Since Design Stars, what has happened to the winner Jennifer?

Posted by sue – November 17, 2008 9:29 PM

Tiphany, I don't know if you got an answer on the salvage store in Nashville. It is Southeastern Salvage on Eugenia Ave (the street beside the Sears outlet store on Thompson Lane.) They have some great stuff and good prices too.

I think the nasty people who comment do so because they are unhappy people and do not belive in themselves. The comment by Shel, you wish you had half the talent of Kim Myles, if you don't like the show (STOP WATCHING)it is enough of us left to keep a great show like this going.

Did that Jennifer girl ever wake up and realize that she had won. Unfortunately. She seemed in a stupor when it was announced. The producers or whoever was in charge of getting this show on the air, really screwed up big time with this season. Lame judges too. I probably won't watch again. Producers, read the comments on the blogs about this season. It really sucked, as did most of the so called designers on it. You must think we're all stupid if you think some of us will continue watching this crp. No one will ever measure up to David Bromstad. The guy in finals with Kym Myles should have won and probably would have if he hadn't acted so completly over the top and got on everyones nerves - he was a much better designer. Oh well, over and done with now. I won't be back and I especially won't watch a show of jennifer's. don't watch Kym's either.

When will Jen's show air? It has been a long time since she won and we are all waiting...thank you!

Design Star is great..This season was awesome congrats Jennifer
Design Star should really consider a virtual game..I love this show...

I watched every moment of this season's Design Star. I thought Jen and Matt were wonderful. In New Orleans it was apparent to me that they complimented each other. He is strong in carpentry and function and she is strong in art and design. A show together could be the best of all. He is such a classy guy! And although I currently live in South Florida, I would love to see more shows from the midwest and more places that are not tourist or high end destinations LIKE PITTSBURGH!!! -- which is where I'm from originally!

Posted by Deb Shelton – September 21, 2008 3:55 PM

Congratulations, Jennifer.

We were rooting for you throughout the show. You deserve to have your own show on HGTV. I just wish those of us in the midwest could be on your show.

Congrats, again!

I agree with many blogs I read about Design #3.
I also think that Matt and Jen should work together.
With both of their talents together the new show might be fantastic.
I say might because I do not like any of Kim Myles rooms. I am very disappointed that she won.
She is also a little too excited and loud. She needs to tone down her presentations.
I really think that the homeowners should help her with her rooms.
David doesn't use any homeowners and is soooo terrific. I was so excited that he won. The quality of his work is so fantastic. Too bad Kim Myles doesn't come close with her show.

I think it would be great if Jen or any HGTV design host would actually work with homes/homeowners in the midwest. I'm so over the east coast and west coast home makeovers. Give us midwesterners a break--we need style, too! I would welcome any of them to come to my home in Abilene KS. We live on a farm in a home that was built by my husband's grandfather in 1924. It is a beautiful craftsman/prairie style home that really could use a designer's touch. Abilene has such a diverse history, such as the end of the Chisolm Trail and home of Dwight D Eisenhower's Presidential Museum. Plus we have some great people that live in this beautiful town of 6,000+. The architecture and history of the homes in Abilene are beautiful. Please come to the middle of the US and make our interiors as beautiful as our exteriors!!

Cant wait for the new season. I'm gonna do my best to try and be a contestant. I've even started my own site some of you might like. visit my BLOG @ daretobedomestic.typepad.com . It's like Martha Stewart, but way cooler and minus the jail part! Lates

I have a question and was wondering if anyone could help me. I watch design star, this was the first season that I have watched and loved it. I live in Nashville and I know that they were in Nashville. I was wondering if ANYONE could tell me where the salvage warehouse that they shop at is located at? If anyone could help me that would be great. If you know that name of it, that would help too. Thanks a lot!

Mikey V. wasnt there because of outside issues. apparently he participated in a gay porn and couldnt participate any more in HGTV stuff

I too spent an enormous amount of time trying to vote for Matt. I wanted to see what Matt would do with his own show!He is very creative, thinks of clever solutions to problems, etc.

Kim Myles show is ok. She tries to work on too small of budget and the result frequently is undesirable.
David Bromstad is unreal! Fabulous work every time!!! Real genius.
I too wish the contestants had better projects, more individual efforts, and realistic time limits.

Posted by NWatson – August 27, 2008 2:37 PM

I know there was a lot of drama on this show that was painful to watch, but I must say that when I was studying Architecture, it would have been great to have had a show like this to watch. In design studio classes, you have to present your ideas and answer to your choices, and it’s harsh! I had such a hard time getting a grip on how to do this, but feel that the barrage of presentations from this show would help hone any student’s abilities, and frankly probably any working designer’s abilities. Life as a designer is a series of presentations, and the more exposure doing and seeing you can get, the better!

I just wish Matt could also get a show… he has a great future though, don’t doubt it. Plenty of talent!

Posted by me – August 24, 2008 6:17 AM

The contestants this season were very inferior to the past 2 seasons. Jen can paint but she is far from a designer. Matt was the most talented contestant and a professional throughout the season. Jen was very unprofessional getting involved in the cat fight between Tracey and the contestant who had the heavy make-up, long fake fingernails and wig. I will not watch her show for that reason alone. Matt was the consumate professional throughout the season.

Posted by Mary – August 24, 2008 12:06 AM

Angel.. HGTV used to have a show called "This Small Space" which addressed the issues you spoke of. Maybe they will consider bringing it back.

As for Kim, I have watched every one of her shows. She just doesn't design for my taste and therefore there are none of her designs I would wish to replicate.

Specks of gold foil as art work? Embroidery hoops with plastic, Christmas ornaments or paper clips for light fixtures? Then there was the stadium seating in the guest house. The client needed storage, so it was put beneath. Don't we all want to crawl under wooden bleachers to store/remove our items?

On two separate shows I she put the dining room table up against the wall so that the end seat could not be used. Granted the table in the house could be slid out if needed, but the one outdoors was a massive hunk of concrete and that puppy isn't going anywhere!

My votes went to Matt sorry that he didnt win. Liked his personality and he looked good on tv.

Just in case HGTV is carefully reviewing these comments, I'd like to say a few things as a long-time viewer of EVERY show that has ever been produced for that network. First of all, I watch for design content that has practical application in the home or garden. I do NOT watch for backbiting drama among divas. What a waste of the viewers' time. I understand the concept of production crew time, but no real designer would rush through a job and leave it unfinished, so why penalize Stephanie for the blue tape? She would have gotten it off, had it not been for the artificial time constraint. Yes, Vern is pleasant when producing rooms for deserving people, but his designs have become predictable and as a judge he is harsh and arrogant...not his best side. Fashion designer Cynthia Rowley seems an odd choice for HGTV when there are so many others with excellent interior design capabilities (Candice Olson immediately comes to mind). Why did Scotty get the boot so early? I hate orange, but since it is so overused on every other HGTV show, it obviously is someone's idea of acceptably trendy...maybe it was his bow-tie? I was looking forward to seeing more of his work. I thought Tracee got a bum rap...one mistake and the editors (and Michael S and Trish) jumped at the chance to make "drama" at her expense. Stop with the over-the-top queens like Sparkle and Michael. David Bromstad was a bit much with his sleeveless shirts and body art, but at least he is a genuinely nice person and his designs are tasteful even if he does use a lot of Scotty's no-no orange. I had no idea Matt was gay and it doesn't bother me to find out now. I still would have voted for him if the online voting had been working. I think he'd make an excellent host. As for Kim Myles, I voted for her last year because the surfer blonde was obnoxious, but I regret it now. Kim seems too full of herself with little reason...her designs are pretty tacky and it is a chore to watch. I have to record the show, fast forward to the end to see the reveal, and then hit delete as quickly as possible. If Design Star is going to continue, please take a look at Debbie Travis' From the Ground Up. She sent the "let's form an alliance and vote off so-and-so" participant packing. I miss Debbie's talent and personality on HGTV. She has the good sense to be compassionate while developing new talent. HGTV, unfortunately, uses an air-horn and tired reality show alliances to create drama. Do you really think HGTV viewers are looking for those interruptions in design shows? I don't think so. Mostly, we want to watch nice people like Candice, David, Angelo and Lisa LaPorta show us how to have beautiful, comfortable homes. Well, thanks for the opportunity to express my opinions.

As I read all this stuff I get sick . One said you dont have to watch if you dont want to so why do you watch and then trash...Its a reallity show and thats how it goes. You know that up front , so hush up get a grip and if you dont like it turn it off. I love the show and will comtuin to watch it as I do davids show and kims which I love and have learned alot from , but I sure would love to see how someone would decorate an 540 sq. ft apt. where you cant paint or replace floors. I happen to live in one and would love to know how to get storage and have a place as nice as some of them I have seen. And I love vern, besides him there are only a few I would want in my house. Daivd , Kim and Jen are welcome anytime to do my place. Angel

I thought many of the challenges this season were a little bit too tight for the time frames... but Jennifer and Matt were definitely the two brightest stars we saw, and like other viewers, I would like to see Jen and Matt team up to produce a show! They seemed to play off each other more than we've seen in past compettitors. They genuinely like and respect each other, and do have similar styles. One enhances the other: Jen is better in front of the camera and has a wonderful sense of style when looking for the "warmth" factor; Matt is enthusiastic, and thinks so outside the box that he would add such depth to Jen's designs... think about it HGTV!!!! After watching the battle of the so-called "design stars" which debuted after Design Star announced Jen the winner, I think a pair of new designers is MUCH needed. Cynthia Rowley - - - pulease - - what family would have wanted that living room??? Sparkle Josh?

I watch the Design Star Program every year and love it. Glad that Jen won this year. She has great design ideas, and I look forward to her program.

Jen you got an easy style the rest of us can achieve. Expected more style from matt

Loved Jen and Matt. Couldn't they work together?
I think many would appreciate that. Please keep
them in the Middle part of the country -- KS & CO!!
I'm so glad that they were the final two. I think that
their choices proved you can be nice and still win.

Posted by karen Greenhalgh – August 12, 2008 10:15 PM

I tried to vote many times and it did not work!
I wanted to vote for Matt. How can it be a fair
vote when the process was flawed?!?!?
Matt is the better designer. He is also the better
host. He is more mature and seems better able to
handle stress.
I like Jen but she will struggle with hosting and
being creative every week.
Please consider hiring Matt for another gig. He
is quality!

I agree, keep Jen in KC. There are plenty of awesome things for her to showcase here in KC. I watch HGTV all the time, and would really like to see something done with the midwest. Jen is a great one to start with. Hey, HGTV, give the midwest a shot.

Hi Jen, I hope your enjoying all of the hoopla surrounding your win. I just started watching Design Star #3 reruns from the beginning. I just love the entire cast of Season #3 and I really miss everybody from the show. I wish everybody well out there in their designing world and I can't get enough of the show ... so I'm watching it like it's on a loop in my house. Jen I can't wait for your show to start. I know I'll be seeing you again but as for everybody else I wish there was a show you all were going to be on. I think you should all visit Jen's show from time to time, especially Matt. Well back to the show. Enjoy the rest of your summer everybody. You can find me with my paintcans watching my favorite show on television....HGTV's Design Star. >>

Posted by Paintcans – August 11, 2008 1:39 PM

Matt has more creativity and character. It was sad to see Jen try to put a spin on his generous act of giving her the carpenters first since she had no experience with kitchens, and she tried to make it look like a ploy for more votes. He deserved to win and I wish him all the best.

What happened to Homes Across America, my favorite show? Please don't replace it.

Congratulations Jennifer.
I would love to see your show consist of Matt, Tracy, Micky V, and Stephanie. There was something special about watching you all work together. Each brought their own talents.

Posted by cindy – August 10, 2008 7:48 PM

this season of design star was disappointing. but i am happy that jennifer won. i knew it would be her. there are a lot of people on HGTV that can build. she is not a full fledge designer, but decorator. the people on the show who were degreed designers ought to be ashamed, they were awful. matt and jen were the best. and they deserve to be the top two. i hope they will put matt as the builder on her show.

you did a great job Jen!!! woo hoo!!!! congratulations!

I just HGTV does a better job next year.

Posted by Sharon – August 9, 2008 9:42 PM

I also had problems voting in the first two days because the black boxes were not there,I emailed HGTV only to be told that maybe the problem was with my computer. This was not the case my computer was fine. I was only able to vote on the last 2 days and I voted for Matt, imagine how many votes went unaccounted because of this problem why didn't HGTV allow us extra time to vote since the problem was theirs. Now I know that I wasn't the only one to have this problem. HGTV needs to remedy this by letting us revote or GIVE MATT HIS SHOW ALSO. YOU MADE THE MISTAKE HGTV!

Posted by Lillian – August 9, 2008 7:50 PM

Leave it to reality television to completely miss the point. Why would HGTV leave the choice of next Design Star up to an audience of amateurs? Of course, America got it wrong and now very talented Matt has to go away simply because 85% of HGTV'S Design Star audience is female. Jennifer, as creative as she was, was no match for the innovative solution brought forth by Matt. But because stupid Americans make all of their choices based on emotion, and women support women, Jennifer, with her jerk husband, wins the sympathy of the no talent amateurs sitting at home. So unfair. Oh well, another promising series woefully lost to market research and stupid ratings. Is it too much to ask to have a professional panel pick the most professional and talented designer?

Posted by ksunlimited – August 9, 2008 9:28 AM

I have a memory loss here on Matt's designs. What episodes did Matt have that were stand out? I know Vern loved the bunk beds but where was the ladder? I know everyone loved the kiln cover but this week I saw a rerun of Designed to Sell where they did the same thing with a water heater. Is everyone looking at his website and not his DS work? The way HG is still showing his picture with the DS winner shows me that they have plans for him.

Posted by MsTab – August 9, 2008 7:57 AM

I'm reading all these comments about Matt and I'm thinking NO WAY....Matt was a good designer but I don't think he was original...That dining room he did, I think it was in New Orleans, was fabulous only because he splurged for the chandlier. If it wasn't for the chandlier with the WOW factor, it was just another by the book design. The color of the room bounced off the chandlier, that chandlier made the room. Matt was very predictable.

As for Jen, I think she was original in every task she took on. She was also passionate, which separates her from the rest. I think a designer has to design for the person they are working for, their style and lifestyle. I feel Jen accomplished that.

This season of Design Star was a disaster from the beginning. And the fitting outcome is that we can’t really trust the winner won fair and square because of the voting fiasco. My screen never had a “VOTE” button or a black button under the designer. Not Sunday or Monday or Tuesday. And I know what they looked like because I saw them on other peoples’ computers. The whole voting procedure was ridiculous!

With all due respect to the talents of the designers – and I do believe they all had “something special”; we just didn’t see much of it… The producers and HGTV are to be blamed for this shameful year. From the beginning they chose to focus on the “drama”, the backstabbing and the competitive, “killer-instinct”, “I’ll do anything to win” attitude. They created an atmosphere that at times resembled The Jerry Springer Show. Even the voice-over on the “promos” for the show set a tone of an overly dramatic tacky competition. From the earliest interviews with the contestants, they all had that tough competitive boastful attitude that reminded me of so-called “Pro” wrestlers. Some of them, practically grunting their words! I believe this is what the producers wanted and coached the contestants to take this approach. The producers chose to show these people at their worst instead of their best. Someone forgot to tell these people that a key ingredient to “star quality” is likeability. We as an audience need to like these people to watch them each week. If someone has their own show, the production staff has to like them and want to work with them in order to have a supportive team to keep the show running for any length of time. And let’s not forget - this is “design” folks! It’s an “art”! It’s supposed to be creative and fun. It’s supposed to “inspire”… HGTV used to be a place to go to admire creative people and become inspired. HGTV used to be an oasis for me to get away from the cheap tricks that other networks use to get ratings from the lowest common denomination of our society. HGTV used to take the “high road” – I suspected we were in trouble with that terrible “cliff-hanger” ending of the first episode… A cheap trick and very poorly executed!

The very small amount of creativity we did see this season seemed stifled… Perhaps the advantage and disadvantage of a Season 3 are the same: the designers had seen the mistakes made in the past and were afraid to take any risks and try anything new.

And then in the very poorly produced final episode, watching the montages; the contestants and we as an audience were supposed to look back at the season and remember it fondly??? It made me sick to my stomach!

I can’t believe the judges, HGTV, and Guest Blogger: James Bolosh continue to brag that it was such a great season… Did any of you WATCH the show??? You all should be hanging your heads in shame!

I have a background in both Entertainment and Interior Design – I saw very little of either in this show.

HGTV has lost a very loyal viewer!

Jennifer CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I picked you from the first show. I watched faithfully and couldn't miss a show. I usually don't pay attention to where people are from but I became a more devoted fan when I found out you were from the midwest and better yet KANSAS. You showed your talent, values and wonderful friendly personality of a fellow Kansan. I can't wait for your show!!

Posted by Friend In KS – August 7, 2008 11:55 PM

I agree that some of the format of the HGTV shows is getting boring. Why not come up with some unique, real life situations where decoration of a space could improve the morale and energy of the people who inhabit it? I have worked as a counselor in several schools that are in low income areas. The teachers' lounges, where they spend their 20 minute lunch breaks, are always dismal. Why not have designers compete to turn actual 12'x 15' spaces into functional, uplifting rooms which would revitalize these hard-working professionals for the remainder of their day? Other ideas might be designing a reading room at a community library; a town council meeting room; a Ronald McDonald house great room, etc. Instead of the the usual "reality tv" in which people show their worst sides, why not raise the level of character displayed in the media. Who knows, it might just start a trend!

Posted by Ditty – August 7, 2008 11:07 PM

It was a tough choice between Jen and Matt. I loved that Matt could build things. I loved that Jen could paint anything and anywhere. I think the correct person won. My husband and I WILL watch her show. We BOTH love to watch Design Star and we're glad there's a season 4. I wish Jen would come to my home and paint something in her special way!!

Posted by Laura – August 7, 2008 3:15 PM

I can't believe America voted for Jennifer. Uuuggghhhh! One thing IS for sure. I won't watch her show. Matt was the BEST hands down. His designs are classic and make a great statement. Jennifer can paint big flowers on the wall. Gee.

Posted by Kelly – August 7, 2008 3:08 PM

I thought the "designers" this year were just AWFUL. I wasn't wowed by anything anyone did. Bland bland bland. Snore snore snore.

Posted by Angela – August 7, 2008 12:50 PM

I wished Matt had won. I don't think that the voting was fair. Once on the internet and 5 times on the cell phone. Some of us don't have text included in our plan.Plus some people couldn;t vote on the first day because of the design of the voting system. Those votes got lost. It is unfair. I also think that you should not leave the judging solely to the public. With American Idol it was easy because we can hear the quality of their voice and see their personality on TV. With DS we only see a portion of their skills. This season we did not see a lot of their skills because of all the drama that was included. It was more of a soap opera rather than a design contest. The team challenges does not really showcase their skills. I suggest to have more individual challenges. In Project Runway and Shear Genius, you can tell the talent of each contestants because they work with individual clients. I don't see this in DS, esp. this season. HGTV put more emphasis on the drama. It is very disappointing.

There should be some input from the judges for the selection of the winner. Also changing the judges maybe something to consider. I like Cynthia Rowley. Vern is good too because he is a designer and has talents and experience. Martha is an editor of a fashion magazine. Throughout the season, I did not see useful input from her. Bring David Bromstad in. He is very talented and knows what to look for especially having the experience of being a contestant and a winner.

Posted by otro – August 7, 2008 12:39 PM

I was so glad that Jen won but I also loved Matt's work. There could only be one winner folks -- and that's the way life works too so, grow up!!

I was disappointed that Alice didn't win the first year when David Bromstad did, because I thought she was more articulate and was a great designer but now I wouldn't miss David's show for anything. I think Alice would have had a good show too but there again there could only be one winner and I accepted that.

I watch HGTV and Design Star for the ideas that I can use in my home and the ridiculous time limits on Design Star take away from the show, I think. I know that the network wants to see if the contestants can work under pressure but they are already under pressure! Set time limits but not impossible ones which could cause a good designer's show to be cancelled when it wouldn't have been otherwise. It's not who is the fastest but who is the best designer!

I really loved Trish too! I wish she could be used somehow.

So many of you are so hard on Kim of Myles of Style. I think she is adorable, comfortable in front of the camera, has lots of personality and totally DIFFERENT ideas that you can't find anywhere else. I love it! You don't want all the design shows and designers to be cut out of the same mold -- all alike. I am a very traditional decorator in my own home but I learned a couple of good tips watching Kim. She's fun to watch.

Thanks for another wonderful year of Design Star. I love watching the show and your network. Don't pay any attention to the people above who write so nasty about others and Design Star. If they can't give constructive comments in a respectful way then they should be ignored!

This show is Design Star, not Popular Person Star. Why don't the judges decide who should win? I think the credibility of this being a real design star & picked by whoever could make the most phone calls is ridiculous. I came to realize the judges see something in the designing & designers that I don't necessarily see. But the judges are professionals & know what to look for. I don't, I just know what I like. So please let the judges make the final decision. Or you need to change the name of the show since the winner might not necessarily be the best designer, just the most popular person.

Posted by GAIL – August 7, 2008 10:34 AM

Before the winner of Design Star was announced, I was torn, because even though I voted for Matt, I knew Jen was a winner too. How can you let Matt get away? His designs were beautiful and unique. I love Jen and I will watch her show but Matt was great too! How many votes did Jen have over Matt? Was it close or was it a landslide? I would love to know. Matt's dining room in Louisiana was memorable and I plan to duplicate it in my own home. Oh yes and I loved Cynthia Rowley's design between her and Vern. He is almost always my favorite but this time it was Cynthia!

Posted by Judy – August 7, 2008 10:02 AM

I agree that Matt and Jenn should co-host. Their areas of expertise are different and they have great chemistry. Ratings-wise, this would be a smart move for HGTV. I would watch every week. With just Jen, I'm not sure I'd hang in after the initial episode.

Posted by Heather Collins – August 7, 2008 9:19 AM

I also would like to see the voting numbers. Further, it would be interesting to see how the votes played out online vs text messaged.

I voted for Matt mainly because of his superior TV presence.

I agree with a lot of viewers that the winner should be chosen by an experienced panel of judges rather than by viewers who are for the most part relying on personality instead of true design and hosting talent.

Posted by KarenR – August 7, 2008 4:21 AM

It was so hard for me to choose between Jen and Matt, so i just chose not to vote. I truly liked them both. I'm happy for Jen that she's the new design star and that she'll be able to show off her talents. But i'm not satisfied that Matt didn't win, he has so much to offer. See, i'm still torn and i think Matt should get his own show too.:)

Posted by Amber – August 7, 2008 3:40 AM

I am very disappointed that Jennifer was selected over Matt.
In the first season of "Dancing With the Stars," the judges picked John O'Hurley and the viewers protested, which made ABC/Disney rethink and have the results based 50% on the judges and 50% on the audience.
Am not sure how the judges would have voted, but I fear that America didn't go for Matt because he's not the typically girly gay designer (i'm gay, so I can say that). Bottom line, his designs were far more interesting than Jennifer's. Her design for the family in New Orleans was very boring (white on cream on beige... yawn, except for the red cabinets in the kitchen).
I never much cared for her presentational style when she was doing her hosting duties. Am sure that she will have writers on her show and a director, et. al to tell her how to be professional. The same would have been true for Matt to improve his skills there.
There is zilch interest in watching a show featuring Jennifer on my part. Had Matt won I would have tuned in every week just as I do with Vern's "Deserving Design."
He was by leaps and bounds the most talented of this season's designers.
As has been said on other sites and blogs and in the media, HGTV is getting to be a tired and mediocre channel.
HGTV needs to shake it up for Season 4. Please get rid of Cynthia Rowley. Her design on the Summer Smackdown was embarrassing as was her get-up and hair. Painting that floor was absurd. The white Hollywood look had nothing to do with that family in Ohio. As usual, it's all about her.

I was very sad to see that Matt lost to Jennifer. I think Matt displayed all around talent in design and certainly blew everyone away with his stellar character. He was and is talented and honorable and should have been the winner. I likely will not watch Jennifer's show. Let me just throw in that I LOVE Summer Showdown! It made sitting through the finale of DS#3 worth while! Go Vern!!!

I can't wait till they start your shows up. Like many has said try to swing it where matt can work with you.. you too would be awsome together!!!!!! CONGRATS !!!!!!!

Matt or Jennifer --- is there a difference in their designs? I didn’t care if Matt or Jennifer won as I am not watching either’s show. I think Jennifer paints well but her artistic talent is not on the same plane as David Bromstad. That being said, if the producers are really, really going ahead with a show for Jennifer, then showcase her painting on walls and how to give a wall a 3-dimensional look. Maybe she can give us tips on how to do that, week after week.

As for the judges, Vern is responsible for setting the tone of the judges. His perspective on design is skewed. I thought he had design savvy but from his surly and rude comments on DS-3, I think not. His snide comments are unkind and cruel and certainly not helpful. All his comments did was make the contestants play it safe as reflected in the last showing of their designs in New Orleans. I also think he is a hypocrite as he criticized both Jennifer and Matt on several occasions and now he says these are the two best contestants we’ve ever had on Design Star? I really think the producers of the show won’t loose Vern because he has a monetary stake in the program. So producers, don’t allow Vern to take over the commentary next year.

One other comment -- loose the other two women. They offer ZERO to the mix of “judging.” Get new and fresher blood pumped into the judging. If you don’t HGTV will have the same old mix for next season.

I think the only positive thing about Jen winning is that they will have room for a new design star a year from now. As with Kim they will have nothing to work with and the show will be at best average (painting on a wall does not make you a designer). With Matt I feel they could have gone with a great show "Design Solutions" as Matt was able to solve problems and think outside of the box. Hope HGTV wakes up and brings Matt onboard.

YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS SHOW OFF THE AIR. YOU SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AT SEASON 1 AND SEASON 2. THIS SERIES WAS HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE! IF YOU LOOK THE WORD HORRIBLE UP IN THE DICTIONARY, YOU WOULD FIND THE DESIGNS OF ALL OF THE ROOMS NEXT TO IT! YUK!

Posted by Tracey – August 6, 2008 6:39 PM

I don't believe the best person won, Jen got off to a slow start and only once did Matt have a bad design. Jen is very hard to watch unlike Matt's easy going personality. I will not be watching Jen's show no matter what it's title. I hope in the future you reconsider Matt for a show, some of his ideas were just awesome.

Congratulations Jen ! I personally loved all your design, but equally liked Matt's. I would also like to see Matt on HGTV ! I kept telling my friends that it was so hard to decide between the two of them. I was kinda hoping it would be a split decision, and that in the end they would both host a show together. Jen...You're great, and Matt....You're great ! Best of luck and wishes for you both !

THIS REALLY IS NOT COOL. MATT WAS SO MUCH BETTER. AT LEAST HE SHOW EMOTION, NOT JUST TEARS.
HOWEVER, NO ONE CAN BEAT DAVID. HE IS JUST PERFECTION ALL THE TIME. HE HAS IT ALL.

Posted by FRAN SING – August 6, 2008 2:56 PM

Congratulations Jen you are so deserving, I sound like Vern Yip here, but you are so deserving of the win. You are going to be the new fresh face that lights up HGTV and I'm expecting beautifully decorated and beautifully creative ideas all fresh and new that will come from your passion for designing. Don't listen to the negative only the positive and you'll go far. You're a beautiful, intelligent and talented woman but most of all you have a heart and it shows and it will show in your designing. So I'm looking forward to seeing lots of love and beauty in your showcases. You go Jen and if there's anyway of swinging it have Mattie work for you. You make a great team. All the best to a much deserving lady. And that's another thing you've got class too and you're just a whole package that works. So get to work on HGTV.

Posted by Paintcans – August 6, 2008 1:18 PM

I'm glad that Jen won! But it sounds like she's going to be working out of L.A.? BOO!
We were hoping for a design show in the Kansas City Area!
Pay attention HGTV, please keep her in KC, or at least schedule her to work in KC sometime.

...Yawn...oh..great. Now we get to watch a show hosted by someone who was mean and nasty to another contestant (yes Jen was mean and nasty to Tracee).
What a lovely person. (not!)
This really bothers me. I just don't think anyone who is abusive to another person, deserves to be a design star! I just don't have the stomach for that kind of abusive nonsense on a design show!!!
...come on!!!!
As many others have commented, if I want that kind of drama I'll watch one of those other reality shows.
Yeah great, this is the kind of show I want one of my kids, who is into design to watch, and I can tell them.....
"yes honey, this lady got to be the star of a design show, yet she treated one of the other contestants horribly! But Hgtv says that ok!!" Now, what a great lesson for a child. Well maybe Hgtv, is just not a family show anymore and we just should not watch!!
I really don't get it. This just seems wrong.
Shame on Hgtv.

BOOOO!No! No!No!Not Jenifer,Matt all the way! GO Matt!Look at Jen,she did't even react. She just stood there. She didn't look like she wanted this job. Her not reacting looked like she knew that she had already won. Not cool! This is real.Really real.Good luck with that HGT.V.

All that Jen's going to be doing is paniting. So what,if she is a great painter. These shows are to help people who want to try something new at home. Not everyone is skilled in drawing all over the walls.I don't feel like I'm going to want any of her design style for my home. The work in the BIG EASY wasn't work of a great designer. No way! Good work comes from designers and a crew with talent. It was a good thing that she was able to help that family. It was better than nothing. That family had nothing. Other families still need alot more help in the BIG Easy.GOD BLESS all the people that can help in New Orleans.HGTV should go back and help out some more.

The voter got it all wrong who ever voted for Jenifer. You all suck! Her show will only last a year maybe a year and a half. That stupid painting is not going to keep me watching her show. The judges got it all wrong too.Vern your a good guy but not a good judge this year. Sorry.Vern does a great things for families that really need somthing new for their space. But Vern, change it up(Your style)just alittle bit. Your rooms are kinda boring and kinda look the same. The way you place candles in a room can cause a fire.PLEASE think about that next time you place a candle in room next to the wall or somewhere like that o.k.

Jenifer good luck to you anyways,I really mean that.Honestly,I think that Matt would have had a better show. I don't care for your style.I wouldn't want you paniting your.... whatever all over my walls. HGTV Get it right next year PLEASE! Fans in Tucson Arizona would love to see a better show!

Matt was definitely better.I just think hgtv wanted a woman.Matt showed he can build lots of things.Get in touch with Mike Holmes. Both Of you are great at construction.

What a dissapointment this year- way too much drama, crying and mean people on the show. Matt has superior talent and skills. Design star has turned into a really bad reality show. Please get new judges and format, without all the negativity between the contestants. It just isn't fun and interesting to watch any more.

Posted by Laura – August 5, 2008 11:04 PM

In response to Sherri's comment: How in the world was it "pushed on us" that Matt was gay? I never saw his sexual orientation addressed on the show.

Posted by Mildred – August 5, 2008 10:49 PM

I voted for Jen and was glad to see that she won, although Matt is talented as well. Jen will need some polishing, coaching, and preparation to pull off a good show, but I'm betting she will rise to the occasion and come up with interesting, creative, real-world design ideas. One of the things I like most about her is that she seems unspoiled and approachable. I like the idea of having her do some segments from her home base in the midwest. It would be interesting to watch a designer work with the supportive talent and shopping/design resources in rural or small town communities away from Madison Avenue or Hollywood. And I do hope next year's "Design Star" will be a better show, focused on the INDIVIDUAL, unique talent each candidate brings, and focused on creative DESIGN -- not carpentry or other trade skills, not interpersonal drama, not forced "team" competition, not reality show schtick. DESIGN.

Posted by Mildred – August 5, 2008 10:45 PM

Design Star I think this years show was the pits none of them was really good, but I love HGTV channel and will continue to watch most of the shows, I love lisa and the whole design 2 sell team no matter who is on it. It's the bomp show. wish I can get them in my house won't sell but love u all design.

Matt - so sorry I did not vote! You had better thought out designs and are much more charismatic! Hopefully TLC will give you a show!

Posted by Amy – August 5, 2008 9:58 PM

I had the feeling as soon I saw Jennifer walk out on stage with her new hair style that she was the winner. I don't think she even acted surprised.

Matt was by far the better designer and host.
I probably will check out Jennifer's new show and she may end up doing well. I don't watch Kim's show (still think Todd should have won) but love, LOVE David Bromstad. I watch Color Splash every time it is on.

Hopefully there will be some revamping for the 4th season.

I wanted Matt to win but am happy for Jen. Missed Mikey V. Had a hard time watching Tracee and Michael, they both just bug me. Vern is annoying. Please get new judges. It really isn't the more they are hated the more people will watch. I won't watch Vern next season judge. I love Clive. How fun they both got a cruise and a $5000 or whatever it was prize package between Lumber Liquidators and Sears. Should help Matt's design business. If Matt is still in the Springs area (an hour + away from me) I will hire him. So I'm grateful for the exposure of Matt.

Posted by Deb in Denver – August 5, 2008 7:55 PM

My family and I have enjoyed watching DesignStar each season, but we did feel like this season was less-exciting than the others. Still, each of the contestants has talent or they wouldn't be on the show. Remember we only see what they choose for us to see, i.e., the backstabbing/double talk between Tracee and Michael. And they could have spared us (and Michael) from the "mommy" thing.

The first season we actually saw the contestants have some time to come up with their design. I don't know if they are given that kind of time or not anymore, but any type of designer needs time to come up with their concept. It's very difficult to fly by the seat of your pants all they time, regardless of how creative you are.

I hope that in future seasons - and I do hope there will be future seasons - that the producers will put the design back in DesignStar. Give the contestants time to design, and don't worry so much about who gets along with whom.

Congratulations to all the contestants - you are all winners just by virtue of getting to the show. And Jen, best of luck! We'll look forward to seeing you in January!

I'm not convinced that JB nor the DS staff read these comments, but if they do, maybe changes will be made for the DS-4 season. The DS format does not allow the viewers to truly see the talent of the individual contestants. So, viewers are voting based on personal taste rather than talent of a contestant. Your projected labeling of Matt as a master carpenter and Jen as a master artist, was very misleading. It is your responsibility to remain neutral. Matt could not create his furniture designs, if he was not also an amazing artist. It appears that the drama is more important than the talent of the contestants. Allowing the viewers to choose the next DS doesn't necessarily work. Some of the comments on the boards were borderline ridiculous filled with so much personal agenda energy that had nothing to do with the talent of the contestant. It really was a disservice to all of the contestants.

Posted by robbin – August 5, 2008 6:41 PM

1 out of 3: That's Design Star's success rate!!! Two thumbs up for David Bromstad. Kim and Jenn will be has beens before long!!!! Matt was so much more talented and articulate than Jenn. If HGTV's voting were more user friendly, there might have been a different outcome. Good luck to you, Matt!!!

Being from Kansas we were Pro Jen all the way....if you're looking for a house, a small one to get off the ground with, we offer ours....I have found my father's family whom I had lost 40+ years ago after his death, and now in May of 09, we are having a reunion at my place in Winfield, Ks. any suggestions, how to make a small space bigger?

Posted by Jennifer – August 5, 2008 5:56 PM

I see that someone else has complained about Kim but admits she has seen Kim's show only once. I did not watch last season's Design Star and so was not at first impressed with Kim when I first saw the commercials for her upcoming show. However, once I started watching it, I was amazed at her "out-of-the-box" creativity. She is such a talent, has a friendly, attractive "open" face, charming personality and directly addresses the needs of her audience to understand how and why she is doing a particular thing. I enjoy her more and more as I continue to look forward to each of her shows. She is very much a "designer" as opposed to being just a decorator, as people would find out if they actually watched her show rather than complaining about something of which they have seen too little to possibly judge it. Kim Myles is fantastic, and she focuses her attention on her clients and on her audience, not on herself, and also shows appreciation for her carpenter.

Matt was robbed, his show would have been interesting, and great to watch, I think he would come up with solutions to design problems, If I want flowers on my walls I'll buy wallpaper, Not have them painted on like Jen did. Give us ideas that really work for real people. Sorry Matt, but I know you will do just fine, your the one with the talent.

I have to agree with some of the other's Kims show needs to be canceled or revamped. It's to predictable. She needs to use colors and designs that people can live with.

Voting for this year's DS was tough. Matt and Jen are both very talented and genuinely nice. After much thought, I voted for Matt because he is very creative and great at problem solving. I love that about him! I would love for HGTV to have a show with Matt hosting. I think it would probably be one of my favorites. Although, if I wanted help designing my living room I would ask
for Jen's help. That is just my personal taste
(traditional vs. contemporary). Jen will do great and I will watch her show as well. As a side note, I wish people would be kinder when blogging. All of the contestants (from all of the seasons) are very talented. It is unbecoming being so petty and critical.

Posted by Diana – August 5, 2008 3:26 PM

Both of the finalists were good, but Matt was clearly the most talented if judged by the entire season. Not only that but he helped Jenn in the final by letting her have carpentry help first. He's just a more empathetic and genuine person. I'd have liked to see a show of his.

Also, having the public vote on the finalists is just plain stupid. It becomes a popularity contest instead of a judgment of talent.

I refuse to watch Myles of Style and will do the same with Jenn's new show. Neither designer was superior to their final opponent.

Posted by Mitch – August 5, 2008 3:18 PM

Wasn't gonna comment, but after reading some of your entries, here goes.

Two weeks ago I decided that this DS-3 was another flop but decided to calmly see what would be the conclusion. Not too surprised. Jen was the only one that could probably be the winner. After they did their familie's rooms I knew that Matt would not be the winner, no matter what he did in New Orleans.

DS-1 was fabulous. DS-2 was awful and DS-3 was mediocre.

Oh, - to answer your questions about Mickey V. He got in trouble with the law (saw it on the Message Board) Yes, he is a police officer no longer and on probation or something. Too bad. I guess he wasn't the genuine article we were hoping for.

HGTV - - - please stop focusing so much on Vern Yip!!!!! He is annoying, over-rated and condescending. Remove him as a judge! Get new individuals as judges for DS-4 or you'll have another weird series on your hands for next year!

I watched Food Network Star more this year than DS and I found I like their format much more and since you are owned by the same major company perhaps you should learn from FNS for next year. Like foreinstance: They have guest judges and the judges participate in some of the episodes to watch the TV work and the personality of the cooks. I really liked their judges and they don't call them judges. They are the "advisory panel" or something. FNS was much more interesting and I design for a living and I am not a cook yet I was watching the food star competition more this year and their winner, Aaron McCargo Jr. has an AWESOME SHOW!

Stop with the drama!!! Give us designs, decorating ideas, and artistic accomplishments. Focus on the person as a designer not a failure and GET RID OF VERN YIP!!!!! PLEASE!

Posted by Jackson – August 5, 2008 2:17 PM

What was the vote count?......I'm guessing close. I thought BOTH, Jen and Matt, were winners! I voted for each one. I believed that Jen would win this season...but I also believe that Matt is going to be EXTREMELY successful!

It won't be a surprise to see Matt get a show somewhere soon. If not....the networks need to get creative!

Best wishes to the two of you.

Posted by t212 – August 5, 2008 2:17 PM

I've said it last year and I'll say it again - Please DO NOT give these so called designers their own show if they win the contest. It makes me believe that a ham sandwich could host an HG show. Set them up with starter money; give them oodles of prizes but don't glut your channel with amatuers that couldn't decorate their way out of a paper bag. Case in point is last year's winner - Kim. What are her credentials? A major design mistake such as beige carpeting in a mud-soaked area is unforgivable and you still give her a show of her own? Please tell me that you will not make this mistake again. But here comes Jen slapping white paint on beautiful wood which will chip off in a heart-beat because it was not professionally done. Yuck. In my opinion the only true dasign show you have is Divine Design. All the rest are sorry seconds.I could go on about the next Design Star show but it's already been said in practically every posting here. Listen to your audience for a change and fire the producers that brought us the current fiasco.

Posted by Margaret – August 5, 2008 2:15 PM

I really hope HGTV finds some way to use Matt on TV. He combines architectural skill and design expertise in much the same way Vern does but with a different eye. Much preferred his style to Jen's, although I will support her show just on general principles.

Posted by Bobbi – August 5, 2008 2:02 PM

People, for goodness sake stop complaining you can't change what happened JEN WON!!! Im sorry for those of you who like Matt, but trashing Jen won't change anything. Just be thankful Tracee didn't win.Jen is a skilled designer so was matt but only one of them won and yes it would be nice to see some of the other designers show up on a show, but being whiney butts (no offense well maybe a little)won't help there is no law you have to watch Jen's show last time i checked at least so stop complaining you make it sound like the end of the world its a tv show.

Posted by littlehouselover – August 5, 2008 1:58 PM

Love this show, BUT -- TO YOU WHO PUT IT TOGETHER: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give these people a bit more time to plan their designs. I don't feel like we really had a chance to see what some of these people can truly do. More individual challenges would definitely help. Is Jennifer the best designer? Not sure . . .

I'd like to see Matt be her partner on her new show. THAT would be interesting

Posted by Susan – August 5, 2008 1:14 PM

Everyone- Calm down!! Yes, both Jen and Matt were great, but let's give Jen an opportunity to show what's she's got. We all might be very pleasantly surprised! To condemn a show before it's even debuted is ignorant! At least Jen is a real person ~ unlike some of the others (fake hair, fake personality, fake smile, etc., just cute and trying to act young.) Good luck Jen, I will be tuning in.

BORING season! No one has come CLOSE to being as good as David Bromstad is! He's such a bright and fun guy - comes across that way anyway - so talented! He's about the only reason I watch HGTV these days!!

Posted by Lisa – August 5, 2008 10:41 AM

Yes, let Jen do a show from the midwest. We are usually not in the "serviced areas of design programs." And, for many of us in more remote areas, design can be much more challenging as we have less "see & purchase options".

Posted by JoAnn – August 5, 2008 9:23 AM

How proud I am of Jen. You can't please everyone all the time, but she showed she could get the job done. I agree with the person who posted that they would like to see Jen do her show from the heart of the country. Olathe is a suburb of Kansas City. We would love to have the opportunity to have our midwestern designer do midwestern homes! Congrats Jen!

Congrats go to both Jen AND Matt!

They both rock, and I wish a tie would have given them a show together. I think Design Star needs to be voted by a panel of true Interior Designers, and not the American public at the end. If ratings require involvement with the audience, then why not flip and have the audience vote at the beginning?

I hope the show gets an overhaul before next season. I would like to see fewer joint challenges and less unrealistic time frames for projects...Sure, a designer needs to be a team player, but much more importantly needs to be the one to make the decisions and call all the shots!

Posted by DStar Fan – August 5, 2008 1:54 AM

Matt...being gay...was pushed on us a little too much. Your sexual orientation should have nothing to do with design. He should have gone after the tacky black chairs. Jenn...you are awesome...PAINT away!

Posted by Sherri – August 5, 2008 1:43 AM

I thought the show was a bit...boring. I love Jenn and I am so glad that she won. Vern...being a judge...made a comment about her painting techniques about her being a one something...RUDE! If Vern Yip could begin to paint like Jenn...he would have a much better and less boring show. All he does is put boxes on the wall and candles in them. Dangerous fire hazard and you can get bored easily after watching two shows...he needs to be cancelled and put Sparkle in his place...give us real design. Jenn's painting talent is beyond being an artist. She could design fabrics, wallpapers, stencils..she can transform a room just by painting the walls or even one wall with a unique pattern. SO creative. This show is all about how strong you are. Women are at a disadvantage. It should not be about how much you can freakin' lift. That is not design. Jenn should not have had to lift all that furniture with no help...fortunately in the final show, she had some help. Just biased. No one will ever beat DAVID...he is magnificent. He is KING. Jenn is the next best thing. She is amazing and did not fake a smile like Matt. Matt obviously has had problems at home...and his tacky four black leather chairs was enough for him to have hit the road. You can buy furniture all day long..you can buy expensive chandeliers for people that would have appreciated a game table and games and a stocked refrigerator...these people had NOTHING...being extravagant in depressed New Orleans was a slap in their faces. Jenn's room was harder...and because of dumb Vern...she laid back on using her artistic painting techniques on the finale. I wish she had blown it out...I love her style and can't wait for her show. She is not a fake. I am so glad that the REAL person and REAL talent won...Design does not mean you can use a saw and wear a tool box around your waste. It means you can create something special from nothing...and for little money. She does it. David does it. Now...that, my friends, is STYLE...something that anyone can do. Kim...well, I voted for her because she was the best of the two in the finale...but, she needs help. I think her show will be cancelled. Just not there. She seemed to loose whatever it was that I thought she had.

I loved both Jen and Matt. I understand why many thought it should be a shared win. I hope Jen can think of ways to have Matt, and maybe a few other of her competitors on her show as guests! That would be REALLY fun for the audience!

Posted by Sally – August 5, 2008 12:28 AM

I actually ended up voting for both Matt and Jen so , unfortunately, they cancelled each other out but I genuinely liked both of them equally and for different reasons. It was like choosing between apples and oranges. I hated seeing Matt lose and I loved seeing Jennifer win. I think she's darling and will have a great, fun, creative show but I do wish HGTV could find a way to incorporate Matt into the 'family'. I think he's great also - happy, organized, polished style - and I love the bandana look.
(On a side note...I also hope HGTV can find a way to come up with something new and different. There's so many 'Designed to Sell', 'buy a house' type shows on right now - they're getting boring so I barely watch those kind anymore.) Best of luck to both Jen and Matt! Great job!

Jennifer had the sparkle, but both finalists were wonderful. It's too bad only one could be the winner. It's interesting to note that when both Matt and Jen were presented on stage, Matt looked looked sophistated, but dressed like he was going to a funeral. Contrast - Jennifer was dressed vibrantly with a new hair cut, wow clothing, and the confidence to pull it off.... I had a feeling then and there that the she was going to be the winner.... I wish the best to both of them and hope that HGTV can find a place for Matt in future episodes. Congratulations to both of them!

Great season. Congrats Jennifer.
But...like others, where was Mikey on the final night?? Missed him and his great smile

This season of design star was the absolute worst it could possibly be. I hate Tracee and also this show. I hope that HGTV read the blogs as 99% agreed that this years show sucked. If HGTV continues with this show, you desparately need to re-tool the format. How could anyone, including the stupid judges, know what anyone could do since it was mostly group projects and backstabbing, trash reality tv. And was Jennifer in a coma or did she already know she had won - she just stood there looking stupid. I really didn't care who one. HGTV - WAKE UP.

Where was Mikey V.,... Why HGTV did not included him on the finale???

I think Jenn and Matt were fantastic. I voted for Matt but I believe that Jenn is going to be one of the best designers of HGTV . Good Luck my dear Matt...I know you will make it....You are rock man!!!!!!

Posted by Ena from Tampa,Fl – August 4, 2008 11:36 PM

Need to correct my post - I meant Jen and Matt.

Posted by Judy – August 4, 2008 11:34 PM

I agree with a couple of others - what was the final tally? I liked both Jen and Mike, and knew I was going to be a little sad whatever happened. I hope Matt goes on to great success in his private career. What's up with unkind comments about Mikey V. and Matt?

Posted by Judy Rush – August 4, 2008 11:32 PM

how disappointing to see that once again HGTV has gone with the politically correct choice as opposed to the talent choice. From the very first episode this has been about what mid west housewives were willing to vote for. And vote they did--for extreme home craft approach decorating as opposed to design. Maybe Jen can host a decoupage show? Hee haw!

Posted by michael – August 4, 2008 11:30 PM

Jennifer, I was for you from the moment I read your profile before the show even began! I loved the fact that you have international experiences, and I hope that the producers somehow incorporate that in your new show. And wouldn't it be nice if your bloke were involved in the new show? ;)

Posted by Luana – August 4, 2008 11:17 PM

Voted for Matt. Jen is predictable boring decorator. Her ideas don't have any edge.

Posted by lana – August 4, 2008 10:43 PM

Either one of these finalists would have been a good call...I saw things out of both of them that I liked (Jen's Italian room was the best in the "white room" challenge and loved the room she did for her sister, and Matt blew it away in their first challenge of the season with the bed and I liked the room he did with Michael), also saw some things I didn't like (Matt's "white room fiasco" and his gaming/craft room... Jen's dining room makeover with Stephanie and the challenge with Tracee).
So it was hit and miss with both of them - but overall they were the two who showed me the most in design skills, hosting skills and ingenuity and integrity. They are both good designers with different styles, and I look forward to seeing what Jen's show has to offer.

Posted by Pret – August 4, 2008 10:35 PM

Like so many others, loved Matt and Jen both. Would love to see them do a show together. Would love to see a show where they design for people with disabilities. Design around real people with real needs. They are so warm they could do it well.
VERY disappointed not to see Mikey V, IF the reason is his porn background, then shame on you HGTV. He was a great addition to the show and very talented.

Posted by gayle – August 4, 2008 10:14 PM

This was the first time I voted for Design Star. I LOVE HGTV but was hoping Matt would win and bring some new ideas to the station. I find him to be a creative designer but he has the added touch of being a craftsman too...the perfect package for a new show. So, congrats to Jenn. She had a few good designs but nothing new to add to the station. Too bad. I really would have been looking forward to Matt's show....

Posted by Cal – August 4, 2008 10:01 PM

Did anyone have problems voting? The first 2 days the black box was not under either Jen, or Mat, and I couldn't vote. Hmmmmm wonder if that's why Jen won. Mat, you should have won, you are a great designer.

Posted by Diane – August 4, 2008 9:42 PM

Both design star finalists were great, but Matt
was by far better because he handled pressure
much better, his design ideas were better, and
he communicated better with the audience.

Posted by at – August 4, 2008 9:37 PM

So disappointed that Matt didn't win. He seemed the most professional, talented, good natured and mature of the group and the least hysterical. It seems a mistake to have the winner chosen based on popularity. Could HGTV not assemble an academy of designers who would cast the deciding vote? It feels to me like you are not serious about design. Get some new judges. We need fresh eyes!

I hope that next year the administrators will do a better job of monitoring the message boards. What should have been a fun way to discuss the show and share opinions, turned into a blood-fest everytime anyone had an opinion that didn't jibe with the self-annointed "Keepers of the Boards." Add to that a bunch of would-be juvenile delinquents who took great pleasure in making rude comments to older posters. I only had to be addressed as "schitzo" (sic) one time to know this was not the place for me. I thought the American Idol boards were awful until I checked out Design Star. The really sad part is that the objects of their obsession, the designers, would no doubt be appalled at the actions of their so-called fans. The posters act like absolute harridans as they describe their favorites as being "sweet" and "thoughtful". Go figure. In fact, go anywhere except to the Design Star message board. Good riddance on Wednesday!

Let's get Matt and Jennifer to work together, then we will have one complete show. One can't survive without the other.

Posted by Grace – August 4, 2008 8:48 PM

YEAH JEN .My family is soooo glad she won. She will be so much fun to watch. Jen is such a class act and we know she will be GREAT!!!!WE ARE SOOOO HAPPY FOR JEN AND HER HUSBAND !!!!

Posted by katie – August 4, 2008 8:06 PM

I agree that both Matt and Jen are classy people. I'm sure Jen will receive some speech coaching. She is probably nervous and not breathing deeply enough, thus the "squeakiness" in her voice. She will undoubtedly also receiving counsel regarding her speech pattern and I bet she'll do a good hosting job when she starts her show. Jen will be provided a carpenter, just as Kim and David are, so the fact that she is not also a carpenter is not a factor.

David and Kim both bring tremendous talent to their respective shows. I think those who criticize either of them have not seen enough of their work. David is quite an artist -- I especially liked the episode where he turned a basement into an "underwater" family play room.

Kim brings startling creativity to the table with solutions I never could have imagined. She is versatile enough to satisfy individual client's desires but without ever being boring -- everything she does ends up looking spectacular and "high-end." She employs ideas that are so unusual and creative and yet often simple enough to inspire some of us to try them as well. Her carpenter whose name I cannot recall right now is also a charming addition to her show. Not only does he have a charming personality, he has some good ideas of his own, and Kim is smart enough to listen to his input when he has a suggestion. I really enjoy her show. Having been professionally trained as an actress, she also has a good speaking voice and is comfortable in front of the camera.

Can hardly wait for next Design Star season.

Posted by Shannon – August 4, 2008 7:56 PM

I love Kim Myles' show. She is super-creative and her design is very do-able for the average person.

Posted by oklahoma yankee – August 4, 2008 7:43 PM

Jen- Wow!! We are so proud of you.. I remember when you were my son's art teacher at Cottonwood Point. We miss you but are sooo happy for you. Good Luck from Kanas..

Posted by Blue Valley Parent – August 4, 2008 7:34 PM

Both design star finalists were great, but I feel
Matt had the best design ideals, he was better
under pressure, and he communicated better.

Posted by at – August 4, 2008 7:33 PM

I hope for Design Star 4 that they will not choose another freak like Ramona or Lisa. These 2 "designer's" were clearly chosen because they were bizarre. And this season's selection of Michael was pitiful. Talk about obsessed with yourself. And I think he stunk as far as a designer.

I thought the show was about real talent not people who will cause conflict or distractions.

As for Jennifer, congratulations!!!!! I'm glad you won. I also hope to see Matt as we see "Sparkle Josh".

As for next season's judges, please get rid of Vern Yip. Martha McCully I can watch all day. I also like Cynthia Rawley. Make David Bromstad or Constance Ramos a judge.

Posted by Sarge 311 – August 4, 2008 7:30 PM

Watching Jennifer is tantamount to watching Roseanne Barr when she first started in standup. They share the same nasel voice, overuse of the word "like" and the self contratulatory habit of laughing the hardest at their own jokes. What is Jennifer's new show going to be called, "Giggle-britches?" That said, and besides the fact that I don't find her the least bit photogenic, (that girl could eat apples through a picket fence with those teeth), what she fails at most is innovative design. However, she is a winner when it comes to being even more annoying than Kim Myles. She's got that "in the bag." So congratulations, Jennifer. Looks like we will have one more show on HGTV to lower the bar. And it's really too bad, because there is a lot of talent and personality in the design world today. HGTV just hasn't yet mastered the ability of tapping into it. In MY most humble opinion, that is!

Posted by Axelle – August 4, 2008 7:27 PM

Congratulations to Jennifer! I loved both her and Matt and I hope that Matt gets more than just phone calls from new clients, I hope HGTV can find a place for him.

Posted by Rinda Rue – August 4, 2008 7:17 PM

I like Matt much more than Jen. Is there any way to see them working together? I also agree with those who want to hear "Kim, your show has been canceled". For me, she is a decorator, not a designer.

Posted by SANDRA – August 4, 2008 7:09 PM

What was missing from this show? Some excitement? Some entertainment? Some enthusiasm? Some SPARKLE??? Wasn't this show in Nashville? Isn't Sparkle from Nashville? Why did I keep hoping he'd be a surprise guest or something all season?

Nobody seemed particularly excited - very low key and blah. If these were the highlights I would hate to see the lowlights that got edited out.

Posted by sandra – August 4, 2008 7:05 PM

What a disappointment. I should have guessed Jennifer had already known she won, when she came out with an updated hairdo. Where was Mikey V and NO explanation... he was good enough for the show but not the finale? Matt should have won, hands down. What was the vote count. HGTV... do answer your viewers questions.

Posted by Someone in PA – August 4, 2008 6:48 PM

This season of Design Star was a let down. The group as a whole were not as talented as the previous seasons. Please pick more talented contestants for Season 4.

Posted by Tiffany sims – August 4, 2008 6:34 PM

Congrats to Jen. Matt I wanted you to win as you are really good and I also live in Colorado Springs. I hope to run into some day. I hope you move back to the Springs to do work here.
I also think you and Jen should be working together. I hope HGTV hires you to be the carpenter on Jen's show, that would be so cool.
Or just hire you as a fantastic carpenter for any show then we can see you too.
I also loved Jen and voted for both of you but voted more for Matt.
As for all you who think Kim should go, I think you need to look at her style which is different from most and that is a good thing. She is showing you how you can design your spaces with everyday things. I am a crafter and I think the things she comes up with are truely genious.
I love Color Splash as David is also a designer that thinks out of the box like Kim does and like Matt does.

HGTV I hope you read these boards and see how many of us wanted Matt and Jen to work together. I think you would have an awesome show.
It wouldn't be like Matt and Sheri either. Jen and Matt work so well together. Please hire Matt for being either Jen's carpenter or her co-host or as a carpenter/designer somewere. HGTV will be missing out on a get designer with a great mind.
Love you Matt.

Sorry but you have just lost a viewer, DS3 was the worst and the finale show was poorly done, so much time wasted on drama and showing what people said. Why not show the designs that had been created through the weeks. Kym Myles of Syle, tried 3 times to watch it, lousy show, never could figure out why she won DS2. Matt was the better designer and I felt Jenn did a good job but could never watch her show, the voice just crates on me, her design is the same each time. The finale show was poorly done and had no real content. As to judges, please get some new ones, Rowley is horrible, Vern, sorry the judges need to be replaced. If you have a DS4 I will not be watching.

Congrats to Jen!!! I'm so glad that you won!! I'm from Overland Park, KS and would love to see you do some of your shows in the Kansas City area. I need a new master bathroom!! :) Anyway, I can't wait to see your new show!! Best of luck to you!

Posted by Jacque – August 4, 2008 6:19 PM

Congratulations Jennifer! Your adorable smile and winning personality will make you a wonderful host ! Not to mention your beautiful, talented designs. I for one , wish the bloggers would remember that there could only be 1 winner and not rain upon your parade. You deserve it and America voted! The contest was not for a Design 'Team' it was for a Design 'Star' and my heartfelt best wishes go out to you and your family! Your husband looked so happy for you and you are a charming couple with a bright future and many changes ahead of you. Have lots of fun and enjoy your success!

There are a few shows that I would like to see canceled...Trading Spaces and Myles of Style are two of them. Replace these with a show for Matt as well as Jen's new show...THEN you might have something worth America tuning in for.

Posted by Millie – August 4, 2008 5:59 PM

Why can't Jenn have a design show here in the midwest? Overland Park is just a hop, skip and jump from here and there are a lot of us in the area who would love to benefit from a DS makeover.Congrats Jenn ~ love your work!

Posted by Jo – August 4, 2008 5:18 PM

Jen and Matt were terrific. What a tough decision, I thought each of them were equally marvelous and both should be Design Stars. It was difficult to wait for each weeks episode due to anticipation. This was a wonderful show with 2 incredible people. In my opinion Matt and Jen are winners!

Posted by Arlene – August 4, 2008 5:04 PM

i thought the show was lackluster most of the season and i've always been a huge fan. I was very disappointed to not see Mikey V in not only the final 2 but not even allowed to be a part of the show's finale. I don't profess to know if the reason was his porn past but even so, he was a great addition to the show and was probably the most talented of all. it's a shame that HGTV did not have the guts to weather any backlash. If you dig deep enough, everyone has skeletons in their closet. I certainly wish Jennifer the best of luck. She was a good contestant but I feel sad for Mikey V and hope the best for him. I'm sure he will go on to do great things in his career and wish i could have seen him in the finale.

Congratulations Jenn...very happy for you and your family. This is a life changing event for all of you-- I know it was a tough choice but it was made. Be true to your passion! Matt, I know you'll receive alot of offers because of your talent, tenacity and passion you possess for design.

Posted by Francisca – August 4, 2008 5:00 PM

Matt will get his OWN show they need to get him on lots of people loved his work and his up beat attitude HGTV would be nuts to let him NOT get on ....... Matt i want to hire you to do my entire house please :-)If your ever in New York and feel inspired i have my grandchildrens room, family room, bathroom, and my bedroom as well as my office to do , dont know if you do out door living spaces but i have a challange for you .

Posted by AN – August 4, 2008 4:32 PM

I was a little disappointed with this season. I think you chose a Decorator Star. I don't think Jen's talent is at the level of past winners--David, or even Kim. In my oppinion, the only one with the personality for their own show was Trish, but again----a decorator!

Posted by iluvHGTV – August 4, 2008 4:26 PM

Geez....last night's finale and annoucement of the new design star was about the most boring of an ending I could have witnessed. Was Jen in shock or maybe a coma?
Anyway, I would have liked to seen Matt win since he had a lot of high positive energy during the whole process and he would have brought the house down, and the audience would have gone nuts!
As it was in reality...boring!

I am so happy for Jenn. I think she and Matt were heads and shoulders above the others. America would have won either way. I never thought David should have won in year one and cannot stand his attitude or show. If someone feels the voting was rigged this time, one only need to think about who was voting for him! It was fine with me that Kim won last year, but neither of the previous classes came close to the talent that the contestents displayed this year. I can't wait to watch Jenn! I love your network. Keep up the great programming. I totally trust that the quality will be great.

Posted by bluehen – August 4, 2008 3:22 PM

I'm very disappointed that Matt didn't win! I have to agree with everyone else: CANCEL Myles of Style (or whatever it is - I only watched her once!) and definitely replace that show with Matt's show! Perhaps you should admit it: America wanted BOTH of them...I have to wonder how close the votes were!!!

Posted by Dianne – August 4, 2008 2:59 PM

LIKE, jen will be a horrible host. LIKE, she is sweet, but talks like a 12 year old. Matt was the better designer and I hope he opens a design co so I can hire him to do my house when I get rich!

Posted by joe – August 4, 2008 2:52 PM

Congrats to Jen!! I love her work. However, I also loved Matt's work. Why
