It took the flooring crew about a day and a half to install the hardwood floor, which is white oak. It then took three days to sand it and put down three coats of polyurethane. We had to move out of the house during this process. We stayed with my parents for four nights. I gotta tell you, it was pretty nice staying with them. Fall has arrived in Tennessee and the low temperatures at night have dropped into the 30s.
We haven't wanted to turn our heat on because it will just blow the dust around. We have been running some small space heaters. But the house has still been quite chilly. So staying with my parents, in a fully heated house felt good. Ahh, sometimes you forget to appreciate the small pleasures in life.
The floors look terrific. And so does the drywall, which went up a couple days before.
Here's the view looking into the kitchen.

This is the view looking from the kitchen into the dining room.

That is beautiful! I'm at a loss as to what to do with my kitchen, but I know I want hardwood floor. My brother just put his in himself and said it was quite a job. We'll have to hire someone, as we're both handicapped. I hope we get to see your finished kitchen. Maybe I cn steal some ideas.

The floors look beautiful! I underwent a major kitchen renovation in my own home in Oct 2005 and also rehabbed another house between May - July 2006 which had oak floors throughout under carpet. We had them refinished and they look so much like your floors now. Oak is beautiful wood flooring and was a good choice for you. Loved reading your blog. Just found it and have caught myself up-to-date.

My kitchen has hardwood floors already. They’re just under 3 layers of linoleum. The whole end of our house that the kitchen is part of has hard wood floors and in that I just started working at a store that sells area rugs I would love to get them all redone and use my employee discount. These pictures are very inspiring. I suppose before I take on a new project I should finish the last one. My wife is starting to get sick of looking at the hole in the living room ceiling from the plumbing work we had done a few months ago…OK…quite a few months ago.
