Our kitchen remodel is a "tear everything out and start fresh" job, so the first week of hands-on-work is simply ripping everything out. That's not just the cabinets, stove and the obvious stuff. We're taking it down to the studs. The sheetrock comes down, the floor comes up, everything.
This was very, very satisfying to witness. I went to work on a Tuesday morning and when I returned in the evening the place was nearly gutted. Is it a guy thing to think demolition is fun? With four strong guys going at it, the complete demolition took nearly four days. We even pulled the ceiling down; this made the plumbing and electrical much more accessible. In particular, this will make it easy to put in can lighting, which we plan to install throughout the whole area. The plumber and electrician will thank us for taking down the ceiling. In fact we were happy to, because it had a pretty ugly finish.
This is the space formerly known as the Sexton kitchen. Look back at the first entry to see the "before" shot.

This is looking from the dining room into the kitchen. The spot with the black plastic on the floor is where the bathroom used to be.
Soon these walls will be completely gone.

I wish you the best on your remodel project. Having been in the business for over 28 years I know first hand the pearls that face most home owners as they go through this process. Hopefully you have picked a great contractor..

I truly feel your pain. My husband and I finally decided to remodel our (circa 1954) kitchen this year and we're getting close to done. We also have a blog: http://justkitchen.blogspot.com. On the right there's a link to the 'archives' so you can go back and see the "before" pics.
I'll check back in on your progress later. Best of luck.

Good luck with your remodel! I'm into week #7 of mine! Everything is at a standstill awaiting the countertops. I did very similar to what you are doing, took 1/2 of wall out between kitchen & living room and cabinets and half wall between kitchen & dining room (made it one big room...27 cabinets! It's very exciting!! I waited 30 years to do it. Good luck and enjoy!!
