Kim loves the white room challenge, but agrees with the judges — no one stood out this year like David and Todd did in past seasons.

I think this design star is great! It is more exciting than the other seasons and the people seem more genuine. I feel like Traceeeeee causes problems. The comment(s) about the group setting Tracee up must have come from Tracee's mom. She seems great, as a midwest high school design teacher. But that's about it. The others (Matt and Jennifer and most of the time Trish---though the ring bit was a little trite, but that could be due to editing). All in all, Jennifer and Matt.... I would LOVE to watch their shows! And see them as team leaders!!! Then we should talk about the success of this season!

I think this the worst season yet of design star. Last years and the years before was the best, Kim and David was the best two design the show has had these design are garbage they can't design. In my opinion I think you need new judges because if they think any of these design have talent you're nut I vote next season you get different judges with a little more talent

I have to agree with the consensus of those who have already posted, Design Star this year is a disappointment. I keep looking for the designer who will really step up and out to shine like a true designer! We are down to 3 remaining and I haven't seen any stars yet. Maybe next week.
This time, it seems like there are lame challenges resulting in lame designs. Last year was sooo much better!

I have to agree with many of the other posters so far who have stated there really is not a lot of talent on the show this year. It really seems to have sunk down to the "high drama" of reality TV. I find this really sad. It bothers me that so much of the competition is focused on individual personalities rather then individual talent. I would like to see the team challenges go away as well. In Design Star there is becoming a pattern of the least liked person getting sabotaged on these challenges when they are team leader. Did not like Tracee's design set or her personality, but it was obvious no one was going to help her with this challenge and wanted it to fail. For that alone the powers that be need to rethink their challenges and start creating more individual challenges to allow the real talent to be judged and not personalities as the primary focus.
I do not see much talent this year on Design Star and really am not routing for anyone as I had in the past 2 seasons. A real shame because the concept of this show is a great one. Next year if the talent is as mediocre as it is this year, I won't torture myself to continue watching.

I am very disappointed that Mikey V. was eliminated tonight. The fact that he needs some work on his hosting skill was insufficient reason to eliminate him. David Bromstad's hosting was not that good when he won, but with coaching he became better. Design skill is what is being judged; the hosting can be taught, encouraged, enhanced through coaching. I agree with everyone that Tracee should have been eliminated weeks ago. Thank God, it happened tonight. The show is more like a soap opera than a real design talent search. My preference is to do away with these silly design challenges with the team approach and allow the designers the opportunity to design meaningful spaces individually. They should be competing against each other with their individual designs.

I believe that right from the start of this Kitchen competition, Tracee did not get any cooperation from the designers. She was trying to prepare a plan and no designers were interested, so of course this made her look bad. I think this is what the other designers had planned for her to leave. I am not saying that she was the best designer, but she was mistreated by all of the designers, especially the designer with the ring situation. Both her and the blondie kept showing negative facial expressions. This kitchen was doomed from the start with no team work from any of the designers. Last week she was a part of a team with trish and Mickey that was a success because they worked as a team. I think that if all of the designers had worked together and let Tracee be the leader this Kitchen would have been a beautiful kitchen for the family. I know how it feels when you want to put forth your ideas and you are not being heard. You start fumbling with your word and I know this is probably what happened to Tracee. I don't think Tracee should have been sent home. I know she was trying to defend herself, and she had good reason to do this. Good for you Tracee for standing your ground.

After reading many of the posts, the general consensus is that this seasons "Design Star" is a disappointing wash, and HGTV needs to be more accountable in their programming. It seems the focus is centered on derisive personality traits and crying tantrums rather than ANYTHING that has to do with real design and creativity. There is so much raw and exciting talent available, so why this? It makes me more than a little suspicious of this thing called ratings and keeping up with "Reality Show" mentality of programming. Design Star began with much deserved praise, and now it is like watching it do a long slow death march. Speaking of, that is what should befall those responsible for taking this show down. Let the producers follow all of this years candidates through the door "Your Show has Been Cancelled."
Posted by Jeannie B. – July 11, 2008 12:47 PM
I find it interesting that Tracee has not been cancelled. Her design skills are questionable at best. It is also clear that she does not have the people skills or personality to work as a team leader and host on a design show. Is she being kept around for the drama factor? I'm beginning to question the overall integrity of the show.

I agree. Tracy should have been let go on the
first episode.
Also., I dont think we have seen Matt, or Trish
shine yet. I'm rooting for them both!

Eh, these guys aren't too good this year...why is Tracee still here? Please go home.
Posted by Brittany – July 8, 2008 6:09 PM
I think this group of "designers" and their (lack of) talent is right about par for what we've seen from Design Star so far. Take David's talent (LOVE me some David!) and then compare it to Kim's. (sadly overrated is Ms. Myles) Given the pattern, this season's Design Star will be better suited to designing high school prom venues.
SNAP! That means that next season I can send my Great-Aunt Novella to audition and she'll have the entire country sitting on sticky vinyl furniture and eating off of metal folding TV trays!
Posted by Lis – July 7, 2008 1:39 AM
Tracee needs to go - what she did looked like a Brothel. Yes she took a chance but not the right one. Gaudy would never be a word I would use to describe any design in a good way.
Posted by KittyB – July 6, 2008 9:57 PM
In rewatching last weeks episode, I have to agree, none of the designs were stand out awesome.Tracee's was cartoonish, Matt's was a disappointment, the rest were mediocre or average at best.Michael was too immature to be a design star, hes just not ready, beside watching him waste time checking out everyone else's rooms just annoyed me.This show is also about personalities, composure and grace under pressure. In my book, that will narrow the playing field to Matt, Mikey V and Jennifer.Lets see what happens over the next couple of weeks.
Posted by sue – July 6, 2008 6:21 PM
I'm so glad that little two-faced crybaby Michael and his chicken lips have gone home to mommy. To think Tracee even cried with him when he was booted off the show. She has been marked as the villain of the piece, but at least her room looked like Italy, not some generic upscale gay lounge.
Posted by bob – July 6, 2008 6:17 PM
Tracee - GO HOME and learn how to interact with others. WHAT A DRAMA QUEEN YOU ARE!!!! You should have been booted off 3 weeks ago. Is this show for real or another play it up to the ratings? Worst season so far.
Posted by EAA – July 6, 2008 12:00 PM
I'm actually very disappointed in this season. Initially the judges stated "the bar has been lifted" "most talented design stars ever" How can they compare this bunch with David and Kim? I haven't seen it. We have a couple of builders and a few tastelss prima donna's. Nothing I've seen thus far would make me want to watch in a new show. This is just pitiful.
Posted by Chrystal – July 6, 2008 7:58 AM
I loved watching Design Star, so tell me why is this season leaving a bad taste in my mouth? Drama, cut throat, back stabbing, and negativity certainly don't make for good design, just a run of the mill talk show. No one stood out with their design in the white room, could it be no one was allowed to express themselves as designers with a fixed theme. Martha, Vern, Cindy, and Clive, trash those scripts and bring back the fun and creativity before your viewers trash you.
Posted by Lana – July 5, 2008 11:17 PM
I was confused on why the judges were against Mickey V's room, when the whole idea was to bring a country into it...that was pretty much the only room where I felt like I saw the country. So if thats not what they were wanting, then they should've explained themselves more.
And ditto to the whole Tracee go home...I feel like Im watching a reality tv show. Very immature/unprofessional.
Posted by Lyndsie – July 5, 2008 4:34 PM
The group this year - well, which ever one is "chosen" should probably have some mentoring from a really good designer. Kim and David, I watch their shows all the time. Creativity at its best! I agree with others, it is time for some new judges. How about someone who specializes in design for homes? Not fashion or beauty. How about a real challenge? A real home - with real people - who live real lives. High end design is great, but most of us can't afford the high end stuff. Design Star - it is time to kick it up a notch or three. The show is supposed to reflect the talent of up and coming good designers - not be a night time soap opera.
Posted by Ri – July 5, 2008 3:13 PM
I think few of these folks could have stood up to the five years of critiquing we received in architectural school. What babies!!!
Bad choice of judges. None of them, including Vern, seem very serious in their assessments.
And the ignorance! Doesn't anyone (including the judges) have any design history in their background?
Both Thailand and Mexico are cultures of color...lots and lots of color...bright colors. (I would have shopped for all the gold paint and colored materials I could get my hands on!) I have visited Thailand and didn't seen any "Zen" simplicity there. Doesn't that belong in Japan? If I didn't know anything about the culture I was assigned, I would have whipped out my laptop and at least done a quick tour via the internet while driving to Michael's.
I think Tracee should have been the first to go and Scotty given another opportunity. Bad, judges! Bad, bad, bad! I think the blond fellow should have been the second to go...a jack-in-the-box is he! Nothing stable and steady about him. It takes consistency and focus to perform good design.
That's it then: poor judging, too many immature contestants. Better luck next year.

My husband and I both thought it was a mistake to boot Michael. I thought his room was nice, even though the judges dident. I think he has a lot of potiential. I thought the yellow flowery room that the judges "liked" was awful, and Tracys room was a joke. I agree with the person who said I wouldent hire Tracy to design my DOGS house. The Buddhist Temple room was a bust too, yet Michael got sent home I dont get it. ! You guys at HGTV have lousy taste. I have no Idea how Kim Myles got on TV. I am a realtor in California and see different houses every day and, wouldent reccomend her to anybody. Her designs are terrible.
Michael - you can come design in my house anytime. Tracy needs to go home.

What's happening? Design Star was a unique show showcasing designer talent? It feels more like reality tv. Is that why Tracee is still on? Judges get real, stand behind real design. Don't cave in to what tv wants for ratings. You said it right, when you said no one stood out. However, the designers should also be judged on their attitude etc..another reason I can not understand why Tracee is still there. Michael's attitude was not any better. I have seen only one designer have a GOOD and positive attitude and that is Matt. He seems always ready to dig in to a project. Designers need to step up to the plate and be real adults. I hope season 3 turns around with the challenges.

I love HGTV. It's nearly the only thing I watch. I am disappointed by Design Star or maybe I just don't understand what the requirements are. I have no idea why Tracee is still on the show. She has a horrible attitude, doesn't get along with anyone and cries all the time. How could anyone even consider making her a dsign star? She is not a star in any sense of the word.

Maybe they need to start all over again with a group of new designers.....I would not want any of them coming over to my house...I could do better....I am just going to watch one more show to see if they do any better if not I might just stop watching...
Posted by Sue – July 4, 2008 5:58 PM
Given this latest group of contestants I do not think that any of them should have their own design show. There is not one person here who I would hire to design any room in my home. Given the caliber of talent in the first two seasons I just can't even take this season's designers seriously. I certainly cannot watch these train wrecks week after week and I would not watch any design show hosted by the ( ha ha ) winner.
Posted by Cassie – July 4, 2008 12:37 PM
Big mistake. While Michael's room didn't capture the feeling of his country, neither did several of the other contestants' rooms, so that in and of itself should not be the reason he was sent home. Tracee's room was awful: very poorly contructed (note the flopping gondola post) and ill conceived (painting a chandelier on the wall and then gluing crystals on it-you've got to be kidding me!). The worst "white room" design I've seen so far and the poor thing couldn't even see that it was bad. I want to see the best go up against the best in the finales and that won't happen if the judges don't make better decisions. What in the world was their motivation for this choice? Shameful. I don't know if I'll watch anymore.
Posted by Isabel – July 4, 2008 11:19 AM
Tracee is being kept for the drama. I know her type. She's not being kept for her abilities, nor for her potential.
Michael was being a real underhanded troublemaker. Not nice. If only for that reason he had to go. No one could trust him. What kind of person would that be to work with on a show?
I am still hoping that someone will just come through with some great design soon.
Posted by Teresa – July 4, 2008 2:24 AM
I can't believe that Tracee is still in the running! She should have been xxed two weeks ago and D.Paul should have stayed. I think he of all of them has great design ideas. TBSS.

None of the designers is worth it ,no imagination and no talent ...I love the show ,but hait the designers .How did you pick them ?
I am sure regular people can do better designs ,maybe it should be your next show !
Posted by Mireille – July 3, 2008 8:04 PM
I agree. This season's Design Star contestants do not seem to have the design talent of previous competitions and certainly do not have the consideration and cooperation of last year's group. Although last season's group were in competition, they seemed to genuinely want to help one another succeed and admire the work each of the others did. This group lacks the friendliness that was so attractive with last year's group.
Posted by Rita – July 2, 2008 11:26 PM
This year's White Room Challenge was different with the very difficult-to-work-with futon, mattress-y things instead of the more traditional furniture pieces of the last two seasons. I don't think anyone could do much with those foam bits; there wasn't much room for repurposing like there was with the couch, coffee, table and shelves in the other shows. I still think that the designers will have the chance to show their stuff!
Posted by Emily – July 2, 2008 11:17 PM
I cant believe Michael went home instead of Tracee! Are you kidding????? Tracee's work always look like it was done by a 5 year old

Great list for judges:
Candace Olsen, David Bromstad and Lisa LaPorta.
We want to see rooms we would want in our own homes...Candace does the most fantastic designs ever....David's decorating is always right on and Lisa LaPorta is just a breath of fresh air and with a very tiny budget, she always comes up with good results.
Posted by Nancy – July 2, 2008 8:46 AM
I don't know how others feel, but Kim judging the recent group of designers is just WRONG. Kim has a nice personality, but her rooms AND her show are just awful. Kim is the worst designer I've seen on HGTV and I wouldn't have her decorate my walk in closet. David Bromstad was the best choice when he won. He is a wonderful decorator and his show is very enjoyable. There's always something one can copy in their own decorating in David's designs.
Having said all that.......the designers on "Design Star" now are the worst ever.
The people in charge of the content need to remember that the people watching want to see rooms they would want in their own homes. Instead we are getting rooms done to surprise and astound the judges....in other words WEIRD.
Let's see something the viewer would want and a designer we would want to hire.

Michael's room was nice, although not to his usual standards, and WHY did they keep Tracee AGAIN! She should have been the first to leave
Posted by Robyn – June 30, 2008 9:22 PM
Is this for real? I'm beginning to think it's all fake. Why in the world would Tracee still be on the show? I would never hire a designer or watch a show who would get angry because I didn't agree with her. Tracee, lose the attitude!
Posted by Jackie Howell – June 30, 2008 7:51 PM
I must apoligise for my mis-conception that this show (Design Star) was about taking people and pitting them against each other to find the "best" designer and the "best" host. I now come to the realization that you already know who is going to win this years show. Which, makes me think that I have been duped for two years now. The appearance is you have no desire to get the "best of the best" but rather to just get drama and ratings. Design Star did NOT play at my home this week and it will NOT play at my home again. I am SO disappointed that this is just another attempt to fool the American public into thinking that they actually have a say in who can or will win. Now I believe that the first year of this "show" may have been real, but NONE of the others have. Looks like I will watch re-runs of Law and Order before I EVER watch HGTV again. Thank you for letting me rant, I will miss some of the programing, such as "designed to Sell" this WAS one of my favorite shows.
Posted by Michael – June 30, 2008 6:43 PM
Do we have a design star this year? I erroneiously hoped the white room challenge would inspire me. Can we let them do another?
This season the contestants were all professional designers. Why are the judges expecting out-of-the-box thinking when all of the contestants have been trained and have had experience creating living spaces with in-the-box logic? Many of the designs have been exactly what a traditional homeowner would enjoy - beautiful, relaxing, clean lines and wll thought out placement of furniture.
A surprise ending could be that the final 2 desingers will have to compete against Todd from last year. So the final round would be 3, not 2 competitors.
And please consider not keeping Tracey just to keep turmoil in the show. HGTV has always been above that "Geraldo Sensationalization". Please keep it that way.
Thanks

Michael got the boot because nothing in his room, nice as it was, said Spain.
The judges felt he didn't follow instructions.
Posted by vicky thomas – June 30, 2008 6:28 PM
OKay, we must remember that the room had to have a "feel" of the particular country each designer had. A "feel" can be interpreted many ways, but that room with the raggedy cutout gondola, the grossly adorned painted chandelier, and goofy mirror made me "feel" like I was revisiting my senior prom. And as I remember, I think we had less time to do it. VERY unprofessional. At least the room that michael did was usable. What were we supposed to do in that cartoon set of Tracey? I hope she never comes to my home to decorate. With a few adjustments, Michael's room could have been all it should have been. It was probably the cleanest of all the designs. I think the judges are eliminating those with the weakest personalities first. You have to bite your lip when dealing with those who don't like your work. And he'll find that true as the years pass. But he could always be a guest on any of the shows. I've seen some real bombs on "Design on a Dime."
PS. Could I get Steve Hanniman's autograph?
Posted by Mickey – June 30, 2008 3:44 PM
I can't believe the immaturity of the contestants on this show. Now we get this Michael getting the boot and crying for his mommy. All this cry baby stuff has turned me off of this program. Gee, I have no design talent, am out of shape but at least could get a few laughs.
Posted by crankehank – June 30, 2008 1:52 PM
Keeping Tracee on the show was a big mistake. So far all she has done is prove what a bad designer she is. This year the group as a whole is not as clever or creative as last years group. NO ONE STANDS OUT!!

I have been very disappointed with this year's contestants. This was especially made clear with the "white room" challenge. Compared to last year the rooms were all unfinished/uninspired. Many of the designers barely addressed the walls, the inspiration themes didn't seem thought out at all, etc. etc. When I think about todd's "thinking outside the box" and kim's creative wall treatments the comparison between the two groups of contestants is very stark. For goodness sake the losing designer last season lost because she had too much in the room. These designers barely had anything! I couldn't believe how easy the judges were on them. This is the third challenge and I have yet to see a 1/4 of the inventive design that was offered on season 2.
Posted by jade – June 30, 2008 1:30 PM
There are a lot of comments about how Tracee should be gone but I think she's squeaked by as the second worst every week now. Michael's design did look better than Tracee's but he got to choose his country, picked a place that he had been to before, then didn't deliver a room that evoked a feeling of that place. D Paul spent forever on those moldings and didn't consider at all how to put that bow into the room which was the point of the challenge. Scottie was so busy designing that he didn't take into consideration how the room would be used... you just cant make 2 people who barely know each other sleep toe to toe.
So basically to everyone screaming about Tracee still being around calm down. I'm sure that even the judges know that as soon as people start balancing the challenge with decent design and function we will see Tracee go.
Posted by Andrew – June 30, 2008 12:45 PM
I agree with Mike! With the exception of Vern Yip. Those other two judges are just as crappy as most of the designers. I'd love to see what their homes look like! GO HOME TRACEE, your'e such a drama queen. You aren't trying to win an Oscar! Design Star is much like watching "Survivor".
Posted by JoAnn – June 30, 2008 11:47 AM
This is the worst group of people that have been chosen!!! Not one designer I've seen so far would make me want to hire or watch any of them on TV. Tracey should have been history a long time ago -if nothing else for her attitude! There is entirely too much emotion (whether it's real or put on for the show). Not one person is showing any professionalism. People without training could do better designs. No design or designer is standing out this year. Watch out HGTV or no one will look forward to or want to watch Design Star next year.

I enjoy hearing your comments Kim. As always, you are gracious and diplomatic! This challenge was disappointing. Perhaps I expected too much after last season, but it was disheartening to see how this episode played out. I'm hoping Matt does better next week. I truly hope Michael is able to learn and grow from his DesignStar experience. I like Mikey and his ideas. Trish's designs are predictable and boring. Stephanie is somewhere over the rainbow. Tracee is a soap opera. Jennifer seems well-grounded and I hope she shines next week. I just wish someone would step up and WOW us.
Posted by Iris – June 30, 2008 10:24 AM
I still cannot get over the fact that Tracee is still in contention. Her designs fall flat and her crying is enough to make me want to open an artery. Mickey V, Trish,Jennifer and Matt are the only 4 I see with any kind of talent so far. Stephanie needs to get booted off the show just for the sheer fact of wanting to paint everything she sees. I'm glad Michael is gone, little pot stirrer without any talent. Having said all this, I will continue to watch because it's fun and there are some good ideas.
Posted by Leb – June 30, 2008 8:32 AM
I know what they were thinking. They were thinking that Tracee is the best "love-to-hate" character on TV right now. They will hang on to her as long as they can to create drama. They will continue to throw the "just OK but rather boring" contestants under the bus, until it gets down to the last 3 or 4. Mark my words, Tracee will be around for awhile!
Posted by Galee – June 30, 2008 8:12 AM
I agree that none of these people stood out. I've shopped at Michaels and I can think of things I've seen that would "say" Italy or Mexico or Thailand or Spain. I don't even think Mikey B's room said Thailand; it looked more Chinese to me. Kim and the judges are so right. These people need to step it up.

Tracee has not only been unprofessional, but is not a team player and her designs are hideous!! Why hasn't she gotten the boot?? Who would look forward to watching her show?? Judges I think we had enough drama for this season. Thank you.
Posted by Laura – June 30, 2008 2:37 AM
How in the world did Michael get booted????? The judges all said that everyone fell short of capturing the true feeling of their choosen contries, so what were they judging??
Tracy should have been BOOTED... Although Michael was a little over confident and displayed poor judgement in ridiculing the others(tracy)during the competition i don't belive he should have been sent home on this challenge. His design fell short of the country but at least it was nice to look at. Tracy's room was hideous...nothing about that looked like Italy maybe on nickelodean. i'm just really disapointed.
Posted by julie – June 30, 2008 2:30 AM
This year...no one has supreme style. Michael defiantly has ALOT more style and vision than Tracee does. Tracee just has God on her side, b/c it is only by his grace that she has remained b/c she is just soooooooooooooooooo bad, so uncreative... And only Mikey V is always great. Stephanie shouldn't have been in the top 2...I didn't get it. Everyone else is sub par...

I agree with Stephenie. His room was the best, by far. I loved it. Tracee's room wasn't even good enough for cartoons on TV! Horrible!

Tracy's room is hideous. Tracee is hideous. If they keep letting her go forward, this whole show is a joke. David was awesome. Kim was awesome. Nobody stands out in this group. Tracee is hateful, snide, and rude. I hope she reads this board and gets a clue that she is just awful as a person and a designer.

I could not agree more regarding Tracee...Not to be mean, but come on....I would not hire her to do my dog house.....Okay, maybe a little mean, but this is truly unfair. I also agree that Design Star is a Star Sell Out......What is Vern and the other judges thinking....

PLease don't torture us with Tracee anymore. Michael is, if at the very least likeable. Not real impressed yet this season with anyone really.

What I am seeing this year is too much emotion. And I am shocked that Tracee is still there. She has such a smirk on her face when the judges talk badly about the others. If she wins this year, I WILL NOT watch her show.
A design star needs grace, talent and a good control of their emotions. I think Trish is the one.
Posted by Tracy – June 30, 2008 1:08 AM
I couldn't believe how Michael was going around to each designer's "room" and kissing up, then turning to the camera and making snide remarks. By the end of the episode, I was ready for him to leave. This week he was definitely more obnoxious than Tracee. It makes me wonder how much of this stuff is a put on and not the real thing. I agree with the other comments about this group of designers being a disappointment this season.

Tracee's room reminded me of Alice in Wonderland with that mirror. I wish she had falling in it!

I think it's time for new judges. Lose Martha, Cindy and Vern. Bring in someone like Candice Olsen and maybe a couple of 'regular' folks..you know, the types that would actually hire a designer. Perhaps new 'common folk' judges every week. Just a thought. Time for new blood. And, I agree...this whole crew just doesn't seem to have found 'it,' when it comes to good design.

I believe Jennifer did stand out, although the designs do not STAND OUT as amazingly as they did last year. I wish Sparkle Josh was in this group. I believe he would make a great Design Star.

This is the worst group of people you guys have ever chosen! No one person stands out by now. I could do a better job than any of the contestants and I don't have any training. I can't imagine watching either of them hosting their own show. This season is so boring! Tracey should have been history a long time ago! How many lives does she have? The judges needs to stop saving her.

How in the world did Tracee not get the boot? Her room was a JOKE!!! Im starting to get frustrated thinking that Design Star might also be a sell out and only focused on who/what will boost ratings.

I think the judges got it wrong this episode...Michael SHOULD NOT have gone home...at least his room has stle and taste....which is more than I can say for the hindu room and that hideous "gondola" bed..... Judges, what were you all three thinking!!
