Design Star: Making the Cut

Posted by Design Star Blogger – July 22, 2007 10:02 PM

Finally!! I have been on pins and needles waiting for this night! The Casting Special was even better than I expected! First, let me just ask, "who, besides me, thinks Robb and Neeraja are going to fall in love?" Ha! I'm kidding, but wouldn't that be a fun twist to the story!

Okay, Super Fans. Let's get right down to it. So, what do you think? I can't wait to hear. And, I know it's hard to believe...but, I can't wait to tell you what I think either! :o)

I am loving Vern and Martha this year! Maybe I am just used to them now. But, they seem so warm and funny this go-round. And, David was a really fun surprise! I liked that they had him sit in. And, I loved all of the snippets about the people who didn't make the cut. What about Serina from New Jersey? Now, she was an interesting individual. And, that Maximus...awesome. No, truthfully, I was actually impressed with some of the people who didn't make the cut. Leo, the architect from New York, he seemed to have it together and his designs looked really nice. Kyla from New York, I wonder if she just really didn't want to be there? Because she seemed really kind of special. And, how have I let this much time go by without mentioning Lynn Chang? Wow. All I have to say is this...Cat yoga has changed my cat's life!...very much like WinsorPilates changed life for Daisy Fuentes. Maybe more. :o) Anyway...

Well, I kind of expected this, but I have changed my opinion regarding most of the contestants already! This is going to be such a fun roller coaster ride! Okay, here we go...

Scott: This guy is clearly talented. His work is absolutely beautiful! But, he is going to be such a Prima Dona! What makes me think that? Well, he basically said it! He is going to be so hard to get along with. But, I bet he could teach us a thing or two about design, if we let him. And, did anybody else see the gigantic wreath of feathers hanging on his front door? I don't have anything to say about the wreath, I just thought it was cool. :o)

Todd Davis: Todd, your shirt called - it misses you and wishes you would find it and put it on. Oh, wait! What's that? I hear the phone again!... Todd, those guys from that MTV2 show, Wildboyz, called. They were wondering if you could fit it in your busy jumping and falling schedule to come co-host with them. Because, DUDE, you are a natural for that show! My favorite line from Todd so far, (and truthfully, there have already been a few)... "You can claw some spackle right off of the wall, rub it together and I can make something cool out of it!" In your vernacular...RIGHTEOUS.

Josh Foss: Josh, there is just something about you that I really like. You seem so centered or something. What is it? Your "Green" row houses are fabulous. And, I did notice that cute hair. It would be neat for Josh Foss and Kyla from New York to have some sort of Metro Hippie show. I am excited to see what Josh Foss has to offer. He seems great.

Josh Johnson: Josh Johnson, you light up my life. You give me hope to carry on. See...I KNOW that you get that reference. But, what I want to know is why? Why do you have the sense of humor of a 43 year old? Hmmm... I need to get to the bottom of this. You know way too many funny things from MY generation, which is totally before your time, babe. So, I just re-read your Q and A...where you said that if you weren't a designer, you'd want to be a Solid Gold Dancer! Well...guess what! That's EXACTLY what I would have said...because I'm 43. Next, I noticed that your childhood dream was to fly Wonder Woman's invisible jet. ME TOO!!!! Now, come on. I'm right, aren't I? You are 43 if you are a day. It's okay with me. I love you even more if you are 43. Because, your skin looks GOOD! I want to know your secret! Oops...I'm supposed to be writing about his Design Star capability...sorry. I got off track there for a minute. :o) Now about Josh Johnson's ability to be the next Design Star. Hmmm...I don't know. He's going to be something, though. That's for sure. He has STAR written all over him. And, I still want him to redo my "MASTER BEDROOM RETREAT!" I just don't know...I think we're going to just have to see his work.

Robb - What is it? You are REALLY wound tight, my friend! Here's what I want you to do...Get in your "rig" and haul on down to your local bookstore, buy a book on anger management and get whatever the problem is, taken care of. Because, the photos of your work are absolutely stunning! I totally believe that you are gifted when it comes to design. I think if you can beat, (no pun intended), this anger problem, you could be the next Design Star! I can't wait to see what happens with Robb!

Will - I have pretty much done a 180 about Will. Tonight, I am just not feeling it with him. It did crack me up though, that whenever he was on the screen, there was that "Pimp Daddy" music going on in the background! (Actually, all of the contestants had their own sort of "groove" going on in the background while they were being shown! Very cute!) Anyway, now I'm wondering if Will is going to want to deal with all of the "personality differences" that are obviously coming in the next few weeks. He seems like he's the kind of guy who likes to lay back and enjoy the ride...

Adriana - Girl, you made me cry AGAIN! Stop it!!! Good Grief! If you don't quit being so sincere and sweet and genuine and thankful, I'm going to have to send you to the LIFETIME network. a.k.a. "the cry channel" to many of the men in my life! No, I'm kidding. I think you may be the one to beat. Something tells me that you can deliver whatever it is the judges are going to ask of you. And, I'm betting you will do it all with a joyful heart! You've got the goods, baby! I have to move on now. I'm getting a little teary.

Christina - When I was watching Christina, I was thinking, "wouldn't it be awesome if Adriana and Christina tied?" And their show could be called something like..."The Nice and Nicer Show"...or...."The Happy and Thankful Show"...or..."The Seriously Every Man's Dream Women Show." Christina seems like no matter what her design capabilities are, we are going to absolutely love her. And, I wouldn't be surprised if she is around for a long time. What a doll.

Neeraja: I got nothin'.

Kim: I still like Kim. I just don't know what to think yet! I love Kim's enthusiasm. And, her idea for staining the floor in waves...I thought that was very cool. I'd do it. I just need more information about Kim before I can say anything else.

Lisa : As of this moment...you are my choice for the next Design Star! Why? Because I think Vern absolutely loved you. And, I think he knows talent when he sees it. Not to mention, there is something absolutely magnetic about you!! You seem like the whole package - talented, nice, grounded, energetic. Now, this could change next week. But, for now, I'm thinking you are the one, darlin'.

Okay. That's all I have for tonight. I can't wait to hear what you all think!!!! Yea! Design Star is back!!!!

I'm so glad to see Rob get voted out. Really can you see him going to someone's home with his crude personality and create what the client would want. I watch HGTV all the time if he had made the finals I would not watch his show . He talked down to Kim and others during the show. Didn't he know he was on T.V. ???
Good luck to Will and Kim.

If Robb wins this competition, not only will I not watch his show, I might quit watching HGTV all together! What a terrible, abrasive personality! Please kick him to the curb!

robb mariani ,high school friend, big mouth, bigideas, hence 57 chevy 4 door w/mobilehome frame- first set of dingle balls. why he,s the best? 1# big shoulders after finding father in snow bank after he was jogging dead [heart attack] 2# putting together grave digger game or idea for monster trucks!! 3#mamma,s boy living in orlando next to mom. ps I LIVE 2 MILES FROM MINE!! Thanks mjm

I wonder if some of the people are fake. I have seen the Chinese girl with emotional problem in the first episode of BET's S.O.B. So, she is really an actress, not an illustrator.

Did the show generated some fake scenes to spice up the content???

i really enjoy the make over programs they are all great. i reallynlike david bromstad/color splsh. my question is how come you always do houses or apartments. i live in a big mobil home, how come you never doa makeover in one of tem. hank you brenda . i watch you at least 3 hours a day

Dear HGTV,
I have watched your show and find it to be very nonprofessonial to say the least. I have been watching other shows on HGTV for years and enjoy the maturity, professionalism, information that is brought to it. In your various shows, ie house hunters, designers challenge, Before & After and other very mature and informative shows. What happened with this. Please take those childish brats off the air and please give us back shows like Before & After again. I very much enjoyed that, very informative and helpful, since I like to do alot of things myself. I am also finding that I am not the only one who things it is in very poor taste, alot of the people I work with that watch HGTV think so too. HGTV I don't think was ever meant to be a place for shows like Jerry Springer. Most of the people that watch HGTV are intellegent and we DO NOT plan on dummying down to that level of intertainment, we have others like fox network for that. And further more I have never met a designer that was that empty headed, or if they where they did not last long in the design business.
Intellegents and maturity rule,
Barb

Honestly,
HGTV, I am truly bewildered by your selection of designer 'wanna bes.' I've tried to understand how you could have come up with such an array of pathetically poor candidates, and the only thing that comes to mind is this: This must be the best of what applied. Wow, doesnt say much for HGTV does it? As someone who watches HGTV daily, I must tell you I am appalled at this season's design candidates. From day one, I believe everyone's show should be cancelled. Just apologize to your viewers and tell them you'll be back next year when the level and caliber of candidates truly reflects soon-to-be designer stars. Shame on you, HGTV. Your selection decision is insulting to the average viewer. Clearly, there must be some real superstars out there just waiting to strut their stuff on national television. Why not go out there and get those people rather than bore and insult those of us who turned on weeks one and two only to be horribly insulted and disappointed?

Posted by Anne Ryan – August 8, 2007 3:32 PM

what a disappointment this group of 'possible designers' is....there definetly are none equal to David and Alice from last year.

In fact, all from last year were better than any in this current group...but I will continue to watch to see if one can prove me wrong.

Posted by mary e oaks – August 7, 2007 8:53 PM

This season I am having trouble with the judges choices; personally after episode one craftsman Josh and Robb should have gone based on safety and design hell. Josh should never go near tools and Robb has no talent and should seek mental health services for anger management and inability to accept responsibilty. Lisa was offbeat but at least had artistic talent, what creative juices glowed from Josh and Robb's space? Challenge 2 the incomplete kitchen was more functional as a kitchen than the wannabe Tuscany design. If Robb doesn't get axed soon I'll need therapy. So far Josh Sparkle, Will and Scott are the real contenders in my opinion. My choice is Josh Sparkle he has talent, personality and class.

Posted by roe – August 7, 2007 12:57 PM

I'm miss John Foss already not only was he HOT to look at but, I thought he was good designer. He should be able to come back to do a project by himself. I'm sure it
would be awesome. Now, I have no reason to watch the show.

Take Care Josh

Posted by Jerry – August 6, 2007 6:02 PM

Personally I think the choice of designers, or lack of this season is awful. It seems like many of the candidates lack design potential, given that some of them may have bubbly personalities which may be fitting for television. But what happened to the women! None of them really are professional designers!!!! Well maybe Lisa and look at her, she was eliminated. Season one was a great mix of talent, I don’t know what’s happened to the choice this year…. Still, I’ll go on watching the show just cause I am curious about the final result….but I can already predict that the winner will most likely be a guy.

Posted by Fawzia – August 3, 2007 4:23 PM

I'm slightly disappointed in the first showing. Such a beautiful spacious penthouse and that's all they could come up with. Maybe you should consider eliminating more than one person. It needed to be, if you want your viewers to continue watching. Two contestants did not show any style on the first try. The bar area lacking in creativity, then the garage entry was a disaster. Thank you Vern for taking care of that problem, now on with the next.
All eyes are watching.

Posted by Cat Holley – August 2, 2007 12:46 PM

Love the show. I have half of South Jersey watching.
The only problem is too many young people cast.
Be honest. A major group in this country that has money and also enjoys home design and decorating is 45 and up.
I want to be on your next season.

Sincerely,
Duo Cugina

The first Design Star 2007 challenge was a huge and in some ways intimidating one. Designing for large spaces is an art in itself.

All things considered and the pressure this Design Star competition entails I could see why the judges had a hard time eliminating the first person. But not to worry judges, you'll have a few more opportunities to eliminate those who don't measure up.

The most educated or experienced designer is not neccesarily the one who can pull off their own TV show. There is so much more than design happening here.

I think the winner will have the right balance of design skills, charming personality and ability to work with others (that last one is paraphrased out of "All I needed to know about life I learned in kindergarten"). I sure HGTV hopes so too.

As a designer I come up with thoughts on how I would approach the challenge. Love the risks these people take even when or is it? because there is so much at stake.

I'm on for the ride as long as it doesn't get dangerous or unhealthy.

I did not watch Design Star last season, but I have become a big David Bromstad fan. Even my husband will watch Color Splash and he usually moans when I have on HGTV. So far, this group of contastants are not even in the Ballpark with David. I hope they bring their "A" game next week or it's "lights out-game over.

Posted by Barbara – July 30, 2007 5:23 PM

I don't see any talent in any of the contestants. And the whiney one from GA is a turn off.

Posted by Kay – July 30, 2007 3:58 PM

Geez, you guys should listen up better. Cynthia had a fashion show and David filled in for her.

She was back on tonight's show.

Posted by 33maggie – July 30, 2007 1:03 AM

It felt like FOREVER waiting for the new 'Design Star' to begin. Once it did, I was glued to the set and hoped my family forgave me for completely ignoring them. Anyway, I'll keep this short. After watching the auditions, I had to admit I was rather turned off by Lisa's presence. I also thought her approach to design was a little, well, unconventional. In fact, so unconventional that I was afraid someone like her might show up at my house if, or when I ever hired an interior designer. No offense Lisa. You seem like a real sweetheart but, you seem better suited for work at Abercrombie and Fitch or perhaps Goodwill.

Posted by VJ Brasher – July 29, 2007 10:40 PM

My goodness...there are some really mean and rude people on this site. I just can't see why some of you must be so harsh and judgmental about people that you don't know based on a show where you've seen their designs.

For instance, Nicole said, "We actually thought we were watching the Surreal life or something. How could anyone take this show serious if there are no more qualified contestants than what were chosen. How could someone as gaudy as the guy (a.k.a. Mr. Bling) from TN be on a design competition show? Did any of the judges actually SEE his work. It looked like Liberace exploded. And the stay at home mom from "

Get a life folks. You're taking the show and yourself way too seriously.

Posted by Leah – July 29, 2007 5:06 PM

Hey Missmonie! How exciting! What was Will like? What does your house look like? Is it gorgeous? We need details!

Posted by lwatkins – July 28, 2007 2:29 PM

As an interior design student...who has gone through 4 and a half years of schooling...as well as 2 internships at very prominent firms in Boston and when I am finished I will have a Bachelor's of Science in Interior Design.....I am absolutely OUTRAGED about this show.

I am heavily involved in Interior Design legislation...to promote the field into being more legitimate.....through practice and title acts..these are acts preventing those do not have the qualifications to practice as well call them selves interior designers and when I see a HairDRESSER??? Trying to do the same job as I do and being called an interior designer..it makes me very frustrated......

Why is there no tue Interior Designers...who have the qualifications???? This is why when I say I'm an interior designer..people say OMG..come do my house!!!!

I hope that one day HGTV will show true designers and make Interior Design as legitimate as we all know that it can be! This show is feeding on the negative perceptions of Interior Designers :(

Posted by INTERIOR DESIGNER – July 27, 2007 9:37 PM

My hope is that Will Smith from Charotte,NC proves Design Star judges wrong. I feel that he was selected because he was the sterotype black male with the pimp palace. The judges want to be able to say-- we gave a black designer a shot, but he just didn't make the cut. Some of these contestants were chosen to fail. Prove them wrong Will Smith!

Posted by Blessed – July 27, 2007 9:14 PM

I'm looking forward to the the first real episode next Sunday. I had my home designed by Will prior to this show and he's awesome!!

Posted by Missmonie – July 27, 2007 8:33 PM

Again, I think all of us may be a little hasty to start dismissing people this early in the show. Although the gentleman from TN is the most improbable "designer" I could pick out. Looks like he took Granny's jewelry box and threw it over a chandelier. It looked like cobwebs that glittered and I felt Addams Family syndrome coming on! I am unable to watch the films on my computer for some reason - it cuts in and out - so I am depending on the show to help me make up my mind. I would seriously like to see the "chosen" come from people who have really made this their life, not just a weekend effort, and who have some expertise with the machinery. Design is about hands-on work, not just drawing something and watching someone else do all the building, painting, gluing or nailing. That's why I like David, Alice and best of all, Candice Olson. I also love Matt and Shari and Joan and Charles Burbridge - now there's a guy who deserves a show of his own!!!! Taniya Nayak and Lisa LaPorta also have a tremendous talent - they make silk purses out of sow's ears when rescuing some pretty awful houses. So - I will wait and see who holds up to them in some way this year. Yay for David - you and Alice had such wonderful personalities, and you listen to the customers! Hope the new winner will do the same.

Posted by Celtic Diva – July 27, 2007 8:18 PM

I loved the season opener. I'm looking forward to some great decorating ideas from these contestants. I've learned not to judge a book by its cover, so lets see what these guys/gals are made of!!!

Posted by Tina – July 27, 2007 5:31 PM

I too think some of the 2007 contestants seem "unique"; I think "freaks" might be a little harsh. I say, "Let the show begin!" Who knows this group of unique designers might really impress us. You know what Mom says about a book and its cover!

Posted by Mary – July 27, 2007 2:26 PM

I have to agree with those who see this year's contestants as more tacky than talented. It seems that the judges picked people who had colorful personalities or were quirky rather than people who were serious or professional. How they could possibly choose someone who described his style as that of a pimp over a man with 20 years of experience as an architect, I'll never understand. I, for one, am disgusted by the contestants this year.

Posted by Cindy – July 26, 2007 4:51 PM

I loved last years show but when I watched last weeks show, I was almost turned off. It seems Design Star could easily turn into a bad episode of American Idol, with all the freaks! Please keep it professional. The blond hair spray freak is a joke!!!

Posted by Mark – July 26, 2007 10:30 AM

I'm really looking forward to this DESIGN STAR season.....but I concerned that the objective has shifted from searching for talent to searching for whatever makes good reality TV. Please don't let us down!!!!!

PS> HGTV should watch out for the FINE LIVING network.....FINE LIVING features some classy design shows that put HGTV to shame. We want REAL design....not crafty junk!!

Posted by Kim – July 26, 2007 9:19 AM

Your station is just going to pot. Where are the real quality shows that used to be on? If you're over 15 yrs. old, the over-abundance of sappy whatevers are boring, uninformative and certainly not inspirational. I especially like "Room by Room" and now it's on at 6am and most of the time it's reruns -- how rude of you.

Posted by Kathy – July 26, 2007 2:13 AM

Second season of Design Star seems to have a real diverse group of people

My favorite second season "design star" so far is Neeraja. She looks like she has the beauty and talent to take this to the top.

This looks like it will be a really interesting season.

Posted by Haley – July 25, 2007 11:56 PM

Neeraja was by far the best designer so far. I loved her candid and articulate point of view.

She is there to design, and by what we have seen so far Neeraja is the most talented.

We think she could go far!...possibly the final two or hopefully even win.

Posted by Joel and Greg – July 25, 2007 11:51 PM

My wife and I saw the show's final few episodes last season and loved it. And then WOW, we missed this years first show! :( We don't watch HG like we used to). Thanks for your comments LW -maybe you should make live comments as the show is airing. And you're right, shoes make the man (or the woman). Can't wait to see what happens.

Posted by pirateguy – July 25, 2007 10:20 PM

I have always loved watching shows on hgtv. However the Desigh Star show shocked me with the lineup that was picked for this season. How could you pick finalist who dont even own their own design business. Of all the people that were shown for the finalist this week, you really missed it big when you put through the housewife with no experience over the blonde lady named Cindy Elliott. I'am considering not to even watch this show this season. I'am very disappointed.

Posted by Renee – July 25, 2007 10:04 PM

My family used to watch HGTV a lot, but not so much now. You should think about changing your name to home & gay TV.

Posted by david briggs – July 25, 2007 4:39 PM

I cant believe the professionalism of HGTV lowered themselves to do "bad reality TV". I have always admired their humor and how they did things so professional. But this Design Star cut is just a bad rendition of a HOKEY REALITY SHOW. Please HGTV , dont do this to your loyal viewers. We respect you.....until this.

Posted by Kim – July 25, 2007 2:04 PM

Hey, I am a big HGTV fan and was first skeptical of Design Star. Now that David won the first season, I am truly loving it! But please don't take David off the air!! Color Splash is my favorite show because of HIS talent. I don't think anyone else could do what he does. Saying that, I am looking forward to see these new designers. This is a great way of bringing new talent to the spectrum. Just don't get rid of David - so far he is the only designer I would trust in my own home!

Posted by Kara – July 25, 2007 10:13 AM

You know, I call myself a Super Fan, but I have to tell you, you all are great! I just love how the opinions are all over the place! Variety really is the spice of life, isn't it?

Hey Leo, seriously, I hope you are back for Season Three. You are good!

MaryLynn Brownshoe...thanks for getting me!

Posted by lwatkins – July 25, 2007 2:15 AM

Design Star Season 2...what can I say.
Is this a joke or did 3 qualified judges actually pick that group of freaks. Our neighborhood had a block party for all of us "design star" lovers.
We are a very diverse group of male/female/professional/non-professional/race/etc. We actually thought we were watching the Surreal life or something. How could anyone take this show serious if there are no more qualified contestants than what were chosen. How could someone as gaudy as the guy (a.k.a. Mr. Bling) from TN be on a design competition show? Did any of the judges actually SEE his work. It looked like Liberace exploded. And the stay at home mom from GA. She has never even worked as a designer, and she took such a coveted spot...
are the judges serious, or just looking to make good TV. To our group, good TV is actually having good design. The girl from NC, the blonde, Cindy Elliott, where is she? She was fabulous, did any of the judges actually look at her board???
We had to DVR and go back and review it, it was
unbelievable. And the "green" designer....his work was terrible. But, he was "green"...
None of us plan to watch this show. It was an insult to good design and great design was compromised for the sake of reality TV. What a shame....

"Rugs made out of strips of jeans, etc., who really wants that?"

I DO! And no I am not some 20-something either. I like less than pristine rooms with things that people have made with their hands. I like someone who shows me how to see past the ordinary, to view furniture, furnishings, spaces differently than I have been--- which often makes all the difference in the world.
I see potential in this group but I agree there seem to be a lot of people who are clueless when it comes to the 'hands-on' part.

Posted by mar12 – July 24, 2007 3:49 PM

Already picked my winner! Lisa is hands-down my favorite. I'm old enough to be her mother, (she reminds me of my best friends' daughter) but I love her style!!! Can't wait to see the designs she comes up with. Go Lisa!!!!!

Posted by Deb – July 24, 2007 3:47 PM

Christina Ray is great.

Posted by Butterfly – July 24, 2007 2:21 PM

It seems like they have chosen a diverse group. A politically correct group. A red yellow black and green group..But not a group of talent with style and sophistication like David or anyone who stands out as a potential Design Star. Does Todd really have the goods? Kim Myles is a hopefull. Neeraja scares me. Can Rob the He-Man transplant make the cut? And Cindy Elliott, where is she? I want to see more of her! And her design style of course.
Maybe next time the TV audience can choose the next top ten or eleven !

Posted by Robert – July 24, 2007 12:25 PM

now the whole world will see why we call him "sick" Robb. There is surly a compulion disorder going on when he designs a space like THE MIND SHACK of central fla. Keep up the good work Robb we are pulling for you.

I stayed up especially and was anxious for the 2nd season of Design Star to begin, but I have to ask...Why did you up the annie? I mean last years Design Star was great, It was WELL...normal, a TRUE realty show and the cast was wonderful..This year it seems as if HGTV is trying to make it more of a freak show than a realty show with talented competitors.
In my opinion I say KISS (Translation=Keep It Simple Sweetheart) Next season if there is one because I think you will lose alot of viewers on this one, go back to the real thing!
On a positive note: David Bromstad is a wonderful designer and does fantastic designs you must keep him on the air!!!

Posted by Angelika Yannuzzi – July 24, 2007 3:06 AM

That was a fun episode!! Vegas as a PERFECT location.
Adrianna N. seems AMAZING!! i LOVED the clip of her work that they showed on the online video, so i looked her up and found her website and she's got REALLY cool stuff! I hope she gets to showcase all that talent on the show. Very clever. I'm rooting for her. She just seems really genuine and passionate. I think her website is www.designbyadri.com or somethin like that.
The before and afters are super cool.
Scott is super cute too. He seems very legit and talented. His website is amazing.
Anyway! Im excited about the season!!!!! yeay!

Hi I was so looking forward to watching Design Star 2, but when I looked for it it was a rerun. Looked both the 22 and 23rd. Can anyone tell me why I couldn't get it? Is it available in Canada?

Posted by vivian – July 24, 2007 1:04 AM

Neeraja was the most brilliant and interesting person on the show. I loved her direct humor and her style. I am sure she will go far. She is my choice for Design Star.

Posted by Demetre Savala – July 23, 2007 10:26 PM

Couldn't wait for the new Design Star competition to start this year. Not thrilled with David being a judge as I don't feel that he has the experience to judge others. His show is lackluster and except for the first one, I've not watched again. The contestants remaining will be interesting to watch weekly to see if the cream truly rises to the top.

Posted by Rita – July 23, 2007 8:53 PM

I stayed up late just to see if who I picked was realy in the running. It will be interesting to see all those personalities in one room. Hope they don't crash under pressure. I realy didn't understand a few of the picks but that is what makes a show tick. I can't wait until next week to see them realy design something. That is where the real talent comes out.Hope david gets another show though.

I love David Bromstad, his team and his incredible designs!!!! I am so glad that his show "Color Splash" has been picked up for another season. David makes HGTV perfect.

I didn't really watch all of the last season (with David) but what I did see I enjoyed, so I am looking forward to this season. I watched last night and I think it is going to be interesting. I would like to know how you contac these contestants (if they want to be contacted). I live in a small town and I am always curious as to how you get "good designers" to do work for you (if you don't live in a big city like LA or San Francisco or New York City). It was exciting to see someone from Charlotte, NC (now that's closer to home for me). If anyone can help please let me know...

IN WATCHING "MAKING THE CUT". I'M QUITE DISAPPOINTED. I SEE AND HERE PEOPLE WITH NO OBVIOUS REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE RAMBLING ON ABOUT NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING A "DESIGNER" AND THINKING THEY SHOULD BE CHOSEN. AS A MASTER CARPENTER WITH 35 YEARS EXPERIENCE WHO HAS DESIGNED BARS, RESTARAUNTS, SPIRAL STAIRS FROM A SCRIBBLE ON A WALL, HAND BUILT CUSTOM CABINETS, MADE MOULDINGS FOR MILLION DOLLAR HOMES FROM RAW LUMBER, GONE FROM TREE TO CUSTOM STAIRS THAT EVEN I STAND BACK FROM AND GO WOW. THEN YOU HAVE THESE PEOPLE USING POWER TOOLS IN SUCH DANGEROUS WAYS, THAT THE PUBLIC SEES, MIMICS, LOSES FINGERS,EYES, ETC. I'VE FORGOTTEN MORE THAN ANY OF THE PEOPLE I LISTENED TO AND COULD STILL OUT DO ANY OF THEM. YOU NEED A SAFETY COORDINATOR, DESPERATELY. AT LEAST MAKE THIS SAFE IF NOT SERIOUS, PEOPLE ARE WATCHING, TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

I hope David & ColorSplash continue. To me he is the Design Star. I liked that the first season had real people for final contestants - not just zanies. It looks like this season they are looking to jazz things up. Hope it doesn't lose the real spirit of the contest or I'm out.

Your premiere showed many contestants with great talent and skill in design, but others were a joke. HGTV has too many shows that design with nothing more than junk. Rugs made out of strips of jeans, etc., who really wants that? All the people I know want to see real talent and skill used to create beautiful homes with consideration of costs, but not sparing quality and style. Where are more shows like that for us real people who want to make our homes more attractive? Take Ms. Elliott's design - now that's something I'd have in my home. Sophisticated style that could be put together on a minimal or high budget. With designers like Candice Olsen, I may not be able to afford her designs, but I never watch her show without learning something and seeing a beautiful room in the end.

Loved the first show. My picks are Christina Ray (Ga.) and Josh Johnson(Tn.)
Last year my favorites were Alice and David.
Love that Alice is now with HGTV online.
Can't wait for the next show.
Clive is great, as he is on Design to Sell, Love his show. Also, I was glad to see Vern back.

I was disappointed in the show last night. I thought we would get right into their first design challenge right away. I also do not care for Neeraja. If you have to mow people down to get somewhere shame on you. I believe in be honest with people and doing your best job and then you will advance. So far the only two that I really are Adriana and Christine.

I hope I am not disappointed in the show this year. I also think you should have gotten new judges. I would like to see how people like Joan Steffen, Candice Olsen, and some of the designers from Decorating Cents would judge these Design Stars.

First impressions, confident attitudes, and energetic spirts can go a long way. I got that feeling from a couple of contestants. The judges even commented on Will's energy, they see some thing in him. I will be watching weekly. Kim had some cute shoes and the dress was working.

I think what they meant about David no longer being the 'Design Star' was that he wouldn't be called that anymore, kind've like whoever wins Miss America, they only have the 'title' for a year, then the next winner carries it, and so on.
He will still have his own show and do other things, just without that particular title.

I loved the new format- Vern and Martha are great, and having David there was brilliant! If ANYone would know about what it takes to win in a contestant, he surely does!

Clive is total class all the way, and how sweet and gentlemanly was it for him to comfort that one girl??? I can't wait to see what happens next week- I'm a Design Star Junkie!

I'm with you on the shoe thing! Some people say the first thing they notice about another person are the teeth, others, the hair, others, the eyes. For me, I notice people's shoes. Do they match the outfit? Are they worn beyond repair? I'm sorry but that is what I notice. It seems to me that if a person can't design himself, he can't design much of anything.

I was wondering the same thing. I can't believe they would cut such a great talent as David.

I loved Lisa also. Just to look at her I thought oh boy here's a nut. But she has real talent and personality.

My least favorite is Will I'm afraid. Just don't think he will be able to hang for long.

This is more a question. How come this is Season Two? What happened to the...well, Season 1 1/2, I guess? I know the second batch was not competing for a show of their own, but it WAS called Design Star. I would think this was Season Three. nanners2

Thanks for your kind words and look for me again on Season 3 - you know I have to give it another shot !!!!

I hope I heard wrong. I did not know they only had a show for one year? Is David really not going to continue to have a show on HGTV after the new winner is announced. I certainly hope not. He is fabulous and he deserves to stay on television, unless he has a better offer!!
