Oaklawn was seriously a little spooky! I don’t know how country legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette could spend the night in this place when they owned it in the early ’70s? And lore, or rather Tammy’s biography, suggests that one night Tammy didn’t want George going out on the town so she hid all the keys to their cars only to have George, in desperation, drive his tractor to the local bar. When Tammy discovered he was gone she got in her car, drove into town and yanked him out of there. Who knows for sure what really happened? Maybe the ghosts can tell us.

When I first walked into the house, the hair stood up on the back of my neck. I didn’t blame ol’ George for wanting to get out. Especially when we asked the caretaker of the home if he’s ever seen any ghosts or heard anything unusual when he’s stayed the night there (nobody actually lives in the home now — it gets rented for special occasions). He assured us this was one active haunted house. DVR alert: Be sure to re-watch the section during the judging when the stuff comes flying off the walls. We assure you this was not staged! I think the spirits wanted to let Vern, Martha and Cynthia know what they thought of the rooms since they were not going to be able to make it to the studio. And here’s some insider scoop: We once considered Oaklawn to be the designers’ home this season. Lucky for the contestants, it was determined the old plumbing couldn’t handle a cast and crew numbering close to 100.

Armchair Critic
Kudos to Matt, Michael, Mikey V. and Stephanie this week. Their rooms were beautiful. Black walls are a risky choice and they did an amazing job. Just stunning when you walked into the room. Be sure to check your DVRs to get a look at Michael’s black and white drapes too. Hats off to Stephanie for turning the flamingo she chose in the garage sale into numerous pieces — very clever! And Mikey V’s detail work on the walls was very well done. Their room was both bright and welcoming. Another DVR alert: Tracee got knocked for her chairs, but it was the fabric rug I question most. We all felt badly that D. Paul was eliminated, but his time management and lack of creativity with his garage sale item definitely hurt him in the end.
Lots of people, including my mom, are wondering what the “POA” stands for. Well, it stands for “plan of attack” — how they are going to get the challenge and design accomplished under a strict timeline. POA will come into play more and more as the season unfolds, so stay tuned.
And because you’re all wondering, they do get to work on their own next week. We also have a special hosting challenge you’ll only get to see right here on HGTV.COM.
Thanks for watching.

This season of design Star certainly was tightened up in terms of content and pace, but abit too much. Any show that hits it right from the start sets the bar high. Unfortunatly the bar is abitt oo high for the proucers to maintain the quality. Season 2 was a disaster in terms of content. Wether new production staff was installed or revamping the format was the plan (very rarely a good idea when you already have a ratings winner on a proven forumla). This season we got a lot of tabloid TV, and not much design.
The judges are not strong enough either..Vern Yip is the most unprofessional person I have seen on the network.
What has happened with Design Star has happened with other successfuls hows in the past. New people, new approaches and suddenly a winning formula is no longer bringing in the ratings it once was. And we fans are left saying.."what happened?"

I will add my agreement to most of what has been said. This season is truely disappointing. I wish you would go back to finding talented would be designers instead of the so called professionals. I love David and Kim. I like that their shows are different and both offer great ideas. There is no one left I feel inspired enough about to vote for. Choose better next time.

I do not think this years contestents are really the best that could have been chosen. I have not seen very much creativity from any of them.

I really don't know what to say about this season. Season One was spectacular, Season Two a little less so, but this season is really the worst !! Vern is the only judge who really is a designer and who knows what he is talking about. The other two are fluff and don't add a thing, either from experience or design perspective.
And the designers!!! Where did you find these people?? How were they selected?? Perhaps there should be a competition to see who actually gets to complete on TV, because I haven't seen the star quality here, or the originality that I saw in Season One. Michael broke down in the interview for heaven's sakes, yet Vern runs after him?? And all Stephanie could do is cry about EVERYTHING. And Tracee...come on. D Paul had the makings of a serious contender and an excellent designer, yet Tracee is kept on. And for what? I hadn't seen her accomplish anything up to that point.
I was so excited to see Design Star come back on, especially as it was in Nashville. There is so much inspiration in the South and in middle Tennessee, but it seems lost on the designers. Unless the show improves dramatically, and soon, I won't be watching Season Four. I am getting very frustrated with HGTV in general, because all the shows, with few exceptions are not only re-runs, they are are re-runs from as many as 4 years ago. HGTV has always been one of my mainstays, as network TV and even much of cable is total garbage, but I'm beginning to feel as if the producers believe they can throw anything on and we'll watch. But in my case, I guess I'll just start reading more!!

This is the worst season ever. Get new judges and better contestants. Keeping Tracee on for ratings and drama will backfire. I for one, have watched my last episode. The CRYING with Michael and him wanting his Mother???!! - Please grow up.
HGTV - this is your fault. You allowed it to get this bad.

D. Paul went home for one reason....he didn't effectively use his garage sale item.
The most important thing to these judges is to follow the instructions. If you do not manage your time correctly, and you do not complete the task, you go home.
D. Paul did not complete the task. Unfortunately.
Tracee did. That's why she is still here and he is not. Sorry guys.

I'm sorry I wasted my time watching the program again only to see Tracee make it one more time. It is starting to look very false and the better designer are being sent home for drama reasons. Get a life judges. You are slipping Vern. I'm in agreement the wrong person was sent home D Paul was a real person and To keep Tracee was a real waste of talent. I was tired of Mike I had hope for him but he did blow it this week but he was still better than Tracee.
Posted by dovie – June 30, 2008 5:04 AM
yes, i agree.....the judges missed the mark big time.....D. Paul did "poorly time" his project....but at least he was doing his project....and trying, which is much more than i can say for Tracee....she spent the whole time off doing "who knows what" and when she was present she was so busy trying to blame everyone else for her talentless tactics that she accomplished absolutely nothing...then afterwards tried to blame her poor showing on her partner, which she was lucky to have had or nothing would have been done at all....
Tracee, in my opinion, is not someone that would make HGTV a channel that i would want to watch anymore. She is rude, insufferable and self-centered. She is so full of her own self-importance that she cant see a true design if it bit her.

Just watch or REwatched last weeks episode. Thought I would find something I missed that the judges were viewing for the decision to get rid of D'Paul and keep Miss Priss. Well, if the judges disliked her room so much and used no creativity with the object she chose .... what's the issue? Can we assume the judges have no idea how winey and lazy she is? D'Paul never stopped working, from what was seen on the show, while Ms T did nothing but spend time at the store. Did she contribute to any of the labor in the room? Second time around today, I didn't see where she helped except in color choice and shopping. If teams are in the future, I feel sorry for anyone who has to be paired with her. A great twist would be to bring back D'Paul, at least that would bring some excitement to this seasons show.

I cannot believe Tracee made it through a second week of design. She should have been thrown out the first week. SHe is not a team player and stabs her team mates in the back then wants to cry about it.....OH BOOHOO get rid of her. D.Paul should not have been sent home. I like the room they design it was masculine and looked like it belonged in a SOuthern mansion. Tracee has not contributed anything except turmoil. Come Design Star I love your show but there is no way she could host a show! David and Kims shows are great she is no where in their class!
Wake up judges

Why not just do a cross-over episode with Ghost Hunters? That would have been more interesting.
So far, too much focus on personality, and too little focus on design. I agree the opener was a big yawn (no design AT ALL), and am as annoyed with Tracee as everyone else.... It's soooo transparent that she is being kept on to feed the ratings.
I also think the show is too formulaic. Everything is contemporary and looks like set design. (I like contemporary, but it's not the only design style on the planet). The judges are getting stale...and the focus on drama and 'team challenges' is too 'survivor'-ish.
Why not have folks design a signature room and give them a real budget for decent furniture and fabrics, and some help with the execution? These folks are supposed to be designers, not contractors. Better yet - why not force them to design and execute a room in a style that doesn't involve black walls and 'modern' accessories or 'hollywood glamour'?
Why not bring in a 'wild card' judge who's a real designer (as they do on Project Runway) or better yet - team up each designer with a real client with real money and a real point of view and see how they do with that?
Overall, HGTV's programming seems to have gone from a mix of design and DIY shows to a bunch of "trading-spaces"-like shows which showcase a lot of sloppy, cheap-looking design, and a bunch of shows about selling one's house - good luck with that in this market.
Color Correction and Myles of Style nearly make me ill because the execution is so poor. When I can spot a bad paint job on TV, I cringe to think what the rooms look like in person. If either host came to my house I think I'd lock the doors and hide.
Candace Olsen seems to be the only designer left on the network who's actually a trained designer and exhibits quality design and workmanship.
I know this was a really crabby post. But it sounds like many folks agree that the show (and the network) is going down the tubes....

I agree Tracee should have been sent home. Her time management was worse than D. Paul's. 5 hours for accessories and a can of paint??? Please~~~~~~~ I could do that faster with my 4yr old granddaughter "helping".
You are looking for a talented professional designer, not a whining, sniveling, it's everyone else's fault, complainer.
She my add some drama, but let's be fair.
Posted by Mary, WI – June 29, 2008 1:21 AM
I agree....just get rid of Tracee. She is just irritating and she needs to go!!!!
Posted by Cindy – June 29, 2008 1:19 AM
will HGTV'S
design star producers and etc get the message that a change HAS to be made.....?
Posted by carol – June 28, 2008 10:46 PM
I'm just letting the show ride and we'll see what happens... whether I am happy or not with the decisions. But what I do want to express is I think that the designers should have atleast two challenges before booting the first designer off. I feel it is too quick to make a truly informative decision. Let them get a little more comfortable with the process first.
Posted by Kara – June 28, 2008 10:40 PM
I usually can't stand it when everyone writes in to say the same thing over and over again, but maybe this time the comments will be a "petition" to the producers: If we want to watch a show full of overly-contrived drama, we'll watch The Surreal Life or one of countless others. Please don't turn Design Star into just another show that should be on VH1 or E! Lose Tracee and the fake reality show feel; bring back D Paul and the kind of quality shows for which HGTV is known. IMPORTANT: THe long list of comments doesn't mean the show is controversial in a good way and will keep viewers -- we're unhappy and don't want to have to give up a good show!
Whew. Now I'm finished!

I enjoy this show sooo much. I am amazed at all the crying this year. What is the matter with these girls? They need Prozac or some serious therapy..geez, what a mess they are.
Posted by Susan L – June 28, 2008 1:18 PM
I hate it that all we can talk about here is Tracee. I suspect that she is not nearly as awful in real life (she wouldn't stay in business if she was) and that she is playing her "role" as directed.
My opinion of the judges has sunk to a new low - I give a higher approval rating to George W than to any of them.
I don't watch reality shows because they are stupid. Design Star 1 was a show about design; Design Star 2 became more like an american-idol-wannabee and less of a design competition. If producers had read any of last season's blogs they would have known how disappointed the audience was. If they did read the blogs, then they are just arrogant, because Season 3 is heading down that same horrible path.
If they keep Tracee for "ratings" it shows that the producers have no idea who there audience is.
Designaholics don't care about the drama - there is daytime TV and Survivor for that - we want to see DESIGN and creativity not whining, crying, back-stabbing and bitching.

i didn't get a chance to watch the 1st season, but i did watch all of the 2nd season and this show is starting to be just like every other competition show on television today. to be completely honest Tracey should've been sent home, but she's staying because she creates drama (which the camera/producers love)and she cries alot. D. Paul spent too much time on the molding and little time on his bow, but at least he owned it, and what was the point of Cynthia's little speech...isn't that what he tried to do, and look how he was rewarded. my prediction for the show...Tracey will stay on for a few more episodes for added drama, then will be dismissed...along the way people who should've stayed will be sent home. i dare them to prove me wrong.

Yeesh, people, it's called editing. Tracee can still decorate about 500 times better than I can. Go Matt! He's such a good soul and I love his ideas.

Shame on you for not canceling Tracee's "show" during the first elimination. It's a shame you don't even believe in your own show, and keeping a sniveling, whiny person to try and increase ratings? People are tired of that. For once it would be great to watch this show where we could see some real designing and not all the drama. Please change this or people will start changing the channel.
The only good thing about this Season are Sparkle Josh's Vlogs!
Posted by velvet350 – June 28, 2008 12:55 AM
the only room i really really liked was michael and matts. stephanie and mikey vs room i liked okay. trish and d pauls room was just not fabulous and tracees and jens room stunk. i thought the "ghost" thing was really cheesy and rigged. the only real BOO was not the ghosts, but that obnoxious tracee girl. GET HER OFF THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by mandykn* – June 27, 2008 10:11 PM
I, too, agree that D. Paul should have stayed and Tracee should have had her show cancelled. Two weeks of less-than-stellar design/teamwork is worse than one.
Isn't the grand prize YOUR OWN SHOW? Who on earth would want to watch Tracee host a show? Her ego is well beyond her (apparent) talent, her teamwork is way below par, and she has managed to make a huge fool of herself in the first two challenges.
Remember in the first episode when they showed some of the initial interviews and the judges were all concerned about hosting capability? Hellloooooo! Sorry, but Tracee has shown us, so far, she's at the bottom of the group for hosting talent.
And just a comment about the theory the producers are keeping her on for the drama... I am not watching to see her piss and moan. I am watching to see design. If all I get is drama, this show is cancelled!
Posted by Gigi – June 27, 2008 9:58 PM
I was really disappointed that D. Paul got kicked off the show. I think that Tracee should have been tared and feathered and run out of town. She is such a winer! The judges need to shape up or get new judges.
Posted by JS red – June 27, 2008 8:39 PM
After reading these blogs and watching the first two shows, I am in agreement with those who think Tracee should have gone the first week.
I don't always want to live in the rooms that Vern designs, but I do recognize his talent and vision. I also love what he did with Southern Hope Animal Shelter in Roswell. Design is beauty in the eye of the beholder. We will never all love the same things, how boring that would be!
David Bromstad is awesome, I love how he leaves a one-of-a-kind piece of art for his clients. I don't see any of that charm yet this season, but I have faith, it's early yet.
Myles of Style is totally different, but I like it too. I tend to be a reuse/recycle/repurpose kind of decorator in my home, so some of her stuff appeals to me.
This season, there are a lot of non team players.
Time will tell. I'm still watching!
Posted by Maureen – June 27, 2008 7:33 PM
I too have been very disappointed with the show this year. I have to say that D. Paul showed good design, it is quite hard to put up crow moldings by yourself and if his team mate had helped him it would not have taken long at all. I was really shocked to see that D. Paul's show was canceled instead of Tracee's; as she has not shown any design talent at all.
I think that having the designers work as teams so much in the begining gives some of the designers that do not seem to have as much talent ride on the skirt tails of better designers they are hooked up with. And therefore we are not keeping some of the better designers such as D.Paul.
I am really shocked at the judges decision to let D. Paul go. When his design was good and he Did Get It Finished even though time management could have been improved. But Tracee had terrible time management and did not have a good room too boot. She never seems to come up with any design on her own and then while shopping goes off in fantasy land and foregets she is on a time schedule.???
I hope the show gets better or I will not continue to watch it. What a shame I was so looking forward to great designers this year and I can do better than most on the show.
There was not one room in the last show that I would have wanted in my home. Pity on all so far.

You are so right Billie. To be honest, I am tired of ALL of the catch phrases and buzz words used univerally on HGTV... "Clean Lines" -- Yuck. Every time I hear that I wanna shout, "Give me Dirty Lines dangit!" LOL.
But seriously, as for Tracee... I fully understand why the producers are keeping her around - ratings. Kind of a gamble for them to take though. After scrolling thru the posts, it looks like Design Star is losing viewers. For me, Tracee is BIG entertainment value (seeing grown-ups act like that is always funny). I use her in my customer service speaking engagements as an example too (how NOT to win in your business). But my comment on her behavior is this: Can you imagine Candace Olson or Lisa LaPorta behaving like this? Chico would have run and found another person to work for/with and Clive wouldn't have that much to do with Lisa anymore.
Just my .02 cents here in Atlanta.

Well I am fairly disappointed in this season of Design Star. The opener was way too long and very boring. Good thing I had it Tivo'd. I would prefer to have the designers do at least two episodes before you start eliminating them. As for Tracee...she could have been eliminated right after the season opener!
Posted by Lillie – June 27, 2008 6:50 AM
Why is tracy still there? She does not have any design style. She cannot get along with the others. She just does not have any personality especially one you want to see.
Get rid of her.

After watching the initial interviews and the first episodes of this season, I wonder if anyone else is tired of the buzz words"out of the box", "mixing eclectic with _______"(choose your own style, "glam "this or that? I would really enjoy seeing more of the design process, and the how to process. Having a handy-person assigned to each designer, and being able to see their individual efforts sooner, rather than later, would add serious delight in this program. If the "wildly imaginative" has to be translated as "a room to look at" rather than live in, try to at least give equal time to quality of design and life. If I am doing a project at home, I am more interested in having the design last longer than 48 hours than I am in completing the project in a ridiculous time frame. HGTV live up to your standards....we've come to expect quality, not gimmicks.
Posted by billie – June 27, 2008 4:28 AM
Perhaps the judges don't know how the teams work together and the conflict that happens. If they don't even go to the rooms to judge them, then they really have no idea how the design time was spent or who did what until they question them in the studio. I do agree with the general consensus that D.Paul was wronged, but we are watching only the parts the want us to see, and may not have the whole picture. I also agree that I would like to see the design process, and stop these ridiculous time frames, and not having any carpentry or painting help. You don't see Candace Olsen doing the electrical work or the carpentry. She's the DESIGNER!!

I just want to say that I am so disappointed in this season's design star. Design Star was my favorite show that past two seasons, but this season is rediculous. I was so angry after D. Paul was eliminated that I have decided not to continue watching this show. I think we need new judges. I agree that these judges are very talented but I don't think they have the same enthusiasm that they did the last two seasons. There were clearly two other contestants who had more difficulty with their time management skills. I also don't think that D. Paul was wrong in his choice of the moulding, but the benefit of it didn't show up in a photo. I think the judges should have visited the actual site. I will not watch again unless D. Paul returns.

D.Paul voted off!! I've known him for quite awhile now from his hometown in Louisiana and when he was voted off over that other girl Tracee..I was appauled to say the least !! What were you guys thinking? Tracee went out and bought furniture and so said thought it was 12 when it was really 2...HELLO..where is your watch? And where was D.Paul while she was out, leaving her partner by herself? HMMMM...Let's see, D.Paul was in the room working. He has a vision for a room unlike no other AND this has been a gift of his since he very young. PLEASE GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE !!! I know the blogs must be flooding the judges and they have to see that a mistake was clearly made. D.Paul, keep your head up because we all know that nothing can keep you down!!!

D Paul- you was robbed. But now I know about you and found your great web-site and will be following what I believe will be a great and successful career.

I'm actually enjoying the shows but frustrated that it's too early to see the actual designer's styles emerge. The haunted house was a hoot, but D. Paul should not have gone home. Bring him back. Run Tracee off. Thanks!

WOW, what a disappointing new season of Design Star. Why not let the contestants do at least two shows before elimination. I hope they get rid of Tracy also. Why D-Paul was let go, is beyond me. Also these judges suck. They always go for the weird or strange designs. Why not have some real experts, like Candace Olsen? Also I am not a fan of Kim Myles, I voted for her and I have seen only one show of hers that I thought was any good. I think her show has gone to her head. I didn't vote for David, but i never miss an episode, I love his desighs and he's so down to earth and gives everyone on his team credit and not just himself as Myles does. I hope Desigh Star gets its act together and if not, don't have another one!!!!!
Posted by Sherri – June 26, 2008 4:03 PM
My vote most definetly goes to Mikey V. I love his style and I believe that he will make a great host but most of all I think he is a great Designer. 'Go Mikey V'!!!! You got my vote.. ( =
Posted by Janeka – June 26, 2008 3:42 PM
Design Star should take a tip from Hell's Kitchen, just have an opening show where your contestants are shown on the opening credits, and the begin designing the first show. We will learn about the contestants through their work, and interactions with others. Your opening show was DEADLY dull. I would also suggest some individual competitions early, teams are unfair that tie better designers to lousey partners.

I'm so glad someone else can see how stupid that was to let that guy go over ttracee she should have been sent home on the last show and not even made it this far, she doesn't play well with other or do much other than waste time. I don't see how she ever gets anything done. It must take her a year to do a home.

I just finished watching this past Sundays episode as I dvrd it! I was shocked and appalled that Tracce was left standing! I agree with everything that everyone has posted, she is rude, lazy, a whiner, etc. I can't believe the judges would state that D.Paul did not finish his room! He painted the bow and " sculptured" it. Which is much more than what we can say for the " poor me" everyone is against me girl! I was so happy to see that the others on the show were feeling the same thing! They did not want to see her walk into the room either and didn't even aknowledge her. Good for them as she has been rude to every last one of them. I too am almost tempted to stop watching as I am quite disgusted with the eliminations they have made! Which is a shame as this is a show I always look forward to watching and I DVR it so as not to miss an episode.

I have watched every show since the show has started, and I'm seriusly wondering if I should continue....I know you think ratings are more important, but I'm really disappointed in the judging on this one......after last week-Tracy needs to go!!! My husband and I had to tape the show and was just able to watch it, and I am so DISAPPOINTED!!! Tracy had worse time management skills with her 5 hours (and a nap) of shopping. At least D Paul was working the whole time on his ceiling work. Let me know when Tracy is off the show, and I'll return to watching.

Tracee is fodder for the network. All her designs are childish as well as herself. Let's start focusing on the "designers" since that is why we want to watch the show. Remove Tracee and you might get more views back. I've removed HGTV from my Tivo. suffice to say I won't be watching you anymore but I will catch the last episode to see if you got your brains back.
Posted by Marie – June 25, 2008 10:03 PM
Everyone is talking about Tracee but it is obviously the producers who are instigating this drama just like the producers planned the really lame first show. Dumb, dumb and dumber. The time constraints are really stupid. Designing needs some time to develop a plan. The way this works is that they all run to the store to buy a bunch of stupid knicknaks before they have the concept. Real designers don't work this way nor do they do carpentry. In the first D.S. the contestants had carpenters to help at least in one episode. We want more design and less drama. And new judges.
Posted by Cindy – June 25, 2008 8:52 PM
If HGTV cares about its reputation, and quality programing, they should bring back D Paul and change judges. The judges should be from fellow designers. Vern Yip is great. But so is Kim Myles and David B. Did any of them have time management problems in the beginning? Mentor your prospective new stars. And, in the name of good taste, better show quality, and honesty, get the hell rid of Tracee. What a witch! How can you justify booting D Paul and keeping a brat who whines, cries, doesn't know teamwork, doesn't accept responsibility and has NO talent. Tracee if you are reading this....GO HOME!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Claire – June 25, 2008 8:21 PM
This is the only reality show I watch. Most of these contestants couldn't design their way out of a paperbag. The assignments and judging are awful. You leave the worst of the lot (Tracee) and cancel D. Paul. Give me a break. HGTV you have disappointed me.

Helloooo, people -
I must claim to hail from the same hometown as Tracee, but most certainly NOT the same mind-set. She was right about everyone here being able to tell her rooms in the Desgners' Showhouses each year, but NOT for the reasons she intimated in the clip.......
D. Paul took a fall and the concensus seems to be that the wrong person did so. Such a shame, but the exposure IS invaluable for him, while it's not doing Tracee any good around our fair city. Judges, please take note?????? But then, the taping is over, I only pray that the final 2 does NOT include Ms. Dore, there are so MANY others more deserving, talented and level-headed.

I am D. Paul's identical twin brother. Yes....he has a twin brother. I have refrained from doing this but after reading this blog site, I can't resist. to the producers of the show...some how, some way... please give my brother one more shot. You will seriously get many viewers back in the game. There's always a twist up your sleeves, so make this twist happen.

I watched the HGTV show Design Star show on Sunday, June 22 and I was sooooo MAD that I couldn’t see straight! There was absolutely NO reason and I mean NO reason for D. Paul to be let go from the show over TRACEE! Even though his inspiration (the bow) was a mess at least he made an attempt to do something with it. Tracee just put her glass bowl on three fanned books! I am not a professional designer and I can do better than that. I would not expect that from someone who claims to be a professional designer. And the sad thing about it she really THINKS she is an amazing designer. I don't know how in the world she expects to be the next DESIGN STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad to see the consensus is that Tracee neeeds to go. Maybe we are just seeing the worst of her on TV but I have yet to see her be creative what so ever. She needs to get over herself!! We were screaming at the TV when D PAul was cut.

I was really upset with the judges choice. Tracee needs to go. She doesn't work well with others and she cries way to much. I think D Paul should have been saved. I really think this season they all have problems with time management. They do need to step it up. I love this show

I so do not like jennifer, her attitude sucks, she's too bossy and I will not watch her show if she wins although I don't think she has what it takes to host her own show she seems a bit boring. I did like the room she and stephanie designed. Stephanie is air headish to me would not be interested in watching her show either. it is early in the season of course. There is entirely too much crying going on it's sickening, they don't even know each other and they're crying for each other and being so sensitive.

HGTV, please when you run the episodes of DS 3, I would like to see Color Splash and David's picture promoted instead of the MOS. Or if you must, you should advertise his show too. After all, in my opinion, David's show is the best. Can't even compare his show to MOS. There is no comparison. I read most of the post here and a lot of us favor David. He is the best of the best.

I agree with the rest of the world! Tracee needs to get off the show. She gets on my last nerve! I can not believe that you let D Paul go over Tracee! That was like a no-brainer! And I agree with the woman that said to let Candice Olsen be a judge! SHE IS THE BOMB! She can decorate circles around anyone in the world when it comes to style! I love everything she creates! But someone needs to resolve this Tracee "thing" or no one is going to care to see who wins the show of their own, because noone will be watching it!

This year I am not enjoying the show. No one is that good. I have a problem with the judges, and Clive. He does not look happy to be there. On his show he smiles, on this one he looks mean and his voice has no music to it. As far as Vern goes, I don't even like his show. For the ladies, surely you could have found better judges. I thought you would after last year. There are wonderful ladies on your station why not look to them to be new judges. If for some reason this show goes on to next year I for one would like to see all new judges!

I think we all agree Tracee HAS TO GO!!! I'm so sick of her crying about everything, which she brings on herself. She'll start something then cry and walk out of the room. None of the designers are very good this season, they all do the same rooms everyday people do - that's not HGTV Designstar quality and that's not what everyone wants to see. I know tv is all about the ratings and the more drama the more people talk about it, but this season is just stupid - between the drama queen Tracee and the drama queen Michael (I'm the greatest-well when are you going to show it?) HGTV you could have found better talent in any city just by doing a random pick!!!
Posted by Pam – June 25, 2008 10:48 AM
Please send Tracee back to wa wa land....enough with the drama! She is out to wreck havoc with the other decorators....it is her way or no way. I almost turned off the show this week. What bridge did you find her under!?

My husband and I were totally shocked to see D.Rock get booted off the show this past Sunday. All due to, what, time management??? Too flimsy of a reason. It's a shame that D.Rock who does have decent ideas, at this point in the show, has to be let go in order to keep the viewers coming back next week.
Yes, this is television and ratings do count above all but please this show in particular is about designing, not whinning!
Such a vicious game, television, the networks need us to get the ratings, blog and talk about whom we may dislike, and come back for more the following week, gotta love it! :o)
It's a show we can enjoy all in all and it's only for a few weeks; after that we go back to our usual HGTV shows we all love.

I used to enjoy watching this show but I think I just watched my last episode. I can not believe that Tracee is still on the show. What did she do to this room. Jen was left alone to do all the work while Tracee was shopping. I wonder who Tracee has control over that she has not been sent home yet. I'm sorry to say I will not be back to watch this show any more.
Posted by joyce – June 25, 2008 7:49 AM
What a mistake sending D Paul home. He has the talent, "hosting ability" & ideas. I know Tracee won't make it much further, unless HGTV starts producing a Soap Opera. All these shows are in the can, but if there is any way to bring D Paul back you should.
Posted by Maureen – June 25, 2008 6:41 AM
My wife and I just finished watching our dvr'd episode, hence the late comment.
Are you kidding me?! Now, I'm not sure that D. Paul would have went all the way (I'm not sure who that would be yet), but Tracee?! Seriously?!
I think my wife has the best reason: Tracee brings drama. Drama means viewers. It's still a pretty crappy thing to do though.
Also, I didn't care for the derogatory way that D. Paul and Trish's room was described as 'manly.' What's wrong with that? The judges may not have thought that they lived up to the expectations of the challenge, but the first comment was not, "You didn't do what the challenge required." It was "man's room" or "manly" as it's stated online. No one said, Tracee and Jennifer's room looked, "Girlie". Just that it sucked.
Okay. I've vented enough.

all the design stars are terrible this season not a one of them has any style this is the worst season yet dont know if i am gonna continue to watch it
Posted by cindy kilbreth – June 25, 2008 1:22 AM
Tracee should go .I can see it is hard for the designers because each one of them have there own way of doing things.I think it is hard to work as a team like this.Everybody has their own way of making it happen.I have my eye on two designers and they have proved so far they can do the job.I wish them luck and Micheal needs to buckle down and show just what he can do.I agree with others D George should have stayed.

I like this show a lot and love watching Design Star and Food Network star back to back. I'm not really crazy about any of the designers so far, since I usually lock into one the first episode. I was disappointed that the contestant who worked on Extreme Makeovers wasnt chosen instead of some of the others. I know the network is trying to promote drama, thus they milk the Tracee disputes to keep the entertainment value, but it's a bit old. Lets stick to design, not drama! I was a little confused about what the judges exactly liked about most of the "winners" but I'll wait and see next week when they individualize...
Posted by Bridget – June 25, 2008 1:10 AM
I agree with the judges that I haven't seen much creativity yet from any of the contestants. I like to see something different not the same old (yawn) boring designs. I can think of more unique ways to design a room and I'm not even a designer. So come on and get with it. As for the judges decisions to keep Tracee for one more show is a turn off. D. Paul had more to offer and was voted off too soon.
Posted by Fran – June 25, 2008 12:56 AM
Is anyone else annoyed by Vern? He is so patronizing but I'll tell you, his deserving design rooms are pretty awful, IMHO. Candles in every single design, million of 'em, hard to get at to light and can you imagine cleaning the wax outta all of those tiny votive glasses? And every single room with the candles. Weird colors, Unappealing designs. yuk.
How about Candace Olson for a judge? or the woman from "Find Your Style". Now those women can design a room! And I can imagine them being straightforward without being demeaning in their judging.
I think they are editing Tracee to be hated; I'm sure there is much more to the story but they want us to hate her.
Posted by joan – June 25, 2008 12:16 AM
Do the judges think that Tracee actually has a hope of people watching her as a design show host? At this point, she hasn't shown any ability except to be a thorn in everyone's side. I think the judges are only keeping her around for the "drama". What's a reality show without 7th grade moments of bickering. Bring back D. Paul. The judges were off the mark this week!!
Posted by Dana – June 24, 2008 11:48 PM
I am a huge fan of Design Star, but this season stinks! I'd like to see more of D. Paul's creativity and less of the cry babies. Tracee should have gone home. Throw a new twist in the show and bring D. Paul back. I think he has alot to show the viewers. Tracee started out placing blame on everyone but herself; bringing her grandma's vase to the space.
Posted by JeanB – June 24, 2008 10:39 PM
It's funny how upset everyone is about Tracee. I think that I have figured out her place on the show....she is the MOLE! How clever of the producers to throw a wrench in the works. Makes for more interesting TV when you have a spoiler in the brew.
Posted by Connie – June 24, 2008 10:25 PM
Well, I rated the spaces (per my unprofessional opinion) and what did I see?
There were some nice design elements in each of the rooms:
loved the simplicity and symmetry of the "black room"...and I loved what D. Paul did with the lowered ceilings in the "green" room, the organic bench and the moldings were my favorites in the "blue room"...and I liked the Grace Jones silloutte in the (what color was that?) room by Jen and Tracee.
Alas, and maybe I missed the whole challenge here - but I was a little disappointed in seeing ALL of the designers with pretty much the same layout and function - a big room with sofa, chairs, rugs, and window treatments. Where was the over the top function - why not a gaming room somewhere or music room? or a library?
Posted by Pret – June 24, 2008 10:21 PM
Boring season and the judges (and producers) probably know it too well. I imagine they will have some surprise in the next week or two to stimulate this group. The next time they do some picking, they need a separate panel to do it. These judges form a prejudice when they are picking contestants. That's why this season is so dull. In my opinion, Vern Yip couldn't design a dog house. He's critical of contestants on air personality. If you watch "Deserving Design" you know he's never taken his own advice. The man is boring.
Posted by David – June 24, 2008 10:15 PM
The judges say, "No guts, no glory", "Make a bold move", and yet D Paul was doing just that and was cancelled. Those rooms had 12ft ceilings which dwarfed the windows and mantles. His idea to balance the scale was excellent and took "guts" - unlike some of the lame tactics of others. I am very dissappointed in this years Design Star and feel it gives the whole design trade a bad name - as if these contestants are a reflection of the industry! Most are not. Please stop insulting our intelligence. There are soap operas throughout the day if we want to watch this kind of drama.
Posted by Queen Bee – June 24, 2008 9:45 PM
This latest decision by the judges was a farce. D Paul has more talent in his little finger than that crybaby Tracee. Gag me. HGTV judges please make this a show worth watching by getting rid of her. no talent or team work ability. Can you image her working with a crew- no way.
Posted by debv – June 24, 2008 8:40 PM
I think Tracee is being kept on for entertainment! However, I don't find her whining very entertaining.
I love this show and record each one, however, I don't think this season is as good as the last two.
Maybe we just haven't seen their talents yet. I think maybe a change in judges might be helpful. I won't stop watching no matter who wins. But am not sure there really is anyone good enough to win, YET!
Posted by Em – June 24, 2008 8:31 PM
I just cannot believe with as little as Tracie has contribute to the designs that she is still on the show. This is about the design not the drama queen, kicking and stumping your feet to get your own way should have stopped when she was two. I agree that we need to see carpenters doing the work and the designer's designing so we can really see their ability. DPaul is one that should have stayed with his capabilities the show would be more about how to create.

I am so disappointed with this year's show. Where's the talent that we saw the first two seasons. These "designers" need to show more imagination and creativity. I agree with ALL the previous comments about getting rid of Tracee, and if the judges did keep her for the confrontation aspect, shame on them!
Posted by Judy – June 24, 2008 7:46 PM
I just hope that Tracee stays until the final two. That way, we can all vote for whoever else is still in and watch her get crushed. So no, I don't want her show to be canceled. I want her to stay in until the bitter, painful end.

I beleive these shows were taped a couple months age so the judges don't know how we feel about Tracee. But from last seasons comments about Robb the judges have to know that we the viewers feel the drama and fighting are nonsense. I enjoy seeing great designs and people that can work together.

I love your show, but am very disappointed in the way the show is editing Tracee. I have been a client of hers for over ten years. She has helped me with my Business and Home. I have LOVED everything she has designed for me. She has always been kind and respectful.
I also lived accross the street from her for a few years. Her family was wonderful and even her children were polite.
Tracee on many occasions has had me just take items from her shop home with me to try them out without having to commit until I made up my mind.
She is very generous.
She is very talented and I would NEVER consider going to another designer.
My experience along with my staff is that she does a wonderful job, has great vision and creativity and is ALWAYS Sweet and kind.

I love Design Star - Have been watching since the first season. But I have to admit my great disappointment that dear Scotty then d paul were the first 2 eliminated. I also agree that I'd never watch any show Tracee ever hosted! I don't see a true conspiracy, but the complaining and bickering are just awful! Very uncomfortable to watch. Weren't there 'rules' given to the contestants about cooperating being a necessary trait to a real 'Star'? It's fine to disagree about design elements, but but back-biting and name-calling are unprofessional in ANY field! And who dared to 'talk back' to Vern, of all people?!
Does anyone besides me also follow the Food Star competition that's on the Food Network, usually just before or after Design Star? The folks eliminated there were very obvious choices, supported by very good reasons by the judges.
Posted by Beverly – June 24, 2008 4:35 PM
I agree! What is up with Tracee and how did she make it this far!! She is horrible. Tracee did a way worse job than D. Paul. I believe you guys made the wrong choice in sending him away.
Who would I like to see in the top 3.. Michael, Matt, Trish. and if I could've had 4.. D. Paul!
Posted by Lisa – June 24, 2008 4:29 PM
Have watched every episode of Design Star from the beginning, have loved it, but this is by far the most disappointing episode. What were the judges thinking sending DPaul (aka DRock!)home? Why is Tracee still there? Sorry, but get in touch judges. Most of the world does not like Hollywood Glam, and those that do, wouldn't want to live with it. Seeing a black room with a bunch of mirrors is like watching a Paris fashion show. Interesting, but who is actually going to use that stuff? A very, very minute group of people. That is not the target audience. Truly, I think the whole format of this year's show is wrong. We barely get a look at their design process and don't get any better look at the finished product.
Kudos to Matt and Stephanie on repurposing their yard sale finds!
DPaul and Trish designed a very livable room.
I think Design Star owes DPaul another chance. Bring him back next year. (If there is a next year)
I could also live in Mikey and Stephanie's room.
Tracee and Jen's room...well, I've been to garage sales that looked better.
Posted by elledub – June 24, 2008 4:28 PM
Why did the Judges - or should I say PRODUCERS, keep Tracee? It's ratings, pure and simple. Offensive, disruptive, dramatic, antagonistic, and obnoxious reality show contestants are like negative political ads. They grab attention and keep people watching. The Producers keep Tracee to maintain good relations (a la $$$$$$) with the advertisers. Surely, in upcoming shows, the ratings will go through the roof as she cries and whines and reeks havoc all over the set. Then after all the histrionics are kaput, (i.e people will tire of it), then the Producers and Judges pick the next "Design Star", and throw HER under the bus.
Really now - the PRODUCERS along with the JUDGES have already selected the next "Design Star", even at this point of time. America does not pick the next "Design Star", they pick them for us. My question is this - has HGTV ever released the voting results?
Posted by Don – June 24, 2008 4:14 PM
Dump Mommy Dearest!
I think she has only survived the two eliminations for the drama/ratings she brings the show, with every other contestant hating her.
It's a cheap trick and two better designers left in her place. If she stays, I LEAVE.
Posted by mark – June 24, 2008 4:04 PM
I was disappointed in the choice of shows being cancelled both weeks. So far, few stand out as possible design stars. Tracee seems to stay around for the drama. Stephanie did better but what is it with her wanting to paint everything. Ruining the table the first week had me canceling her show in my mind.
Producers, if you need to come to a viewer's home, pick mine. I have a great room - LR, DR and kitchen with cathdral ceilings, stained concrete, horrible echos. I need all the help your designers can give me.

Have not missed one episode of the previous seasons - but this group seems so weak - something needs to give
Posted by carole – June 24, 2008 3:33 PM
Sorry Tracee, but you have got to go! NOW!
I cannot believe they sent D. Paul home over one incident with time management after what happened in the last show. This entire episode did anyone actually see Tracee doing work? She shopped for five hours then sat there and watched her teammate painting while stuffing her face. She carried in two ugly and I mean god aweful ugly chairs. Her partner pulled her through on this one and how they could send D Paul home is a mystery. At least his and Trish's room looked far better than the other one and he did work his butt off instead of stuffing his face, sleeping in the van and shopping all day.
Out of all of the same old boring designs this week I liked Trish's and D Paul's the best color and atmosphere wise. Creativity and meeting the challenge the best this episode goes to Matt hands down. Sorry but the last two episodes Matt has come through with the big ideas not Michael.
I think Design Star needs to go back to the same basics as the first two seasons if this is what a band of professionals do. I saw more talent in the first two seasons from non designers than I've seen out of every one of these people.
Vern, Cynthia and Martha please get rid of the whiny baby and keep yours, HGTV's and Design Star's integrity.
Posted by sienna – June 24, 2008 3:15 PM
Linda,
After reading your post I got to thinking, maybe Tracee's show would be good for laughs. She could design her tasteless room and when the clients hated it she could bawl and blame the clients?
Posted by arlie – June 24, 2008 3:07 PM
I agree with everyone else - get rid of Tracee - she is nothing but a whiner, trouble maker and a cry baby - make things right by bringing back D Paul and booting her bad behavior off - you are not making good ratings by doing that type of judging
Posted by Sherry – June 24, 2008 3:01 PM
First, let me say I am embarrassed to admit to being from KY, because Tracee surely has made that possible!! She absolutely should GO!!! I haven't been all that impressed with this year's contestants, or the show. I have to agree with a previous comment concerning one of the yard sale items being placed on a table. Even if trying to "repurpose" it into a planter, it was simply just lying on a table. And, it didn't even give full view to the item. It would have been viewed much more appreciatively having been a wall display. There were some gorgeous colors in the item. I did love the idea behind the repurpose of the half manequin. Very clever! Get rid of Tracee, and MAYBE the show will stand a chance of improving before the final decision is made.

There were more problems with the witch than with the ghosts. Too bad the ghosts didn't pool their resources and toss Tracee instead of stuff hanging on the wall.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Frances - this is the worst Design Star yet!! I loved the first season and adore David B. and his designs. Last season was OK, but not great. I've been disappointed in Kim and her Myles of not-so-much style. She was great on the show last year and by far the best designer and hostess, but her designs on her new show are not something I would even consider for my house.0
The new season is the "same 'ole, same 'ole." It's getting very predictable. Same challenges. Same types of personalities. Same judges. Same green room. I don't see any real talent in this bunch. They act like they've never put together a design board, must be color blind, and have absolutely no taste or imagination.
I'm not sure I can stomach the rest of the season. Being from Louisville I was all pumped to cheer for Tracee...wow, what a huge disappointment.
Posted by Lisa – June 24, 2008 1:59 PM
Matt Locke rocks! He is the BEST designer! Just look at his presentation board for the judges on the very first episode. He is amazingly organized and well spoken. If he doesn't win this I will be surprised. I wish we were able to vote for our designers like last season. Even if Matt wasn't from Colorado Springs I would still vote for him. Tracee needs to go and so do the rest of the cry babies. This is competition and not a day care!
Posted by GAIL SMITH – June 24, 2008 1:50 PM
I have to agree with the majority of comments regarding the fact that Tracee should have been the one to go! Not D Paul--he was honest and upfront about his time management blunder.
It is obvious Tracee has no true design brain cells!
Unlike some viewers though--this season is about the same as last season--I would not watch any of these designers with the exception of 2 of them--last season, I loved Josh Sparkle (Sparkle Josh) and at the end thought that Todd would actually have More in the long run to offer viewers than the winner does/did--in fact, I have never even watched that winner's show--I can't stand her personality!
Of course, I'm not sure any design winner or contestant can out-do David Bromstadt--I watch him whenever he is on--he is a fabulous designer and artist, plus he has the personality to make the whole show--he makes me smile and laugh & I just love him!
If one of the 2 contestants who I hope wins this year is sent home before the end of the contest, I, too, will no longer tune in to the show, because I won't watch the winner anyway!
Posted by Sawyer – June 24, 2008 1:35 PM
I don't care for the drama. I would like to see talent. So far, 2 have stood out Matt and Mikey V. They seem to be really nice guys. Season 1 paved the way for those designers who wanted to shine. I can't say the same thing for season 2. Not a fan of the winner. In my opinion, David Bromstad was the best product of DS. Matt and Mikey B reminds me of him. David was very professional and somewhat low key. We shall see how the upcoming episodes fan out.
I have to say that the way the production company is showcasing this season's show is somewhat like those bad reality shows. Please don't go that route. I have high regards for HGTV before but it is dwindling down really fast.

The only reason they kept Tracee is to boost the ratings because she is a trouble-maker. This was totally unfair to D Paul. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

Tracee needs to stay on the show so she can keep making an ass of herself....goodtimes.
Go ahead and set Matt Locke up with his own show...he has this thing won!
Posted by George in Nashville – June 24, 2008 12:17 PM
I feel cheated!!! The only reason D Paul got eliminated is because the show wants Tracee drama. The producers are using the drama for show interest and that is not fair. It is supposed to be about design. Sure D Paul didn't manage his time, but Tracee didn't manage her time either. She didn't even do as much as D Paul. I DVR the show so a friend and I can watch it together. I predicted the way the show would end! It reminded me of some of the stuff that happened last season. PRODUCERS DON'T BE REDUNDANDT!! We don't need the drama we want the design. The drama will come with the design! ! Tracee has no style, design, and she is way too difficult to work with. All unappealing traits
Posted by Karen – June 24, 2008 11:50 AM
Tracee does not appear to be able to design past garage sale "antiques" and a Sears showroom and is also unable to read a watch or clock. Why did the judges keep her? She should have been out first program. D Paul took responsibility for his design choices. He actually had design choices.
Are the judges/producers just keeping the "annoying one" for ratings? I maybe think so.

so far i'm a little disappointed desin star this season. i do kind of like the drama w/ tracee and am sure she will be out soon. michael seems like a trouble maker. matt looks like the standout designer so far, but i would have like to see more individual challenges so that we could weed out some of the less talented designers in the beginning, then move on to grouo challenges in order to see who we would watch and like on a regular basis. no way wold i ever vote for tracee or michael now that we have seen what they are like working with others. david and kim were always classy, friendly, hardworking and helpful. i think that is part of what makes them so nice to watch now, they seem like real people that i would invite over for drinks. not impressed with the talent so far, except for matt, but hopefully the individual challenges will start to show up what these designers are made of.
Posted by jph – June 24, 2008 11:34 AM
Tracee should have gone the first week. For her to still be on the show has shown me that I will no longer be watchng HGTV, if this is who they would consider for a host to one of their shows. Even if they wanted her for a "little more drama" they are treating their audiences like idiots. We DON'T like her or her attitude or her designs.
I have always loved Vern and his ideas and designs, but he truly disappointed me this week. If this continues, I have finished with hgtv.
Posted by Shirley – June 24, 2008 11:34 AM
Can't we have one season of Design Star where the emphasis is more on "Design" and less on "Star" (or someone who thinks they are a star)? Of course, you want someone with a personality and who looks good on camera. While I didn't agree with the choice of Kim as the winner last year I was thrilled that she was not a skinny, white, over-made up model type like Chayce Dacoda. At least she was a team player, a hard worker and she had some really clever ideas. I think she's crafty in an elegant way. David Bromstad was the best choice possible on season one and I never miss his show. But this year? I think 3 of the contestants have any potential at all. It's really sad. And PLEASE HGTV. NO MORE DRAMA QUEENS OF EITHER SEX. So sick of that kind of waste of time. This week is last chance for this show. Hope someone steps up and Tracee goes home. Or how about one of those double eliminations and send Michael with her??

Don't you see why they are not getting of Tracee. Ratings! She is a drama queen, rude, an emotional wreck, and her designs are tasteless. They should have given D-Paul another chance. Yes, he spent too much time on trying to make the ceiling look lower but was that really an excuse to send him home packing??????????
Posted by Gwen – June 24, 2008 10:51 AM
Tracee talked a really good game at first, but she has not lived up to her words. Maybe on her own with plenty of time, but not as a team player. D.Paul was the wrong one to go. The judges were too critical of the dark green lounge. Frequently I'm surprised at the judges' comments.

I wish I had tried out. The group that is currently in the game should be sent home, not one new idea. By the way I teach math, this season does not add up. maybe the concept has run its course.

I don't think Tracee is professional and was very dissappointed she remains. I suppose it's great for the drama of the show but D. Paul should not have gone. Another week of Tracee, if she doesn't go this week, I won't be watching again.

Season 3 doesn't seem to have any one designer that stands out from the rest. I think we all know that Season 1 with David Bromstad had the VERY BEST designer. HGTV lucked out having David win. When can he come and do my great room? Give the show a twist by having David work in Florida for one episode. I'm open!!!!!

Judges made a huge mistake cancelling D.Paul's show. Tracee needs to go now. I hope the judges reconsider their decision to cancel Tracee's show & bring D.Paul back.

For all the promise of the most talented bunch of designers ever I'm just not seeing it. Maybe the most dramatic ever! Cut the drama and up the design. I haven't been blown away at all this year.I realize that you producers equate conflict with watchability, but it's called Design Star, not Drama Queen. Get rid of that little instigator Michael and DQ Tracee and show some individual designs and let the results speak for themselves.
Posted by KimM – June 24, 2008 8:05 AM
wow..seriously?! tracee shouldve been eliminated. I feel bad that everyones pickin on her but dang, that room looked jacked up lol.

I am stunned, Tracee should have been the one to go!!! Tracee is not a very nice person; she disappeared when the work got to be too hard and was able to sleep while the others were working hard. I think that the fact that she doesn't have her design books and computer to give her ideas that that is probably why she doesn't know what to do. It is obvious to me that without her "crutches" she has no sense of style or creative muse. I assure you that she is NOT going to be the next design star; most people I have talked to about the show don't like her, so that amounts to NO viewers for the show. I hope that next week we all get to hear Clive say the words: Tracee, your show has been canceled!

Ditto ditto ditto! - get Tracee off the show!!!!
I'm so disappointed in Design Star. A design host should be creative, diplomatic, and charismatic. So we ask Why is Tracee still on the show? Many people are scratching their heads. Tracee should have gone the first week. My husband and I feel she's been kept around purely for the "drama" factor. I feel the first two seasons were judged fairly and in sync with the course of the challenges. While this season has taken a 180º turn with the first two eliminations being completely unwarranted. Tracee is rude, unlikeable, and a drama queen. And, for some reason, believes (or at least acts) like she is better than everyone else. She has not shown much talent, canNOT work with others, and is just plain mean-spirited. I think Design Star would be a much better and honest show if they steered away from pure drama for ratings. Can we please leave that to other reality shows! Please!!!???!!!

I don't usually watch reality shows because of the bickering, plotting and fighting. I gave this one a try because I thought the designs might be interesting. I really don't see that Tracee has done anything to deserve all the grief that she is getting. Michael is a little instigator and I can't wait for him to leave. He spends his time causing trouble and pitting people against each other. He's not winning my vote for anything except to leave...soon. I think the fighting will stop when he is gone and then maybe we can see some real designing get started. So far Matt seems to be flying below the radar and just concentrating on the task at hand. I am most disappointed in Vern. I can't believe the cruel things that he saying to the contestants. Don't think I want to watch his show anymore. I have noticed over the years that Vern always does his rooms with dark dramatic colors and fabrics and lots of candles. Michael seems to always do his rooms in dark dramatic colors and Vern always thinks they are wonderful. Hummm. I am from the Nashville area. Oaklawn is a fine old southern home and the black did not belong in there. It was not consistant with the integrity or style of the home. It looked more like an urban loft. Maybe when everyone has to pull off their own designs, we'll start seeing what the designers are really made of.

Look, Tracee is being ganged up on in the worst way. It only took Michael one day to have everyone against her. now he can sit back and watch as everyone jumps Tracee. He is the trouble maker. I would be hurt to if I were away from family and loved ones and into this big production to find that everyone was against me. I would be very hurt. So when she does take offence and take up for herself she is a witch. Whats up with that? Tracee I got your back!!

I, also, can't believe that they kept TracEEK another week!! She's horrible! I'm sure the producers made the final call to keep her around for a little extra drama. Listen folks, if i need a little drama I turn on 'Desperate Housewives'. I want DESIGN so I turn on HGTV!! Remember please producers who your target audience is!
I agree with an earlier comment, the host makes the show! I love 'Myles of Style' because Kim is both a great designer and has loads of personality. She also designs for everyday people. I have to admit that when David's show first came on I thought he was a little boring... but I kept watching because he is so good and now he's gotten more comfortable in front of the camera and it's better! The purpose of the show is to find a great new designer with some hosting skills. If you send home good designers (D. Paul)and keep the tacky ones (TracEEK) for dramatic purposes then you don't give the good designers time to get comfortable and prove they have skills!!
There I've said my piece, as Granny would say! Have a blessed day!

I am already disappointed in this year's Design Star. Last year lots of viewers suggested that this year you start out the first couple of episodes with individual projects so that we could see what the contestants could do on their own before putting them in groups. One of the episodes that I enjoyed and remember the most was from the first year when each individual decorated a room and everything they bought came from the Dollar Store. There was some really creative thought and beautiful rooms from people who were talented but not overbearing or aggressive. It seems in the group projects, there is one person who makes the decisions and everyone else goes along. So far there doesn't seem to be much collaborating. Just once I would like HGTV to listed to their viewers.

Man....not sure if I'm going to continue watching if this Tracee chick stays on there...if I want to watch overinflated, egomaniac cat fights, I'll go watch the Hills or some other crap like that. I know these shows are edited to make the contestants look how HGTV wants them to, but even still...Tracee is bringing the entire show down...she is obnoxious and spends more time talking about how great she instead of proving it! I want to see these designers given challenges that aren't so overwhelming that they can't really show their true ideas and talents.

This season is nothing like the first season. David Bromstad, was great from the get go that year, love watching his show!!! The first year they helped each other, were not back stabbing, the reason I enjoyed watching it. This year is like every other reality show, the reason I do not watch any of them. With whiners like Tracee not willing to take responsibility for her actions and all the tears from so many of them, the last show may be my last for this year. D Paul was willing to admit he made a mistake, big mistake to let him go.

I didn't like any of the rooms that they did in the mansion. I thought this was supposed to be the best group of designers ever and so far I have'nt cared for anything they have done. I keep waiting for someone to do a room that I will love but so far it has'nt happened. I am very dissapointed in this season so far.

What is the deal with "designers" doing all the physical work? Show me a real designer, someone who makes a professional living as one that is, buttering tiles and sawing lumber and I will eat my hat. That's not what they pay us for and all the schooling earns you. You need to know the craftsmen to do that work for you to your specifications and that is a big service to bewildered clients. You need to WOW them with what you know how to achieve and give them what they want and need in the professional manner your profession strives to achieve. You must make the most of the space, watch code matters carefully, & if possible make sure your design is as "green" as possible.Carpenters should be billed at their professional rate just as the designer should. It's a profession folks with professional risks and responsibilites! Yes it's a wonderful occupation and doesn't usually feel like work when it's our second nature but it is work and should be done in a way that honors yourself as well as your professional organizations. Keeping your current state licence and CEU's up to date is vitally important to the publics safety.

I believe this year there is a mole on the show to destory everyones talent and her name is TRACEE!!!!!!!!! HELLOOO judges are you three not seeing what we are all seeing? I cannot believe she did not get sent home tonight, she bought 2 chairs, set out a candy dish wow, compared to what D.Paul did alesast he tried and used his imagnation!!!!!

I think the judges sent the wrong person home again this week. D. Paul's room was much better than the room Tracee worked on and Tracee has serious personality issues. A Design Star is going to have to be someone people like, so we watch the show. It's clear she's out of the running, so get rid of her. D. Paul's room was an updated version of the club room, while Tracee came home with her grandmother's chairs to go with a stone table, and held up production by not even realizing what time it was. The judges didn't even give a "design" reason for sending D. Paul home instead of Tracee, so I can't even give them the nod because they're the experts. Two weeks in a row. Three strikes and I put a block on this show and that of the ultimate winner. There are enough good design shows to watch; no need to watch this train wreck. Clive deserves better. I'm so disappointed in this show. I didn't even like one of Vern's designs on a recent Deserving Design, and I almost always like his work. Something's going downhill with him and this show.

I just watched a rerun from lastnight's show. The judges comments were so negative about Tracee, yet their vote totally contradicted their opinions. I DEMAND A RECOUNT!!!!!!!!!

I really wish this show would not fall into the pattern of keeping the contestants who make for the 'best TV', which they are OBVIOUSLY doing. I really dislike reality TV and competitions and watch this show for the focus on design and creativity. It is SOOOO apparent that you are kicking off people based on what you think will keep up the ratings. For those I know watching the show, we get angry and tend to stop watching when those we don't like remain on the show. Though Scottie's room was terrible, he did stick to his ideas, and there was no reason to send D. Paul home even though his creativity has not yet been showcased. Both could have come out more and could have at least helped some really great things happen. There were certainly others who could have gone home in the earlier stages. Also, it seems the contestants portfolios, etc., go into initial decisions. If so, the audience should be informed of this. In future seasons, please start making final decisions based on performance and effective interpersonal behavior instead of predicted ratings success and what you perceive to be more exciting tv.

I agree with Susan! I was shocked to see D Paul leave. He is right...he should be out there with the group and not on his way home. What kills me is that during the critique, the judges had a lot of negative things to say about Tracee's design choices (from the furniture to the accessories she picked). Everything about the room they disliked was brought in by Tracee. D Paul was humble about his mistakes, certainly had great potential and drive to correct them and overall he has better taste than Tracee (my personal opinion). The results from this show were certainly disappointing.

After months of waiting anxiously for the new season of Design Star, I'm really disappointed in what has been on so far. Sending home D Paul and keeping Tracee was a huge shock. Who were the judges discussing for taking more than her share of the credit and not having any design style? There have been a few moments of creative design, a very few, but even I have those moments. With the exception of Matt's bedroom solution, there hasn't been anything to make you say the magic word....wow. I'm hoping when the designers begin to work individually the real talent will emerge and those that deserve to be there will go on.

Listen up HGTV: WE DON"T WANT CATFIGHTS--WE WANT GOOD DESIGN AND PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO WORK LIKE PROFESSIONALS! Please take note or you will end up losing a lot of viewers like myself who are frustrated with the bickering.
Posted by Beth – June 23, 2008 10:01 PM
my opinion seems to mirror many others...if Tracee doesn't go soon I'm through with this season of Design Star. It amazes me that this batch of designers doesn't seem to be able to sketch their ideas so the team-mates can get on the "same page" before they go screaming through the stores hunting for the "inspiration"...it seems to me that may eliminate some of the cat fights and bickering, something we could all do without! Let's hope the judges start to see that
the whole country isn't looking for inspiration from the most far-out designs these contestants can come up with...give us something we would be comfortable living with, something with class like Candace Olson would dream up, not shades of Hildi from Trading Spaces.
Posted by Diane – June 23, 2008 9:46 PM
D Paul would have made a much better host for his ownow than most of what I've seen on there so far. The season is off to a rocky start to say the least. First two shows, and bad choices kicked off for both. Are we looking for talent? Or is this just all about the drama. Seems the Judges aren't looking at the same things they're showing on TV. Too bad, the show's been entertaining in the past. Looks like this season is a bust already.
Posted by Gary – June 23, 2008 9:44 PM
I have watched the first 2 seasons and am so disappointed in season 3. With the exception of Matt and maybe the "Mikes" there are no good designers at all. Where did the show get these people from? Must not have had a lot of talent to choose from. And why is Tracee still on the show. Would anyone honestly watch her for a 1/2 on a show of her own?!!! Granted Kim Myles did not have any formal training but her show is great and she is great on camera. And David from Season 1 is of course a superstar in design and hosting.
Maybe HGTV should pull a "Survivor" trick and have some of the cancelled designers from the first two seasons come back to compete.
The living room designs were all so boring and predictable. I thought he was crazy but where is Todd (Season 2) when you need him. Hope it gets better.
Posted by Diane – June 23, 2008 9:41 PM
What with the Judges? Tracee should have gone home for the 2nd week in a row! I can't believe that either Scottie's or D-Pau's shows were cancelled over Tracee's. So far it seems that the judges are rewarding either Drama or unprofessionalism and whinning.
Posted by Martha – June 23, 2008 9:31 PM
I echo what the others have said about this season's episodes. Traci should have been gone the first week, it seems she is left only to give the show something to talk about. I waited one whole week to watch that disapointing episode. They needed more than the gargage sale items, my kids could have designed those rooms.
Posted by peggy – June 23, 2008 9:30 PM
I love this show and hate it, too.
This past week's challenge was a cream puff. I liked the room that was criticized as a man's room. Like a man doesn't like to sit in a beautiful room of natural and earth colors? (like I am right now). The black room was really beautiful, but I would grow tired of living in it.
Tracee and Jennifer's room was OK. The color choice was blah. Tracee obviously doesn't do well in a group, but most of this group gets pretty *itchy when something does go their way.
Michael is a busybody. Just stirring stuff up and reall enjoys it. Knows how to work the camera, too. I wouldn't let him in my house. I'll bet even his friends have learned to watch their backs.
Matt, so far, is the only one I would let in my house. And Stephanie. Stephanie has great ideas, but we haven't seen that great idea from her yet. But she gets more out of what's there than most. And she is so darn cute!
Trish is the dark horse. She has the show hosting quality but really needs to score some points with the judges in the coming week or two. And stay out or Michael's way and not get caught up in the soap opera the network is insistent on perpetuating!
Jennifer looks pretty average so far. Don't think she will ever host a show, but could be a great sidekick to the winner.
This show could go either way. If Matt, Step, and Trish don't go pretty darn far, I'm gone. They need to make this more like American Idol and a lot less like Survivor!!

What's with the Judges? Tracee's show should have been the first to be cancelled! I like designers that take a risk, but it looks like so far this season all that the Judges are rewarding are unprofessional and whiny designers. Come on judges...I thought you had better taste!

Did I miss something? Why is Tracee still there?? She blames others for problems and is obviously not a team player. My only hope is that the judges are clueless to her unprofessional behavior, maybe next week she will be gone. Bring D. Paul back!!!!!! Atleast he was knowledgable!
Posted by Pam – June 23, 2008 8:32 PM
Vern Yip is one of the best designers and has a wonderful personality. The other 2 judges need to get in touch with the real people in the real world. Firstly, designers can estimate how long it will take to do a project and aren't expected to do it all alone in 2 days. Secondly, they work with the homeowner to incorporate their likes and preferences, and thirdly they have teams to do the painting, carpentry, ect.
D Paul did mismanage his time but he did try and he worked his heart out. His room was beautiful. Plus he has heart and is a team player. Totally wrong cancel his show. Tracee, on the other hand, is a total brat. She whines and cries and is a drama queen. She did nothing to help her partner. If viewers want brats we can watch the soap operas. The cry baby needs to go.
Give these contestants doable projects, not yard sale junk. Judges are you looking for real designers for real people or ratings for cat fights. Not all of us want Hollywood glitz and glamor and we sure aren't watching for drama and spoiled, no talent whiners.
Show us some real teamwork and tastful design. Get rid of Tracee or alot of viewers will be leaving.

Okay, Tracee is apparently the instigate in the process, she reminds me of Lacey in "Rock of Love". Michael is a little too cocky to be a design star! I am anxious to see if he can do anything by himself. Righ
