"Please DO stop the music"! I am so sorry, but even though I LOVE to watch House Hunters, the music is just awful. The constant sound of the percussions, coupled with the dreadful bird chirping sounds in the last episode i watched, completely stressed me out. And it's like that with every episode. I feel like I've stepped into a tech-no club hidden away in some warehouse in the Mission District of San Francisco.I've even had to mute the TV and turn on the Closed Captioning function just to get through it. Please consider Jazz or Lite Rock with the next episode. I'll continue watching inspite of it all! Love it!

I have watched design star since its first show. I have to say that I could not vote for just one of them. There was a partnership that should not have been missed between Jen and Matt.
Their ideas and style were similiar, their personalities were great, and I loved the fact they respected each other. I would love to see the two of them together. Room by Room's duo had a wonderful thing going. Why not put Jen and Matt? I believe their show would do well.

This season was all about "raising the bar". I really did NOT see that. Individual rooms competition, I think Jenn was #1 there. Matt did an excellent job with the first challenge of the bedroom. I voted for Matt, but Jenn won and that is great too. For me it was a toss up any way. Hope next season is better.

Posted by Nancy – August 9, 2008 2:09 PM

I agree that Matt and Jen should have a show together. I voted equally for both of them! I would like to see more different shows instead of so much House Hunters etc. I admire HGTV for trying to get the real estate going again, but I would like to see more quilting/sewing shows.Like Room by Room, Simply Quilts etc. Also I was very dissapointed with Design Star this season. I hope there are more "mature" contestants next time. not older but less childish. I love Kim, and David's shows. They are very talented and have great personalities. I think you could lose Cynthia and put someone with more personality in her place.

Posted by Sharon – August 7, 2008 10:28 PM

I agree with so many of the other folks who have written, HGTV should put Matt and Jennifer together in a show. They were both awesome, and like so many others, I could not vote ~ I loved them both!! Also Kim's designs are always beautiful but David is my man; I love his designs and personality; I know you must have loved that mega SPARKLE chandelier of Matt's Josh! HGTV ROCKS!!

Posted by Jo B – August 7, 2008 9:41 AM

Like so many above, I liked both Matt & Jen, but voted for Matt because he had such innovative ideas- the bed & the cabinet to hide his mom's firing oven. Jen seemed busy painting all the time - I like the wall art she dies, but get furniture in the color you want, not waste time painting it, unless you're being green & reusing an old piece. I still think viewers should get to choose prior to being down to the last 2 finalists. I also love David's show & will watch Jen's, but would have LOVED to see a show with Sparkle & Will - now that was THE team of all the DS seasons. Matt, you are the MOST gracious person. Good luck in your future, would have loved to see you on HGTV nest season.

Posted by Kat – August 6, 2008 10:08 PM

What a pleasure to have two finalist who were equally deserving of the prize. Both Matt and Jenn are gracious, personable and genuine. They both demonstrated immense humility and superior talent. I would have been happy with either one as a winner. Sometimes it would be nice to see everyone win. In this case they both deserved it. Best of luck to both of you in the inevitably bright futures that I am certain you will both have.

Posted by Stefenos – August 5, 2008 10:55 PM

All the shows leading up to the final show were very exciting. Just couldn't miss any of them!
Matt and Jen were truly the best of the contestents. It was so hard to choose one over the other but, I feel, the best one did win. As far as I am concerned, David Bromstad rocks! Kim Myles is a little too far out for me. I wish Vern Yip would use less candles in his designs. Good grief, a wall of candles is too much. He is going to burn down somebody's home one of these days.

Posted by Bernice Chandler – August 5, 2008 9:41 PM

That really sucked when HGTV edited out the scene when you gave Trish that necklace! I did get to see it on the HGTV page. I also enjoyed seeing you as a judge. HGTV give Josh a show! We LOVE him!

Posted by Mary – August 5, 2008 1:47 AM

Where was Mikey V last night? He was the only finalist not on the finale.

Posted by Jo – August 4, 2008 8:07 PM

I wished them both good luck, Jenn and Matt both did a great job through out the show. I also enjoyed Trish and Mikey V's idea choices as well, not to mention Mikey V's body, lol.
Though I liked both I liked Matt's final design better than Jenn's. I didn't like the fire place or the living room placement. The tv stand was way to low, the colors were way to dark for the small area and the dinning room was smack dab right next to the couch. I liked everything Matt did with arrangement, to color, to hosting and over all personality and smile.

Posted by Renee – August 4, 2008 6:29 AM

I'm stuck in a time warp. I voted for Sparkle Josh who I've enjoyed so much seeing again, just would really like to shop with Sparkle Josh some more, I'll miss you.
I just couldn't vote for either one although I liked Matt's point of view on things as it was often out of the box.
Bye Sparkle Josh I sure hope we get the pleasure of your company again. The biggest mistake they did last year was removing you when it was so obvious you had a huge fan base.

Posted by Sandy – August 3, 2008 10:05 AM

I agree with a lot of the comments above. I truly believe that HGTV should choose BOTH Matt and Jen to be CO-HOSTS of a show. They do get along well together and have complimentary skills. They also have a lot of respect for each other. They would make perfect co-hosts.

Posted by Linda Fischer – August 2, 2008 11:38 PM

I love both! I like the ideas put forth about using both designers in one show. HGTV needs to get with the program. They always seem to be a bit behind with the time in their programming (hence cancelling Simply Quilts during the peak of quilt interest and putting so many shows on about selling houses during the realty crisis). It will be interesting to see who wins!

Posted by Mickie – August 2, 2008 9:46 PM

I have read the comments already posted & I would have a hard time decidung between Jen and Matt. I think they both have opposing strong points in their designs. Matt is the tool man and Jen is the detail woman. I have to agree with many who said that a tie between the two would be the best. I watch HGTV ALL of the time & I think it's time for a show with two designers. Both Jen & Matt have proven that they can be team players. A show with both of them would amount to the "Dynamic Duo" of interior design. If they had a show together I would give up CSI to watch!!!

Posted by tina lapointe – August 2, 2008 9:05 PM

My vote went to Matt. They are both talented, but Matt is an actual designer who can come up with fresh, new solutions to problems. I think Jen is a decorator who does some pretty wall murals, faux painting and the like. I also like Matt's sincerity and warmth as a host. I find Jen's personality and voice to be a bit grating.

Posted by labound – August 2, 2008 4:21 PM

If your voting is based only on the last challenge, I can understand wanting to make both Jen and Matt co-winners. I think Jen concentrated on the kitchen because she was inexperienced, and it was a huge success. Matt's best design choice all season was the chandelier. Has everyone forgotten the individual room challenge, when Matt's Thai temple didn't happen? I think Matt is very intelligent and made some calculated choices to appear pleasing to voters, but Jen is clearly the real designer and deserves to win Design Star.

Posted by Wilma – August 2, 2008 12:40 PM

I really want Jen to win but her designs are more my style. However, after reading all of the comments I LOVE the idea of Jen and Matt together! That would be DesignStar at it's best! The comradery that Matt showed on the last episode was wonderful. I think they could come up with some of the best rooms on HGTV. Please have a tie!!!!

Posted by Lisa – August 1, 2008 11:38 PM

Sparkle, I live in Memphis, but we're buying an older home (1969) on a gorgeous golf course lot in a lake retirement community in Arkansas (only 6 hours from Nashville). It needs a lot of work. If I treat you to the catfish buffet and let you ride my jet ski, will you come over for a weekend and give me a little advice? I'm not sure how I should hang the crystals on the stone fireplace. (p.s. I'm only half kidding...I LOVE your style!)

Posted by Reba – August 1, 2008 8:12 PM

Am I the only person in the universe who is highly disappointed by this season????????????????? First, it has been exceptionally short, and we didn't see much individual work by the designers. I know you have to be able to get along w/ other people, but where were the incredible, creative rooms like David's final room and the crazy brown rug he had in an earlier
episode? Where was a final amazing suite by Kim Myles or that insane surfer guy's rooms? Geez!! Tell me the judges were joking when they said this was the best year yet! Especially after saying on almost all the earlier challenges how bad the designs were. Huuuhhh??!! save me from the looney bin, please! I couldn't decide and didn't vote because I didn't think either one was a solid , exciting designer- great on camera, lovely people, but sadly, I couldn't have cared less.

Posted by Jackie Adie – August 1, 2008 8:10 PM

They BOTH should be awarded/recognized as a winning team. What a break-away concept- an absolute tie.

They truly complement each other.

Posted by elissa feldmeyer – August 1, 2008 6:25 PM

Both are great, Jenn has it all Hosting, talent personality and great looks the camera loves her.

Good luck to both, I wish both could win!!!!

Posted by Rachel – August 1, 2008 4:50 PM

I'm with the folks who said they would love to see these two PAIRED on a show. That's the first thing I thought of after the final I'd love to watch them both as team - as we did in the final. Not sure what the format could be to showcase both their styles (cause don't think its' fair to ask them to combine them), but they both bring a fresh new perspective into the designs offering on HGTV..I'd hate to lose either one.

Posted by carolf – August 1, 2008 3:08 PM

Can't we have a tie? They would both be terrific on one show. Both have a superb eye for design, Jen is excellent with color and Matt with building skills, together they would totally rock bringing the yin and yang to a space.

Posted by Saphyra – August 1, 2008 3:07 PM

Matt and Jenn - as everyone says - hard choice. From day one I felt the judges were way too complimentary about Trish's presentation skills and not complimentary enough about Matt's. His presentation skills were really good from the beginning. I almost felt as if Trish was being groomed to be the next star. It was quite a surprise when she had her show cancelled. But here we are with Jenn and Matt and I can tell you they were my favorites from the beginning and I am loathe to choose just one. BTW I LOVE Kim Myles show - I think she comes up with fabulous designs each and every week. And David's show - well how can you not love David?

Posted by Patrice – August 1, 2008 2:29 PM

Quote: From the beginning I loved being 'surprised' by Matt's creativity. He ALWAYS brought in an original idea. It was a delight to see what different approach he could take. I also felt that his many commentaries throughout the weeks were very informative, articulate and professional with a pleasant voice tone. Did HGTV love him or what? It seems we usually got Matt's take on whatever was happening and it was positive, spot on and clear. I also felt that his 'teamplayer' personality showed throughout the weeks, not just on the last episode as he always made whomever he worked with 'look as good as possible' and showed terrific leadership in the process. Matt showed a unique design style which can be appreciated by many. It was far reaching, more complex and multi-dimensional- never simple.
YES YES YES!!!!! MATT IS AWESOME!!!!!! A TRUE VISIONARY AND INNOVATIVE DESIGNER!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Joy – August 1, 2008 9:24 AM

I think that Jen was brilliant in her use of color and design. Matt had a beautiful perspective.... but I gotta tell you. It was the red cabinets that took me OVER THE EDGE!!! So Jen gets my vote. These people needed a custom look that would remind them everytime that they walk in their house that the whole nation watched as something special happened to them. Both Matt and Jen deserve to be in the final two but it is Jen's design and painting that has won my vote. I love the way this girl thinks.

Posted by Chloe West – August 1, 2008 8:30 AM

I have to "ditto" all of what Rose said.

Posted by Maria – August 1, 2008 1:39 AM

I couldn't even vote, they were both so good. The last 2 years were easy to choose, this year it is too hard to choose. Why couldn't HGTV have its own version of friends? Matt, Jen, Trish, Mikey V and Sparkle Josh?

Posted by Judy – August 1, 2008 1:25 AM

I like both Matt and Jen's personalities, but given a show, Matt is far more likely to come up with intriguing and atypical designs. Matt was my favorite from the first show because he seemed like the only person who is truly a professional designer and not just a decorator. I am appalled by the constant refrain from the judges that "this was the most impressive group." The first season was clearly the best. While I am not in love with David's show, he is by far the most talented and polished designer of all three seasons. And Alice was more traditional, but also very good and professional. Kim is great at coming up with good "craft" solutions, but so am I and I wouldn't consider myself a designer. I am not fond of her show.

Posted by Patti – July 31, 2008 10:30 PM

I would live to see a show with BOTH of them, I think they would work well together!

Posted by Gena – July 31, 2008 4:36 PM

Matt and Jennifer are great, good in front of the camera, hope the two of them host a show. Love all the ideas I get from the shows that are on, Candice is a miracle worker.
Would like more of the showing when a floor, etc., is being done, like a diy. I would like to see less body parts on some of the hosts.

Posted by Irene – July 31, 2008 4:13 PM

I had no idea that my thoughts of a Jen and Matt show would be shared by so many. They do have very compatible personas, and an obvious respect and affection for each other. Why not let them pool their skill sets -- design, carpentry, artistry, empathy for their clients -- into one excellent show? As for you naysayers, I like both David and Kim's shows, as well as shows like Design on a Dime, which are a more realistic goal for our modest little suburban world.
Sparkle Josh, you just keep charming us all. Hope to see and hear from you more!

Posted by Rose – July 31, 2008 4:03 PM

Matt could design, MikeyV as carpenter, Michael can shop, and Sparkle can host.

title of show...."TEAM G_A_Y"

btw. that's what Michael and Matt were called on After Elton, when details about MikeyV surfaced he was added.

Posted by mark – July 31, 2008 2:19 PM

Carolyn already said it: "I think it would be fair to both Matt and Jen for the brilliant and unfaltering efforts they have demonstrated throughout this long and ardous process. Choosing either one is thinking within "the box." One of the key elements of successful and visionary design is to be innovative, to dare to think outside of "the box," and to identify and establish new trends, which appeal to a universal audience--and which will eventually become authentic and time-transcending "classics." This is clearly the historical moment to go beyond the "expected," to be creative, to demonstrate a cutting edge "design vision," and to provide these two gifted designers with the opportunity of a lifetime, which they have both earned and deserve."

I was torn, could not vote for one over the othere, but together, they could be absolute dynamite!

Posted by Caryn Hutchinson – July 31, 2008 12:55 PM

I would be ok wit both winning but in reality i am and have been pulling for matt along only because of what i have seen him do on the show and know that inside of him there is the next design star just waiting to get out.. so i hope that matt wins the whole thing

Posted by Chuck Mason – July 31, 2008 12:13 PM

i voted for jen beacuse i really like how she's open and full of life and it would break my heart to see her lose.. beacuse she worked so hard

Posted by shay – July 31, 2008 10:48 AM

I loved Jenn's designs. Matt's designs were awesome too but I wouldn't watch Matt. He seems superficial and too"cheerleady". Love Sparkle Josh and this format. Josh has made me an HGTV website fan!

Posted by Karla Saroch – July 31, 2008 8:27 AM

Matt is great! Besides HGTV doesn't have a minimalist design show yet, do they? and even though its not my choice of styles, I think it would add variety to its lineup. He knows how to work it out without getting crazy stressed. Jenn's sweet and her designs are nice too. A favorite of mine is Mikey V., wish we could have seen another individual design of his, to see what he can really do. Mikey has got some skills!

Posted by Crys – July 31, 2008 5:01 AM

i cant really say who i would vote for matt has certain qualities that i like and so does jen but the thing that is getting me is that jen had designed a smaller space that wasnt as big as matt's but i am totaly like i dont know who to vote for ughhhhhhhhhhhh they both are sooooooooooo talented and great designers. im just not gonna vote cause i dont know who too vote for

Posted by Taylor – July 31, 2008 2:38 AM

Hats of to all of you for another great competition!
I enjoyed Sparkles' commentary! He was great last season and would make a nice addition to any show you could dream up! I like the two competition
finalists! Both are talented--and compatable(hint)!
Although I cast my vote for Matt, I really liked the
red cabinets--what a risk--and they turned out great!
I felt both Matt and Jen listened to the homeowner and met their challenges. The large sectional, while looking nice in the final showing, created real issues for Jen. I think the carpenter was an
issue for her as well. However I felt you both did a Good job!!! You both were great! Matt--well the light fixture was awesome--I too thought of Sparkle when I saw it! Matt worked well with people assigned to help him, and did a fantastic job with the final look!
As for Kims'new show, I am disappointed, but it is
getting better as she matures into the position!
I look forward to the designer competition coming up! Thanks!

We love the idea of a Matt and Jen show. They work well together and are both very down to earth. It would be awseome!

Posted by sue – July 31, 2008 1:49 AM

I think both Matt and Jen are extremely talented. It would constitute an existential dilemma to choose one over the other. Thus, my decision is to choose both. I think it would be quite a success to have a design show featuring a collaborative effort between Jen and Matt. Matt is an accomplished carpenter and Jen is a very creative artist. Matt is highly innovative and resourceful. Jen has an excellent command of color and style. A female/male team would appeal to many viewers. Jen's red kitchen cabinets, combined with stainless steel appliances made a striking visual impression. Matt's dining room and magnificent chandelier made a stunning design statement. Both Matt and Jen are very warm, communicative individuals, who possess outstanding relational skills and excellent hosting ability. Both are kind, sensitive and humanistic, and project sweet and caring personalities. They are both adorable and easy to relate to, and they both disclose the ability to connect with viewers on television. In addition, they are highly empathic, sensitive to, and perceptive of their clients' needs. Matt's gesture of choosing Trish so that Micky V could help Jen with his carpentry skills was moving and superb. It was also sensitive to the feelings of, and validating of his colleagues, Trish and Micky V. He is a true gentleman and a natural diplomat. I think that combining both of their skills into one show would constitute a definite success for HGTV. In addition, I think it would be fair to both Matt and Jen for the brilliant and unfaltering efforts they have demonstrated throughout this long and ardous process. Choosing either one is thinking within "the box." One of the key elements of successful and visionary design is to be innovative, to dare to think outside of "the box," and to identify and establish new trends, which appeal to a universal audience--and which will eventually become authentic and time-transcending "classics." This is clearly the historical moment to go beyond the "expected," to be creative, to demonstrate a cutting edge "design vision," and to provide these two gifted designers with the opportunity of a lifetime, which they have both earned and deserve. From a humanistic perspective, this would be just and fair. From a commercial and marketing perspective, it would provide great returns for HGTV, with an almost guaranteed significant increase in viewers. It is rare to find two people whose "platonic" chemistry and ability to relate to each other is excellent. Don't pass up on this unique opportunity. Make it a Jen and Matt show!

Posted by Carilyn Guedes – July 31, 2008 1:31 AM

Too tough too choose! Letting either Matt or Jen go is ridiculous. I like a lot of the suggestions made here.

I wonder what's happening at HGTV. Why the yearly drive for more "design stars"? Particularly since HGTV has not shown much dedication to program development for the last 2 designer stars. Frankly I'm bored with both David and Kim. I think they are so personable but am no longer interested because they don't have compelling premises for their shows. It's not enough to decorate a home just because somebody wants them to do it. HGTV needs to provide program support for these 2 great people.

So here we are again watching them throw away good people like Design Star thinks they're American Idol. HGTV should decide whether it wants to be a creative venue with projects that attract long term fans or a reality tv drama fueled by the humiliating structure of the judging and the speed driven schedule that results in hysterical drama.

Now we going to have the design showdown with the familiar designers. I want the judges to be all the "loser" designers from all the past seasons. Can't WAIT to see if Sparkle Josh will cowboy up with his comments for this fiasco. And I hope we get to vote too!

Posted by Judy – July 30, 2008 11:55 PM

I voted for Jen because i love her deigsn and quite frankly a three year old could do better than all of matt's designs. I hope Jen wins. She is such a great desiner. I Think that mikey v. or else trish should have been the top 2 instead of matt (like eighther jen/trish or jen/mikey v.
i think that they were better than matt

Posted by Andrea – July 30, 2008 11:18 PM

I too think both should get a show or else be co-hosts. I think they work great together but would also love to see HGTV give them each a show. I would surely watch. I also love the chemistry between the final 4.
Matt and Jennifer are so genuine and I love their personalities - they compliment each other very well and I love seeing how they are truly happy for each other and the work they have done and how grateful they are. Great people!

Posted by Lynn – July 30, 2008 9:42 PM

I've followed all 3 seasons - love David. He's cute, endearing and enthusiastic - believeable. I really enjoyed both Jen and Matt and I don't favor one over the other. Chivalry still lives as he demonstrated in the final show. They both come across as being talented, genuine people who want the best they can give with what they have to work with. I'm on the side of the people who said a 'duo' show would be great - neither is a loser and I don't want either one to lose, but both to WIN!!!

Posted by L Hightower – July 30, 2008 9:05 PM

I AM VOTING FOR MATT , I LOVED HIS WORK AND DESIGN
PLUS YOU NEVER SAW HIM GET UPSET LIKE SOME OF THE OTHERS . JEN'S WAS GOOD BUT THOUGHT THAT WHITE COUCH WITH CHILDREN WAS NOT THE RIGHT THING , PLUS THE SIZE OF IT WAS A LITTLE TOOOO MUCH . SHE COULD HARDLY GET IT IN THE ROOM AND ONLY LEFT ONE WAY TO GET IN AND SIT DOWN . I UNDERSTAND SHE WANTED A LARGE SOFA THAT WOULD BENFIT A BIG FAMILY BUT THAT WAS JUST TOOOO MUCH OF ONE BIG THING . I DID LOVE HER RED CABINETS !!
BUT ALL AROUND I LIKE MATT FOR OUR NEXT DESIGN STAR --- WOULD BE NICE IF BOTH WON AND HAVE A DOUBLE HITTER .
I LOVE HGN AND ONLY WATCH THAT CHANNEL MOST OF THE TIME WITH ALL THE DESIGN STARS WHICH EACH HAVE SO MUCH TO OFFER .
SPARKLE JOSH WAS GOOD SEEING YOU --- HOPE TO SEE MORE .
THANKS HGN FOR ANOTHER DESIGN STAR SEASON !!
GERRI FROM TEXAS

I think Matt and Jen should do a show together. They are both great designers, work well together, get along with everybody and compliment each other. HGTV could have a real winner with this duo.

Posted by Kira – July 30, 2008 7:47 PM

Love your comments, Sparkle Josh!! "Sparkle is the new black" - hahaha! Your show would definitely be KILLER - and talk about a "fresh look" for HGTV. We all LOVE you, including my husband and our young son...
I am so glad Design Star went to New Orleans, the "forgotten city." It was thrilling to see the amazing transformations for such wonderful families - I cannot remember every CRYING during an HGTV show, but I did after this one! I hope Matt wins, and voted for him, but both designers are truly remarkable and talented.

Posted by Karen Mac – July 30, 2008 6:51 PM

Jen and Matt, Matt and Jen. Dual winners. They are both great. I love their designs.
I love them both, It would be great if they could cohost. I loved both of their personalities. I can't choose one I love them both. Please vote them a duo. I would love for then to redo my whole house.
Good Luck Matt and Jen

Posted by Helen Hunt – July 30, 2008 6:42 PM

I hope that Jen is the winner of this years 'Design Start', and I think that they should have show with Jen's husband as her co-star. After all they've been a team for 10 years, and HGTV has never presented a Husband/Wife team, it think that it would be a great show!!

Posted by Kathie – July 30, 2008 4:42 PM

I vote for Matt. I love David's show and would love to have a piece of his art work, its great. I also like kim and and her show, the are just two different views of designers and are great.Home and Garden is my favorite station.

Posted by sharon – July 30, 2008 2:52 PM

I think that both the finalists are talented, but I love Jenn as a person. She seems sweet and down to earth. And by the way, could you people stop bashing Kim!!! I don't like David's designs--most times they look like movie sets, but I realize that different people have different tastes. You are not going to like everyone's style! Play nice.

Posted by Blair – July 30, 2008 2:10 PM

Mat and Jen were great, but both got my vote. To all you people that want Josh back give it up he didn't win. Everyone should stop being so racist about Kim she's great, her designs are out of the box you all don't even have a clue. To the lady that talks about to expensive for me all of their designs cost or maybe you should watch design on a dime and stop dreaming.

Posted by Deja – July 30, 2008 2:06 PM

I think that HGTV should use both Matt and Jenn. But I also liked Trish and Mikey V. I was so glad when Tracey was voted off. She had trouble getting along with the others. Matt and Jenn should both become design stars. I voted for Kim last year but I hate her show. Miles of Style is boring. She comes across as fake and trying to pretend that she has a personality. I've tried to watch her show but it doesn't hold my attention because it is so dull. I love to watch David in Color Splash. His natural personality shines through in every episode.

Posted by Deidre – July 30, 2008 1:57 PM

Tough choice again this year!
I chose Matt, I think his designs are very original and have a longer life as Interior Designs, Jennifer's wall art and furniture painting has a "life" or "era" attached to it. Love both of their personalities and designs they showed on Design Star. I vote duo "Design Star" this year.

Posted by Jan b – July 30, 2008 1:48 PM

I really like both Jen and Matt. That would be great if they could be co-hosts because they are equally talented and each could bring a lot to a design show.

My favorite designer on HGTV is Candice Olsen. She is so creative and delivers winning rooms each and every time. I'd give anything to have her come to my house and work her magic with my kitchen and dining room!

Good luck Jen and Matt.

Posted by Shari – July 30, 2008 12:32 PM

I think the chemistry between Jen, Matt & Mickey V is pure gold. It is so hard to manufacture chemistry like that. It would be so great if you could find a way to use them together!

Posted by Deb – July 30, 2008 12:17 PM

This challenge has been difficult to make a decision on because I like both Jen and Matt. So I have go to decide which one of those houses I would prefer to live in after the design. I chose Jen's design. It spoke to my since of Romance more than Matt's.

Posted by Theresa Ross – July 30, 2008 12:17 PM

When Tiger Woods plays Phil Mickelson at golf, do they call it a tie at the end to make the viewer feel good? This is a contest, and may the best man win. I don't watch "Regis and Kelly", and frankly, I tuned in to see who would win, not to call it a tie.

Posted by Tracey – July 30, 2008 11:53 AM

To go through all of the audtitioning, challenges, judging, and then end up co-hosting with another contestant? I really don't think either of the two would like that. They both worked very hard to get to this point, so I hope HGTV does not make them co-hosts. I'm sure once the votes are counted there will be a clear winner that deserves the rights to his/her own show. That's what competitions are about. Good luck to both Matt and Jen.

OH PLEASE!!!let them tie..I believe they are both perfect..I hope HGTV is wise enough not to let either of them go.What ashow they coould put on working together!!!

Posted by marian – July 30, 2008 10:52 AM

I voted for Matt. I liked both Jen and Matt, very talented but at the end for me Matt's design was better. It was a very tough decision. Jen should have the opportunity to co-host a show, she is great too! .

Posted by Nilsa – July 30, 2008 10:09 AM

Add me to the crowd voting for dual winners. And add me to the crowd that LOVES David Bromstad. Now, admittedly there are more comments that I have NOT read than ones that I have read (too many to read them all) but I am amazed that I have not seen anyone address the chemistry between Mikey V. and Trish. Did anyone besides my husband and I notice that? It seemed ironic that she had her wedding ring cut off while leaning on Mikey V!!!! There were a lot of little things in several of the episodes that made it appear something was going on between those two.

Posted by Laura – July 30, 2008 9:48 AM

Jen was very creative with her use of paint. I loved the art she did on the walls. However, I think HGTV needs a talent like Matt. His creative carpentry is refreshing and they don't have anything like him on tv. Either one would be good a choice. Wasn't so thrilled with Kim's show. She had some really strange designs.

Posted by Patti – July 30, 2008 9:35 AM

I think we should start a campaign letting HDTV know that the overall majority wants a show hosted by both Matt and Jenn. It's something different than any of the shows they presently offer and would offer viewers variety. We could call it "Design Times Two" or "Double Take".... or they could have a contest for the best title! Let's let HDTV know that we won't watch another design show hosted by just one person. We want co-hosts! It's worked for Regis and Kelly for years! We want co-hosts! We want co-hosts! We want co-hosts!

Posted by Betty – July 30, 2008 8:53 AM

I love the idea of Matt & Jen co-hosting a show. It's not fair to have to choose between the two. Mikey V is fabulous too! Please include all 3 of them on TV shows!!

Posted by Patt – July 30, 2008 8:22 AM

What a tough decision. Both of the finalist were soooo good, it was a very difficult choice. I think the judges made a good choice with Jen & Matt as the two finalists. They seemed to be the strongest of all of them this season, although I thought Trish and Mikey V. both did a commendable job during this period and I was happy to see them brought back to help. Kudos to Matt for letting Jen have Mikey V.'s help for doing the kitchen. I think that showed a lot of consideration and thoughtfulness. Frankly, I won't be disappointed no matter who wins. I think they both have what it takes to host a show.

Posted by Cheryl – July 30, 2008 5:18 AM

All I watch is HGTV. David and Candice are my favorites, I do not like "hidden potencial" at all. My favorite was Mikey V, let him team up with Jen, my second choice, better still
have all three work togather, or alternating, then we would not have to see so many re runs. What ever happened to Kenneth Brown, I liked his show and style also? When will Candice do homes in the USA? Thanks for Sparkle Josh, his touch was great, keep him in the loop.
Thanks, cause I'm hooked on HGTV and looking forward to the Summer Sunday Challange.

Add me to the list of people who feel BOTH Matt and Jennifer should win and co-host. I think they would make a terrific duo.

I'm also one who loves David Bromstad - an extremely talented young man - but not impressed with last year's winner. I hope David's show continues forever!

Good luck to Matt and Jennifer - may they both win! Each has talent to offer.

Posted by ShipMaven – July 30, 2008 1:52 AM

I love both Matt and Jen's designs, and think they would do well in a show together! Thank goodness that Trish lady wasn't in the top two.... she acted like a two year old that first episode, and can't believe how long the judges kept her on--- guest it was for the ratings 'cause it can't be the designs!! I love Jen's energy and Matt's thinking outside the box. Both are soooo very creative make them a winning combination! Season 1 was fabulous, and I love David's show and his artwork is to die for. Can't stand Kim's...Her designs are NOT miles of styles, and the wrong person won that season! I have to say, this season's top two are 300% better than last season's winner, and both deserve to win!

Posted by Cat – July 30, 2008 1:49 AM

I am voting for Matt. Who he is comes across has genuine - honest, compassionate, a true ingrained passion for what he does. I want to see more of what he has to offer. He is someone I would tune in to watch;I have always watched David's show;sadly as sweet and infectious as Kim is - I have only seen two of her episodes.

Hi sparkle Josh. It was so good to see you again on HGTV. I thought from the very beginning that you would have won your own show. But it is good to see that you are a very good sport about it all and maybe you can continue the guest cameos to keep giving your perspective.I like Jennifer alot, but I thinnk Matt should win because he is very passionate and natural in his approach.Even in the final challenge he gave to Jennifer so she could have his carpenter first because she had never done a kitchen.Matt rocks, but so does sparkle Josh!!

Posted by Lonnie – July 30, 2008 12:09 AM

MATT!!!! Not only is he a great designer, he listens to the client, is very enthusiastic, and doesn't fold under pressure. I couldn't believe that after he so graciously let Jen have Mikey V. on the last challenge, Jen's comment was something like "now you'll get all the votes" Wow, kick a gift horse in the mouth. My vote is for Matt.

Posted by Susan – July 30, 2008 12:00 AM

Jen is good, and she's very personable, but Matt should win. He has come up with some fantastic ideas (the loft bed, the mannequin-to-flower sculpture, the moving TV wall to hide the kiln)! Also, I read another person's comment that Mikey V. should be the carpenter--I think that's an excellent idea! Matt & Mikey V. seem to like each other and get along great, and I think they would make a super show together! (Plus, Mikey V. needs to get off the streets before he gets shot or hurt--he's too cute to be a police officer!) Mikey V. needs to be on TV and would make a great sidekick to Matt!
Go, Matt!!!!!!!!!!!!

I voted for Jen,more creative than Matt.

Sparkle Josh's comments are right on the nose.
My thoughts exactly! I hope to see more of Sparkle Josh on this website!

Posted by Cindy G – July 29, 2008 11:39 PM

Sparkle Josh is so fantabulously sparkalicious. Wish HGTV would find something for him to host. Really liked Jen's clever spin. Matt gets sparkle kudos for that lamp. Jenn however really pulls it off and I'd like to see Trish team up with them. Mikey worked so wonderfully too. I like how she took everything that was weird from the previous design challenge and really took it to the next level. Think that Jenn and Matt could pair up together and work wonders.

Posted by Angie – July 29, 2008 11:37 PM

Sparkle Josh! YOU should have your own show on HGTV!
I voted for Matt, he is just good and is so enthusiastic on camera.
Jen is good also, but white furniture with children? Eventually those people will curse her name!

Posted by Jeanne – July 29, 2008 10:05 PM

There is an out cry for Matt and Jen to do a show together. Which I posted a message on Sunday night saying the same thing. I also was thrilled to see Trish and Mikey V come back to help. To get to the point... I just read a message that stated that Mikey V should be included as an excellent carpenter! I second that. That would be a great HGTV show!!!!

Posted by Maggie_H – July 29, 2008 9:30 PM

I LOVE Sparkle Josh! He is such a looker and I wish I was his type! But, alas.....

Posted by Jeanne – July 29, 2008 9:26 PM

I'm voting for both Jen and Matt. I have to admit I am somewhat biased because I live in the same metropolitan area (go Kansas City!!) as Jen, but I truly do agree with the consensus that the producers need to "break the rules" and somehow come up with a way to name them co-Design Stars. Of all of the seasons it seemed to me that this season's final four (Trish and Mikey V. rounding out the top 4) really, genuinely liked each other so creating a show with Jen and Matt together would be great!! Maybe the rules won't allow for two "winners", but HGTV needs to listen to their loyal viewers and figure out a way to give Jen and Matt a show together or two separate shows.

Posted by Julie – July 29, 2008 9:22 PM

Sparkle, you need to have your own show! Your awesom. Maybe you and Clive could do a 1-2 punch for the Design Star hosting next season. I absolutely loved the Final Four. I think HGTV could make big $$$ by coupling them together or letting them have their own shows. In the end, I voted for Jen, I loved her style, but thought Matt was also a great contender.

Posted by Vicky – July 29, 2008 9:16 PM

I watch HGTV all the time. I think for the first time, they should have Jen & Matt co-host the show together. They are to good to pick one over the other.

Posted by Fran – July 29, 2008 8:47 PM

Although, Jen & Matt both have decent skill, I saw nothing extraordinary and unique about their designs. But if i had to choose i would choose Matt. His designs were better and he would be great to work with. As far as Kim's show, I really enjoy watching Kim's show and have never missed an episode. Keep in mind, Kim did not enter the contest with degrees in design or carpentry. I think she has true talent.

Posted by becky – July 29, 2008 7:08 PM

My wife hooked me on HGTV and Design Star last year. I don't have a designer's bone in my body and that's what she brings to me. HGTV and Design Star have made watching design exciting even for someone like me. Thanks Sparkle for having great personality and giving last year... well... Sparkle! Thanks to HGTV for bringing him back for this feature. We're with everyone else... we can't decide either! It'll be something silly that'll finally make the difference. The show together thing would really be a groundbreaker! Best of luck to all. Sometime HGTV needs to do a follow-up show on what has happened to the contestants of past Design Stars.

on the final challenge also his parents home
I had to wait until Monday night to watch the final

Posted by maryanne – July 29, 2008 6:52 PM

Love them both, I agree they should have a show together. I had to vote for Jennifer, I love her artist flare. Would love for her to do a room in our house.

Posted by Carol Sargent – July 29, 2008 6:52 PM

Well, I am so undecided that I plan to vote for Jen today and Matt tomorrow. Matt was so incredibly altruistic letting Jen use Mikey V first..as he knew that would be the most advantageous move for her and he could handle the bulk of his work himself the first day and leave it in the very capable hands of Mikey the next day while he was out shopping.

Jen- I was concerned about all of her angst over the sofa...not perhaps her shining moment, and, should she win, I hope tears will not become a constant.

I love how they both really throw themselves into their projects from day one. Matt had a few nights that were like "what the heck?" (the country of choice night) that were not his shining moments.

I have to commend them both as well, for the most part, being as tolerant of Tracee as they were. I think I would have blown a gasket, but they kept level heads and plunged ahead.

So...two votes it is.

David- still love his show. Kim's I have seen a few times, and though her designs may not fit my family's needs, her clients seem more than happy and that is what counts.

The only thing I wonder is - what was Cynthia thinking with that outfit in episode 8???? I suppose it is a fashion trend, but gladly one I won't be checking out. Might want to rethink that look.

Though I really appreciate Vern's talent, I found that the judges were overall not particularly kind, not always constructive, and not always interesting in their responses.

The night that the couch not fitting into the Opryland Suite...was a major disappointment. NO ONE said a word. Not one single word about the fact that there was a couch at first and that fitting it through the doorway was a problem. Felt bad for her but she could have at least said something! Clive knew, for Pete's sake! Of course I realize he couldn't say anything most likely, but sheesh! I also realize she just sort of missed it- but I am sure it has been done by even the most professional of designers ...just missed those "little glitches".
Hopefully her career will take off in spite of it all. Good luck.

Look forward to Sunday night's show.

I would vote for Jen, but a duo show would also be good. David is your best designer and how anyone can watch Kim Miles is beyond me. She is awful and I switch the channel whenever she comes on....she is sooooooo fake!
More of david, none of Kim and a duo host show to go. Yeah!

I think they both did a fabulous job. I want them both to win. Matt is the edgey one and thinks out of the box, but Jen gets the nod for always remembering the things that make a home a home. Together they would make a great team, each one has just the right amount of talent and ideas to compliment the other. Their personalities seem to mesh and the outcome of a combined show would be sensational. Now lets see if HGTV can break the mold and think outside the box. Lets call it the New Design Stars!!!

Posted by Mary Ann – July 29, 2008 5:35 PM

Matt and Jen performed at the top overall throughout the competitions, each bringing their own originality to designing. Matt is very creative and has expertise in multiple skills, is so compassionate and follows the client's wishes, has a unique eye for design, and delivers a thought-out finished product. Jen is a talented designer with impressive artistic abilities, her enthisiasm is infectuous and she would be a great tv personality. Matt too would make an awesome host because his caring and passion show thru. Both did awesome jobs in the final designs--loved both kitchens (what the clients wanted); loved both dining rooms--Jen's striped walls were terrific and Matt's room was excellent especially being enhanced by the lighting fixture; loved Matt's living room tho he could have used more accent pieces, and Jen's living room was matched to the number of people but NOT the white sofa where kids are present daily. CAN'T DECIDE WHICH ONE IS BEST --- I agree with others that BOTH SHOULD CO-HOST a show. Good luck to both!

Posted by J. Ann – July 29, 2008 5:32 PM

A network like HGTV can certainly afford to pay two people to have a show, so I like that idea. At the same time Matt and Jen have different design styles, so I don't know how they'd really work together. The HGTV shows each have a "hook" or point of view (one reason I think that Kim's show isn't working as well - a weak "hook" or "thing" as compared to David's Color focus).
I can see HGTV emphasizing Matt's kind of "architectural" and minimalist point of view in a show. He creates minimalist yet warm environments. Jen on the other hand has a joyful perspective. I could see a Joy of Jen kind of show where she takes drab rooms and makes them lively. Hmmm. Hard!
A general comment on the DesignStar show: I like Clive in his other shows, but I don't like him here. I hate the elimination segment. It's so stiff and dark. I don't understand why they do it like that. It's stupid and out of character with the rest of the show and the people involved. There can be other ways to do the elimination. I hope HGTV is reading these comments :-)
If you watch the Next Food TV Network Star Show (or whatever it's called), their elimination is kind of stupid too. Have you noticed that the judges are all sitting at a table that's too small for them? They're all crowded shoulder to shoulder - like FoodTV can't afford a larger table?! Top Chef does it better. There - I had my say.
Sparkle, I love your Elizabeth Montgomery hairdo!

Thank God they fixed the voting button. It was impossible to see.

Posted by Amy – July 29, 2008 4:42 PM

I like both of the finalists, but I think Matt has an edgier style that makes him unique. One thing that bothered me about Jen was her comment to Matt after he graciously allowed her Mikey's help on the first day. She said, "Now you're going to get more votes." I just feel that when someone does something out of non-competitive kindness, she should know enough not to respond with a comment that seems to question his motives. But the best of luck to them both!

Posted by Matt – July 29, 2008 4:26 PM

I'm joining the "loved them both" crowd.
I understand those who are not always crazy about Kim OR David's designs, but that's because they're working for different people.
I really disliked Tracee and couldn't believe the judges kept bringing her back. NO one would have watched a show with her as the "witchy" designer!
Mikey V was a talented designer, but not a commanding presence as a host. Sure wish you could use his talents. Maybe he'll have enough exposure to ensure his own business at home.

Oh, how hard it is to choose!! I still like Jen's designs a lot better than Matt's designs. I like Jen's happy personality and Matt has really come out of his shell!! Boy. I really like them both, but when it comes down to who would I really want to do one of my rooms, I'd have to choose Jen. I love this show! I can't wait for next year already, and Jen's season!! I still watch Color Splash. David is the best by far, even though I don't like some of his designs his art work is to die for! I've watched some of Kim's shows. Her show doesn't motivate me as much as David's. Look how far he's come with his hosting!! Jen is just a happy, bubbly person. I would really look forward to a show hosted by her.
Hurry up!! I can't wait!!

Posted by Linda Wilson – July 29, 2008 4:20 PM

I liked Jen's design better, (I am not a minimalist). I also think they would be great on a show together! I do think that David is the most talented and although I voted for Kim I now think that was a mistake. I hate her designs. I wish Todd would have won that one.

Posted by Janet – July 29, 2008 3:55 PM

Like many of the viewers, I agree that the new design show should have Matt and Jen as co-hosts. They seem to genuinely like each other and would work well together. I love Mikey V. so he should get the role of the carpenter. I am voting for both in the hopes that the producers read these comments and break the mold of "Design Star" to "Design Stars." Can't wait til Sunday night!!

Posted by Jolie – July 29, 2008 3:40 PM

HGTV should take the advice of viewers and have both Matt & Jenn, do a show together. I also agree with other statements made, that David Bromstad is the best ever, and Kim Myles is boring. Most of Kim's "designs" are just plain UGLY.

Posted by Sharon – July 29, 2008 3:39 PM

I think both of the design stars should have a show together. They work so good together and it would be a great show.

Lets have a brand new show....

Posted by Glenna O'Neil – July 29, 2008 3:28 PM

I CAN'T CHOOSE!!! I like them both. I voted for Matt first and then I voted for Jenn the next day. Decisions decisions!!! Too bad they both cant have a show. Sparkle Josh needs a show too.

Posted by Cynthia! – July 29, 2008 3:28 PM

Matt's the guy! I liked Jennifer well enough but feel like her projects were a different version of the same design each time. Matt had different outcomes and got better and better each time. I just didn't "feel" Jen's style and/or ability. I'm sorry but I disagree with comments about last years winner, Kim. I like Myles of Style!! I don't always like the outcome but I like her way of planning the room, explaining "how to" etc...and have liked more rooms than not. I also enjoy Color Splash and David but don't always like the outcomes either. I am voting for Matt and looking forward to seeing him on tv!

Tell HGTV to break the mold and have both Jen and Matt host a show together. Also have Mikey V as the carpenter. What a great show that would be!!!!

Posted by Jody – July 29, 2008 2:51 PM

SPARKLE JOSH, I want to see you have your own show. I thought you where crazy when I first saw you but you are AWSOME!!!! I could hang out w/you all day and know I will have a great time. Alright, as far as the two left, I love both of them and not even just for there designs, which is pretty good but for Jen being so fun loving and Matt for being so compassionate about it all, so I agree w/some other people on here that they would be great to have a show together they would bring great balance to the show and they seem to get along very well. This will be a flip of the coin for me this time so good luck to you both. Sparkle Josh, you rock baby!!!!!!!!!!!

Both Matt and Jennifer are very good at designing on their feet. One has a talent for artistic flair the other thinks out of the box. How about a show with both of them together.

Posted by Judy D – July 29, 2008 2:35 PM

I've got to give this one to Matt. His ideas lean towards creativity. From the first show he has proved to be innovative. The others have just made some good shopping choices. Look what he did in his parents home with hiding the kiln. That was brilliant. I feel that with Matt it won't be your stock paint the wall, buy a new couch show. He'll give us genuine ideas on how to handle different design style challenges in our homes.

Posted by Steph – July 29, 2008 2:22 PM

First, I don't understand the criticism of Jen for have a small table. She had two tables which is what is needed for that large family in that space. She didn't have a large separate dining room like Matt did. If the main table were bigger, it would have been too crowded (although I'll bet there is another leaf or two in the closet). However, the two tables are close enough so that everyone can be together. Hasn't anyone ever had a kid's table at Thanksgiving?

In addition, she chose glass and clear plastic for the small table that left the space open and made it seem larger. Someone wondered why she didn't use bar stools, but I think that would have, again, crowded the space. The table replaces the stools.

As for the stripes, I think she did that instead of a design on the walls because of Vern's criticism last week. I kind of liked it myself, but I would have liked one of her unique designs better. Vern's not voting this week, and I think he was wrong.

I do think the white couch was a mistake both in color and size. She should have taken better measurements and planned the layout before shopping. In fairness, Matt used white chairs in the dining room, but I don't know if kids were an issue in his house.

As for Matt, he received some criticism for the starkness of the kitchen, but "minimalist" is what the homeowner wanted. I don't think she would have liked the cherry apron. Maybe if Jen had spent a little less time on kitchen frou-frou she would have done a better job with the living room. I loved the fireplace, but it needed something. Didn't like the tv area much at all.

I started not to vote for either of them because I like them equally for different reasons. However, I'm leaning toward Matt and have already given him 2 votes today. I'm saving my other 3 for later.

To the producers, my husband and I both loved this show. He is a police officer, and really appreciated the fact that these two civil servants were rewarded and assisted for their service to others. We were appalled that they had to wait this long. We hope that more shows like this channel their production money to those who have waited patiently to be remembered by their fellow citizens.

I'm voting for Matt. I'd really love to see Trish and Mikey V together on a show. Great combination of designers and the show would be fantastic.

The first 4 episodes of this season were so boring. No one really stood out - tho' Matt & Jen's work was the best. They both shined in the final show. Good luck to both!!!

Posted by kathleen sobolik – July 29, 2008 1:40 PM

Sparkle, it is good to see that you didn't just disappear after your desin challenge.

I say again, KILL THE JUDGES. How dare they say this was a million times better than the other two finals! What a put down for David Bromstad who's show continues to be renewed. And Vern Yip last year voting for Todd Davis and his quarterpipes, broken furniture, and Lazy Susan's in living spaces Then being all sugar sweet on Deserving Design about doing liveable spaces. I never watch his show. GET NEW JUDGES!

I agree the contestants should have more time. And I'd like to see more of their designs and less of the getting out of bed, teeth brushing and makeup. And skip the bickering.

Cut out the group challenges. If you want to see how they organize and direct a team--give them a team with a painter and a carpenter and see how they interact.

Even tho Jen dropped the ball with a dining room table too small for the family,(did it have an extension?) I liked that she accessorized with dishes on the table, a plant by the fireside, and things on the kitchen counter. Matt's only contribution was the Indian goddess bust. Minimalist does not mean BARE.

For those of you who can't read directions, I guess you don't get a vote.

Now that this season is over,it will be interesting to see what Matt will do because we all know what Kim can't do.She may do hair well but can't design, watched her first show and turned off all the rest.Stripes on the celing, get real.Jen--well all she had in her living room was a white couch wich was tooo big and white. All she had in there was a couch and a tv??.Red cabinets will get real old real fast. Matt's whole idea was more for dailey living.I have watched HGTV for a long time and enjoy it.The concept has sure changed over the years, gone are the days of crafts and the how to's, to buying a home, selling a home, cleaning a home. The first two needs to be asked of a realtor and the last one can only be said that soap and trash bags are really cheap.Share with us here in tv land not only the before and afters but include the names of the paint and where to find the vase, more enfo on insatalling the counter top etc:Getting off the soap box, I will say Matt seems to be the one to replase Kim.

Posted by Vera – July 29, 2008 1:21 PM

I agree with Teri. Break with tradition and give us the Matt and Jen show. Matt was very gracious in allowing Jen to have Mikey V first.
There were things that I like about each of the designs. So far with this series, I think that they can't find anyone better than David Bromstad. His designs in season one were inspired. Kim Myles great on air personality but doesn't have a clue about design.Next season do a better job screening candidates.

Finally, a choice that I can make with a good conscious. Two designers, both with good qualities. One a man, and one a women. My vote goes to Jen. If either one of them would make a good design star, then my vote is for the female. Can you tell, I'm a Hillary fan?

I always LOVE to see and hear from Sparkle Josh--what an uplifting personality and smile--he always makes my day seem brighter--thank you, Sparkle Josh!
While I like both designers, I have to vote for MATT--he is a soulful designer, artist & builder--it seems he can do it all, plus, he has a spirit and aura about him that makes people feel better and he LISTENS to the needs/wants of the people he is designing and building for while he also "listens" to the spirit of the place (room) he is designing in/for-there are not many other designers that have this special something it takes to make things better for people, to make such positive changes in their life and to give that cheerful hope that all human beings reach out for everyday--there is a deep, sensitive faith in MATT that can be passed on to thousands, maybe millions, of people who he designs & builds for, and to those who watch him on TV.
It is encouraging to me to know that there are still souls like MATT who live on this earth and can touch people's lives and make such a difference! Thank you MATT & SPARKLE JOSH!

I found this season to be the most bland of all. I think the judges were even bored this year. Their comments didn't seem to express any more interest than the designs they were evaluating. But overall, I have to say I liked Matt a little better. He seemed to design more than just decorate. I think either one will have an okay show, much like last year's winner, Kim. Nothing spectacular, but worth a look now and then.

This is my first season to watch and I have to say I am now hooked on HGTV. I enjoyed watching this show so much. I love both Jen and Matt they are both great designers and very personable in front of the camera. I also agree with most others out there and think a show with both of them would be great, they work so well together. But if we can choose only one it has to be Matt, his work is awesome and his personality just shines in front of the camera. Love ya Jen but got to vote for Matt.

While I do love Sparkle and think he's a doll I wouldn't want to watch an entire show of his designs. I have to say I disagree with most about Matt being the winner and think that Jen is the only way to go. You can't just base your opinion on the last show, you should base it on the whole season. Jen obviously did much better in every challenge! She is artistic, and genuine, and I would love to watch her presenting a do-it-yourself type show.
I also want to say I still love David, and love Color Splash...he is so talented and adorable!!! And while I voted for Kim last year I'm completely disappointed in her show and dislike her designs.
I'm hoping everyone reconsiders their vote for Matt and chooses Jen based on the whole season, plus his kitcen was just ugly and not thought out. Give Jen a break, her house was half the size of Matt's and he had 3 people to consider and Jen had a football team to design for.
VOTE FOR JEN!!!!

Posted by mommy21 – July 29, 2008 11:31 AM

Jennifer and Matt are both great designers, each with their own unique style but what decided my vote was how each faced a crises. Matt saw that the red paint he choose was rolling up on the walls and met the challenge head-on, switched to another paint and got the job done. Jennifer sat down and cried when she realized the huge white (what a bad color for a large family with children) did not fit the small living room. I felt she should have taken her room measurements and space planner with her so she would know what size furniture to buy. Also the sectional had connecters that restricted how the units could be used and she should have checked each piece to see how it went together to make sure it could be separated. Based on each designer's ability to adjust quickly and creatively to unforeseen challenges, I voted for Matt.

I really like them both!! I love the idea of co-hosts!! They should both win and just make one show with both of them!!! I would watch it!!

I vote for BOTH -- The Jenn & Matt Design Show. They are both great!!! Has HGTV ever thought of 2 designers together???

Posted by Teri – July 29, 2008 11:03 AM

A tough one this year. Did not know who I was voting for untill I sat at the conputer and review each message!!! I liked Jennifer from the start but Matt is great also. What about a tie?? I picked Jennifer though.

The web voting is not available! It is only Tuesday! How can this be fair if people who want to vote can not do so?

PLEASE FIX THE WEB VOTING! No buttons are showing!

Both did a great job. This is so much better than "The Apprentice," in that almost all of the candidates were talented and the emphasis was on competence rather than "gimmicks." Excellent show--I am now hooked. Matt did a better job overall, even though Jen pulled through at the end. White leather couch=No No for a family with kids--I ought to know, I have a similar white leather couch! The red cabinets were great, but that was the ONLY thing that "popped" for me in all of Jen's efforts, and the family wanted the red. As for Matt, he added thoughtful and creative touches in every room. Some were subtle, but they were always there. He seemed to "connect" better with not only what the family WANTED but ALSO with what the family NEEDED. He was more "spot on" than Jen. Also, Jen got too flustered. She made a mistake with the couches (did not realize they had connectors on them), did stripes on the wall (WHY?), put design ahead of function (white couch), got too emotional (hey, it's 36 hours, get over it and do what you are supposed to be doing rather than whining or crying), and her hosting ability was less polished and more amateurish. That said, I think BOTH are way above average and extremely talented! Both have winning personalities and "stage presence" when push comes to shove. Both did a lot for "their" families. However, I think Matt's work will be more enduring and will stand the test of time in terms of functionality and family satisfaction.

PLEASE FIX THE VOTING BUTTONS!

Posted by Kate – July 29, 2008 10:57 AM

My vote is for Matt. Jen a white couch with children, NO WAY. Then just where were they all to eat, not at that small glass table.

Posted by Lois – July 29, 2008 10:25 AM

I agree, Josh. I would watch either Matt or Jennifer. Both are wonderful persons, both have great camera presence, and both are great designers. I give Matt the edge here as he is not only also a master carpenter, but seems to pay attention to the details with regard to how things are constructed, and could therefore be changed to fit the room if necessary.

Posted by Ralph Puccini – July 29, 2008 9:59 AM

I think that there was an answer for Jen's room, if she had the larger table and put it in the fireplace area and moved the family room to the front, that should have given a better flow to the room and the dining room would have been by the kitchen making it easier for serving....the red cabinets were great and I am doing that myself after seeing them, I do think that she needed more color maybe in bright floor cushions for the kids and bright thow pillows for the sofa.

Posted by Kay Clements – July 29, 2008 9:23 AM

I think both contestants did an awesome job. I was disappointed that Jen did not buy bar stools for the tall counter. These would have been appreciated with such a large family. Also, I feel the dinning room table was too small and the white couch was not a very kid friendly choice.
So my vote goes to Matt. He listemed to the wants of the family by keeping the design minimalistic, but also wasn't afraid to add the upper cabinets in the kitchen, on one side, which are a must when it comes to re-sale for any house. His choice to give Mikey to Jen first was very unselfish and classy. Loved the crystal light in the dining room, too.
I agree a show with both Matt and Jen would be a success!!!!

Posted by J. Fearon – July 29, 2008 9:14 AM

Jenn, I loved your kitchen! That was fab! Since you went with white leather and stripes, that tells me you can do either style and design. You'd be great and I will surely watch your show. I loved your shabby chic as well!
Matt you are the best, you have great ideas, and you seem to really care about what your doing for the people, your heart for what you do, really shines. With all that said, I say what many others have said, GIVE THEM BOTH A SHOW. I have to vote for both of them, because I couldnt get it down to just one.
Trish scared me with her leather looks, twice! So manly, but I loved the fact that she was willing to come back to help, she was the only contestant who left, that was NOT interviewed, that was a rip!
All in all, I feel connected to the last four, and I believe they would all be great design stars, and you dont have to be on TV to do a great job, and work for yourselves. SO THANKFUL Tracee is gone! But I do believe that she was sit up for failure from the word go.
Michael, You were the one I MOST wanted to BE GONE, then Tracee.

I would watch Matt or Jen, but if they were on together, Id probably never miss! I love David too, and Candice!! HOW DEVINE!

Posted by Debbie – July 29, 2008 9:10 AM

I'm casting my vote for the "Matt and Jen Show". Matt brings the carpentry/construction aspect (wow on the bed in the first challenge!), Jen brings the bling (love the wall painting!), the two of them would deliver the magic.

Posted by Kathy – July 29, 2008 8:45 AM

Matt is my choice. UNLESS I could vote for Sparkle Josh. He is delightful. HGTV are you listening to your viewers?? We want Sparkle in our lives so give us JOSH PLEEEASE!!!

Posted by Judy S.Smith – July 29, 2008 8:28 AM

My husband and I like both of the finalist. We agree with everyone. It would be a fantastic show to have both of the designers. Matt is a problem solver and thinks outside the box. Jennifer is perfect for the design elements. They would be great together as co-hosts.
Love Design star.. except for last year. I dont care for Miles style of decorating. I always looks like a craft project.

Posted by sharon – July 29, 2008 8:20 AM

Matt gets my vote. He can bring something more unique to HGTV.

Posted by Nancy – July 29, 2008 8:15 AM

Watching the show from the beginning with my 9 year old son (he loves giving his opinion as well about the designs, which ones he likes the best), we both agreed about Matt truly being the best. He always comes up with creative solutions. We weren't crazy about the Buddha sofa thing, but that seems to be the only room he made a design error in. Jennifer is very predictable (there will be a painted design on the wall in EVERY house she does). Our vote goes for Matt, hands down. In the last episode he truly have the owners what they requested. I believe anyone with children would NOT request an enormouse white couch. Also, where is the boldness? Red cabinets, that's it. She could have done so much more. I hate the stripes, that's not bold, just ugly. Would have liked to have seen her do a lot more with color. Although I don't like mimimalism, Matt pulled it off beautifully for his clients. My vote goes for him, hands down. Also, I like watching his hosting style, funny and to the point. He nailed it!!!

Posted by Melissa – July 29, 2008 7:57 AM

I said it before everyone ,we should have a Matt&
Jens show or Jenn& Matt show for hgtv to hit a home run, even though Iam voted all the way for Matt, they would be an asset to each other, and when they do that hgtv should give the first make
over, I watch hgtv 24/7 and I have this season
Design Star show all recorded.
I hated tracee, she was to long in the show, cant get along with anyone, Mikey V was sent home prematurely, and wasnt fair for trish to get a rookie carpenter, I loved her & Matt and it would
have given me a headache to choose either one, I
cant wait for the crowning of the winner.
P.s. I had to skip work sunday to see the last show and to cheer for Matt.
Good Luck Matt, your designs ROCK!.

I loved the red in the kitchen! I agree with everyone else, it would be really fun to see Matt and Jen together. It is a shame to see either one of these talented people lose. They are both so creative in totally differnt ways, they really compliment each other. Come on, HGTV--knock our socks off and do the right thing, give them a show together--all your viewers would benefit.

Posted by Karen – July 29, 2008 6:31 AM

Sparkle Josh....You are awesome! I would love to see a "Sparkle Josh" show on HGTV!
As for Jen & Matt. They are both awesome. I think that they both deserve a show of their own. Because at this time only one can win, I am voting for Jen because I like her creativity best, her special wall design, and her personality. Everytime she is on, I just have to smile!
I also love David on "Color Splash." I voted for him and absolutely love him and his show!

Posted by Linda Pettijohn – July 29, 2008 5:16 AM

Love both Jen and Matt. Agree with others, would love to see them both host a show! Both are gracious, talented and energized. There are so many new shows coming on, which am loving new shows, however, can't both of these wonderful people and excellent designers be on a show too?

Posted by Cathy – July 29, 2008 3:38 AM

Matt's got my vote! Jen's use of a white sofa with so many in the family is crazy (I had a white leather sofa once myself - bought before kids - trust me, it didn't last long!) Also, the fact that she didn't provide a large table for the family to eat together really bothered me. I felt she didn't really think of what the family needed, unlike Matt.

Posted by texas mom – July 29, 2008 3:23 AM

Oh, Sparkle Josh, thank you so much for adding a twinkling, upbeat, delightful edge with your commentary on the shows this season. I looked forward to watching you as much as the shows. My fingers are crossed that HGTV will continue to find room for you and keep you linked to the fan base I'm sure you are amassing.
To the others who commented on Kim, I like her shows. I voted for her and I think she's doing a terrific job. She's very down to earth and sincere and her designs aren't far out.
David, of course, is amazing. I just love him.
I'm crazy for Jennifer and Matt. It's so difficult to make a choice. It wouldn't really be fair to pair them for a show, since the contest is to solo host a show. But I hope that HGTV finds another spot somehow for the one who comes in second. They are both so likeable with lots to offer to viewers, it would be a shame to lose either one. If they added more shows maybe they wouldn't run the same shows so many times, which causes me to switch channels. After all, how many times can one watch the same episode of any show?
So, SJ, I hope we'll be seeing you again soon. Until then, stay sweet...xoxox Jane, NY

Yea !!! What a great idea - co - hosts. Both are so talented, but, in different areas - she's more artistic, but, he's got the building skills- perfect combination.

If I had to choose- I'd probably choose Jennifer, still - I like the idea of co- hosts. Can I vote for that ?

Wow, big choice here. I really thought that Matt's rooms were better even though they were very clean. Hey, that's what the homeowner's wanted, and I personally like the idea of leaving room for the homeowner's to add in some of their personal things to really personalize the space. I don't like the idea of accessories just to have accessories, it's more fun to have things you pick up on vacation, or see and love, so they have a story and meaning. Hey, if I have to dust it, it better have meaning!!! I think Jen's rooms made her family happy, and maybe it was just me or the lighting or something, but the kitchen colors just looked off a bit. I have no problem with bold cabinets, mine are cobalt blue and look awesome. But then mine are laminate. I think I would have preferred a reddish stain maybe on those great new wood cabinets, it almost seems a sin to paint something so nice. I also would have liked to see more color in the rest of the rooms to tie it all together. Matt's rooms had more and I think better use of color, so it wasn't just one bold color in one room. I also think Matt did a better job hosting. Jen keeps doing that "bye" thing at the end and always seems just a little nervous/rushed, though that's gotten better. Could I do better? No! But I still think Matt is better. I'm not sure about them doing a show together though. Maybe Jen could do one with her husband, that might work. Let me just say in conclusing, that I'm soooo happy that Trish got the boot. I couldn't really pay attention to her design because her personality was so irritating, grating, obnoxious, and prevented the other designers from doing better. And she couldn't host. Okay, long comment, sorry

Posted by KendraPT – July 29, 2008 2:05 AM

I vote Matt because: Jenn gave that huge family a tiny dining space & filled the entire LR w/a WHITE sectional. The tiled fireplace wasn't her idea & the family wanted lots of bold color, but got all nuetral except for red cabinets. PLUS she stressed & cried thru the whole deal. I don't want to watch a show w/an emotional stressed out designer, there's enough drama in life, ok?

Matt gave his family what they wanted, needed, AND asked for. He also graciously let Jenn have Mike's much needed help the first day (imagine her stress level if Matt hadn't put her needs ahead of his!?!) Ya'll hush & let him wear his doo rags if he wants to.

I agree the judges are kind of a joke. How about some fresh faces there HGTV? If the shows about what America wants, why not let US judge the whole season, something like American Idol?

Myles of Style... no budget, no problem? I don't bother watching because Kim's idea of a budget is way more than mine & most of her designs are too expensive for the average person to do.

I used to love Color Splash. David is SO talented, but the designs get more & more expensive as time goes on. Unrealistic for the average homeowner.

Lastly, are you listening HGTV? WE WANT YOU TO GIVE SPARKLE JOSH HIS OWN SHOW! Don't lose your Sparkle, Josh...pray for you often...we love you and Jesus does, too :-)

Posted by Nancy – July 29, 2008 1:41 AM

Yep, has to be Matt. The white couch and tiny dining table/s with that huge family of KIDS would not make me happy. I think the family will have to make some changes once the "shine" wears off.

Posted by Mama Mia – July 29, 2008 1:39 AM

That was a great show! It was about time, especially after last year with Kim winning. We think that a Matt & Jen show would really get the ratings up there. I know that there would be a large following for their show. We voted for Matt, we felt that overall he did the best job and listened to carefully to all their wants. But Jen did a great job also, but the livingroom couch-ick! and the seating for only 6 in the dinning room was a mistake, they asked for 8-10.

CO-HOSTS! ITS THE ONLY SOLUTION, THEY ARE PERFECT

Posted by cure diabetes – July 29, 2008 1:20 AM

I really would like to see both Jennifer and Matt in a show together. I believe they could both give so much for a wonderful show, one that I would tune in for. If I had to just pick one of them it would be Jennifer. I would pick her not only on her design but I love to hear her laugh and reach the people she works with. But let see them both win.

Posted by JaNeille – July 29, 2008 1:17 AM

Love them both. Jen has a great smile. But, Matt gets my vote. He is cool under pressure, really listens to the clients and delivers. His dining room was amazing, as was Jen's kitchen. I love how Matt gives God the glory, saying repeatedly he is "blessed." That takes courage on national TV. David in season 1 did the same.
Go Matt.

Posted by Cheryl – July 29, 2008 1:17 AM

Co-Hosts. Why would you not?

Posted by cure diabetes – July 29, 2008 1:13 AM

I hope HGTV has someone reading this blog because so many feel the same way I do...there should be a Matt and Jennifer show! They have different and very important strengths and would compliment each other in their own show. Also, like everyone else...I'd love to see Sparkle Josh with his own show. I do love Kim Myles show, she's very down to earth and has do-able ideas and I voted for her. But Sparkle... somehow you just put the joy in life. I cried like a baby when you went home.

Posted by Carol R – July 29, 2008 12:54 AM

I COMPLETELY agree that Jen and Matt would be fabulous co-hosts for a new show! I would love to see that happen.

And I think Kim Myles from last season is doing a super job! I love all her designs this season so far. I don't think she's out of her league at all. She is obviously researching formal design on her own as she goes along. She has really become a super designer since the first episode of Season 2. Way to go Kim!!

David rocks as well and I know this season's winner will also. Thanks for such a great show HGTV!

Posted by Melissa – July 29, 2008 12:54 AM

Both are good designers, but Jen really connects with the camera and her clients. She's approachable and real. I just don't get that genuine feeling from Matt. His design choices seem cold and museum-like. I don't think the regular person on HGTV can relate to that kind of design work. Jen adds personality and real life living details to her work. She's been consistantly pleasant and warm. I haven't felt that from Matt. I just think he has a bit of a "fake" quality about him. Jen gets my vote!

The layout of the houses was a huge part of both designs. Although I think Matt's house had the better layout to show rooms that pop, I loved Jens kitchen better. However, Matt's dining room (seated more people, whereas Jens dining areas were scattered all over the house to accommodate all the people they needed), and his living room had much more appeal. Great show for 36 hours, but New Orleans is really done. Matt has my vote.

Posted by Lisa – July 29, 2008 12:26 AM

I loved both . They both should be chosen to host and quite a few others seem to agree with me when I read the comments. A great show and so much fun to watch. These two are totally talented and have great personalities.

Posted by Jeanette – July 29, 2008 12:23 AM

Loved the season finale and agree with the others that both would make a perfect pair for a show. I also noticed that the judges did not critique the rooms as they had in past seasons. Great on HGTV's part because it truly allows America to make the final decision by not introducing bias into minds of the voters. I would also like to see Alice from the first season have a show of her own. Sparkle Josh, you rock- I would watch any show you hosted. I also say kudos to Kim Myles, whom I adore and watch every episode.

Posted by Toula Glass – July 29, 2008 12:23 AM

I voted for Matt, even though I like both. Matt's enthusiasm was great and you could tell how jazzed he was to be there. Jennifer was very good but I didn't think she did as good a job as Matt. Her dining room table was too small and a white couch for a family with kids? Matt's chrystal chandelier was so awesome and I loved how he connected with his family when they told him they liked 'minimalist' style. Great job Matt and I hope you win! As for Sparkle Josh, I hope to see you soon on your own show. You are fun to watch and I love your funny comments.

Ms. or Mr. HGTV Addict: It is totally inappropriate to bring Ms. Miles show into this blog about Season 3's Design Star. Your negativity gets on my last nerve. Kindly take a little advice: If you can't say something nice, please don't say anything at all!

Posted by goldyinthehouse – July 29, 2008 12:08 AM

PRODUCERS OF HGTV: PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR VIEWERS... NAME TWO WINNERS THIS YEAR! TRULY JEN AND MATT ARE BOTH WINNERS, I HAVE TO VOTE FOR BOTH OF THEM. AND WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT SPARKLE, HE REALLY NEEDS TO HAVE HIS OWN SHOW!

Posted by SHERRY – July 28, 2008 11:59 PM

I agree that Matt and Jen would do better together than separate because I just don't feel that either one has what it takes to carry their own show. I voted for Matt only because his genuine nature comes through, but for a "sparkle" that would make viewers tune into their show, I totally agree that Sparkle Josh should host like Clive does. Otherwise you end up with a boring show like Kim's, even though she is a good designer.

Posted by Belinda – July 28, 2008 11:51 PM

I've just been reading over some of the comments from other viewers and I must say I am in complete agreement that perhaps this year HGTV should take a different direction in crowning the next HGTV Design Star. Both Jen and Matt are good in their own ways and seem to balance out each other. YES I would love to see them be co-hosts of a show together!!! The show itself was a little disappointing and a bit boring to me. I liked the 1st and 2nd season better. It had more individual challenges so you could really see the quality of what each designer was able to bring to the show. We really didn't need to see so much of who could be the better leader or who could play well with others. A comment was made about Kim Myles which I would like to go on record by saying,"I love her show!" Think about it for a second, almost every design show is about how "with money" you can have these fab rooms and homes. I don't have the money and I've seen some things Kim has done with little or no money that really looked great! So for those of us who can't afford to do anything but dream of ever having rooms designed by a designer ... I say great job!

Posted by Kathryn – July 28, 2008 11:48 PM

Both are good designers and entertaining to watch. But all things condisered, Matt is the better designer by far. Jen is more artistic, but Matt consistently comes up with unique solutions to very challenging problems - even staying calm and solving the merlot & cabinet paint problems. He is thoughtful in his commentary and engaging. the only reason Jen painted the cabinets red is because that is what the family wanted (Fire Capt, duh!). Jen is adorable, but I watch for the designs and Matt is more unique and thoroughly creative. Did anyone else notice how Matt placed the upper cabinet handles horizontily instead of vertical? It continues the clean lines of his minimilist kitchen (personally I am very traditional)and is unexpected. Next shot shows Jen's kitchen with only the drawer handles horizontal all others vertical. It looks unsettling even though it is the norm. Matt's decision to think outside the box on many designs shows his talent. I want to see more of what Matt can do.

Posted by firefly – July 28, 2008 11:46 PM

Hard to decide. Both were good. I think Trish got ripped off having to design for older parents and not much of a fun space. I think they should have had a more equal challenge (same room or age of client). She had the best hosting skills out of any of the contestants. Not my favorite season, all the waterworks, backstabbing(Michael), and rude comments from Vern. It was refreshing to see how well Matt and Jen worked together as opposed to Michael and Tracey. It will be exciting to see who will win the season. Both of the final two designers have great potential. Have to agree with others, I voted for Kim last season but the show is a disappointment. Hope next year isn't such a soap opera.

Posted by Jimmy – July 28, 2008 11:36 PM

I am all for Matt and have liked him from the beginning. Jen is nice but what was she thinking putting in a OFF WHITE couch with a house full of small children? And I didn't see her dining room as anything special, just the red cabinets were a nice touch and interesting, good kitchen. Matt did an excellent job on every space and it had more interest in each room. Love watching Color Splash, change the channel when Myles of Style comes on so am hoping this year's winner adds to the shows I enjoy.

Posted by Penny – July 28, 2008 11:31 PM

I would still rather watch Sparkle ANY day of the week!!! One thing I wondered... since you live near Nashville, did you get to visit this season's contestants? Miss you and Love, Love, LOVE YOU!!!

Mikey V. should be one of the carpenters on a show. Maybe the winner of this show should get Mikey V. Good luck Mikey

Sorry all, I've been a HUGE fan of all seasons of Design Star. I am so disappointed to say, however, that this season was completely uninspiring, boring, and amateurish from top to bottom. I feel that no one really had enough design ability to hold my attention for any show. The entire season was devoid of inspiring creativity and I am so disappointed that one of these two will be foisted upon us with another mediocre show a la Kim's boring nightmare. Come on selection committee, let's get some REAL INSPIRING DESIGNERS on this show next time!!

Posted by Wade – July 28, 2008 11:24 PM

From the beginning I loved being 'surprised' by Matt's creativity. Even his folks' house required a twist only Matt could produce to make a sterile, totally organized space into a functioning fun room with style. I'm so totally hooked on this mature young man introduced to me through our women's study group. We all think the world of him. Way to go, Matt. You did not let us down! Jenn is cute and girly, but does not have your depth of capability, style, personality and professionalism. I am an HGTV nut with all my favorites TIVO'd. This has been another fun year!

Posted by Annie – July 28, 2008 11:18 PM

OK. They are both great but this was not a contest for the best two to have a show. The way I see it Matt won the living room and dining room and Jen won the kitchen. Two for Matt. One for Jen. Did you notice the antique piece left in Jens client's house? Wouldn't that have made a nice sentimental addition near the fireplace with some books and a couple of club chairs.(Which could have been used as part of an extended living area if she had chosen 2 couches instead of that hideous sectional.) I think the absence of cabinets on one wall made the Matt kitchen feel bigger and honor the client's wishes. The brown paint was not so great . I vote for Matt, but lets face it either of them can design circles around Kim Myles who is such a letdown after David B.

Great final show....it is so nice to see good people do good things. HGTV did a great job w/ the final challenge.
Matt and Jen are both so wonderful!! I have to give the edge to Jen for overall design and bringing herartists eye andcompassion to the client. It would be great for them to share a show, no disappointed viewers at all, and a cool surprise finish. But if a choice must be made....Jen it is.

Posted by Jennifer Oldham – July 28, 2008 11:07 PM

In my opinion, this was the worst season in the history of design star seasons! The judges claim they were "raising the bar" but they would have been better off finding people who were inexperienced than the so-called "professionals" who can't design that well. I believe that Mickey V and Trish were two of the best designers and it's hard to choose between Matt and Jen for the simple fact that there is nothing extroadinary about their designs! Come on! David shined with his art work and eye for color and Kim's creativity enhanced most rooms she did. However, this season was terrible, especially when Mickey V got eliminated because of his hosting ability, which could have improved over time. I'm extremely dissapointed . . . hope next season goes better!

For the record, I would only vote for Jenifer because she can match and she's artistic. Matt cannot match, yet he's innovative. So there's a lot to consider. Best luck to both of them though!!! Go Jen go!!!

Posted by Lindsay – July 28, 2008 11:07 PM

Over all both were super designs, however white sofa for a large family (children) household struck me as not good choice. And then placement was not good either. His over skills, are better than hers.

I love love love David bromstad's color splash! Also I will watch Jen if she wins. Matt is a great guy but love Jen's touch. Kim Miles not so much.I think she is personable but her designs I would NEVER do. Sorry Kim.I did love Sparkle Josh. He was so cute and funny. I'm sure he is doing great back home. Can't wait to see who it is.....on pins and rollers!!! LOL

I sincerely hope they win together. They each have such a different set of strengths that their combined skills would be fun and fantastic to watch. Please HGTV, keep them both!

Posted by Everyman – July 28, 2008 10:55 PM

Loved Matt from Episode 1- the bedroom design! I've thought that Matt would be a finalist since that episode and I voted for him! Jenn is great too, but she is almost always overwhelmed by her to do list. I agree with most that the two together would work well and that dragging out the drama with Tracy almost made me stop watching! Sparkle, you're wonderful and I often wish you had your own show!

Posted by Julie "Juj" Lawson – July 28, 2008 10:51 PM

My votes are for Matt, who has shown ingenuity in meeting tough challenges again and again. Jen is proving herself to be a little of a one-trick pony, always relying on paint to make her statements. As a host, Matt shines once again, embodying both enthusiasm and calm, while Jen's eyes do creepy and distracting things and her voice grates. Plus, I, too, gained respect for him for being thoughtful about his 'opponent' even through the last challenge. As for the person who complained about Kim Myles but then praised Jen for do-it-yourself projects, maybe you should get over yourself and take a moment to watch Kim's show -- I'm always learning new DIY tricks from her, and am continually impressed by her creativity and ability to think outside of the box.

Posted by Rena – July 28, 2008 10:48 PM

I think this has been very exciting this season. I think that Jen is better on camera. I really like how she is exciting and just bumps up the common solutions to the next step. Jen really encourages people to step out of the box and do it themselves. I love home improvement projects and Jen shows that anyone can do it. I really hope that Jen wins. I will watch her like I do Kim. Great job Jen.

OH my what a great concept! The "Room by Room" thoughts with Matt and Jen! I love that. I miss that show..it did get outdated but more I love the chemistry between the two. Now you have Matt and Jen..Please HGTV! Give them a show together! I almost didn't vote for I just didn't know who to vote for. I love them both..and this would be the excellent decision!

I loved both Matt and Jen. I voted for Jen the first night and then voted for Matt the second night. I don't know who I will vote for tomorrow. They are both so talented and personable. I agree that HGTV should put them on a design show together. What ba great ending to a great season.

Posted by Terrie O – July 28, 2008 9:50 PM

I vote Matt........he did the most unselfish act of letting Mike help Jennifer as she had not done a kitchen makeover before.

His heart is big, his designs are innovative.

Posted by Leah – July 28, 2008 9:40 PM

I agree with Sparkle that I would watch either Jennifer or Matt. However, I identify more with Jennifer's design style. I think both handled their challenges with class and grace, and both have great personalities for a design show. I'm voting for Jennifer but wish both luck.

Posted by bert – July 28, 2008 9:38 PM

I wanted Trish to win, and thought she and Matt would be the last two up there. Jen just can't do anything without breaking into tears. Matt can do everything well. So ok, he's not the best looking guy on HGTV, but that's not the most important qualification. I like Kim's show, but I think Matt will be even better.

Posted by Dee – July 28, 2008 9:29 PM

I agree with those folks who think Matt & Jennifer would make a terrific team. But if I have to pick just one, it would be Matt. Jenn is a sweetie, and very talented, but she seems to be a little short-sighted sometimes. Matt seems to be able to think on his feet better and doesn't seem to get so flustered. No matter who wins, I hope this competition vaults their careers to great heights!

Posted by Debbie Bonner – July 28, 2008 9:25 PM

This is a tough call. Both deserve to have a show- put them together!!!!!

Posted by Lynn Morici – July 28, 2008 8:51 PM

I voted for Jenn one day and Matt the next. I really think they would make a great team, and I hate to pick one above the other. I do love David from Season 1, too! HGTV, how about a dynamic duo this time?

Posted by Katherine S – July 28, 2008 8:45 PM

I disagree with the criticism of Kim Myles. I enjoy her show a lot. I think either Jen or Matt could do a good job. Designed to Sell and House Hunters are my favorite shows. Those are the two I always watch.

Posted by Sandra Martin – July 28, 2008 8:44 PM

What competition! My 1st Design Star season & I loved it! Matt was my fav from the start with his audition before the judges. I really liked everybody EXCEPT Tracee. She DID seem to have some good ideas but was such a horrible team player which I think is important in the design business. I too, would like to see Jen & Matt together as they have such incredible, unique talents. However, I'm voting for Matt because I feel he brings architectual surprises which I am not seeing much of on HGTV right now. Would watch either. Love you both & wish you much success. Best wishes to the other contestants - you were all great! Mikey V - you're hot, more importantly have a great personality, & a great design eye & style. Don't give up on the design business!

Posted by Jill – July 28, 2008 8:32 PM

Producers, pls fix the web voting ASAP. I can't get it to work in either Internet Explorer or Mozilla. Good luck to both, both are nice easy to watch people. (My vote will go to Matt, when I can get the red dot to actually work.

Posted by JD – July 28, 2008 8:25 PM

i voted jen. she knows does what the client wants. not what she think they should want. maybe the white sofa had a stain and dirt coating to protect it from the kids. they could always put on a covr for a few years. i did with my light cover. matt and jen would make a great team on one show. would be very well received. kim myles is not good quality. i turn her off when she comes on. her show should be CANCELD! the vote button does not work now. hopefully it will get fixed. the judges think too highly of themselves and have shortchanged most of these contestents. and i love clive! he is sexy! love all his shows!

Posted by grandma – July 28, 2008 8:16 PM

There will never be a better design star than DAVID! With that said...I did not enjoy this season because the designers were not up to the usual standard in my opinion, the finalists are there because they made the least mistakes, not because they did anything outstanding. Also, I hope next time the designers get to do more INDIVIDUALLY so that one can see their personal creativity rather than recombining them each week...that's why we saw more whining and bickering and less wow...disappointing (even though I am a GREAT fan of the show).
WE LUV U TOO SPARKLE!

Posted by L Davison – July 28, 2008 8:06 PM

Matt & Jen Show...awesome! Both did an outstanding job so it's hard to make a decision! LOVE...LOVE...LOVE...Sparkle Josh! Please, HGTV, keep him!

Hey, Sparkle Josh, would LOVE to see/hear more from you at HGTV!! Love "Sparkle(as)the new black"!!

Jenn & Matt are both great people. She has a great eye for surface decoration, but he is the better designer. Her red cabinets were great, but Matt gets my vote.

Past times: Continue to love David Bromstad's designs. Last season was a disappointment. Mal was a better designer than the 2 finalists.

Cheers to HGTV for the New Orleans assist and reminder.

Posted by Dianne – July 28, 2008 7:52 PM

I don't agree with one of the judges when she said that every season gets better than the previous one.
The best final still is the first one with David and Alice! The second final was just horrible, and that annoying Kim didn't win because she was better, but because the other guy (I don't even remember his name) WAS WORSE! I'll be so happy when Kim Myles' show is cancelled, because now I have to change channels just so I don't have her "invading" my TV. I even prefer to watch Nancy Grace than Kim Myles!!!
As for this season, Matt has my vote. Jen is annoying with that attitude of outgrown teenager, drama queen and that silly smile. I just don't like her and her design is always the same: "patterned" walls with paint. It seems that she doesn't know what else to do. And what's up with ALWAYS painting a fine piece of furniture? That's not design!
As with the Myles lady, if Jen wins, I won't watch.

Posted by Itzel – July 28, 2008 7:32 PM

Both Matt & Jenn are great. A show together....why not? I could be really successful because their personalities work well together. I thought last season, that they should have come up with a vehicle for Sparkle Josh and Will. The two of them had a great working relationship that came across on camera. Will paid particular attention to the needs of the client, and Josh had the flair to be their spokesman.

Posted by GoBlue – July 28, 2008 7:25 PM

SPARKLE JOSH -just love him. Wish HGTV could find a permanent place for him.

I agree with some of the bloggers - this season was overall pretty boring. Didn't think the designers were particularly talented except for the last two - still they neither one show the talent of David B. or the innovation (one "n" or two???)of Kim. I really don't know what the judges were thinking when they picked this year's challengers. And that Tracee - what a witch - lying and blaming - she should have been disqualified very early on waaaaaaaaaaaay before D. Paul. I don't even want to see her next week.

Can't wait to see who wins.

This years show kept me interested. I voted for Matt. As just about everyone else has said, they both are great designers, but there is something about Matt's style that I like. Jen is a fabulous person to watch on the screen, that a tie would not break my heart. The two of them together, WOW what a show. I also noticed that in front of the judges, both Matt and Jen kept their mouths closed. Nice touch having Mikey V and Trish there. Matt when you get your show, my house has a room for you to redo!!!!!!

Posted by Ronn – July 28, 2008 6:55 PM

I, too, love both Matt and Jennifer. However, having them be co-hosts would cause tension and dischord. As nice as both of them appear to be, there can be only one designer on a set at a time. Matt and Sherry are the rare exception where co-hosting worked. They were able to successfully pull it off.

Now, if Matt were the designer one show and Jennifer the designer the next show, etc., that might work. But I don't believe it would be fair to either of them. They competed for their own show, not to co-host with some one else.

As for this year's Design Star, my vote goes to Jennifer because I believe she is the more engaging host and because her rooms look like someone actually lives there. Matt's rooms are beautiful, but he stops one step short of making them look inviting. They lack personality.

Posted by Babushka – July 28, 2008 6:53 PM

I love them both! I can't decide. A "Matt & Jen" show would be great! How about having "Mike" as a guest on "The Man Show"...he would be great there, too!

Posted by Lupe – July 28, 2008 6:30 PM

My first time to write a blog. Thank you to addict to say they changed the station when Kim Myles was on; it was almost brave of you. Would have been totally brave if you signed your name. I think Kim is sweet but way out of her league. After David B. and some of the other contestants I am still baffled how she won the show. I am glad that she has fans and wish her the very best but I will watch all the other shows over and over but not hers. We all have our individual taste. I with a lot of you and think that Matt & Jennifer would make a great duet. But if HGTV doesn't go for that then it is Matt for me because of his careful planning and attention to details.

Posted by Janet – July 28, 2008 6:24 PM

Hey HGTV!! Listen up! Give us what we want...a show with BOTH Matt and Jen! They are both awesome and for the first time I am having a hard time deciding who to vote for! Hopefully the "powers that be" at HGTV will be reading these comments!

And I agree with lots of others who have said that a truly classy and kind moment was when Matt gave Mickey V to Jen for the first day to help her with the kitchen. I am leaning toward Matt as the winner, if there has to be only one!

Thanks, HGTV for all the great shows you give us!

Posted by Patti – July 28, 2008 6:24 PM

I'm voting for Jennifer, but Matt has such a way about him - he is humble, and thoughtful. I love that he took Trish to help him and was so sweet about it. And for once, you actually gave them a work crew! But they should have had a crew for the first 2 days, not just one day. Sparkle, love you, guy!!!! Come on, HGTV, give him a bit of work to do! Although as a commentator, he is a riot! I do love Jen's red cabinets, and I can see why she did not buy a huge table - it would not have fit! Matt's cabinets on the one side were great - it kept the space balanced and allowed the appliances to blend with the wall, not be totally obtrusive. Do wish he would have done soemthing a little bigger on the blank kitchen wall - the picture was too small! They are both delightful to watch, but Jen puts the final touches and decorative things that finish a room better than Matt. I'd like to see you train him with Carter and send him to a new venue as a green builder-designer-decorator. The Houston-Dallas areas could really use a design show here. Texas needs education in green living and I don't see anything being done here!
God bless both of these young people, and PLEASE start giving some past people their own shows. And I, for one, have to say that I have also dissed the judges, but I do want to thank them for taking their time from busy lives to help someone else get a start.

All season long I was sure that Jen was going to get my vote. She has all the elements needed to be a host on HGTV: talented, teamspirited, kindhearted, capable, approachable. But with his final design Matt won my vote. He has all those qualities, plus he has an intellectual aspect to his design that would be a great addition to the line-up on HGTV. I agree, however, that pairing the two would be awesome! BTW I LOVE Kim Myles' designs. I don't know what those others are talking about. She is one of the few I would trust to do a room in my home.

Posted by Karen – July 28, 2008 6:05 PM

As much as I love Jen, I just can't handle her laugh, and like how much she says "like". I know that sounds petty, but hey; they're going to be tv personalities, so it's important.
Did Matt give Jen Mikey V first to make points with the voters...or is he really that nice?

How about a Matt and Mikey show?

I loved Jen's kitchen, and Matt's dining room. Both living rooms were sort of blah.

Posted by MH – July 28, 2008 5:55 PM

I thought the season started off pretty slow, but by the time it was down to 3 contestants, things really got exciting. I love both Matt and Jen, and really can't pick one over the other. I will vote, but I may alternate each day. A show with both of them would be a great idea, but like so many, it won't happen. Good luck to both, You both were great!

I still cannot find the button, so have not yet voted for JEN! I too think both Jen and Matt are wonderful, and this has been a difficult decision. I agree that a show co-hosted by both of them would be awesome.

I hope they get the problem with voting on line remedied shortly!!!!!

Posted by Marty – July 28, 2008 5:47 PM

I voted for Jen because I never got over that complete mess that Matt made of the individual challenge - coming up with a Buddist temple - what a joke. He bombed that one big time! I also don't like all the crying Matt does. Spare us. I understood Jen's tears at the final challenge though, those came from being tired, not from a simply whining. For the final challenge, these people should have been given a shopping day to do right by the clients! Why was Matt estranged from his family? That was a turnoff as well. Crybaby. No one can compete with David Bromstad, but Jen shows a real artistic ability. She can paint my walls anytime. I do not think that makes her a one trick pony. She does not reuse the same design in her wall art. The judges kept commenting on the talent being better this year, I disagree. I thought Tracee got a raw deal. She didn't sign up to be maligned this way. Trish was a real villain, but the cameras never portrayed her that way. It became a mob mentality and the producers should have skipped showing that. Tracee was honest with the judges with her perspective of what went wrong and was portrayed as a witch. The judges started the eating frenzy. Bottom line, these people worked well with the people they had something in common with and they were nasty to the others. Showed a clear lack of professionalism. You don't always get to choose who you work with, so play nice or go home! Jen has a husband at home that she can utilize in her new show. I hope it works out for them!

Posted by Sarah Marie – July 28, 2008 5:43 PM

Jen is a risk taker and can adapt to different styles. She can keep the peace but stand up for her ideas too. She is also practical -- that sofa is leather. Matt wasted valuable money on that chandelier -- surely there was an economical look alike.

They are both super designers and I like the idea of them doing a show together -- they are both personalities that could work together as team with others. Maybe whoever wins could recruit Mikey V! His enthusiam is infectious and would be fun to watch every week.

One of the best parts of this season is getting to watch Sparkle Josh! It's been like "Fireside Chats" with Josh and he is so warm and welcoming and bubbly.

I've tried to watch Kim Myles' show and every time I end up fast forwarding through and end up with no new good ideas. Big contrast to David's show!

I agree the Matt & Jenn show would be great.
But since I have to vote I think it will be Matt.
So glad to see Sparkle Josh has not been forgotten. He needs his own show.

Posted by Karen Jenkins – July 28, 2008 5:30 PM

The 2 of them havedifferent styles and talents. They are both very pleasant and nice people, but Matt hands down is a true gentleman when he put Jen' over his needs. He could have taken MikeY V and have him help with the kitchen, but he didnot. He has my vote because he will bring something different to HGTV. We need a "how to" show and at the same be able to design a room. Although I agree they could be together in a show, There is always a first time, and this will be the chance for HGTV to do something out of the ordinary.

Posted by nova – July 28, 2008 5:25 PM

Hi Sparkle Josh!
It's so nice to see you again! And by the way, I just hate Myles of Style. Kim is just awful. I hate her designs and presentations. I will be watching HGTV all day, and if her show comes on, I switch channels. I wish you had won. You had so much more class, and I love the way you express yourself.

I think both Jennifer and Matt are great. But overall, I liked Matt's performance over Jennifer's. Jennifer has a nasal type voice that get's irritating during her presentations. I love Matt's desire to please, his inspiring designs, and the hard work he puts in to finish the project. So I voted for Matt. It was a difficult decision, but I like his presentations better and his energy.

Thanks for staying with us. HGTV needs to bring you back, at least periodically, for guest star appearances. That would be great.

I agree that the two should both win. They both have great talent and their chemistry comes through the on the TV. A dual show would be fun again. Whatever did happen to Sherry & Matt? They are the ones to blame for my current addition, HGTV!

Posted by CJ – July 28, 2008 5:00 PM

Sparkle! Here you've been all this time. *mwah* *mwah* for each of your cheeks, darling!

Outside of everything wonderful that was going on with this finale, I have to say, I have never, EVER been so touched by a reality TV show as I was this episode in New Orleans. Being in Texas, those folks are just our neighbors over there, and I have seen so many people relocating to our state with absolutely nothing but the clothes on their backs! It doesn't get any more REAL than that!

To think that HGTV and Design Star cared enough to remember that these people and this city are STILL recovering!!!!! And I'll refrain from anything political here, but just know, it touched me down to the depths of my soul. I sobbed--and I'm not a crier. But I sobbed after watching that show, and that marching band! Oh my! I felt the spirit of New Orleans all the way over here.

GREAT JOB, HGTV! I'm anticipating a delightfully informative show from either finalist. Congrats to BOTH!

I think that Matt nailed his challenge. I liked Jen's but thought she needed more color and bling! They both seem to be really genuine people. It is hard for me to judge one over the other but if I had to, my vote would be for Matt.

Posted by Sherree – July 28, 2008 4:52 PM

I keep reading about the glass table for the dining room. Didn't anyone see the stained long table Jen had Trish repaint a "high gloss white?" That's the dining table. They showed the final product on the show. The chairs were dark? It was nicely done. The glass table was in another area.

Anyway, I liked both results and have a hard time deciding. Both listened to their clients. The white sectional was washable. I grew up with a white leather sectional in the family room. My mother, well, all of us seemed to keep it clean. We used leather cleaner and a balm. There were five of us kids. This was in the sixties. Unless things have changed that much, I think the choice of sectional was just fine. I liked the minimalism with pops of the unexpected like the lighting over the dining table. I thought it was funny how the camera kept going back to the buddha. :-) It was as though linking the idea of the room to where many think it came from. You know, the zen -- minimalism thing. I just thought that was funny and sort of cute. Almost as though to remind viewers, subliminally. I liked the red cabinets. There was so much to like in both it is a tough call.

Posted by janice – July 28, 2008 4:34 PM

My vote is for Jennifer. Matt picked Trish because he needed some design assistance. He is good in construction but lacks Jennifer's style and creativity. It would be nice if they had a show together but if it comes down to one, Jennifer is more the person with the most talent and ingenuity. God bless both.

Posted by Bonnie Stokes – July 28, 2008 4:23 PM

My vote goes to Jennifer, her rooms actually looked liked a designer went in there, her rooms made more sense, her kitchen was worth a million dollars and I think the homeowners knew that. Her sectional area looked fine, I loved the floor to cieling tile treatment on the fireplace. I thought that her putting a see-through dinette space near the fireplace was a perfect fix, it allowed additional room for games and family time while allowing people to see the fireplace. I have to say that Matt's design was way too boring and unimaginative, his kitchen really lacked. Painting the kitchen cabinets all brown really was a poor fix, Matt could've done a whole lot more in the kitchen for the minimalist style, he could have used thick wooden floating shelves on the opposite side where it's all open. The cabinetry was all wrong for the kitchen. Jenn should win she'll do great in making inspirational rooms, she's friendly and whimsical. Whereas Matt is kind of more the carpenter and monotonous on screen.

I agree with everyone that both designers were good and yes far better than last year....Not too many David Bromstads out there....he stood out from day one in season one. I am voting for Matt....I think the producers could build a very diverse and interesting show around him...and yes WITHOUT those aweful caps and rags on his head. Jennifer actually disappointed me in her choices for the living room...a white sofa with children?? and the focal point of the room...the fireplace....was left completely out of the design in the furniture placement....the TV should have been moved so that you could view it and enjoy the fireplace at the same time. HGTV...if Matt wins consider having Mikey on with him from time to time...that guy is a real wiz and very creative.

Matt and Jenn are both fantastic! I am happy to read from other blogs, that I am not the only one who feels strongly about them both having a show. I would want to watch Matt with his carpentry and design style together. It would over shadow the winner of design star to have both on one show. Have two shows! Matt's work is excellent but I feel the extra touches are missing from the rooms at the end of the shows. People, how rude can you be saying they aren't "top designers". They are designing, shopping and completing tasks on the fly, on camera and on minimal sleep. I can barely type when someone is reading over my shoulder at work 'cuz of the pressure of someone watching me! Get real! Someone else blogged that Kim Myles is out of her league. LOL! Please, she is my favorite! She incorporates ideas that are in our league so we don't have to spend a lot of $$$. That is her spin or uniqueness on the show. SHe is classy but does add some $$$ saving ideas which effect her overall room design. Sparkle Josh is hilarious. Never have I been so intune with a TV show and Vblogs! I worked in tv production for 2 years. I say Bravo.

Hey Sparkle! I loved you on DS 2 and it was so refreshing to see you again doing this. You have a way about that it is fun to watch. You might not have won it all, but you certainly won it in many viewer's hearts.

Okay, Matt and Jen! Well, neither my husband nor I found S3 to be nearly as riveting as S2. Nobody really stood out and nobody took too many risks. Having said that, I think Jen's final design was a bit better than Matt's even with her sectional faux pas. I expected her kitchen to look terrible but her risk really paid off. It stood out and blended at the same time. Matt's dining room shined, but I didn't think the rest of the space worked really well which is why I would give Jen a slight edge over Matt for this competition. I think Matt's work was great in past challenges and I am sure whichever person doesn't win will still have a bountiful career.

Thanks for reading and giving us your thoughts,

Karen

Gosh, Sparkle. I miss you! I hope HGTV brings you back!! Both Jen and Matt did a fine job, but I have to go with Jen. The red cabinets did it for me. Just enough and not over the top. If that was the first kitchen Jen ever did, she certainly aced it!

It's hard to decide who was a winner this year. Jen, did however, make a big mistake...I white sofa for small kids and a small table for the large family..but her cabinets where wow..Matt however, did take in consideration of Jen's problem with kitchen ...and gave her the benifit of Mickey..also .His design did seem to fit the family..look at the dinning room...I think they are both great and I would watch a show with both of them...but I will vote for Matt

Posted by Peggy – July 28, 2008 3:19 PM

I think both Matt and Jenn did great and really listened to the families . Jenn struggled with the couch a bit but in the end that was the right fit for the family . I loved the dinning room Matt did and that light fixture was so decadent . Matt , you were so sweet to offer Jenn to have Mikey V. first so she could get that kitchen plan done . In the end that worked out to both of your advantages . Keep up the good work . Sparkle , we still love ya and you make the commentaries fun to watch and insightful .

Keep shining Sparkle!!!! Yes, he should have his own show - many people LOVE glam., Hollywood look, and tons of sparkle - not to mention roccoco and so forth. Josh is perfect for that style.

I voted for Matt - Jennifer is cute perky, etc., but HELLO....... a WHITE sofa for a family of six??? Perhaps I missed something, but unless it was leather (or even (ugh) vinyl) and easy to frequently clean (which is a drag with that size family) it will show every spot, and be difficult to clean. The dining setup was totally insufficient...Red in a kitchen? Not for a small kitchen - one accent area perhaps but not cabinets...if they decided to sell, they would have to repaint them. Just these items showed Jen needs a bit more experience; her various teary episodes reflect a need for more maturity and control under stress!

Yes, Matt is minimalistic; however, his solutions for "problem areas" are brilliant...the combination of architectural, construction, and design knowledge is unbeatable...those who accuse him of being "too minimalistic" must remember that the "clients" requested that style!

We have enough "cutsey" hosts and "glam" hosts - I like Kim Myles and most of her design styles (yes, she is "cutsey" but so eager, clever, and mature - Jen is not in her league), but one cutsey host is enough...The "Color Correction" hostess has glam (and plunging necklines)but most of her styles (and colors) are a bit much. Candice Olsen is a league unto herself and perhaps the finest interior decorator in the business.

I agree with the comments that this year was rather "blah" - too many group efforts...Last year was better, and the year before was outstanding...Let's go back to the past and get some REALLY GOOD people on for the next "contest." Enough said!!!!

Never blogged before but this is what I chose to start with. Please please please do a Matt and Jen show! My vote goes for Matt because after seeing what he did with the beds in the first episode I want to see more creative carpentry and design but truly I wish I didn't have to choose. Jen is like a fun friend that you want to see again and again. She can't go away!!!

Posted by Christine – July 28, 2008 3:07 PM

This design won't be fair if you don't fix the voting section of the web site. You can't find the button to push because there shirt blends in with the button. I almost gave up.
Please fix it soon as possible!!!!!

Hi Sparkle! This was a really tough one because they are BOTH incredible designers, and I wish I could vote for both of them. Matt was so considerate and really nice in his comments as to who he chose for his helper and why - for that alone I would vote for him, but I think Jennifer went that extra mile with all her personal touches set around. And the reaction of both the owners kind of told the story. You could tell they were blown away! So Jen gets my vote, but I sure hope they find a place for Matt, because he's sure worth it, too!!!

Posted by Pat J – July 28, 2008 2:53 PM

From the start, Matt had a fantastic combination -- vision, creativity, and ability. He consistently got it right. Additionally, he has grown more comfortable with the camera. Jenn is talented, but I'd like to see her get a couple more years under her belt. I feel experience would help eliminate some of the "melt downs" we've seen.

Posted by Bob – July 28, 2008 2:46 PM

I was so happy to see I wasn't the only one that wanted both finalists to win. Each has such great qualities both professionally and personally that I would love to be able to see both of them in a show either of their own or together. How about an hour show with 3 rooms to be done - kitchen (Matt), living room (Jenn), and bedroom (together). And since Jenn now has kitchen experience, eventually she can do the kitchen. Anyway, love these two and the fact that you did the New Orleans show. Nice touch.

Posted by Aunt Dor – July 28, 2008 2:32 PM

We also do not watch Kim Myles, we do not like her, her attitude, her design stinks, she certainly is no designer.

Posted by donna – July 28, 2008 2:30 PM

To begin...I agree with nearly everone else stating HGTV should find a place for Sparkle Josh. He is just a pleasure to watch, and his warm heart just comes through. I am voting for Matt, as he does listen to the clients, and really pays attention to detail. He doesnt seem to get rattled when the little things go oops. He stays calm, and focused, and is very organized in his planning as well. He is great on camera. Friendly, without the cheesiness, a regular guy. Jennifer did well, and altho I wasnt big on the red cabinets, it did turn out well. She pretty much stays within the box, and doesnt seem to have much range. I also think she is a bit scattered, and goes in several directions at once, which makes it a bit chaotic toward the end. She has a bubbly pesonality, but I think that could get old after a bit. Too much cheesy.

Posted by Cryss Hill – July 28, 2008 2:27 PM

Love you Josh, hope you will be continuing on with comments with HGTV. The challenge was quite a bit for them both and they did execute them well with real work time, shopping, coordinating and the design for both had their pluses and minuses. I do wish them both the best and it seems hard to decide who to choose I feel like I am cheating on the other. I do favor Jen the the most because I think she has a better talent in actually executing her design. But I will vote for both.

Posted by Meliniece – July 28, 2008 2:26 PM

What an uplifting final challenge. The families seems truly thrilled and appreciate of their redone spaces. I think the best part was the chemistry between Matt and Jenn. When he gave her Mikey V.to help her out, that was so special. I think that was a message to HGTV - have them host a show together. There chemistry is terrific, and they're both talented as well as nice (which was a muct-to-be-desired trait this season considering all the bickering and back stabbing). It was great to see Mikey V. and Trish get to come back an help out. Those four were my favorites all season! I cringed when Jenn said red cabinets, but they turned out to be the highlight of the project - they looked great. I loved Matt's centerpiece in the living room and the sparkle chandelier - both great choices. I loved both houses and hate to see either one lose, but I'm going with Jenn. She's a bit more creative and has a great hosting personality.

I loved both designers but in the end I thought Jen listened more to the family's needs. The kitchen with the red cabinets rocked. I thought Jen's kitchen was gorgeous. Matt's dining room didn't fit such a small family and the painted cabinets in the kitchen looked blah. Jen's fireplace was a great feature in such a horizontal space to take your eyes up. The white leather sofa was huge that it made the TV look small. I vote for Jen but agree that I would like to see Matt somewhere.

Posted by Helena – July 28, 2008 2:14 PM

We need different judges!!!!!!!! I'd much rather see George Gray and Joan Steffend along with Vern Yip. Those other two women are clueless - they're designers? I think not.

Posted by Nanaofecho – July 28, 2008 2:09 PM

My husband and I are voting for Matt. He impressed us in the very beginning with the wonderful bedding solution (5 beds in 1 small room?). Each week we saw how creative he could be with the challenges the rooms and sometimes clients (his parents) gave him. I loved the rooms in the final episode. He gave the family exactly what they wanted. The wife said she was a minimalist and that's what Matt gave her. Though she didn't want too much "fru fru", the accent pieces he used made great statements...the red chairs in the living room, the chandelier in the dining room and the great appliances and built-ins in the kitchen. I would love for him to redo any room in my house! I would feel totally comfortable.

Posted by Traci – July 28, 2008 2:04 PM

Go Jen! I absolutely loved the red cabinets. Not something I would want for my own kitchen but I can see a saucy lady from New Orleans with a red kitchen! I loved the way she listened to the client and gave her exactly what she wanted and in a professional way. I love Matt's personality, but I'm not into minimalism. Either one would be a wonderful host -- but Jen, You've got my vote!! Good luck and can't wait to see your show! Also, Sparkle, can't wait to see your show too!

Posted by JYT – July 28, 2008 2:03 PM

HGTV,

Are you listening to your viewers? Sparkle Josh is a talented, sincere, and refreshing new talent. He is a beloved person by so many fans of your network. You should seriously consider giving him a well-deserved place among your designers.

Thank you , too, for introducing us to Matt on this season's Design Star. He is not only tremendously talented, but one of the most thoughtful designers I've even seen. He is also very confident in his abilities. That confidence puts him way out front for me. He will be such an asset to the lineup when , hopefully, he wins.

Posted by Kellye – July 28, 2008 2:00 PM

HGTV needs to listen to America. We all can't be wrong - let there be 2 winners. Instead of one winner whom then gets paired with an unknown co-host, why not let them co-host? They work well together, have great on-air personalities and smiles, and both bring different ideas to the table. Love the show.

Posted by Holly – July 28, 2008 1:49 PM

Hey Josh, I wish you had your own show I love your designs and yes Sparkle is the new black!!! I loved Jen's kitchen the red cabinets were beautiful but the rest of the house was just ok. Matt's diningroom was very striking but I hated those brown kitchen cabinets..I know he had problems with the stain, but brown yuck.

This year was basically a repeat from the prior seasons. All three seasons had a "villain" it was easy to dislike as well as a couple who were just so strange it was obvious they were going home. Now we are left with two great people full of ability and desire to do well. Just like the first season's David and Alice, we have two finalists who would be greater together than either could be alone. How can you choose between them? HGTV, PLEASE change your setup and make Mike and Jen a team!

Posted by Ringer – July 28, 2008 1:43 PM

I am sooo relieved that there are other people out there who refuse to watch Kim Myles. I agree that she is way out of her league and I purposefully turn the channel (which I believe is perpetually set to HGTV for 24/7!) when her show comes on. I can't wait for them to cancel her show! But - with regards to this season - I throw all of my votes to Jen! She has the artistic ability like David (Season 1) and has a great handle on time management, dictating jobs without sounding snobby, and has a fabulous on-screen personality. She also incorporates things that are easy for a typical do-it-yourself person to tackle. Great season ending show. Thanks also goes to the numerous police officers and firefighters not only in New Orleans, but around the US! We can never thank them enough!

Posted by HGTV Addict – July 28, 2008 1:33 PM

I think it showed a lot of class when Matt gave Jen Mikey V first so she'd have someone with kitchen experience to help her.

Posted by Eric – July 28, 2008 1:22 PM

I love both Matt and Jen and like some others would love to see them host a show together. In the last episode, when Matt had first pick between Trish and Mikey V, he picked Trish. He stated that Jen hadn't done a kitchen and she would need Mikey V's help with the kitchen. He put Jen's needs before his own, and on the final challenge. Matt gets my vote.

Posted by Michele – July 28, 2008 1:13 PM

I love them both I think Matt spaces need more bling! Jenn is very creative and I love her paintings she does on the walls. Matt and Jenn show would be great!

Posted by Heidi – July 28, 2008 1:12 PM

Both candidates are fabulous. A show with both as host....hmmm... yeah, I vote for that! But if I had to choose (and I guess I do) I vote for Jennifer. I think her sense of style is fantastic.

Remember Matt and Sherry,"Room by Room?"....that worked very well and since there are two contestants that are both winners, Matt and Jennifer....Come on HGTV...that pair would make an awesome show! (In my opinion, though they are very dfferent in style,David and Alice would also have made a terrific show) I know it's a contest which decrees that only one contestant can win..but if you really want to please your viewers HGTV,and I'm getting this from all the comments written in, you will end up with a Winner by featuring two very talented designers. Also,I'm tickled someone had enough sense to keep Sparkle Josh involved...he is a sweetheart!

I loved the show last night. My truly favorite one of all. Boy, how do you decide, when there is so much chemistry between the both of them. Matt and Jenn are so complimentary of one another. I think they both did an excellent job on the homes. I would say that I have to agree with alot of people, they need a show with the both of them on the same one. The Matt and Jenn Show would be so fabulous this year. And by the way, HGTV, give "Sparkle" a job doing something, he is so camera friendly and so warm hearted. Our world needs a "refreshing" personality. Good luck Matt and Jenn.

Posted by Penndelgirl – July 28, 2008 12:51 PM

They both have sweet personalities and I loved the way Matt expressed how "blessed" he was instead of lucky (luck has nothing to do with it), but I have to say Jen brought it home everytime with her creativeness & artistry. If I were to need a room done, I'd have to pick Jen & I think she has the ability to keep our attention with her own tv show. However, they both rock.

Posted by dma – July 28, 2008 12:39 PM

I really like both Matt & Jen, and HGTV will be the loser if they don't find something for the non-winner to do also. Matt was so gracious in the way he chose Trish to help him on the first day. Jen really did need Mikey's help first. I think both Matt and Jen showed great attitudes and teamwork throughout the competition. (I liked all the contestants except Tracee.) I love David's show and Kim's show, and I'm glad Alice wasn't forgotten. Love you too, Sparkle!

Posted by Bev – July 28, 2008 12:37 PM

I love both designers! How wonderful it would be to have a show with both! They both seem so kind and seem to genuinely like each other. A show with both of them would bring such a great balance to a show and a room. How fun would it be to watch the two of them working rooms out. Loved Jenn's red cabinets, Loved the oriental piece for the television, BUT that white sofa was so wrong! Seemed she knew it after the fact. Loved Matt's furniture choices and his kitchen. What pressure to perform under and both did it with great style!!!

Posted by Tamara Grall – July 28, 2008 12:19 PM

I must confess I had forgotten about Sparkle Josh from last season but seeing his vlog I think he should definitely be the next design star. Sadly both Matt and Jennifer, while appearing to be very nice people you would probably like to know, aren't top notch designers. Won't vote for either because I feel they are both below average. Please give us more high class designers next time as well as challenges that make sense.

Posted by patty – July 28, 2008 11:58 AM

This last competition was great! Both rose to the challenge of their spaces. Both were very professional, intutitive, and intivative with their designs. Overall, I have thought Matt had that "something" that lead me to vote for him. I too, wouldn't mind seeing both with a show because Jenn has a tremendous talent as well.
Sparkle, I'd have voted for you if you had made it to the end. HGTV should have a great place for you. I know I'd tune in to watch not only the new one but the rerun through the week because I know I'd see something each time that I had missed at first. Keep up the good work.

Posted by Britni – July 28, 2008 11:55 AM

I loved Jenn's red cabinets in the kitchen. When she first said red I screamed NOOOOO! But what a statement it was a great way to get color into the home which the family wanted. Some of the blogs critizied her for not being more bold in the living areas but the rooms looked small and I don't think they could have handled a dark or bold color. Another blogger said the eating area with the glass table was a waste but this family is huge! They needed the extra eating space and I think it's a perfect place for another small table and chairs...right off the kitchen. As for Matt, I think he's great too. I didn't like the painted cabinets in his kitchen...they didn't show well on TV and it looked like they clashed with the counter top. I did love the dining room but wish he used nicer window coverings like roman shades. Jenn gets both my vote and my daughter's. Enjoyed the season and think a winning show for next season would use both Matt and Jenn together.

Posted by Susan – July 28, 2008 11:46 AM

2 crazy, talented gems. Love them both. But, Jen keeps missing the details like those catches on the sofa. And that just nags at me. Then she has the melt downs. No, No, NO! And white leather with kids!?! OMG!! Nothing cleans THAT good; trust me. I know. I've got 10 grandkids and they're well behaved,(really w/this Memomma they HAVE to be), but folks.... Matt responds to a problem w/solving and gets on w/it. Picks it up and goes. And I like that he listens to the client and really wants to make it about them and not about showcasing him. That may cost him points w/the audience, but that makes him a true star w/me.
By the by Sparkle, you are such a love. You'll always be the highlight for this Southern Belle.

My whole family, including 9-year-old twin boys, enjoyed watching this season. I picked Matt out in the first show and I am happy he did an awesome job for the final design project. Jennifer did a great job, too, and I think a shared show would be cool. Wish HGTV could have done that for David and Alice from the first season!

Posted by Gina – July 28, 2008 11:23 AM

Matt and Jen were both great and gave the clients what they wanted, especially Matt who's family wanted plain and simple and no clutter. I think it was great. Jen's room was great too but too many RED cabinets. They are both very good and should be paired together in a show. They personalities are easy to watch and Matt can do the carpenter work and I heard Jen say she couldn't do that part, in the beginning of the season. Love them both!

How about the Matt and Jen show. They are both terrific and would make a great show together.

HGTV will be missing a great opportunity if they do not give them a combined show. They work well together. That was evident from the beginning.

I loved, loved, loved the red kitchen and the fact that Jen really paid attention to what the family wanted....Both, Matt and Jen could have used even more color, but I was pleased that this last competition was for such a worthy cause. New Orleans still needs for all of us to continue to help.....HGTV redeemed itself by this Design Star episode.....LOVE, LOVE you Sparkle...We have got to see more of you!! Good luck to each. You both have been class competitors.

Posted by Ann – July 28, 2008 10:59 AM

Wow! I love them both! But, I think I will vote for Jen because from the beginning I liked Matt and thought he was a real contender. In the beginning, I didn't think Jen had what it took to be, "like" a designer. By the end of the series, she had "like" evolved so much. She does have what it takes - she proved herself. The producers just need to work with her a little and she needs to eliminate the use of the word "like" is every other sentence. But, I feel she was most improved from begining to end. However - I LOVE Matt as well. I would watch a show from either of them. I don't watch Myles of Style -- boring -- and I don't watch Color Splash -- don't like David's personality. So, I am anxious to see who wins this season and what the show is like.

Posted by Trish – July 28, 2008 10:57 AM

I think Matt really "hit" my style--I learned a lot from him and would definitely watch his show--I LOVE all HGTV shows except 4--I refuse to watch Myles of Style--didn't like Kim at all, as a designer or host--there were many better candidates--also don't watch Gardening by the Yard--the host is too stupid and it is a shame--he could be a good teacher if he left his type of humor out--don't watch Spice up my kitchen--medium income people just can't afford this--same for spice up my bath---ALL the rest, I just love---as for you, Sparkle, I'd love to watch a show by you too--you have a flair, maybe not mine, but great insight. And I still love Alice from the first show.

Posted by Sharon – July 28, 2008 10:54 AM

Both Matt and Jen are great designers. Enjoyed every show this year. Hated Tracee. Too bad judges could not see all that we saw of her on tv or they would have sent her b--- home a long time ago. Jen should have never volunteered that she had never done a kitchen before. She lost my vote. Who wants to watch someone with so little experience. Rock on Matt.

Josh, I am going to miss your sparkling commentary!!! You are so fun and lively--you truly bring bling to the screen!!!!!!!!!! I hope HGTV will find a space for you permanently because you deserve a spotlight!! Matt IS the DesignStar this year!! I love watching and listening to him. He has an original, creative mind, and he speaks with true passion about his ideas! His final hosting was perfect!!! As far as the final challenges, overall Matt was better than Jennifer. Jen’s red cabinets were the star of her design, but the LR/DR was bland. The mother wanted fun and funky; instead, she got pale and neutral without any pizzazz. Matt’s built-in cabinets to accommodate the refrigerator and oven were great. I ADORED the red chairs in the LR! The DR was my hands-down favorite!! Everything in this room was perfect, and the crystal light fixture was the crowning touch. Matt can create, design, execute, and complete assignments. He is committed to his designing, and it shows. He has an endearing personality and works well with everyone. Jennifer has her talents--a nice smile, a cutesy voice, and she can paint, but my votes are for Matt!! Josh, I hope we see you again soon!!!

What was Jen thinking with the small table...the dad said fit 8-10 and a white couch with little ones in the house??!! I Loved Matt's design how it looked comfortable, pulled together and was exactly what the family wanted. We vote for Matt!!

Posted by Donna – July 28, 2008 10:21 AM

I will watch either of the winners but I am voting for MATT!

Posted by GJ – July 28, 2008 10:08 AM

Jen seems to have a better grasp of making a "statement" with a room, but I didn't understand why she chose two dining spaces rather than a dining room table that would accommodate the entire family. She seems to be able to find a way to turn wrong choices (the couch) into somethng that will work. Her designs always have that WOW factor. Matt has a unique way of coming up with creative architectural solutions for problems (the bed in the first episode and the solution for the kiln), but his kitchen in episode eight was somewhat bland rather than just minimalist. Also some of his walls were TOO empty, especially the bottom half, and the livingroom was not as cohesive as it could have been. Even with nuetrals, he could have given his rooms that WOW factor, but did not (except the chandelier). He is a fair designer, but my vote goes to Jen as a GREAT designer.

Posted by Trisha – July 28, 2008 9:59 AM

Sparkle Josh gets my vote! I want Sparkle to have his own show. As for the Design Star contest - I'd have to go with Matt. Both Matt and Jenn are great, but Matt won my heart.

Posted by Mandy – July 28, 2008 9:15 AM

Matt has it over Jen,hands down,,,,and she's annoying,,,I mean really annoying.

Posted by debi – July 28, 2008 9:12 AM

Clearly Matt should be voted the winner of this competition. Every thing he did was to accomodate the owners' wishes. The chandelier is awesome, the merlot walls were well received, the kitchen met the wife's needs and it is classy, and the living room is minimalist, but that focal piece is smashing. Jen, on the other hand, chose to paint bold red kitchen cabinets, and the other rooms were barely there. The cream tones gave the rooms a cadever appearance in contrast to the kitchen. The three rooms just didn't belong together even though they are adjoining. Her sofa decision was a disadvantage because she failed to notice the attachments. I would have liked to have seen some kind of pattern in the sofa since she chose the light colored striped?? wall painting. Also, very little wall art to add pop. I enjoyed watching both of them, and like other viewers, I would watch a show that featured both of them. Thanks for bringing back Mikey and Trish, two other great designers.

I agree with a lot of the viewers - choose them both and let them co-host. I actually enjoy Jennifers designs better, but Matt does innovative things as well ( like the moving wall in his parent's house). What a team they would make!!! So I am going to vote for both, but if there can only be one winner, I hope it is Jen. Thanks HGTV for all of your wonderful shows and inspiration.

I love both Jen and Matt. I wish we could have a show "The Stars" and that Jen, Matt, Trish and Mikey V could alternate weeks. I did think last year's designers were much better than most of this year's designers. Please, no more people like Tracee. What a child! I love your show. Let's get better people for next year.

Posted by Nancy Speeg – July 28, 2008 8:50 AM

Matt gets my vote. Both are likable and watchable, but Matt let Jenn have Mikey V first because he thought she needed his help with the kitchen. This is a competition and he didn't have to do that, but it shows how sweet he is! Loved Sparkle's blogs. Hope we get to see a lot more of him, perhaps on his own show!!!

Hi Sparkle Josh!

Win or lose, Jen and Matt can be proud of themselves for making it possible for the two families to return to their well-designed homes after Katrina's destruction; and thanks to HGTV for making it possible. It is a hard decision because they both have good design and presentation qualities, but I have to go with Jen because Matt's doo-rags really turned me off. I couldn't watch his show every day with those rags on his head.

Candace Olsen is my all-time favorite! Her designs are exquisite. I also like Carter's green approach and Lisa LaPorta's magic using little funds to make a big impact. HGTV is my favorite channel, and I watch it every day.

Posted by Berni – July 28, 2008 8:03 AM

I really like Jennifer and Matt the best out of all of them--I'm glad they made it to the finals. They seem like true, caring designers and I also think they would make a great duo. They do compliment each other and seem to get along well together. However, if I have to pick from one of them, I think Jennifer's designs have a little more personality and are more to look at than Matt's. Ever since Matt did his parents home (which I thought was totally boring), I noticed that he may be a bit too minimalist and boring!!! My vote is for Jennifer.

This is such a tough call. Both of their designs had strong and weak points. What it came down to for me was seeing how each handled the stress, and how they were in front of the camera. Their styles are different, Jen is warm, sweet and bubbly, Matt is calm reassuring and professional.I think each should get their own show, or as some of the other bloggers said, Tag team them, they each have their own areas of expertise.

I think Jen and Mat both did a great job listening to the families they worked for. While I think Jen's kitchen was hands-down better design than Matt's was, she had better bones to start with. It's easier to redecorate a square kitchen than a galley...I've had both. Jen's dining space was rather pedestrian compared to the exciting kitchen. White in a dining space a family will use every day? Uh, Jen--you need to spend time at your sister's house so you see how impractical that is. I thought Matt's dining room was absolutely stunning! Jen's living room area was okay, but too limited - ALL THOSE PEOPLE and they can only enter/exit the seating area through one small aisleway? Very poor planning, which she admitted as she tried to figure out how to position the sectional pieces in a more "user-friendly" way. And as other people noted, white furniture is not a good choice for a family, or even for most people's everyday furniture. And, unfortunately, while I thought the stripes on the walls gave visual interest, it also makes Jen a one-trick pony. Paint is NOT always the answer to making visual interest, no matter what the judges said last week with regard to not making a room interesting through "only" accessories. A VERY large sectional, a TV and a fireplace do not a family room make...SOOOO sad, because all along Jen has had great ideas, but on this challenge she fell short.

I really cannot cast a vote for either Matt or Jen because I think they are both simply great! I, too, believe that they should co-host a show. And give Sparkle Josh a show!!! He rocks!!!

Posted by Ann – July 28, 2008 7:37 AM

Hey Sparkle Josh, you are so special and a charmer! The previous are all good comments for consideration. On this last episode both designers showed strengths and some obvious design flaws. I think the challenge was monumental and with an unknown area in which to work and shop, as well as a new carpenter/helper, their work was amazing. Also, most redecorating allows for a peek into the rest of the client's "lifestyle" and their input into shopping, art, collections etc. 36 hours? Talk about an impossibe mission!

Posted by Charlie (girl) – July 28, 2008 7:37 AM

I also liked both designers, but I feel Matt has had too many problems with scale in his rooms and finishing off the decor. He's a great architectural problem solver, but I think his designs leave a little to be desired. He's a total sweetheart, though. Jen has creativity and a real ability to connect with people to find out what they truly want. I wasn't fond of the white couch or table, but think the finishes were practical for a large family. She really accessorizes just right - never too much or too little. Quite a talent. She gets my vote.

I love HGTV; however, with that said, I agree with many viewers that this season of Design Star was a huge "YAWN!" I just don't think the caliber of designers were there. With that said, I did watch all of the shows this season, and overall, I feel Jennifer would make a better host than Matt. I loved both of their designs in the end, but I just think Jenn has a better TV "personality."

Posted by Debbie – July 28, 2008 4:56 AM

Both matt and jenn are great, and why not a duo? They have really good chemistry, and balance each other. And Sparkle could be like Clive is on designed to sell.

Posted by Suzy – July 28, 2008 4:44 AM

I really enjoyed both Matt's and Jenn's tv personality, both truly likeable. However, I do think as far as design this week, Matt's came together a little more for me then Jenn's. I voted and will continue to vote for Matt because he has been consistent in giving his clients what they ask for and in thinking outside the box. Remember the 1st challenge? loved the bed arrangement idea, genius! And the ghost home, turning the white curves into a sculpture, totally brilliant. Even Thai templeville had something to it. And his hideaway kilm oh sorry crockpot coverup, clever! So yes, Matt is my vote. Lastly, but actually firstly in my book, Josh! Thank you Sparklicious for your ever funny vlogs! They gave me great joy especially in those needy times when the DS episodes weren't that great. I am definitely a SJ fan for life! I will be lost if you don't continue with more vlogs or something....Come on HGTV! We all could use more Sparkle in out lives. Hook us up, please!

Posted by Crys – July 28, 2008 4:38 AM

enjoyed the contestants, but would prefer mainly individual contests. Couldn't they do little areas? Since this is disign, maybe they should always have a carpenter to help.
End result was too close for me to call, should be a tie. Great move to bring in the 3 carpenters for each team. How about a carpenter, a painter, and an electrician next time?

Posted by kathy – July 28, 2008 4:28 AM

Sparkle, thanks for the great commentary throughout this competition! You ARE a star.
I agree with many comments posted here. My #1 choice, too, would be for Matt and Jennifer to host together. They are charming complements to each other and it would be fascinating to see two genuinely nice people work out design issues through give and take. Since I have to vote, I am choosing Matt just because I think overall he has been the better problem-solver, but Jenn's designs are more attractive to me from a color/texture perspective. In the final, each had high points: Jenn's red cabinets and Matt's dining room. Finally, I also want to second the note to producers to stop emphasizing the drama and play up the design on the shows. Some of the rooms I barely got a look at until I viewed them online. But I certainly got too many looks at certain behavior I found quite tiresome.

Posted by Jukesgrrl – July 28, 2008 4:16 AM

Jen is so sweet and humble. She and Matt are both great personalities and designers. It is obvious they work very well together. They would be a fabulous team. I know I would watch. Just can't imagine either one of them loosing.

Posted by Pat – July 28, 2008 4:12 AM

I vote for SPARKLE JOSH!!!

Posted by Cathy Wolfe – July 28, 2008 4:04 AM

I loved Matt's designs and love to watch to see what he might come up with next! I loved the kitchen! He mentioned that without the wall cabinets on the one side it made the space look bigger, and it really did--not so closed in! Loved the chadelier as well! I couldn't believe he said he would let Mikey go help Jennifer first since she had not done a kitchen before!! What a classy thing to do!! Matt has my vote!

Posted by ColoradoLady – July 28, 2008 4:01 AM

What happened to the Judge's? I know they are not going to vote but at least give us your perspective on the quality of the design. I liked it last season when the Judge's walked around the space and gave us their expert professional viewpoint. This year the season seemed disjointed. There were more team projects so it was hard to distinguish individual styles and abilities. I liked last season more so than this season though my favorite this season were Matt and Mickey. They were great, wildly talented and unexpected. Both designers did a great job in the finale. It is a tough one. But at the end I am considering all the challenges and voting for the one I think did the best job all season and had a great smile and attitude-- MATT.

Posted by NJI – July 28, 2008 3:48 AM

i have the perfect solution. in the twists of all twists hgtv could have the jen and matt show / matt and jen show. they balance each other out and it would be fun watching them dicuss their ideas on each new episode.

Posted by sharon – July 28, 2008 3:37 AM

Jennifer's red cabinet's really wowed me!! The white sectional was really what they needed. They both were great but I think Jen nailed this one!!

Posted by Brenda – July 28, 2008 3:33 AM

Overall Matt gets my vote. Both Matt and Jen are good, but as a master carpenter, I think Matt has more of an idea on how to put a room together. Good Luck!

Posted by Deborah – July 28, 2008 3:31 AM

First time I thought all the designers lacked the WOW of D.B. with every one of his designs being a WOW...and Candace Olson has the best taste Ive ever seen...but other designstar shows had some shows with awesome rooms, this season didnt. They all acted too safe or just didnt have the big wow in them. These two are great designers in their own way and would benefit from eachother...Jen being artsy and Matt being innovative....together they would be a smashing hit! Alone, I think they would have to have some staff helping behind the scenes...Matt would need to learn how to decorate and Jen would have to think about her clients needs more, not just color, the table needed more seating, even without the space, maybe a long bench seat to help seat more without taking room up, etc..something creative...the dining room sank. The overall look was good. Matt's look was good, just unfinished. Minimal does not mean BLANK.
Listen to the audience and make this one TIE!!

Posted by DaniLynn Trevino – July 28, 2008 3:20 AM

I liked both Jen and Matt's designs and on camera personalties, but I think Matt got to the finals because of his talent and Jen got here because she kept her mouth shut when everyone else had openned their's regarding a contestant that is no longer on the show and should have been sent packing long before she was. I think that keeping that contestant on the show and letting her be team leader was a bad decision on the part of the producers. I also think that it was in poor taste to show the clip over and over where she keeps saying that she had more design talent than anyone else on the show.

Posted by Rexene – July 28, 2008 3:14 AM

This season was just..odd. The judges viewed everything on screens instead of walking through the spaces. I don't think I was thrilled by any of the room designs, with perhaps the exception of Sara's suite. It did seem to be a tie in New Orleans. It struck me that Jennifer gave that enormous family a narrow dining table for 6!

Posted by PansyAston – July 28, 2008 3:12 AM

I liked both Matth and Jennifer's designs. I loved her red kitchen and it came together very well. I thought the painted stripes were nice but not bold. Why so much white in dining room and living room?
Matt did a beatiful living room and dining was great except for the windows. I think he spent too much money on the chandelier too, I can;t decide. I think they both can do an awesome show. I do favor Jennifer because of her amazing painting designs.

Posted by Rena Pezzto – July 28, 2008 3:10 AM

You got my husband's complete attention and that is saying something. We loved the final competition and it was most deserving and brought attention to the Katrina victims after 3 years.
Jen and Matt were excellent under the tremendous pressure and time factor. BUT I really loved Matt's work best and he was consistent throughout the entire competition. He is VERY EASY to watch and listen too. Good luck to both !

Posted by Terry – July 28, 2008 2:59 AM

I vote goes for Matt to win Design Star. He listened to what the family wanted but infused himself into the design. Jennifer's family said they needed a table for 10 to 12 people and the table she provided only seated 8 with no extra chairs. Jennifer also boxed in the seating area in front of the television and cut off the flow of the room. Matt throughout the program had innovative and creative designs that we the viewers can do at home. One final comment, WHY A WHITE COUCH WHEN THE FAMILY HAS KIDS?????

Posted by Leonard – July 28, 2008 2:55 AM

I was disappointed in last years show, but this one wasn't an improvment. I did cast my vote for Matt, I believe he has a more sincere tv presence. They would work great as a duo. They seem to play off of each other.

I think they would be better off giving Sparkle Josh his own show. Also,I believe if Alice had done a different type of room she may have won over David. Although, I did vote for David & would have him design a room for me anytime.

Heads up HGTV, pay attention to what your aduience is saying.

Posted by catherine – July 28, 2008 2:47 AM

Both Matt and Jenn have shined throughout the series. Matt is more practical and Jenn is more dramatic. They both are equally good and they compliment each other. Let the winner be the host and the runnerup the helper;like David and Danielle. They are both so talented and fun people to watch. I will vote for Matt and Jenn equally.

I have to say this is the first season I am having difficulty picking a favorite. The rooms were very well done by both Matt and Jennifer. They both gave the clients what they wanted and did it tastefully. The are both very personable on TV and yet they are very different personalities. I would watch either designer but think most of the artful tips would come from Jennifer and the useful tips would come from Matt. PS: Love Josh's comments online GO SPARKLE !!

Posted by Kathy – July 28, 2008 2:27 AM

I like both and I am voting for Matt. I think of Jen as more of a decorator with the constant "paint, paint paint everything"> While she has good designs Matt is much more versatile and more of my definition of a designer, I mean She had never even done a kitchen before the final. I think that says it for me. I am sure she will do well she is a warm and very talented artist. Matt has more nuts & bolts knowlege and good design and he is so calm and warm when he is on camera.

They are both great! I'm voting for both of them. they'd make a great team. tr in tx

Posted by trudy – July 28, 2008 2:17 AM

I loved both designs and designers so I agree that this is a hard decision. However, I'm leaning toward Jennifer because I think she had more design elements in her design and she seemed to give her family more of what they wanted and needed. Both Matt and Jennifer are so likeable and good designers though and I would be satisfied to see either one have their own show. Best of luck to them both.

Posted by Sherry – July 28, 2008 2:16 AM

This was a tough decision, and I finally decided who had my vote by looking back over the challenges, and which rooms I actually remembered. Jen's designs were most memorable to me, so she gets my vote! Either is deserving, both have the personality, good luck to both!

Posted by PJ – July 28, 2008 2:11 AM

I love both of them and it made it very hard to pick just one. I picked Jen I just love her rooms and think she is great. Matt is wonderful also but I can see Jens designs in my home and Matt is to contempory for me, good luck to both of you.

Posted by stacey – July 28, 2008 2:03 AM

I would love to see both Jennifer and Matt win and do a design show together. They have so much heart. They care and listen to what the client likes and wants. They both have the talent to make the clients wishes become reality with great style.
They also work so well together and I believe they would be awesome as a team with their own show.
I hope they tie so this could be a possiblity.

Posted by Maggie_H – July 28, 2008 2:02 AM

Loved both, but preferred Jen's more "homie" designs. They should have a show together. Much better than last years contestants.

Posted by Bev Hagadorn – July 28, 2008 1:59 AM

I liked both designs & I think that they had both of their families in mind. It would be great to see them both as design stars! They are alot better than the judges!! The judges are very opinionated and do not seem to give an ounce of merit to the viewers - as with all competitions we always see someone popping up to give us their views. I agree that the judges gave the whinner too much TV time & others as in Mikey V not enough time! Next year - let's get some new judges - Vern go home! - you always think you and your ideas are the best. Best of Luck to both Matt and Jenn - keep smiling and designing!! You're both the best!!

Posted by Sally – July 28, 2008 1:57 AM

Matt is the man!! Both are great and a duo show would for the first time be acceptable to me! All of the episodes Matt shined, Jen stressed, but they do compliment each other...maybe a co-host is unfair to Matt! I certainly did not like last year's show- and still won't watch Miles. Sparkle Josh, geez, bud, wish you well but just didn't get your styles either.

Tough decision, but I voted for Matt. He is a true individual and although his minimalistic style is not my fave, his creativity, concern for the client, and ultimate end result is consistently excellent. It sure doesn't hurt that he's so darn likeable! On the other hand, HGTV allowed this season to perpetuate an Amarosa-style season of The Donald's Apprentice by allowing Tracee, unpopular with most of America, to linger around way too long. Other good designers, worthy of contending further into the season, were booted while Tracee remained. What for? There was no way America was going to allow Tracee-Amarosa to become the next Design Star! HGTV is about design -- and the only drama should be in the end result of the design -- not in unlikeable personalities.

Josh ... I saw you in the audience on an older (?) episode of Cash in the Attic. You ARE a STAR and you need a show! Why don't you pitch HGTV for a comedic decorating with PIZAZZ show? I'd vote for ya.

Posted by Kathie – July 28, 2008 1:51 AM

Tough choice this year! I've voted in all three seasons. Because of all the bickering etc I put the shows on DVR so I can skip over the attitudes, tears and I want my mommies! I want to see the decorating, the shopping and the how to's and the oops'. I voted for Matt but agree with a lot of the blogs - they both should win!

Posted by NUSM – July 28, 2008 1:50 AM

Matt and Jennifer both seem to be wonderful people with great attitudes toward competition. I would like to see both hosting a show together. Both took into account each families preferences. Jen's RED cabinets are a WOW! Then there's Matt's stunning dining room light fixture! Oh such a dilemma...how about a tie.

Posted by Eileen; Seattle, WA – July 28, 2008 1:45 AM

Sorry, but I didn't vote for either. Jen's was just boring & her couch configuration didn't work very well. I was really surprised that she had never done a kitchen before & she should have known that you just can't pull a sectional apart. Doesn't she do this for a living?
Then when Matt said his favorite style is minimalist, well for me that equates to I really can't design so I'll just put a few pieces of furniture in my room & that way it won't be so obvious that I can't design. On this last challenge Matt probably wins. But his window treatments & rug were all wrong. Why does HGTV think we want to watch another new show with amateurs giving advice on design?

Posted by kk – July 28, 2008 1:42 AM

Hey Sparkle Josh,
Your comments were well spoken and boy, you sure sound a lot like an old friend of mine named Steve Webb, who was also sometimes known as "Crystal Chandelier!" How's THAT for sparkley?!
As far as Matt vs. Jen, I have to say, I too, initially like some other people, considered voting for both because they ARE both such strong designers, and I truly love Jen's wonderful, whimsical swishy wall art that she incorporates in her designs, but in the end, I think that Matt has what it takes to handle and produce consistently high quality, sophisticated, beautifully designed rooms; moreover, his hosting abilities are truly Flawless!!!! Both Jen and Matt will undoubtedly have extremely successful design careers, whatever the outcome as a result of this show.

Posted by Lizzie Snow – July 28, 2008 1:39 AM

Hey Sparkle!
So glad you are still out there sparkeling!
I voted for Matt even though I think he should have built something more than those kitchen cabinet surrounds. They were so good they looked like normal, nothing out of the ordinary cabinets. A co-host situation would work well with he and Jennifer. Hey HGTV - how about more time for the contestants to complete kitchens! And how about more footage of the designs as they are being built or installed? Great show, keep it going, just show more design and implementation and not so much drama.

Posted by Patricia – July 28, 2008 1:37 AM

I like them both. This is the first Design Star final that I didn't know definitely who I was going to vote for. I ended up voting for Jen because I think her personality shows off better on tv than Matt's and I like her design style overall better than Matt's.

Posted by Judy – July 28, 2008 1:36 AM

I loved just about all of the contestants this season w/ the exception of the *whiner* egomaniac (who I don't think should even have been there) & the *blamer*. (we don't need names)

For the final project, however, I admit I found Matt's design to be a little superior. He not only had the WOW effect but really listened to the family when he designed it. Jennifer did too, but she should watch what she buys a little closer & check it out to make sure it is what she wants. I also have to admit I found a white couch for a huge active family to be ludicrous unless it has some incredible finish that wipes well or can be cleaned.

I loved a lot of Jennifer's free hand scrolling & designs on the walls, but feel Matt seemed to be more versatile when it came to all aspects of the design process. I love that he thinks outside of the box like he does, plus he's from my state, CO :)

Posted by kathy G – July 28, 2008 1:28 AM

This is a hard decision. I like how both designers listened to their clients. Both families were very happy with the results. I will be voting for Matt. He seems to have more creativity (building the wall to hide the kiln).
LOVED THAT!!!!

So, here is my question, why doesnt Sparkle Josh get his own show or sit on the panel of judges?!! Sparkle, you can design a room or two for me any day!!! :)

Posted by Cindy – July 28, 2008 1:27 AM

Voted for Jen............there was no competition here, she's the real designer hands down! I do hope if there is a season four, that they come up with some better designer's, and not so many "spoiled" brats!!

Posted by Teresa – July 28, 2008 1:24 AM

WOW I am voting for Jen but Matt should have his own show too!! They both nailed the design challenges. I would like for Sparkle Josh to have his show....what were the judges thinking when they voted him off!?! We love you Sparkle!!!

Posted by Kathy G – July 28, 2008 1:24 AM

Both Matt and Jen are delightful to watch and are both wonderful designers so there isn't a loser in this competition. I agree that a show featuring both of them would be very interesting, but my vote has to go to Matt. A show featuring Matt's personality and imaginative designs would be more fun to watch, although I do love Jen's beautiful smile.
Great job, Matt! And Sparkle Josh...Tennessee is so proud of you!

I vote for Sparkle Josh to have his on own show on HGTV! Seriously HGTV, give Sparkle Josh his own decorating show. I would never miss an episode.

I'm voting for Matt. I love his personality and his interior design is always right on the money.

Posted by JL – July 28, 2008 1:16 AM

What I will most about this season of Design Star being over is the weekly overview from Sparkle Josh! What fun it has been to get to see him again. Loved Jen's red cabinets, but didn't like her dinning or living room. The dinning room looked incomplete without proper lighting or enough seating. Remember the home owner said he needed seating for at least ten people most of the time. I really liked Matt's kitchen, except I thought he needed something on the side of the room where he didn't put upper cabinet's...the framed picture looked out of place. Loved the dinning room; very high end! The living area was beautiful...he get's my vote!

Posted by Sandy – July 28, 2008 1:09 AM

Great finale. I loved both designs, but Matt got my vote. I think he is more complete than Jennifer. He is a Carpenter, Designer, and he seems to be very genuine with people. Jennifer is cool, but she doesn't think outside the box.

Posted by JESSICA Z – July 28, 2008 1:04 AM

Yes, the red cabinets were fab, but get over them already! Overall, throughout the entire competition, Matt was the strongest. He's more creative and innovative. Jen is great with paint, but HGTV already has two shows that focus on that (ColorSplash and Color Correction). Matt has fresh ideas and solutions. He'd be great to watch!

Posted by Tonispace – July 28, 2008 1:04 AM

I like the idea of Matt and Jennifer co-hosting! I thought of that tonight watching the finals and then saw that others had the same idea...listen up, HGTV producers!

Posted by tiger belle – July 28, 2008 12:57 AM

Sparkle...I truly love you and your smile.
Okay This year's winner should be BOTH. Them together would have me ALWAYS watching.
Matt is a genius! He has reigned supreme all season. Yet, I LOVED the last challenge and those RED cabinets are the Bomb! I am going to get my own cabinets painted red this week because of Jennifer, although I will have my eye out for Matt's Chandelier! hee hee
I am Praying for a Tie! I LOVE them both!
And, always wishing for Sparkle Josh to have his own show like the Stagers...That would just Rock my world!

Posted by Cheryl St. Germaine – July 28, 2008 12:56 AM

Did anyone notice the $2 "patio," roll-up blinds Matt put in the same dining room as the crystal chandelier? The vase underneath was another oddity, I thought. His strength seems to be carpentry, not design. I think he should be the carpenter sidekick on Jennifer's show.

Posted by Jen – July 28, 2008 12:53 AM

I just love both of these guys.I think the voting is going to be very close .I say keep them both.

Just rated Jen's kitchen. Loved the cabinets and countertop. Didn't like the brown paint on the walls and white tile floor. Grey would have looked better. This is the kitchen they should have done in that earlier show when they gave that poor family such a boring kitchen, I remember the homeowners in that episode liked red too!

Posted by Rina – July 28, 2008 12:38 AM

This is a tough one!! I too like them both hmm what would happen with a tie? I really liked the stripes, tiled fireplace and kitchen Jennifer did and Matts' dining room was fabulous. They both appear genuine and have great TV personality. Either one will be great!!

Posted by trekrider – July 28, 2008 12:33 AM

I agree with most! I want to see atie with Jen and Matt co-hosting a show!! They are both so great and truly compliment eachother. I honestly can't decide!!!! There are plenty of shows that highlight designer and carpenter.

Posted by jodi lavigne – July 28, 2008 12:31 AM

Both Matt and Jen are talented and quite likeable. While I think it's a "toss up" as to which designer I might use to decorate my home, it's very clear to me which I would rather watch on HGTV. That would be Matt. He gets my vote.

However, I must take this opportunity to say that I thought this series was HORRIBLE!! I am a huge HGTV fan, but I thought that the HGTV Design Star III Judges (and/or the Producers?) seemed more interested in playing up high drama than high design. Listen up HGTV: Your audience demographics are different from those of the typical "reality" shows. Treat us with some respect. Cut the dramamtic "banging door", the over-dramatization, and the holding onto overly-emotional or combative contestants just to increase the shows drama.

Posted by Jim from Indy – July 28, 2008 12:30 AM

I'm going to vote for Matt because his designs were good from the first challenge and he shows that he cares about his designs and the people he is designing for. I liked his dining room the best and he paid attention to the wishes of the family he helped. He also seems to have a better "on air" personality then Jenn. She comes across as not genuine. I'm sure she is very genuine, but it does not show in her on screen personality.
Overall, I'd say that this season's designers lacked the "Sparkle" we all love.
Give Sparkle Josh his own show. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I think he is a star!!!!!

Posted by Renee – July 28, 2008 12:30 AM

i really, really liked the designers this season -- with the exception of tracy. she was such a whiner, always blamed everyone, and in general just had a bad attitude.

matt and jen are both good, but i prefer matt.

Posted by annie – July 28, 2008 12:28 AM

Sparkle, you are awesome!! I would love for you to have a show. It's a tough choice this year. Both Matt and Jennifer are strong designers who are excellent on camera. I'm going to vote for both of them. I liked Matt's dining room, except I would have would have hung some silk panels instead of the shades.

Posted by Cindy – July 28, 2008 12:24 AM

i like Jennifer!!! she is so cute!!! sparkle i wish u would won last yr!!! but heck looks like u are doing better than the person who won!!

Posted by jason – July 28, 2008 12:22 AM

I think both Matt and Jennifer were great. They both deserve to win. But in the end, I voted for Matt. I think he's a little more versatile. Jen does pretty much the same thing every time. I hate the minimalistic look but Matt gave the owners exactly what they wanted and that's what it's all about.

I went with Matt because of his overall performance for the season. The final was an excellent choice with HGTV deciding to really help people in need. Both designers did well with a few flaws and yet the obvious success of red cabinets for Jen and a stunning light fixture to accent the dining room for Matt. Jennifer's dining area lacked anything memorable and Matt's kitchen needed open shelving on the side without cabinets. Both have a winning smile and personality, but Matt is much easier to listen to. Either will probably be groomed into a successful show next season.

I loved Jen's design. My vote goes to her 100%. I have always thought red in a kitchen would be great but never had the courage to do it. It's wonderful. The rest of the house was perfect for that large family, too. Matt's was good but a little boring although I think that was what those folks wanted.

I truely love both of them.....yes, PLEASE PLEASE keep Matt and Jenifer....let them co-host together.

Posted by ArteDar – July 28, 2008 12:16 AM

I loved watching all three seasons of Design Star. This is the first time I have voted for anyone on any reality show. It was a very difficult decision. I voted for Jennifer because I loved her unique wall treatments just as I loved David's (Season 2)ability to paint. However, Matt is also very talented. I would love to see them co-host a show or both have their own shows if the vote is close. They're both people I would enjoy watching. You rock too, Sparkle!

This was a very difficult choice to make, both designers did an awesome job and I love them both as warm and talented people. I was disappointed when Trish was eliminated, but have no idea who else should have taken her place. I will probably vote for Jen, because I LOVED the red cabinets and the way she really listened to what the family needed.
GREAT JOB TO BOTH OF THEM, but we can only choose one.

I feel that I would have to vote for Matt because he was so compassion and into the lives of who he was design for. He made me feel that he was into his design. Most the designers this season were to much into themselves and I thought that Matt cared about his design and the people. I think this is really important. In our communities people don't care for others and what they love. He does this is important in my eyes!!!

Love them both. I think HGTV would do well to have them co-host a show!! They seem to get along and they both bring talent and interest and joy to the screen. I want them both to win!

Posted by swooper – July 27, 2008 11:58 PM

Matt got my vote because of the dining room and the furniture layout. Jen's seating design was awful. I have 10 folks in my family and having everyone on one couch is too much togetherness. She jammed the whole family in front of a small tv. Jen's kitchen was great but for how long? That red is going to get tiresome. Matt gave his clients practical, attractive spaces.

Posted by Chris – July 27, 2008 11:54 PM

I want to vote for BOTH of them. What a choice! In the end, I will probably vote for Jenn but Matt deserves a spot on HGTV too. I had him pegged from the first episode.

Posted by Vikki – July 27, 2008 11:48 PM

Sparkle Josh you are so funny! And yes Sparkle is the new black!!! HGTV really should give you a show and let you go into Nashvillians homes and decorate one room at a time and start with me! Great idea don't you think? Me too! Call me!
Anyway this last show was great and almost made up for the boring season. Both designers did a great job but Matt really had a streamlined theme that flowed beautifully and seamlessly. I was unsure of the white sectional with so many kids and people living in the house in Jennifer’s design. Again the challenge was unrealistic but at least it let the designers really show their design ability. Too bad the whole cast could not have transformed the entire block of houses one room at a time this season. A worthwhile and more realistic project than designing from Michael’s!! I sure hope the producers listen to the bloggers, some really great ideas out there. This season was such a let down and that Tracie was not fun to watch at all. She did not make for good television, just embarrassing television. Bring the favorites back and especially Sparkle Josh for a show that decorates a different room a week with a different ‘would be” designer. For now I vote for SPARKLE JOSH!!!

Posted by Linda – July 27, 2008 11:44 PM

How nice that the final four seemed to really like and respect each other! I'm 2 for 2 in voting for the first 2 seasons, and this year I'm voting for Matt. I like Jen (and those red cabinets), but I like Matt's innovation and calm demeanor. Jen gets too stressed!

Actually, I would be happy if HGTV called it a tie and let them co-host. Matt would probably go along with that.

Posted by Bobbi – July 27, 2008 11:40 PM

I like both Jennifer and Matt and think they should do a show together. It would be a winner with his carpentry skills and her artistic flair. You can tell that they genuinely like each other too and their chemistry shows on camera. The new show can be called "Fine Design with Jennifer and Matt".

Posted by Denise – July 27, 2008 11:39 PM

Bring back Sparkle!!! That is what I want to see. All in all I think it is so hard to complete these projects in such a short amount of time. I think Matt has a great personality and I liked his design but I loved the way Jennifer's popped. They both needed a little more Sparkle though....

Posted by Sherrimac – July 27, 2008 11:34 PM

Matt is so much better than Jennifer! His final challenge was the best ever in all of Design Star. He so deserves to be the next Design Star. GO MATT!!!

Posted by Bob Dobalina – July 27, 2008 11:32 PM

Sparkle, I loved them both also. I will watch either, although I liked Jen's a little better. I loved the kitchen, the stainless appliances really popped against the deep red cabinets and dark countertops. Also, great choice of furniture for a lot of people and the details like the tile to the ceiling on the fireplace accent wall and stripes on the walls. I thought she filled up the space up a little better than Matt's space, although I realize Matt was going for the minimalist look the owner asked for. I thought the scale of the items on the walls in Matt's space were a little small for the wall space. I did like both rooms though and think either will make a great host and do some exciting new work.

Posted by Debra J. – July 27, 2008 11:27 PM

Very heart filling show this season.Great designs from Matt and Jen.I chose Matt because his designs are as always completely thought out.He is able to complete his projects with style.Jen is also excellent and I would not be disappointed if she wins. You go Matt!!!Sparkle it is good to see a home town person (TN) in the lime light.

Posted by Trish R – July 27, 2008 11:22 PM

Like both Jennifer and Matt. Agree that Jennifer's kitchen was great, and Matt's dining room with that spectacular chandelier a winner. The deciding factor for me was poor usage of space by Jennifer. Didn't like the 2 dining areas in one L-shaped space, I thought the small area might have been better served with stools at the counter and a reading nook set up. Matt's design side and Jennifer's artistic flare always come out, but I feel Matt has the edge.

Posted by Kate – July 27, 2008 11:21 PM

I had some issues with Jennifer's room. The white sofas with so many kids were impractical. The fireplace that was tiled was Mike V idea(he suggested that she tile it) and not Jennifer's, then the fireplace looked so good but it was not a focal point in the room. She should have put a few comfy chairs and a chess table or something so that the family could sit in front of it and really enjoy it. Instead she put some unnecessary glass/pvc dinnette set which just missed it completely. The dining room again was all white which with so many young kids in the family is so impractical. I loved her kitchen though! Matt will get my vote

Posted by Rina – July 27, 2008 11:20 PM

Sparkle Josh!!!
Its so good to see you!!
Sometime you'll have to tell us what you've been doing since Season 2.

I so like both of these people!!
I agree--There should be a tie and they could both host a show together!! They balance each other so well and pick up where the other leaves off.
I loved his dining room better and LOVED her kitchen!! They both designed for the families.
In my opinion (along with many others) they both deserve to win...
Are you listening HGTV?? You say you are leaving it to us...Well, what if America wants a tie??

Posted by Diana – July 27, 2008 11:19 PM

i liked them both, but jennifer brings a sweet fresh smile to the camera. they probably dont have to use lights she would shine thru anyway. i loved the red cabinets. the white table looked great dont normally like painted wood. but i cant get thru to vote and i want to go to sleep

Posted by Sandy Smith – July 27, 2008 11:15 PM

I love them both but I love Matt's ability to handle stress and his innovative designs. I go back constantly to him taking the manequin and turning it into flowers. I'm also from the Springs! They are both amazing but I love that his heart is so transparent.

Posted by Sandi – July 27, 2008 11:12 PM

Hi Sparkle,
Loved both designers work, but loved Matts living and dining room more. I voted for Matt because he has such a great presence on TV, besides he tugs at my heart strings with his genuine emotions and his great design styles.
Miss you and hope to see you more even after Design Star ends this season.

Posted by lucky grammy – July 27, 2008 11:08 PM

I don't want either one of them to lose. I love them both. Didn't feel this way last season, but this reminds me of the competition between David and Alice the first year -- loved both of them, too!

Posted by JT – July 27, 2008 11:07 PM

Both designers are so talented, but in the end it came down to who would I rather watch. For me, it's Matt. He is such a problem-solver, he has taken some risks, he can do the work himself if needed, plus he seems a little more natural in front of the camera. Jenn is fantastic, though. I have loved all the patterns she's painted on the walls, but it's kinda like Vern said last week--she's a "one-trick pony" in that regard. If she had a show, I'd think every ep, "What large graphic will she paint today?" and will every homeowner she works with even want that?

Posted by Em – July 27, 2008 11:06 PM

WOW! This year is really hard to decide.I think they are both great designers. Matt is one of the best but I think Jennifer nailed it this year for top design. She took everything into consideration that the homeowners wanted. She was stressed out about the sofa she picked out an she made it work.Shes a great designer and she earned it this year. I look forward to seeing more of her in new designs for HGTV Designs Stars new winner. I would love to see them both together designing, they worked super together to the very end. They cared alot about what the family,s really wanted.

Posted by Alesia Wolf – July 27, 2008 11:06 PM

What a great design star season!! The two designers we liked best from the very 1st show were in the final. What a beautiful thing.
Both Jennifer and Matt are what seem to us to be wonderful people but we can't wait to see Jennifer leave her mark on the rooms she designs with her fantastic painting, it is her signature and so special!! Good luck to both!

Sparkle Josh it's good to hear from you this season. You are a very likeable person and a good designer. When this years show started one of the 1st things we thought about was where you were. You were very entertaining last season, and really isn't that what this is all about? Us the viewer being entertained as well as learing new design and home improvement techniques we can try out at home and learning it from someone likeable who makes us feel comfortable and confident. How awesome is HGTV?... Very awesome!! Greatest Design Star Season yet. Thanks!

Posted by Connie – July 27, 2008 11:05 PM

WOW! Both were great. Personally, I think Jen will come out the winner(KS girl). She designed outside the box, I would never have thought to do.... RED cabinets...love them.
The living room was great for the entire family and that is what they wanted and needed. Come do my kitchen....Sparkle you were great!

Posted by Diane – July 27, 2008 11:05 PM

loved the red cabnets although it is in my kitchen! lol She stole it from me but in the end i voted for matt cuz he was my overall fav

Posted by season 2 lover – July 27, 2008 11:01 PM

Both finalists are great and undoubtedly talented, but I think Jennifer puts too much of herself into other people's rooms. She's very talented, but everything has to have her spin. Matt's designs are solid, and innovative in the construction, letting people make the room their own.

Also, I was struck by what each said about being a finalist. Matt seemed truly grateful for the experience and opportunities he has had to this point. By contrast, Jennifer fixated on winning, which was a little off-putting.

Posted by Kim – July 27, 2008 11:01 PM

ok....ABSOLUTELY L O V E D ! ! ! Jen's kitchen. The red cabinets with the stainless appliances was unreal!! Red is my favorite color. I have to say I was a sceptic when she said she was going to paint the cabinets, of all things, red. But they turned out FABULOUS. The striped walls... loved them too. Love the risks she takes... GO JEN!!
Matt... love you too, but overall I have to go with Jen. Good luck to you both!

Posted by MJ – July 27, 2008 10:59 PM

This was really difficult; I love both Jennifer and Matt but I voted for Jennifer. She not only did a great design for the kitchen but had great finishing touches. I would have liked more accent pieces with all of Matts designs. This season was a lot better than the second one.

Posted by Diane – July 27, 2008 10:52 PM

Was rooting for Matt, but his brown kitchen cabinets with black countertops were hideous, IMO. So I'm gonna go vote for Jen right now.

Posted by Taco – July 27, 2008 10:50 PM

It was tough but I voted for Matt. I liked his presence better and his designs are innovative. He doesn't follow through with the whole room, though. Sparkle Josh, you were/are more fun to watch. Hope to see you soon!

Posted by Laurie – July 27, 2008 10:49 PM

Jennifer got my vote. She is a natural on screen as well as creative...she makes any room come alive with her wall creations. Matt does well at carpentry...not as creative though. It would be fun to combine them as they compliment each other.

Posted by CHRISTY ANVILLE – July 27, 2008 10:48 PM

It's going to be JEN--her designs and art are impeccable! Matt has great spirit, too, but Jen thought more outside the box, and took more risks, while STILL listening to and utilizing input from her clients. They're both enormously talented...it was a tough call this time 'round!

Posted by Irenie – July 27, 2008 10:48 PM

Matt choose Trish to help him so that Mickey V could help Jennifer because she had not done a kitchen before. He is fantastic. Both are great people and while only one can win, they both are deserving. This is the first time it is a difficult choice. Those RED cabinets, WOW!

Posted by ccprice – July 27, 2008 10:45 PM

"SPARKLE IS THE NEW BLACK!" I love it!!!

I loved Matt's dining room, and I loved Jen's kitchen. So that leaves the living room, and I liked Matt's better. So I guess I'm voting for Matt. Also, remember that bedroom that he did and the way he hid the kiln. So, I guess it's Matt. But I love Jen, too!

Posted by Mary Ann Cobb – July 27, 2008 10:44 PM

Hi Sparkle! Overall it was JEN! I'm not a fan of red but boy I'd take those red cabinets anyday, they looked stunning with the stainless harware and appliances. Matt did a great job also, Loved the "Sparkle" Chandelier !

HGTV is supposed to be all about "us" the "viewers" learning new techniques that "we" can apply to our own spaces. Although Matt is a talented designer he tends to "play it safe". Jennifer, on the other hand takes risks. Risks that so far have really made her stand out! Her bubbly personality is viewer friendly and I, personally, would LOVE to watch a show featuring Jennifer teaching me how to apply all of her design tricks!

Posted by Pat – July 27, 2008 10:41 PM

I loved both rooms but, in the end I voted for Matt. I think his design choices were much better. Very minimal and I love that. I think both designers are very caring and great people.

Posted by Maribrth – July 27, 2008 10:41 PM

Every year it gets harder to pick the Design Star! I think both have their strengths; they would both be great hosts. It's so hard to decide!! Can't we have a tie this year????

Posted by Rosie McD – July 27, 2008 10:38 PM

Hi,

I voted for Jennifer. Loved the stripes on the wall! She seems really real to me and approachable.

Posted by Laura – July 27, 2008 10:35 PM

Jens was great. I think the white couch was good too... leather works with kids. easy clean. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the red cabinets! I really wish they would let the 4 best (Jen, Matt, Trish and Mikey V) host a show together. Can you imagine what they could do? WOW.

Posted by jennifer handke – July 27, 2008 10:35 PM

I would love to see a show with both Jennifer and Matt. They are both good and each such a sweetheart of a person. They both seem to really care more about the client than themselves.

Posted by Myra – July 27, 2008 10:33 PM

Loved Jen's kitchen, hated her dining room. Loved Matt's dining room, hated his kitchen. Both of them did nice living rooms but I preferred Jen's - it was designed more for how the family lived and I loved the Chinese cabinet. Going back over the season, they both had an equal number of hits and misses so it's hard to choose between the two. But I'd have to give Jen the slight edge on hosting ability. Maybe Matt could come and visit on her show - kind of like Mr. Green Jeans!

Posted by Sue – July 27, 2008 10:32 PM

I have to say this is the first year that I am having trouble deciding who to vote for. I agreed with Sparkle Josh's comments and loved both designs. Matt definitely had challenges when the stain on the cabinets and the red paint gave him problems as well as Jennifer's issues with the living room furniture.

Posted by Suzee – July 27, 2008 10:30 PM

I really love Matt & Jennifer. I think the final challenge I was won over with Jenn's idea and how it worked in the end. I did not love the elegant dining room that Matt did with the bamboo like window treatments, just did not work for me.

Posted by Pamela Smith – July 27, 2008 10:27 PM

Both of these fabulous designers deserve to win. They both seem like very wonderful people as well!

Posted by Kate – July 27, 2008 10:27 PM

One of the judges commented that this season was a millions times better than last season and I agree that the contestants are much better. Both designs were good, but I liked Matt's color choices, much richer, and what was Jennifer thinking? A white sectional for kids?

Posted by Cyn – July 27, 2008 10:27 PM

I'm voting for Matt, and it was nice to see MikeyV and Trish again. Jen is very talented, I just preferred Matt's overall performance all season.

Posted by mark – July 27, 2008 10:26 PM

I voted for Matt, but you will always be my favorite sparkly one. I hope we see more of you someday soon.

Posted by Patty – July 27, 2008 10:26 PM

I voted for Matt...But you are still the coolest sparkliest of them all...Hope we see more of you someday soon...

Posted by Patty – July 27, 2008 10:23 PM

Neither....bring back Todd or Sparkle...I would have voted for Trish...disappointing season. I loved seasons 1 & 2...hope they improve next year.

Posted by Julie – July 27, 2008 10:22 PM

Overall I think Matt is a better designer with a better on-screen personality, but Matt, please - stop wearing the DOO-RAGS on your head! ARGH!

I think most of the designers on this season (minus one arrogant one we'll not name) have good careers ahead of them, regardless of whether they won or not. Good luck to all.

Posted by atlantaguy – July 27, 2008 10:21 PM

Hey Sparkle! I thought both did a good job, but I liked Jennifer's better. She really had the family in mind with her design. I will vote for her and hope she wins!

Posted by Mae – July 27, 2008 10:19 PM

Jennifer and Matt are two of the nicest people I've seen on these reality competitions. They genuinely like each other and wish each other luck. Both are worthy of winning. Good luck to both.
