I am about to open a hair salon and I was thinking maybe my salon could be the first to appear on your show, or maybe such a segment could be implemented on your show. I am located in Queens New York I dont know if that would be a problem. Hit me back soon. oh by the way totaly love your show smooches

I do not believe this

To me Daivd was the very best there could be, I love his show and watch it all the time, it would be terrible if his show were not on anymore, I do notice that hgtv does that at times takes good shows off and put terrible shows on.
Divine Design is without a doubt the top of the line, there is noone and I mean noone can hold a candle to Candice, she is the best there is.
Sparkle Josh should have his own show showing us how to shop I love his sparkle and we all can use some sparkle in our home.

Sparkle is FAB. Give that guy a show. Love his humor. We need more fun and less boring tan tile in the kitchen and bath! B..O..R..I..N..G!

To answer oonie earlier...

I guess you don't really think that Jennifer Hudson had any valuable experience before American Idol or any couldn't add any value to anything related to music or entertainment since she didn't win American Idol...although there was that little thing of her winning an OSCAR for Dreamgirls and coming out with her acclaimed album this year...or Chris Daughtry who didn't win American Idol either but sold over 4 MILLION albums in 2007 to be named the MOST POPULAR album of the year by Billboard magazine...

...and never mind the fact that Sparkle Josh actually IS an interior designer with over 14 years experience in the business, while Kim was a haircutter and ice-cream dipper before Design Star...

Just because someone wins a reality show doesn't mean they're the expert in that field, and just because someone doesn't win a reality show doesn't mean they're not qualified to speak to concepts or topics in that industry. Maybe a little research would help you before inserting foot in mouth. Just a thought! Happy chewing!

LOVE SPARKLE JOSH, I WISH HGTV WOULD GIVE HIM HIS OWN SHOW.

Posted by CRYSTAL – July 23, 2008 10:09 PM

THIS YEAR'S DESIGN STAR MAKES ME SICK. THESE CONTESTANTS NEED TO TAKE A PAGE OUT OF DAVID'S BOOK FROM SEASON ONE. HE ALWAYS TAKE CHANCES, THINKS OUTSIDE THE BOX, HUMBLE AND PLEASANT,WORKS WELL WITH EVERYONE,ETC. WE ARE NOT SEEING THE REAL PICTURE HERE, HELLOOOO. WE NEED DESIGNERS, NOT REALITY SHOWS. THAT'S WHY I TUNE IN TO HGTV DIY 90% OF THE TIME. AS FOR MYLES OF STYLE, I WOULD DO BETTER SLEEPING.

Posted by Karlene Clarke – July 22, 2008 5:59 PM

Am I missing something? David won season one. Kim won season 2. WHY is it important what Josh thinks is great design? He was voted off the show! I'm sure this won't pass inspection and show up for readers but it's the truth. Why not have Trish judge the rest? She lost and was sent home too!

Sparkle! Sparkle! Sparkle! So glad to see Sparkle Josh again. Thanks for bring him to the site. I am loving these vlogs of his.

I enjoyed watching Sparkle Josh's commentary on the latest episode of Design Star. He exudes such a trustworthy and comfortable presence, I'd want him to be in my circle of friends!
I'd enjoy seeing more of him on your website.

Sparkle would be a great host and the average homeowner could learn so much from him. His rooms would be fun, stylish and livable. What a great designer!

Posted by Delvia Logan – July 14, 2008 3:28 PM

Uh...what just happened? I feel like I got cheated out of a show this week! I love this show but again..what just happened? Sparkle Josh's two and half minute vlog was far more entertaining to watch than this week's losing viewer's by the minute episode. Sad to see Mikey V go though...

Posted by Crys – July 14, 2008 12:24 AM

It would be wonderful if HGTV host a show with Sparkle Josuh and Will Smith. They were the best two designer of last year desgin star.

I totaly agree. Myles of Styles is not a interesting design show. I watch the new show this past week with an open mind and could not really digest Kim's desgin. Her show have been poorly done to me. As I stated the past year, we need designs not make over(new paint colors, accessories, and craft projects.)

By far David shows are great with designs and make over.

This year, I think Jennifer is the best designer and host. She is a nature with a great smiles. Trish seems like a double of Alice from the fist design show, know what the judges like already.

Posted by Spirited – July 13, 2008 11:10 PM

This season's Design Star show has been a disappointment. With the possible exception of the work in the hotel suites at Opryland, the designs seen on most of the shows could have been pulled together (or surpassed!) by just about any reasonably tasteful homeowner. There has been more emphasis on hokey, engineered interpersonal drama than on real creativity and design ability. Please re-think the concept of the show for next year -- and more importantly, find a better way to evaluate real design skills in your candidate selection process so viewers will see and enjoy truly standout design work.

ODE TO JOSH:

In every plan, in every design,
You need someone who can refine,
Your den, your bedroom,
Or where you dine.

Who would that be?
Who can we find?
I know someone,
I have in mind.

There is only one,
Who can get it done.
He’ll make you smile.
He’ll make it fun.

Dear Sparkle is the only choice.
He always makes my heart rejoice.
HGTV-
Please hear my voice!!

HGTV GIVE SPARKLE JOSH HIS OWN SHOW!!!!!!!

Posted by carol – July 13, 2008 9:57 AM

I love Design Star-althought I agree this year's contestants are not the best. I do like Trish. Hidden Potential is a waste of time. Candace Olsen has a great show. I wish she would film some of her design shows in the USA; and, what is up with all the tatoos on Chico and the rest of the guys???

Posted by Yvonne – July 13, 2008 9:08 AM

As I recall seasons 1 & 2, the finalists were pleasant people. America won't vote for nasty people regardless of their talent. A problem with season 3 is that the contestants are not so spontaneous in the challenges, like Matt waiting for the white room challenge, wanting an out of the box Todd room. Matt's idea didn't work, but it was more Thai than Mikey V's Japanese noodle shop design. Obviously these two didn't know what Thai design is...or the Thai alphabet. But I think Thai design is much less known than Italian or Mexican, making the competition somewhat unfair.

On last week's challenge, I'm not a designer, but I know a leather couch is not shabby chic. That room would have lost even with the white couch.

Like others I love David, and his show. Besides his personality, it's the artist in him that makes him so special.

Kim is so totally different than David, like apples and oranges, and so are their shows and designs. Variety is a good thing. I expect the third design star will be different than David or Kim. Viva la difference! Right Sparkle Josh?

Posted by Diane – July 13, 2008 1:41 AM

I'm sorry but I don't get Kim's design which makes me change the channel. But I do love her attitude, she's a great person but I don't think she's a great designer. I would love to see Sparkle Josh on TV, it would be so much fun watching him. I too would watch him everyday. I felt so bad when he left last season that I didn't cared who was going to make it. Of the 5 left this season, I am voting for Matt. Please hang in there. I have doubts about the attitudes of the others.

Posted by celle – July 12, 2008 7:22 PM

I SO agree with many of you posters. Kim's show really should be cancelled. I saw 2 episodes and it was boring!
Does any one know where David bromstad is? I haven't seen any new show from him and am worried that HE may have been cancelled.
these design star contestants are sort of pathetic with the whineing and crying. boring lot
not sure if I'll keep watching

We would love to see more of Sparkle Josh and his great shopping techniques. We enjoyed him so much and would LOVE to see him get his own show about shopping! Love you, Josh. We also love Kim Myles - she decorates for those who don't have huge resources and that is very much appreciated. We love her too! Good luck to this year's contestants.

No doubt, Josh needs to return to HGTV in a big way. As for this season: Trish should prove to be the winner. She has the talent and grace to pull it off. I doubt any of the others can.

Posted by Connie – July 12, 2008 11:04 AM

Sparkle Josh is the diamond of HGTV! How refreshing to hear comments from someone with integrity, knowledge, and experience! I always agree with his comments, and his "Sparkle-isms" always make me laugh. This season has way too much drama and doesn't match the depth of implied friendship Season 2 had. Thank you, Sparkle, for bringing back some interest to these blogs, videos, and message boards.

BRING BACK THE SPARKLE! BRING BACK THE SPARKLE!
Diamonds ALWAYS Sparkle.....and you are the GEM everyone wants! ;-) Thanks for all you bring to HGTV! Your fans love you!

Posted by Tayken – July 12, 2008 10:04 AM

I was watching an "old" episode of Cash in the Attic on July 9th; the auction was held at the North River Auction Gallery and seated in the audience was Sparkle Josh!!!!

Posted by Jean – July 11, 2008 9:02 PM

So excited to that we have "Sparkle" back in our lives. I haven't watched much of HGTV since last season's Design Star. I felt the HGTV executives just didn't get it.

However, Since I see they are attempting to rectify some of their horrible mistakes, I have been watching a little more. Now, they need to get Will into the picture. I miss his honesty and caring nature. He should have been the host of deserving design. Even though I do like Vern, he just does not seem to have the same sincere caring that Will has. Vern would do better in a different kind of design show.

Posted by happy – July 11, 2008 7:18 PM

I personally think Will from Design Star season 2 should have won. He was far more talented that Myles. They could of worked on his stage presence.
Sparkle Josh was good as well. Myles of Style is lacking in STYLE and is quite boring. Devine Design is absolutely the best design show on HGTV. It is real design. Most of these shows are about finding junk and refurbishing it to put in a design plan. That is not how real design works people! Let's get with the program and find some true designers out there who can bring us some quality tv viewing.

Posted by Roxanne – July 11, 2008 6:06 PM

Love you Sparkle, wish you had a show to add sparkle to everyone's life. I miss your energy.

I love Design Star and look forward to it every week. I agree this group is not as good as before but the end is still to come. I am hopeful that someone will emerge. I think if you gave a little more time to complete the rooms we may see better results. While I think the hosting is important, it will come, concentrate on the designs. I love Jennifer, Trish and Mikey V. I hope next year that you not have so many professional" decorators, but just people who love to do this. Make them submit photos of their homes that they have decorated. I really loved Jennifer, loved her passion, can't believe she was "cancelled". I am still not sure why - because she forgot to measure an elevator to bring the sofa in?? Bad call Judges on that one. On a good note,I love David and watch his show often, Kim not so much. I have Watched HGTV forever and love most of the shows.

Posted by Carolyn – July 11, 2008 5:52 PM

I agree with most of the comments I have read. I think David is the best all around new talent you have. I voted for him and he hasn't disappointed me yet.
I like Sparkle and think a "show me how to shop show" would be great with him on it.
Kim's show is disappointing, not her but the designs.
Maybe it is time for Design Star to say "bye-bye".

Posted by Nelda Vanderburg – July 11, 2008 4:02 PM

Does anyone know how David Brosted's Dad is? He had cancer diagnosed just when David won. David should invite Alcie to be on one of his shows. He won, but she was good too and had a good following and great personality. She is better thatn anything going this 3rd season. It has not been done before and would be a great thing to do. Be big enough to invite your best competitior to visit and do a show with you.

Posted by marybarger – July 11, 2008 3:19 PM

Vern, you lost me with the first episode of season three. To allow those two ditzy blondes to get away with painting that beautiful wood table white was unthinkable. It was not a style error. It was a design SIN. You let it slide. You kept those two on the show. I have watched everything that you have done, but this boggles my mind and what disappointment. Talent is not everything, One should NEVER be rewarded for Poor Behavior. Only TV and movie celebs seem to think it is OK to act bad and we will reward you for it. Wakeup, make the world a better place. You are helping people that live in fine homes and they deserved recognition, I am sure of that, but help those that are really struggling. But, do not over do it. I do not watch The Home Show redo for families that need new homes. They could do homes for four or five families for what they put into one home. Like they need an intercom. It upsets me so that I will not watch it. If the show is just for show and not doing what it was meant to do, It is worthless just like your choices this season on Design Star. Season 2..Kim Myles was a great choice. I would like to see them invite the runnerup to do a show with them. That would be a great gift to the watchers that were on the fence. Never ever let anyone get away with painting a table like that again. Those women should have been placed on the floor and that table placed on top of them for well into the next century. It was a Giant SIN. I do not even want to see their faces.

Love you, Sparkle Josh! I wanted you to win last season's Design Star. Your show would have been so much fun to watch!

Posted by Diane – July 11, 2008 3:21 AM

HGTV are you reading all the comments? BRING SPARKLE JOSH BACK! He has such a HUGE fan base his show would be a HIT! I would LOVE to go shopping with him!

Posted by Mary – July 10, 2008 10:31 PM

This is, sadly, the least of the Design Star shows. Perhaps if you removed the criteria as to how dramatic these people would be, how likely to cry or fight with one another, and if you gave us more real design, including having them explain to the audience on more than a fake TV speech, what they are doing and why and how it fits into their idea of design, you could improve the show greatly. The present cast of competitors would then mostly be ruled out! And that would be good!

As for real "design", Vern is the best, not only because his work is so great, but because he is such a down to earth and true human being with great humanity. Candice Olsen, while a marvelous designer, is also someone who makes it fun. Her humor is so dumb and silly it is great.

The one person I wish you would bring back is Kenneth Brown. I changed my whole schedule not to miss his show or a rerun. And David too does wonderful work!

As for shows you could do without, please start with Hidden Potential. Look, I am redoing my house myself, inside and out. I know what things cost, and that show does not come close, indeed it is way over what things should cost. And please ask the producers to get rid of the sick green color they constantly use in the "improved" version of many of the rooms.

On the weekends my TV is tuned almost constantly to HGTV. You are the best of the best on TV, but you could do without a few programs, and bring back some others, and give us more of Vern!

Posted by MM Goodwin – July 10, 2008 7:48 PM

THANK YOU for bringing Sparkle Josh back to the viewers!!! Loved Kim but Sparkle was the man!!!

Love the Design Star show however not as exciting of a crew this year I have to say.

Posted by Kim – July 10, 2008 5:07 PM

It is really fun seeing Sparkle Josh again! I agree with others that he should have his own show on HGTV! Of all the designers on HGTV, I definitely think Vern Yip is THE best! His designs are down-to-earth and practical for real people i.e. those of us who watch HGTV and really live in our homes. I'm still not seeing the level of talent this season that I saw in Seasons 1 and 2 of Design Star.

Posted by Carol – July 10, 2008 4:25 PM

Sparkle Josh is HOT!!! Should have had his own show. Myles of Style is BORING! This season of DESIGN STAR is a joke. So what SCOTT liked ORANGE lots of people do. MICHAEL was FUN and interesting. TRACEE needs an attitude adjustment and to be sent home. MATT and MICKEY are carpenters. JENNIFER and TRISH have some painting/design skills. Poor STEPHANIE too young TOO many tears. So far I don't think any of them have what it takes.VERY!!!disappointed in this season. Clive, Where did you go wrong?
Find us another LISA OR CANDICE. PLEASE!!

Posted by SALLY – July 10, 2008 1:38 PM

David Bromstad is the very best of Design Star! This season's group should all be cancelled. Rethink the challenges for one contestant...if they are picked for a show they will be solo. HGTV producers are trying to be too much like "Reality shows" Please don't air all of the dirt, the tears and jeers...The fans want design forget the drama!! Kim's show should be cancelled, she is cute but her show if forgettable!

Posted by Buddy – July 10, 2008 12:38 PM

I agree we need some new shows on HGTV. Leave my 'House Hunters' and 'Designed to Sell' alone they are my favorites.

You can dump 'Hidden Potential' these designers are giving a false hope to the consumer. Everything cost twice as much and takes twice as long (AT LEAST) not accounting for hidden problems.

I want to see Sparkle also. He is fun and orginal. HGTV, please give him his own show.

'House of Sparkle' would be a great show.

Posted by Donna – July 10, 2008 8:41 AM

I'm disappointed with this 3rd season. No one really stands out with either design or personality. The winning shabby chic hotel room is the best so far. I took notice. The other rooms and challenges looked like something that I, a non professional, could pull together. I like Kim Myles, but her designs on tv are stronger than anything she did on the design star challenges. They are complicated, though. I agree with another blogger, she must get help or took some classes between Design Star and actually going on air with Myles of Style. I certainly hope that one of the contestants really steps up to the plate and wow us in the next few episodes. Everyone is playing it too safe and not showing their "point of view" and convinging America they should win their own design show.

Posted by Mom V – July 10, 2008 8:29 AM

THIS SEASON IS THE MOST DISAPPOINTING EVER!! WHERE'S THE TALENT??? MY CHILDREN COULD DO A BETTER JOB- WHAT'S WITH ALL THE BACKSTABBING AND CRAZY PERSONALITIES??? THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A DESIGN CONTEST NOT A CONTEST FOR THE LOONEY BIN??
HGTV PLEASE CANCEL ALL OF THE CONTESTANTS AND START OVER-WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND THIS SHOW HAS BECOME AN INSULT TO THE INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR VIEWERS- DESIGN STAR PROBABLY WOULD GET BETTER RATINGS AS A SOAP OPERA="AS THE DESIGN WORLD TURNS INSIDE OUT""

Posted by Toni – July 10, 2008 8:23 AM

How did sparkle josh ever get voted off design star!!!!! it's crazy. He should be brought back this season ... like so a double elimination and say btw we are bring you some new competition ...Sparkle Josh!!! everyone would watch his show. David is great too!

Posted by Kathy – July 10, 2008 1:46 AM

Sparkle, we love you!
Need a show on HGTV. Also, hate Myles of Style. David is the best. Still love design star. Love your blog sparkle!

Posted by Carol – July 9, 2008 11:29 PM

Hello there! Sparkle Josh should be a JUDGE on next years show! Hey! Vern! you have lost your hungry, proving attitude. Try to get it back!! When you were on Trading Spaces your personality and style made the show worthwhile to watch. What is the saying Corruption corrupts absolutely. Fans are your accuser, your judge, and your jury. The Gaylord hotel was a great venue for the competitors to shine. Instead, the rooms were predictable and almost dull. Try, try harder! Watched another episode of Myles of Style, ho hum, is there a decorator in the house? Kim keeps deferring to her carpenter for ideas, and answers, maybe the name of the show should change to his name!! Divine Design & Design on a Dime continue to be Great! David of Color Splash still flutters my heart! Along with his scrumptious room designs he will be there a long time. Color and design are hard! I am trying to redo my small living room! The decisions are very important to me. If i had 1/2 of the designers of this year's Design Star I would be scared! Sparkle Josh, keep on being real, a rebel, and well groomed! Love, Sheryl

Posted by Sheryl – July 9, 2008 11:21 PM

After Sparkel Josh's show was "cancelled", I said they should offer him a show called Shopping with Sparkel, It would be a new format of showing the home designer the inspiration of buying from 99 Cent Stores to high end outlets to create a look. I was not nor am I impressed with Kim/Miles of Style. For Clive and Judges to say this year they have raised the bar, they do not give credit to their audience. If anything the bar may have been raised but no one has yet met Season one's bar. Matt still is my favorite, although I lost a lot of faith in his Buddhist Temple, totally the single least appealing design, and I believe if it were his first outing his show would have been "cancelled". My favorite designers are still Candice Olsen, Divine Design, and Steven Sabados/Chris Hindman, Design Rivals-Designer Guys. Design Star potentials should try to achieve this level to be a real "star". Of all the current and past only David Bromstad comes close.

Posted by Jon – July 9, 2008 9:14 PM

I feel that David and Alice both brought class to Season One, and Sparkle to last season - they did not act ugly, were attractive but humble, and hard workers and positive. Kim's show disappoints me a little, but her "style" is for a 20-30 something age range, not sophisticated, but showy and colorful. She has turned a couple of real dumps into something much nicer and prettier to live in. As for this year, I think the class comes from Mikey V, Jennifer, Trish, and Matt. No one else comes close. Tracee had a nice portfolio, but I would hate to see her be caught in a dilemma like Candice, David or Debbie Travis and still appear reasonable like they are. I think the camera would have a lot of off-time. I also agree that the idea of only inviting professional designers is a mistake. And you need to get a fresh crew of judges. These three, while very involved in the world of design and fine living, are getting a little stale. Why not invite some of the designers who have done work on Designers' Challenge to become judges? Now THERE is some powerfully great work!

Posted by Connie – July 9, 2008 5:56 PM

JOSH - I love thee, let me count the ways
Josh needs some kind of involvement in HGTV - I don't know what but SOMETHING because I totally love his honesty and personality. This year's Design Star has been somewhat dissappointing overall and I'm not sure why. I don't find myself racing for the next episode like I did last year. I think everyone is being safe and that is understandable. We need SPUNK!!!

Posted by Becky – July 9, 2008 2:36 PM

HGTV line up needs a makeover! House Hunters and Design on a Dime are boring. Bring the fun and sparkle to the network with Sparkle Josh.
I would love to see someone truly design-with personality!

Does HGTV actually care for the opinions of the viewers?

Posted by Marsha – July 9, 2008 1:42 PM

I disagree about the couch thing. They found a couch, but it was slightly too big to fit thru the doorway. They looked a little more foolish that they didn't have a couch, rather than saying that they had a couch--but it didn't fit thru the door.
I agree that some of the competitions are silly and don't really reflect what a real designer might do, but they do reveal how creative they can be in limited situations.
I don't think any of this season's people are really great...but I will keep watching. (Don't they practice at home, knowing they will be on-camera at some time?)

Posted by yelocab – July 9, 2008 11:34 AM

The best designers on HGTV are Vern Yip and Candace Olsen. I adore Design Star but do agree that it would be beneficial to see only individual challenges so we can better assess their abilities.

Posted by Val – July 9, 2008 11:34 AM

Myles of Style just leaves me going, "So what?" I rarely watch it and when I do, I just stumble on it. I'd never willingly miss a Sparkle show! I don't think he's just a showman; I liked his designs. Even the ones that wouldn't work in my home were still beautiful. This season isn't nearly as good. None of them is a "Design Star" and some of them apparently aren't even designers, judging by their work. I kind of like Tracee (although she's bossy) but she's only so-so as a designer. I might watch her and almost certainly Jennifer on a show, but definitely no one else.

Posted by Mandy HC – July 9, 2008 11:08 AM

I so agree with most of the comments about Myles of style. It is boring and her designs reminds of Hildi of Trading Places...scary. Her choice of clothing needs to be reconsidered also. It is not appealing. I'm tired of viewing her belly botton through her thin dresses. Does the show provide a personal tailor or are they allowed to where what the want. I also think Tracee was kept of the show for ratings. Stephanie and Mikey V all though not great, were and was the best out there. When you can turn a funky flamingo to works of art, thats hot.

Posted by janet polk – July 9, 2008 10:49 AM

I also agree with everybody else there is something to sparkle josh, but lets not forget about the other josh from last season either these two joshes should have a show together, they worked great together and a show named josh and josh would be a number one hit. I am not impressed at all this season with any of the designers, no one really stands out. I am disappointed in this season than any other season past. I'll keep watching beause I am noisy and I will vote in the end. I have an idea, for season 4 the viewers should play a vey important part in picking the design team abd then maybe we will finally have a hit shoe that most will be pleased in. they should try out on line with various designs and from there we would choose the shows desigers.

Posted by msdeb – July 9, 2008 1:25 AM

Wow. Great to see Sparkle Josh again. He had such a great presence. We sure could use someone like him this season.

Posted by cindyn123 – July 8, 2008 11:05 PM

Nothing I've seen in season 2 or thus far in sean 3 can top David! His designs are fabulous and his hosting abilities rock! A+ show top to bottom!! As for Myles of Stye, must admit it's luck warm at best. Liked Kim's designs much better on Design Star than the rooms she has been designing on her show. I'm hoping we see a great and talented individual win this year to get Design Star back on track. My vote thus far is either for Mickey V. He's talented and I think his personality can carry a show. Time will tell. And Sparkle Josh, love your blog and wishing you get your own show soon!

Posted by Lisa M – July 8, 2008 10:07 PM

I like how Design Star is far less pretentious than the BRAVO TV version of it. Design Star's judges are just plain friendly and humble. They seem to honestly want the designers to improve. Surfer guy from last season had so much talent and should get another chance. So should Sparkle Josh.Sparkle Josh is the realer, handsomer version of Carson from Queer Eye.Again, HGTV trumps BRAVO in the lovable gay male category.

Posted by eichlerhouse – July 8, 2008 9:50 PM

What about Matt? Everybody keeps raving about Trish and Mikey V, but Matt was very good on camera despite faggot Vern's patronizing comments and Matt has awesome ideas and actually pulls them off. He acts friendly and is a professional. He deserves MUCH more credit!

Posted by Nancy – July 8, 2008 7:37 PM

I'd love to see Sparkle Josh on his own show. He has such a wonderful, warm presence and I'd love to see his designs.

I think, too, that Surfer Guy from last season should be invited back. He had imagination and saw things in a new way, with design success.

I'm sorry to say I don't like Myles designs although she is a sweet person. I would be so disappointed if she did my rooms.

I love Sparkle Josh. He is so cool and was my favorite contestant in Season 2.

I totally agree that the primary focus of the judges should be on DESIGN. Just the fact that these people are already in front of a camera on a TV show is proof enough to me that they can be groomed to be good hosts. I watch a design show to learn from someone else's "professional expertise" and that requires some years of knowledge and experience. On the other hand, Sparkle Josh may not have won, but he is endearing and I enjoy his comments and I hope HGTV can find a spot for him. Does anyone know if the judges read these comments? They should.

Posted by Dee – July 8, 2008 4:46 PM

Myles of Style is good so stop bashing it. Sparkle is entertaining. Matt is going to win. Vern needs to work on his hosting skills and Tracee got a bum wrap from the very beginning.

Posted by Ava'sGrammy – July 8, 2008 3:06 PM

I agree. Myles of Style is just aswful. The show should be cancelled. No one measures up to David.

Posted by Shirley – July 8, 2008 12:52 PM

This week was better than the others. But nothing like first season. David is the best. In this season I think that the only person that have opportunity is Mickey V. He have ability, good sense and personality

Posted by Edna – July 8, 2008 11:52 AM

I think Trish and Mikey V. would make a show... she's got the design & he's got the build. Like others, LOVE Sparkle Josh - he needs a show! ENOUGH with House Hunters! It's on OVER & OVER & OVER - Please, enough! Does SW own HGTV or something? It doesn't leave the viewer with any benefit - no design, no advice, no tips. Love Design Star... best reality program on tv.

I must admit I like Sparkle. He's a trip! Okay, I know he was on the show and booted off...but man...he needs to host or co-host. This year's show...not as good as David's season. Hopefully, this year, the winner will bring good design and hosting skills without putting you to sleep!

I so think Sparkle Josh should have his own Tv show! It would do wonderful. He has great talent as a designer and a wonderful personality and wonderful stage presence!!!! He would get a great following. He saw him in the audience on a show called Cash in the Attic! He is very recognizable and David of Color Splash fame is absolute doing great too!!! Bring back Sparlke Josh! I would watch him.

I like the living room of Trish's team alot, and the extra touches (the coffee and biscotti on the bar) made a big difference. I loved the architectural headboard made out of the dismantled Armoire in Jenn's suite though. Overall Trish's team captured the design wishes of the client. I hope to see more individual challenges as I do not have a favorite right now. I agree that David B has set the bar way high!
I can watch Myles of Style if I keep the sound off. She sounds patronizing to me and I dont think she means to... she seems like a nice person, I just dont care for her designs, not my style. She deserves her run though because she won fair and square - she was voted as the next design star. Anyway I am glad the pettiness is going away in this season. Thanks!

Hi Sparkle Josh,
I am SOOOOOooo glad to see you again. I loved you on the last season and HGTV should give you a show. You are so funny and Bedazzling and talented.

Posted by Cathy Wolfe – July 8, 2008 4:44 AM

Where did they find this bunch of people this year? The first season had great people and it was really hard to pick a winner. I did vote for David but it was really hard to pick between him and Alice.

Last season wasn't as close. I did vote for Kim too but it really got down to the end before I could decide. (By the way, like Myles of Style)

This season I don't really think I would watch a show that any of them hosted. There just anything special about any of them.

I'll keep watching the show, but my vote is for Sparkle Josh.

These proects are ludicrous and do nothing to show a designer's talent. Who would hire these people - someone moving into a college dorm? I don't want a home designed in a day - I don't want a home designed in a craft store...

Generally this competition, as with the shows on HGTV, may have a kernel of good idea in them, but use cheap, crappy, tacky or cutesy ideas that you'd never pay a professional for.

This show has nothing to do with design, it's just cutesy TV

I had to watch Ep 5 2x, and still, I think Stephanie should be in the running. They want her to articulate for herself, then be clear and use her name when asking a question. I can see why she looked to the other end of her row, the team captain was over there saying nothing. Like when Jennifer was captain on the first room Steph did w her, the painter's tape was left and Steph took the fall then too. Stephanie can design. And the first curved sofa she chose would have been lovely, 100% improved over the brown leather... what was that decision worth anyway team captain? All-in-all, wishing the show started with more talented designers to begin with, that would be real drama. Hoping when they eliminate two, they bring Stephanie back.

I am not sure the challenges are set up for the best results. The winner last year just does not make it. You need either new challenges or new judges. For examples Myles of Style - boring. Now Sparkle Josh he makes it fun to watch. Vern's show - boring. Knowing how to design doesn't mean you can carry a show!!

Posted by marilyn yingling – July 8, 2008 12:31 AM

Sparkled Josh is great - such a fun personality and a good designer! I agree that it would be great to see him on HGTV . Everybody can use a little sparkle and wow!

Posted by Kris – July 7, 2008 11:16 PM

Looking back at the individual challenge from seasons 1-3..I think season 2 was the best for me. In season 1, hands down, David stood out. In season 3, no one stood out. In season 2, they showed absolute creativity!! They were so talented at putting together a spectacular room with materials coming from 99cents shop. For those who didn't get to see that, I highly encourage you to watch it now.

Posted by LIA – July 7, 2008 10:09 PM

Where is my "Sparkle"?? Watching this group of designers only reminds me of how much Sparkle added to last season. I would much rather watch a Sparkle show than this season of Design Star.
I agree with others, Kim is boring, David is great, Sparkle would outshine them all with his talent and and ability to entertain. He always makes me smile!!

Posted by Crystal – July 7, 2008 9:04 PM

I love KIM!!! I think that HGTV should incorporate more DIY home decor to the line up. I love knowing some tips to copy design style on a budget. I hate Tracee! I HATE HER, she should have been gone before Scott. They didn't give him a chance. FYI..I love the Shabby Chic look of both rooms. Stephiann was my favorite. I love her. I have to see who will edge out.

I am curious as to who decided at which stores the teams would shop on this last design. Trisha's team seemed to luck out on where they found several of the antique pieces. Jennifer's team didn't seem to hit that type of store, at least not in what we saw. I can't imagine that they would have time to search via internet before heading out. Do the drivers give advice, or is it hit and miss with the internet and phone book? Where they shop would have a big impact on what they can find and the time constraints.

This year's designers are not on par with last season's class. They really do not work well together, and their team projects show it.
Kim Myles' show is fine. She has creative ideas and knows how to implement them. I also enjoy David's show. Kim and David are different people with different styles. Both shows are winners!

I love hearing from Sparkle Josh. Would like to see more of him on HGTV.

Posted by Nikki Morgan – July 7, 2008 5:31 PM

I am so glad I stuck with this show! I loved the rooms Trish's team did. I agree they should have done that one wall in light butter yellow, too bad they didn't. I was so sorry to see Stephanie's couch not fit. It looked like she measured everything except the elevator. Darn!
I think the bedding with Jennifer's team was better than the Chenille in Trish's team's room.
Trish finally stood out, with her video. Can't wait for next Sunday!!!

Posted by Linda Wilson – July 7, 2008 4:10 PM

"always picked last in dodgeball, always picked first in cheerleading!" haha!

it was funny how the rooms were so similiar, yet the end product was so different!!!

I totally agree with teann, Myles of nothing should be the name. She is a hair stylst??? and that is questionable. I can't stand watching the messes she makes. The judges and show want to keep the drama going and are forgetting the real reason they are on there. DESIGN. I love Mikey V to death, he brings some of the David back to this years compition. Asking Myles what she thinks - who cares, Sparkle on the other hand... Being the host - Vern I'm sorry you are not that good at hosting, your hand movements make me crazy and I love you to death, you have class but forget judging on the hosting pick the designer. you didn't do well on Myles last year.

Posted by Sue – July 7, 2008 3:11 PM

I agree with the judges this week. Stephanie is really great at thinking on her feet and in her choices. But she isn't very articulate when it comes to talking with THEM. Maybe it's just nerves, but they can't keep waiting around for her to stand out as a designer host.

Posted by Ladee Rozee – July 7, 2008 2:44 PM

Sparkle Josh needs a show. He could replace Vern Yipps snoozer Deserving Design.

Posted by sky – July 7, 2008 2:04 PM

Teann could not agree more...Myles of Style...your show should be cancelled. Anyway this year is quite disappointing. David was and continues to hold the bar high. I could not wait to see what he would come up w/every week. reminder Judges...David did not do well on camera but look @ him now. I am still waiting, hoping to see what these individuals can do.

Posted by Golf Girl – July 7, 2008 1:48 PM

Thank goodness this week was so much better than the rest. Tracee was not as anoying as usual thank goodness! I did like their room better. The other team's problem with sofa should not have been blamed on person. All in all I don't think any of this year's designers are of the same calaber as David! Up until last night I wouldn't have let any of them design a room in my little house. Their individual designs were horrible. I can't even pick one that I think deserves the title. If they are the best designers out there we are all in trouble.

Posted by Angela – July 7, 2008 1:35 PM

I was disappointed that Jennifer's team did not do as well as the other group on this challenge. Jennifer and Matt are both warm personalities and have good ideas. I like Mikey, too. Trish may be talented, but she is cold on camera in spite of her practiced smile. Tracee makes me sigh. It's always good to see you, Josh, and your beautiful smile! I look forward to next week and your vlog :)

Posted by Iris – July 7, 2008 1:16 PM

WE LOVE YOU SPARKLE!!!! Oh, how I wish YOU had a show. I could watch you every day. You are WONDERFUL!! Hugs and kisses!

Posted by Rachel – July 7, 2008 1:12 PM

Nothing can top the first season.
I'm tired of myles of styles.
She thinks she know everthing.
Kim must get a lot of help and to just move to
LA and know where everthing is, dah dump her
Like the apprentance you can't top the first season and keep trying. Where do they get these
people? A real pro would not apply to appear on
this show. not with the joke its become.

Posted by ap – July 7, 2008 12:59 PM

this week the two rooms were lovely i did'nt like the brown chair either but i hope the judges do not make the mistake that was made last year picking hosting over designing look at myles of style to me is myles of blam the contest can be coach how to speak on camera please pick some one who can truely design not some one with words and no action all like now i can not bring my self to watch myles of style and i really love here her work is shabby not chic.

Posted by teann – July 7, 2008 10:42 AM

I agree with the judges. There were really great things in both rooms. Sara Evans seems to like both rooms, but one did stand out.

Posted by Iris Burelli – July 7, 2008 1:13 AM

I miss the class that David brought to Design Star. It is, after all, a DESIGN show. This week was a little better, now that the whining has eased a bit. The second team did get the point of this challenge, and I was really impressed. Let's see if any of them can design real rooms, and show some style other than "soap opera". Mikey still proves to have the best personality. Trish spoke well on camera, but is not easy to warm up to.
