What's all this about Sparkle Josh ! I don't know why he's even on tv nontheless a judge ... I feel it's unfair for the HGTV Showdown , the judges are the ones that voted him out !! Hello ! He could watch the videos and who voted him out ... and I feel it's unfair that he's a highlight for Kim . She's the one that won . She should have been the judge for the HGTV Showdown . And I would have voted for jenny . Her personality just glows when she smiles ...Though I would have loved to see Matts' ideas . He thinks out of the box . I think they both win in my book .

I love HGTV. I watch it whenever I can, however, my least favorite show is Myles of Style. I have no idea how Kim was chosen as a designer. Everything I've seen of hers is off the wall and just strange. Not a good choice.

As for Jennifer.... another bad choice!

This season didn't have the "WOW" factor that last season portrayed. I wanted Matt to win as I can't get past Jennifer's "too" bubbly schtick. I would have loved to pair Matt and Mikey V. together and have their own show. They are down to earth without all the "bubbly" which can get old fast.

Hi Kim,
My My My there are so many haters out in cyberspace. I thought this was about Matt and Jen
Loved both. Unfortunately there was only one winner. I love your show you are by far excellent and keep doing what you are doing. My other favorites are David, Vern Yip and the guy
who does rate my space. Love, peace, and happiness.

Season three was great. However, watching how all the contestants ganged against Tracee was disturbing. I am surprised that Vern who appears to be so saintly did not intervene or comment on the bullying behavior of ostrazicing someone.

I did vote for Jen, think she will be a great addition to the team. Matt would also be great, it was a hard choice... As far as Kim Myles, love what she does. Love Vern, David, Lisa and the teams on Design to sell. Clive has a great personality as a host. He makes me laugh along with Lisa, thats my favorite design team but do like all the other design teams. Good night Carol

Lots of luck with Jennifer.
She is inarticulate.
Matt was. His designs might not have been absolutely the best, but at least he has the qualities of a host and uses good grammar.

As for Kim Myles - oh good grief. I watched her first show where she used a lamp shade for a chandelier.
I am absolutely NOT impressed with her designs.
And she has this attitude of being capable and I don't think she really is.
I've tried, by the way, to comment at the Designer's Challenge or whatever it was called after the Design Star finale?
OHHHHH PLEEEEAAASEEE. Vern hid the dog under a table? Covered with an ugly striped table cloth...call the ASPCA.
And those butterflies on the fireplace mantle?
What the heck was that? And picture frames on every single surface.
Cynthia was robbed. Robbed!

I have to say that this season just did not do it for me. David Bromstad was great and I really like his show. Kim and Jen...well, let's just say this whole contest reminds me of American Idol and doesn't have much to do with design talent. IMO it's time for HGTV to revamp the whole thing. Please dream up some new ways for the designers to DESIGN. Too much time spent on making things from scratch, coming up with wacky ideas that no one would want in their home. It shouldn't have to be about who can think up the weirdest design idea. Trish should have won because she really does have a good eye for great design. Matt's nice, but again, it just should not be a popularity contest. Also, PLEASE get some new judges - not that they are bad, it's just time for some fresh eyes. KEEP Clive - he is a national treasure!

I wanted both Matt and Jennifer to be in the final two; however, I wanted Matt to win. Jennifer is too "bubbly" to the point of being phoney. I will probably watch her first show, but doubt that she will hold my interest. She didn't seem really happy when she won. I believe that Matt would have brought a lot more to a show, since he is multi-talented. Moreover, I think Matt and Mickey V would make a wonderful team. I also agree that season one was the best season. I did not watch any of season two; however, I am not a huge fan of "Myles of Style." I can't stand the way she holds those little shopping bags; however, whether we like her or not, she still gets her paycheck. I wonder if I could be her assistant and carry those bags. I would...if the price was right ;-)

Posted by Adriane – August 5, 2008 9:46 PM

I believe that Mikey V and Trish should have been the final two. I believe Mikey, however, should have won! I do not like Jenn's designs and will not watch her show. How can someone who was in the bottom all those times win? Looking at the last challenge Matt really did a better job than she did. However, both of them are not as good as the first two I mentioned.I hated the swoops. I believe she is a one trick pony and will not watch her show.

Posted by Carol – August 5, 2008 7:53 PM

Iam so sad for Matts loss, I never missed a single episode, I rec all shows for the design this season, I will erase them all, I will never vote again, willhope a rival show can pick Matt & put him neck to neck with Jens show. I watch HGTV all the time, I will switch it off for Jenn! All of us arenot swayed by her painting on the walls. she need to think outside the box!

Posted by koe – August 5, 2008 8:40 AM

Well, I watched almost every minute of the series and am just ticked off that Jen won. There is no possible way I'm going to watch a program where she is supposed to be the designer & host. I find that nervous giggle/laugh annoying, her designs predictable, and her "one trick pony" wall painting a big yawn.

I really loved Matt and his design - except for that Thai thing! He is such a wonderful person - giving her Mickey V. first in New Orleans 'cause Jen would need him more. Matt's designs in New Orleans was beautiful! His design reminds of the kinds of things I used to Vern Yip doing!

I even got my husband hooked on the series this time and when Jen won he was ticked off that he'd spent all that time and interest only to see her win.

As for Myles of Style, I watched part of a couple of shows and her "style" is just odd and her use of styles called things like "Miami Modular" just weird!

Posted by Laura – August 4, 2008 10:38 PM

I really wanted Matt to win, although I did not mind Jennifer. I did love her artwork on the walls. However, i certainly hope the powers that be can, like, get the like out of her vocabulary! Like, wow!

Posted by Arlene – August 4, 2008 9:35 PM

I'm glad that Matt lost. His designs were awful. I hated those four black chairs together. Also that fancy chandelier did not go with those wooden blinds and table. He never should have been in the final two. And Kim. When did she get to be a good designer. It must have happened since her last show because that mess she calls decorating is a joke. She had one good design, and it was the room in Hawaii. I will always believe that Will did it. She has no talent, but she takes apart everybody else's designs. She said that the designers didn't take risks. Neither did she. She stood around and rode on everyone elses coat tails. She should have been eliminated after that white carpet in a coal miners home. She will definitely be cancelled.

119264 All Jen can do is PAINT! Mat was a genius! We all watch David Bromstad...why watch Jen?????

GIVE MATT his OWN SHOW!!!!!

Posted by Candace – August 4, 2008 4:04 PM

I am So Sad That Matt didn't win. I also think that Jen won just because she is cute not that she has any depth as a designer. She is an artist - yes but not a designer. Matt should get a show. We need some fresh male design stars - there are too many women who have basically the same type of show. As for Joey I think he was dismissed because he had that heavy accent. It was a calculated move - he also should get a job on one of the shows as a carpenter.

gosh, i hate to say it, but at least i'm not alone!!! kim's show is AWFUL. 'no money?' 'buy a lampshade and put it on the ceiling, not that much money? get an old lampshade and put IT on the ceiling (add ribbon), not ANY money? get a lampshade from trash, add whatever you've got and put IT on the ceiling . . .' ARGH!!!! i think she won on her ability to sit back and let the rest argue. she should not have won. but why is sparkle josh back?? and talk about no risk (this year OR last!) -- there was NO design anywhere (except the LOSER!!), it was just paint and 'get it in . . .' will the show be canceled if the ratings are not good? i always wonder how the other people on hgtv get these shows? they just get noticed? mikey v: 'DO YOU HAVE A POA??' 'NO?' OUTTA HERE!!' good grief! and that little twit (i know you know who i'm talking about), he ran out crying, and VERN RAN AFTER HIM!! what does THAT say of VERN? he's mean and [dumb] and does shows on deserving 'people that deserve because they are not fat now' (paaaaaalease!). seems david set the tone, and nobody has heard it -- yet. i'm off to do my audition tape . . . shabbysherrie.com

I watched all three seasons. This year the comments were that it is the best "season ever", just because all the participants were designers, carpenters, etc. something related with design, but in my opinion season 1 is the winner. It had good challenges and good designs. We could see more of participants individual work. I love David. His show for me is one of the best of HGTV. His designs are awesome and I love his signature arts. Season 3 did not catch my enthusiasm. I was not happy with the designs. They did not look superior. The majority looked like students were doing it and not professional designers. My favorite designer was Mikey V. He has everything a designer needs: good ideas, creativity, excellent taste and he is a carpenter too. I still do not understand why he was voted off when he was one of the designers working so hard in that kitchen. He knew what to do and he did it. He also taught some of the designer how to do some of the improvements.
Good luck Jen. Let's see in January if you are really a design star!

Posted by Ivy – August 4, 2008 11:12 AM

First of all I would like to congradulate Jen for her victory. She does have talent and she is very good in front of the camera. But, that said, I did vote for Matt several times and hoped that he would have won. He seems to handle all the things that he faced in his challenges very calmly and with direction. I think there should have been more individual challenges instead of the group challenges so we could have gotten a better idea of what each designer could do. It's not fair to pick one person from a group that should go home because the design wasn't executed the way it should. They really should have a show with both of them as cohosts and yes, Micky V as thier carpenter. And can anyone find out why Micky V wasn't at the last show in person? Another idea would be to have the Design Star show run like American Idol which lets the audiance choose every week who leaves the show. Maybe they can do that next year just for a change up. And what's this about David Bs show being aired in the middle of the night. He's a very good designer also and gets a rotten time slot. Booo.

Posted by Bill – August 4, 2008 10:40 AM

I am so sad--stunned, actually-- that Matt didn't win...he is a beautiful person, humble, kind, charismatic...he just glows with a love of design and is so genuine! I would have LOVED to watch his show on HGTV! Honestly, I think Jen is adorable and has nice ideas with color especially, but I think Matt has so much more to offer, with his design ability AND his carpentry skills and creative thinking. I just loved him from the beginning...I know his future will be bright, but WHAT a great addition to HGTV he would have been.

Posted by Carolyn – August 3, 2008 11:26 PM

I am so happy the Jenn won. She has great design ideas she just need enough time to execute them. I am sure she will improve over time. I would have her design my home she has a much softer touch to her designs, as opposed to Matt (I love him too he's a darling) his designs are a too heavy, namely: color choices, and furniture choices.
CONGRATULATIONS JENN........... ALL THE BEST FOR THE FUTURE

Posted by Claudette – August 3, 2008 11:11 PM

I tuned in about 5 minutes after it started. Why was Mikey V not on the show?

Posted by david – August 3, 2008 10:30 PM

I'm bummed that Matt didn't win. I liked Jenn too but Matt really rocked that last challenge. All of his rooms were phenomenal and his energy was inspriring. Jenn's cabinets looked good but the rest of the rooms were bland. I think Matt's concepts would make for incredibly interesting television.

Posted by amyr – August 3, 2008 10:16 PM

Of course Jennifer would win. Who watches these
shows? Women. Shows how women don't think
Matt us twice the person Jennifer is but he just didn't laugh enough. These shows are a farce!
Judges know more than the fans But in the end a bunch of "people" decide. Too Bad. Doesn't matter what type of talent you have....

Posted by Marilyn – August 3, 2008 10:13 PM

I vote for Jen, she is great and fun to watch. Matt's designs are boring and he does not have good camera presence. I wouldn't watch him.

I agree also with someone else's post about Kim, I think her designs are awful and I can't stand her show!

Posted by SHARON – August 3, 2008 9:58 PM

The bar was definitely raised this year. There are not many good shows on HGTV any more. Vern Yip is VERY good and I always watch his show. Kim Myles designs are terrible but her opponent last year was pretty bad. I was waiting to see who Kim voted for and go the opposite. If her ratings or any of the other shows are low ratings why not give a show to both Jen and Matt and cancel the shows with poor ratings.

Posted by Faith – August 3, 2008 8:21 PM

Hey Kim!

I just have to say that I absolutley LOVE your show on HGTV!! I just got done watching it actually! But, I would have to agree with you on either one being a great addition to the HGTV "crew" =0)
I would LOVE to see Jen's incorporation of her artistic ability on her own show.
and Matt's ability to pretty much solve any problem like hiding that kiln in his parents house, that was so neat.

Only a few more hours until we find out who won! =)

p.s. I'm glad that you won last year, you were my fav!

Posted by Heather Greninger – August 3, 2008 7:24 PM

I have to say, I love both of their designs and their originality. They seem like they could do a great show together. PLEASE Design Star, pick both of them!!

Posted by barb – August 3, 2008 6:03 PM

I voted for Jennifer I loved her graphic art designs. I love those red cabinets it was such a Wow! factor. I did not like the bamboo curtains to me it just looked cheap. That is one of the reasons I voted for Jennifer. I think they are equally talented but I felt that her design was a bit stronger.

Posted by Eileen – August 3, 2008 12:11 PM

I AGREE WITH MOST OF THE PEOPLE HERE.  I THINK BOTH MATT AND JEN SHOULD HAVE A SHOW TOGETHER WITH MIKEY V AS THE ONE AND ONLY CARPENTER.  THAT WOULD MAKE HGTV EVEN MORE ENJOYABLE TO WATCH.

Posted by elvira – August 3, 2008 2:05 AM

I think that Jennifer is gone a be the next hgtv star due to the fact that she was at the top of everything no matter what circumstances she did faced on this competition. Her strong feelings of what she likes doing best it was there for her and i do strongly beleieve that she can accomplish anything at this point. Just looking at this family in New Orleans and looking at the smile and tears of emotion that she put into this family that urgently was in need of their home beign redesing and completely finished and by giving them back waht they really need it makes for me that Jennifer is my new hgtv star no matter if she wins or not. so my vote always will be for Jenn.
Congratulations! to Hgtv for this great new finale of a new Hgtv Desing Star Challenge. Congratulations to Jennifer and Matt for just beign there. Good luck to you both. For me is Jennifer my choice...

Thanks for letting me share this moment with you.

Sincerely yours...

Hey is it too late to vote for Mikey V? I think it was unfair he never got to design a room on his own. He also took it for the design Tracee screwed up..

Posted by Celine – August 2, 2008 10:09 PM

none of the design star video's will load properly on my computer. what did kim have to say?

Posted by henri – August 2, 2008 10:08 PM

You people that are talking bad about Kim should be ashamed of yourselves. I'd like to see YOU do what she does. I like Kim and enjoy her show. Loved it when David Bromsted won also. Now, this year? I voted for Matt. Stephanie is good a decorating, but Matt is good at designing and building and hosting. I hope Matt joins the ranks of David, Kim and then Matt.

Posted by Holly – August 2, 2008 7:20 PM

First off, I like Kim's show.. I think she is adorable. The thing that most people do not think about, is every designer has their own twist on things. It's true though, if you have a client that wants a certain look, you have to know how to do that for them. I thought matt was ok, But being artistic myself, I loved he wall paintinfg that Jen did. Different painting techniques always adds to a room, IT also depends on what your looking for. I wish them both the best. I love hgtv...

Posted by Linda – August 2, 2008 6:59 PM

I really like Matt better. Up until the last performance I was undecided but kind of leaning toward Jen until Matt brought out his final, outstanding performance. It was awesome.

I also looked back at his other projects. He really was able to think outside the box. Consider the bedroom challenge. He was able to create privacy in a bedroom that had several people in the bedroom through his design. Vern Yip said it was the single best design solution he had ever seen. That is why Matt has my vote.

Posted by Michael – August 2, 2008 6:02 PM

I voted for Jennifer, because on the first show with the interviews she and her husband both tried out for the show. So I know that if she were to get the show, she'd include her husband somehow.

Posted by Heather Lyons – August 2, 2008 2:27 PM

Go JEN!!!

Posted by Brenda – August 1, 2008 5:21 PM

Last year I knew without a doubt that Kim should be the winner and she has proven that. This year is hard because Jennifer and Matt each offer something different. Matt's innovative and a problem solver, while Jennifer is creative, with designs that inspire the viewer to try it. So I voted for both of them! They should both host together(and let Mikey V be their carpenter!)

Posted by Denise – August 1, 2008 10:37 AM

Quote: I voted for Matt because he has the personality that I would most like to watch on a regular basis. Design Star is much more than winning the challenge which I think that he did, but it is also about the person who can bring an informative and entertaining design show to the viewers. I believe that Matt would be the better host and he has proven to be the best overall and consistent designer.

Perfectly stated! I voted for Matt as well. However, Matt will go on to do great things in the design world even if he does not get a TV show. He might be better off not having a network interfere or stifle his design innovations.

Posted by Joy – August 1, 2008 10:05 AM

This is my first time watching Design Star and I must say I enjoyed all the creativity and the drama each week. I have to say that I liked Matt's designs a bit more than Jennifer's. Jenn used the same color scheme (muted green) in the New Orleans challenge and her sister's house, which to me did not show much originality when it came to color choice. Matt on the other hand changed his colors from room to room which I thought lended to more interest and eye popping qualities. Matt also has the carpentry knowledge which is a great skill. Not only can he design, he can also lend a hand when the chips are down and deadlines are fast approaching. That to me is an added plus.

Posted by Jill Davis – August 1, 2008 8:41 AM

I voted for Jennifer because I liked her rooms much better in the last two challenges. I loved the red cabinets in that kitchen, they rocked! I love Matt's personality but his rooms I did not like as much. The craft room/game room that he did for his parents was just plain awful. I was very disappointed. Jenn's room for her sister was terrific and so was the New Orleans house. And Kim....don't listen to anyone who puts you down. You are wonderful and I love your show and your ideas!!

Posted by April – August 1, 2008 6:47 AM

Ilove kim's show. her designs are great. Also, i have always been a fan of Vern Yip. He is a very good judge and designer. I hope his show goes on for several years. David Bromstad is good also. But Vern is a very caring person.

Posted by billie jean howard – July 31, 2008 8:36 PM

Hey Kim,
I love what you've done with your show!!!! I am a huge fan. I voted for Jennifer, as I felt she was a little more talented in her design. She was more consistant throughout the season, where Matt had some great ideas and then fell short, in my perspective, a few times. Mikey V and Trish were also talented. As far as negetive comments about Kim, LIFE IS JUST TOO SHORT!

Posted by Michelle – July 31, 2008 7:00 PM

I love Kim and what she's doing this year. Sometimes I feel as if I'm not going to like her design when she initially presents it, but once she puts everything together, it always comes out to be nothing but fabulous. This year I would vote for Jennifer. She reminds me of David Bromstad. Not only is she a designer, but she can draw too. Plus, her touch is very warm, as well as thoughtful. I loved the coffee table with the chairs underneath. Go Jenn!

Posted by Melanie Washington – July 31, 2008 1:19 PM

I am really disappointed that my fellows HGTV viewers would bad mouth Kim that way. I'm reading the comments to see how everyone felt about this year's competitors and you are talking bad about Kim. I love Kim and her show. If you like her or not, you have to give it up to her and what she has accomplished and respect that!

Ok. Jen or Matt, they are both awesome! I can't choose. I loved both of their rooms. They both listened to the families and gave them exactly what they needed. Good luck to both of them!

Posted by Sheila – July 31, 2008 12:13 PM

I didn't vote this year (both are wonderful and I'd be happy with either) but I voted over and over again for Kim last year. And I still LOVE Kim's show. She's real and willing to try bold concepts; she takes risks. I love that her carpenter has a NY accent.

Posted by Hilary from Seattle – July 31, 2008 6:02 AM

I believe that I prefer Matt over Jen. He has a master carpenters skill that is a treat to watch on any design show. I can go to a museum and see art. Don't take me wrong. Jen did some really awesome designs, but I feel over all Matt would be the better choice.

Posted by Terri – July 31, 2008 3:52 AM

I do not care for Myles of Styles by Kim. She never has made the show exciting and I don't care for the things that she pulls together. I watched one show and part of another and then I do not watch HGTV when her show is on.
I think Matt will do wonderfully. People will like his work better than Kim on her show.
I can't see HGTV picking up her show for more episodes after this initial run.

Posted by Sue – July 31, 2008 2:38 AM

I hope Jen wins, she has a real talent for pulling it altogether. I loved the leaves on the wall at her sister's. I think Mat is good but thought his
parents hobby room was ordinary. He can build but the show is not all about building it's about
design. Jen is definately the better Host. I have felt that she has a real presence on camera. I am sick to death too of red walls and reruns. Come on people there is a whole spectrum of color and different styles than just contemporary. Show me
something different.

Posted by Roxanne Q – July 31, 2008 1:27 AM

I missed the vote! I recorded the final challenge and watched it too late. But, that said...I have no idea who I would have voted for had I been able to. Unlike last year where I knew who I wanted to win...this year I have to go with a tie. Both could bring so much to a show. I agree with the people who commented on having the pair host a design series. Both are winners in my eyes. Great job to both Matt and Jennifer!

Posted by Stacey – July 30, 2008 10:12 PM

I love Jen's designs and personality. She's so much fun to watch! Hope she wins because I plan to be a loyal viewer.

Posted by Tracy – July 30, 2008 9:33 PM

HI Kim
I'm one of your biggest fans, was so glad you won.I love David also, infact I watch hgtv 24/7 unless grandkids are here. Enough of that, I loved both Matt and Jen, but I thought Jen had more interesting disign. So I hope for the best for her and Matt, Goodluck. I also agree with others that this year wasn't as good as the last two were.

Posted by Sereta F. – July 30, 2008 8:29 PM

Why can't they both win--they would make a great team!

Posted by Sharon – July 30, 2008 8:15 PM

It was a truly hard decision to both for Matt or Jen. I would like to see both of them have a show together or at least appear every now and again on an episode. In the end I voted for Jennifer because I looked at the overall presentation, I do not think she will get stuck in painting patterns all the time, because if you remember she usually is good about really listening to the homeowner's wishes and desires. But, I was truly UPSET when the judges did not give MICKEY V a chance, he is good, precise, organized, timely, & efficient. I hope to see him again given a chance to design on HGTV. As for Kim Myles my mother thinks you are awesome and she has very good taste. So far as the last viewer and it's comments look again and look harder because you are missing something, BABY. God Bless you all.

I voted for Matt...who should collaberate with Mikey V! Other than their little "cat fught" from PANIC, I think they work well. The winner could also "hire" the runner-up as their personal consultant.
Gotta say it, Kim, I am glad you won, but I really don't like some of your styling choices...stripes covering the ceiling was my last episode.

Posted by Rick – July 30, 2008 6:40 PM

HEY MATT!, I really like your design ideas!!!! You can come decorate my home or a room anytime. I recently applied to get a "Tostitos" make over from the Kim Myles but I hope I'm not a winner I like your style of design and I'd rather you come design my living room area/walk way. "Think about it". Yours Truly, Fan of your design

Posted by Cindy – July 30, 2008 2:27 PM

Kim,go back to doing hair--start with your own, don't even try to talk about design, you are out of your zone, turned you off after the stripes on the ceiling (yuk).Give up and let MATT have your space.Your fifteen minutes of fame is over.

i have to agree a lot of the other comments, i had a really hard time deciding who to vote for. they are both soo good, and actually they both work so well together.. the way matt gave trish to jen to help with her kitchen was so selfless.. i think they would be perfect together.. i believe that no matter who wins, they should either have a show together or both be offered their own show at the least. at least give them both a chance.. by the looks of it, they both would have tons of fans.. leave it to the ratings to decide... i know i would love to have both of them do my rooms in my house, and i would watch both of them on tv.. i hope they both get a show.. they both have strengths.. matt can build anything and still pull off wonderfull design and jen can design a killer room and put in artistic touches.. it's just so hard.. plus they are both so nice and easy to watch.. oooo please hgtv, put them both on.. give the viewers what they want.!!!!!

Posted by jennifer garner – July 30, 2008 11:18 AM

Matt's got my vote! I love his designs and his ability to build awesome projects! Of course, I love Jennifer's painting ability. I have to agree with prior posts that a show with the two of them together would be outstanding! Maybe HGTV will do a surprise twist and do it. My fingers are crossed! However, Matt has my vote!

Posted by Erica – July 30, 2008 10:04 AM

This could be a new concept of having cohosts that create. The best of both worlds - I agree with some of the others, make it a team! They have the greatest qualities put together.

Thanks for HgTV, a fresh air oasis, 24/7 for good, inspiring, wholesome viewing. It's not only much fun and entertaining, but very useful and educational as well. Wish I could get Designed to Sell to my home right now.

Design Star gives me something to look forward to every week. It's very good that you have the show on the web, as once in a while I miss a crucial episode and viewed it on HGTV site. Thank you.

Jen and Matt are both very desireable as our next design stars, and to adding Mikey in the mix is even more perfect. I think you would have a winner of a show with these three. They have talent beyond the ordinary, and make a Super-Design Team.

Posted by Alexandra – July 30, 2008 9:10 AM

WOW....what a great year. I think both Jen and Matt are super. This was a hard decision to make and I agree with many that Jen and Matt should have a show together. I personally like Matt because of his way of putting unique building designs together. But, as I said this is a hard one to decide on.

Posted by Mary Lou – July 30, 2008 8:16 AM

I really do wish that they could both win as a team- they are both so good, and they work so well together. I thin HGTV should allow them to share a show, and they could take turns being the 'team leader'. They are both brilliant comfortable designers and I'd love either one to come decorate my home!

Posted by Barbara – July 30, 2008 2:45 AM

Several people have mentioned the white sofa. I loved it. As for being appropriate for children...you teach your children to be gentle in the livingroom. if they eat there, they need to be neat and careful. Besides, hasn't anyone heard of scotchguarding?

And red in the kitchen is HOT. Mine is close to that color and I feel such positive energy when I'm in there. If the homeowner requests a color, the true designer takes their wishes into consideration and works around it. I feel Matt did a wonderful job in his house, but he is somewhat pedantic.

As for Jennifer over-using her write on the walls technique, I don't see that at all. First, yes, she did it a couple times, but once was as a team effort, and totally different type of treatment. The leaf pattern on her sister's wall was brilliant. Did you notice the curtains matched? It looked like the leaves migrated off the curtains and twined along the wall...beautiful and just different enough to be a conversational piece. Even the children adored it, and not because she was their aunt. I don't think she would over use that, but it is so innovative and fresh.

Who did I vote for? Mikey V!!! He made a comment that he didn't really get to show what he could do and that was true.

In reality, it was very hard to chose between the two that are left. They are both equal in my sight, with pros and cons spread out between them. I tend to go with the other posts here, who suggest giving them a show in tandem. They both play to the other's weaknesses and strengths very well.

I voted for Jen. My daughter voted for Mat. In a perfect world, both would win...and have Mikey V as the carpenter!!!!!

Posted by S. williams – July 30, 2008 12:22 AM

I, personally, did not care for Kim's comments! She seems so full of her self anymore...one year on TV and she thinks she knows it all. I used to like her but not anymore! I won't even watch her show because she is too overbearing. What happened to you lady? Did winning go to your head?

Posted by Jan – July 30, 2008 12:01 AM

I can't decide!!! I've gone up to the voting page twice already and I still can't make up my mind. Maybe one show for the two of them? Or a show each? And I love the suggestion of Mikey V as their carpenter. I would watch any show he showed up on!

Posted by Marta – July 29, 2008 11:49 PM

Hard call, loved watching the show. I think the judges helped us truly get down to the true designer 4 and then 2. Both Matt and Jennifer were great and will be wonderful designers no matter if they have a show or not. Jennifer's design was great for the family and I think won on design BUT I voted for Matt because his design was not only good but I believe in Servant Leadership...and Matt had that. Not sure if you need that for a design show BUT you defiantly need it for leadership. Thank you HDTV for teaching me something whenever I watch.

Posted by B – July 29, 2008 11:01 PM

MATT! MATT!! MATT!!! He really cares about doing it all, and doing it right. Jen's painted walls are pretty, but not every room calls for that. A "one trick pony" isn't a real design star - just someone with a good idea, over and over and over again.

Posted by Linda – July 29, 2008 10:10 PM

Hey Kim,
Love your show - so glad you won last year. GO GIRL! Re this year, if you look at Jen and Matt's last two challenges - and they were BIG ones - Jen definitely did the better job. Matt is a real LOVE but think he does get distracted at times and doesn't put in all the REALLY good stuff. So my vote is for Jen. Do agree with those that would like to see them both - at least in some episodes. Can't wait to see the final show!

Posted by most avid fan – July 29, 2008 9:15 PM

When will HGTV give its TV audience a break and cancel Kim Myles. Her mannerisms and presentations are talentless and irritating. Her telling everyone that she is here and all will be well is bad but not as bad as the hokey ideas she has for decorating. And that voice and continuous smile is like finger nails down a blackboard. Surely her producers are helping her and not just letting her run amuk. Or if they are helping, someone need to help them.

Posted by NMedlin – July 29, 2008 9:04 PM

Great season. I really enjoy the program. The past two years I knew exactly who I thought should win, but this year I'm at a loss!! Matt's greatest skill: problem solving and creative solutions. Jenn's greatest skill: artistic ability and use of colors. I agree, I'd like to see a show where they cohost and I would like a room in my home to be their first show. Can't wait for next season.

Hey Kim,
Love your show - so glad you won last year. GO GIRL!
If you look at Matt and Jen's last two challenges - and they were BIG ones, Jennifer definitely did the best overall. Matt is a real LOVE but think he sometimes gets too distracted and doesn't put in the REALLY good stuff.
Agree with those that would like to see them together - at least in some episodes. However, Jen is my choice for winner.
By the say, that one judge, Cynthia Rowley, is a royal pain. She is SO into herself. She should have HER show cancelled!
Can't wait until the winner is announced.

Posted by most avid fan – July 29, 2008 8:41 PM

I love them both!!!! I think they should have a show together with Trish and Mikey V. as frequent guest designers--but, don't invite Tracee. When she was a child, I'll bet her report cards said, "Doesn't play well with others!"

Posted by Judy – July 29, 2008 8:26 PM

Hey Kim,
Totally love you and was thrilled when you won your show! GO GIRL!
My pick is Jennifer - have looked at all Matt and Jen's designs - which will help in judging - and think she has the greater talent. Matt is just an overall LOVE of a guy - with talent - but think he gets too distracted at times to add the REALLY GOOD touches.
Also agree with those that suggest at least some shows with BOTH. Can't wait to see the actual winner.
By the way, that one judge, Cynthia Rowley, is a royal pain. She is SO into herself. SHE ought to have her show cancelled!!

Posted by most avid fan – July 29, 2008 8:13 PM

Well, I don't think that these designers are better than last season. I didn't think that either one, did much designing. The lack of accessories in both designs was disappointing.

I would be able to watch Matt over Jen for a new show. Jen is to much the same as other designers. With that said Matt needs to step it up.

Posted by Marie – July 29, 2008 7:54 PM

It was a tough call on who to vote for because both Matt and Jen are so good. I agree with previous comments that I would LOVE to see a show featuring the two of them together. They could work together, but take turns with one of them taking the lead role each week. I know it's dangerous to start this precedent for Design Star, but they truly would be good together. How about it HG?

Posted by Diana – July 29, 2008 6:18 PM

THIS IS WAY TOO HARD!!! I agree, HGTV should give the show to both of them with Mikey V. as the carpenter!

Posted by Jan Hoskison – July 29, 2008 5:58 PM

How can we choose? Jen and Matt both have their own great strengths, they work so well as a team, and they are DARLING on screen together!!! How about giving them a show to co-host?!! We love shows that offer more than one designers' point of view, it keeps it (and the hosts) fresh. We call for a tie!!! Oh, and we'd love to see Mikey V. as their carpenter!!!! Good luck to both designers, they both deserve it!

Posted by Mel – July 29, 2008 5:57 PM

Wow, what a difficult choice this year. I will feel so bad for whoever does not win because they are both so capable and have such warm personalities. I voted today for Jen only because I associate more with her designs. I'm not a contemporary design fan, so Matt's work isn't as appealing for my taste. He is the whole package though because he does his own building as well as the design part. Gosh, why can't they both win?

Posted by Barb – July 29, 2008 5:44 PM

Matt, from Episode One, has had the ingratiating smile and professionalism that keeps viewers. Every wall can't have hand-painted images. Matt has a level of sophistication that is sorely needed on HGTV versus the plethora of budget shows that are shown...and repeated. Some of us want a much higher level of design ideas.

This season choice was very difficult for me. On the first two seasons I had a definite favorite and voted for them. I was pleased that my choices won. I love David and Kim. This time I like both Matt and Jen. I guess I finally chose Matt because I thought the white couch and table were not for a bunch of kids. But if Jen wins I will definitely watch her show. I will be anxious for the next season.

Posted by Pat Taylor – July 29, 2008 5:20 PM

I had a hard time deciding on who to vote for. Both were incredible. I would invite either to decorate my home. I had to bring it all the way down to a minute detail. That is, I didn't understand why Jenn used a table that only sat 6 plus a small dinette. I heard her ask the family how many people eat together and she sort of promised them a BIG table but I don't feel she delivered on that. Whereas in Matt's design (even though minimalist.. I hate minimalist).. but the family did, he gave them an 8 seater plus he did what they liked, and I like it a lot as well. So even though I loved Jenn's design I had to vote for Matt.

Posted by Krista – July 29, 2008 4:52 PM

I feel both have good quailaty's and not so good quailaty's. Like Jen for example love the painting on the walls but she needs to have something a little bit more, you know. Also when she's hosting it makes me feel like she's always to rehursed and/or not rehuresed. I want whoever wins to sound very expeirenced. I don't like it that the judges like all this do it yourself stuff, I'd rather have a room like mikey v. and matt did in the first episode. With matt, I like contemporary but, I don't like his design take on it. I also don't like that matt always is wearing weird stuff on his head, if he gets his own show he should never wear those. I think it doesn't look professional. I was sad to see Trish go, but now I am voting for Jennifer, Sorry Matt!

Posted by designstarfan – July 29, 2008 4:35 PM

It is a tough pick between Matt and Jennifer. I would lean towards Matt for overall design choices. I am desperately trying to figure out where Stepanie purchased that HUGE wooden table. I want one for my home-except I choose not to paint it. Post answer if you have one. Thanks!

Posted by Jennifer – July 29, 2008 4:28 PM

Both Jen and Matt should both have a show. I am hoping a close vote will show HGTV that this is a good move. A joint show could also work.

Posted by jbook – July 29, 2008 4:25 PM

Hey Kim,

Tell HGTV to break the mold and have both Jen and Matt host a show together. They are great together. I'd also like to see Mikey V be the carpenter for them. What a fab show that would be!!!!

Posted by jody – July 29, 2008 2:54 PM

In my mind, Jen is the better designer. Matt's makeover had no design to it. Just like when he made over his parents' task room. What was that, a couch, 4 of the same chairs, and that small ottoman that looked totally out of place. They asked for a game table, he gave them that but there was no creativity in that room. This is a DESIGN show...and his makeovers sorely lack design. He's a great carpenter, but that's not what the show is about. I voted for Jen all the way. Go Jen!

Posted by Julia – July 29, 2008 2:52 PM

I really love Jenn's work. She is truly a designer. She leaves you with suspense of what is she going to do next. As far as the cabinets color, she did just what the homeowner asked for, red cabinets, so for the person or persons who said it was not a wise choice, talk to the homeowner. My vote is for Jenn. The sectional was an excellent choice and so was the dining table. She considered the space she was working with and it all balanced without being tight.

Posted by Marian – July 29, 2008 2:03 PM

I like the design skills of both of them, but I thought that throughout the show, Matt really came up with some unique and extraordinary design solutions that set him apart from everyone else.

Posted by Matt – July 29, 2008 1:47 PM

I was very disappointed in this years Design Star.
With the exception of D.Paul, Mikey and Scottie they were all back stabbers. I hope you get a better group of contestants next season. Shame on the judges for not commenting on the fact that they obviously ganged up on Tracee. I won't be voting for either Matt or Jennifer. I hope you can find nicer people for the 2009 Design Star as in other years.

Posted by Sandy – July 29, 2008 12:30 PM

This season went by so fast with much ado about nothing, but I think I will enjoy Matt on TV. I too, worry about all the wall decorating Jen does. She's an artist and it shows. Give me good design and a great product anyday. I hope the new show will be less do-it-yourself projects and more expertise resulting in a fantastic finished room(s).

Posted by Carol Ann – July 29, 2008 12:19 PM

I think Jen and Matt are both awesome!!! They compliment each other so well. I am having such a hard time choosing! Let's do a Design Team, Now that would be great show!!!

Posted by dee – July 29, 2008 11:09 AM

I thought Matt didn't really design anything. All he seemed to do was put in a kitchen and buy furniture for the living room. There was very little personality, I thought, in his design. The rooms seemed empty and not very welcoming. I don't always agree with Jen doing the patterns on the walls but overall I think she always makes the room comfortable and inviting.

Posted by Beth – July 29, 2008 11:08 AM

I like both Jen and Matt. But Matt is the better designer because of his color choices. The red on the cabinets was a put-off for me. Jen's couch and glass table with kids were wrong choices. She could have gotten two small couches and chairs with stackable tables that double as seating. Giving room for an expandable table.

Posted by BonnieL – July 29, 2008 10:28 AM

I think they both have great potential.Jen has a flare on her artistic skills but I don't feel she really listens to her clients its more like she has a need to put her"mark"on the walls instead of really giving the client just what they want.I love art on walls myself but I wouldn't give it to every client unless they told me they wanted it. Matt has great designs and carpenter skills and he listened to his client thats the biggest plus for him.I think he still needs to think a little about his designs before he puts them out there and then find out its not gonna work.Test test test colors first.

Posted by Terrylee – July 29, 2008 9:10 AM

I loved Jennifer's designs. however, a real no, no in Feng Shui is putting red in the kitchen, specially in the cabinets! Red is a very intense color and it can bring out anger, specially when the cabinets are opening and closing, a lot of movement w/the anger. It could create an energy of anger where the household members are bickering and fighting constantly. So...family that got the red cabinets, if you notice the kids constantly fighting and you are getting ready to get a divorce please, just paint the cabinets!
A designer must know the psychology of color not just b/c it looks pretty but b/c it affects people psychologically. Colors in the kitchen specially are delicate, they can affect how the food looks and the mood of the people.
I voted for Matt b/c of his out of the box details. I liked the wall sculpture and the light (although, how in the world are they going to clean all those crystals?)
Both are excellent designers.

I have already posted a comment and sure would like to vote but there is no black button on my computer screen. I can see a button on the TV ad picture but there is not one on my computer. Does anyone know why?

Posted by linda – July 29, 2008 8:29 AM

I voted for Matt. Nothing says southern more than a red dining room, and he gave them a fantastic space to live and entertain in. His solution to give them an open kitchen was awesome.

All along, I thought I would be voting for Jen, so I was disappointed with her choice for the couch - she should have measured. No one wants only a couch in their living space; too much like a college pit. In addition, I was terribly dissapointed with her choices in the dining room. How many people are in that family? In bad times, families need to eat at least 1 meal together and now they don't have a chance. I expected her to find a table outside the box (like on the first challenge). There is this fantastic architectural antique place in New Orleans - I know she could have found something really spectacular there - but she only shopped in retail stores. Ironically, Matt was able to find a table for 8. As Vern says "I consider that a failure."

Posted by Chris – July 29, 2008 8:14 AM

Thanks for fixing the voting buttons! Much better. I enjoyed both finalists, but feel Matt can bring something more unique to the HGTV lineup. My vote is for Matt!

Posted by Nancy – July 29, 2008 8:12 AM

I like both of them, however, the main deciding
factor for me was Jennifer's white sectional. It
is so inappropiate for that large family. Are
they to not eat and drink on it, while watching
movies? As the mother of six, now grown, children, I can tell you that the white sectional
is a joke. What on earth was she thinking!
Needless to say, I'll vote for Matt.

Posted by Sara – July 29, 2008 7:57 AM

I saw a couple of comments about Jen choosing a small dining room table. I thought so too, until I rewatched it with my kids on DVR tonight. She actually had two tables. The glass one in front of the fireplace is more like a game or entertaining table. Then there was a very large one she painted white with dark chairs in the real dining room. So don't let that affect your decision---she did realize they needed space for their big family. :0)

HI I THINK BOTH ARE GREAT I LOVE BOTH OF THEM AND IT WAS A TOUGH CHOICE FOR ME I WAS NOT SURE AT FIRST IF I WOULD VOTE BUT DECIDED TO RE LOOK THINGS OVER AND AS IT WOULD BE COOL FOR BOTH MATT AND JEN TO WIN I DONT THINK IT WOULD WORK LONG TERM I VOTE FOR JEN SHE HAS THE SENSE OF DESIGN ART STYLE AND SHE SEEMS TO BE A DESIGHNER THAT will always beable to pull things off and Her design talent and art will always be terrific and leave you wanting more of her and leave wanting to know what terrific desighn she is going to do next.

Matt is great in the since he is creative in ways of makeing and putting things together like carpentry/building etc thats Wonderful but he can leave you wanting more of something sometimes

Posted by Janet – July 29, 2008 3:50 AM

Though both have merits that warrant the title, Matt is the true winner. It was evident from the beginning . He has versatility, skill, foresight, creativity and warmth. In the interview when he said 'everything in my life has been leading up to prepare for this' he meant it. When someone says that, they are coming from a place of pure passion and it is their divine right to eventually have it. Matt,in every respect from the work, implementation to the hosting is authentic and he 'owns it'. This guy has the temperment to become a star because he could become a classic.I could see an entire market with the brand name 'Matt Locke' just like Calvin Klein or Hugo Boss. Jen is a sweetheart and major talent but doesn't have the solidity that Matt does.

Posted by jeff – July 29, 2008 3:38 AM

Hey,

did they both come thru, I thought this was a dead year. The only thing is I am so sick of red walls in almost every remake. I like a little but am tired of red walls. a little goes a long ways with me. I am not as crazy for Mat as I am for Jen but I did like his work much better this week. I saw red cabinets on another show and thought they were kind of neat, of course for someone else. I would have to repaint the red out in about a year. I love Kim and David both. I am an artist and love the way he just paints a picture. And Kim, I think is just so darn cute. I like alot of the things she does but I wouldn't work that hard to make all the stuff she does. I'll just buy it. I would have Jen do my whole house if I could. Oh yea webmaster please fix the page on Sparkle's page I couldn't respond the page moved by the time I got to the bottom. I absolutly love his coments makes me smile.

Posted by littlelill – July 29, 2008 3:21 AM

I really wish that the judges would have kept Mikey V and got rid of Matt. Remeber how in the last Design Star, David struggled with the camera until the end and then he came through. I just didn't like what Matt was doing and the "camera" was all you didn't like then why in the world didn't you judges remember the past contests and see what they became when given the chance. You didn't give him the same respect that you gave the others in other challenge contests. What's up with that?

Posted by cheryl – July 29, 2008 3:21 AM

Thank you for making the vote button clearer. I still can not decide who I think should be Design Star. I vote one and then the other.

I sure wish both Jen and Matt could team together....they would be just great. One is practical and one is artistic....wonderful combination. Let's have both.

Posted by Suzanne Haight – July 29, 2008 3:12 AM

Matt definitely has my vote. He's not only a problem solver, but his designs go the extra mile and he actually thinks outside of the box to make them get there (that incredible bed design in the first episode). The way he covered up that kiln in the last episode, seriously blew this potter away. I would love for Matt redesign my home studio! I think his final design was beyond awesome. He listened to his clients and kept it minimalist and contemporary, but at the same time was able to incorporate his own touch to the space. He made it warm and inviting and turned the raw space into a real home for the clients. Matt is an awesome designer and whether or not he wins this contest is irrelevant, because he is going to go to the top anyway! Awesome work Matt!

Posted by Jeannie – July 29, 2008 2:50 AM

Matt proved he is a great guy by giving Mikey to Jen to help her. However, if I have to choose, I choose Jen. I was SO surprised Matt didn't put shelving on the other kitchen wall & just left it blank! That's taking "minimalist" too far, to the point of sacrificing function. I did think Jen biffed it with the white couch (sure felt sorry for her as she was agonizing over it); although the family & judges seemed to like it, I thought it was a huge barricade to the space. However, in the end, her house was more livable. Also, I did not care for the redo Matt did at his parents' house. The red sofa didn't seem to be balanced by anything else in the room, so that didn't work for me. And the black chairs were just ugh. I LOVE the painting Jennifer does on the walls. Have to see more of her. Good luck Jennifer!! You have my vote!!

Posted by Linda R. – July 29, 2008 1:28 AM

I would like to see the contestants do more designs on their own - with the team approach used so much, it's hard to get a real feel for the individual designers - I suppose it makes for good TV to see the clashes of personalities, but I think more individual design is the way to go!!!

Posted by Bev G – July 29, 2008 1:28 AM

First of all, I disagree with those of you who think Kim Myles hasn't got what it takes to be a great design star. I think her designs get better and better. She's so unique, and it's refreshing.
As for this design star season, I can't decide. Just when I think I have a concern about Jen or Matt's design, it's not really a concern once I look at it again. I really believe the best solution is to let them do tag team design. Yeah, that's right...let them be the first Tag Team Design Duo! I don't think you'll regret it. Ratings would prove it.

They are BOTH great!!!! I voted for Jen. I like her painting designs on the walls. She does things I would like to do in my home.Matt's does listen and does a great job!! He was so sweet to take Lisa frist. What agreat guy. Maybe I'll try to vote for BOTH on my next vote!!!!! GOOD LUCK to both of you.

Posted by sandy dohallow – July 29, 2008 1:04 AM

In response to the critics on Jennifer's dining table and sofa choices:

First, there were TWO dining tables: the white painted table that seats six, and the glass table that seats four. That provided a total seating for ten people, without overwhelming the available space with a monster table that would seat ten (the tables were divided by the seating area).

Second, yes the sectional sofa was white---but as the judges observed in their walkthrough video (you can see it here on the site), it's covered in *leather*. I have leather furniture for the same reason: it's much easier to keep clean, even in white, than a fabric sofa. We have children, messy friends, and two dogs, and the leather furniture has been much easier to clean, and has been much more durable, than our prior fabric sofas.

I advise anyone with questions about her or Matt's rooms to watch the judges' walkthrough video---it's on the main Design Star page. I agree with all the judges' comments on both designers' contributions.

And, I forgot to mention before that, while Matt did a great job on his kitchen, I really loved how Jennifer incorporated the red in just the right amount in her kitchen: it looked wonderful, it made the countertops pop, but didn't overwhelm the space---and red is NOT my favorite color to use in a room, but she made me love it anyway.

Thanks,

Chris Allen

Hey Kim love you and your show!

I am so totally happy that the final two this year are such nice, talented people! Like you, I had a hard time deciding for my vote.

In the end, I chose Jennifer. I know Matt's rooms were minimalist... but in looking at the spaces, it felt as though they were too bare of accessories, *especially* the walls.

Also, I wish he'd been able to enlarge the pass-through window in the kitchen wall, to open it up: the space felt so enclosed, and since he had no upper cabinets on that side, I felt it would open up that galley style and make it less claustrophobic.

I loved his color choices, and especially the dining room table, chairs, and gorgeous light fixture... but still, the rooms felt a bit too bare, even for minimalism.

I also wish both he and Jen had had the opportunity to get some family photos taken, and to do something interesting with them in the spaces.

As for Jennifer, I know she had a problem with the sectional, but it was still a great choice for such a large family. Also, I liked how her wall stripes were neutral, because it creates less of a distraction if the family chooses to hang additional art or portraits on the walls. I *would* have liked to have seen a few pops of a warm color (like a terracotta or rust orange, balanced with a little plant-based greenery) just to lend additional life to the spaces.

In the end, they're both really good, and really sweet people---so for me, it came down to two things: one, which had spaces that appeared more "complete," and two, which family seemed happier with their space. In both these, Jen edged out Matt: her spaces felt more "homelike and complete," and though Matt's client said he captured her with the rooms, Jen's clients were ecstatic and in tears, literally jumping for joy.

I also reviewed their prior challenges, and again, Jen tended to think of the aesthetic whole and bring in more details, while Matt tends to focus more on the problems and not bring his creativity past them to the rest of the room. (Though I totally adored his genius solution to the bedroom in the first challenge.)

I hope, if Jennifer does win, that HGTV offers Matt a "problem solution spotlight" scenario on the website---I think his innovative construction ideas could help a lot of people, and offer something new and different on the website for viewers.

Back to your show to close this: one of my favorite things about your show is how you have such creative ideas in using simple, inexpensive items and materials to create beautiful pops in a room (especially the many light fixtures you've done). You're an inspiration---thanks!

Chris Allen

I'm proud to say that I will not be participating in the voting process of Design Star Season 3. I agree with the saying, "If it's not broken - don't fix it!" I don't know who was responsible for "raising the bar" this season, but it only brought down my enthusiasm to watch the show each week. The "so-called" experts didn't come off as well - in my opinion - as the amateurs of season 1 and 2. I was actually impressed with the average viewers of HGTV coming on TV and showing the talents they had without one degree to back up their ultimate dream job. This season provided the viewers with the "know it alls". The type that have experience in the area of design on a variety of levels. May I ask the question? Where's the excitement in that? I mean come on! People who have design jobs and degrees already have an upper hand over those who just watch and say "Hey, maybe I can do that too". This, by far was the worst season of Design Star I am sorry to have witnessed. Bring the bar down a notch and give the underdogs another shot. Neither Jen nor Matt brought outstanding vision to the tube. I feel if you are in it to win it - come off as though you are capable. . . that is if you actually have what it takes. The title Design Star should go to one that has the ability to out shine all other competition and bring something new, fresh, and innovative to the design world. I was extremely bored this year and wish that I used my hours as a devoted fan to something more worth while. But I'll say one last thing and leave it at this - DESIGN STAR SEASON 4 BETTER BRING BACK THE GLOW OF THE PREVIOUS SEASONS!

I was actually impressed with the average viewers of HGTV coming on TV and showing the talents they had without one degree to back up their ultimitate dream job. This season provided the viewers with the "know it alls". The type that have experience in the area of design on a variety of levels. May I ask the question? Where's the excitement in that? I mean come on! People who have design jobs and degrees already have an upperhand over those who just watch and say "Hey, maybe I can do that too". This, by far was the worst season of Design Star I am sorry to have witnessed. Bring the bar down a knotch and give the underdogs another shot. Hi! My vote goes to Jen because she had a whole lot of people to accomodate in her design. She made some bold and difficult choices that serve "her family" very well. Watching them on the big comfy sofa was awesome! I gotta say though, that Matt was also awesome, but I thought his challenge was a bit easier, having to accomodate only 3 adults. Not as difficult. Kudos to them both! Wonderful Design Star season!

Posted by Sue – July 29, 2008 12:21 AM

I love both but Matt gets my vote. I think he gave exactly what the family wanted. Kim I love your show!

Posted by Linda – July 29, 2008 12:19 AM

Jennifer is fabulous! Her red cabinets were great even though I didn't like the idea at first. If she had more red or primary colors it would have been garrish. She was careful to keep it tastful and make the Mom happy in her kitchen. I'm sure they can hang some colorful pictures later, now they have a wonderful backdrop. Matt is nice too but too mechanical for me, no warmth. The wife in his family may be happy but mother-in-law looked non-pulsed about it all and she seems to live there too!Matt's cabinets were dull and awful. The dining room color was depressing. In Jen's the white leather is fine, it wipes clean, I had five kids and hated black anything so used white too, be not afraid it's quite forgiving. Also there were two tables in Gen's design. Nice for kids doing homework etc and Mom can set other table for dinner.

This was a slightly bewildering choice because each of the two finalists have weaknesses and some blessed strengths. They are personable and very capable people. I chose Jennifer in spite of her error with the sectional sofa. It was so neat the way her design livened up the trio of rooms. Matt was somewhat unbalanced and kind of empty in spite of the great dining room. I think that time will prove them both very good designers if they are able to critique the work that wasn't quite as good as it could be.

I have watched this episode twice now and what is really fascinating is the way that Trish is coming onto Matt! She leaps full body into his arms, rolls up her shirt and into her sports bra to paint and then strokes his head at the end of the episode. She had trouble getting her wedding ring off--did she have trouble getting it back on?

There were NO LOSERS this time--both are winners. This was the ABSOLUTE BEST DESIGN STAR SEASON SO FAR!!. Both Matt and Jennifer are so good at what they do, have such great likeable personalities, and are both so comfortable in front of the camera. It was so beautiful that I actually WEPT to see what they were able to do, and for such deserving people. Thank you, Design Star--such a great show.

My vote is for matt. I like Jen but i think she is a poor planner. That flat screen should have been put on a mantel above the fire place and she would not have had a problem with the sectional. No need for a eat in area when there is a dinning area a few feet away! why did she not put 8 stools for that big counter overlooking the living room. elimanate that eating area. poorly planned, sorry jen. maybe next time. matt won overall.

For the first time we have TWO GREAT finalists. I love both. HGTV, please give both Jen and Matt their own shows - or have them share a show! I would tune in to watch both of them.

Posted by Sandy – July 28, 2008 11:44 PM

Over all the episodes, I think Matt showed the most ingenuity with design and problem-solving. In addition, he seemed more comfortable in front of the camera than Jenn by the last show. While Jenn's rooms have been very pretty and her paint technique is great, I'm not sure we'd see as much variety from her design as from Matt's ideas.

Posted by Alison – July 28, 2008 11:26 PM

I used to like Kim Miles but now I think she is way to full of herself. Trish and Mikey V together would have made a great show!!! With his carpentry skills and her tasteful desins it would have been great. Eventhough Jen should not have chosen a white couch for large family she should win because she is much more artistic overall. ~Karen

Whoever wins shouldn't have an ego because the talent is too close to call. The HGTV Exec's have to create the first double designer show.David B. from Season One (Color Spalsh)has the dullest sidekick on TV. At least if HGTV gave Jen and Matt a show, they wouldn't have to look for anyone else. This is the first time the talent was equal. Kim is doing a great job solo.Last year she blew away and I mean blew away The Surfer Dude.(Forgot his name)It would be fun to see Matt and Jen.I don't know who I'm voting for yet.Probably Jen.I loved the wall treatment.Yet, I loved Matt's furniture choices.
See!! That's why they should co-host.

Posted by Deborah – July 28, 2008 10:37 PM

I like them both really well. They're both talented. and down to earth. Lets hire them both. I voted for Jen, but I like them both

Posted by Sherry – July 28, 2008 10:08 PM

Difficult this season to choose a clear winner.I loved Jen's kitchen and Matt's dining room in Episode 8. Being that Jen and Matt get along so well together, could they possibly host a show together merging their innovative talent in one show.

Posted by Malinda – July 28, 2008 9:53 PM

Did I imagine this, or did the lady of the house not tell Matt that she loved BLUE? There was absolutely no blue in their space. And another thought...why didn't the two contestants draw their family from a paint can? Did the producers PICK the family for Matt because he is a minimalist? That doesn't seem quite fair. I think Matt is a very gracious man who wears really wierd rags on his head (not my favorite - I'd rather see his head), but I just can't get over that room he did for his parents with NO ACCESSORIES!!! JENNIFER GETS MY VOTE!

Posted by Lisa – July 28, 2008 9:39 PM

I too wish we could have 2 winners. Each finalist has a great sense of style and personality. I love Matt for his sincerity and dedication and I love Jen for her sense of color and style. I LOVED the mellow striped walls and I adore the red kitchen cabinets. Matt's style fully reflected what the customer asked for and he is truly a fantastic person. I wish they could have a program as a team because they would be fantastic together and they both deserve to win. I hope whoever comes in 2nd will be able to establish a business that will be financially rewarding. They BOTH deserve to win!

I just voted and it worked for me!

Here are the directions: Choose the black button beneath your favorite contestant to highlight it and then click Vote. (The Black Button is on their chest). You should then be brought to another page that says Thank you for voting!

Hope this helps some of you!

The two best designers are gone - Mikey V and Trish. They did the best throughout the competition with listening to their clients or challenges and actually "designing" a space to fit them. Overall they did the best jobs - HANDS DOWN much better than the two that are left. I only voted for Jen because she's from where I live.

Posted by radar – July 28, 2008 9:00 PM

I would love to see both Jenn and Matt on a show together! They complement each other well with Matt being a great carpenter and Jenn a great artist! I, too, think that Design Tmes Two is an awesome name for a design show. HGTV, think about it!!

MATT

Posted by Matt – July 28, 2008 8:45 PM

I have to say I thought Trish was the best host and designer of the last three so choosing either Jen or Matt was difficult. I thought Matt did a very nice job with his rooms and they flowed nicely from room to room whereas Jen's didn't seem to flow as well, but I think Jen does a better job hosting. Her energy is infectious. All that said I still think Trish was the best designer and host combination.

Posted by Henry – July 28, 2008 8:35 PM

A tip For Matt....Red paint will cover in one or two coats if you tint your primer gray, kind of like a car primer. Ihope you loved doing the show as much as I loved watching you.

Posted by Cathy – July 28, 2008 8:34 PM

JENNIFER IS GREAT. I LOVE HER RED CUPBOARDS. SHE IS ALWAYS CHEERFUL AND POSITIVE ABOUT EVERYTHING. MATT IS COOL BUT JENNIFER'S EYES TWINKLE AND HER FACE LITES UP. LOTS OF ENTHUSIASM. KUDOS TO MATT FOR ALL HE DID. GREAT JOB FOR BOTH DESIGNERS.

Posted by CINDY – July 28, 2008 8:27 PM

i agree with the comment about myles. i turn her show off and watch something else. i think both matt and jen are super. i vote for jen. the judges should have recognized that a good designer of space gets what the client wants, not what meets the judges ideas. i think that most of the work shown was geared to what someone would like in their space not what a judge who is in love with their own ideas would like. some of the other people were short changed by this from the judges.

Posted by Gramdma – July 28, 2008 8:03 PM

While I did like Jen's red cabinets, I wondered where the accent colors to give the clients the bold colors they preferred were? And yes, like many others have stated she really should have tried to find a table that could seat the whole family. Most of all, I don't think I could watch any show of hers because of her grating voice, ridiculous bleached hair, and tendency to cry under pressure. Matt is much easier to watch, his competency is stronger and he listens to the clients better than Jen. I'd like to see more of Trish--maybe she could be on a show with Matt--David Bromstad has helpers, so could Matt!

Posted by Julie fisk – July 28, 2008 7:40 PM

I have watched all three seasons and think the show is super.
Matt and Jennifer make a great team! I tried to vote for Matt with no luck. It would be wonderful to have them hosting together.

Posted by Paula Stoll – July 28, 2008 7:19 PM

I want both of them! They are both great in their own rights. Myles, you were a definite shoe-in last year. But this year, you have two winners. Can they co-star?

PLEASE.

I voted for Matt. Not only does he listen to his clients but he is humble and unselfish. He chose Trish instead of Mikey V to help him out so that Micky V could help Jan with the kitchen -an area she had not done before. What a gentleman!!!

Posted by Yvette Aviles – July 28, 2008 7:14 PM

I like Jen's kitchen better than Matt's, but I think that Matt had a better handle on his time management and what the family wanted/needed. Jen missed the size of the table and got way too sidetracked with the sectional. It could have been rotated 180 degrees and had the TV on the wall between the dining room and living room. I think Matt handled the stress better, too.

Posted by cindy – July 28, 2008 6:59 PM

I wanted Matt to win from the first episode. He has a great personality and great design talent.
I would definitely watch a show he was hosting.

Posted by Sue – July 28, 2008 6:54 PM

It's too bad they both can't have a show. I love them both and wish I didn't have to vote for just one. May the best designer win. I'll watch either one of them on HGTV. What does 2nd runner up get?

Kathryn

Posted by Kathryn – July 28, 2008 6:40 PM

Jennifer is by far the winner. She has the personality and design skills to pull off her own show. It's DESIGN STAR not Carpentry Star. I think Matt's choices leave a lot to be desired. He took the minimalist thing too far and had ZERO design!! He just painted and added furniture...boring. He is a good problem solver, not that great of a designer. I think he got lucky when it came down to him and Mikey V. a couple weeks ago and made it through. He's nice but just to sappy when he talks on camera.
As for the haters of the white sofa - it's leather that wipes clean, that's why I have one with a 2 year old!
Go Jen!

Posted by Barb – July 28, 2008 6:33 PM

I am glad to see so many others want them both to win. I liked Jen's room best because it is more my style. Mat listened to his family more than Jen.
And any mother will tell you a white couch is crazy when you have kids!!~!!!

Posted by Judie – July 28, 2008 6:18 PM

SO relieved to see so many fans wanting a third possibility: not either/or, but BOTH! Each contender has clever skills and ways of seeing that complement the other. They seem to have a genuine respect and even affection for each other, and I just can't help but smile when I see BOTH their lit-up faces. I think we viewers would learn much more about successful teamwork on design projects (no man is an island) if we could see how BOTH these artisans meld and realize their ideas and their varying points of view. Especially if the NextDesignStar's show intends to promote any sort of DIY, as some of the "hosting" promos have done, I would be WAY more interested to tune into any discussion between Jen and Matt about problem-solving.
Oh my, I guess I need to remember this is just a cable TV show.

Posted by LE – July 28, 2008 5:50 PM

I have to agree with the majority. They both deserve to host a design show. This is the first season where two people are so great with their designs. HGTV should try something new and let them both do a show. I also agree with the other bloggers that Matt showed so much of his gracious personality when he let Jenn have Mikey V for the first day. Usually everyone is out for themselves. Not Matt!!! Shows you what kind of person he is. Also, white with kids? Not a good choice Jenn, but with the time constraints I'm sure it was difficult. I can't vote for just one, so my vote will be divided.

Posted by Sandy – July 28, 2008 5:21 PM

People! the voting!!!! There is a round black button just above their names. It may be difficult to see depending on your monitor. Click on the black button first, then click the "Vote" button.

I voted for Matt. He can do anything... most of what we don't know to do around the house is finding solutions... and Matt has done that over and over again. I can totally relate and learn from him.

Jennifer is good, but she is a decorator, not a designer. She can decorate and make things look pretty with accessorizing the place, and that's all she can do. From episide after episodes, she has clearly shown that...unless you want another Kim Myles...otherwise, vote for Matt. I think he can do great things.

I voted for Matt.

Posted by Bot – July 28, 2008 4:58 PM

Matt and Jennifer are both great. I give the edge to Matt because he can do it all. I wish Jennifer,Trish,Mikey V and Matt could all get their own shows. Or, whoever wins gets to have the other three working with them on their show. I think these four designers are a dream team of designers. They should all be on the network somewhere somehow.....

Posted by bigfanofshow – July 28, 2008 4:53 PM

HGTV needs to look at it's marketable demographics.

I vote Solutions over paint job.
I'd actually watch Matt.

Jen is good but it's old news.

Matt has the ability to bring in the male 25-40 heterosexual population.

It was MUCH easier last year to choose the Design Star! Loved Matt and Jennifer since the beginning. Please count me in on agreeing that HGTV should have one show with BOTH Jen & Matt! Great personalities and great talent. Enjoy the way Matt can think outside the box. But as a craft person, where is the space for his mom to do all of her work? It was too pretty. Crafts get MESSY and need a lot of space. It was a great lounge/game room, but craft room - no. Love all of Jen's murals and creativity, but I know she doesn't have kids - I never buy anything white (furniture or carpeting), it will have to cleaned on a daily basis! But thanks for a fun year, but next year - skip the drama and catfights. Pick more designers like Jen, Matt, Trish and Mikey; hard workers and great people.

Several people have commented that the round glass table Jennifer put in front of the fireplace was too small for a "dining table," but that is not the dining table.

There is an actual separate Dining Room, and the table Jennifer chose for the Dining Room seats 8 to 10 people. The round glass table is in the Living Room and her thought was that it
