Is anyone impressed by KIM? I AM NOT, i think she's horrible. theres no sense of design or style behinde her show. she cant even draw her vision out! i hate the fact that she won and not todd, he was far more the better designer. and season one was the best so far, the past two years i've been EXTREMELY dissapointed! no one has had such an impact that DAVID, he is AWESOME in everything he does, the show needs to find more designers like him. the fact that the judges say each year gets harder bc everyone gets better and better - what are they BLIND? what a joke.

While not my favorite season at least the two remaining contestants are the best of the bunch. I have yet to be blow away with any of the designs.

And what's with all the crying this year? "I want my Mom", might as well been "I want my mommy".

This season of Design Star is not as good as the last two seasons. Last year Todd was the most inovative designer I have seen in a long time. Robb while a little tempermental was also good. The only reason to watch at all this year is for Vern Yip. I loved watching him on Trading Spaces and now on Deserving Design. I can not see this show continuing on for many more seasons unless you can get back some of the magic of the first season or the talent of the second season. There must be a reason to watch.

Posted by Pat Brown – July 20, 2008 4:14 PM

This season is so very disappointing. No standout whatsoever, either in design or personality. These are the best designers HGTV could come up with??

Todd from San Francisco (2nd season) had ruined me for all others; no one compares to him, ever. I adore Sparkle Josh. He should get his own show.

Last year I could hardly wait to see the Design Star challenge every week. This year I have watched and truly felt embarrased that these people are said to be the best of the design talent out there...PLEASE! ! ! ! I have not seen any design talent to speak of. . . in fact, I should apply next season! At least I have vision AND I can do something besides shop and be petty!!! These people are NOT the best! Look back on last year and recall "DESIGN VISION"!!!!
Get a handle on this show or don't bother to bring it back to the air next season!

By far, my favorite season was season 1, when david won. His show colorsplash is inspiring and I like how he add's his own touch to every house he goes too. This season is pretty boring, not really inpressed with any, maybe trish and micky v., but he is gone now, so I will probably vote for trish. Oh and we can't forget sparkle, I wish he would have won season 2, Kim is really nice, but not really crazy about her decorating, sorry.

Posted by melissa---- michigan – July 17, 2008 7:21 PM

I have been so underimpressed by the contestants this year. I loved Seasons One and Two, but this is the most bland group of designers I've ever seen. Tracee is a big, whiny, baby and I was thrilled to see her go. I can't imagine her with her own show -- her head is already too big. She has marginal talent and zero organizational skills. After watching her this season I think she has ADD possibly. None of the others have impressed much with their designs but I guess Trish and Matt are the best of the bunch, which isn't saying very much.

Posted by janie Smith – July 17, 2008 1:17 PM

Personally, I liked the kitchen remodel. I thought Vern was hard on the designers when he said it was boring. I do think the window treatment could have been better. It was okay, but looked amateurish, a bit cheesy. But considering they only had 24 hours and were trying to have a finished project for the home-owners, I think they came across just fine in getting that done, and it was a great looking room for the most part. Perhaps not the designer kitchen we all want, but a vast improvement over what the home-owners had to begin with, and I think it all came together and looked classy.

HGTV - while no one has been great on this year's show, please don't stop the show! I really look forward to it. This year must be an aberration. Keep David, put Sparkle Josh on a show - we all love him. So far this season, there isn't anyone I want to watch every week. I hope that changes. And keep Cynthia Rowley!

Posted by Ruby – July 17, 2008 2:41 AM

Have to admit, the kitchen really looked imcomplete and just plain - plain ! Cannot believe that Tracee made such an elaborate "task" chart and then took the day to shop !!! Mikey V DID say that the countertops needed to be there by 2 so that he could begin the tiling at 2:30 NOT near 7 pm when she decided to return. Very poor leadership - sorry to see Mikey V have to leave. I don't think we have really gotten to know exactly what these designers can do......

Posted by Ali – July 16, 2008 11:37 AM

VERN MAKES ME SICK. 'those people have to 'LIVE' there...paaalease. 'you so don't deserve it,' who does he think he is?? ARGGGGGGG, vern has to GO. tracee is not that bad!! they only show the shit, somebody HAS to look bad or the show stinks, let's face it! HGTV took tracee down. and thank God that dumb, blond thing is gone. stabbing tracee in the back (thanks again hgtv for giving him that face time!) stunk.

Posted by sher – July 14, 2008 2:05 AM

i agree. this years designers are the worst. neither of them have the talent david has.i truly love david and think he is so cool. i also love danniele. she is very talented

Posted by wilsie – July 11, 2008 2:34 PM

If by default Tracee wins this year, the show is
gone. Design Star is the best event on HGTV. I
surely would hate to see it cancelled because of
someone's hangup of some kind.

Posted by Margaret Pickett – July 9, 2008 10:37 PM

I was glad to see Michael go. He was always bragging on himself. I don't know why. Tracee's room was the worst though. She dodged a bullet. I don't understand why the designer's show us the awful parts of their personalities. Don't they know that we hold that against them with our vote?
I can't close without a comment on Vern. He talks so much about hosting skills. I guess he hasn't seen his show. "You so deserve it". He needs a new line.

Posted by apple – July 9, 2008 11:40 AM

Really enjoyed the team rooms this week. Thought everyone did a great job ! The designers seemed to have their spirits lifted and put some creative ideas together.

Posted by Ali Pritchett – July 9, 2008 9:46 AM

I would like to comment on Mikey V.. A wise man holds a still tongue. He never ever seems to complain. The time he saves limiting petty chit chat goes into the execution of his design. I agree with all who feel the spirit of David Brombstat in his work and client, employee relationships. He is the real thing. I see many a similar character traits in Mikey V. I so far see him as the next Design Star.

Just dropped in for a quality control check, and I have to say, I'm SO disappointed in the blog comments this year. They have, for the most part, really gone downhill. I followed them during the first two seasons of Design Star, but this is IT.
I just can't find anything good to say about all the negativity and piling on. (Heck, even when I agree!)
Lucky for all, I can't take any more, and I've chosen not to check back in again. (Whew!)
As for this year's Design Star, keep the cameras rolling, HGTV. Regardless of the opinions, good bad or indifferent, I find it's always entertaining, and sometimes even educational. I promise you won't find me interacting with the average TV show the way I do when Design Star is on. Who could ask for more? So, GO GET'EM, HGTV. (And by the way, remember that controversy IS good for ratings, so keep those cards and letters coming, folks)
Am I going to get sent home now?

Posted by DBCoop – July 7, 2008 10:56 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only disappointed viewer. I didn't watch last season after episode #1. I loved Sparkle Josh but was so put off by that self impoprtant guy that made it to the final 3 I couldn't watch anymore. This season with the exception of Matt and Mickey V is almost as off putting. The people are room DECORATORS not interior DESIGNERS. As for Vern's new show, he should have stayed on trading spaces. I remember seeing Kenneth Brown on an couple episodes of Designer's Challenge and thought what a great host he would make, I wanted to see him on his own show. I was a bit disappointed with his show but did like his personality. I would like to see Alice and Sparkle Josh with their own shows.
I really wanted to see the final four in season one with their own show, they could have called it "Four Play". They enjoyed what they were doing and made it seem like play more than a competition. Come on HGTV pump it up, at least we're not watching the same 5 shows re-run over and over like in the first few seasons of HGTV

Posted by john – July 7, 2008 10:41 PM

well i must admit i didnt cry QUITE as hard as michael did when he got cut... :D

but tracees room was worse. WAY WORSE!!! It was like her room was mocking italy!!!!!!!!

Posted by crazybanana!!! aka mandy – July 7, 2008 3:31 PM

I agree! I am so disappointed in this year's show! I feel it has sunk to a very low level. Eveything look, comment, etc. by the judges & designers seems to be for affect. I also agree with the comments about Vern. I am disappointed in him. I'm just plain disappointed in the whole show!

Posted by Vivian Howard – July 7, 2008 2:13 PM

No one noticed but the "Thai" room had Chinese characters on the wall. The Thai alphabet looks nothing like Chinese. At least it did look Oriental.

Posted by Kathy Sullivan – July 7, 2008 1:38 PM

I am not happy with the challenges either. I do want the contestants to be under a little bit of pressure so that we can see the if they have true talent. Anyone can end up with a reasonably good design if given enough money and time so the time and money limitations make sense. I am not interested in seeing them work in teams so often or watching them shop. I want to watch them build, refinish, and design the room! I would love to be able to see more of what each designer can do so that I may get a real feel of that designers talent. I do not want to see them bickering, or crying or hear how hard this is. Leave all of that for the cheap reality dating and matchmaking shows. The judges pretend they do not know what has been going on and that perturbs me because it is disinguous to the viewers. I definitely think this show has great potential and that they are dumbing it down a little this year by concetrating on the drama more so than the design. Come on HGTV you can do better! Also I agree Tracee should have been the one to go instead of Michael. But Tracee is stirring up controversy and getting people talking about the show so, they let someone else go instead of her to keep the talk going. I think this is a mistake because it is obvious that the show is more scripted and orchestrated then the true contest viewers want.

Posted by opinionatedme – July 7, 2008 12:15 PM

I do not want to be redundant. However, I must concur with the comments that have been posted thus far. This season the show lacks "Sparkle." My impression is that the designers chosen for this season have more experience and technical ability than many of the contestants in prior seasons. Although one might expect that to result in better design, it seems to have created an environment where everyone just plays it safe. I think these contestants are accustomed to having to pull it back in order to satisfy customers and they have not yet realized that this is television, not the real world. The less experienced designers selected for previous seasons were more spontaneous and less inhibited. While experience usually leads to enhanced skills, it can also have a sobering effect on one's willingness to take risks. I am trying to hang in there with this in the hope that I will see a truly inspiring design. Thus far, it has all been pretty bland.
Regarding Vern Yip, again, I concur with what I have read. I feel that he is stiff and pompous. I could not stay with his show "Deserving Design" because the rooms looked like something that he would have done on "Trading Spaces." I know that he is a very successful businessman; but when it comes to design, he should take some of his own advice.
Finally, I have to comment on Michael's departure performance. If he had invested as much drama and pathos into his room as he did into his traumatizing exit, he would still be on the show. Perhaps for his next gig, he could design a therapist's office in trade for some serious therapy, Freudian, of course.

Posted by Stefenos – July 7, 2008 2:28 AM

OMG! The talent this season sucks! I am still watching because now its to see how wrong they can get it this week and I LOVE Clive and watch for his reactions. I will keep watching, hope it gets better,

Posted by Terri – July 7, 2008 12:37 AM

I was absolutely rivited the first year of Design Star - voted 5 times for David Bromstad. Loved him then and watch his show now every week (even reruns!). He has charm, warmth, talent, and engages the viewer.

Last year I was less enthusiastic about Design Star and really lost interest after Sparkle Josh was eliminated. I voted for Kim but but find her shows disappointing and regret that she does not have the relaxed engaging personality of David. It is the warmth and charm that draws the audience in and makes the viewer want to come back week after week and Sparkle Josh would have had that.

This season's Design Star has lost steam. The challenges are less interesting, I can't seem to really care about any of the contestants, and I question the reasoning behind who the judges' decide to keep and eliminate. Continued weekly success seems to have less to do with which designer might be the most engaging, warm, creative, and potentially marketable than with who will cause the greatest weekly arguement, controversey and drama (this a lame effort to keep us tuned in to see more "bloodshed").

Thank heavens for David Bromstad!

I am glad to see that I am not alone in the feeling that the show in lacking this season.I would like to know what soap some of this people got fired from.
Tracee please for everones sanity get over it you are not and will not ever be the end all best designer. I think maybe if you at least had a personality you might have had a chance. But on the first challenge you showed everyone what you had to bring to the table and I think that really hurt you.
On a very very good note Sparkle I love seeing you. I cried when you left the show and any time you want to come to california and work on a house let me know. Honey you are always welcome at this house. There you go HGTV his frist show who wouldn't love a Sparkle do.
Mikey V, Matt,Jennifer and Trish thank you for giving us hope for better things to come. One more thing. GO FOR IT be yourself. Thats what we want to see. I think you guys are playing it to safe and we are not getting to see your true talent. We dont want to see what you think the juges want to see we want to see what you think it should or could be.

Posted by Angie – July 6, 2008 11:23 PM

This season's contestants are all a bit boring, except for the backstabbing. I agree that if we wanted to watch daytime drama, we'd be on another network. When do we get to the "design" part of Design Star? David Bromstad set the bar high. He really deserved to win and I love his show. I'm hoping Kim Myles will get a little better. We need a designer that can work for REAL people, rooms that work when the cameras are off. Mikey V is the only person whose attitude I'd want to see every week. (He even had to show Michael how to use a saw, and DID without griping. Good sport, better showman.) I hope Mikey keeps going.

Posted by Tracy – July 6, 2008 10:30 PM

Sparkle...so glad you are still affilitated with HGTV. Tracee....is she related to someone at HGTV...otherwise why is she still on the show?? She is horrible...the room last week was a joke...a cartoon. In some ways this year is sad compared to previous years...where is the talent?

Posted by Barbara – July 6, 2008 9:40 PM

Great choice in bringing back Sparkle Josh to comment on this season. I absolutely ADORE Sparkle Josh and would love to see more of him on HGTV. I am right this minute watching the designers try to decorate Sara Evans' home and I'm so excited to see how the designs turn out. I can't imagine the pressure and stress involved racing against the clock and then being judged under such public scrutiny. Design Star is my favorite show and I wait anxiously each season for the premiere. Not to be mean, but I'm hoping Tracee is the one to go tonight. Sparkle on!!

Posted by Jewell – July 6, 2008 9:31 PM

I'm trying to remember why I even watch this show. I can't stand the two "Design Stars" who already have their own shows. They're pompous and singularly lacking in talent. Where Bromstad gets the idea that he's an artist is a mystery to me. He has one style - Asian. Myles grates on me with her loading work on everyone else, but you won't see her chipping a nail.

Where are the Candace Olsens? Where are the Lisa LaPortas? THEY have talent. THEY are watchable.

This new crop is the same old tired stuff.

Posted by clurty – July 6, 2008 9:31 PM

Tracee and Michael both have both got one of the the worst attitudes and sportsmanship I have ever seen. They sneered when someone else design was criticed. How ugly to show their hatred of their competitors. It was disgusting. Both Tracee's and Michael,s behavior are absolutely revolting. To think that one would even want to watch them host a show of their own. Then to have smug little sweet Michael cry like a baby when his show was cancelled. It should have been cancelled the first week.

How ugly to see such behavior by adults. Get Tracce out of there fast.

Posted by Jane Doe – July 6, 2008 9:02 PM

THIS TRACEE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PERSON ON TV EVER......PLEASE SHOOT ME AND PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY....her rooms are terrible, her attitued is worse...i sincerely hope she reads these things and looks into herself and changes...but probly not....ITS NOT EVERYONE ELSE TRACEE....ITS Y O U THAT S U C K S

Posted by Kim Kouse – July 6, 2008 8:00 PM

Michael's room wasn't particularly Spanish but neither were the most of the others' particularly of their country's flavor. At least his was well designed and pleasant. You would NEVER see a room like Tracee's in Venice. That hot pink would not be tolerated because it "colpa d'occhi" (hits the eye) and the gondola bed...please. I'm Italian, live there part time and I know how things look and it's not like that. All told, Michael must have been eliminated for reasons other than design. It was unjust and disappointing; Tracee should have gone.

Posted by AustinJulie48 – July 6, 2008 6:51 PM

I think the two with real potential are Mikey V and Matt. And I do miss some of the designers from last season, such as Sparkle Josh, (he's so over the top but lovely!), and I still cannot believe Kim won the competition last year. Her designs are just awful and amateurish, so I have no confidence that the judges will pick anyone of worth as semi-finalists this time around. By the way, as far as countries' influence...there was not one of those rooms that was reflective of the country they were supposed to represent - especially the Mexico ones. I've been there many times, and Mexico is bright, cheerful and full of great natural and earth tones, not airline blue and green or black and white - ick!!!

Posted by patticake – July 6, 2008 6:43 PM

I have to agree that Micheal should have gone. There is enough hostility this year. Why on this earth would the judges diss Mikey V. for at least having something in his room other than cartoons on the walls. I think this year is very sad in talent. Micheal should not have been such a back stabber and baby. The "Zen" thing was a joke. Be true to your own self Matt. I will admit it is a little bit hard to take this year with the tears and nit picking.

Posted by Jeannie J – July 6, 2008 11:21 AM

That was a Gondola? Right, where did that $500 go? I’m just wondering if anyone else thinks the close-up/silent reactions from the contestants in the elimination segments seem too spot on? Something seems juvenile about the editing and airing Michael’s break-down was lowly, having nothing to do with design. If I wanted to see an episode of ignorant and tedious daytime TV I wouldn’t be making time for DS. I don’t think the judges have lost their senses, I think the editors and producers have. With this path of pandering to the lowest level of decencies I think we’ll be seeing more of Tracee and her tears because that’s what makes good design?

Posted by SobeSofi – July 6, 2008 12:36 AM

I agree with most everyone that Tracee should not be on the show. Michael really does have talent and should be brought back!!!However he does need more control of his emotions and needs to drop his arrogant manner.
NONE of the contestants are really very talented and ALL of the judges seem to be out to lunch this year.

Posted by KATHY Lowry – July 5, 2008 9:26 PM

Just got back from CA and got to see the episodes I missed. What a disappointment to see Michael leave instead of Tracee. Her design was so amatuerish as to be kindergarten-like. Michael's may not have looked like Spain, but at least it had class. I had a hard time puting ANY country to any of the rooms. They all looked generic to me. Thank Heaven for the explainations.

I agree the theatrics are boring. Instead of boosting ratings, they're more likely to drive people away. Hopefully, the judges will dump Tracee, or maybe it's time to look for different judges.

Posted by kmbuckeye – July 5, 2008 7:35 PM

I am glad to see Sparkle Josh still adding some dazzle to your show. You need to give him his own show. He is marketable and has great style ideas. He was fun to watch. I voted for Kim, but have not been real happy or interested in watching her show. Sorry Kim.

Posted by Teresa – July 5, 2008 4:42 PM

I'm sorry - Designer's pay attention. Vern is knowen for using RED & Brown's....look back to old "Trading Spaces" shows- he used red & brown's ALL the time. I loved his work, but it's like Candice and her "ice blue & brown, nothing to surprise you with.I don't like the bickering, there's enough of that in our everyday lives, give us a group we can 'look forward to seeing'. And I mean that 'in a good way".

Posted by Leone Reutlinger – July 5, 2008 1:25 PM

This seasons Design star competition is a big disappointment. These guys don't have half of the talent as the designers in seasons 1 or 2.Please bring back Will, Sparkle Josh,Todd even Josh, who by the way was obnoxious, but a great designer. Your viewers want to see creativity, and talent. Not grown women crying and a man acting like a two year old crying for his mommie!

Posted by gail – July 4, 2008 8:39 PM

I don't like any florals or candles in my designing. I have florals outside. I like clean lines and calm colors and managebility. Mickey V., , by far, is the best new designer in that silly bunch. To think he's a police officer is interesting. The 'zen' room was right on. Vern Yip is not the best judge as he's way overly critical and hung up on candle sconces. Yuck - how do yo clean those? Jennifer is supercute but she is too feminine in her designing. Matthew, I think, is also gifted especially in craftsmenship. The rest of them I think want to be just 'stars' not designers.

Posted by Barbara Doppes – July 4, 2008 7:15 PM

I have to agree with everyone, this season is incredibly BORING. People tell me all the time I should try out for this show, but I always felt not having any formal training would hinder my chances. Clearly a degree doesn't equal TALENT! I mean look at David bromstad, he is first and foremost an artist. But he can also use a saw and build something! These new designers (excluding possibly Matt & Mikey) are so cookie cutter and mainstream! And they can't use a saw? Please! Tracee sucks, and love him or hate him, I thought Micheal's designs were at least the most interesting so far. And vern? All I've seen him do on deserving design is hang candleholders EVERYWHERE...ground breaking stuff!

Posted by niki – July 4, 2008 3:19 PM

Maybe I'm crazy, but I,m loving the show this season. The only one I can't stand is Tracee. I can't wait for each show.

Posted by Geri – July 4, 2008 9:20 AM

This year's winner will be the best of a bad lot. I honestly don't understand how any of these folks made it onto the show.

Tracee's room looked like a Bugs Bunny background. Michael's "club" was an insider room, not accessible as "Spanish" to anyone. Mikey V's room was fairly cohesive as Thai.

Todd's room last season was conceptually simple and very well executed- big differnce compared to Tracee's.

Posted by The Architect – July 4, 2008 8:12 AM

Michael did have issues, but his room was so much better than Tracee's. I hope the judges realize that people that love Design Star don't want to see the drama displayed like on American Idol. If Tracee does not go home this week my days of watching Design Star is over. The show should be based on talent. Tracee has no talent based on what I have seen on the show. Last year was great ! Don't let this year end is disappointment. I want to see designs and talent NO drama !

Posted by kelly – July 4, 2008 3:06 AM

Sparkle Josh! You are the greatest. I was so sorry to see you leave last year. And boy am I homesick for last year. I was thrilled the team would be in Nashville but boy the show is full of lame challenges and quite boring and a big let down this year. We need a Sparkle Josh this year! The talent I thought would be up a notch but I was sadly mistaken. I think the talent is lacking. And yes I think Tracee should leave for not playing well with others! Michael was too immature and obviously had issues but actually had talent. I just wish they'd give these people real life challenges. (i.e. actual homes or rooms with realistic budgets) There is so much this show could do that would be entertaining and community oriented and great television! Producers call me!!!!

Posted by Linda – July 4, 2008 2:24 AM

What a mess that show was! I don't know if it was the cushiony things they had to work with or the budget or what, but there wasn't one room there that had any personality at all, much less giving you a feel of another country. At least it was a chance to get rid of Michael ("Yes! I'm Obnoxious!"), I guess all the rest of the crying and whining will be up to Tracee, but I can't see anybody there wanting to comfort HER. If there is a God, she'll be gone next. Well, I keep watching so far just to hear Sparkle's comments each week - he's so much kinder than I am or that the judges ever were to him. (Why isn't he a judge, by the way? I think everybody likes him way more than Vern-)

Posted by sandra moyers – July 3, 2008 10:42 PM

I don't think these designers are as good as the first two set of contestants. Maybe because they were already working as designers and have set ways and ideas? I do wish them well and hope someone comes through with some fantastic ideas to make us all say "WOW, that's really great design!"

I do think they spend too much time and effort trying to one up or degrade each other when they should be trying to do their best on each and every contest. Especially knowing how important it really is since they're competing for their own network TV show and not a popularity contest in high school.

In the next challenge HGTV should try using design students or those with no previous experience. Look at Kim Miles, she was a hairdresser before the contest and she's great at design and hosting.

Posted by Charlotte – July 3, 2008 10:04 PM

I hate to say this, but I am pretty much over this show after last week. All of the rooms were ugly as sin. As someone who lives in the real world and decorates my home using what I have (most of which I inherited from family), what I can find at stores like Michaels and Penney's and what I can create on a small budget, I think I decorate better than the contestants did this week.

What the execs at HGTV are forgetting is that a huge part of their target audience is like me -- someone who wants to express herself and create a nice environment for her family through decorating. So what is with encouraging over the top "themey" designs?

I will probably give the show another chance this week -- if only because I watched the last two seasons -- and truth be told, there is little else on. I just hope it is less disappointing.

Oh -- I have to add -- what I would love to see is for each designer to be paired with a viewer to coach through designing their own room. A challenge like that would prove who could host a show I would actually watch.

Posted by Nicole – July 3, 2008 8:55 PM

viewers agree that from day 1, for many reasons tracee should be gone. Michael's room wasn't ugly or ridiculous, but he's gone and she's still there! Most would probably agree that Michael's childishness was fun to watch Tracee's whining and boasting, is not. Maybe the judges should give a little more info on there decisions so we know where they are coming from, because for most of us, it makes no sense.

Posted by ppragle – July 3, 2008 7:20 PM

big mistake...tracee should have been cancelled..michael has an attitude but alot of talent too...loved his floor..
unfair...it was not a good choice...
boooo hoooooo...

Posted by carol – July 3, 2008 7:16 PM

I was hoping that the ghost would run off with Tracee -- they didn't even want her. This week's
room "Barbie Animation" was a horror. At least Michael's room looked feasible, not Spanish, but okay. Tracee's room looked like a homecoming float. Tracee go home and find another source of income.

Posted by Janice Romeo – July 3, 2008 7:07 PM

This season I have not connected with any of the designers. The rooms have all been sub-par from what we saw the previous two seasons. Everything seems to be less about design and more about creating controversy for ratings. It's the main reason I don't watch other reality shows and now my beloved Design Star is showing those same flaws. Let's see more design and creativity. Does this bunch have any? Who picked these guys anyway? And another thing please don't have anymore black walls. You have overdone it for me!

i am SOOOO disappointed by this year's group of contestants, they aren't designers as far as i can see...maybe hgtv should look elsewhere for material for shows...the people who can design rooms have disappeared.
david was the only one that lives up to the title of design star and they really need to do something to improve this year's design star or it will go down in flames...and nobody will watch it..
please do something, hgtv...different judge something to fix this or no one with watch this person's show, just like no one watches "miles of styles"....give me a break.

Posted by Karen – July 3, 2008 6:33 PM

..OK it's unanimous....TRACEE MUST GO!

Posted by Sharon – July 3, 2008 4:53 PM

I so agree with everyones view on tracee and michael, but everyone seems to overlook how HORRIBLE Steph's designs are!! what, is she 90 years old?? If I see a doily in her next design I'm not watching anymore! and ofcourse they need to keep tracee on, only for the fact they need the viewers to keep watching until she's finally sent home! C'mon, isn't that why YOU watch it? I can't wait till her show is cancelled! LOL

Posted by yvette – July 3, 2008 4:35 PM

This program is one of my favorite shows on hgtv...but I sometimes wonder what the judges are thinking....Tracee is just plain disgusting, she is so in love with herself she makes me sick she is not a team player even though I realize this is a competion she will be working with indivisuals if this be her calling which I don't think she has any talent her vision of a gondala made me crack up...she needs to go home and continue decorating classes...to bad two could not have been voted off at the same time, glad to see cry baby Michael go as much as Tacee should.

Posted by Jude – July 3, 2008 3:19 PM

Based on lack of comments, does anyone care this year? Michael needs to mature quite a bit and is definately not design star material. Hope the others step up to the plate and show us alot more talent than they have so far.

Posted by jay – July 3, 2008 2:48 PM

As always, I love reading Sparkle Josh's comments. I really loved Jennifer's painting, that showed her artistic ability. Although, I'm not a Tracee fan, I liked her design concept. But the colors were definitely off. The chandlier was awesome!! I felt Michael was WAY too full of himself and two-faced with his comments. His attitude was his demise. I can't wait until next week for more SPARKLE!!

Posted by Erica – July 3, 2008 1:54 PM

NONE of the contestants, except the #1, steph.
Both Mikey V and Matt were more japanese than Thai.
Color and soft curves are much more Thai

Posted by nancy – July 3, 2008 11:13 AM

The designers this time are all a joke, why waste viewers time, people that watch this are in the know, as I designer I think this is all about ratings not designers. Crying boys was a fake, HGTV get real get good people, the HGTV channel is going down hill fast, not talent, half naked men and women, no class. I have been a viewer for years but am just about ready to take leave. Babs

Posted by Babs – July 3, 2008 10:48 AM

I stopped watching HGTV for almost a year after Kim was picked Design Star last year. I was not impressed with her at all and she should have never won. David Bromstead was the clear winner the first year. This year looks like a repeat of last year's losing series.

Posted by Sylvia – July 3, 2008 8:20 AM

While I agree that there was no "Spain" in Michael's room, I dug what he did to the floor...that glass tile effect was really creative and the judges should have given him some props for that. Besides his childish demeanor; dissing Tracey, etc., he does have a lot more style than she does, and we, at my house, are really looking forward to her getting tossed. I'm thinking it will ultimately come down to Matt against either Jennifer or Stephanie. I loved Jenn's walls (used to sell Italian pottery) and Stephanie has surprised me; there's a lot more going on in that head of hers; deconstructing that Flamingo in the last episode was pretty clever. Happy we can all dish and love hearing Sparkle Josh's input - yea! Still miss him from last season. Hope they step it up this Sunday so we can really see what these guys are made of.

Posted by dsjunkie – July 3, 2008 7:41 AM

I haven't seen one of these people show any type of design talent. Is this season a JOKE or what? I totaly love David from season 1, and Kim is not too bad, but these "wanna be's need to go home" and shame on who ever pick these tasteless people!

Posted by kc – July 3, 2008 6:10 AM

This is for Nashvilledeb: Don't comment on someone's talent unless you watch their show. Kim Myles IS A VERY CREATIVE DESIGNER and her rooms have been terrific on her show. She is really down to earth and creates rooms her CLIENTS will be comfortable with and so far, she has been very successful. I agree with most on this blog -- this season hasn't produced much of a stand-out as far as a design star goes, but I'm hoping we have better things to look forward to in the remaining competition.

Posted by Debbie – July 3, 2008 3:48 AM

For the life of me, I cannot understand how Tracey remains on this show. She not only is an embarassment to women but to even have made the cut to be on the show in the first place is utterly unbelievable! She makes all women look bad with her infantile behavior, rolling eyes and more superior than you attitude. Regardless of her age, she should know how to behave better. No Southern upbring at all! Michael was ridulous! Confidence is one thing, but he was delusioned. I agree with the judges, the remaining group needs to step up to the plate and pull out more than they are currently showing. I love this show, but it needs more energy with this group! Clive.... give them one of your talks!

Posted by Trish – July 3, 2008 2:19 AM

I am very disappointed in the quality of the contestants this year. I haven't seen any designs that I really liked. I REALLY don't like the meaness that is displayed by most of the contestants. Happiness at the misery of others is terrible. I think that Will and Sparkle Josh and the designer from Santa BArbara displayed much more designing talent, a spirit of cooperation and presence than the present contestants.Too bad they can't compete this year. I'm sure they'd win, hands down.

Posted by mary pat quigley – July 3, 2008 1:57 AM

Jennifer's room reflected her originality. Her personality exudes excitement! She would make a great addition to HGTV. Tracee seems to have a personality PROBLEM with her "Blame Game" persona. I doubt Tracee could capture much of an audience based on both her design work & television persona. No matter who wins, it's going to be almost impossible to find another DAVID BROMSTAD!!!

Posted by Cyndy – July 3, 2008 12:03 AM

I was relieved when Michael was eliminated. He was so sensitive when it came to himself but so ready to go after others. He needs to grow up.

I agree that Tracee is next. To me, Matt is the star. Although his last effort was disappointing, he is full of ideas and has the ability to carry them out.

Posted by PamC – July 2, 2008 11:38 PM

What truly shocked me about the latest installment of Design Star, was Vern Yip's abysmal ignorance when critiquing Mikey V's room set.

Let's face it, MV's room was practically 100% japanese, right down to the 3 main traditional japanese colors; red, white and black. The Thai style, because of the overwhelming influence Indian culture and religion have over all of southeast Asia and Indonesia, is very elaborate and overdecorated--"Baroque" so to speak-- relying profusely on heavily carved and painted wood, gold leaf all over the place, very bright fabrics and very shiny brass doodads everywhere.

So when Vern accused Mikey V of being too Thai, it landed me on the floor. As an interior designer isn't he and everyone else who aspires to be an interior designer supposed to have a good understanding of not only history of art, but regional cultural traditions from all over the world? Specially in the position he got himself judging other designers' work?

Posted by Miguel Dominguez – July 2, 2008 11:32 PM

I am disappointed that HGTV seems to have lowered its standards and I can't understand why they would think that keeping Tracee on for the drama would draw more viewers. Some contestants were taken out of the selection for not making good hosts. I just don't see Trace has having enough talent or a personality that anyone could work with. And I just don't think anyone would want to watch her show now so get her off fast and don't waste anyone's time anymore.

Posted by Sandra – July 2, 2008 10:24 PM

The Design Star talent is just awful this season. No one stands out.

Posted by Shirley – July 2, 2008 9:55 PM

I agree with one of the female judges when she said that by now, someone should be emerging as a contender. There is almost no talent among the lot of them. They are all a bunch of cry babies!!
They need to get a grip and step up and do what they need to be doing so a TRUE DESIGN STAR will emerge at the end of the season.

Posted by Pat – July 2, 2008 9:23 PM

So far, I don't see Design Stars like the first season but I'll keep watching because I think there is talent. Jennifer's room was the best because of the creativity and if asked to guess a country, I would say italy because of the design and the colors. Mickey V. shows that he is a man who listens to what the customer wants and delivers even though it wasn't as creative. Stephanie's room was creative but I just couldn't see Mexico without color, no matter how chic and sophisticated it is. However, she is talented. As for Matt, I agree that he is talented and creative based on the past. Trish is just so so. I like Michael but his immaturity is not design star material and if Tracee is one of the semi finalists, I don't think I'll ever watch the show again. I'll feel betrayed.

Posted by Kathi – July 2, 2008 9:04 PM

I really can't stand Tracee in this series of designers, but if you watch the audition videos, she stands out as the most professional and well-versed hands down. Her real designs are on the video and they are very nice. I think she might just not do well under extreme pressure - kind of like having to take a test - some people can, and some people can't.
So far, none of the designs this season have stood out at all. Last season, I absolutely hated Kim's designs so what does that tell you? LOL. Sparkle was who I was routing for!

Posted by Char – July 2, 2008 8:14 PM

I believe that the current group of designers seem very inexperienced. I was very disappointed by all their designs. You need to add Candice Olson to the panel who rate these designers. I also believe that many of the opportunities you give these people are of a lower design quality. If you continue in this vain, your shows for the new person will be of a lower quality. Take them to better stores for their merchandise. Good luck with this year.

Posted by Carolyn Shegelski – July 2, 2008 6:58 PM

I agree there is no design star emerging. Like everyone else, I am perplexed that Tracee is still there. Michael's backstabbing came back to haunt him, but he did show a better design quality than Tracee. I bet the judges are just as perplexed as the TV audience. We have to remember, they don't see all the behind the scenes stuff that we see on TV. I bet they are probably feeling the same way the audience is at this point in the game. I will give it one more week of viewing before deciding whether to continue to watch or not.

Posted by Melisa – July 2, 2008 5:53 PM

Michael's design did not reflect the country that he chose. Overall the caliber of his work was better than Tracee's and several of the other rooms. Most of the rooms were not at all creative. Michael's was at least designed. I really hope that Tracee is not the winner. I will not watch her show. She rubbed me the wrong way from the first episode. Matt was disappointing this week. I expected him to be a real contender. Hopefully next week will be better

Posted by Carol Ann – July 2, 2008 5:22 PM

Hi Sparkle Josh. Nice to see you and hear your overly kind comments. This season is a disappointment. It's hard to watch. I am noticing a subtle shift in all the shows on HGTV and they seem to be going with the drama. I miss the shows that used to be about the "process" of designing rooms for every day people. Matt Fox and Sheri Hiller used to take you through the steps with practice boards, drapery pattern "how to's", building and safety tips. I miss the "Sensibly Chic" show that took you step by step through to how they got the look. They showed the painting tips, why one rug worked better than another etc. What about Debbie Travis' The Painted House? They have gotten off the track and it's just getting hard to watch. Of course there are still some exceptional shows, designers, and tips but I think they have moved off the "do it yourself" and I miss that. I have also gotten off track, but my point is that I feel a shift over all. I just hope this season's DS is not a preview of things to come.

Posted by Joellen – July 2, 2008 5:03 PM

I think people here have hit the nail on the head - the bar for the next Design Star is rapidly going down! David was great - heck the girl that got second place (sorry don't remember her name) was WAY better then ANY of the people in season 2 and my next door neighbor would be better and more entertaining than anyone this season - I have a busy schedule and DVR the show but don't have the time to spend watching any more of this season - Tracee is just sooo irritating - not why I watch TV!
I LOVE Vern Yip but between the loser 'Deserving Design' and his being a judge - would rather just see him have a help anyone show each week - instead of these two dogs...

Posted by brumbyrun – July 2, 2008 3:51 PM

isnt anyone tired of all the crying going on!? i dont care it they're on an emotional rollercoaster, there's no way they really think they have a chance to get their own show when all they do is cry! what would their clients do if they didnt like a room and they starting crying!
aauugghh!!

Posted by Patty HL – July 2, 2008 3:50 PM

I was disappointed in the white room challenge. None of the design stars measured up and put forth a great room. Overall for the first 4 episodes, Mickey V and Matt have done the best at showing what they are capable of doing with Jennifer and Trish close behind. Tracee must go home - from the beginning her designs have not been what I would expect from a professional - they are poorly conceived and executed.

Posted by Donna – July 2, 2008 3:42 PM

what's all this sparkle crap? he lost for a reason! i'm sick of him and sick of hearing about him!

so far, none of them are good. i did think the bed idea in the first show was great where he put them all together. don't know his name. HGTV will really have a hard time with the 1 year contract.

Posted by juanita – July 2, 2008 3:27 PM

Absolutely "hated" Tracee's room ! Already tied of her "act". My choices are Matt and Micke9053y V

Posted by Alison Pritchett – July 2, 2008 3:05 PM

The first design star really had one in David. His show is one of the best. Kim Myles is a crafter...do not watch her show. This year, no stand out yet. Not one of the rooms showed any orginality. Personalities? GET RID OF TRACEE.

Posted by jenny – July 2, 2008 2:55 PM

Again I agree with the comments made thus far...Tracy should have been sent home this week...she has absolutely NO talent that I can see...Michael's room, while not Spain at all, at least was okay...though his "crybaby" style was infuriating and should have been sent home...if not this week, then soon! I'm still pulling for Mickey V and Matt to shine above all...though I must say I was very disappointed in both their rooms this week...while Mickey was the only one whose room at least "resembled" his country...it did not have the WOW factor...unfortunately, Matt just "over thought" his room! I was quite surprised with Jennifer...she and Trish are showing a few signs of creativity...though I still can't see why anyone would hire Stephanie...hopefully this coming week...we'll be able to see some Design Star qualities coming forth from a couple of the remaining ones....

Posted by Arlene – July 2, 2008 2:15 PM

Michael deserved to go. He was too immature to host his own show and was just as much of a backstabber as Tracee, who also deserved to go (more because of her personality than her design). I think Stephanie is nice but not very smart, and she won't be a Design Star. Overall, I think Trish might be a Design Star, or Mikey V. I like Mikey V.'s design, and Trish is a very nice person who really deserves a show.

Posted by RR – July 2, 2008 11:46 AM

After watching Tracee I am convinced that even if she is the design star she could not decorate my home I would not

Posted by Deb – July 2, 2008 10:26 AM

Sparkle Josh, you are the best! Your comments are on target although I thought that Tracee's room was NOT acceptable but that is just me.

Posted by SuzyQ – July 2, 2008 8:53 AM

I agree with those who say no one stands out this year. I also think most of the rooms did not capture the essence of the country. Michael's room really wasn't much worse than the others but he is such a catty little snot I was elated when his show was cancelled. His hubris was unbearable with all the comments about how great he is. I couldn't stand the way he was twisting around looking at other designers working as though he is so wonderful his room would only take a few minutes to put together but would blow them out of the water. So glad to see the shock on his face when no one liked it. And Tracee needs to go first because she has no style, no talent and is mean but mostly because she thinks she is so talented! I can't believe she can possibly think she is the best designer on the show. Can't she see? She and Michael both have inflated ideas about their ability. I can stand conceit when a person is great but it is painful to watch when a person doesn't have a clue.
I think I liked Mikey's room best. Maybe just needed to be toned down a little bit but at least I knew it was an Asian country! I did love Jennifer's wall but an unimaginative furniture arrangement. And, Im not to hard on the judges. I think they are as dismayed with the talent as we are. They obviously don't know where they went wrong! LOL

Posted by Michelle – July 2, 2008 1:18 AM

I'm so glad to read that others think the judges are being inconsistant! Now I'm not a fan of Tracee's but Todd's room last season was just as cartoonish as hers was. And Trish's room wasn't Mexican themed and also Michael's room wasn't but he got booted and I'm certainly not a fan of his mainly because he is so immature and unwise. He displayed such distasteful and dishonest behavior. Very untrustworthy. I would never watch a decorator on TV or hire a decorator with that kind of character. He has so much growing up and maturing to do. Hopefully wisdom, integrity and class will catch up with him someday. I hope for him discernment and kindness in his future. You can be successful without backstabbing others. So very classless and unattractive.

Also...I think the Asian themed rooms were the best even though Matt got carried away! Matt and Mikey V. stuck with the theme the most and you could definitely tell the country that was their inspirations.

ALL the other rooms seemed very contemporary and they could have been anywhere in the world. Had I not known what country they were trying to do....I would not have ever guessed their countries.

I agree with most people on this post in saying that Design Star 3 is NOT going good. There's not a SPARKLE in the bunch!!! Gee...I miss you Sparkle. I'm still hoping for HGTV to give you your own show!

I hope a Star emerges soon to draw the viewers in and get us cheering for someone....anyone! Right now I have to go with either Matt or Jennifer! I enjoy hearing and seeing them the best...so far. Mikey V. is just okay, Tracee is really hard to stomach...period and Trish just doesn't seem likeable...too cold!

Anyway...that's my thoughts.

I'll keep watching to see who we get to vote for!

Posted by cindy – July 2, 2008 12:15 AM

There is talent, and "Design Star" potential among the remaining contestants, but it's hard to see because of the way challenges are posed and because we have the same set of judges every week.

What might have happened if each designer had been given at least an hour to "research" a particular country, an hour to "plan", an hour to "shop", and then two work sessions (8 hours one day, and 4 hours the next) to complete the individual challenges. At least give these designers a fighting chance to shine(which will give viewers a more interesting episode to watch).

Also, judges I like each of you, but it would be nice to have other opinions - either a guest judge each week, or replace one judge each season. (Although, Vern must stay!!)

I'm not giving up yet...but things are beginning to feel stale.

Posted by Sue Fulton – June 30, 2008 9:34 PM

Michael acted like a big baby. Very disappointing. He demonstrated he is not mature enough to be the Design Star nor own his own business. This year's season itself is not up to its usual standard. These are the best decorators you could find? I don't think any of them have captured my attention enough to watch their own HGTV show. You'll have to make the challenges much easier if you want them to succeed.

Posted by jay – June 30, 2008 9:14 PM

I was very disappointed in the show, also, but I think the designers were handicapped a little by the furniture they had to work with. The sectional pieces looked so modern and so many of the countries that were represented seem like they needed more rustic pieces. With only 12 hours, the designers did not have time to build anything. There wasn't even a table for them to work with. At least on the earlier white room challenges, the designers had furniture that seemed to offer a little flexibility. All those cushions just seemed like a nighmare to start with.

Posted by Laura – June 30, 2008 8:15 PM

I agree that Tracee should have gone home. I just don't get how her room with the broken gondola and painted mirror & chandelier made it past the judges! Seriously! Did anyone else notice that her gondola was broken on one corner? And what happened to the $500? Couldn't she purchase a big mirror? Why paint it? I just did not "get" her room at all...or why she's still in the competition. I was sad to see Michael go, mainly because he's entertaining...but the whole "I want my mommy" thing at the end was a bit too much for me. Obviously, he wasn't ready for his own show either. Oh well... Bring back SPARKLE!!!

Posted by Laura Zielke – June 30, 2008 5:50 PM

I was so waiting for Design Star this season what a letdown no out of the box talent, no love to hate it rooms no designers making me want more even if the room was outrages by this time the last two seasons I could not wait for the next show I loved the extras of the web but this season it looks like I will be freeing up that time slot on the TIVO what a shame I love Clive and Vern

Posted by Lori – June 30, 2008 5:11 PM

I think the judges had to have been clued in on Michaels behavior,(appalling) and clearly he has issues. I actually did like his 'glass floors' which were very creative. Tracee is a little full of herself and as others have stated this makes good t.v. I loved the 'italian pottery' walls in Steph's room. I hope there will be more individual challenges where they will have more time to put it all together. I do hope that there will be more comraderie now and they will respect each other more.

Posted by Gaby – June 30, 2008 5:05 PM

I understand that Michael's room wasn't one of the top rooms, and did indeed deserve to be in the bottom, BUT Tracee's room was a joke! I can't believe she's still there for any reason except for ratings (she's is involved in an argument and cries on every episode), she clearly has no talent.

Posted by Beth – June 30, 2008 4:23 PM

I agree with Andrea that Tracee's design looked like a set for a high school play. The ONLY great thing in it was the chandelier as Sparkle Josh noted. I felt it was amateurish and if I saw that in a designer's portfolio I sure wouldn't trust them. Michael was a real drama guy, but his design was better than several others and the only reason they gave for cutting him was that it didn't bring in his chosen country's theme. Well where was Stephanie's Mexican theme? I liked her room well enough, but it had NOTHING to do with Mexico that I could see. It looks like the judges are applying their criteria differently for different people!

Posted by Eleanor – June 30, 2008 4:21 PM

Michael? What up with that? Embarassing, Man. So far, no Star. Keep trying to get into this, but am not seeing the talent (maybe Mikey V), the personality (maybe Stephanie). Anyone who spells her name with two e's should just go home.

Posted by Lulu – June 30, 2008 4:02 PM

Mikey V the best. He deserves to win but if not he can come over and handcuff me anyday.

Posted by jmk – June 30, 2008 1:47 PM

I think I did see an interview with Tracee saying she was one of the two semifinalist.
If this is true it certainly distracts from watching the show.

Posted by Donna – June 30, 2008 1:34 PM

Michael's room was nicely done. He just didn't listen to the instructions. There was no "Spain" in the room. Poor Michael. He's too young to know that big talk about yourself must be backed up with talent and skill or it's just boasting. I'm thinking that he will learn from all this and come out with some lessons that will serve him in his career.

Posted by nikkymac – June 30, 2008 1:09 PM

Tracee's room was not that great; it reminded me of the Alice in Wonderland ride at Disneyland. However, that being said, Michael was really showing a lot of meanness by seeking her out, complimenting her, and then making faces and dissing her behind her back. He deserved to leave just because of that. I personally think Matt, Mikey V., and Jennifer have the most original personalities for hosting a show. I agree with the person who said that the judges criticized for not sticking with the theme, then came down on Mikey V. for actually doing this very thing. They pick the oddest things to criticize or praise. I thought Jennifer's wall was wonderfully done but the rest of her room was fairly ho-hum, and I thought they would comment on that.

Posted by Louise – June 30, 2008 1:00 PM

I agree - no true Design Star this year - nobody seems to be a top level designer like before. No imagination - copying designs from the last two seasons. Tracee is an embarrassment to Kentucky!!

This season has thus far proven to be so disappointing. What I'd like to see is a challenge of real design stars: Lisa LaPorta, Angelo, David Bromsted, Kim Myles, Kenneth Brown, Vern Kip, Candace Olsen, etc... Like a celebrity design-off! Then we'd see some real designing talent (perhaps the designers represent charities and the winning designer's non-profit gets a monetary contribution from HGTV). Just a thought. It would be much better than what we've seen this year. This season contestants are so subpar. The only thing the show had going for it was the drama created by back stabbing cry baby Michael who had it in for Tracee who's design, btw, should be headlined in a book titled: "What Not to Do In the Individual Challenge on Design Star or EVER". I thought all the rooms looked crappy. Big disappointment. Best things going for the show this year was seeing and hearing Michael cry for his mamma. The judges have it rough this year. Sad thing is that whoever is picked out of this bunch you HGTV execs should expect subpar ratings from whatever show they produce with the winner. The bar really needs to be raised....and now!

Posted by Jane – June 30, 2008 11:59 AM

Viewer Sandy, I have to agree with you. None of these designers have the talent or "sparkle" needed to have their own TV show on HGTV. I was so disappointed last season that Sparkle Josh went home so early. What a waste! And when it came to the final two, I couldn't believe that Kim Myles won. Over TODD and his wonderful, over-the-top, creative rooms???! What in the world were viewers thinking?? Now,I can hardly stand to watch "Myles of Style" commercials, let alone Kim's series. She's a nothing of a designer.
I miss Todd! And Sparkle Josh....at least we get to see you on this blog.

Posted by Nashvilledeb – June 30, 2008 11:57 AM

How many words can you make from the name 'Tracee'?....self centered, obnoxious, boring, spiteful, spoiled brat, unoriginal, vain.....just to name a few I can think of quickly. PLEASE, please, please send her home. Don't think I can stand to watch much more of her. I agree with blue sky......there hasn't been a true design star since David in Season One. I watched Myles of Styles with Kim and couldn't get through the whole show. Had to change the channel. I think Mikey V. is the best of the season three bunch with Matt a close second. Was sorry to see Michael go but won't miss his snide remarks. Good luck Michael.

Posted by Grace – June 30, 2008 11:47 AM

The problem I have with the judges, is the fact that they are so inconsistent. In Season 2 of DS, they applauded Todd's cartonish wipe room as DS Rock Star quality. This year Tracee's room was dished as cartoonish, I disliked both, but not sure why one year it is outstanding and another it is horrible. Secondly, why are the contestants so into copying past constestants work? This year is a true dissapointment all around, including the judging.

Absolutely, the judges were fickle. First it wasn't enough, then it was too over the top. I'm sure the designers are feeling a little confused right now. I sure am.

I liked Jennifer's room, but if I didn't know it was suppose to represent a country, I don't think I would have recognized it for that. The same could be said for Stephanies. Really, all of them, except Mickey V's. I could see that had Asian flavor from the get go, but the judges didn't like it??

My vote right now is for Mickey V and Matt. I know Matt did not do as well this week, but his work in the past still counts. He has a gift. Mickey seems like a nice guy and sure seems at ease with the camera. After all that is a big part of it. I like them both.

Trish, I just don't think I would like as a host. She does not seem genuine. I don't think anyone in America would vote for Tracee, but then what we are seeing here are shades of Robb from last years show. They kept him far to long for the "drama" as well.

When you can pick your design, it should be a no brainer. He could have picked USA and everything goes here. All the rooms fit, his would have made him safe at least, but what was with "I want my mommy" Thanks for turning me off.

I thought the purpose of this show was to find a Design Star, not the next drama queen. Tracee's vulgar attempt at designing a room was a joke. This is exacerbated by the fact the she is a heartless woman who laughs at others misery. She gives the show a bad taste in my mouth. Judges, step up it up and get rid of this hapless creature trying to disguise herself as a "designer".

It seems that they are allowing Tracee stay just for the drama aspect of things. I didn't think any one room was great but Michael was not the only one who missed the boat and made a generic room. Based on her history of bad design Tracee should have gone.

I do agree, though, that no one is really standing out. I don't know if there is 1 Design Star this year and last year it was a real toss up between Todd and Kim.

Josh as always it's great to see your sparkling smile! I had a vague feeling of disappointment after last night's episode. I admired Jennifer's painting but her room overall was meh. Trish just seems to be the same--good, but no surprises with her designs. Tracee is childish. I didn't like the look of glee on her face when Michael was criticized. Mikey was good. I was glad to see Matt did not get axed; I'm pulling for him. Stephanie is the unknown factor. I hope Michael learned from his DesignStar experience. I'm looking forward to next week.

I'd like to know who picked these people in the first place to supposedly be the best of the best! There isn't one personality worth watching, no matter who wins. Out of 1000's who entered, is this the best HGTV could find? What a disappointment. Talent aside, of which there is little, this year HGTV wasted everyone's time. How sad to think any one of these people will be watched if they win! I've already seen enough. Been there, done that. I'm through watching!

I think Tracee should have gone home, too. Her "Venice" was hideous!

Now, Jennifer - there's our STAR!

Once again Tracey failed miserably. It looked like cardboard cutouts. That would be great for a high school play, but not real life design. Send this woman home. I realize that Mike got to pick his country and still did nothing that said "Spain", but at least he had a viable room that was attractive. I wasn't impressed with any of them this week. Only one contestant actually made their room look like the country they had.

I'm sorry but, this decision sucked!!! Really, what were the judges thinking when sending Michael home instead of Tracee ( which by the way looked like something designed by one of my sixth grade students!)... Tracee has flunked every design so far... and Michael has always been in the top designers. To be fair, yes the room didn't look like Spain, but being Mexican I can tell you that both Mexican theme rooms didn't capture Mexico's essence at all. Stephanie's room was nice, but it could have also been Ibiza, which is Spain... so I'm confused...if Michael would have done something as random as Stephanie's room, would he be saved and praised just like her!!!! Very Bad Move! ;(

Where michael went wrong is .that Spain has arnces and terra medeterrenian red colors and every thing was mostly green in the room ; he could have arched the windo he painted instead of square ...

Third season and not seeing what popped for me in the first season - creativity, and not average but over the top. Though am seeing promising in some of the designers, I am disappointed that Tracee is still there, esp after tonights episode, her room looked like a boring out of wacked cartoon. This is her third time to be on the bottom and she is still kept. I don't understand this. Michael yes, immature, but he does show talent, felt that he should have been given another chance, as Tracee has had three - but then again, we as the audience are just seeing some of the footage, so not sure what all went on, and I do trust the judges. So will wait it out but iof Tracee is on the bottom again next week and doesn't go home, I will be disappointed. But will see as time goes on what star will shine.

tracee did a terrible job. she needs to go now! i couldn't understand the first round, the second round was terrible, and this round was just disappointing. mikey V is definatly one of the two that will be in the last round. i think the final four are Mikey V, Stephanie, Matt, and Jennifer. i know michael isn't the best, but he at least should have stayed one more round. i don't know if it's just me, but i think the next two to go are Tracee and Trish.

Glad to see the backstabbing little whining full of himself baby GO HOME. should have went home in the first round. Tracee is not the villain Michael was. There hasn't been a true star since season one when DAVID won. He rocks. He has class and integrity.

I feel that the only reason that Tracee is being kept on Design is because of her controversy. She is soooooo vain and melodramatic (it is television); but she clearly from episode I has no distinct talent. She needs to go.

These are the best designer's in the country? Just doesn't seem to be any real design star in the bunch! So disappointing this season...just no SPARKLE!!!

Loved hearing and seeing Josh again! His comments were right on. Broke my heart to hear Michael saying he needed his mother. Had to agree with the judges, though.

Posted by trish agnew – June 30, 2008 12:07 AM

I'm wondering how the judges missed noticing and/or commenting on the fact that the Gondola bed Tracey created was BENT OUT OF SHAPE on the right headboard side. If you look at the pictures, the right front curl of the headboard is bent over, the rest are standing straight. Totally unacceptable. Yet not one of the judges commented on it. She should have gone home for that alone. Are they keeping her because she creates drama (translate to fights)? Sigh.

Tracy's room looked like a set for the high school play, a victorian mystery. Trish had a good looking room but it looked more Italian than mexican and Steph's beautiful painting came across as more Mexican.
They're just keeping Tracy for the contrast she provides, otherwise everyone would be too equal.

tracee has needed to go for some time and this is so pathetic and i think michael deserved to stay

Posted by krissy – June 29, 2008 11:08 PM

No one was as good as last year. Makes you wonder. Judges are fickle first they complain the theme wasn't in the rooms then complain it was too much in the Thai room! DebV

Posted by debv – June 29, 2008 11:07 PM

Tracee deserved to go home after the first night. I was not a fan of Michael's, but at least his room had a little class - Tracee's room tonight looked like a cartoon, just as one of the judges stated. How could they let her stay - again?

Posted by bnolan – June 29, 2008 10:52 PM

We don't have a Design Star this year. They should all GO

Posted by Patricia Hall – June 29, 2008 10:36 PM

Mikey V got a pretty bad wrap. He had the best room. Steph has talent but her & Jennifer surely weren't the best this time. Trish's room was boring. I was disappointed in Matt but maybe he just tried to be so over the top that he went too far off the map.

Michael deserved to go home. He was a pot stirrer---Tracy will probably be next. Mikey V will probably be a contender in the last round.

THANK GOD they got rid of Michael...He was such a waste of spot. There were more people so derserving of his place. Vern Yip saw something in him....I WONDER WHAT IT WAS?????

tracey deserved to go home tonight. not michael. she needs to go NOW
