The island bar top is made from reclaimed wood, put together by Elmwood Reclaimed Timber of Kansas City, Mo. We thought it would create a great contrast to the modern stainless steel countertops on the front of the island. Actually, I should say this was Angelique's idea, and we liked it. The wood, pulled from an old barn or building, is very compact, more solid than new lumber I think. Lots of character.
Before the bar top is installed, the carpenters will give
it a coat of polyurethane and then a coat of epoxy resin.
