Installing the new beams

Installing these LVLs super beams is very challenging for a couple of reasons: 1) they weigh over 300 pounds, 2) you have to cut into the existing framing to make room to insert them. A lot of sweat went into putting these new beams into place. Our guys were very pleased with the finished job.

Here's Wes cutting into the old beams to make way for the Super Beam.Wes LVL.jpg

This is where the steel beam (gray) and an LVL beam (reddish) meet.

There used to be a wall here (right). That's an LVL beam
supporting the area between our kitchen and family room.

What is an LVL beam?. I am planning on remodeling a kitchen. We are planning on removing a barring wall (Support wall) we are supposed to reinforce the area ( where the wall will be removed) with a beam. Is it the LVL beam that you mentioned above. Please explain. Thanks. Nomi.
