The season premiere of Design Star (June 8th, 9/8c) is about a week away, and we're counting down by reliving the past two seasons with some of your favorite Design Star alumni. First up is Southern gal and America’s sweetheart, Alice Fakier.

Alice spills about how she really felt as runner-up to David Bromstad when he was crowned HGTV's first Design Star. I remember that moment well (parked on my couch, eyes glued to the screen) and so does Alice. I caught up with Alice to ask her what she'd change if she were to do it all over again — you'll be surprised at her answer!
Check back for the next podcast in the series, when I get personal with another former contestant. Or, get automatically alerted when the next podcast goes live by subscribing to the podcast series with iTunes (link opens in iTunes).
You can also find Alice's suggestions for window treatments and headboards right here on HGTV.com.

I don't know, sometimes all it takes to really pull a room look together is a nice big fuzzy moose head.

Alice is awesome. I think she is from the same state as D. Paul season three finalist. of course she has animal heads on her wall....she is from Louisiana...hunting capital of the world. I hope Alice and D. Paul can get together and do a show together - now that would be something I would watch...there is some serious talent down in the south. Alice and D. Paul - whoo hoo!!!!

Okay, I voted for Alice during Season 1...and I would vote for her again - honest integrity, good design sense, and down home country charm.
Although I considered the final showdown between her and David as a WIN-WIN situation. They both captured me with their attitudes and designs. But I was more drawn to Alice's homey, comfortable style and she is a winner in my book!
As for the animal heads, etc...I can relate to that - my husband and I have learned the fine art of compromise in our home. He has one room I DON'T TOUCH (and the rest of the house is mine!)

Alice is the best! It is a shock to learn that she has animal heads on her walls. She must really love that husband of hers!
