Josh Has Heard Your Cries, Superfans!

Posted by Design Star Blogger – August 23, 2007 9:00 PM

Hi Superfans! I hope you are sitting down because you are not even going to believe this!
Josh Johnson just wrote in to our blog! Yes. You read this right. Can you believe it? I guess he had "heard through the grapevine" that there were lots and lots (and lots and lots...) of Superfans blogging about Episode 4 and about Josh's departure. (and he heard right! there are SO MANY blogs this week that I cannot possibly keep up! AND...most of the blogs are about Josh and how SO MANY fans wish he were still on the show!) :o) Josh wrote a very nice note and asked me to call him!
And I, of course, got panicky because...well, hello! It was Josh Johnson!

So...I called him.

Did he want me to call him because the "feeling is mutual" and, he loves me too?
No. That wasn't it. OR...Did he want me to call him because he picked up on the
OH, SO SUBTLE hints I have been dropping about the fact that I would love a new Master Bedroom Retreat? No. That wasn't it. Hmmm...what could it be?

Guess what you Super Fabulous Fans! He is as darling on the phone as he is on the show! What? Oh, you just want me to get to the point and tell you what Josh said? Well...I can't. But, he can!

So, without further adieu! Here's Josh......

Hello Everyone --

Where in the universe could I begin, other than to say to you, my remarkable fans and supporters, that I am so truly humbled and honored by the unexpected acclaim and accolades you have extended to me throughout my journey on this season's Design Star. During the course of the broadcasts, I have read and reviewed all of your commentary and sentiments about me on HGTV's online blogs and message boards, as well as in other web locales that have showcased Design Star news and cast members. I am completely overwhelmed by the intense level of devotion and vivid display of kindness you all have shown to me in your thoughts and communications.

I have gathered that much of the reaction of my fan base has been that of dismay and disappointment about my exit from the show last week, and how the whole affair was implemented and judged. I must say, first off, that the entire experience of being selected for, and participating in the show has been tremendously rewarding and hugely beneficial to me overall. The national platform that Design Star established for me has offered the realization of many lifelong dreams and aspirations. Being solely a contestant, I can only relay to you that I gave it more than my best in every challenge that was presented to us, and unfortunately, the outcome was that I was chosen to exit on the fifth episode. I, like you, am somewhat confused and unsure of the exact reasoning the judges utilized in my elimination, but have chosen to continue to optimistically exist and peacefully thrive nonetheless.

I want to extend my most sincere apologies and condolences to the so many of you who have expressed your great disappointment and discouragement regarding last Sunday's decision, but I urge you not to give up on the show. Please continue supporting the four remaining finalists, as I so truly believe in not only their skilled proficiency and talent, but also their superlative and amiable qualities as individuals. I can honestly say that this entire cast of designers are ten of the finest and most beautifully spirited people I have ever had the occasion to meet and get to know. Furthermore, I view my status thus far as a privileged one, being that I have had such a great opportunity to make a noticeable contribution to so many of the HGTV viewers on a grand scale. Additionally, I can only express my most sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to the HGTV network for really believing in, and selecting me from thousands of qualified and gifted applicants, as one of the eleven Design Star finalists.

In closing, I can only wish that you all will continue to shine, glow, and "sparkle" through any situation that comes across your path. So I ask you to please remember me for the laughter and not the tears. I really hope that the "sparkle" that many have seen in me is more than just a glistening room, crazy colossal blonde hair, or ostentatious design scheme- I hope that my audience has realized that it comes from a true, real, God-given place that I hold safely inside myself, and my greatest desire is to let others see that light in a positive, graceful, and Godly presentation. My ultimate desire is that I was somehow able to affect each one of you in this way, even if in some small fashion.

Thank you again for your unfaltering love, matchless encouragement, and priceless support.

Remember: Fame and Fortune are most times fleeting; Grace and Glamour last a lifetime....
and
PLATINUM is the NEW BLACK!!

God Bless--

Josh Johnson

P.S. In my current delighted state, I almost forgot to mention that I will be blogging Sunday night, after the show, right along with you! I hope you will join me for some "blogging" fun! And don't forget, I, along with the ten other finalists will be returning soon! Be sure and watch the finale on September 16th! I'll be there and I hope you will be too!

The only reason I watched Sunday's DS2 final show and missed watching the Emmy's was to see SPARKLE JOSH! You were GREAT!and so was Will.We are ALL hoping HGTV notices what ALL the fans want and that is a show for JOSH JOHNSON!

Hi Josh!

It was such a delight to see you again last night on the DS Reunion Show - main reason I watched it. I'm sure you know by now how many, many devoted fans you have, and I feel sure HGTV has taken note. Hope you're reading the DS Message Board, also. There was a poll taken to vote for contestant, judge, host as who you would most like to have for a friend. You and Clive won hands down!

Each fan of yours has their own idea for a show for you, and I keep coming back to a concept that would certainly be unique on HGTV these days. Since START AT HOME seems to be their new tagline, why not have an 'At Home' lifestyle type show - there were several really good ones in the early years of HGTV. None now, though. A show devoted to fun, classy, elegant how-to entertain 'At Home' using both low and high-end budgets. After looking at your website many times, I just think that's a design show waiting for you! Everything from everyday how-tos from simply knowing how to arrange accessories, how to set pretty table, how to decorate for holidays, how to actually make a flower arrangement, how to host a dinner party, a wedding or baby shower, how to plan a simple or elaborate wedding, etc, etc, etc.

Josh, what an impact you've made on so many during your stay on Design Star, and I sincerely believe we'll be seeing you in the near future with exciting news of your own show, whether it's on HGTV or some other network savvy enough to grab you right now.

Sparkle on!

Sparkle:

Seeing you last night on the finale just confirmed for me that you are more than just a "Star" -- you're a whole twinkling, sparkling skyful of stars! This message shows that you have humility and a good heart as well. You have my vote for everything good in your future. Hope that HGTV hears your fans loud and clear and give you time to SHINE! I think you and Will should have your own show, whaddya say? Bring back "Faith Hill and Queen Latifa"!

Your very own sparkler,
L.

Sparkle Josh is amazing and I would love to see more of his work. I just might learn to work my DVR to ensure I didn't miss it.

how about a show called * Glam It!!* ....
starring our Sparkle Josh ???!!!

Hi Josh:

I am glad that you chose to communicate with your fans. I want to tell you about that room (the light pink, grey, with the glass on the walls. That room was absolutely the most gorgeous, artistic, ""livable"" room! Can you imagine curling up on that cozy sofa with the candles lit dancing off of all the glass? I'm telling you, it is a dream room. The color scheme is magnificent. I think you are just so talented. The next room I decorate is going to be a lot like that room, and I am going to name it "Josh's room." Are you going to have your own decorating website? Are we going to be able to find you? As you are finding out, there a a lot of people out here that want more from you. I hope you can capitalize on this. Don't disappear.

Sparkle Josh, You are one of the most gracious and talented people on HGTV, I was so sorry when you were voted off by the judges. If it had been up to America from the beginning, you would be the winner. I hope that you are offered an opportunity to be on HGTV or another network. I would watch your show all the time. I have thoroughly enjoyed this season Of Design Star because you were a part of the show. The best to you. Kathy

Josh, wonderful to know you do, get to hear how you have touched so many already! You radiate the very essence of style and show that it is a part of you and that it, is that "sparkle" you would bring to a design show! I have already blogged what so many have, that we want you and Will to have a show or at least be a guest host at times.
God bless and we will be watching to see if HGTV listens to what the people are saying loud and clear! We want you and Will back!

Posted by Gigisdiamonds – September 15, 2007 5:39 AM

Sparkle Josh, YOU ROCK! My teenage daughter and I loved everything you did, love your style, your fabulous skill at SHOPPING (who says that isn't design talent?!!) and your delightful sense of humor, and even your gorgeous hair! Your kindness and humbleness in your note to the fans is icing on the cake. Looking forward to HGTV giving you a show either on your own or with Will!

Josh - you've got major sparkle & skills. never stop doing what you're doing...letting that light shine on all!

Sparkle Josh should be given a show teaching us how to shop for our own homes. I love his personlity and energy.

Josh, dear, you are well loved. I am old enough to be your grandmother and I would like to adopt you. I have no grandchildren. You would be a dream to have around. God bless.

Posted by Lisa – September 11, 2007 7:40 PM

Sparkle with Josh- HGTV PLEASE! Give Josh a chance. I want to see him too. Everything he did was so great and he gets elimated because he wanted to give the wedding couple a sparkling wedding reception to remember instead of the horrible rockabilly design they had in mind. I wouldn't miss an episode of Sparkle with Josh!
Josh- You are great ! It is obvious that I am not the only viewer that wants to see more of your work!

Sparkle Josh,
Love everything about you. You should have been the winner hands down. If you ever decide to do this in GA give me a call. I'm a realtor and would love to have you stage some of mine and others homes. God bless and keep up the "SPARKLE"!!

Posted by Ronda – September 10, 2007 2:54 PM

I absolutely still LOVE "Sparkle Josh"!! I miss you so much Josh. Love what Kim and Todd are doing - but really would have absolutely missed seeing what you can do. I adored what you did with the .99 cent store items. I thought it was great. If nothing else, you and Will complimented each other's personalities so well - put both you and Will on a show together. You just both balanced each other and worked so well together I could see the passion you both had. Josh - you are just a natural for tv and you show so much passion in what you do and you show the love for the people - which Will did alsoo and of course Kim does too - but with you, I just connected somehow. I thought from the beginning that I would have loved to see you and Will doing more projects together and also - hey, I'm trying to put my dining room together using PINK - light light pink and would love your input!!! Pink, silver, some dark dark browns with a touch of red asian. I hate orange - but that's just me - and I've been working on this for ages, any ideas on what color I should do my hardwood 1901 original floor - light, medium or I like dark myself and also that I can't think of the brand name V something - I love their Caberet red stain - which I'm doing my kitchen cabinets in - they are old cabinets but I've been working for months to sand them down to the old pine 1901 cabinets and they are going Caberet red and so rich looking - but got the rest of the kitchen and dining room to do - but your ideas on the show, definitely showed me some different fanciful ways to put the rooms together! Thank you Sparkle Josh - I want to see more of you!!!

I have to post now that I've read Josh's post to us all. What a jewel you are Josh! You have a terrific personality, great talent and you are cute as a button! I'm very sure that no matter where you 'work' you will do amazing things and we'll be seeing you again. Keep that fantastic attitude and continue to 'sparkle'!!!!

Posted by Deb in GA – September 10, 2007 12:01 PM

I would love to see Josh on TV. HGTV, Please contract him if you haven't already done so, and give him a show (or part of a show) that showcases his sense of humor and class.

Posted by Tammy – September 10, 2007 12:01 PM

I don't know why Josh didn't make it over Kim. If you ask me I hated those paper plate leaves on that pink background in kims room. Josh was fun to watch and very creative. He was an excellent shopper and I loved watching him create. Kim in the design challenge in virginia said,"I really have to decide wether this is still fun." She put a light colored carpet in that room and fabric furniture! How long will that last before it gets tracked with mud and coal dust. She should have considered tile or wood flooring and rugs and vinyl or leather furniture that can easily be cleaned. didn't she pay attention to what had happened to the previous furniture? Kim is run of the mill ... Everything she designs has been done before...and so boring. I hated seeing her pout that Rob was not treating her as an equal when she hadn't won any previous challenges. That naturally she blamed on everyone she worked with. I don't think Rob should have been so chauvanistic but... Kim was in that power struggle too and it made them both look bad.
Both should have been kicked off. Kim seemed to have to struggle with everything and designing seemed to be hard work for her.. a chore.
Todd is a real Artist and a real creator and it just comes naturally.

Posted by averagecitz – September 10, 2007 8:21 AM

I loved Josh and hated to see him go. I too think he should do something somewhere on HGTV

Posted by Nicolette – September 10, 2007 12:11 AM

Hi Josh,
I just voted for Kim after watching the last show, However I was thinking of you and wishing that you where still in the race becasue the vote would have been hands down.
Shirley

OK, I too have got to say, Somebody has got to put Sparkle Josh on TV. He has definitely got that "TV personality" to the max. I hope HGTV snatches him up for something (at least a Host on a show) because if they don't, I believe some other network will.

Posted by JA – September 8, 2007 7:38 PM

I forgot one thing....so I decided it was worth coming back for.
If HGTV doesn't recognize the "fanbase" you have, Josh....I know one person who most definitely likes people with charisma, personality and yes, a little sparkle.
I think you would be GREAT on Jay Leno....What do you think about that ??

Posted by Lisa – September 8, 2007 3:44 PM

Hi Josh...

I was so sad when you left too. I have to say I think you are the best "shopper" HGTV has ever had. I just entered my "first" blog a few minutes ago suggesting that whoever wins DESIGN STAR bring back ALL of the designers who had their "show cancelled" as "guest designers".....I think that would really keep the new DESIGN STAR's show very interesting.

I just knew that when you walked out of the limo on one of the episodes and announced that Barbie just loved this dream house or something of the sort....that you were going to really bring a lot of fun to the show.

You really did...I just hope HGTV recognizes this and brings you back in some form or another. You would definitely be an asset to HGTV and I think you would bring a TON of viewers with you. Just look at this blog...that says a lot right there.

We love you Josh ( Barbie.. ;) )

PS..I'd love to bring you to my house...as I have a huge "pack rat" problem with lots of very nice things. I am so overwhelmed with what I've created..a mess. I think I could win along with you for our great "shopping for deals" and getting wonderful quality items at rock bottom sale and clearance prices. : ) I was right there with you, as I'm sure so many more were too, Josh...while you were shopping. So so proud of what you bought and the great deals you got. : ) I LOVED the huge mirror.

You and Will would make a team like you have never never seen.!!!You are both great by yourselves But you two just seem to complement each other so much You were amazing on all the shows. and so kind hearted, I think that's whats makes you two so great together. well, Mr Sparkle Josh! it looks like you are a star in your own right, whether you ever get your own show or not. It must make you feel pretty good that you have made so many friends in such a short time that we were exposed to your sweet self. I love your personality and think you have plenty to offer and lots of pizazz!!! Good luck in your future and I hope someone important discovered you and will offer you a fantastic opportunity to let your talent shine as bright as you do. God bless you, Hugs, Dee Lacy

Josh - I just want to say how much I enjoyed watching you on the show. You have talent and style and I want to wish you well. You also don't seem to have a huge ego, as some of the other contestants have. Enjoyed also visiting your website and listening to your song. You seem to be one of those people who do everything they attempt very well. Enjoy all the love that is washing over you on this blog. I don't think we have heard the last of you!

Posted by Rebecca – September 5, 2007 11:17 PM

Josh, like many others I immediately responded to your truly delightful personality on Design Star. From the first episode I just felt like "Oh, gosh, how I would love to have this guy as a friend!!" Your desire that "others see (your) light in a positive, graceful and Godly presentation" was absolutely, absolutely accomplished. You brought God's "sparkle" to the viewers through yourself and your talents. Hold tight to your dreams and that "safe place inside yourself" and all will be well.
Peace and blessings, Josh.

Josh,
I truly was upset when you left the show.
You being from TN. and of course your design skills I was really hoping for you. I am orginally from TN. (WESTERN) and so I really wanted more for you. I do miss you and belive that Rob should have been gone after the first episode.
I look forward to seeing and hearing more about you and your designs, as I know you will go farther than you have already been.
Good Luck,
Zina

Josh, you are certainly well spoken, and you are a great designer. I loved watching you on the show, and was SO disappointed when they voted you off. How could they??? You were fabulous. Your comments are priceless, and show how much class you have. Keep on doing what you do, you are an exceptional person and designer!!!

Posted by Diane – September 4, 2007 11:41 AM

Josh, you are such a class act. "Someone" would be smart to give you and Will a show. You two compliment each other so well.

Posted by arlamae – September 4, 2007 12:42 AM

HGTV,
Why in the world would you eliminate Will? It's the same with Josh. You picked the wrong person to let go. Kim is great but not with design. Robb should have been kicked off after the first show, not the girl you did let go. Who knows what she could have done?
Did anyone else notice the thing going on between the woman judge with the long blonde hair and Todd? Especially after he won the photo shoot with her magazine. He's great with a drill and is nice to look at but to me that's it. Remember, he did Wayne Newtons' living room with Will. Josh did the upstairs bedroom with Will. Will's showcase room, the first to be judged was exquisite. His comments were always right on the mark. I did notice the background when he got his phone call that he was a contestant, fantastic. I think that his review about Wayne Newtons living room was the best out of all of them. He seemed relaxed and gave us all of the info we should have had. He used his time well and was extremely profesional. Todds' was stupid and ignorant, and sure enough that blonde judge said she'd listen to Todd's show all the time. The smiles between them made me sick. I think Will and Kim should be the last two. Or at least Will and Todd. I believe they used Will as their token minority and then were stuck because he was so good. He got a raw deal. After he did Bridgett's room he was laughing and jumping up and down, etc. What else could the judges have wanted? A man and a woman maybe? I think so, and Todd had his "in" with the judge, allegedly. The whole show this year seemed set up from the beginning. But none of it worked out the way they thought it would. The next star was supposed to be Josh Sparkle but he didn't turn out good enough for them. They got their token minority and he turned out to be the best. Also Todd changed his narly ways man, about mid 3rd and 4th shows, when the eye contact began. Everyone else were there just so they could have some drama and people to elimenate. Robb was either picked or brought in to be obnoxious to get viewer drama going, you know, talking around the water cooler the next day. Well there's drama alright, we all want Josh J. to come back or at least get his own show. Maybe a twosome show. I think Josh J. and Will would be great together, just like the first episode. They both know how to shop, and design. And remember, Will would always be there to keep it cohesive and in good taste.

Sincerely,
Susan

Dear Josh

I have to say that I loved your work. I was heart breaking when they pick Rob over you. You brought light to the show. Please keep up the good work.

From NY

Posted by Tee – September 3, 2007 3:37 PM

Josh, Hi again! Is this not just phenomenal to see that all your fans are still posting here on your own blog within the Design Star Blog? When has this ever happened that an eliminated contestant has generated such massive support?

I don't know how many times I've visited your website and looked at your design portfolio, designer credentials, credits, and rave reviews for your past work. The fact that you were eliminated at all, much less that particular wedding challenge, is just ludicrous. Your webpage demonstrates your true genius in producing and executing any size special event. That wedding challenge, should the clueless couple have chosen you, would have been one of the most memorable works done on Design Star, IMHO.

I don't think you would be upset if I compared your work to the NY based firm of Ed Libby and Company. I just rewatched the Style Network showcasing Ed and Company create a huge party and special event for Kimora Lee Simmons. Classy, glitzy, over-the-top elegance and wow factor elements. Again, that's where I see you and YOUR type show heading, Josh.

Listen up, HGTV! You now know you blew it eliminating Sparkle Josh. The Style Network and your sister, the Food Network (for sure) are just killing you - they are showcasing a wide variety of hosts that showcase their talent so's there's something for everyone. Josh could have added so much toward that direction.

Love you, Josh. Please come back on here and blog with us - we miss you so much!

Posted by Joy in TN – September 3, 2007 11:52 AM

Josh,

It became a sparklely world since I first got to know you on the show. You will always be my design star. I think they made a major error in not seeing your magic. I loved shopping with you, loved every second you were on the air. You have a sincere calm about you that radiates trust.

It's to bad it's HGTV's loss that they didn't see what was before their eyes. I personal loved the room you designed that they didn't like as it was ingenous. The colors were so softly hinting they were there. They missed it. Then they used it the following week to remove you from the show which only showed they poorly gave the group a fair test for that week. So they took away the sparkle the light I spotted that first week and really felt this was the next winner.

You are a winner in my eyes and I hope you are become more than a designer. I'll always be remembering you and hoping you have a very successful life.

I'll be watching for you on the last show. God Bless.

Posted by halo_2u – September 3, 2007 12:31 AM

So sorry 2 see you go, Sparkle! I just don't understand the judges this season. One challenge, they tell ya, "More sparkle, Josh!" Next challenge, ya give 'em sparkle, and they eliminate ya. Geez!

Posted by Anna – September 2, 2007 10:48 PM

As many others, I am glad that Rob is gone. Even from the first episode, putting a car door on the wall....... and that is ART???? I think not!

I'm no real designer but know what I like. The way Rob belittled Kim's ideas was appalling.... and I am very glad the judges saw that.

Who do I want to win? Hmmm..... although 'the surfer dude' did have some good designs? How 'bout a Will & Kim show?! They obviously have a great correlation together.

Posted by Mary – September 2, 2007 8:18 PM

11 Designers may have started out....but right up front I thought only one had any real star power....I honestly would have watched a Sparkle Josh show....but I'm not interested at all in watching a show hosted by any of the others....not one bit.

Posted by Marsha/nashville – September 2, 2007 11:05 AM

I didn't have an account here before, but I got one after the living room design, and Wayne Newton house disaster! I was very angry at the designers (whose decisions I usually applaud), regarding a) Their assessment of Josh's "glitzy" living room and b) the decision to "cancel" him! Of ALL the designs...and some were rather good...I felt that Josh's was the best by FAR. He brought a daring, glitzy flair to the otherwise drab space, without resorting to extreme color contrasts (that red & black cross...ugh!)or showmanship (the fun, but OH-so-5-minutes-+-it's over surfer design, for example!).

I LIKED the coin-like designs on the wall decorations! The monotone, yet SPARKLY color palette was perfect!

As for the wedding, I felt that it was the NEWLYWEDS who had little or no taste, NOT Josh! They should have given him free rein and the wedding would have had MUCH more class than Robb's mis-matched, gaudy disaster! I'd have been embarrassed to have a disco dance there, let alone a wedding!

And since everyone else isn't holding back, I was SO glad to see Robb go! I just don't see what TOOK them so long! SO he's a "good manager"! He had no taste and a personality, as someone on the show said, like "battery acid"! More like a crashing tractor-trailer!

I hope Josh gets another chance--he is talented, sweet, and "plays well with others"...a crucial thing!

Josh you are a gentleman and a star I love your work. I don't understand why you are not on the show?? As for the other stars I'm very happy to see Robb not on the show, he needs serious help.I love Kim and Will. Todd OMG is great to look at. I just don't think its very practical to have a floating living room. Todd should be desiging for teens(my 14 year old loved all his work) nice work just not for adults. Day one I could tell Todd was on the wrong show. A pike in the house, I just don't think that's for real. Kim and Will I love your work its tooo bad the show did not have more real design work like last year so more viewers could see your work. Good luck I hope one of you becomes the Design Star. What is HGTV thinking?? This years show and many of the contestants are just so off. I feel like I'm watching the Twilight Zone. Robb I think you need THERAPY. Oh well back to HGTV yes I do watch it all day and night.....

I was so glad to see Rob go. His comments after the show only confirmed how self-centered and egotistical he is. A designer has to be able to work with his clients and subcontractors. As aTV star, he also has to be able to work with his crew, and I would fear he would always be complaining about something or blaming others for his mistakes. This show is not just about doing good design, it is about being able to engage the audience, as well as working with the TV staff and clients. Personally, I felt the same way about him that Will did - I wouldn't let him in my house.

Posted by Bob Alierick – September 1, 2007 11:14 PM

Robb was a bit pushy and hard-headed, but he got the job done. How many people could put red, black, lavender and gaudy together and make it work. This show is about designing, not how sweet and nice you are. I also enjoyed watching Josh, but I didn't see him do any designing that was memberable. He was amazing at shopping for accessories. Kim has ridden the coattails for awhile. Robb's ideas for the kitchen were amazing. If she had been by herself, Kim would be gone. As TJamav said on his blog, she knew NOTHING about kitchens and even shopping for accessories, Kim was mainstream. She did a very bland job on decorating. Just go back and see the show again. There was so much she could have added with color and creativeness. Yes, Josh would have certainly come through on this competition. Kim may have showmanship, but this again is about finding a designing talent. To be totally honest, I don't see the talent that was shown on the first season's episodes, when David won. I like Will, but am not impressed with anything he has brought to the table and Todd is a bit on the extreme. I guess we will have to wait to see how all this plays out. Next time Kim will be by herself, so let's see if she has it. I really can't wait till this season is over and a new one starts. I would not call one of these people to design or makeover my home. Also, when someone leaves the show, they all handle it differently. Who's to say if Robb was sincere or not? He now has to leave and hopefully will evaluate himself. Being a bit kinder or gentler may help him. I am suprised at how mean spirited David' video was. I am a huge fan of his and from the second episode wanted him to win. He just seemed so happy Robb was gone. This truly caught me offguard. But, we are all human. I am a believer of the sayng, "people who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones." BUT,in saying this, please HGTV, (Clive) let's get this one over with and start with some real talent designers. Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day.

Josh - you have a great talent for design, sparkle or no sparkle. Wished you were still on Design Star and wish you nothing but the best. I also just checked out your web site and love it! Very creative...

Hope you and Will are as good of friends as you appeared on the show - together your designs would WOW us viewers... Ever thought of the Will & Sparkle show? I would watch and admire your talent.

Boy, was I glad to see Robb go!! He did some good designs but with that needed to be personality. He treated everyone as though they were beneath him.
I too was saddened when Glitter Josh left. I know the judges said he had trouble putting that terrific shopping into a design but I think given some time he would have wowed the design. I miss you Glitter! Good luck with all of your endevors.
I can't wait to see what tommorow bring with the remaining 3. They all have great talent. I haven't decided yet on who I want to be the next Design Star.
Well, I'll be joining all of Y'all tommorow. Have a great Labor Day.

I, too, was so sad to see Josh get voted off. He is so REAL! I hope he gets his own TV show. I would watch it just to be uplifted every day!!! It's true that the judges have certain guidelines they must follow and we don't know what all of them are, so we can't be too down on them. I think they've struggled with this, too. I hope Robb can see how his arrrogant attitude and complete disregard for people's feelings have hurt him. Hopefully, he'll learn that there's a better way to get what he wants in this world!

I logged on to HGTV because I felt compelled to say how much I enjoyed watching the kindness, wit and talent displayed by Will and Sparkle Josh. They are truly wonderful as a duo. I thought they would make a great design team on HGTV. Boy, was I surprised to see how many people love the two of them. Josh made my heart feel peaceful. He has a personna of great empathy, peace and joy. I will really miss him. If HGTV was smart, they would put together a design show similar to what some other networks have done, utilizing the talents of those men amongst us who are very in tuned with their inner "sparkle." These two are truly blessed and their presence blesses us all. Their smiles are electrifying in a gentle and loving way.

I am really delighted that Josh Johnson was able to read the comments from his many fans. He is obviuosly quite an honorable young man with a good heart. I will always think that he should have been the design star pick for this year regardless of who the final choice is. I think this was a terrible season and hopefully next year things will improve. There most definitely was not enough individual talent showcased - very disappointing.

Posted by Kathy – August 31, 2007 9:51 PM

Josh, so nice to hear from you! You are a person who truly has class and I too regret your leaving the show. But I'm so glad new opportunities have opened for you. I have to admit, when I first saw you I thought "this guy is just TOO pretty!" but your charming and sincere personalilty quickly won me over. We wish you all the best.

I don't get it....I saw Todd's website where he acknowledges in his own words that his design style is only appealing "to a select few"....Why would HGTV want a show with a designer who only appeals "to a select few"? Or wait, maybe it's HGTV who doesn't "get it"....anyway...they lost their chance at a "Design Star" when Josh left...I do like Will, but unfortunately nobody left has the "Sparkle".....

I met you at your brothers wedding, I am a teacher friend of Brenda M of Knoxville. We were in such awe of the beautiful wedding you did for your brother and the song you wrote and sang. You are an awesome person and remember God does answer our dreams. We know you'll do great in your next adventure of life. Thank you for your "optimistically exist and peacefully survive" comment.I hope more people will see and understand your example of living a Godly life.

I've been trying for 4 days to blog on Design Star. Has anyone else had trouble getting on it? And, when I am able to read the comments, half of the comments disappear off the left side of the page (along with the "post a comment" section.) Does anyone know how to correct this? Thanks.

Posted by Ilene – August 30, 2007 10:34 PM

Josh, Many of us enjoyed watching you on the show and thought you were the most personable of contestants. I thought your designs were great!

I read this question in another part of the blog, but can you tell us here: how long ago was the show recorded?

Posted by JAM – August 30, 2007 6:12 PM

If Robb is a REAL designer from Orlando, I wish some of his past clients would write in and share their experience with him...good or bad.

Posted by Ricardo – August 30, 2007 9:26 AM

Josh, I went to your web site and I must say I was amazed, you are one taleted young man. Hang in there your day will come soon

I read a message saying something about Will not doing much when he set up the banquet hall for the wedding party. I have worked in hotels for over 20 years mostly in banquet halls and I know how much work is put into getting ready for any event. People have no idea how long it takes to set up for these events, sometimes it takes several hours to a couple days to get ready. So I know he worked his A-- off. When I worked at the hotels my setup guys where the hardest workers at the whole hotel. They worked their A-- off

I finally read Todd's blog and I don't believe that any contestant should be allowed to do that when they are still in the contest. He should be removed right away.

Josh, thank you for your articulate, sensative and well constructed comments. You not only sparkle, but you have a lot of class and dignity. You are a unique individual as you have qualities that appeal to what I believe are a broad spectrum of individuals. I truly believe that design is about helping individuals become more comfortable with their environment, as a great space only enhances your personal and professional performance. God speed and I wish you much success.

Josh,
Your qualities have shown through! The sparkle that radiates is from within and has endeared you to so many. You are able to convey to others your generosity of spirit. You will always be "the Design Star" to me.......I've seen you in action and your finished creations!!!! I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing more of
your talent. I can see a "new Star" shining!!!! Best Wishes Always!!Brenda in K-Town

Folks I hate to tell you this, but Robb is a real designer from Orlando, not an actor plant. And he is a disgrace to this fine city that has so much design talent(you might want to read the article in the Orlando Sentinel newspaper after week 2). This show is breaking my heart. First we lose Scott, them Sparkle Josh. I agree, I would love to watch his show any day compared to some of those left. I was proud of Kim for standing up to Robb and speaking her mind, which finally pushed Robb over the edge so the judges could see the "brillo". I like all 3 who are left, but I'm afraid that Will will need some acting lessons to get him through another week. Kim is a great host personality, but I'm afraid Todd is going to run out of these "wild" ideas. This week should be very interesting since they get to be judged on their own designs and hosting ability. And PLEASE, no more kitchens, unless they ALL have them. It really isn't fair to pit a kitchen against a dining room. Thanks for listening.

ROBB looks very familiar to me. I know lots of shows, have seen countless live performances and have been all around this country. I'm sure he is an actor of sorts but I don't think his real name is Robb...who else could be that annoying AND have the judges on your side until near the end? Remember Robb was on the chopping block in the first two episodes. Bye Bye Robbie...even the tears looked fake!

Why do 'reality' shows always try to top each other by bragging about how much DRAMA they have on their show?? To me, that is not reality at all...at least in my world. I purposely ignore drama all around me. I AM HAPPY and THAT is my REALITY!

If you haven't already, I suggest you check out Sparkle Josh's website at http://www.joshjohnson.net Amazing talent! Also, I rewatched the show where the contestants learned they were chosen...if you look in the background of the designers' homes, (when they are on the phone) there is some very interesting design, especially in Josh's home and Will's home. I know it is a brief shot but if you can pause the show, you are in for some real design!

Posted by Ricardo – August 29, 2007 6:16 PM

I too was rooting for Sparkle Josh. He appears to be the kind of person I'd wnat in my home every Tuesday at 9 PM... or when ever. OK he may be a better shopper than designer but --make a show about shopping! We all need help there! You had a diamond. Don't throw it away. At least you finally removed Robb.

I saw the blog and have a question, is appropriate for Todd Davis to post a blog on this site including his URL when he is still a contender in the DS series?

Posted by CCRC – August 29, 2007 4:30 PM

OK, I just now got some time to blog about Design Star. I think I really would have been curious to see how Lisa would have stepped up to the other challenges if she had the opportunity. That garage door area looks cool, after all, the digs are temporary...make it look different! Anyhoo, was glad to see Robb go, it's almost like he was planted to be the antagonist. I think "green Josh" had a kind personality, Neeraja...whatever...who cares, Christina was talented no question, but prissy...and she tried to throw Adriana in front of the train! Scott was definitely talented and creative, good with color...but that individual room challenge,YIKES! Down to the last three, I like Kim's personality, she's very diplomatic and creative, but weak on hardcore design skills. Todd is pretty, talented, and kind of a one-trick pony with his extreme style. Will is my choice...talent, strong on the follow-thru, he has well thought-out design plans...his achilles heel is the "hosting", Hey Will...be yourself! Everyone likes you. There's no rule that says the host has to be super-outgoing or jokey jokey all the time. When you get your show, get a sidekick for that garbage! Love ya...

HGTV & the Design Star Judges: You blew it.
Getting rid of Sparkle Josh was a huge mistake. From the start it was clear that he was the winner. Last season David was the stand-out from the start but this season Sparkle Josh stood out even more. Obviously he's the one who should have his own show. Fans are disappointed because we were really looking forward to watching that show. Frankly, I don't know that I'd be all that interested in watching a show by any of the other contestants. But you can be sure that I would watch a show hosted by Sparkle Josh. I just can't figure out what you are thinking. Who do you think is watching HGTV??!!

Posted by trixie – August 29, 2007 12:08 PM

I was saddened to see "Sparkle" Josh go. I have been watching this avidly each week to see what he will do. I agree with everyone on here that Robb leaving was long over-due. Right now I am hoping Will and Kim are left as the last two standing. If possible I would love to see Will and Josh host a show together. They worked so well with one another and I think with Will's ability to design and Josh's ability to shop and coordinate it would make a great dynamic duo. Their personalities mesh so well any show with them would be a blast to watch!

This is my first blog,v but I couldn't resist. I am amazed and downright tickled to find that so many people shre my deepest disgust for Robb!! So many of you put it so eloquently; I read for 2 hours nodding in agreement. I, too, miss Sparkle Josh and Christina. Wrongful eliminations for sure. I couldn't contain my joy when Robb finally got the boot. I think he's a racist and a very nasty jack***. I vowed to stop watching the show if he wasn't eliminated. Hopefully, the powers that be will ead these blogs and not repeat their mistakes next year.

Dear Josh,
You are not only tremendously talented but such a truly wonderful human being! I pray that God will continue to bless you tremendously as you are so gifted. You should also write a book on design because YOU are about the only person who designs from your heart. A great design touches the heart. And you truly are a heart toucher!
Ya know, you should still be there now and Robb should've been kicked off in handcuffs into a rubber room a long time ago. What makes a bully better than someone with a heart and talent? Truly I am disappointed in the judges since their judgement was totally off. I mean lets be serious! I would let you into my house to design and for dinner. I would NEVER let Lunatic Robb even NEAR my house! Oh well, everything happens for a reason and you have been spared any further unfair critisism from the three who undoubtly lost their sparkle long ago. Keep shining our sparkling design wonder of the world! You're beautiful and WE are the ones truly blessed by your presense on Design Star! God bless you! Hugs, Deb

Thanks!

I really liked sparkle Josh by far and above the best. I wish that the show itself would give these designers more single challenges. It would be nice if they weren't double eliminated every week. I'd like to see more of their talents on an individual level. I felt bad for Josh but I also feel he shouldn't even have been on the chopping block with Will. It appeared that there was a contribution from everbody in that challenge and the judges should have just counted the first elimination at the beginning of the show - said "good job everyone" and called it a day. I feel like they eliminated him for really no reason at all.

Posted by Lee Hung – August 28, 2007 8:05 PM

Sparkle Josh! I miss you, the show has lost it's heart. I will be watching to see how long it takes for a Design Show or Program to snatch you up and make you the mega star you deserve to be. Thank you for making this Season of Design Star more fun and enjoyable.

Posted by LaDasa – August 28, 2007 8:02 PM

A comment on the comments: Yes, more individual challenges would give us a better idea about everyone's talent, but the team challenges are how we get a look into the person. Without these it may have taken us a lot longer to see how really nasty Robb is. Maybe the solution is to eliminate people one at a time instead of in pairs.

Posted by alexpio – August 28, 2007 7:20 PM

Sparkle was wonderful....such a gentleman and very talented. I liked how he worked with Will and I liked the room he did with the pink and gray. I was sorry to see him go....and I hope he will return to HGTV for something - anything soon....God bless you Sparkle!

Yes, we need a show with Josh and Will co-hosting they make a great team. Josh with the sparkle and Will with his practicality. I would love to have either one design my home. It would be fantastic to veiw more designs by them on television.

I am upset about last week's show. Yes, Rob had some personality conflicts that actually were put onto him from the beginning program. I do not think he should have been eliminated!! I heard KIM say on the first show...I know nothing about kitchens. So now all the sudden, she knows "something" about kitchens and should be chosen over Rob because she didn't do the work that he did....she "shopped." Sorry, Rob should still be on the show....he is a designer, KIM is not. Also, Sparkle JOSH should still also be on the show....he is a designer and had great ideas on the projects. So, the ones who had talent are gone....I'm not sure what criteria the judges are using to eliminate people, but I think they should re-evaluate their choices. KIM would be my last choice...she is sweet, but not a designer...she is a hairstylist....how was she even chosen to compete is my question. I have lost total interest in this SHOW and will not plan to watch any more of the episodes. I do not respect the judges choices. As I have read in others' blogs, last seasons choices were much better...David and Alice both are great. Josh is the only one in my estimate who could have grown with a Show of his Own and perhaps Robb...but, both have been eliminated. I think WILL is the only one that's left who knows the design business, TODD knows how to "build" platforms (he certainly has shown us that), but how many can you build? KIM is plainly not qualified.

Posted by TJAMAR – August 28, 2007 3:08 PM

Somehow, Design Star has lost its Sparkle. HGTV, if you are listening, can you please bring the "Sparkle" back to HGTV? I hope you are listening to your fans because this is a show we would love to see.

oh my DOG! None of these people have talent, are you kidding me! You have surfer boy who should be a graphic artist, totally not practical in a real life setting. Honestly, does anyone, ANYONE see a David Bromstad talent here? NO! NOTE TO ROBB: YOU WILL GO NO WHERE WITH YOUR ATTITUDE! WATCH YOURSELF ON THE SHOW, nothing is EVER your fault maybe that is why you havent gotten very far..good riddens to bad rubbish.. Kim and Will are ok but should go to design school to polish their skills. Would any of you REALLY get excited to see their show? or anticipate what they will create like David? PLEASE pull the plug and start over HGTV..

Just wanted to add that I too enjoyed watching what Josh came up with.I thought all the contestants did a great job with the 99 cent store competition. I too would love to see HGTV give him a shopping and/or a Christmas show of his own.
I agree that Todd has a lot of great innovative ideas. He does come across as a little arrogant, I suppose, but I think it's really just the confidence born of excelling at almost anything he's done.I was very glad to see Robb ,leave, as his arrogance was not due to a lot of talent.Even though he had some good designs, he was not willing to consider others ideas as having any merit and worked very poorly with others. This is why the show has so many team contests, to see how they can work with and direct others.
I really enjoy Will's designs, and feel that he has great talent, but feel that he doesn't really have the personality to host a show. However, I would be interested to see if ,with coaching, that could change.Kim also has some great talent and did better at the presentation, than I originally thought she would.

Sparkle Josh, you are pure class and kindness! What a wonderful, touching letter. As one of my dear friends often says, "Truth always rises." You are a true design star, and I'll just bet that since so many HGTV fans are rallying around you and simply adore you, you will have your own show one way or another. I live just a couple of hours away from you. I know some charming places to go for lunch and lots of other beautiful, warm people. We should all meet for lunch someday. By the way, thanks to you, Josh, and all the other designers from the South, i.e., Will, Cristina, and even gorgeous David Bromstad, for showing the rest of the country that so much artistic genius and style comes from our region of the country. Most of us aren't as backward, as we are portrayed in the media. Love to all.

So so so glad to see Rob off the show!!! He was one of the rudest people I have ever seen and cannot for the life of me see how he was on te show so long. Josh was judged for a design done the week before and it was much better than some of the drsigns that made it through. Kim has more patience than I would have had with Robb. As she said they were partners and he thought she was his little slave. She and Josh have more talent in their little finger than his whole inflated ego.

So many great ideas! Hey, HGTV Design Star folks, I realize that the competition geared for just one winner, but how about changing it to a "desigbn team!" Instead of one winner, take the remaining competitors and make them into a real team, going out to do things as a team rather than just one person. Reward these 3 folks for their smarts and kindnesses.

Posted by Charleen – August 27, 2007 10:53 PM

Sparkle Josh, you are a person with style and class. HGTV made a huge mistake when they eliminated you from the competition. I wonder if they would have made a different decision if they had realized how much we love you. Because the show is taped in advance, the network and judges do not know how viewers will feel about the designers. But now they know, so I truly hope that a network will offer you an apportunity to showcase your talents and genuine personality. I would watch any show you host. Take care of yourself and I hope to see you on your own show in the near future.

When there was a sadness, Sparkle Josh wept. And when he had to leave, Sparkle Sparkled with such graciousness, genuine, and heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity. I wasn't a fan in the beginning, but by the 3rd show I was rootin' for The Guy With the Shine. I have no doubt he will be a most successful designer all his life.....and a blessed person filled with gratitude. Thank you for showing us such aphenomenal departure presentation. I wish I could be like him. (I'm 64)

Josh,
You are a class act. It is a rare quality today when someone mentions the blessing they've received, especially during a big disappointment. Continue to take the high road. You shine your light (and sparkle) on all who meet you. God bless. I will watch for your success.

Posted by jada07 – August 27, 2007 7:54 PM

The Sparkle has left the building....
What a class act....your show is cancelled and you sit there in your exit interview and say how blessed you are and appreciate so much the chance to be a part of the show...about how you will miss everyone....You did not whine!!
You "sparkle" with talent, class and sincerity.
You are one in a million, Josh.
I am a Tennessean like you, so you had me from the start.
I believe we are going to see a lot more of you and I hope it is real soon.
I will not say "Good Luck" as luck is made better by those who believe life is more that luck....(copied)
God Bless.

Josh - you are truly a sparkling star. I wish you all the very best as you persue your career.

I still can not bwlieve Josh wrote to us!! What a true gentleman. I am sure someone on HGTV reads these blogs, why don't they bring Josh back?? by popular demand. So very many people have voiced their opinion why aren't they listening? I don't even want to think the viewing audience does not matter to them. We give them the ratings plus, buy products from the sponsors. I believe if Josh was in the race now with a design by himself he would win hands down because he has the class as David does. Thank you Josh for responding with such grace, we all really miss you. Please let us know what TV show you get (We know you will) so we can watch you. God bless you Josh!

My first comment relates to the puzzlement of the designers about how to use purple and red together. Have they never heard of the color wheel? Or taken a look at the wonders of the natural world where the two colors are often wrapped around each other. How disappointing they are lacking in such a simple concept as color. And along with so many others, the dismissal of Sparkle Josh was so unfair. I for one am absolutely tired of the group challenges. They show me nothing of the individual talent these people are trying to show, and it is hard to judge how a person would do on their own show, if all they can do is try and keep from being attacked by certain others who are determined to win at all cost. I would not watch a show with either Todd or Rob at its helm; I just don't like what they come across as...though I did like the waves, it was absolutely useless as a room I could use. Please give us a Sparkle show...Please...Please... Please!!!

Although I am a Grandma, I still love to be dazzled and I feel that Josh is the very best host for HGTV! His sparkle always made my Sunday nights! His piz-azzzzzzz is fun, zany, and so full of his wonderful personality! HGTV should give him a show!!!! It's boring without him!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Josh Johnson (aka "Sparkle Josh" whom the judges wrongly removed) because, in addition to his design talent and experience, his gracious and kind treatment of others (the mark of a gentleman) makes him JUST the kind of person who should be the next DESIGN STAR.

I think Josh was torpedoed by Vern Yip. Vern seemed to dislike Josh from the first (remember his reaction to Josh at the initial interview episode?) - probably because their design styles and personalities are too disimilar for Vern's "aesthetic sensibility" (he's almost a pompous professor, teaching America the "right" way to design?). Vern's designs on his previous show, Trading Spaces, were always careful and thoughtful. However, his style was usually too CONTEMPORARY for my taste (and dare I say, most of America), though the product was almost always a nicely planned and finished room. His design sensability is much like his on-camera persona: very Contemporary & calculated & balanced, but usually lacking in personal warmth, humor, or a bit of "flare". Poor Vern's smiles even seem forced!

How could Vern relate to Josh? Josh who, like his designs, is full of warmth, personality, humor, and fun! Josh knows how to interact with people: he listens and delivers not only with talent and professionalism, but also with charm, personality, and SPARKLE! Now there's a Design Star for America (appealing to all but the most staid segments of hgtv's viewers). I can't believe HGTV let Josh get away! Seems the producers could have over-ruled Vern! What were they thinking!?!

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! Robb is finally gone and his parting comments really showed his total personality, I don't think he heard anything the judges had to say and showed no class about it at all, I think that Kim should get a Gold Star for making it through the assignment without blowing a designer head gasket! Kudo's to you Kim! After watching the first episodes during the Design Star marathon yesterday (I missed the first two episodes originally) The judges had a tough job choosing the contestants for the show but the fist assignment, I have to say I was really disappointed that it was Lisa(?) that was voted off by the judges when watching how much Robb started off by laying in blame, fighting, arguing and the total lack of fit his contribution to the area he put in to that area he and organic Josh created WOW- I actually found myself trying to mind meld with the judges to change the outcome of the very first vote!!! Perhaps if they could have foreseen the troubles to come .....that or the unfinished bar area with the messy paint job over the stairs either one...I just wish we could have seen at least one more week of Lisa to see what she had to offer. I applaud the outcome of the vote from Wayne Newton's home...better late than never...I just wish the judges could vote Josh back on. What a wonderful and wise choice it would be on the part of HGTV to decide to bring Josh back to allow America to vote. After all, who watches the show????? AND who benefits from who watches the show??????? Just some "Sparkle" for thought for the executives and Clive!

I think josh Johnson is the best designer in the show. He also appear to be very likeable. I wish he will have a very very bright future!

Posted by Pamela – August 27, 2007 3:04 PM

Hey Josh!! It was sure great to hear from you and to know you are still encourageing others to "sparkle". But that's just a Tennesseean for you. We have to stick together. I am so glad Robb is gone. That guy just got on my last nerve. I thought Kim knew more than what Robb gave her credit for and she showed who the real grown up was last night. Todd impressed me with his invention of the rotating platform. I saw what he was saying butunless you have a room that is that large you can't do it. Will is just a great designer and knows his stuff it was his first time in front of a camera presenting a room and i'm sure he was a little nervous. I couldn't have done it at all. But I agree Kim was the best a presenting her room. I'm glad she is still here. You go Kim!!! I still think that a Josh and Will show would be great!! Look forward to next weeks show to see who really can design.

Question for HGTV: Is there a show you can get for Josh Johnson for him to teach us how to shop for items for our homes because I would love to know HOW HE DOES IT!!!!! He has a vision and I would like to know how to get that vision.

Posted by Beth – August 27, 2007 2:25 PM

I will say this, I found Todd's blog and I believe it is a shallow attempt to win votes. I also think that I believe 0% of his sincerity. I do however believe and respect the integity of Josh and feel that he is genuine and unsullied but what notoritety he has received. I feel his thanks and well wishes and kind words toward others are heart felt.

Todd hasn't been mean to anyone as Robb was but I believe anyone who can become that obviously close to someone of that caliber has many of those traits themselves- takes one to know one. Todd NEVER defended anyone and has stayed visually neutral and that is a shame.

Robb's tantrums and his ease with which he stabed Will and his tyrade against Kim (Kim, thanks for staying in a higher place, it paid off) was a distrubing insight into this person and I can't believe this man has any friends what-so-ever.

I am sure the Design Star "show", needs to be dramatic and interesting, but this year does not compare to last season.
Some how they have failed to showcase the real talents of these designers.
I know they must be better than what we have seen.
My husband and I are diehard fans of HGTV and love Color Splash with David.
We liked Alice and her lovely personality last season, but voted for David hands down!
He has not only pleased, but exceded our expectations.
WE are hoping this seasons winner will be as unique.
I agree with everybody that Josh Johnson would be a great access to HGTV's lineup. He has the personality and is very clever with shopping and design.
If HGTV is listening to their viewers they will get on the ball and work something out quick with him.
Thanks,
VP and J

So disappointed to see Josh go. Aa a very talanted person, he seems to also present himself
in a positive way. I would love to see him ans
Will in a show together. Sure hope the producers
listen to the viewers.

I am a devoted fan of Design Star. I have not participated in the BLOG up to now. But I had to stop by and say a big YES!!! and THANK YOU! to the judges for eliminating Robb. Talent is important, but personality, teamwork, humanity all trump it. And Robb doesnt have a clue why he was eliminated??? Not surprising. His type of person rarely understands why he is disliked. I hated him from the beginning and could not believe that he made it so far. I am a happy camper today.

I truly like Josh and thought Robb should have gone instead, but I have to say his last 2 designing efforts left a lot to be desired. And I would ask him to close the shirt as well as Todd putting his shirt on in the first place.

Josh,

I personally, think you were the best on the show. I hope you take it upon yourself, to go out there and show the world that even when poor decisions are made, that you can make it to the big time on your own merits! I know you have it in you ... never lose the "sparkle"!!!

Way to go Judges! No one with a brain wants to watch one designer belittle another on national TV. Let's get this competition rolling. I would like to see more creativity and use of functional design. These last three have what it takes creativly, but only one will shine personality wise. I've already picked the winner. I picked David on the first go round. Can't wait to see if I'm right this time.

Posted by Karen Michaels – August 27, 2007 9:17 AM

Hey Sparkle (love that nickname!),

I was truly impressed with your shopping skills and taste. When I saw your entry presentation, I feared your style would be all drama diva (a cool style, but not the only one). Instead you showed wonderful taste in other styles, especially in the kitchen show.

You have a fantastic personality, and great natural talent and flair. I know the shows didn't give you a full scope to showcase your abilities as a designer, but they're all I have to go by. In using them as a yardstick, I think you might benefit from taking some additional classes in design basics for many varied rooms and styles, as well as a bit of handyman instruction. You may not need to *use* much of the handyman work---but simply knowing how to calculate for how much lumber for a floor, for instance, is priceless... as well as the better understanding of time constraints such lessons could give you, for the construction teams.

You have the natural talent, and by adding these and other areas to your skills, you have strong potential to become a "Renaissance Man" of design: knowledgable in a wide variety of areas, with a unique flair to bring to all.

Since you've met many wonderful people at HGTV, I strongly suggest you contact several of them (including and especially Vern Yip and the other judges) for advice on what schools and courses they would recommend for you---that's a great leg-up in the learning process. You've got an advantage few truly talented aspiring designers get: critiquing from renowned professionals---USE THE GIFT! Everyone liked you, and I'm sure they'd be happy to give you a little advice on those topics.

This show, for you, was not a failure (as some think): it was an opportunity! You met great pros, have national recognition, encountered circumstances more trying than most of real-life design... your stage is set. Take what you got from it, use it to give you direction in growing as a designer, and when you've gotten a sturdier foundation for your work, open your own business! I would suggest relocating to a scene like L.A., NYC, or Miami---frankly, there are more people there who will offer you opportunities to do what you love best: design for celebrities and those with "celeb-like" taste. But you can still also have the "meat and potatoes" clients, who want a classy take on other styles... and give them that too, with great satisfaction to your heart and theirs.

Get going, boy! Follow your true calling. Accept and use the gifts from your experience, train in the areas you need further knowledge and skill... and then open your own agency, where you will obviously move on to enrich many people's living space and lives.

Of everyone on the show, YOU have the greatest potential to become a world-class designer: DO it. And if you ever want help or encouragement, or another viewpoint on an experience, let me know and I'll happily try to help. I'm a 44-yr-old wife, mom, and artist in Atlanta... and right now I'm doing the same thing: having found my true calling, I'm working on bettering my skills, because some day my husband and I want to open a photo and art gallery here.

If you would like to contact me, use the URL I posted to contact me via my Deviant Art page (and please don't judge my art by what's there---I have other pieces I haven't scanned in yet; I mainly put up some of my fantasy art there)... and, I'm also a work in progress, heh.

Best of Luck to you, and I hope my advice and encouragement have helped!

Sincerely,
sol

Thank God you are blogging with us "Sparkles".
I am a Hendersonville native. who is temporarily relocated to another state. When I heard that there was a contestant from my home town I got real excited and decided that I would cheer for you even if you did not have talent. Boy was I surprised. You have more talent than any of the other contestants (past and present), as well as the judges too! I think Yippy Do da is a little threatened by your talents. Hopefully the producers of the network will grab you for another show.
When last nights episode began my first thought was only Josh J would know what to do with the Newton's house after seeing how grand and over the top it was with the antiques. Thank goodness that the remaining hopefulls had to design the guest house. I miss you and when I get to move home hopefully I can hire you or your firm to decorate a room for me if you are not too famous by then. Best wishes and many thanks. Love ya much. Tina

I have to say that I was on vacation when Josh was let go and I thought that was a big mistake. I felt he still had it in him to show us something of his great story board. I would have loved to see something of them in practice. I understood the comment that Josh is a "good shopper" but didn't agree in the least that he lacks design knowledge. Does anyone remember the dinning room that no one helped him with and the fact that that was the only thing that saved the Neeraja team from utter humiliation?!. Shame YIP.

As for last night, I felt Josh would have been brilliant but the mess we were left with was as Josh himself said, " ...a riveting hour of design television." Robb's true colors finally showed themselves. (as if they were hiding) His GOD-like tirade against Kim and his back stab of Will last week only goes to support the threat that I wouldn't watch a show where I know that person is a mean, angry and selfish sot underneath. His undeserved ego did him in. He didn't even try to hide his hatefulness.
Well, on to next week. I hope Will can pick up his skills a little. I really would like to see him in the top two. I actually don't think that any of them have distinguished themselves yet as someone who can carry a show and I don't know if they really can in such a short period of time. I think the challenges are not indicative of what an HGTV show will be about and I don't really see the practical reason behind team competitions.
So, having done my little jig last night and the smile hearing from Josh brought to my face this morning. I am probably going to stick it out and see if Todd ever really puts anything reasonable logical in a design (I don't agree with the judges who want flaky design- it isn't practical) or if Kim can move out from under Robb's deluge and show us what it is that got her to this point or if Will really has the personality to wow us with his great knowledge (and he really does understand design). I'm looking forward to a great relaxing show this week.

Hey Josh, I've very much enjoyed your personal integrity and visage throughout this entire series. Thank you, Sir!

Hi Josh,
I just want to say they let the wrong person go when they let you go. Don't give up I believe you will have your on show one day, if not on HGTV than with another show. You where GREAT.

I think you and Will made a good team.

Thank God they got rid of Mr. personality with an obnoxious attitude problem "Robb" He should have been the one to go instead of you

Posted by shirley – August 27, 2007 5:54 AM

I thought Josh was amazing, I wanted to see him continue. I was so sad when he was taken off. I really thought he might be the one. I was also sad about Scott. Both Josh and Scott are great designers and this team of people has lost their best shopper. Josh's choices shopping were well above the rest. I'm worried now about Will and Kim. Will is a great designer but not outspoken or exciting to listen to. Kim is so unsure of herself, want to see her more confident. I really do like Todd but I don't see how he could work in the real world for people who need to function. He did design the table susan for Wayne Newton however that was luck I think. He is so creative I think he should maybe look at designing sets for plays, art work on surfboards, the more fantasy end of designing. My heart really hurts for Josh. He is so talented and I really hope he does not give up but maybe opens up his own design firm at some point. He's very gifted and communicates well and works well with others.

Sparkle Josh - I just want to say you will always be a Design Star to me. You are a talent and a sweetheart inside and out. May you continue to shine :) I wish the very best for you always - - -

And tonight's show had me riveted too! I know this isn't a very kind thing to say, but boy was I glad to see Robb go.... finally! He said it himself - he FOUGHT his way through the entire show. Literally! The way he treated Kim and the things he said on camera were SO inappropriate! What a relief to have someone so argumentative GONE!

Love the show - - -

Tears? Come on! Robb has had many chances to change his attitude. Being last choice for the second project should have been his "light bulb moment." He IS talented but I couldn't imagine him getting ANYONE to work with or for him if he had his own show. He spent more time bragging about himself and demeaning others, than paying attention to details - like measuring and calculating! He did that TWICE. Do-overs are costly in the "real" design world.

I felt sorry for Kim's luck-of-the-draw, but she finally got a chance to show what SHE is made of AND draw needed attention to Robb's attitude. Kim's presentation was the deemed the "best", and I agree.

The judges were harsh about Will's presentation, but seemed to forget about David B.'s last year. David received coaching and practice before his show aired, and so can this year's winner...IF they have the "right stuff". I am still amazed that there are two people in the finals with no professional design training or experience. They haven't had much chance to show any off other skills with fabrics and accessories, or designs they can convey to a carpenter. There is only so much you can do with kitchens...or with supplies from a 99 cent store.

Then there's Todd - who I had tagged as a designer with a style that MOST of the HGTV viewers wouldn't want or need. That was until I saw his design firm website and realized he is a talented landscape designer, high end decorator/designer and he custom designs furniture. I am confused as to why he would WANT to be in this competition, OR want to have a design show unless it was on the scale of Divine Design - which I love to watch but have no hopes of ever affording (or even copying) one piece of furniture or accessory on that show, not to mention architecural changes. Will the TRUE Todd Davis please step forward? The playing field seems unlevel. Next week will be the true test -- designing out in the real world. But the bottom line is still "will we want to WATCH this person design on a weekly basis?" Unlike last season -- I can't say yes to any of them....yet.

Hello Everyone--

Oh my word....what a rivoting hour of design television!!....I have to say that I can only empathize with the emotional duress, physical exhaustion, and mental distress that Kim, Will, Rob, and Todd were encountering at this stage of the competition. I believe that with the time constraints, the spaces were transformed into an amazingly monumental and fantastically beautiful result. I also know that a major source of personal tension originated from the fact that each one of them was required to in essence "turn on" in the midst of competiton anguish, and become an instant show host- all smiles, delight, and fun- how difficult and heart-wrenching! Ultimately, I extend my highest commendation and exaltation to the remaining four for their effort, endurance, and star quality in the face of dramatic adversity and intense competition. I love these people and what they brought to the entire show, and truly value their strong efforts, fine results, and notable endurance. Thank you again to everyone who continues to tune in and that cares enough to continue reading my thoughts and sentiments about Design Star- your devotion and kindness are priceless.

Remember to forever BELIEVE, BE TRUE, and BEDAZZLE.

God Bless--

I still cannot believe Sparkle Josh is gone. His personality is infectious. I agree with many who think he needs his own shopping show on HGTV. I would definitely tune in. Most of us are wanting to know how to buy for our homes and where the best deals are. I also have to say Christine was also great to watch and someone you want to see more of.

Sparkle Josh, you truly are a sparkle of southern grace.

Hi Josh,
I, too, was saddened by your exit last week, but you certainly did so with what is apparently your customary grace and charm. You obviously have a God-given talent and know how to use it. I wish you the best of luck and wish you were the new Design Star--you'll always be a design star in my book!

Posted by denverslady – August 27, 2007 12:12 AM

Sparkle Josh, you are a delight in talent, personality, and in every way! We have not seen the last of you! On the other end of things, HGTV really blew it in allowing a moronic bully like Robb to even appear in front of the camera...very bad decision for the sake of drama and ratings. It truly was painful to watch and kudos to Kim tonight for her classy handling of an untenable situation!!!

The show this week was so dull without Sparkle Josh. Of all the contestants, he's the only one I would want in my home.

Posted by Jolinne – August 26, 2007 11:44 PM

I followed the link someone provided and sent the following message to HGTV:

"The judges on American Idol spend months talking about and looking for the "IT" factor. Your judges had "IT" served to them on a platter and threw it away. Since there is no law prohibiting you from giving a show to a contestant that does NOT win, I suggest that the deciders at HGTV do the sensible thing and give Sparkle Josh Johnson his own show ASAP! He has "IT" all, and we want to see "IT" on a regular basis!"

Josh, you are one in a million! You are charming, witty, and gracious; these traits are all the more special today because of their rarity. Personally, I loved your 99 cent room, and, at age 60, I am definitely past Barbie! Tennessee (I live in Memphis) is proud of you.

Posted by Rebecca – August 26, 2007 11:40 PM

Since Josh cannot be the Design Star winner I think HGTV should at least bring him back and give him a "one time" show based on decorating for Christmas. Hey! isn't Christmas all about Sparkle? How 'bout it?

....HGTV...,DO YOU HEAR THE MASSES??????
Too bad Sparkle wasn't on tonight...it would have been HIS show, hands down...especially when it came to the ability to host a show...Clive, you may want to think about this one...I mean after all, you are the man...right??? It would be a bad call not to grab this man up before someone else does...the world needs some "SPARKLE"

Josh, first, let me tell you that I, along with many others cried when your show was canceled. YOU HAVE SOOOO MUCH TALENT!!!! Thanks for making Design Star so interesting. I absolutely loved everything you did!!!! I want you to decorate my master bedroom - LOL - it is huge and i have no idea what to do with it.

*SPARKLE* JOSH, YOU ROCK!!!!

God Bless You!

I agree with other comments - this season needed many more individual challenges. Teamwork is one thing, but trying to isolate an individual's talent is far more difficult with others involved.

I'm surprised at the number of people that like Sparkle Josh's 99 cent room design - I agree with Vern 100 pct - it was tacky. Josh was lucky he didn't go that week. My point is, if there were more individual assignments, I think Sparkle Josh would have left fairly early on, because he was adding a bit of sparkle to a group design. Left to his own design, yikes! Where's the trailer park?
Go Kim!

Dear Josh,
Thanks for reminding me not to be a cynic. In the midst of competition its all too easy to forget your principles, and you did not. I apologize for initially thinking that you had been brought on the show for comic relief – you are graciousness personified. Where I expected tacky, I got anything but. Keep up the good work, God bless, and good luck.

And Todd,
I believe you have amazing talent and have been unfairly lumped with Robb (who quite deliberately sets out to be obnoxious!). I really respect you as a designer and am sure you have much to contribute. (Personally speaking, how about keeping your shirt on, and your antics subdued ?). Good luck to you too.

I too felt like Sparkle Josh should have been in the final 3. The final 3 show will truly showcase each ones individual challenge that we haven't seen thus far. The final 3 should have been Will, Kim and Sparkle Josh. I am so very glad that Rob is GONE. He really showed his behind tonite with Kim. He had no respect for her, he thought he was the best and no one else is better than him. Rob if you are reading the blogs, no this, in life if you continue to put people down to get ahead, then you will go no where. If you want you own show, remember its the people who watch the shows that determine whether or not your show will be successful. If we turn our tv's off from your program then guess what HGTV will turn you off. HGTV needs the viewers for their shows to be successful. I am glad that Will, Kim and Todd are in the final three instead of Rob. Also HGTV needs to give Sparkle Josh a shopping show and show us when we are in the huge stores shopping how to actually think ahead and plan and not get so confused in the store, I think he will do well with something like that. And even though Kim is just a design enthusiast, she has a lot of potential. I have meet many people that has natural abilities to design and din't need any design degree to showcase their work. I feel that will has a true talent for design, but remember last year, David didn't do very well on his hosting ability either. But before his show aired they trained him on how to handle hosting, anyone can be trained to host with practice and time. I want the final 2 to be Will and Kim and may the best designer win, if these 2 are not in the final 2 and Todd is one of them then the viewers need to pull together and show HGTV a thing or two by everyone voting for either Kim or Will which one will be with Todd in the final. No VOTES for Todd.

Oh, Sparkle Josh...We missed you tonight. I can't wait to see you on your own show!! Don't worry--you will get one. With love from your southern neighbor in Louisiana.

For the greatest shows, bring back that charismatic Scott and Sparkle Josh! What a lineup!!!

Posted by Melody Waters – August 26, 2007 10:30 PM

"Sparkle" Josh what can we say? You were one of the best but yet you were ousted. Just remember, you have friends here who wanted you to win and back you. I loved your website. Keep up the good work for those of us who will miss you!

Posted by GrannyGirl – August 26, 2007 10:15 PM

I love sparkle Josh. I cried when he was eliminated. I watched the replay this afternoon and cried again. I have to say, sparkle is my favorite since the beginning. I would watch Josh loyally if he had won. Robb has just been eliminated. Thank goodness. He is one I would have never watched. Josh, your personality, warmth, genteel manner, support of your team mates, sparkle, humility, and talent won our hearts. Thank you.

Posted by Claudia – August 26, 2007 10:07 PM

Good Evening Everyone,

WOW!! I am so happy the judges for once realized that even Josh didn't make it, but Robb was the one who should have been eliminated a long time ago. He wasn't a team player and no respect for others and their abilities, creativity, and talent. He was upset and said that the judges were "fools" how dare him say that, it's like what Kim told him, he needs to "look at himself in the mirror". I hope this was an experience for him!

Posted by Mel – August 26, 2007 10:05 PM

I'm so glad to see that jerk kicked off! If we could buy Robb for what he is worth and sell him for what he THINKS he is worth, we could zero out our national debt!!!! Adios Robb, if you had become the Design Star I would not have watched your show!!

Posted by Miss Scarlett – August 26, 2007 10:03 PM

Hello fellow Design Star watchers,

I'm currently watching the show right now, and honestly, Josh should have stayed one more round, and Robb should have been the one to "LEAVE". He is not a great team member, he is very SELLFISH and does not know how to work together and respect his fellow competitors. He should be more humble and realize that he has made it this far and thus not humiliate and treat others as if he was the ONLY ONE who knew how to "design". I hope the judges realize that, and if he were to get his own desgin show, ratings will go down because no one wants to see an obnoxious person who probably wouldn't respect the TV production and the team.

Posted by Mel – August 26, 2007 9:41 PM

At the beginning of the competition I though Adrianna had the biggest chance of winning because of all the talents she was bringing with her. It was sad that she didn't get to continue. Josh has the most TV personality and I thought his designs were fabulous. He really "Sparkled". Robb is just obnoxious and there are already enough obnoxious people in the world. Please don't make us watch them on TV. I'm watching this weeks version and he is still being obnoxious (Obviously I can't use the word enough). I am interested in seeing how this goes because the only one left with any talent is Will. He also works well with anyone.

Posted by Robbin Miller – August 26, 2007 9:38 PM

Robb presents the worst in human relations and communication skills. He may have some (not too obvious) design skills and his leadership skills are most closely related to Genghis Khan. Whatever he may design as a Design Star will always be tainted by his egotism and disregard for others, therefore I for one ( and for the rest of my family) would not include his Design Star program in my viewing list. To follow David , who all of America has enjoyed so much, by a person like Robb, would be a travesty. I have enjoyed so much all the other of the five finalists and we'll miss Josh. Any one of the other three finalists would make a fine Design Star. Thanks for listening.l

I like so many others was disappointed to see "Sparkle" leave the show. However, I understood why the judges chose the way they did. Josh seems to have more of a bent for interior design, it shows through his fabulous taste in shopping and color schemes. I think that HGTV would benefit by giving Josh his own decor show, so he could give all of us his tips and ideas for everyday spaces that he showed on the design show. In my opinion, decorating is just as important as designing a space. Keep the Sparkle Josh cause I think you will be back with all your sparkle style.

Posted by Debi Rob – August 26, 2007 9:25 PM

All I can say is Josh when I first saw you arrive at the penthouse I knew you were going to be the next Design Star. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was when I found out your show as canceled. You have a godly spirit and a god given talent. I became an instant fan from the beginning. Josh I know you will appear again somehow somewhere and you will "sparkle" in everything you do.

It seems the show has lost its.. Sparkle.. to me but i am a die hard fan of hgtv . ..... I do know i miss Josh . For what its worth im not watching it if robb Gets it for sure ..... Hugs and best wishes Josh ,,,We love ya ...Paula

We watched last season religiously, and thought of it as one of our favorite reality shows (which is saying a lot since we largely hate realtity shows. So You Think You Can Dance being number 1; the Grease auditions, and Project Runway season 1 and 2 up there as well). This season of Design Star overall is a huge disappointment and seems to have been produced by someone entirely different. Of those left, I wouldn't have the slightest interest in having any of them in my house to suggest anything, and certainly don't see any hosting a show. Josh was the one "sparkling star", and with him gone, so are we.

Posted by Randy/Ben – August 26, 2007 8:01 PM

For what it is worth HGTV. Please give Josh a show and let him come help me "sparkle" my dining room.

Posted by Leighb – August 26, 2007 7:37 PM

I do declare if I hear the judges say one more time that the contestants have to stand out individually - I will scream.

How about more individual challenges and only one elimination per week?

It is great to hear from sparkle Josh - definitely a big favorite of mine. Can't wait to see him again on TV - he will be great whatever he does.

I also enjoyed Todd's comments but do see it as an indication that he will be in the final two.

Todd you are incredibly talented with an unparalelled vision but please understand that I watch HGTV for inspiration on my own place. I like your extreme style and would love to see you with your own show - but it would be a waste of your talent if you had to go mainstream.

Will, Kim and Robb are all great designers. It will be entertaining to watch tonight. I don't care for Robb's annoying attitude, worry that Kim will fall short because she is a team player and hope that Will will make the cut tonight - so let the games begin!

...and for next year HGTV - please listen to your viewers input. I watch HGTV on a regular basis but must say this seasons Design Star is too much - please bring back lots of individual challenges, keep the 99 cent store episode but change everything else - we want to see our favs design for real life!

A very disappointed (put some style and class back into the show) but at this point still clearly entertained long time fan of HGTV.

P.S. I would love to get a chance to do a 99 cent store room - the fun - the creativity!

Posted by Roswitha – August 26, 2007 6:47 PM

I was so sad to see Josh go, and to be honest I feel like there really isn't anyone left that has the talent that he has. The judges keep talking about the "horrible" room he created from the 99cent store and my whole family felt he did a marvelous job!!I just loved it, He and Will could have their own show together their working chemistry blends so well and it would be a smash hit! One other thing I HAVE to say, Rob has stabbed everyone in the back and been such a blamer, I have not liked any of his designs and I don't understand where the judges come from I have made my own judgment if they choose him over some of the wonderful talent that I have seen the door slammed shut on I will not watch HGTV ever again, I feel that strongly against the attitude and behavior Rob has shown throughout this show.
Josh, as for you, you just continue to shine and may God bless you, your time will come!

Posted by Rita – August 26, 2007 6:27 PM

I just re-watched all of the Design Star shows up to now and I find Vern's comment about Josh's 99 cent design being bad and that was his reason that Josh should be let go! Did Vern just forget that Josh won the challenge for his dining room...which WAS designed in a real person's home - a design that EVERY judge LOVED...not to mention the home owners? And to have VERN point out just how bad Josh's 99 cent room was did NOT give credit to all that Josh did during the wedding reception room - the bride mentioned how much she LOVED the feather boas on the chairs...well, look at the footage closely and you'll see it was JOSH who wrapped the chairs with the feather boa's! (remember when Kim asked Josh to help with setting up the tables and Josh mentioned to her that Robb had asked him to decorate the chairs with the boa's!) And now, tonight's flamboyant-styled Wayne Newton's kitchen - we'll just see how much Josh's flamboyant-able designs will be missed by the four that is left! Oh, this is going to be interesting! I agree with all who have said - HGTV has really snuffed out the true Design Star. But, all of us know who love Josh's design style...Josh's star is still shining because he remained true to who is really is - with or without a TV show!

Posted by Artzgurl – August 26, 2007 6:24 PM

I agree with all of you. I can't believe Josh was eliminated! I don't like ANY of the remaining contestants and wouldn't watch any of their shows. ESPECIALLY if Rob or Todd wins. I think both of them are arrogant and talentless. I don't even want to watch the rest of the competition! I thought Sparkle Josh and Scott were the two best choices of all of them.

Posted by Brittni – August 26, 2007 6:15 PM

Hi, Design Star Fans,
I just have to voice my dissapointment in this season. I think eliminating two people each week makes the show feel rushed, like they just want to get it over with. I am also dissippointed in so many group projects. I don't feel like I have a feel for any of the desigers style. Or that I have gotten to know them well enough to really care who wins. This has been a real let down.
What designer came up this bad plan and needs to be canceled?

Posted by twoods – August 26, 2007 6:12 PM

I agree with the bloggers that this season's design star feels like it's being rushed. Too many double eliminations! Also, I'm hoping Robb goes home...or plays nice ... this is not survivor.

Posted by star gazer – August 26, 2007 6:10 PM

I too was stunned by the judges choice of canceling Josh's show. What has happened to these judges who chose David and Alice as the final two? Have they lost their minds or just their taste?

I'm a bit concerned that it will come down to Todd and Robb as the final two. Honestly, I wouldn't watch either one of them because Robb's treatment of the others has been horrible. His nasty remarks are unacceptable and eliminate his talent (he is talented in a trick my ride kind of way). Todd has made many unkind comments that take away from his talent as well. Robb should feel ashamed of the way he has treated Will. And Todd isn't much better. These 2 kids can't play or work well with others.

I'll be watching the rest of the series because a great deal can still happen. If Todd or Robb are reading these blogs, maybe they will think about what they are reading and do something to improve their images. Todd's couch sruffing room blew me away because it was so artistic and way outside of the box. Robb's Vegas wedding was what the couple wanted but I think he would have done better with more time.

The only good part of this whole mess of a series is that we get the final word on who gets their own show. So the final four are under great pressure especially this week.

Posted by Sally – August 26, 2007 5:58 PM

I think Todd probably made it to the final two - probably against Will. That is my guess as to why he wrote in - in an attempt to clean up his image as a high-fiving, eye-ball rolling, David-imitating overgrown kid. Don't fall for it.

Posted by Cheryl – August 26, 2007 4:59 PM

Well, I wonder what fiasco they have in store for us tonight!?! I have written HGTV Customer Service to complain loudly, but they don't answer. I have toyed with the idea of not even watching it, but now I have to find out what happens next so I can continue blogging. I am giving them the rest of the season to straighten things out with Sparkle Josh, how about all of you? Then HGTV if off my list of stations....too bad...over the years I have loved this network

Posted by ann – August 26, 2007 4:27 PM

I think most of you know this already, but (just in case) Todd is playing everyone like a fiddle! With his blog entry (positive comments about the most beloved designer, Josh), he knows it's basically a popularity contest between the final two (I do think he'll make the final).

I'm watching past episodes today, and I have a question: WHAT did Robb do in the first episode? Besides rolling his eyes and making negative comments about 'Organic Josh', he did next to nothing. He was very lucky not to be the first one to leave. I think we all know he would never beat any of the remaining designers in a one-on-one vote by viewers.

Todd does have the dynamic? personality I guess they want and need for a television show, but I can't help but think about his derogatory comments about other designers and his egotism. (If you're wondering about the comments, just watch the DS marathon airing today).

One last thought: Is each week's choice(s) for cancellation a well thought out collaboration of the three judges, or does Vern get his way regardless of the others' input? ;-)

Posted by clint – August 26, 2007 4:02 PM

I just wanted to give Josh big hug. He is just too sweet. This leaves me with Kim as my favorite designer. Both she and Josh have the class it takes to work well with and respect people. I am sure Will can do this as well, but you and Kim are my favorites.

I hope everything is well with you.

Big Hugs!!!!!

Hi Again Super Fans: Great to hear from SPARKLE JOSH; you are a kind and classy person and as all have said quite enjoyable to watch on tv! I just finished watching the first episode when Sparkle Josh and Will joined talents to create a gorgeous space and I agree it would be FANTASTIC to pair Sparkle Josh and Will. I hope the HGTV top brass will respect the comments of their network's super fans and consider this great idea! As it stands now, Will is the most consistently talented designer and I would bet if he won he would go for the idea of working with Sparkle Josh. Tonight should be interesting...I am hoping that Kim will stand up to Robb and I am confident that Will can show all of the judges, superfans and America that great design is not soley about far-out artistry and concepts (Todd) but about liveable, creative use of color and space.

Posted by Linda Joy – August 26, 2007 3:43 PM

That was so cool of Josh to log onto the Blog. I was SOOOOOOOOOO stoked when they announced that Design Star was coming back but I have to say I am so disappointed so far. Not in the designers but in the challenges. We are at the final 4 and have had only ONE individual challenge. What's up with that? And all of these double eliminations, what's the deal there? It was obviously popular enough to bring back for another season, they didn't think to extend the time. I mean, I could have done without the 1st episode when they interviewed the designers. They could have used that week for another individual challenge. I just feel like the best talent may not be reflected in this final four because we got here in a matter of 4 short episodes and only one showcase of individual work. Is anyone else feeling a little rushed?

Posted by Myra – August 26, 2007 3:41 PM

I wanted to write a comment regarding Scott's departure. Scott unfortunately you were eliminated much too early. Your boards of your work at the beginning of the show clearly showed how much talent you have. The challenges were such that for whatever reason you did not shine as brightly as I know you could have. I hope for you wonderful happenings in your future...I was sure hoping that you and sparkle Josh would be the last two designers that would battle it out. Take care of yourself, Dawn.

Posted by Dawn – August 26, 2007 3:26 PM

Having been a big fan of the first design star, I was looking forward to the new version. WOW, what a let down. The classlessness of Rob & Todd. I liked Kim until it became evident that she was going to hang in by hanging on to the coat tails of the team she considered to be the real contenders. I think Will has alot more natural talent than Rob or Kim. I am thru with this show, what happened did you just go out and find a group of actors (I know I have seen Rob somewhere before) Now that it has narrowed down, I am even more dissappointed and I won't be back. I thought that the two finalists last year were both talented designers with David definitely out front. But, here we are the would be design star show winners are all losers. And what is it with the judges looking more for persona that design talent. There is so much back biting and stragey to knock each other's team out that it is disgusting. Vern is the only judge with real perspective on the design part of selecting winners and losers. Too bad guys, if either Todd or Rob win I sure won't be watching that show.
I not only watch Monday nites with David I watch every time during the week his show is on.
We talk about this at work (I got all the ladies watching last year) what a real letdown. Well, you all let this mess perpetuate itself into the mishap it is, so how about doing something for the audience and bury this one before it gets any worse.

Posted by Carol Hopkins – August 26, 2007 3:25 PM

I just want to say that sparkle Josh would make a wonderful Design Star....obviously for this round that will not be, however, I believe there is something wonderful in his future. Josh, you are an extremly talented young man and was so pulling for you throughout this competition. Take care of yourself and thank you for your classy exit....All the best to you. Dawn.

Posted by Dawn – August 26, 2007 3:19 PM

I was so bummed when Sparkle Josh got the boot because of a hill-billy wedding ! I just have no more interest in the show anymore unless of course Robb takes a nail somewhere painful ! He makes it difficult to watch with all of the crying ! Todd is the only one left with the individual confidence... I was so looking forward to watching the Sparkle show !! Boo-Hoo
When I build Girl Town - I will be looking for you!

Regarding Todd's comments. I think he is just looking for votes and is trying to come off as a nice guy.

Posted by Dale Gold – August 26, 2007 1:35 PM

I agree with what kdenning said below about Josh's response to the question "Who among your fellow contestants do you consider your biggest competition?" Josh seemed to be the only one who really took it to heart and thought it through, and definitely gave the answer that I most respected.

Posted by Barbara – August 26, 2007 1:34 PM

I haven't Blogged before but couldn't stand it had to get my 2 cents in...Rob is undoubtly very talented, although his wedding reception was a bit tacky, guess that suits Vegas. It's his "holyer than thou" attitude that gets me, his remark about the Brides wedding "not being her special day" for instance. Or not giving credit to the "peons" who did the heavy prep work for his wild reception. If he does win I don't think he would be a good "Host" prospect for his own show. I know HGTV and their advertisers would not want someone who allinated their viewers with his attitude. But if he is in the Genuis Designer catagory maybe he will be forgivin.....NOT!

Posted by Barbara – August 26, 2007 12:59 PM

I must agree with one of the other bloggers, I don't think the group challenges is showing the individual designers true potential. Design Star please drop the group challenges and continue with the individual show cases - it makes the show, to me, more interesting.

PS. Josh, I think you have a lot of potential. Good luck in your endeavors. Like they say, "As one door closes - another one opens".

By the way, Josh. I rewatched the end of the disasterous 4 th episode o f Design Star.

I had forgotton about the question that Vern ('The Sneer') asked each of the 'survivors': "Who among your fellow contestants do you consider your biggest competition? "

I don't know if you have second guessed yourself about not answering the question, but I was quite proud of you. You hesitated a long time and the emotions playing across your face were amazing, but then your eyes hardened and you said, "I don't know'.

I thought, 'Bravo'....Josh, you didn't allow yourself to be manipulated into playing that obnoxious game. Most people would have blurted out an answer even when it flew in the face of their principles. You did not. You're to be congradulated for not compromising yourself for the purposes of home entertainment.

Posted by kdenning – August 26, 2007 10:47 AM

I have been disappointed by the Design Star show this season. Last season we were given more of a chance to see what everyone could do. This time everything is moving too fast. Two elimitions a show is two too many.

I belive if the original format was followed, from the first season, there would be more interest and we could see what talents the contestants really have. This season I have no favorites nor am I interested in seeing who wins.

This season has me wondering if I want to see any future episodes. Please reconsider, of there is another Design Star Show, how to give the viewer more of an insight as to the individual talents.

Posted by Brenda – August 26, 2007 10:46 AM

I would also like to see a Sparkle Josh show on HGTV. I will be watching. Regardless of what happened on this show, Josh you will always be what I think of as a Design Star!

Posted by shannon – August 26, 2007 10:31 AM

"Sparkle" Josh, you were my favorite right from the start. I disagree that your individual room was cheap-looking. I mean, come on, it was stuff from the 99 cents store! You went for a Celebreteen look, and you nailed it. I actually thought that the cut-out paper plates that Kim stuck to her wall were a lot tackier. Your style of decorating is exactly my taste - not everything has to be "Asian" inspired and plain, and that's what the professionals who judge the show don't get. Who wants to see the same style in every room? I'm a decorator and not a teen, and I would love a real interpretation of that room you did. Actually, I've been going in that general direction with my "office" room in my home. And what's up with them saying you're a good shopper, but not a good designer? Where do they think the "stuff" comes from for a design. From shopping!!!! Anyway, sorry to see you voted off, it was a BIG mistake. I, like the others who wrote, would really love to see you on your own show. Good Luck to you.

Posted by Conni – August 26, 2007 6:05 AM

HGTV REALLY missed the boat this season. Josh was/is the only one who had any charisma to host a show that people would actually watch. I can only assume that there must be another reason why he was let go, because all of the designers left contribute nothing memorable, either in design or in personality/charisma.

Let's see who we have left:

An uninteresting hair stylist with no real design experience, an unlikable man with a really bad temper (Robb), a man with absolutely zero personality who will bore people to tears (Will) and a guy who has no real talent except thinking taking off his shirt will help him win and acting like a 20 year old surfer dude.

Not one of these people will attract any kind of audience. Let's hope HGTV can do much better next season.

Best of luck to you, Josh. You are a class act!

Posted by Geasuy – August 26, 2007 2:15 AM

Josh, hope to see you hosting your own show one day soon. I always knew you had a flair for decorating and design but you also have that magnetic personality for winning people's hearts too. You are a true gentleman. (I'm from your hometown and have known you and your family for a long time. We are so disappointed that you will not be on the next few shows but can't wait to see you on the last one. Everyone in little ol' G'town is very proud of you!
Just one of your many fans who love you.

it amazes me that so many folks are on the same wave length. i really felt that sparkle josh just has too much class for this show. major dissapointment. realy do agree that a blend of will and sparkle josh would so cover all basis. how cool would that be???

Posted by colleen – August 26, 2007 1:14 AM

Since Todd has added a post to this blog, I'm guessing he's made it to the final two (The shows were filmed in advance, and the judges do seem determined to force him on us.). Perhaps he's making an effort to seem nicer because he wants our votes later.

Posted by kayth – August 26, 2007 12:39 AM

It's nice that Josh wrote in after he was eliminated, because we miss him soooo much!! It's also nice to hear from Todd, but...Todd, dude, you're still a contestant, is that fair? Or does this mean it's OK because it's taped and you're leaving tomorrow night? To make it fair I think Sparkle should come back! (Hey Todd, very cool and ultra creative 99 cent room!)

Posted by Eileen – August 26, 2007 12:00 AM

Ok, Im going to just lay it out there...
Design? Star is a far cry from what true Interior Design really is. I do understand there are many facets of life that involve design, but this show is supposed to be about Interior Design. Come on HGTV, do a better job in putting together a more y of contestants, etc. before throwing something on the air which in my opinion is an insult to the Interior Design profession and its professionals. Don't get me wrong, some of the past and current contestants do have talent; but come on, are they really Interior Designers as HGTV has advertised them to be???? If HGTV would put together a show to showcase true Interior Design with qualified, licensed Interior Designers, this would showcase to the television viewing audience what it really takes to be a true Design Star!

Posted by Alan – August 25, 2007 11:35 PM

Sparkle Josh is the ONLY one of the contestants that I would be interested in watching. He has a real talent and personality worth watching. HGTV you really missed it this time.

Posted by Pat Prater – August 25, 2007 10:33 PM

First of all let me say. Josh,I am devistated that you are no longer on the show. But,they say when one door closes another one opens.I originally said I would not continue to watch, but after reading your coments on the blog and my space I'll be watching until the end. Looking forward to everyone returning. I wanted to chime in on a comment Shawna mentioned about the double elimination and the lack of individual competions. It seems as though the format of the show changed this year and not in a good way. It left very little room for each designer to show what they could really do.

Posted by ToniZ – August 25, 2007 10:27 PM

What a gentleman Josh is. I watched last Sunday's episode again and noticed how he nods affirmatively and smiles even in the most stressful situations. He has such a calm exterior -- it's just amazing because you know a million thoughts are going through his head. I think I see what he describes as that "true, real, God-given place that I hold safely inside myself, and my greatest desire is to let others see that light in a positive, graceful, and Godly presentation." It's a rare person who can remain true to himself in a situation like that.

It's me again HGTV. I thought I would log on and get a wonderful surprise that you had reinstated Josh. Come on HGTV we are the ones who have to watch the show. I turned you off last night because I am so disappointed with you. When it comes time for the viewers to vote I sure hope we can write Josh in.

Posted by edna wilson – August 25, 2007 8:42 PM

Josh, I so hope and pray to God that you will have a Sparkle Josh show on HGTV. I think you have an awesome God given gift to see that beauty in life and you have the desire to share that gift with others. And it tore my heart to see you and Will there, knowing one of you would be leaving the show. If not a Sparkle Josh show, maybe an Ebony and Ivory show with Will? :)

Posted by Suzi Q – August 25, 2007 8:15 PM

Josh, I miss you already! In my opinion, the design "challenges" are not comparable to real life situations. The wedding was proof that you cannot BUY good taste! I understand there is probably a "test" behind each challenge but I think it could be done differently. I, personally, wanted to see more "individual" designs and this is where you would absolutely SPARKLE! I'm having a hard time believing that ROB is still on the show. He is rude, belligerent, obnoxious and not sparkly. There is no way the producer/crew will be able to get along with him...if he wins. Now, my bet is on Todd because he is my favorite tool. Best wishes to you and yours. I will look for you on another show...maybe OPRAH!!

Posted by Ricardo – August 25, 2007 7:43 PM

Josh, you were one of the most tactful and talented of the designers. I could not believe that you were eliminated. A little "sparkle" goes a long way and we all need a little of that "sparkle" in our lives. God bless you and I know that you will do well. I can't imagine what the judges were thnking by eliminating you. The two who should go should be Todd and Robb, the egotists. If either of them win the contest, I won't watch their show. The personality quality this year did not live up to the contestants from last year. You, Christina, Kim and Will all have that quality. Maybe I'm missing something- I'm 74 years old so maybe my standards of how people should behave are higher than the judges. Keep up the good work!

Posted by Evelyn EASLEY – August 25, 2007 7:37 PM

Wish Rob was gone. He is so cocky and I thought his design was tacky. I also thought he was totally unfair to Will. It looked as tho will did more work than Rob. His design last week was stupid. It looked like a swedish cross or something. I truly miss Sparkle Josh. Down with Rob!!!!

If Rob is the new design star I will not watch. He is too annoying and mean. Hiding the lights at the 99 cent store was very childish and also unsportsmanlike.

Josh,
You are the true Design Star! Wishing you all the best from the Midwest!!! Love & Blessings to you from your fans in Chicago!!!

Sparkle Josh is my favorite and it broke my heart when he was let go from the team. I think he is extraordinarily talented and HGTV should give him his own feature, because none of their regular designers are any thing like him. He stands out because his designs are classy, fun and sparkly! In my book, Sparkle Josh is the real winner! (And we live close to each other. Hope I get to meet him some day!).

Posted by Janie West – August 25, 2007 5:48 PM

Josh- I have to agree with so many of the others' comments. HGTV needs a Sparkle Josh show! Thanks for writing and sharing your thoughts. Your grace and eloquence in the face of disappointment are as inspiring as your talent and originality.

Posted by MC – August 25, 2007 5:35 PM

I will watch the next show but it will be a very unsparkely show...I was so dissappointed to see my fellow Tennesseean leave the show. I don't know how the judges could have let you go. I think the design was stupid and the designer is just too confrontational and if he is chosen as the new design star will not watch his show. Josh, you are one of a kind; keep up the good work. I watch David's show every week and if the judges hadn't been so stupid I would have enoyed watching a Josh show too...

Posted by Judi – August 25, 2007 2:28 PM

All I can say is HGTV's judges just "shot the show in the foot". Josh Johnson was the superior talent on the show and he is now history. Josh will go on to great things. HGTV made a grave mistake, but Josh will SHINE ON.

Posted by Char – August 25, 2007 1:01 PM

The only way now that Design Star can redeem this disaster is to actually wind up with the final two being Kim and Will. Then it would actually be a competition of design vs design and not "we hate Robb/Todd" vs design. That would truly NOT be a winning choice - and the winner would be only the winner by default. Good luck, Josh in whatever you do - you are already a winner in our book.

Posted by jaykay – August 25, 2007 12:28 PM

Josh, you are truly a class act. There is something about you that is just magical! Your smile lights up the room, and seems to come from deep inside - it's hard to describe what a good feeling comes from your presence! How lucky are the people who know you! HGTV really missed the boat by letting you go, but in a way did you a real favor. Now you know how many people you have touched with your warmth and grace, and hopefully another network will catch on and bring you back to us! You deserve the best of everything, you showed true grace in face of the atmosphere created by a couple of immature bozos, never lost your temper, just kept your cool. You looked exhausted at the last episode, however, as they would wear any decent person down. I know that with all of this response we will be seeing you again!!

To SMJ and everyone...Hi! I promise, promise, promise I have posted every, single post up to this moment! All I can say is remember...if you write under the "Episode 4" blog, that is where your comment will post; if you write under the "Josh has heard your cries" blog, that is where your comment will post, etc... Other than that, there are some comments that are rejected because of incorrectly entering the "secret code at the end of their post." There is nothing I can do about that.

I love all of your comments! I post them as often and as quickly as I can! But, alas, sometimes I HAVE to sleep! :o) And, sometimes I HAVE to go to my REAL job! :o) And, sometimes I HAVE to get off of the computer and be a mommy! :o) So...please be patient with me! I will get to you, I PROMISE!!!

Love you, you Super Fabulous Fans! Yea! Tomorrow is SUNDAY!!! lwatkins

Well, I thought Sparkle Josh was great, but chose Todd because I think HGTV will choose him. Will is really the best, but Will you must stop looking so aggravated on the show even though Josh is so aggravating. Your designs are right on. You have class and style. You should win it, but I think you're too good for them. They probably want high energy Todd. Kim, what can I say? You are clever, but that tiling business was the pits. You do have some star quality. Good luck to everyone.

Posted by Pat – August 25, 2007 5:34 AM

Is this a pattern or what -- is discrimination alive and well in America? So what is it that we value in a new design star? If you followed food network's latest "star" competition, it's all about being obnoxious -- let's see how often we can diss our fellow competitors and be all about "me me me". For this year's design star, obnoxious also seems to be synonymous with "star" -- are they really expecting high ratings on some future TV show from someone who is so openly disrespectful of his co-contestants? Oh excuse me, guess I don't follow shows like american idol and the worship of those who are openly and avidly destructive of the competition. True leaders give everyone on their team the opportunity to shine.

Last season's design star was special in part because both of the finalists were truly respectful of their fellow finalists as well as being gifted designers. Let's hope that this season's choices will also be people that we would like to know and work with.

Josh-

I will definately miss you on design star! You and Will have been my favorites since the beginning of the show.

Last week, when I had to watch the two of you stand there on the chopping block, I thought I was going to die. I have not cried that hard for a long time.

Even while you both stood there, you both still smiled and where so humble and kind to each other. You both said such touching things to each other.

It really hurt to see two people who had become great friends, who where the best designers in the competition, who where the most genuine and true, standing there, while more undeserving jerks where sitting in the green room safe from elimination.

I know there will be something great out there for you because the whole world saw what a wonderful personality you have and what amazing talent that you have!

Let us know what channel, what day and what time to watch your new show! I say this, because I know you will have one -- soon and I know we will all want to watch every second of it!

Also, if Will gets eliminated too (God-- let's hope not)please consider calling him on the phone and, together, the two of you could pitch a fantastic show, where the two of you could codesign together. That would be great!

I know that a ton of people would watch a show that had you and Will as codesigners. I have read that from many people on here. Tons of people said that the two of you would have a great show together.

You are both really talented at design, have great smiles, have warm personalities, and the friendship the two of you built really touched all of our hearts!

Thanks for writing in to us! It really was nice of you to show us your appreciation. But, I would never have expected less from someone who has a ton of class and is already a star in so many people's eyes!

We love you! Keep on sparkling!

Oh, it does not hurt that you are georgeous either!

LISTEN UP FANS!

Did all of you notice that Todd is talking to us on this blog? Scroll down and read his comments. His comments were really nice.

Todd, thanks for talking to us. Great to hear your thoughts also of behind the scenes of how you and the other designers feel about each other. I admire the things you had to say about your competitors. You said it with class and like a gentlemen also. Good luck to you with your future. You have a very artistic talent. I've viewed your website and you are quite the artist and visionary. Best Wishes!

HGTV bloggers....check out what he said. It's exciting that 2 of these designers are responding to our comments. Wow...somebody is paying attention to us! I just wish the producers and judges would.

Judges, shame on you!

Like everyone else, I couldn't believe Josh was voted off. This was not his design, but he worked hard to make it a success, using his quick wit and talent to assist his 'teammates'. Josh contributed just as much as any of the other designers to this challege, where he differed from most was by remaining positive and excelling in his contribution.

Josh has a great personality, quick wit, sincerity, and undeniable talent. Exactly the kind of person television viewers want in their home every week.

As far as Christine is concerned, I didn't care for her personality especially, but it was apparent the couple didn't like her from the start, she never had a chance.

Come on, HGTV, be FAIR. Bring these two designers back and get back to individual challenges.

Posted by Beverly Boone – August 25, 2007 12:25 AM

I did not read all of this blog but from what I did read I see others are feeling the same as me. I have never before been so ticked at a tv show that I would get up out of bed to write how irritated I am. I loved the first season and waited patiently for season 2. I fell in love with the cast and of course have my favorites (Sparkle Josh, Will and Christina). I think the season started great until we got into the double eliminations. I want to see the designs these contestants come up with and I feel very short changed and not to mention I think it is completely unfair to the contestants. The final straw for me was to eliminate Josh on absolutely no basis. His presentation was not the worst, he did a fantastic job making the tables look extraordinary (in an aweful design to begin with) and he by far has more talent than just shopping! By the way I would love to go shopping with him any day! I cannot believe there were 2 eliminations and if this keeps up I cannot see watching another season. Josh should be put back on the show and be judged for his abilities and the producers need to slow down the pace and give the viewers what we want to see....MORE DESIGN CHALLENGES!!!!! Josh if you do read this I love your style and would love to work with you on my home. I am sure you will be plenty busy and I wish I could have seen more designs in the show from you. Take care and I know you are going to be a huge success.

Posted by Shawnna – August 25, 2007 12:24 AM

You have already won Josh... far more than the final Design Star contestant will. This show is simply not big enough for you! I'm looking forward to hearing about the smart network that scoops you up (if they haven't already) with a plan to bring us your uplifting talent and gentle class on a regular basis. We'll see you soon...! :)

Hi Josh! I just had to say that we will miss you on HGTV Design Star. I watched this season's Design Star, from the beginning. When we saw you, during your initial interview, your presentation and charisma made us take notice. You are not only a good designer, but a good person, a team-player, morale booster, and a classic Southern Gentleman! We also loved your bedroom you did with Will, and the dining room was fabulous!!! I admire your eye for style and knowing how to shop and bring design elements together--very important skills. We also noticed how you "pitched-in" to help with the wedding reception design, despite some problems with the designer's concept. The judges, in my opinion, sent the wrong person home. It has been difficult to view your website, because I'm obviously not the only person who feels the same way! Courtesy, warmth, a "caring-and-sharing" attitude, and a sense of humor are just as important as the design concept and implementation of the design. I'm studying to be a better designer and I would hope to reflect some of the qualities that I admire in you. Good Luck to you and your career, Josh! Remember that real stars "sparkle"!

Posted by Shirley – August 24, 2007 11:42 PM

Ah, Josh, still cannot believe HGTV judges and producers let you go - they made a huge blunder. I cannot think of any contestant on any reality show who has garnered as much support, love and admiration than you have done. You'll have your own show somewhere soon, but man, I'm still furious that you're not going to be the next
Design Star. Your charming wit, charismatic personality, and integrity just comes shining through in all you do. It goes without saying how multitalented you as well. Will watch the reunion episode, since you have said you'll be there, but this heretofore loyal HGTV viewer is staging her own little boycott.

Posted by Joy in TN – August 24, 2007 11:25 PM

Josh made Design Start worth watching. He has a wonderful personality and is very talented. With him gone, its not the same. I was sad to see Scott leave also. It seems that the good designers are being voted off. I simply cannot fathom what the judges are thinking this year. The only talented 'interior designer' left on the show is Will (Todd is talented but I do not consider him to be a great interior designer). If he is voted off I would not be interested in watching mediocre or fabulous but unpractical design.

Posted by shamu – August 24, 2007 10:27 PM

I must say that Sparkle Josh was the only designer in this season's show who impressed me with his designs from the start. I remember thinking when they showed his design board during the audition, that his work looked unique, unlike anything I've ever seen before, and yet so very tasteful. I would definitely want him to design a space for me as I would find it amazingly inspiring and aesthetically pleasing. I cannot remember the last time any designer's work made such a strong impression on me. Therefore it is truly sad that we won't be able to see his work anymore on the show. I don't think we ever really got to see his work at its best, as the challenges so far have been terrible, and simply did not allow individuals to shine. Josh, I'm truly saddened to see you leave.
I also have to say that I cannot stand Robb's attitude. I don't think he is a particularly clever designer. As someone else pointed out, he comes across as insecure, disrespectful, crude and even racist. If I were Todd I would distance myself from him a bit, and do some growing up in the meantime as well. I believe Todd does have a unique and possibly interesting design perspective.

Posted by Dianne – August 24, 2007 9:56 PM

I was so sorry to see Josh be eliminated. I thought that the table settings that he designed gave that tacky design some class. Do the judges take into consideration who does what in these group designs--they seemed to have no idea about it. Will worked hard in this last test. He put down all the flooring, set up the tables and was the only one to comment about the eyesores at the enterance to the wedding reception. He was the person who drew Robb's attention to the problem and was the only one who put up the curtains around the red, blue and yellow bricks. Nastiness is never attractive and Robb just about personifies it. He is unsportsmanlike --his comments in the 99cent store about hiding items and taking all the lights even though he didn't need them were stomach turning. His designs are brash and tastless. I would hope that the judges are able to see how everyone performs during next Sunday's show--and not just the finished product.

Sparkle Josh our whole girls group loves you ;) This whole group design thing is making us sick - where is the "real" competition we saw last year??? Don't even get us started on that Robb - like tacky tacky & rude.

Josh you are the only designer whose show I would really watch after this fiasco is over. Please HGTV give us back the Sparkle.

Our little gals group is 40,000 viewers - seriously. We want Josh! We want Josh!!!

Yes, we are from Texas! GO JOSH GO!!!!!!

Can't understand why people don't like Robb, I think he has guts to speak out like he does. He also Ramrods the others into doing what ever has to be done. His ideas in designing are great. I am on his side, I believe he has a better chance that the others, yet Todd is up their with him. I am rooting for both of these guys.

Posted by Rudy – August 24, 2007 7:15 PM

Whats wrong with the judges? How could they even decided who would leave after the wedding room was done? They had no concept what went on or who did what in that creation. And didn't you think it was strange the Josh didn't get any credit for the place setting, (the one element that brought a sense of grace and class to the design.) And it was very unfair that Christine be sent home for not giving them the design they wanted. It was clear to see, that before the couple left, she was unsure as to what they really wanted. She asked them before leaving the studio, what they really wanted in a reception "together", to which the man, was kinda rude to her. The designers didn't even get a one on one with the clients. This was a badly thought out challenge. I would like to see the judges, judge work, without knowing whose work they are judging. Of course this would have to done early on, as after a few times, you start to see peoples styles. Two people left this week, without getting a fair chance. It's nice that the people from the show read here, but I hope the judges do to, (or are they to BIG and important for that these days). Last seasons constistants had to work harder, and got to showcase themselves much more that this group. I'm sorry Josh, but I just don't think I can watch anymore. They shouldn't have had a second season if they couldn't do it with the same format as the first season. Maybe they should have a guest judge now and then, just for the fresh oppinions.

I just know there will be good things and tremendous success in store for you as you go forward in your career and life. It is so uplifting to me, as a real fan of yours, to know that you got our messages loud and clear. I will continue to watch the show, along with you, but with much less enthusiasm after your exit. All of your contributions to the designs were classy and elegant with the limited materials you were given to work with. Your personality along with your designs "sparkle" so don't ever be untrue to yourself for any reason or anyone!! Thanks again for taking the time to write to all of your fans. As I've already said, but I'll say it again - PURE CLASS ALL THE WAY!!!!

It was very sad to see "Sparkles" go, yet just as sad to watch others leave as well. Josh is soo funny and very genuine in character and will be missed dearly...not sure if TV will cast him away entirely though.
Everyone would be be floored at how entertaining/talented and funny each one of the contestants really is, too bad its not a two hour show and that we sometimes in our most admirable moments end up on the editing floor.
We never really got to listen and watch what "Lisa" was all about or observe her in her true elegant design form. Yet she too was a very cool cat and would have shined very bright had she had the chance to be in her design element and not part of a group design.
Becoming immediate natural friends with everyone was a blast and we always will be. We kept saying to everyone that when any of us goes they will be missed,we will obviously stay in touch and will forever be enlightened by each others design style. Even if "Sparkles" design style lacked purple half pipes in your kitchen and wave machines in your living room wouldn't you just still love the guy and feel as if he is family?

We miss you Josh...we miss you Lisa, Scott etc...see you soon on the leading edge of creating good design.
Again its too bad we don't get to spend more time with the other contestants, everyone was always floored and shocked by the thought of any one leaving but it's ruthless in competitions.
Until next time designers...lay off Robb, he really isn't that much of a jerk, just really annoying... Oh, but he has solid design skills. Just kidding Robb.
Oh yeah, not a big deal folks..as far as not having a shirt on..it's hot in Vegas and Robb kept spilling energy drinks on my shirts getting into the vans in the mornings.

See you soon "Sparkles"...somewhere...

This is the first time I have ever entered a comment on a blog, however I just couldn't keep my thoughts to myself.

Last year's show was definately better. What were Martha, Vern and Cynthia(David)thinking when they picked some of these people? Take the first contestant who's show was cancelled, she was disgusting and her designs were positively apocolyptic, what were they thinking putting her on the show in the first place. Then there was Naraja(sp?), have mercy people, any individual who is willing to admit on national TV that she wants to win so bad that she will step on everyone to get it is dispicable. Does this scream MAJOR CHARACTER FLAW to anyone else out there. The biggest eyesore on the entire show is Robb. What a JERK. He is the nastiest, meanest individual in the competition. His whole demeanor makes it painful to watch the show, he should have been deepsixed along with Naraja for poor taste and extremely bad character. No matter what, Scott, Josh and Josh all were better contestants than Robb and should have been kept. If Robb doesn't get booted off this week then my sisters and I have vowed not to watch any more episodes. One more thing, there sure aren't any David Bromstad's or Alice's in this competition.

Posted by Wendy – August 24, 2007 2:05 PM

As for ROBB?
Ungraced socially, I am surprised his barbed tongue has not yet cut his throat.

His unpleasant behavior is NOT something I care to watch nor hear.

Josh, you are a real gentlemen! I lived in Hendersonville for 6 years and chose you from the beginning. Unfortunately, I was out of town when the "wedding" show aired, so didn't get to see it. That is probably best as I surely would have been devastated. That is like losing a dear friend. What possibly could the judges be thinking? I doubt that I would watch a show of any of the remaining contestants and I do watch lots of HGTV. God Bless You as you continue your career and I know you will be rewarded for your attitude. I certainly hope that a miracle will happen and you get your own show. At any rate, you are the winner in my books!

Josh - one more little thing. I am also a designer and, after seeing you designs on the show and your website, I am completely blown away at how you can add shine and sparkle to a space without going over the top. The rooms are elegant and beautiful and so very tasteful. And as for your individual room - wonderful! I believe you are running a bit ahead of the times with the color scheme and what a truly creative way to follow the rules of the challenge without stealing designs from past designers. Thank you for your beautiful and inspiring spaces.

Sparkle Josh rules! I think you would have been the most entertaining host of them all. You just cracked me up with your sense of humor, and you had the greatest poise and presence as well. I hope this will help increase your success and your personal business too. The show is much duller without you. Lots of love.

Josh - I don't think anyone could have read your words without tearing up. Last week's episode has prompted me to write the first blogs in my life. It amazed me even more how so-called professionals could miss what America saw in about 2 seconds. No, not just the hair and the clothes and the designs, but the person. Living in these times America is hungry for kindness and class and elegance AND SPARKLE. America needs AND wants Josh. Thank you for your kind words to all of us. I will watch the show when you are on but I'm afraid I still can't watch until then. We miss you too much, it can't be helped. Good luck and God bless. Hope to see you on my tv in your own show very soon. There must be a smart network out there somewhere.

Oops! I forgot to mention in previous blogs -- thank you to lwatkins for (1) NOT editing our blogs (otherwise, the Design Star producers never would have heard the TRUTH about what we think and how we feel), and (2) bringing our beloved Josh back to us! Let's hope and pray it's not a fleeting thing - once and future Sparkle!

Dear Josh...as if your loyal fanbase wasn't captivated enough with you...or, as if you hadn't already given the public enough reasons to completely enamoured with you...you go and give us all YET ANOTHER reason to realize how you touch lives. You have held your head high and demonstrated such gracious humility and CLASS in the face of rejection and you continue to SPARKLE with dignity and grace. Sometimes it's so easy to become bitter and resentful and react with hurt and anger and spite. But instead, you chose to recognize your blessings and gifts and be thankful for the experience. In my opinion, with that kind of gratitude, you will go far in your career and in your life and you will be HAPPY doing it! The public loves you because you radiate positivity that can only come from within and you inspire us all to sparkle whether it be from our outward design with rhinestones or from our inward design with self respect and integrity. Shine on, Sparkle Josh, and keep 'blinging' us your beauty! Blessings, Ena

Christina and sparkle Josh were the only 2 on this show with design talent. I do not believe the others have what it takes to host a design show that anyone will want to watch on a regular basis. HGTV really blew-it this time.

Mr. Johnson - Thank you so much for not hiding your SPARKLE "under a bushel!" That shine sure is contagious!

Josh - I've got tears in my eyes from what I read.
You are the sweetest most gracious person. I would really like to see you have your own show whether it be design, singing or modeling of which you exceed at all. I absolutely loved your music. I've got to say too that your pictures are hot. You're so handsome. I wish the very best at whatever you do.
Sincerely your fan for life.

Josh stood out "Sparkled" from the start and continues to do so! If he has a show on any network, I will not miss an episode. I can even imagine him doing a line of sparkly home decor, as well as clothes, belts and jewelry for men and women. I would definately be into his line of products!

JOSH JOHNSON! AMERICA’S ONCE AND FUTURE SPARKLE!! Wow. Not only do you possess immense talent for design (go to www.joshjohnson.net folks! You’ll be BLOWN AWAY by this boy’s ability to combine brilliant flash with elegance and class! – and not to mention the modeling and musical talents!), but you’re a writer, too! I must say, I consider myself a writer (okay, aspiring), and I am intensely impressed by, and somewhat jealous of, your ability to put your feelings into such beautiful prose that drew me in from the first word. What a gracious and well-put message to your fans. We thank you.

It’s been said before, and I’m sure it will be said again – many many times – your mom and dad should be proud, Mr. Johnson, for YOU are a class act. Your huge (already!) fan base has an undying message to you -- we want you to have your own show; we will watch your show faithfully; it will be a HUGE hit. We love you, Sparkle Josh!!

Sparkle Josh, It has been almost a week since that disastrous show and I still can't get it out of my mind. I am 70 years old and live in the same community as David Bromstad's parents. We all voted for David. You have just absolutely captivated the audience and HGTV has done a very bad thing in eleminating you. They are really extremely close to losing their loyal audience. Please let us all see and hear lots of you in the future. I think that you and Will should pair up with your own show....go to some other network if necessary! You are just great and were the life of the show...talented, polite, humorous, a fresh change of pace from the pompous and I could go on and on. Stay in the public eye. I wish you the brightest future possible. You could decorate for anyone!!!

Posted by ann quackenbush – August 24, 2007 9:54 AM

Josh, once again, shows us all what grace and class are all about. He is responsible for another thing I thought would never happen. He turned me into a blogger!

Posted by CMS – August 24, 2007 9:49 AM

Josh, you are a CLASS act! I'm going to be in Nashville in a couple of weeks, can I call on you??!!

Posted by Mary McPhillips – August 24, 2007 9:31 AM

Welcome back, Josh. Your comments are very gracious and heartfelt. It's some type of consolation that your participation at HGTV has been a boost to your career.

It's just a shame that the overall concept and execution of this 'contest' is such a botch.

Good luck with your future plans.

Dear Josh,
You have won the hearts and the respect of America by your obvious kindness to everyone, not to mention your God-given talent.
I looked at your website and was just blown away by the photo of the reception that you created.
NOW THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING RECEPTION!
You are a soft-spoken gentleman, with just the right touch of humor, that everyone would be happy to invite into their homes. It would be great if HGTV would create a home entertainment design series, featuring you, during each holiday season. I ALSO THINK THAT YOU WOULD BE IDEAL TO HAVE A SHOW WHERE YOU WOULD VISIT PEOPLE'S HOMES AND SHOW THEM HOW TO ADD A SPECIAL "TOUCH OF CLASS" TO THEIR HOMES, with a few changes. After all, what you did with the kitchen and bedroom designs was really admired by the judges! The viewers will be encouraging HGTV to use your talents in the future. You always displayed grace, even under pressure. I send you my kindest wishes.

That whole Vegas Wedding challenge was a travesty. Basing an elimination on two people with tacky taste. That kind of client can;t afford good design anyway so why should they have even been judging. What a low point for the show. Eliminating Josh Johnson was a disaster. He has the potential to raise HGTV's reach to new heights with a celebrity designer show and now some major network will pick him up if they are smart.

I thought from the beginning that a design show with Will (as the practical designer) and Josh (as the glamour designer) would be fantastic. Appeal to a large demographic. A new Odd Couple of design. I'd call it Southern Comfort.

Take stock of what this challenge should be about. This year is such a comedown from last year. The designers were much more talented and nicer people. David and Alice were fantastic. This year all the coverage goes to the nasty people like Neeraja and Robb (this isn't the Gerry Springer show) , and that infantile Todd who can't get over his 15 year old extreme sports fetish or taking off his shirt. David did that too in last year's show but he had talent and knew this was about design and not skate boarding and surfing metaphors. HGTV doesn't need another Eric Stroman who is an a-- who should spend more time showing how to tackle the over your head renovations instead of trying to be cute like a trained monkey.

Posted by Rhett – August 24, 2007 4:24 AM

Josh, I think Robb is a jack--- with garish style and taste is a matter of opinion. I wouldn't let him decorate my outside bathrooms. Thanks for a classy exit and the essence of a gentleman - something he knows nothing about. His slam against Wes just shows he actually fears his sense of style. We shall miss yours. TJ

My Dearest Josh... You have scaled the highest hurdle of them all, that of capturing the hearts of HGTV viewers... And THAT is what secures a loyal fan-base, folk who will hang with you no matter what... who will stay tuned-in even when a design turns out not so stellar... After all, even designers have their off-days, and people who truly 'like' someone, forgive easily, as none of us can achieve perfection every time at bat... You can't buy loyalty like that, Josh... It is the 'pearl-beyond-price'...

I hope HGTV, or some other network, has the wisdom to recognize what you have achieved, above and beyond all the other contestants on the show, and give you the 'shot' you so richly deserve... It would be good for them, good for you, and good for us... a win/win/win for everyone...

For what it's worth, your Celebuteen room was a total hit with my 13-year-old daughter and her friends... They all wanted that room for their own!!! Not so with the other rooms... They couldn't have cared less for those designs, but you were able to take a 'young girl's' girlishness and bridge the gap into 'budding young lady' by providing that dash of sophistication... My daughter and her friends just squealed when they saw your room on TV... Be proud of that room, Josh... You nailed what you set out to do, *vbs*

And, just in case you were wondering, I'd go shopping with you any day of the week! *lol*

I wish you every blessing Heaven and Earth have to offer, Josh... from everlasting to everlasting, {{{hugs hugs hugs}}}

OMG IWatkins you must've been dying!!!!!! You got to talk to Josh Johsnon on the phone--well I'll be darned you lucky girl you!! He is the coolest and classiest of all the design star contestants by far and I still can't get over the fact that they let him go...SO disappointed in HGTV!!! But Josh, I can no longer watch the remaining episodes b/c my heart has been broken by their bad decision and I feel this is my only way to protest.

At this point we all need to email the HGTV Viewer Services Dept. and let them know how we're feeling and tell them they need to give Josh a show if they want to keep their viewers happy! The link is http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/about_us/ext/0,1782,HGTV_3080_4964,00.html.

Josh!, it's so great to hear from you, but I still think your loss (to us) is a BIG MISTAKE by
Design Star and HGTV(I don't know how Vern voted, but he's one of the best and I might be mad at how he voted)... but I refuse to believe he might have voted against you...I'm still mad about it.

Anyway, God bless you and I hope we'll all get to see more of you soon! This year's test was too short and unreal and I feel that there was a lot more to see and you left me hungering for more. HGTV having "how to shop show" or etc, could only help some of us poor souls. I'd love to be escorted by someone with your sparkle and watching it all put together would be even better!

Posted by Barb – August 24, 2007 12:37 AM

Well dip me in rhinestones! Good for you Josh Johnson. With a positive outlook such as yours you will truly reach the stars. You have won far more than a TV show. You have won the honest admiration of people across this country.

Posted by Veneer Voodoo – August 24, 2007 12:00 AM

Josh,
You are still impressing me!! So refreshing for someone to show so much grace, humility, class, inner and outer beauty and God's qualities. Makes me even miss you more. I know I speak for alot of people that feel we've been cheated out of a wonderful and fabulous show that you would have created for your fans. But I still haven't lost hope that someday that will happen. Best Wishes Always for a great future. You really deserve much success because of the admirable character and amazing talent that God has given you. I pray God's richest blessings on you. Thanks so much for writing to all of us who love you! What another class thing to do and what you said....so respectful and such grace! You are a true GEM! You have such a inner glow to you!

Loving the Sparkle!

From A Sparkle Girl in Texas,
Cindy

Oh, jeepers! Aren't you the sweetest, most gracious boy EVER! Someone else may end up being the "HGTV Design Star", but your star will continue to shine much brighter. Hugs and best wishes for what will surely be a sparkly bright future.

Posted by Lyn Blair – August 23, 2007 11:45 PM

And that is EXACTLY why Josh Johnson will always be my favorite Design Star. Josh, out of what we've seen on camera, you've had the most postive outlook out of everyone. You have great confidence in your abilities and dazzled us all without ever once putting anyone else down. I've been wondering if any of the designers have been reading our rants and raves, and it means a lot to me (and I'm sure to all of us) that you took the time to write back. Even your exit interview was inspirational, and you're right... we do still want more of the Sparkle. :)

WOW! Dear Josh ... You are a true gentleman, a total class-act, and will be a STAR in MY heart forever. Thanks for letting us know that you're doing fine, that you've read what we've written, and that YOU know how much we love you! And, yes, we ALL know that your "sparkle" comes from your heart and that it IS the true you. Much love and happiness to you, and THANK YOU for being so ... FABULOUS!!!

Wow! What a classy guy. Josh, God has given you so many beautiful gifts to share with the world. I found your website and I listened to your singing. You are amazing. Best of luck in all your endeavors. I will definitely be watching. You have a fan for life!

Oh, Wow that was amazing to hear from Josh. You, Josh are a polished writer and I loved your sincerity and genuine encouragement about watching Design Star to the end. I have been so upset by the way the show went last week, (like nothing good came out of what happened) that it is nice to hear words of encouragement from YOU!!
Hope to see you JOSH, on a program or show! That would be so wonderful!!!

Posted by reena – August 23, 2007 10:41 PM

Hi Josh!
I just knew my blog for the last episode was delayed because we all had to write and say that we miss you terribly and want you back!! I know you will be back and HGTV will have you hosting a show or a special. It's not Sept 16th yet...maybe Lady Luck has something else in store...! I'm ready to place a bet...on PLATINUM, bring back Sparkle Josh!!

Posted by Eileen – August 23, 2007 10:31 PM

Josh you still deserve a show of your own. You are a GOLD mine of talent. The networks must know that. The viewers have spoken and we also are the consumers that the advertisers want!

Posted by Mary – August 23, 2007 10:31 PM

All of us know that when we enter competition that the best in our eyes may not be the one that the judges choose. They may be looking at things we cannot see. I agree that Josh is a class act in his work, his attitude and his blog. Perhaps we who also blog should consider emulating the same attitude and show some class from this side. I will miss Josh also but I will be looking for good in the four remaining contestants. Thank you Josh. Keep your
"sparkle."
Mary Lynn

How very nice of Josh. Smart too - lets hope his brains, pleasant personality and fan base get him on a show in the the near future

Posted by Manik – August 23, 2007 10:09 PM

It doesn't matter what HGTV Design Star Judges think, to me JOSH IS MY DESIGN STAR. I would so LOVE for him to have a show and I wish HGTV had the common sense to grab him. Josh if you read this, I want you to know the Josh/Will bedroom was inviting and classy, your dining room was to die for and your individual room was so inventive...adored the glass plate wall sconce's and your table place setting brought the only hint of class to a totally tasteless wedding reception. (I think this HAD to be a made up couple).

I will watch the last show...ONLY because I hope to see Josh and his "sparkle" again.

I guess I will post this here as I can't find anywhere else to put it. I was wanting to see the videos on the Design Star page, ie Vlog by David, etc but am unable to because of the missing plug in Flip4Mac. I downloaded it and it still didn't work, I even emailed the Flip4Mac folks and they couldn't get it to work on HGTV either. I wish HGTV would use something that we can see things with. I have a Mac but am able to see all the videos on all the other sites. I emailed them but got no response. Does anyone else have a problem viewing videos on HGTV?
