Cabinet makers have gotten so much smarter when it comes to drawers. We chose two options from KraftMaid that we really like. One is the big, open, pull out drawers in the pantry. Great for storing cereal, crackers, cans, etc. It is convenient to be able to pull the drawer out, instead of reaching all the way to the back to find things. See the photo below. Second is the large drawers in the island that we use for storing pots and pans (bottom photo). Very handy.
One thing to be careful of. We overloaded the top drawer in the pantry with about 40 pounds of cans. The drawer actually broke loose and crashed down on the next drawer. Our carpenter came back and repaired it. He told us to keep the heavier stuff in the back. Anyone else have issues with this kind of drawer?

These are the drawers on the island.

We have not had that problem with our kitchen or the one in our prvious home. I would keep canned items on the lowest shelf or I would distribute them on more then one upper shelf.
We went with all full extension draws and a small pull out pantry. They also have the self closing mechanism which I love. It doesn't require slamming to shut it and with small kids that's a good thing as it can save them from smashed fingers. They also like the "magic" of the draw closing by itself.

wow those are innovative drawers...I wish there was some way to organize pots and pans in a drawer because I usually just throw them in so they end up jamming the drawer shut.

Did you purchase the self-closing drawers and the ones that pull out all the way? And did you upgrade your Kraftmaid inners to plywood? Thanks.

Yes Susan, we did purchase the self closing drawers for the pantry only. And all the other ones were pull out all the way drawers. A note aside, we thought we had purchased pull out all the way drawers for our bathroom, but they are not. It is so disappointing! I wish we had picked that up on the order...ah well. And I don't believe we did the plywood inners, although the pull out drawers of the pantry are the ones that are heavy duty.
Hope this helps.

Absolutely love these drawers. My daughter is an interior designer and is trying to talk me into these - your kitchen make them look great!

Full extension drawer glides can be installed on the existing drawers, and cabinets. They can be installed after-market. Just purchase the glides from where you bought your vanities.
