Sparkle hasn't been this excited since Knots Landing, so catch his recap of the final challenge and see who he thinks will be the next Design Star.

"Please DO stop the music"! I am so sorry, but even though I LOVE to watch House Hunters, the music is just awful. The constant sound of the percussions, coupled with the dreadful bird chirping sounds in the last episode i watched, completely stressed me out. And it's like that with every episode. I feel like I've stepped into a tech-no club hidden away in some warehouse in the Mission District of San Francisco.I've even had to mute the TV and turn on the Closed Captioning function just to get through it. Please consider Jazz or Lite Rock with the next episode. I'll continue watching inspite of it all! Love it!

I have watched design star since its first show. I have to say that I could not vote for just one of them. There was a partnership that should not have been missed between Jen and Matt.
Their ideas and style were similiar, their personalities were great, and I loved the fact they respected each other. I would love to see the two of them together. Room by Room's duo had a wonderful thing going. Why not put Jen and Matt? I believe their show would do well.

This season was all about "raising the bar". I really did NOT see that. Individual rooms competition, I think Jenn was #1 there. Matt did an excellent job with the first challenge of the bedroom. I voted for Matt, but Jenn won and that is great too. For me it was a toss up any way. Hope next season is better.

I agree that Matt and Jen should have a show together. I voted equally for both of them! I would like to see more different shows instead of so much House Hunters etc. I admire HGTV for trying to get the real estate going again, but I would like to see more quilting/sewing shows.Like Room by Room, Simply Quilts etc. Also I was very dissapointed with Design Star this season. I hope there are more "mature" contestants next time. not older but less childish. I love Kim, and David's shows. They are very talented and have great personalities. I think you could lose Cynthia and put someone with more personality in her place.

I agree with so many of the other folks who have written, HGTV should put Matt and Jennifer together in a show. They were both awesome, and like so many others, I could not vote ~ I loved them both!! Also Kim's designs are always beautiful but David is my man; I love his designs and personality; I know you must have loved that mega SPARKLE chandelier of Matt's Josh! HGTV ROCKS!!

Like so many above, I liked both Matt & Jen, but voted for Matt because he had such innovative ideas- the bed & the cabinet to hide his mom's firing oven. Jen seemed busy painting all the time - I like the wall art she dies, but get furniture in the color you want, not waste time painting it, unless you're being green & reusing an old piece. I still think viewers should get to choose prior to being down to the last 2 finalists. I also love David's show & will watch Jen's, but would have LOVED to see a show with Sparkle & Will - now that was THE team of all the DS seasons. Matt, you are the MOST gracious person. Good luck in your future, would have loved to see you on HGTV nest season.

What a pleasure to have two finalist who were equally deserving of the prize. Both Matt and Jenn are gracious, personable and genuine. They both demonstrated immense humility and superior talent. I would have been happy with either one as a winner. Sometimes it would be nice to see everyone win. In this case they both deserved it. Best of luck to both of you in the inevitably bright futures that I am certain you will both have.

All the shows leading up to the final show were very exciting. Just couldn't miss any of them!
Matt and Jen were truly the best of the contestents. It was so hard to choose one over the other but, I feel, the best one did win. As far as I am concerned, David Bromstad rocks! Kim Myles is a little too far out for me. I wish Vern Yip would use less candles in his designs. Good grief, a wall of candles is too much. He is going to burn down somebody's home one of these days.

That really sucked when HGTV edited out the scene when you gave Trish that necklace! I did get to see it on the HGTV page. I also enjoyed seeing you as a judge. HGTV give Josh a show! We LOVE him!
Posted by Mary – August 5, 2008 1:47 AM
Where was Mikey V last night? He was the only finalist not on the finale.
Posted by Jo – August 4, 2008 8:07 PM
I wished them both good luck, Jenn and Matt both did a great job through out the show. I also enjoyed Trish and Mikey V's idea choices as well, not to mention Mikey V's body, lol.
Though I liked both I liked Matt's final design better than Jenn's. I didn't like the fire place or the living room placement. The tv stand was way to low, the colors were way to dark for the small area and the dinning room was smack dab right next to the couch. I liked everything Matt did with arrangement, to color, to hosting and over all personality and smile.
Posted by Renee – August 4, 2008 6:29 AM
I'm stuck in a time warp. I voted for Sparkle Josh who I've enjoyed so much seeing again, just would really like to shop with Sparkle Josh some more, I'll miss you.
I just couldn't vote for either one although I liked Matt's point of view on things as it was often out of the box.
Bye Sparkle Josh I sure hope we get the pleasure of your company again. The biggest mistake they did last year was removing you when it was so obvious you had a huge fan base.

I agree with a lot of the comments above. I truly believe that HGTV should choose BOTH Matt and Jen to be CO-HOSTS of a show. They do get along well together and have complimentary skills. They also have a lot of respect for each other. They would make perfect co-hosts.
Posted by Linda Fischer – August 2, 2008 11:38 PM
I love both! I like the ideas put forth about using both designers in one show. HGTV needs to get with the program. They always seem to be a bit behind with the time in their programming (hence cancelling Simply Quilts during the peak of quilt interest and putting so many shows on about selling houses during the realty crisis). It will be interesting to see who wins!
Posted by Mickie – August 2, 2008 9:46 PM
I have read the comments already posted & I would have a hard time decidung between Jen and Matt. I think they both have opposing strong points in their designs. Matt is the tool man and Jen is the detail woman. I have to agree with many who said that a tie between the two would be the best. I watch HGTV ALL of the time & I think it's time for a show with two designers. Both Jen & Matt have proven that they can be team players. A show with both of them would amount to the "Dynamic Duo" of interior design. If they had a show together I would give up CSI to watch!!!
Posted by tina lapointe – August 2, 2008 9:05 PM
My vote went to Matt. They are both talented, but Matt is an actual designer who can come up with fresh, new solutions to problems. I think Jen is a decorator who does some pretty wall murals, faux painting and the like. I also like Matt's sincerity and warmth as a host. I find Jen's personality and voice to be a bit grating.
Posted by labound – August 2, 2008 4:21 PM
If your voting is based only on the last challenge, I can understand wanting to make both Jen and Matt co-winners. I think Jen concentrated on the kitchen because she was inexperienced, and it was a huge success. Matt's best design choice all season was the chandelier. Has everyone forgotten the individual room challenge, when Matt's Thai temple didn't happen? I think Matt is very intelligent and made some calculated choices to appear pleasing to voters, but Jen is clearly the real designer and deserves to win Design Star.
Posted by Wilma – August 2, 2008 12:40 PM
I really want Jen to win but her designs are more my style. However, after reading all of the comments I LOVE the idea of Jen and Matt together! That would be DesignStar at it's best! The comradery that Matt showed on the last episode was wonderful. I think they could come up with some of the best rooms on HGTV. Please have a tie!!!!

Sparkle, I live in Memphis, but we're buying an older home (1969) on a gorgeous golf course lot in a lake retirement community in Arkansas (only 6 hours from Nashville). It needs a lot of work. If I treat you to the catfish buffet and let you ride my jet ski, will you come over for a weekend and give me a little advice? I'm not sure how I should hang the crystals on the stone fireplace. (p.s. I'm only half kidding...I LOVE your style!)

Am I the only person in the universe who is highly disappointed by this season????????????????? First, it has been exceptionally short, and we didn't see much individual work by the designers. I know you have to be able to get along w/ other people, but where were the incredible, creative rooms like David's final room and the crazy brown rug he had in an earlier
episode? Where was a final amazing suite by Kim Myles or that insane surfer guy's rooms? Geez!! Tell me the judges were joking when they said this was the best year yet! Especially after saying on almost all the earlier challenges how bad the designs were. Huuuhhh??!! save me from the looney bin, please! I couldn't decide and didn't vote because I didn't think either one was a solid , exciting designer- great on camera, lovely people, but sadly, I couldn't have cared less.
Posted by Jackie Adie – August 1, 2008 8:10 PM
They BOTH should be awarded/recognized as a winning team. What a break-away concept- an absolute tie.
They truly complement each other.
Posted by elissa feldmeyer – August 1, 2008 6:25 PM
Both are great, Jenn has it all Hosting, talent personality and great looks the camera loves her.
Good luck to both, I wish both could win!!!!
Posted by Rachel – August 1, 2008 4:50 PM
I'm with the folks who said they would love to see these two PAIRED on a show. That's the first thing I thought of after the final I'd love to watch them both as team - as we did in the final. Not sure what the format could be to showcase both their styles (cause don't think its' fair to ask them to combine them), but they both bring a fresh new perspective into the designs offering on HGTV..I'd hate to lose either one.
Posted by carolf – August 1, 2008 3:08 PM
Can't we have a tie? They would both be terrific on one show. Both have a superb eye for design, Jen is excellent with color and Matt with building skills, together they would totally rock bringing the yin and yang to a space.
Posted by Saphyra – August 1, 2008 3:07 PM
Matt and Jenn - as everyone says - hard choice. From day one I felt the judges were way too complimentary about Trish's presentation skills and not complimentary enough about Matt's. His presentation skills were really good from the beginning. I almost felt as if Trish was being groomed to be the next star. It was quite a surprise when she had her show cancelled. But here we are with Jenn and Matt and I can tell you they were my favorites from the beginning and I am loathe to choose just one. BTW I LOVE Kim Myles show - I think she comes up with fabulous designs each and every week. And David's show - well how can you not love David?
Posted by Patrice – August 1, 2008 2:29 PM
Quote: From the beginning I loved being 'surprised' by Matt's creativity. He ALWAYS brought in an original idea. It was a delight to see what different approach he could take. I also felt that his many commentaries throughout the weeks were very informative, articulate and professional with a pleasant voice tone. Did HGTV love him or what? It seems we usually got Matt's take on whatever was happening and it was positive, spot on and clear. I also felt that his 'teamplayer' personality showed throughout the weeks, not just on the last episode as he always made whomever he worked with 'look as good as possible' and showed terrific leadership in the process. Matt showed a unique design style which can be appreciated by many. It was far reaching, more complex and multi-dimensional- never simple.
YES YES YES!!!!! MATT IS AWESOME!!!!!! A TRUE VISIONARY AND INNOVATIVE DESIGNER!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Joy – August 1, 2008 9:24 AM
I think that Jen was brilliant in her use of color and design. Matt had a beautiful perspective.... but I gotta tell you. It was the red cabinets that took me OVER THE EDGE!!! So Jen gets my vote. These people needed a custom look that would remind them everytime that they walk in their house that the whole nation watched as something special happened to them. Both Matt and Jen deserve to be in the final two but it is Jen's design and painting that has won my vote. I love the way this girl thinks.

I have to "ditto" all of what Rose said.
Posted by Maria – August 1, 2008 1:39 AM
I couldn't even vote, they were both so good. The last 2 years were easy to choose, this year it is too hard to choose. Why couldn't HGTV have its own version of friends? Matt, Jen, Trish, Mikey V and Sparkle Josh?
Posted by Judy – August 1, 2008 1:25 AM
I like both Matt and Jen's personalities, but given a show, Matt is far more likely to come up with intriguing and atypical designs. Matt was my favorite from the first show because he seemed like the only person who is truly a professional designer and not just a decorator. I am appalled by the constant refrain from the judges that "this was the most impressive group." The first season was clearly the best. While I am not in love with David's show, he is by far the most talented and polished designer of all three seasons. And Alice was more traditional, but also very good and professional. Kim is great at coming up with good "craft" solutions, but so am I and I wouldn't consider myself a designer. I am not fond of her show.

I would live to see a show with BOTH of them, I think they would work well together!

Matt and Jennifer are great, good in front of the camera, hope the two of them host a show. Love all the ideas I get from the shows that are on, Candice is a miracle worker.
Would like more of the showing when a floor, etc., is being done, like a diy. I would like to see less body parts on some of the hosts.

I had no idea that my thoughts of a Jen and Matt show would be shared by so many. They do have very compatible personas, and an obvious respect and affection for each other. Why not let them pool their skill sets -- design, carpentry, artistry, empathy for their clients -- into one excellent show? As for you naysayers, I like both David and Kim's shows, as well as shows like Design on a Dime, which are a more realistic goal for our modest little suburban world.
Sparkle Josh, you just keep charming us all. Hope to see and hear from you more!

Matt could design, MikeyV as carpenter, Michael can shop, and Sparkle can host.
title of show...."TEAM G_A_Y"
btw. that's what Michael and Matt were called on After Elton, when details about MikeyV surfaced he was added.

Carolyn already said it: "I think it would be fair to both Matt and Jen for the brilliant and unfaltering efforts they have demonstrated throughout this long and ardous process. Choosing either one is thinking within "the box." One of the key elements of successful and visionary design is to be innovative, to dare to think outside of "the box," and to identify and establish new trends, which appeal to a universal audience--and which will eventually become authentic and time-transcending "classics." This is clearly the historical moment to go beyond the "expected," to be creative, to demonstrate a cutting edge "design vision," and to provide these two gifted designers with the opportunity of a lifetime, which they have both earned and deserve."
I was torn, could not vote for one over the othere, but together, they could be absolute dynamite!
Posted by Caryn Hutchinson – July 31, 2008 12:55 PM
I would be ok wit both winning but in reality i am and have been pulling for matt along only because of what i have seen him do on the show and know that inside of him there is the next design star just waiting to get out.. so i hope that matt wins the whole thing
Posted by Chuck Mason – July 31, 2008 12:13 PM
i voted for jen beacuse i really like how she's open and full of life and it would break my heart to see her lose.. beacuse she worked so hard
Posted by shay – July 31, 2008 10:48 AM
I loved Jenn's designs. Matt's designs were awesome too but I wouldn't watch Matt. He seems superficial and too"cheerleady". Love Sparkle Josh and this format. Josh has made me an HGTV website fan!
Posted by Karla Saroch – July 31, 2008 8:27 AM
Matt is great! Besides HGTV doesn't have a minimalist design show yet, do they? and even though its not my choice of styles, I think it would add variety to its lineup. He knows how to work it out without getting crazy stressed. Jenn's sweet and her designs are nice too. A favorite of mine is Mikey V., wish we could have seen another individual design of his, to see what he can really do. Mikey has got some skills!

i cant really say who i would vote for matt has certain qualities that i like and so does jen but the thing that is getting me is that jen had designed a smaller space that wasnt as big as matt's but i am totaly like i dont know who to vote for ughhhhhhhhhhhh they both are sooooooooooo talented and great designers. im just not gonna vote cause i dont know who too vote for

Hats of to all of you for another great competition!
I enjoyed Sparkles' commentary! He was great last season and would make a nice addition to any show you could dream up! I like the two competition
finalists! Both are talented--and compatable(hint)!
Although I cast my vote for Matt, I really liked the
red cabinets--what a risk--and they turned out great!
I felt both Matt and Jen listened to the homeowner and met their challenges. The large sectional, while looking nice in the final showing, created real issues for Jen. I think the carpenter was an
issue for her as well. However I felt you both did a Good job!!! You both were great! Matt--well the light fixture was awesome--I too thought of Sparkle when I saw it! Matt worked well with people assigned to help him, and did a fantastic job with the final look!
As for Kims'new show, I am disappointed, but it is
getting better as she matures into the position!
I look forward to the designer competition coming up! Thanks!

We love the idea of a Matt and Jen show. They work well together and are both very down to earth. It would be awseome!
Posted by sue – July 31, 2008 1:49 AM
I think both Matt and Jen are extremely talented. It would constitute an existential dilemma to choose one over the other. Thus, my decision is to choose both. I think it would be quite a success to have a design show featuring a collaborative effort between Jen and Matt. Matt is an accomplished carpenter and Jen is a very creative artist. Matt is highly innovative and resourceful. Jen has an excellent command of color and style. A female/male team would appeal to many viewers. Jen's red kitchen cabinets, combined with stainless steel appliances made a striking visual impression. Matt's dining room and magnificent chandelier made a stunning design statement. Both Matt and Jen are very warm, communicative individuals, who possess outstanding relational skills and excellent hosting ability. Both are kind, sensitive and humanistic, and project sweet and caring personalities. They are both adorable and easy to relate to, and they both disclose the ability to connect with viewers on television. In addition, they are highly empathic, sensitive to, and perceptive of their clients' needs. Matt's gesture of choosing Trish so that Micky V could help Jen with his carpentry skills was moving and superb. It was also sensitive to the feelings of, and validating of his colleagues, Trish and Micky V. He is a true gentleman and a natural diplomat. I think that combining both of their skills into one show would constitute a definite success for HGTV. In addition, I think it would be fair to both Matt and Jen for the brilliant and unfaltering efforts they have demonstrated throughout this long and ardous process. Choosing either one is thinking within "the box." One of the key elements of successful and visionary design is to be innovative, to dare to think outside of "the box," and to identify and establish new trends, which appeal to a universal audience--and which will eventually become authentic and time-transcending "classics." This is clearly the historical moment to go beyond the "expected," to be creative, to demonstrate a cutting edge "design vision," and to provide these two gifted designers with the opportunity of a lifetime, which they have both earned and deserve. From a humanistic perspective, this would be just and fair. From a commercial and marketing perspective, it would provide great returns for HGTV, with an almost guaranteed significant increase in viewers. It is rare to find two people whose "platonic" chemistry and ability to relate to each other is excellent. Don't pass up on this unique opportunity. Make it a Jen and Matt show!
Posted by Carilyn Guedes – July 31, 2008 1:31 AM
Too tough too choose! Letting either Matt or Jen go is ridiculous. I like a lot of the suggestions made here.
I wonder what's happening at HGTV. Why the yearly drive for more "design stars"? Particularly since HGTV has not shown much dedication to program development for the last 2 designer stars. Frankly I'm bored with both David and Kim. I think they are so personable but am no longer interested because they don't have compelling premises for their shows. It's not enough to decorate a home just because somebody wants them to do it. HGTV needs to provide program support for these 2 great people.
So here we are again watching them throw away good people like Design Star thinks they're American Idol. HGTV should decide whether it wants to be a creative venue with projects that attract long term fans or a reality tv drama fueled by the humiliating structure of the judging and the speed driven schedule that results in hysterical drama.
Now we going to have the design showdown with the familiar designers. I want the judges to be all the "loser" designers from all the past seasons. Can't WAIT to see if Sparkle Josh will cowboy up with his comments for this fiasco. And I hope we get to vote too!
Posted by Judy – July 30, 2008 11:55 PM
I voted for Jen because i love her deigsn and quite frankly a three year old could do better than all of matt's designs. I hope Jen wins. She is such a great desiner. I Think that mikey v. or else trish should have been the top 2 instead of matt (like eighther jen/trish or jen/mikey v.
i think that they were better than matt
Posted by Andrea – July 30, 2008 11:18 PM
I too think both should get a show or else be co-hosts. I think they work great together but would also love to see HGTV give them each a show. I would surely watch. I also love the chemistry between the final 4.
Matt and Jennifer are so genuine and I love their personalities - they compliment each other very well and I love seeing how they are truly happy for each other and the work they have done and how grateful they are. Great people!

I've followed all 3 seasons - love David. He's cute, endearing and enthusiastic - believeable. I really enjoyed both Jen and Matt and I don't favor one over the other. Chivalry still lives as he demonstrated in the final show. They both come across as being talented, genuine people who want the best they can give with what they have to work with. I'm on the side of the people who said a 'duo' show would be great - neither is a loser and I don't want either one to lose, but both to WIN!!!

I AM VOTING FOR MATT , I LOVED HIS WORK AND DESIGN
PLUS YOU NEVER SAW HIM GET UPSET LIKE SOME OF THE OTHERS . JEN'S WAS GOOD BUT THOUGHT THAT WHITE COUCH WITH CHILDREN WAS NOT THE RIGHT THING , PLUS THE SIZE OF IT WAS A LITTLE TOOOO MUCH . SHE COULD HARDLY GET IT IN THE ROOM AND ONLY LEFT ONE WAY TO GET IN AND SIT DOWN . I UNDERSTAND SHE WANTED A LARGE SOFA THAT WOULD BENFIT A BIG FAMILY BUT THAT WAS JUST TOOOO MUCH OF ONE BIG THING . I DID LOVE HER RED CABINETS !!
BUT ALL AROUND I LIKE MATT FOR OUR NEXT DESIGN STAR --- WOULD BE NICE IF BOTH WON AND HAVE A DOUBLE HITTER .
I LOVE HGN AND ONLY WATCH THAT CHANNEL MOST OF THE TIME WITH ALL THE DESIGN STARS WHICH EACH HAVE SO MUCH TO OFFER .
SPARKLE JOSH WAS GOOD SEEING YOU --- HOPE TO SEE MORE .
THANKS HGN FOR ANOTHER DESIGN STAR SEASON !!

I think Matt and Jen should do a show together. They are both great designers, work well together, get along with everybody and compliment each other. HGTV could have a real winner with this duo.

Love your comments, Sparkle Josh!! "Sparkle is the new black" - hahaha! Your show would definitely be KILLER - and talk about a "fresh look" for HGTV. We all LOVE you, including my husband and our young son...
I am so glad Design Star went to New Orleans, the "forgotten city." It was thrilling to see the amazing transformations for such wonderful families - I cannot remember every CRYING during an HGTV show, but I did after this one! I hope Matt wins, and voted for him, but both designers are truly remarkable and talented.

Jen and Matt, Matt and Jen. Dual winners. They are both great. I love their designs.
I love them both, It would be great if they could cohost. I loved both of their personalities. I can't choose one I love them both. Please vote them a duo. I would love for then to redo my whole house.
Good Luck Matt and Jen

I hope that Jen is the winner of this years 'Design Start', and I think that they should have show with Jen's husband as her co-star. After all they've been a team for 10 years, and HGTV has never presented a Husband/Wife team, it think that it would be a great show!!

I vote for Matt. I love David's show and would love to have a piece of his art work, its great. I also like kim and and her show, the are just two different views of designers and are great.Home and Garden is my favorite station.
Posted by sharon – July 30, 2008 2:52 PM
I think that both the finalists are talented, but I love Jenn as a person. She seems sweet and down to earth. And by the way, could you people stop bashing Kim!!! I don't like David's designs--most times they look like movie sets, but I realize that different people have different tastes. You are not going to like everyone's style! Play nice.
Posted by Blair – July 30, 2008 2:10 PM
Mat and Jen were great, but both got my vote. To all you people that want Josh back give it up he didn't win. Everyone should stop being so racist about Kim she's great, her designs are out of the box you all don't even have a clue. To the lady that talks about to expensive for me all of their designs cost or maybe you should watch design on a dime and stop dreaming.
Posted by Deja – July 30, 2008 2:06 PM
I think that HGTV should use both Matt and Jenn. But I also liked Trish and Mikey V. I was so glad when Tracey was voted off. She had trouble getting along with the others. Matt and Jenn should both become design stars. I voted for Kim last year but I hate her show. Miles of Style is boring. She comes across as fake and trying to pretend that she has a personality. I've tried to watch her show but it doesn't hold my attention because it is so dull. I love to watch David in Color Splash. His natural personality shines through in every episode.
Posted by Deidre – July 30, 2008 1:57 PM
Tough choice again this year!
I chose Matt, I think his designs are very original and have a longer life as Interior Designs, Jennifer's wall art and furniture painting has a "life" or "era" attached to it. Love both of their personalities and designs they showed on Design Star. I vote duo "Design Star" this year.
Posted by Jan b – July 30, 2008 1:48 PM
I really like both Jen and Matt. That would be great if they could be co-hosts because they are equally talented and each could bring a lot to a design show.
My favorite designer on HGTV is Candice Olsen. She is so creative and delivers winning rooms each and every time. I'd give anything to have her come to my house and work her magic with my kitchen and dining room!
Good luck Jen and Matt.

I think the chemistry between Jen, Matt & Mickey V is pure gold. It is so hard to manufacture chemistry like that. It would be so great if you could find a way to use them together!
Posted by Deb – July 30, 2008 12:17 PM
This challenge has been difficult to make a decision on because I like both Jen and Matt. So I have go to decide which one of those houses I would prefer to live in after the design. I chose Jen's design. It spoke to my since of Romance more than Matt's.
Posted by Theresa Ross – July 30, 2008 12:17 PM
When Tiger Woods plays Phil Mickelson at golf, do they call it a tie at the end to make the viewer feel good? This is a contest, and may the best man win. I don't watch "Regis and Kelly", and frankly, I tuned in to see who would win, not to call it a tie.
Posted by Tracey – July 30, 2008 11:53 AM
To go through all of the audtitioning, challenges, judging, and then end up co-hosting with another contestant? I really don't think either of the two would like that. They both worked very hard to get to this point, so I hope HGTV does not make them co-hosts. I'm sure once the votes are counted there will be a clear winner that deserves the rights to his/her own show. That's what competitions are about. Good luck to both Matt and Jen.

I voted for Matt. I liked both Jen and Matt, very talented but at the end for me Matt's design was better. It was a very tough decision. Jen should have the opportunity to co-host a show, she is great too! .

Add me to the crowd voting for dual winners. And add me to the crowd that LOVES David Bromstad. Now, admittedly there are more comments that I have NOT read than ones that I have read (too many to read them all) but I am amazed that I have not seen anyone address the chemistry between Mikey V. and Trish. Did anyone besides my husband and I notice that? It seemed ironic that she had her wedding ring cut off while leaning on Mikey V!!!! There were a lot of little things in several of the episodes that made it appear something was going on between those two.

Jen was very creative with her use of paint. I loved the art she did on the walls. However, I think HGTV needs a talent like Matt. His creative carpentry is refreshing and they don't have anything like him on tv. Either one would be good a choice. Wasn't so thrilled with Kim's show. She had some really strange designs.

I think we should start a campaign letting HDTV know that the overall majority wants a show hosted by both Matt and Jenn. It's something different than any of the shows they presently offer and would offer viewers variety. We could call it "Design Times Two" or "Double Take".... or they could have a contest for the best title! Let's let HDTV know that we won't watch another design show hosted by just one person. We want co-hosts! It's worked for Regis and Kelly for years! We want co-hosts! We want co-hosts! We want co-hosts!

I love the idea of Matt & Jen co-hosting a show. It's not fair to have to choose between the two. Mikey V is fabulous too! Please include all 3 of them on TV shows!!
Posted by Patt – July 30, 2008 8:22 AM
What a tough decision. Both of the finalist were soooo good, it was a very difficult choice. I think the judges made a good choice with Jen & Matt as the two finalists. They seemed to be the strongest of all of them this season, although I thought Trish and Mikey V. both did a commendable job during this period and I was happy to see them brought back to help. Kudos to Matt for letting Jen have Mikey V.'s help for doing the kitchen. I think that showed a lot of consideration and thoughtfulness. Frankly, I won't be disappointed no matter who wins. I think they both have what it takes to host a show.

All I watch is HGTV. David and Candice are my favorites, I do not like "hidden potencial" at all. My favorite was Mikey V, let him team up with Jen, my second choice, better still
have all three work togather, or alternating, then we would not have to see so many re runs. What ever happened to Kenneth Brown, I liked his show and style also? When will Candice do homes in the USA? Thanks for Sparkle Josh, his touch was great, keep him in the loop.
Thanks, cause I'm hooked on HGTV and looking forward to the Summer Sunday Challange.

Add me to the list of people who feel BOTH Matt and Jennifer should win and co-host. I think they would make a terrific duo.
I'm also one who loves David Bromstad - an extremely talented young man - but not impressed with last year's winner. I hope David's show continues forever!
Good luck to Matt and Jennifer - may they both win! Each has talent to offer.

I love both Matt and Jen's designs, and think they would do well in a show together! Thank goodness that Trish lady wasn't in the top two.... she acted like a two year old that first episode, and can't believe how long the judges kept her on--- guest it was for the ratings 'cause it can't be the designs!! I love Jen's energy and Matt's thinking outside the box. Both are soooo very creative make them a winning combination! Season 1 was fabulous, and I love David's show and his artwork is to die for. Can't stand Kim's...Her designs are NOT miles of styles, and the wrong person won that season! I have to say, this season's top two are 300% better than last season's winner, and both deserve to win!

I am voting for Matt. Who he is comes across has genuine - honest, compassionate, a true ingrained passion for what he does. I want to see more of what he has to offer. He is someone I would tune in to watch;I have always watched David's show;sadly as sweet and infectious as Kim is - I have only seen two of her episodes.

Hi sparkle Josh. It was so good to see you again on HGTV. I thought from the very beginning that you would have won your own show. But it is good to see that you are a very good sport about it all and maybe you can continue the guest cameos to keep giving your perspective.I like Jennifer alot, but I thinnk Matt should win because he is very passionate and natural in his approach.Even in the final challenge he gave to Jennifer so she could have his carpenter first because she had never done a kitchen.Matt rocks, but so does sparkle Josh!!
Posted by Lonnie – July 30, 2008 12:09 AM
MATT!!!! Not only is he a great designer, he listens to the client, is very enthusiastic, and doesn't fold under pressure. I couldn't believe that after he so graciously let Jen have Mikey V. on the last challenge, Jen's comment was something like "now you'll get all the votes" Wow, kick a gift horse in the mouth. My vote is for Matt.
Posted by Susan – July 30, 2008 12:00 AM
Jen is good, and she's very personable, but Matt should win. He has come up with some fantastic ideas (the loft bed, the mannequin-to-flower sculpture, the moving TV wall to hide the kiln)! Also, I read another person's comment that Mikey V. should be the carpenter--I think that's an excellent idea! Matt & Mikey V. seem to like each other and get along great, and I think they would make a super show together! (Plus, Mikey V. needs to get off the streets before he gets shot or hurt--he's too cute to be a police officer!) Mikey V. needs to be on TV and would make a great sidekick to Matt!
Go, Matt!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts exactly! I hope to see more of Sparkle Josh on this website!

Sparkle Josh is so fantabulously sparkalicious. Wish HGTV would find something for him to host. Really liked Jen's clever spin. Matt gets sparkle kudos for that lamp. Jenn however really pulls it off and I'd like to see Trish team up with them. Mikey worked so wonderfully too. I like how she took everything that was weird from the previous design challenge and really took it to the next level. Think that Jenn and Matt could pair up together and work wonders.
Posted by Angie – July 29, 2008 11:37 PM
Sparkle Josh! YOU should have your own show on HGTV!
I voted for Matt, he is just good and is so enthusiastic on camera.
Jen is good also, but white furniture with children? Eventually those people will curse her name!

There is an out cry for Matt and Jen to do a show together. Which I posted a message on Sunday night saying the same thing. I also was thrilled to see Trish and Mikey V come back to help. To get to the point... I just read a message that stated that Mikey V should be included as an excellent carpenter! I second that. That would be a great HGTV show!!!!

I LOVE Sparkle Josh! He is such a looker and I wish I was his type! But, alas.....

I'm voting for both Jen and Matt. I have to admit I am somewhat biased because I live in the same metropolitan area (go Kansas City!!) as Jen, but I truly do agree with the consensus that the producers need to "break the rules" and somehow come up with a way to name them co-Design Stars. Of all of the seasons it seemed to me that this season's final four (Trish and Mikey V. rounding out the top 4) really, genuinely liked each other so creating a show with Jen and Matt together would be great!! Maybe the rules won't allow for two "winners", but HGTV needs to listen to their loyal viewers and figure out a way to give Jen and Matt a show together or two separate shows.
Posted by Julie – July 29, 2008 9:22 PM
Sparkle, you need to have your own show! Your awesom. Maybe you and Clive could do a 1-2 punch for the Design Star hosting next season. I absolutely loved the Final Four. I think HGTV could make big $$$ by coupling them together or letting them have their own shows. In the end, I voted for Jen, I loved her style, but thought Matt was also a great contender.
Posted by Vicky – July 29, 2008 9:16 PM
I watch HGTV all the time. I think for the first time, they should have Jen & Matt co-host the show together. They are to good to pick one over the other.
Posted by Fran – July 29, 2008 8:47 PM
Although, Jen & Matt both have decent skill, I saw nothing extraordinary and unique about their designs. But if i had to choose i would choose Matt. His designs were better and he would be great to work with. As far as Kim's show, I really enjoy watching Kim's show and have never missed an episode. Keep in mind, Kim did not enter the contest with degrees in design or carpentry. I think she has true talent.

My wife hooked me on HGTV and Design Star last year. I don't have a designer's bone in my body and that's what she brings to me. HGTV and Design Star have made watching design exciting even for someone like me. Thanks Sparkle for having great personality and giving last year... well... Sparkle! Thanks to HGTV for bringing him back for this feature. We're with everyone else... we can't decide either! It'll be something silly that'll finally make the difference. The show together thing would really be a groundbreaker! Best of luck to all. Sometime HGTV needs to do a follow-up show on what has happened to the contestants of past Design Stars.

Love them both, I agree they should have a show together. I had to vote for Jennifer, I love her artist flare. Would love for her to do a room in our house.
Posted by Carol Sargent – July 29, 2008 6:52 PM
Well, I am so undecided that I plan to vote for Jen today and Matt tomorrow. Matt was so incredibly altruistic letting Jen use Mikey V first..as he knew that would be the most advantageous move for her and he could handle the bulk of his work himself the first day and leave it in the very capable hands of Mikey the next day while he was out shopping.
Jen- I was concerned about all of her angst over the sofa...not perhaps her shining moment, and, should she win, I hope tears will not become a constant.
I love how they both really throw themselves into their projects from day one. Matt had a few nights that were like "what the heck?" (the country of choice night) that were not his shining moments.
I have to commend them both as well, for the most part, being as tolerant of Tracee as they were. I think I would have blown a gasket, but they kept level heads and plunged ahead.
So...two votes it is.
David- still love his show. Kim's I have seen a few times, and though her designs may not fit my family's needs, her clients seem more than happy and that is what counts.
The only thing I wonder is - what was Cynthia thinking with that outfit in episode 8???? I suppose it is a fashion trend, but gladly one I won't be checking out. Might want to rethink that look.
Though I really appreciate Vern's talent, I found that the judges were overall not particularly kind, not always constructive, and not always interesting in their responses.
The night that the couch not fitting into the Opryland Suite...was a major disappointment. NO ONE said a word. Not one single word about the fact that there was a couch at first and that fitting it through the doorway was a problem. Felt bad for her but she could have at least said something! Clive knew, for Pete's sake! Of course I realize he couldn't say anything most likely, but sheesh! I also realize she just sort of missed it- but I am sure it has been done by even the most professional of designers ...just missed those "little glitches".
Hopefully her career will take off in spite of it all. Good luck.
Look forward to Sunday night's show.

I would vote for Jen, but a duo show would also be good. David is your best designer and how anyone can watch Kim Miles is beyond me. She is awful and I switch the channel whenever she comes on....she is sooooooo fake!
More of david, none of Kim and a duo host show to go. Yeah!

I think they both did a fabulous job. I want them both to win. Matt is the edgey one and thinks out of the box, but Jen gets the nod for always remembering the things that make a home a home. Together they would make a great team, each one has just the right amount of talent and ideas to compliment the other. Their personalities seem to mesh and the outcome of a combined show would be sensational. Now lets see if HGTV can break the mold and think outside the box. Lets call it the New Design Stars!!!
Posted by Mary Ann – July 29, 2008 5:35 PM
Matt and Jen performed at the top overall throughout the competitions, each bringing their own originality to designing. Matt is very creative and has expertise in multiple skills, is so compassionate and follows the client's wishes, has a unique eye for design, and delivers a thought-out finished product. Jen is a talented designer with impressive artistic abilities, her enthisiasm is infectuous and she would be a great tv personality. Matt too would make an awesome host because his caring and passion show thru. Both did awesome jobs in the final designs--loved both kitchens (what the clients wanted); loved both dining rooms--Jen's striped walls were terrific and Matt's room was excellent especially being enhanced by the lighting fixture; loved Matt's living room tho he could have used more accent pieces, and Jen's living room was matched to the number of people but NOT the white sofa where kids are present daily. CAN'T DECIDE WHICH ONE IS BEST --- I agree with others that BOTH SHOULD CO-HOST a show. Good luck to both!

A network like HGTV can certainly afford to pay two people to have a show, so I like that idea. At the same time Matt and Jen have different design styles, so I don't know how they'd really work together. The HGTV shows each have a "hook" or point of view (one reason I think that Kim's show isn't working as well - a weak "hook" or "thing" as compared to David's Color focus).
I can see HGTV emphasizing Matt's kind of "architectural" and minimalist point of view in a show. He creates minimalist yet warm environments. Jen on the other hand has a joyful perspective. I could see a Joy of Jen kind of show where she takes drab rooms and makes them lively. Hmmm. Hard!
A general comment on the DesignStar show: I like Clive in his other shows, but I don't like him here. I hate the elimination segment. It's so stiff and dark. I don't understand why they do it like that. It's stupid and out of character with the rest of the show and the people involved. There can be other ways to do the elimination. I hope HGTV is reading these comments :-)
If you watch the Next Food TV Network Star Show (or whatever it's called), their elimination is kind of stupid too. Have you noticed that the judges are all sitting at a table that's too small for them? They're all crowded shoulder to shoulder - like FoodTV can't afford a larger table?! Top Chef does it better. There - I had my say.
Sparkle, I love your Elizabeth Montgomery hairdo!

I like both of the finalists, but I think Matt has an edgier style that makes him unique. One thing that bothered me about Jen was her comment to Matt after he graciously allowed her Mikey's help on the first day. She said, "Now you're going to get more votes." I just feel that when someone does something out of non-competitive kindness, she should know enough not to respond with a comment that seems to question his motives. But the best of luck to them both!
Posted by Matt – July 29, 2008 4:26 PM
I'm joining the "loved them both" crowd.
I understand those who are not always crazy about Kim OR David's designs, but that's because they're working for different people.
I really disliked Tracee and couldn't believe the judges kept bringing her back. NO one would have watched a show with her as the "witchy" designer!
Mikey V was a talented designer, but not a commanding presence as a host. Sure wish you could use his talents. Maybe he'll have enough exposure to ensure his own business at home.

Oh, how hard it is to choose!! I still like Jen's designs a lot better than Matt's designs. I like Jen's happy personality and Matt has really come out of his shell!! Boy. I really like them both, but when it comes down to who would I really want to do one of my rooms, I'd have to choose Jen. I love this show! I can't wait for next year already, and Jen's season!! I still watch Color Splash. David is the best by far, even though I don't like some of his designs his art work is to die for! I've watched some of Kim's shows. Her show doesn't motivate me as much as David's. Look how far he's come with his hosting!! Jen is just a happy, bubbly person. I would really look forward to a show hosted by her.
Hurry up!! I can't wait!!

I liked Jen's design better, (I am not a minimalist). I also think they would be great on a show together! I do think that David is the most talented and although I voted for Kim I now think that was a mistake. I hate her designs. I wish Todd would have won that one.
Posted by Janet – July 29, 2008 3:55 PM
Like many of the viewers, I agree that the new design show should have Matt and Jen as co-hosts. They seem to genuinely like each other and would work well together. I love Mikey V. so he should get the role of the carpenter. I am voting for both in the hopes that the producers read these comments and break the mold of "Design Star" to "Design Stars." Can't wait til Sunday night!!

HGTV should take the advice of viewers and have both Matt & Jenn, do a show together. I also agree with other statements made, that David Bromstad is the best ever, and Kim Myles is boring. Most of Kim's "designs" are just plain UGLY.

Matt's the guy! I liked Jennifer well enough but feel like her projects were a different version of the same design each time. Matt had different outcomes and got better and better each time. I just didn't "feel" Jen's style and/or ability. I'm sorry but I disagree with comments about last years winner, Kim. I like Myles of Style!! I don't always like the outcome but I like her way of planning the room, explaining "how to" etc...and have liked more rooms than not. I also enjoy Color Splash and David but don't always like the outcomes either. I am voting for Matt and looking forward to seeing him on tv!

SPARKLE JOSH, I want to see you have your own show. I thought you where crazy when I first saw you but you are AWSOME!!!! I could hang out w/you all day and know I will have a great time. Alright, as far as the two left, I love both of them and not even just for there designs, which is pretty good but for Jen being so fun loving and Matt for being so compassionate about it all, so I agree w/some other people on here that they would be great to have a show together they would bring great balance to the show and they seem to get along very well. This will be a flip of the coin for me this time so good luck to you both. Sparkle Josh, you rock baby!!!!!!!!!!!

Both Matt and Jennifer are very good at designing on their feet. One has a talent for artistic flair the other thinks out of the box. How about a show with both of them together.

I've got to give this one to Matt. His ideas lean towards creativity. From the first show he has proved to be innovative. The others have just made some good shopping choices. Look what he did in his parents home with hiding the kiln. That was brilliant. I feel that with Matt it won't be your stock paint the wall, buy a new couch show. He'll give us genuine ideas on how to handle different design style challenges in our homes.

First, I don't understand the criticism of Jen for have a small table. She had two tables which is what is needed for that large family in that space. She didn't have a large separate dining room like Matt did. If the main table were bigger, it would have been too crowded (although I'll bet there is another leaf or two in the closet). However, the two tables are close enough so that everyone can be together. Hasn't anyone ever had a kid's table at Thanksgiving?
In addition, she chose glass and clear plastic for the small table that left the space open and made it seem larger. Someone wondered why she didn't use bar stools, but I think that would have, again, crowded the space. The table replaces the stools.
As for the stripes, I think she did that instead of a design on the walls because of Vern's criticism last week. I kind of liked it myself, but I would have liked one of her unique designs better. Vern's not voting this week, and I think he was wrong.
I do think the white couch was a mistake both in color and size. She should have taken better measurements and planned the layout before shopping. In fairness, Matt used white chairs in the dining room, but I don't know if kids were an issue in his house.
As for Matt, he received some criticism for the starkness of the kitchen, but "minimalist" is what the homeowner wanted. I don't think she would have liked the cherry apron. Maybe if Jen had spent a little less time on kitchen frou-frou she would have done a better job with the living room. I loved the fireplace, but it needed something. Didn't like the tv area much at all.
I started not to vote for either of them because I like them equally for different reasons. However, I'm leaning toward Matt and have already given him 2 votes today. I'm saving my other 3 for later.
To the producers, my husband and I both loved this show. He is a police officer, and really appreciated the fact that these two civil servants were rewarded and assisted for their service to others. We were appalled that they had to wait this long. We hope that more shows like this channel their production money to those who have waited patiently to be remembered by their fellow citizens.

The first 4 episodes of this season were so boring. No one really stood out - tho' Matt & Jen's work was the best. They both shined in the final show. Good luck to both!!!

Sparkle, it is good to see that you didn't just disappear after your desin challenge.
I say again, KILL THE JUDGES. How dare they say this was a million times better than the other two finals! What a put down for David Bromstad who's show continues to be renewed. And Vern Yip last year voting for Todd Davis and his quarterpipes, broken furniture, and Lazy Susan's in living spaces Then being all sugar sweet on Deserving Design about doing liveable spaces. I never watch his show. GET NEW JUDGES!
I agree the contestants should have more time. And I'd like to see more of their designs and less of the getting out of bed, teeth brushing and makeup. And skip the bickering.
Cut out the group challenges. If you want to see how they organize and direct a team--give them a team with a painter and a carpenter and see how they interact.
Even tho Jen dropped the ball with a dining room table too small for the family,(did it have an extension?) I liked that she accessorized with dishes on the table, a plant by the fireside, and things on the kitchen counter. Matt's only contribution was the Indian goddess bust. Minimalist does not mean BARE.
For those of you who can't read directions, I guess you don't get a vote.

Now that this season is over,it will be interesting to see what Matt will do because we all know what Kim can't do.She may do hair well but can't design, watched her first show and turned off all the rest.Stripes on the celing, get real.Jen--well all she had in her living room was a white couch wich was tooo big and white. All she had in there was a couch and a tv??.Red cabinets will get real old real fast. Matt's whole idea was more for dailey living.I have watched HGTV for a long time and enjoy it.The concept has sure changed over the years, gone are the days of crafts and the how to's, to buying a home, selling a home, cleaning a home. The first two needs to be asked of a realtor and the last one can only be said that soap and trash bags are really cheap.Share with us here in tv land not only the before and afters but include the names of the paint and where to find the vase, more enfo on insatalling the counter top etc:Getting off the soap box, I will say Matt seems to be the one to replase Kim.

I agree with Teri. Break with tradition and give us the Matt and Jen show. Matt was very gracious in allowing Jen to have Mikey V first.
There were things that I like about each of the designs. So far with this series, I think that they can't find anyone better than David Bromstad. His designs in season one were inspired. Kim Myles great on air personality but doesn't have a clue about design.Next season do a better job screening candidates.

Finally, a choice that I can make with a good conscious. Two designers, both with good qualities. One a man, and one a women. My vote goes to Jen. If either one of them would make a good design star, then my vote is for the female. Can you tell, I'm a Hillary fan?

I always LOVE to see and hear from Sparkle Josh--what an uplifting personality and smile--he always makes my day seem brighter--thank you, Sparkle Josh!
While I like both designers, I have to vote for MATT--he is a soulful designer, artist & builder--it seems he can do it all, plus, he has a spirit and aura about him that makes people feel better and he LISTENS to the needs/wants of the people he is designing and building for while he also "listens" to the spirit of the place (room) he is designing in/for-there are not many other designers that have this special something it takes to make things better for people, to make such positive changes in their life and to give that cheerful hope that all human beings reach out for everyday--there is a deep, sensitive faith in MATT that can be passed on to thousands, maybe millions, of people who he designs & builds for, and to those who watch him on TV.
It is encouraging to me to know that there are still souls like MATT who live on this earth and can touch people's lives and make such a difference! Thank you MATT & SPARKLE JOSH!

I found this season to be the most bland of all. I think the judges were even bored this year. Their comments didn't seem to express any more interest than the designs they were evaluating. But overall, I have to say I liked Matt a little better. He seemed to design more than just decorate. I think either one will have an okay show, much like last year's winner, Kim. Nothing spectacular, but worth a look now and then.

This is my first season to watch and I have to say I am now hooked on HGTV. I enjoyed watching this show so much. I love both Jen and Matt they are both great designers and very personable in front of the camera. I also agree with most others out there and think a show with both of them would be great, they work so well together. But if we can choose only one it has to be Matt, his work is awesome and his personality just shines in front of the camera. Love ya Jen but got to vote for Matt.

While I do love Sparkle and think he's a doll I wouldn't want to watch an entire show of his designs. I have to say I disagree with most about Matt being the winner and think that Jen is the only way to go. You can't just base your opinion on the last show, you should base it on the whole season. Jen obviously did much better in every challenge! She is artistic, and genuine, and I would love to watch her presenting a do-it-yourself type show.
I also want to say I still love David, and love Color Splash...he is so talented and adorable!!! And while I voted for Kim last year I'm completely disappointed in her show and dislike her designs.
I'm hoping everyone reconsiders their vote for Matt and chooses Jen based on the whole season, plus his kitcen was just ugly and not thought out. Give Jen a break, her house was half the size of Matt's and he had 3 people to consider and Jen had a football team to design for.
VOTE FOR JEN!!!!

Jennifer and Matt are both great designers, each with their own unique style but what decided my vote was how each faced a crises. Matt saw that the red paint he choose was rolling up on the walls and met the challenge head-on, switched to another paint and got the job done. Jennifer sat down and cried when she realized the huge white (what a bad color for a large family with children) did not fit the small living room. I felt she should have taken her room measurements and space planner with her so she would know what size furniture to buy. Also the sectional had connecters that restricted how the units could be used and she should have checked each piece to see how it went together to make sure it could be separated. Based on each designer's ability to adjust quickly and creatively to unforeseen challenges, I voted for Matt.

I really like them both!! I love the idea of co-hosts!! They should both win and just make one show with both of them!!! I would watch it!!

I vote for BOTH -- The Jenn & Matt Design Show. They are both great!!! Has HGTV ever thought of 2 designers together???

A tough one this year. Did not know who I was voting for untill I sat at the conputer and review each message!!! I liked Jennifer from the start but Matt is great also. What about a tie?? I picked Jennifer though.

Both did a great job. This is so much better than "The Apprentice," in that almost all of the candidates were talented and the emphasis was on competence rather than "gimmicks." Excellent show--I am now hooked. Matt did a better job overall, even though Jen pulled through at the end. White leather couch=No No for a family with kids--I ought to know, I have a similar white leather couch! The red cabinets were great, but that was the ONLY thing that "popped" for me in all of Jen's efforts, and the family wanted the red. As for Matt, he added thoughtful and creative touches in every room. Some were subtle, but they were always there. He seemed to "connect" better with not only what the family WANTED but ALSO with what the family NEEDED. He was more "spot on" than Jen. Also, Jen got too flustered. She made a mistake with the couches (did not realize they had connectors on them), did stripes on the wall (WHY?), put design ahead of function (white couch), got too emotional (hey, it's 36 hours, get over it and do what you are supposed to be doing rather than whining or crying), and her hosting ability was less polished and more amateurish. That said, I think BOTH are way above average and extremely talented! Both have winning personalities and "stage presence" when push comes to shove. Both did a lot for "their" families. However, I think Matt's work will be more enduring and will stand the test of time in terms of functionality and family satisfaction.
PLEASE FIX THE VOTING BUTTONS!

My vote is for Matt. Jen a white couch with children, NO WAY. Then just where were they all to eat, not at that small glass table.
Posted by Lois – July 29, 2008 10:25 AM
I agree, Josh. I would watch either Matt or Jennifer. Both are wonderful persons, both have great camera presence, and both are great designers. I give Matt the edge here as he is not only also a master carpenter, but seems to pay attention to the details with regard to how things are constructed, and could therefore be changed to fit the room if necessary.

I think that there was an answer for Jen's room, if she had the larger table and put it in the fireplace area and moved the family room to the front, that should have given a better flow to the room and the dining room would have been by the kitchen making it easier for serving....the red cabinets were great and I am doing that myself after seeing them, I do think that she needed more color maybe in bright floor cushions for the kids and bright thow pillows for the sofa.

I think both contestants did an awesome job. I was disappointed that Jen did not buy bar stools for the tall counter. These would have been appreciated with such a large family. Also, I feel the dinning room table was too small and the white couch was not a very kid friendly choice.
So my vote goes to Matt. He listemed to the wants of the family by keeping the design minimalistic, but also wasn't afraid to add the upper cabinets in the kitchen, on one side, which are a must when it comes to re-sale for any house. His choice to give Mikey to Jen first was very unselfish and classy. Loved the crystal light in the dining room, too.
I agree a show with both Matt and Jen would be a success!!!!

Jenn, I loved your kitchen! That was fab! Since you went with white leather and stripes, that tells me you can do either style and design. You'd be great and I will surely watch your show. I loved your shabby chic as well!
Matt you are the best, you have great ideas, and you seem to really care about what your doing for the people, your heart for what you do, really shines. With all that said, I say what many others have said, GIVE THEM BOTH A SHOW. I have to vote for both of them, because I couldnt get it down to just one.
Trish scared me with her leather looks, twice! So manly, but I loved the fact that she was willing to come back to help, she was the only contestant who left, that was NOT interviewed, that was a rip!
All in all, I feel connected to the last four, and I believe they would all be great design stars, and you dont have to be on TV to do a great job, and work for yourselves. SO THANKFUL Tracee is gone! But I do believe that she was sit up for failure from the word go.
Michael, You were the one I MOST wanted to BE GONE, then Tracee.
I would watch Matt or Jen, but if they were on together, Id probably never miss! I love David too, and Candice!! HOW DEVINE!

I'm casting my vote for the "Matt and Jen Show". Matt brings the carpentry/construction aspect (wow on the bed in the first challenge!), Jen brings the bling (love the wall painting!), the two of them would deliver the magic.
Posted by Kathy – July 29, 2008 8:45 AM
Matt is my choice. UNLESS I could vote for Sparkle Josh. He is delightful. HGTV are you listening to your viewers?? We want Sparkle in our lives so give us JOSH PLEEEASE!!!
Posted by Judy S.Smith – July 29, 2008 8:28 AM
My husband and I like both of the finalist. We agree with everyone. It would be a fantastic show to have both of the designers. Matt is a problem solver and thinks outside the box. Jennifer is perfect for the design elements. They would be great together as co-hosts.
Love Design star.. except for last year. I dont care for Miles style of decorating. I always looks like a craft project.

Matt gets my vote. He can bring something more unique to HGTV.

Watching the show from the beginning with my 9 year old son (he loves giving his opinion as well about the designs, which ones he likes the best), we both agreed about Matt truly being the best. He always comes up with creative solutions. We weren't crazy about the Buddha sofa thing, but that seems to be the only room he made a design error in. Jennifer is very predictable (there will be a painted design on the wall in EVERY house she does). Our vote goes for Matt, hands down. In the last episode he truly have the owners what they requested. I believe anyone with children would NOT request an enormouse white couch. Also, where is the boldness? Red cabinets, that's it. She could have done so much more. I hate the stripes, that's not bold, just ugly. Would have liked to have seen her do a lot more with color. Although I don't like mimimalism, Matt pulled it off beautifully for his clients. My vote goes for him, hands down. Also, I like watching his hosting style, funny and to the point. He nailed it!!!

I said it before everyone ,we should have a Matt&
Jens show or Jenn& Matt show for hgtv to hit a home run, even though Iam voted all the way for Matt, they would be an asset to each other, and when they do that hgtv should give the first make
over, I watch hgtv 24/7 and I have this season
Design Star show all recorded.
I hated tracee, she was to long in the show, cant get along with anyone, Mikey V was sent home prematurely, and wasnt fair for trish to get a rookie carpenter, I loved her & Matt and it would
have given me a headache to choose either one, I
cant wait for the crowning of the winner.
P.s. I had to skip work sunday to see the last show and to cheer for Matt.
Good Luck Matt, your designs ROCK!.

I loved the red in the kitchen! I agree with everyone else, it would be really fun to see Matt and Jen together. It is a shame to see either one of these talented people lose. They are both so creative in totally differnt ways, they really compliment each other. Come on, HGTV--knock our socks off and do the right thing, give them a show together--all your viewers would benefit.

I agree with other; Jenn and Matt together !! It would be a show I watched every week.

Sparkle Josh....You are awesome! I would love to see a "Sparkle Josh" show on HGTV!
As for Jen & Matt. They are both awesome. I think that they both deserve a show of their own. Because at this time only one can win, I am voting for Jen because I like her creativity best, her special wall design, and her personality. Everytime she is on, I just have to smile!
I also love David on "Color Splash." I voted for him and absolutely love him and his show!

Love both Jen and Matt. Agree with others, would love to see them both host a show! Both are gracious, talented and energized. There are so many new shows coming on, which am loving new shows, however, can't both of these wonderful people and excellent designers be on a show too?
Posted by Cathy – July 29, 2008 3:38 AM
Matt's got my vote! Jen's use of a white sofa with so many in the family is crazy (I had a white leather sofa once myself - bought before kids - trust me, it didn't last long!) Also, the fact that she didn't provide a large table for the family to eat together really bothered me. I felt she didn't really think of what the family needed, unlike Matt.

Oh, Sparkle Josh, thank you so much for adding a twinkling, upbeat, delightful edge with your commentary on the shows this season. I looked forward to watching you as much as the shows. My fingers are crossed that HGTV will continue to find room for you and keep you linked to the fan base I'm sure you are amassing.
To the others who commented on Kim, I like her shows. I voted for her and I think she's doing a terrific job. She's very down to earth and sincere and her designs aren't far out.
David, of course, is amazing. I just love him.
I'm crazy for Jennifer and Matt. It's so difficult to make a choice. It wouldn't really be fair to pair them for a show, since the contest is to solo host a show. But I hope that HGTV finds another spot somehow for the one who comes in second. They are both so likeable with lots to offer to viewers, it would be a shame to lose either one. If they added more shows maybe they wouldn't run the same shows so many times, which causes me to switch channels. After all, how many times can one watch the same episode of any show?
So, SJ, I hope we'll be seeing you again soon. Until then, stay sweet...xoxox Jane, NY

Yea !!! What a great idea - co - hosts. Both are so talented, but, in different areas - she's more artistic, but, he's got the building skills- perfect combination.
If I had to choose- I'd probably choose Jennifer, still - I like the idea of co- hosts. Can I vote for that ?

Wow, big choice here. I really thought that Matt's rooms were better even though they were very clean. Hey, that's what the homeowner's wanted, and I personally like the idea of leaving room for the homeowner's to add in some of their personal things to really personalize the space. I don't like the idea of accessories just to have accessories, it's more fun to have things you pick up on vacation, or see and love, so they have a story and meaning. Hey, if I have to dust it, it better have meaning!!! I think Jen's rooms made her family happy, and maybe it was just me or the lighting or something, but the kitchen colors just looked off a bit. I have no problem with bold cabinets, mine are cobalt blue and look awesome. But then mine are laminate. I think I would have preferred a reddish stain maybe on those great new wood cabinets, it almost seems a sin to paint something so nice. I also would have liked to see more color in the rest of the rooms to tie it all together. Matt's rooms had more and I think better use of color, so it wasn't just one bold color in one room. I also think Matt did a better job hosting. Jen keeps doing that "bye" thing at the end and always seems just a little nervous/rushed, though that's gotten better. Could I do better? No! But I still think Matt is better. I'm not sure about them doing a show together though. Maybe Jen could do one with her husband, that might work. Let me just say in conclusing, that I'm soooo happy that Trish got the boot. I couldn't really pay attention to her design because her personality was so irritating, grating, obnoxious, and prevented the other designers from doing better. And she couldn't host. Okay, long comment, sorry

I vote Matt because: Jenn gave that huge family a tiny dining space & filled the entire LR w/a WHITE sectional. The tiled fireplace wasn't her idea & the family wanted lots of bold color, but got all nuetral except for red cabinets. PLUS she stressed & cried thru the whole deal. I don't want to watch a show w/an emotional stressed out designer, there's enough drama in life, ok?
Matt gave his family what they wanted, needed, AND asked for. He also graciously let Jenn have Mike's much needed help the first day (imagine her stress level if Matt hadn't put her needs ahead of his!?!) Ya'll hush & let him wear his doo rags if he wants to.
I agree the judges are kind of a joke. How about some fresh faces there HGTV? If the shows about what America wants, why not let US judge the whole season, something like American Idol?
Myles of Style... no budget, no problem? I don't bother watching because Kim's idea of a budget is way more than mine & most of her designs are too expensive for the average person to do.
I used to love Color Splash. David is SO talented, but the designs get more & more expensive as time goes on. Unrealistic for the average homeowner.
Lastly, are you listening HGTV? WE WANT YOU TO GIVE SPARKLE JOSH HIS OWN SHOW! Don't lose your Sparkle, Josh...pray for you often...we love you and Jesus does, too :-)
Posted by Nancy – July 29, 2008 1:41 AM
Yep, has to be Matt. The white couch and tiny dining table/s with that huge family of KIDS would not make me happy. I think the family will have to make some changes once the "shine" wears off.

That was a great show! It was about time, especially after last year with Kim winning. We think that a Matt & Jen show would really get the ratings up there. I know that there would be a large following for their show. We voted for Matt, we felt that overall he did the best job and listened to carefully to all their wants. But Jen did a great job also, but the livingroom couch-ick! and the seating for only 6 in the dinning room was a mistake, they asked for 8-10.

CO-HOSTS! ITS THE ONLY SOLUTION, THEY ARE PERFECT

I really would like to see both Jennifer and Matt in a show together. I believe they could both give so much for a wonderful show, one that I would tune in for. If I had to just pick one of them it would be Jennifer. I would pick her not only on her design but I love to hear her laugh and reach the people she works with. But let see them both win.
Posted by JaNeille – July 29, 2008 1:17 AM
Love them both. Jen has a great smile. But, Matt gets my vote. He is cool under pressure, really listens to the clients and delivers. His dining room was amazing, as was Jen's kitchen. I love how Matt gives God the glory, saying repeatedly he is "blessed." That takes courage on national TV. David in season 1 did the same.
Go Matt.

Co-Hosts. Why would you not?
Posted by cure diabetes – July 29, 2008 1:13 AM
I hope HGTV has someone reading this blog because so many feel the same way I do...there should be a Matt and Jennifer show! They have different and very important strengths and would compliment each other in their own show. Also, like everyone else...I'd love to see Sparkle Josh with his own show. I do love Kim Myles show, she's very down to earth and has do-able ideas and I voted for her. But Sparkle... somehow you just put the joy in life. I cried like a baby when you went home.
Posted by Carol R – July 29, 2008 12:54 AM
I COMPLETELY agree that Jen and Matt would be fabulous co-hosts for a new show! I would love to see that happen.
And I think Kim Myles from last season is doing a super job! I love all her designs this season so far. I don't think she's out of her league at all. She is obviously researching formal design on her own as she goes along. She has really become a super designer since the first episode of Season 2. Way to go Kim!!
David rocks as well and I know this season's winner will also. Thanks for such a great show HGTV!
Posted by Melissa – July 29, 2008 12:54 AM
Both are good designers, but Jen really connects with the camera and her clients. She's approachable and real. I just don't get that genuine feeling from Matt. His design choices seem cold and museum-like. I don't think the regular person on HGTV can relate to that kind of design work. Jen adds personality and real life living details to her work. She's been consistantly pleasant and warm. I haven't felt that from Matt. I just think he has a bit of a "fake" quality about him. Jen gets my vote!
