor rock garden in the glass house! Having said that, Alice's designs are wonderful in that they convey the idea of HOME...livable...comfortable. Truly, you are both winners!! Anxiously looking forward to another great season and more from ALICE & David!

Clive handled a VERY difficult job with style and heart. Kudos for that.
Alice and David showed great class and both well deserved to be there. I was fairly sure David would win, which he did. I still think HGTV should strongly consider having David and Alice somewhat share that show's time. David produces sleek with perspective.....but Alice brings warmth to the table which David lacks.
Again the entire production was a high step up from the current mess of reality shows. Design Star had a genuine purpose with a positive outcome for the contestants.
Well done.

Wonderful show - and many congratulations to David for a well-deserved win.
It was great seeing all the designers together, and having the opportunity to see them in a more relaxed setting. The clips were terrific.
May I suggest, Clive - that you do an update show in a few months? It would be nice to see how all the other designers are doing, and how exposure on Design Star has affected their careers.
Outstanding show any way you look at it - and I'm delighted to hear we'll have another to look forward to, with Clive as the perfect host.

I watched this show with my 11-year-old daughter, who is waffling between careers in design or law (she has talent in both!). We both loved David's creativity and style from the beginning, and are thrilled with his success. My daughter was literally on the edge of her seat as you prepared to announced the winner, Clive, and her cheers when David was announced drowned out those on the TV! David's style is very close to hers, and I know she will learn a lot from his show.
However, while I voted for David as the best designer, I absolutely adored Alice. She is so sweet and warm, and I think I would personally feel more at home in one of her designs. Please, HGTV, don't make the mistake of losing Alice! While we recognize David's brilliance, not everyone can live comfortably with it on a day-to-day basis. There are still a lot of us out here who love more traditional design and, while I'm sure David is more than capable of doing country or lodge, he really shines at the more modern, artistic, edgier look. Both David and Alice together would be a phenominal mix!
Clive, thanks for a wonderful job as host. You are warm and wise and a total hoot!!!! HGTV, thank you for programming I can share with my daughter.

Good luck to all.

Our family doesn't watch reality shows because they are so vicious and play up and manipulate the weaknesses of others unmercifully. Your show however intrigued us and we took a "wait and see attitude" after the first episode. Too our delight it was actually "real". Thank you for a fine, constructive, and entertaining show. Congratulations to David and to Alice for her grace. Looking forward to next "Design Star".

Clive,
I have never ever liked "reality" shows but I must admitted, your show just was one that could not be ignored. The contestants were well chosen, the judges top notch and the host fantastic. Congratulations on a terriffic and entertaining show. All the contestants were great with the stressful situation they were put in. It had to be tough for the judges each week but I have to go along with their decisions. The analysis of each situation was right on. Anyone of them would be welcomed to design a room or loft for me any day. Glad to hear that it will be back next year. Keep up the great work as well as the wonderful sense of humor. It adds a lot to the presentation.
Until next season, best regards,

BRAVO for the cast, the crew the host and HGTV for a great show. I think the best man won (for many reasons) and the best woman came in second. I can't help but think that she will pop up someplace. In the mean time. David, cant wait to see you on a weekly basis.

What an incredible show! Kudos to HGTV, and kudos to Clive and the judges. It's so refreshing, unlike Project Runway, to see judges who acknowledge the positve, offer constructive criticism, without being condescending, and showtrue impartiality.
David I love you, and I hope that you never change. You're a beautiful, talented, and charismatic man. You are now, and will be even more so in the future, a truly positive role model for our community. If you start dressing in drag and become another Christopher Lowell, I hunt you down and hurt you! ;-)
Alice, you're truly amazing, also. Your concern and genuineness absolutely comes through the screen loud and clear! If there were one alternate ending that I had hoped for, it would have been if HGTV gave you a show also! You have it all, too. I hope HGTV management realizes your talent and great potential and capitalizes on it!
Congratlations to you both!

It was very touching how David fought through the throng to give Alice a huge hug. What wonderful people they are. It's refreshing to see good, talanted people finish on top. :)

Clive, your were a terriffic host as always. Enjoyed seeing more of you and your personality. Very glad there is going to be another Designer Star, it's one of the best. See you on "Designed to Sell".

Congratulations, David!
I loved both Alice and David. Besides being so talented, they were both so positive and such fun to watch. When those paint cans appeared last night, I had a moment of hope - that both were getting their own show. Well....one can hope, yes? =)
Job well done all around. Good luck, David - and I really wish HGTV would find a way to utilize Alice's talents. She is a pure delight.

From the very first show, David seemed to have the inate ability to take every design to a higher level than anybody else could. He design is genius, and I look forward to seeing what he will bring to his new show. He didn't get involved in the petty arguments, and had kind words for everyone. He seems to be a genuine, warm person who would have been sincerely happy for Alice if she had won instead of him. Kudos to his parents, who obviously gave him solid values, and taught him how to compete with honor. Congratulations, David!

Congratulations on the big win! You have such great talent, very creative you are! Many wishes for a great career.
Alice, were such a great designer and very kind. I really had no idea who would win. I just know that both David and yourself were the 2 that belonged as the final 2. Good luck in your future and see you on David's show sometime.

Will the shows producers please, please consider Alice as one of the judges for Design Star season 2...I think she would be a perfect choice, and we all get to see her again =)

Clive,
Congratulations to you all!!! Thank you so much for another great job, on another great show. I have enjoyed you tremendously on Designed To Sell. Lisa LaPorta is so talented, and the two of you make such a great team.
I must admit the first segment or so of Design Star shocked me so much (I was not prepared to hear "Your show has been cancelled", and "Please exit the studio". I didn't know if I wanted to see the end result. (I don't normally watch "Reality TV"). However, I decided to stick with it, and watched the segments more than once. I got hooked!
David stood out from the beginning. He is truly awesome. I was soooo pleased to see him win. However, Alice has nothing to be sad about. She is a star in her own right, just like him.
I wish them the ABSOLUTE BEST!!! YOU TOO!
Aloha,
Barbara

The show is an EXCELLENT concept! Congrats, David! I hope someday when I can afford to, YOU can remodel our house for us! You have such creativity and resourcefulness, I totally loved your decorating style when they sent you to a pet shop. Man, you are such an artist! I loved Alice too, she is such a sweetheart, and such a smart and pretty girl. I hope to see more of you both in HGTV! HGTV is the best channel ever! Oh, and PLEASE put Home to Go back, that was my most favorite show ever. HGTV rocks!!!!

Excellent finale to an excellent show!
Clive, as host, did his usual fabulous job. :-)
David and Alice are both talented and classy people. While David won (congrats, David!), Alice was no less deserving and has my total respect for her graciousness and professionalism. I hope HGTV would consider having her back as a guest designer on one of their other shows.
Best wishes to them both!

Congratulations to David! I must admit that I favored my fellow Texan, Alice, but it was close! I ended up splitting my votes between the two and pledged my support to the winner. I do hope that Alice will be invited as a guest on David's show.
Clive---you helped make this show a great one! But I don't envy you and others having to choose another group of designers with the caliber of most in this group. It was so wonderful watching two finalists having such sincere admiration and encouragement for the other. I think that is a reality show "first".
P.S. I wonder how many recording devices besides mine were recording THE PATH TO 911 on ABC while sitting glued to the Design Star finale?

What a great show! I don't like reality shows but this was good. I missed the beginning but got hooked later. I loved David's style when he did the room using items from the pet store -- what creativity! From there and until the end, it was David for me as the winner of this show.
Posted by Lyn – September 11, 2006 4:10 AM
Wow, what a GREAT FINALE! I laughed...I cried...I cheered...I sighed. My heart-felt congratulations to David--you are most deserving and I absolutely CANNOT WAIT until Spring 2007 to see what you do with your new show. (Do we really have to wait that long before we see anything from you again? I'm going to go through withdrawals not having you come into my home every week. I miss you already.)
As for the finale, I enjoyed the playful video clips of the contestants at their best and worst, and I was moved by the touching emotional scenes as well. I found David's and Alice's strength in character, graciousness and sportsmanship conduct so admirable and inspiring. It was truly wonderful and refreshing to see this kind of portrayal on today's reality television.
Best of luck to all the contestants. I feel like I know all of you--like I was right there beside you during the challenges--and I fell in love with each of you along the way. I hope to see more from all of you in the future. Please keep us posted on your progress and success via HGTV or perhaps your own website? (Just a suggestion.)
HGTV, you have a hit on your hands with "Design Star" and most likely will have another when David's new show begins. I'll be counting the days until then!

Congratulations Clive and HGTV!!! What a fantastic series of shows! I HATE reality shows...but this one hooked me because I love HGTV!
Both Alice and David are very talented!
Congratulations to David....he really pulled if off! Can't wait for his show to start!

This show was spectacular! I started watching after the 2nd show and I was hooked! I kept giving it 10 minutes and 10 minutes and by the end of the show, I was hooked!
I am sooo...glad the final two were Alice and David, although I liked Tym too! They all did well! It was exciting to see both Tym and Temple come back. I hope HGTV brings them back again.
I have to admit I didn't vote, I couldn't decide between the two. They were both my favorites from the beginning, both expressing much, much poise and graciousness throughout! Although, I thought David was more talented in the design overall, and Alice was much more comfortable (and soothing)in front of the camera.
David, Congradulations! (Congratulations to Alice too!) I hope you have Alice on your show. Tym and Temple too! You are all fun to watch and offer innovative ideas!
Clive, it was nice seeing you host, you did a wonderful job. Design to Sell has been my favorite show. (Until this distracted me!) Keep up the good work! I really enjoyed listening to Vern's comments as well!
Warmest Thoughts,
Julie

What a bittersweet night! Of course it was wonderful finding out that David is the new Design Star. He is talented, imaginative, enthusiatic and has a kind heart - he will be a great addition to the HGTV family.
Of course, those of us who are now confirmed Design Star 'addicts" are sad that the show is done for now, and that we will have to wait until next year for another. But I am sure it will be worth the wait!
Looking forward to the behind-the-scenes shows coming up, and hoping for the return of Vern Yip to the panel. He is an amazing talent - I love his work, and his attitude.
Clive, you have been a favorite of mine from Designed to Sell, so your hosting of this show was a real treat for me - more Clive Time on HGTV! You are witty, sharp and gracious, with just enough sarcasm and self-deprecation to remain genuine. Your contract with HGTV had better be a long one, for their sake!
My only hope is that the show David gets is truly a showcase for his talents, not just a rehash of the 'cheap designs for the twenty-somethings' that seems to be taking over HGTV lately. Let's give him a format that allows his style to shine!
Alice was a wonderful competitor, and has a genuinely warm style that would make her a great host. A show on creating comfortable and affordable family spaces would be a perfect vehicle for her.
I would also hope that HGTV would try to develop something to use Tym's great personality, and Joseph's great design talent. Lots of potential for success with both of them.
Hats off to my favorite channel (and pretty much my only one, besides the cable news networks) for a wonderful show, and a great way to spend the summer!
I have a new dream - I'd love to be on Design Star!

DAVID I AM SO GLAD YOU WON, PRAYED FOR YOU FRM THE BEGINNING. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU INVITE ALICE AS A GUEST, ESPECIALLY IF YOU NEED TO DO A LITTLE GIRLS ROOM. I THINK SHE WOULD BE A GREAT ASSET TO YOU. I AM HOPING THAT YOUR SHOW IS SOMETHING THAT DOES ROOMS ON A BUDGET SO THAT US MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE CAN LEARN FROM YOU.

Hi Clive,
Love HGTV, you, and Design Star! I am so happy that David won. I loved his design for the glass house. He is so talented. Alice is such a sweetheart and both are winners in my book. HGTV is my favorite channel!!!

I sense a real consensus here--David the host with Alice as sidekick (partner). Sounds like a guaranteed hit in the making. I have to wait for a repeat of the show--had to work during the first airing and can't wait to see it. My TV automatically signs on to HGTV and next years' Design Star will be eagerly awaited! Thanks for a great show and congrulations to both David and Alice!!!!

If David is a smart man, he will have Alice on his show regularly. I think they would make an awesome team. This is an excellent show. One of the extremely few reality show I watch.

Although David showed us his great design talent in every week's challenge, I was not sure how America was going to vote. But I'm glad that David won. David, I think that you are a design genius. I loved all your work. Even my seven year old son thought that you were going to win. I recorded all the episodes so that I can watch it over and over. David and Alice deserved to be the last two contestants. They were two great people. Clive, you were fun to watch. I can't imagine anyone else hosting the show but you.
Posted by Juris – September 11, 2006 3:21 AM
Clive,
First and foremost, you are a WONDERFUL Host! Your wit, style, humor and sense of propriety are truly inspirational. You prove that you don't have to be catty and malicious to have a GREAT show. I have NEVER watched a reality show before (not even 1 minute of 1 episode...), but I decided to watch 'Design Star' because I love HGTV and 'Designed to Sell'. I've become hooked and I look forward to the next season of 'Design Star'. The two finalists were excellent. David's designs were phenomenal - especially the Asian/Zen inspired room and I love his use of color. I hope Alice gets another opportunity to shine; she's a gracious woman with a warm and engaging personality. Congratulations and best wishes to you and David. I look forward to both of your shows. Please invite Vern back for season 2; he's the ultimate professional and his feedback is always right on target.
Thank you,
Becky

Hi Clive!
What a finale! i found myself smiling, crying and especially nervous when you're about to anounce the winner. I felt the energy and emotions of everyone in the show.
Clive, you are such a terrific host! I've never been so hooked to a reality show like this one. All the designers were all talented but David's design shines through everytime.
Congratulations David! You truly deserve it and can't hardly wait to watch your new show!
I like Alice too, she's very gracious and i wish her all the best and it would be a nice surprise to see her guest in David's show.
Thank you, May

My first reality tv series and it was a terrific experience. I could not wait for each episode to unfold. I loved your hosting Clive and the critique of the three judges. I wish there could have been two winners as well. Both finalists were a class act. I hope that David has guests and includes the other three of the final four on his upcoming show. This was so much fun, thanks Clive and HGTV.

Design Star was terrific! As Vern and others said, both Alice and David did what professionals, at the top levels,
couldn't have accomplished in such an extremely brief time. While I'm happy for David, I believe that HGTV is loosing an outstanding talent in Alice. So many have grown to love her and her style. I truly hope that HGTV will find a great
program for her, as well. Alice has beauty in design, in personal presence, and in outstanding kindness and integrity. I wish that HGTV would create a program that features traditional, classic home designs, with Alice as the star.

The critical judges on one side, the nervous contestants on the other, with the "Charm Master" Clive in the middle, provided a perfect juxtaposition for a successful, creative endeavor... very cool! I appreciate the clever casting. But, how do you replicate the engaging personalities and compelling talent of David and Alice? David, you really do rock! Talent AND Personality all in one... can't wait for your show! What I wouldn't give to have you help me with my little kitchen! You're going to have clients lined up for months just to get your ideas! I'm so very happy for you... congratulations! And Clive, Yaaay! Another season of watching you, too!

I would first like to congratulate you, Clive, for becoming United States Citizen. I've
been watching you on Designed to Sell from day one when it started airing on HGTV. I am
so happy you will be on five times a week now. You did such a fantastic job hosting
Design Star and I am so glad to hear that your show hasn't been canceled and that there
will be another Design Star in the future. I never ever watch reality shows but I got
hooked on Design Star from the very first show. All the Contestants were special in their
own way.
Congratulations to David! He was my favorite from the start but as each week passed I
was more positive than ever that he should be the winner. I can't wait to see his show
next spring.

This was an extremely well put together show. I enjoyed all episodes from the beginning. About half way through I could see that David would be the next Design Star. He has a wonderful personality as well as a LOT of talent. I'm sure he would be a delight to have for a friend. My husband voted for Alice so you see we loved them both. Good luck to the ones who didn't win. They are NOT losers. They were all fun to watch. I look foreward to the new show.

Congrats to David!!! A very talented and nice person. Glad to hear there will be a Design Star 2. Hope that Clive is the host and that Vern Yip is back as a judge. For next time... the first two challenges should be individual efforts, not team projects. I felt like I never got to see what Joseph was capable of because of the team nature of the first two projects.

Way to go David. I voted for you and America didn't let me down. I can't wait for your new show and wish you the best of luck on a star-filled career. Take care and also I wanted to tell Clive that he did a great job hosting the show. I'm anxious to see season 2!

Congratulations, David. I was rooting for you all the way - your design aesthetic is so strong and so creative, it blows my mind. Cannot wait for your show in 0207. Clive, wonderful job - you were cool and smooth and looking forward to Season 2. Hope to see the same judges - they were incisive and constructive with their comments. Loved the finale and to see the contestants again. Alice is absolutely adorable and what a wonderful example of integrity and poise.

Congratulations to Design Star for showcasing the skills of two great designers who are not only talented, but seem to be refreshingly genuine and down to earth people. It is so good to see someone get ahead without being self involved and bringing others down. I would love to see a show with Alice, too. She has the best personality I have seen on your channel. As much as I love design, I can't help but be turned off by certain personalities. I love Vern as a judge and Clive as a host, also. Designed to Sell is one of my favorites. Keep up the good work!

Clive ,boy do you have charm ,quick on your feet .
I really liked Tim alot because of his hosting skills and he was a interesting designer . In the end David deserved to win . Alice is just so cute.

One fabulous series. What a nail biter! I so loved both David and Alice, right from day one. It's fabulous for David - a dream come true. I do hope that HGTV will find a niche for Alice as well - she's a natural. What I most appreciated about this show was the graciousness and caring of most of the designers. They competed with dignity, and reintroduced us to manners and good sportsmanship - something that we seem to have lost of late. Thank you.
Posted by Karen – September 11, 2006 2:10 AM
Congrads David. You told America thank you and now America says your welcome. You have done an excellent job not only with your designs but also the professionalism that you and Alice showed was of the highest quality and that type of role model is what this country needs more of, so once again congradulations.

I hope that all the contestants find their careers boosted by this experience. David's talent shone through. Last week, scrolling through the posts people made on Clive's blog, I was pretty sure it would end up this way. Alice is talented and charming, as are many of the other contestants, so I'm glad they all got the exposure.
This show has been the first reality show I've actually watched all the way through. The challenges seemed fairer and more reasonable than what I watched last week on Top Chef, and I believe the contestants were treated humanely. If contestants are treated badly, I will stop watching--which is why I've never followed another reality show to completion.
By the way, I think David should be REQUIRED to take his shirt off periodically. (I guess that's not very humane of me, treating him like a sex object).
Anyway, I look forward to watching his new show--not just for his appearance, but to see his great creative work and infectious good attitude.

Clive,
In this time of reality "Star", "Idol" shows, HGTV not only exceeded in putting out the best yet, but "Design Star" was done with class! Choosing between David and Alice was very difficult. They are both so genuine and talented. Congratulations to both of them. HGTV had better grab Alice before someone else does. David will have a loyal fan in me. Also Clive, love your shows. Thrilled to know there will be a second season of Design Star.
Posted by Carol – September 11, 2006 2:08 AM
David you're the best! I couldn't possibly have voted for anyone else, from the beginning. Alice was great too, but it had to be you. I can't wait for next season's show. I loved this one. I laughed and I cried right along with the designers! Hooray for Clive, what a host!!!
Posted by Darlene – September 11, 2006 2:05 AM
Congratulations to David! He was my favorite all along; his joyful personality and his designs were a breath of fresh air. I knew he'd win America's hearts and the whole competition.
I can't wait for the second season!

Congrats to David. It was a well deserved win. He will bring new ideas and art design into what ever kind of show theme is set up for him. I do hope he has some say in production ideas for his show....like having Alice on as a guest at least once. He has a bright future in front of him. May he stay genuine to who he is without compromising his personality, or letting TV stardom spoil him in any way.
HGTV, please let us know how Alice is doing in her career. She deserves plenty of Kudos for getting as far as she did, and is a sincere and deserving person also.
I think she would be great as a guest designer on some of your other shows.
Very happy to hear that another season of Design Star is in the making Clive. You make a great host who is very likely the reason why many people tuned in to Design Star in the first place.
HGTV producers made the right choices all around for a real winner of a show. Every one must be busting their buttons over it's success.

I was hoping you'd win as you are so talented! Can't wait to see more of your designs. I'm a Web designer and so I know great design when I see it and you definitely have a great future in store for you. Now if I can just get you to redesign my house! Alice was a sweetie also, I hope she can co-host your show with you now and then as well as some of the other "design stars".
Clive, you are a fabulous and gracious host! Love your watching your shows!

David you are so talented - I look forward to your show. Alice, I hope to see you on TV too - I really enjoyed your designs and your personality. I found myself (about half way through the show) not really wanting to know who won - not wanting a choice to have to be made! I will definately watch the next season - this has been a great show.

The final four were all so interesting. A great mix of personalities and styles. The way that Temple and Tym helped in the last episode was so commendable. It said a lot about their professionalism. Alice and David were great together.
In the end, David really knocked one out of the park! Congratulations David. I'm really looking forward to your show.

David was the winner from the start and I think his first show should be designing my house! I popped my California bubble and sold my 900 sq. ft. house for a 3,900 sq. ft. gutted house in Washington state. A year later and I'm still working hard everyday. David I need you!
Congratulations to HGTV. Well done!

Congratulations!!! I am so happy and very excited you win the competition. I will always watch the show and voted you as well. You did a great job and all your designs are incredible. You deserve to win because you are talented and a respectable person. I also extend my appreciation to Clive as an inspiring host for the show. David deserved to win on talent - and his show will be wonderful. I'm so glad Alice didn't come away empty handed - and I do hope that HGTV will be bright enough to pick up on the fact that she also came across as such a genuine, caring person and was much loved - and find her a place - maybe as an introducer somewhere.

Great Series!! I also wish they could both have a show. Both David and Alice are very talented, and I wish them every happiness. Congradulation to them both for talent, professionalism, honesty, consideration of others and fun! Hope to see them BOTH in the furture! Thank you, Marcy

HI Clive and Home & Garden
I really enjoyed watching Design Star. I was so happy to see how well everyone seemed to get along on this show. There was competition and some arguing--as would happen when people are so in such close quarters, but it seemed to be kept to a minimum. I appreciated that. It shows that one does not have to blame and tear everyone else down to win. I really feel that both David and Alice are big winners, as are all of those who were chosen for the show. Thank you for the good job you did. And congratulations David!

Clive, I took advice from your Designed to Sell show.(I'm watching it now)I was able to make above the asking price for my house when I sold it. Thank you so much. The Design Star is great and I love both Alice and David. Congrats to David. Looking fwd to all the shows next season.

Clive, you are the most fun to watch! Whatever show you host, we will be there to support you. My husband and I believe you are worth watching, even above football games! That's really something in the South. :)
Congrats to David (my vote) for his outstanding designs and to Alice for her good sportsmanship and lovely personality.
Vern, you're our home boy, and we love you!

Clive,
You are the reason I watched this show! I would not have turned it on if you were not the host. I LOVE Design to Sell (YOUR's and Lisa's) and thought you made this show!
I would not have been interested in viewing without you!
Great job!

Congratulations to David! He's a little bit kooky and fun and, at the same time, one of the most creative designers I've seen. I truly look forward to watching his show on HGTV.
And best wishes to Alice. I have no doubt that she will benefit enormously from her appearances on Design Star -- she is a wonderful personality and designer, too.
Both of these finalists deserve every good thing that comes to them.
Clive, you did a fabulous job running this show. Season Two will begin with a huge viewership because of the excellent response to Season One.

Congratulations David! You did a fantastic job. Can't wait to see your show. I don't usually make time to see any type of reality show, but I made time for this one. Aside from her talent, Alice's poise, grace, and personality made watching this show a special treat. It isn't often you see such a genuinely lovely person on TV, and certainly never on a reality show. Please let her know she inspired me to always be gracious and ever kind. Can't wait for season 2.

congratulations david, i absolulately loved your designs. my son would come over to my house every sunday and we would watch design star. we were so hooked. although we both voted for david for his marvelous designs, we just fell in love with alice's bubbaly personality. clive you did a great job and the judges were equally impressive. we will be looking forward to david's show and the next design star. david wear that smile with confidence cuz you sure deserve it. thank you america for helping us vote for the best. alice squeeze your way in on your friend for life's show. love to see you again.

Loved the show! I'm a decorating junkie... actually, its the best thing on TV these days. Too bad both Alice and David couldn't win... they make a great pair, fun to watch, great complimentary personalities....
Love watching Clive too!

Way to go David! Your design style (like Vern's) is not my favorite, but somehow, your work was usually one of my favorites. David & Alice...you both were awesome...and truly genuine people. There's only one thing that would have made this show better...if you both could have done a show together. You both make the best team!

I was glued from the very start and already picked my namesake from the very first episode! By the time David and Alice were left, I knew it will be David who will win with his deadly combination of talent and charisma. But I had to make sure so I voted twice a day (thru hgtv.com and text) from Sunday to Wednesday!

What a great show! Clive- well done! David and Alice, what a joy to watch both of you- I only wish you could have BOTH won! It would be super to see Alice as a guest on David's program. I am so looking forward to watching his program in the Spring.

Congrats David! I was routing for you throughout the season and knew I would see you succeed whether you won or not. I'm very excited to see your new show and wish you all the best! =)
Clive, it was a great show. Thanks for hosting and I will see you on your regular programming.

HGTV will have a GREAT new show - can't wait to see it! Congratulations David! We were so excited for you! Your mom looked so cute when you won too! My 6 year old was a big Alice fan and was quite sad she didn't win. She was also mad at me for voting for David... I told her not to worry, Alice will be just fine :-) Obviously they are both talented, but the custom built furniture and art in David's designs just rocks!!! My house is your house any time you want to come by - its full of potential and not so full of furniture. hint, hint, come to Wisconsin, I can't find anyone close to your talent here....
Congratulations!

HOORAY!!!! David won! Congratulations to David! I loved his work. He has great taste. I totally knew he'd win after seeing how consistent he was. Especially after seeing the pet shop inspired room. That blew me away. I can't wait to see his show in the spring.
CLIVE - What can I say? You were marvelous. Charming, witty, and clever as always. And by the way I Love the new "Design to Sell" commercials. I particularly like the one of the kid on the couch playing video games. No one could deliver those lines and make them as funny as you do. I laugh every time I see that commercial.

I really enjoyed the show. Congratulations to David. His designs were the best. I voted for Alice because I really liked her personality. I hope that she is able to have a show as well. I look forward to next season.

Hey Clive,
You did an amazing job hosting Design Star. I love watching you on Design to Sell with Lisa so I thought this show might be good. Soo glad I decided to watch it. I don't watch a lot of reality TV, but you can believe I will watch season two of Design Star.
David, congratulations to you. I think your designs were excellent and I too think your style is a lot like Vern's. I love it!! I look forward to your show!
Alice, you too did a tremendous job with your designs. You represented the South well!:) I don't feel sad for you like the others. I think you can, and will take this experience and turn it into a positive thing in your life! Bet we will see you on HGTV oneday too!
To the judges...my hats off to you! You didn't only judge them, you offered guidance. They were able to learn so much from you...if they listened..some didn't..lol! Great job, Great Show!!!
Clive, thanks for the blogs..enjoyed reading them all!

This was a really intersting contest, and some of the designs really could give one ideas for their own spaces. I really loved Alice's "man cave" - my son called the room he and my husband shared for TV and PCs that before the show, so I knew the task she had. David and Alice really had the most skill and knowledge, and I think with the others that they all need more actual schooling, but Tym was close behind. I really think that his apt. makeover was excellent, and perhaps the owner did not care to have her walls cluttered!
I was very glad to see that Temple and Tym got to help out on the last design implementation. They were hard workers on the gritty stuff like painting and construction. Tym deserves a medal for his construction of the headboard that fit thru the door! And Temple came through on the vellum windows beautifully. God bless all of them, and I really do think that Alice should be given some airtime. Perhaps youcould start a show somewhere besides in CA (where i used to live). If I were rich enough to afford a designer to help out with my gnarly new house, I would invite her. I live near Hosuton!
Clive, you are one cool dude! I love your and Lisa's partnership on Designed to Sell. You are great to watch when you work with tired, cross or weepy owners who can't see the end. Keep it up! And I will be watching!

Congratulations David! We were rooting for you up here in the Boston area! Your designs are really amazing, witty, and stunning. We really would like to see Alice back on HGTV in the future too; she's got such natural design as well as TV talent.
Clive, always a pleasure to see you. I watch Designed to Sell shows over and over again because you make me laugh and you work SO well with Lisa...wait a minute - you don't actually "work" at all on the show (-:

Bravo David!
From day one I knew you were the winner. You were the ONLY ONE who showed true overall designer quality and skills. Your voice, your eyes, your looks, your manners, your attitude and more than anything, your designs, won me over from the very first second.
Congratulations!!!!
I can't wait to be glued to my TV watching your show.
Posted by Karla – September 11, 2006 12:31 AM
Congratulations to all the designers!! I admire the courage you had to even be on the show. I always wanted to try some of the designs that I saw on HGTV shows, but lacked the confidence. After I watched the first couple Design Star episodes, I decided to give it my best shot. I had so much fun:) I have a "robin's egg" blue bath with a fish theme and a "hint of lavender" bedroom with various yellow & green flower fabrics for accents. Not to mention; a future "sunny" flower yellow bedroom which will honor my husband's Swedish heritage and I'll try a blue&white, silver faux finish in the master bedroom. Thanks HGTV for giving me the courage to be my own "design star."

Congratulations Clive on a wonderful show.
I didn't vote in the end because I couldn't decide between Alice or David -- they both deserved to win.
Let me echo others and ask HGTV to either give Alice her own show as well, or have Alice and David work together -- they would make a fabulous team!

Congratulations to David for his new life journey! However, I want to congratulate Alice too. She did a great job, she was a joy to watch.
David, when you designed your room based on purchases from the pet store, I knew you were the one. From then on, I watch to see where your imagination would take you. You have an amazing capacity to see beyond just walls and paint.
Congratulations again!

Congratulations to David. I had a hard time voting because I love David and Alice both. In the end I voted for Alice because I thought she had a better sense for color like the judges suggested to do. I hope he learns to use more color in the future and have Alice as a guest sometime.
Clive you are the best, I watch you on Designed to Sell with interior designer Lisa LaPorta. She is one of my favorites on HGTV along with Designer Candice Olson
Clive you make the shows more fun to watch.

Congratulations to David! We purchased our home from the Bromstad family and have known them for years. We're wondering how David would redo his bedroom. :) Enjoyed watching Design Star and now are excited to see David's own show. God has blessed David in numerous ways as an artist and designer. We wish him God's very best in his future. It was especially fun to see the entire Bromstad family on TV, at the end of the show. WAY TO GO, DAVID

Enjoyed the show immensely. Congratulations David! Although I voted for Alice, had a really tough time after the final show deciding. Your talent was obvious from the start & I have to say you were a sponge, you grew with every show. But what impressed me most was how both your & Alice's integrity shone through more each episode. Knowing how gracious you are, would be a shame for HGTV to let all the talent Alice has go unshared with all of us. You have great chemisty, but quite different styles. Surely there's enough room for two good shows on HGTV. Great work Clive, glad you're not cancelled!

hi david, congratulations you certainly deserved to win!! your glass bedroom was remarkable, very original. you put lots of effort & hard work to present to the hgtv audience. personally you got my vote as well as my spouses. best of luck to your new show, we will be watching! god bless!

Great show-----you have put some class and substance into a reality show---thank you. So nice to see down to earth people with good values and manners----Especially Alice and David. I wanted to vote for both. Please HGTV you are missing the boat if you don't get Alice on your network with a show of her own too! Good luck David will be looking forward to your first show. Clive---you too---a class act.

Clive and HGTV - What a wonderful show! I'm not a big fan of reality TV shows either, and this one was by far the best! I realy liked that the challenges were appropriate and working together was really encouraged (almost necessary), what a refreshing way of handling things! You picked a great team of judges of whom I though were very fair, if critical. I can't wait for the next show.
David - I got chance to meet you at school, and although not a close personal friend, I loved your personality than and was rooting for you all the way! Yeah David! I loved ALL of your designs! I was inspired by the seperations in your red room and the inside outside rock arrangement. I will be watching each of your shows!
Alice - I thought your presentations and overall design were some of the best. I wish you both could have won. The designs you did were very appropriate, pulled together, fun and professional. To sum it up vibrant. I hope they find a way to bring you back to HGTV. I thought by far you and David were the best and I think you would do your best work together. You two had such a great synergy. Even though I knew David, I still wanted you to win as well.
HGTV - I was on vacation for a couple of the episodes - please re-air again! I loved this show! Also - Please bring Alice back - we all loved her.

Clive, you are the best host. Good luck on the second season. I enjoy watching you. Congrats to David. Hope his contract says he has to wear his shirt. His designs are repetitive with that asian feel. Not everyone wants the same thing. I voted for Alice, the more grounded type of design. Well wishes for her future.

It was a very difficult decision to choose a winner. Both Alice and David showed that they are talented, creative, genuine, and gracious. It was heart-warming to see how they both cheered each other on and were sincere in the fact that if they "lost" they would be happy for the other to win. Yes, as many people have already said, they would make a great team. They compliment each other, and hopefully, Alice will get to be David's guest. Each episode was put together well. It probably was not an easy task to take all the film clips and piece them together into an hour-long show, but the film editors did a great job. Thanks for presenting the TV audience with a quality show. Congratulations to David!

Congratulations to David -- his talent is just amazing and I can't wait to see more of him and his designs in the spring.
The tenor of this show from start to finish has been outstanding. What stands out most for me were the positive attitudes, support and genuine respect among the (majority of the) contestants. How refreshing is that?!!
By the way, having the President of HGTV come in at the end of the show and say the things she said was, simply, gracious and classy!
Congratulations to HGTV for this wonderful show!

Clive, the Design Star show was wonderful, but as a parent of preteens, I have to say that the highlight was not necessarily David (whom I ADORE!), but the fact that your format and choice of clips highlighted both David and Alice's personal and professional integrity. How refreshing that they both were happy to side-step the cattiness and move forward in a professional and positive way with each challenge. In a world with so few adults to choose from who are appropriate role models, it is heartening to see that HGTV will be turning exemplary people into stars. Good job, Clive, and congratulations, David!

He was my favorite! I loved all of his designs. I'm glad he won. Alice is very talented also. I liked what she did and she is obviously good at what she does. I bet someone will offer her a spot on a show. She is good on camera and very natural. It would have been great for them to have a show together! I'm sure her career will grow from this.
Also, Clive you're hilarious and I love Vern! He is the reason I decided to watch this show! I loved Vern's designs on Trading Spaces. I wish he had his own show!

It wasn't a total win...there was some politicing going on by HGTV that was obvious by us political scientist trained to spot these things. They may seem small, but any political race knows that the first name on the ballot will normally win... and then the text messaging thing...A for David and B for Alice. Don't you think it should have been A for Alice and D for David? They were both great, but her designs had much more variety and his stuck to a safe form. I feel sorry for Alice...the commercials were him first and so charming and her second and so...not so charming. Forget the designs... if someone who'd never seen the program only watched the commercials...they would have voted for him..and that's what HGTV advertised. I felt very sorry for Alice. I think she has a great career a head of her. True...none of the others held a candle to Alice and David. David's final design was very nice....right out of Bed, Bath, and Beyond. However...they are both great and deserve the best! Congratulations to you both.

What a wonderful show! I tuned in Wed. after my radiation treatment and was glued to the HGTV the rest of the afternoon and had Sunday evening's finale to look forward to. What great personalities these young people have and how glowing were their smiles, not to mention their talents. WOW. Glad David won but thought they all did a superb job. And those little smirks of yours, Clive, just carry the show ... The judges were awesome too. Thank you all for making an otherwise kinda bad week a really wonderful one. I keep getting these little blessings, and your show was one of them. Thanks.

clive, you are wonderful. marvelous, actually. i have enjoyed this show. thank you. david is an artist, truely. however, i would not like to continue to see him on hgtv. he is such an exhibitionist. alice would have made a better host, as she is warm, genuine and focused on the projects and not on parading herself around. she has also had some great designs, of course. i will look forward to any show you are on, however, as you are a treat. congrats on your "not cancelled" encore show. lori.

I loved the show and I spread the word and got my friends hooked too. I am excited there will be round two - my chance to try out! I thought everyone did a great job and the only thing I wanted to change were the double elimination nights - I wanted the show to last longer so we could see more creative and inspirational design, not to mention get to know all the designers more. I would have liked to see more from all of the designers particularly Joseph, Teman and Teran. I did agree that David and Alice deserved to be the Top 2 and had a hard time choosing my favorite between them. Congratulations Clive and HGTV for a great show, to Alice for winning the hearts of millions, and to David for an Exciting Wonderful Future - the stuff Dreams are made of!

Dear Clive,
This has been the best series on television in 2006. As an artist I felt this has been a wonderful way to show the true talent of seven outstanding people.
Artists and designers can be very misunderstood. We can be looked upon as lazy, eccentric, unrealistic and we are constantly told we can have our hobbies but go and get a real job. These professional designers helped show the rest of the world just how talented, hardworking, educated and brilliant artists can be.
For 2007?
I would love to see Alice as one of the judges! She knows what it is like out there!
I was hungry to see more about the designers BEFORE HGTV. Where they work currently, where did they go to school or who did they apprentice with?
One project should have more time given to the designers with us getting only the highlights, but let their talents blossom even more than we saw in 2006
I would love to see one of the projects impact more people in need. Perhaps designing something for Habitat for Humanity?
We have a high rise apartment complex here that used to be the hotel for western movie stars and now is section eight subsidized housing. They could sure use and would appreciate your designers.
Thank you for the excellent show and all my best wishes for 2007!

Congrats David. I loved your designs and personality during the competition and can't wait for your own show on HGTV.
Alice, I love your personality too. It's great to see such great friendships amongst competitors.

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID!!!!! After watching every show, you were the ONLY one to win!!!

Congratulations to David! And to Alice, the others, and especially HGTV! I really hope to be able to follow Teman, Teran, Tym, Joseph, Vanessa, Ramona, Temple, and Donna down the road. Maybe David can let us know how they are doing. I sincerely wish them all the best of luck and hope their careers soar after this exposure. HGTV, you did it, you pulled it off. This could have been a very tacky show and you made it into one in which the viewers actually cared about the contestants and the outcome. I am really looking forward to seeing David's show and next season's Design Star.
Posted by Karen E – September 10, 2006 11:00 PM
For Design Star Season 2 I think it should be more about what type of show they would do in addition to the design. For instance, would it be more about how the design went together, who it is for, helpful how-tos for diy-ers - quirky and fun, artistic and inspiring, or serious high end design. I'd like to see how the balance of a show they dream up would fit in the HGTV lineup, and ABSOLUTELY can't wait to see what is dreamed up for David - hey, maybe Clive - you and Alice can host next season's....
Love HGTV - I threw out my remote and its the only station on my TV :)

The judges did a great job narrowing the contest for us, and these were The Right Two. Alice sparkles on TV and I want to see more of her! David's design talent takes one's breath away. His talent is outstanding, his magic enduring. And Clive, the sound of your voice brings a special excitement to my evenings:)Thank you for coming through, as usual, HGTV!!
Posted by Holly – September 10, 2006 10:54 PM
First of all congrats to David on a job well done. I will definitely be looking forward to watching your new show. I also wanted to say that it was very gratifying to see two exceptionally qualified individuals in the finals of a reality show for a change. To Alice, you've got a tremendous talent and a winsome personality; I am certain you will go far. I hope that the HGTV execs make a note of just how many viewers have suggested that the two finalists work together on a show. You couldn't ask for a more winning combination. I honestly couldn't vote because I did not want to choose between the two of you.
Posted by Chris – September 10, 2006 10:53 PM
Congradulations David! I was hoping that both David and Alice could have won because they both went together so well. Maybe David could have her on his show sometime. I truely loved watching them grow and they were always a good team. Clive you were excellent also. I love watching your commericals. They are so funny. Good Luck to David and Alice. I am sure they both will go far.

What an evening. I have really enjoyed all the shows and this one was the most dramitic of them all. I'm sorry both "stars" couldn't win but am very happy David did. He got my vote. Maybe Alice can appear on Designers Challenge. I'd love to see that. Anyway, I've taken up enough of your time. Good Work, Clive. Looking for to Designed To Sell every night. Hope to see you, David, real soon. Congrats from South East Texas

Yay David!
I grew up with him and am so happy to see that he won. He truly is a quality person from a strong family, and that was obvious throughout the entire season. What you see is what you get with David; I'm so proud of him. It was fun for me to see the Bromstads once again! I loved Alice, too, and those two were the perfect pair for the finale.
Great show, can't wait to see David's...

I was so excited to share watching the last two episodes with my 6 year old daughter. The positive attitudes displayed by both Alice and David were refreshing and displayed great sportsmanship. It was fun to watch and to discuss with her along the way. They are both winners! My daughter wants to grow up to be an artist. She's dead set on it already. How fun to watch a show that could offer her an idea for an artistic profession in her future. You never know. Thanks HGTV...my absolute favorite channel. - Joanne

Loved the show. Clive, you make a great host. Very entertaining.
David, I LOVED your designs. Your work reminds me of Vern's, and he was always my favorite designer on Trading Spaces.
Alice, I LOVED your personality. You would make a great Design Star as well. I had a hard time deciding who to vote for, but David's design skills won me over.
Posted by Sharn – September 10, 2006 10:41 PM
DesignStar was great! I didn't watch at the beginning but I got hooked when channel surfing. I was so glad that all of the episodes were shown agin before today. And all of the designers were winners in my book. So glad for David because his style is my favorite but I just loved Alice too! Both came across in their interview shots as people I would be proud to know. It's a shame that there could only be one winner. Maybe HGTV will come up with something for Alice also. She's just too wonderful to for them to lose.

Congrats to David & I hope Alice will be seen on HGTV also. They are both great. I also really like Clive & still love Design to Sell especially the ones with Clive & Lisa. I can't wait to see the next Design Star show but hope Clive has time for both. Also, can't wait for David's show. He is soooo talented1

From an artist and architect to a vibrant designer, artist, and all around dynamic individual, congratulations David to your outstanding continual effort. The winner was obvious practically from the first show. Good luck on your show, I'll be watching! (I also hope that Alice will be a guest on the show!)

Clive-What an awesome, awesome show!Glad it will be back for season 2. I never ever watch reality shows but got hooked on this one about mid-season when I started watching it. You have a winning personality-love to also see you on Design To Sell as I am a real estate agent and I learn new ways to spruce up my listings every time I watch (I am thrilled that DTS will be on 5 nights now). You may never know how far reaching these shows are to those of us out here that watch.Thank you for the inspiration to beautify the world we live in.
Congratulations to David! What a talent.Everyone worked so hard each show-hats off to them also. Best wishes also to Alice;she is also fantastic and what a great sport!

Hi Clive
You did a superb job hosting and I am glad your show was not cancelled.I am so so happy that David won as I was rooting for him from day one ,when he said that he did not do ok,he did great and I believed him.I love his style confidence, love of life, laughter and classy designs.I also like how gracious he was to Alice.I find the judges were extremely fair, right on the button and oh!! Vern Yip is so cute.

This was a great show. Congratulations to David. I didn't vote because I could not choose between the two. Both David and Alice are class acts. It was rewarding to see such two deserving people in the finals. All the contestants were good people; some a little self-absorbed and that is what side tracked them, but all in all I think they are all people of good character. Would love to see David have Alice as a guest. They have good chemistry together. Maybe HGTV will make note of all the comments regarding this. Seems I am among many viewers who feel the same way.
As always, Clive, you are a great host. Your charm and wit make us feel as if we know you and you put the contestants at ease at a very tense time in their lives. Glad there will be a second season and look forward to seeing you and Lisa on Design to Sell. You two are funny together.

What a wonderful show! I have enjoyed watching the very bright, young (for the most part) designers stretch and grow. I felt like they were my kids. Sometimes I wanted to send them to their "naughty seat" and others I wished I could reach inside the screen and give them a congratulatory or consolatory hug. As a viewer I also learned something during each episode and that was a special perk. Clive, you did a great job as the Show Host. Somehow the term Host in this case doesn't seem comprehensive enough...in Vern's famous words "you rocked it!". Thank you for such delightful entertainment/edification and I look forward to next time!

Congratulations to David!!! I'm sooo happy for you!! I can't wait to see your show.
Alice, I'm hearbroken that two people couldn't win. You seem like an "amazing woman." Maybe down the road, we'll have an opportunity to see you again. I sure hope so. I hate to see you go, but I wish you God's speed in your career.
David and Alice, the two of you demonstrated such class, grace, and professionalism. It was such a pleasure watching the two of you these past weeks.
Clive, congratulations to you, also. I can't wait until the next season. You DO rock!
It was also great to see Vern again. I've missed seeing you since you left Trading Spaces. Clearly you've moved on to bigger things.
HGTV, you have a hit on your hands. Please don't put David's show on at some obscure time like Food TV does with their winners.

What a terrific ending! David deserves the deal as he is very creative and can make a room eclectic and beautiful. However, someone really needs to pick Alice up for a show. Alice hones in on customer's comforts. Pretty is nice, but comfort is essential.

They all showed integrity, talent, and personality plus. I loved them all, loved the show, and cannot wait for another. I will miss the players in this one but do look forward to watching David! Clive? Wonderful sense of humor, wonderful ability to handle the designers, the judges, and the audience! I too like your commercials, and do LOVE Designed to Sell as well! And chance on you becoming a designer yourself? Look at all the knowledge you've accumulated! Thanks, HGTV, for all your wonderful shows. You are almost the only channel on in my house!

My husband is a fan of the "Survivor" reality show, and I am not. He is also big into Sunday night football when it is on - like the night of the big finale! (Being a nightowl, I often watched DesignStar late at night.) But I put my foot down and said that I had to see who won tonight - then a storm knocked out our satellite TV just as you were making the announcement! We are both glad to learn from our computer that David won!! We also feel that you could almost have given it to both Alice and David. Ever wonder if they might work together on the same show? The only problem might be that David is such a strong designer, he might eclipse Alice's ideas. But they did seem to be so compatible and could each contribute something different to a show.
Thanks for all the good "Designed to Sell" shows and now for the "DesignStar" show! I have enjoyed them all and learned from them all.

Hi Clive,
Congratulations on having another season of "Design Star". I really love the show and I am getting a lot of great ideas. I'm also a huge fan of "Designed to Sell"!
I'm also very glad that David won. I think his style has multiple levels of appeal which I believe are so important for design. You have to be able to "relate" to who you are designing for and that came across in all of his designs.
I'm looking forward to the first episode of David's show and to the next season of "Design Star"!
Continued success and congratulations!!

Congratulations David on winning your own show and starting your new career! You have great taste and are a wonderful person. You and Alice are great friends I can see, and that is a wonderful thing to have. It would be great to see Alice as a guest designer on your new show! :)
Alice, and the rest of the Design Stars, may your future be bright as well and your dreams be fulfilled.

I have enjoyed watching this show so much. My husband, who usually gets so bored with these design shows, really got into it. It was interesting and exciting to watch these people do amazing challenges each week. Personally, I cannot design anything in my own home. Watching them gave me some ideas and gave me courage to try a few ideas. Can't wait to see season two! I know it'll be a hit too.

The show was wonderful! I enjoyed every episode. At first I thought it would be a copy of Trump's. It wasn't. It was even better. And I learned from the designs the contestants did along with the judges' remarks. I hope in Design Star three or four you will consider bringing back those who didn't make it the first time around. Alice and Tim were great, and I'd like to see them have another chance and see what they have learned from the experience. I liked Temple's work too. Thank you for a wonderful program all these weeks. Now what am I to do on Sunday nights? Suzy

I am a HGTV huge fan.. If the TV is on in my house, the only channel it's turned to is HGTV... I really loved this show.. and have watched the re-runs over and over through out the process... Thanks for re-showing each episode during the week in your day time viewing....I loved watching them all over again.. already knowing the outcome.
Keep up the great work... and I can't wait for season 2... Clive you ROCK! I voted for David.. so I am thrilled he's the WINNER! THANKS HGTV for a great show.. it's a home run!

It was a great reality show and Clive is a great host. He makes decent commercials too, he is a comedic natural!
I would like to see some guest judges on the next season of Design Star. You choose, I'm sure we'll know the guests you may choose!

Clive,
You did a great job and it was as much watching you....I will say, I voted for David, but truely they both could have won. I really liked his last room over her's but that's not to say I didn't at one time like her's over his..collectivly they were BOTH winners. While Alice may not have won a show I hope that this will boost her "client list" UP!! Where was her husband?

Congratulations David! You were the obvious winner from the beginning. I looked forward each week to your challenge. Your designs have class, you are a natural. You have such a fun and sincere way about you and you do very well on camera. I wish you much success and look forward to the spring to see your show.

Alice is great! How about giving her a contract on some show, say like to be a David side-kick. You won't find a better TV host than Alice.

Clive,
We have always watched Design To Sell, and normally won't watch "reality TV". When we saw that you were hosting, we took a chance on "Design Star". We are hooked, we love it and watched every episode. We are really happy for David, he was our first pick and will look forward to his new show. We are pleased that you will be back in 2007 with another round of "Design Star". We will really looking forward to seeing the next session & new designers.
Thanks again...
Kindest regards...

Thank you, Clive for hosting a wonderful show. I enjoyed watching you on Design to Sell, and on Design Star. I feel disappointed that I have to wait till next year to talk to you again. I feel happy for David, but I feel bad for Alice. I know she got a brand new SUV, but I would have like to see her get something more. Congratulations on getting a second season of Design Star. I wasn't sure if I was going to watch the first season when it first started, but I definitely got hooked. I'm not a reality show watcher. But this show is the best, and since you were hosting I figured I would give it a shot. Glad I did. I met wonderful people on the message boards and got to post to a wonderful blog. Thanks again Clive. Looking forward to new DTS shows with you in them. Love you always, Michelle from IL. P.S Did you give the Chicago team some pointers?

Congratulations to David, but I would have liked to see both win. Maybe HGTV will guest star Alice on his or other shows thoughout the year.

Congratulations to David! I can hardly wait to see your show. Please have Alice as your frequent guest--you were both great and I most admired both of you for your integrity, as well as your talent.

FINALLY...............A SHOW WHERE THE PERSON WHO DESERVED TO WIN-WON! CONGRATULATIONS DAVID! CLIVE, YOU DID A FANTASTIC JOB! I AM SO THRILLED THERE WILL BE ANOTHER DESIGN STAR. COULD THEY POSSIBLY SET UP A SITE ON HGTV WHERE VIEWERS COULD BE EMAILED WHEN DAVID'S SHOW IS ANNOUNCED AND WHEN IT WILL PREVIEW? THANKS AGAIN FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE!

Congratulations David - all the best to the best designer to come along to TV for quite some time. It is difficult for me to imagine a designer out there for season two of Design Star who can measure up to your work.
